Historically, travel bottle warmers have been kind of hot garbage as far as utility and convenience. They often didn't get hot enough, or they got too hot and burned your hands. Either one is obviously not ideal. The travel warmers here are designed to make the best use of your time without hurting you or skimping out on warming the bottle.

The Best Travel Bottle Warmers

  • Best Overall: Baby's Brew
  • Gets the Job Done: Papablic Warmer
  • Best Multipurpose: Mercalon Warmer
  • Best for Parents Who Like Precision: Quark Buubi Warmer
  • For Ultimate Convenience: Baby Bottle System Plus

Whether the travel bottle warmer uses hot water to warm the bottle, or induction heat, the basic idea is the same — bring the bottle to a temperature that makes it more palatable for your baby, therefore making everyone's day better. (Nothing spoils a day out like a hungry baby.)

A few of the best electric bottle warmers here plug right into a USB or USB-C port, so if there's a charging station nearby, you're going to be able to heat up your little's bottle. Conveniently, the water bottle warmers just require hot water. Pro tip: A tall hot coffee works in a pinch.

The option you choose will likely depend on when you’re using it, how often you’re using it, and how much you want to spend. If you’re going to need it a lot, it makes sense to have a warmer that can go from the car to the office, and even the camper or campsite . In this case, a pricier model that’s more durable and has more bells and whistles (such as a timer and temperature selection) is the most viable. Water warmers are great, but they’re one-trick ponies. The Thermos types are wonderful for shorter day trips but can be tricky at the office, on vacation, or on road trips. And now with warmers like the Ember , which self-heats or the Quark bottle warmer, you can keep baby's bottle at-temperature for up to 10 hours at a time or set and forget, which is a real game changer.

Check out the best travel bottle warmers below so you can keep your babe’s milk at their ideal temperature, even when you’re far from the conveniences of home.

Portable Bottle Warmer Pro Set

Portable Bottle Warmer Pro Set

This cordless bottle warmer lets you choose from a list of presets how warm you want your little one’s food to be. The formula dispenser doles out enough for one scoop of formula with each press of the button. Once the warmer is charged, you can easily heat up any standard baby bottle.

We love this bottle warmer for its convenience and reliability. “I’ve tried other portable rechargeable bottle warmers,” one of our testers said. “Not only were they confusing, but they also took forever to warm up a bottle. The Baby’s Brew is easy to use, accurate, and holds its charge perfectly.”

Mini Portable Travel Baby Bottle Warmer

Mini Portable Travel Baby Bottle Warmer

When hunger strikes for your little one, the easy-to-use Papablic Mini Bottle Warmer warms up milk quickly. Fill the spillproof insulated bottle with hot water, and when it's time to eat, pour the water into the container and plop the bottle inside. The highest-rated bottle warmer on our list, this bottle really seals in the heat. And the vacuum lid is easy to open and close, unlike with the Tommee Tippee.

It's affordable, easy to use, and honestly? It's just a great value. It may not be as fancy as others on this list, but it gets the job done and doesn't ding your budget.

Bottle Warmer for Travel

Bottle Warmer for Travel

One of my favorites for the combination of value and usefulness, this bottle warmer gets bonus points for its many options for the temperature you’d like the formula or milk to be. And if you’re thinking long-term, it’s great for adults, too, as it will heat liquid to 212 degrees Fahrenheit. Say you order your coffee or tea extra hot; this Mercalon will keep it there. It's a great gift for busy parents since our coffee is usually cold by the time we get a minute to actually drink it. It has a built-in 9,000-mAh battery, which has enough juice to heat 5-ounce bottles five to 10 times or keep one warm up to 12 hours. It does this for all under $60,

Buubi Bottle Smart Portable Milk Warmer & Sterilizer - White

Buubi Bottle Smart Portable Milk Warmer & Sterilizer - White

When you think of baby bottles and warmers, chic is probably not a descriptor you're used to using. However, the Quark Buubi is just that. I was instantly impressed by the look of it, but then when I used it, I was in love. Not only did this rechargeable bottle warmer heat up the formula in a hurry, it kept it warm for hours, allowing me a long stretch of time to be out with baby testing baby strollers.

It's a pour bottle, so you don't put the whole bottle in it and warm that, instead, think of it like a little saucepan for the formula that you pour into your own bottle. The digital interface allows you to choose the temperature your baby prefers, making it astonishingly easy to control.

Baby Bottle System Plus

Baby Bottle System Plus

I love my Ember coffee mug and warmer more than words can say, so when I heard that they were making a self-warming baby bottle set, I was all over it. It's not just for travel, either. It's great for home, too. The Ember baby bottle system takes away the chore of heating bottles wherever you are.

It's a one-click, rechargeable, base with thermal dome, power adapter, two 6-ounce baby bottles, two level-two nipples, two level-three nipples, and two adapters.

In minutes, it brings baby's bottle to body temperature, no matter where you are, and the dome keeps baby's bottle cool for up to 4 hours until you're ready to warm it up. You can track everything via their app, including how much your baby's eaten, how much they weigh, and more to get a complete picture of baby's habits.

Each charge lasts for two full warmings of their 6-ounce bottles. Worried about the nipple not being to your baby's liking? Don't worry, it comes with a top that holds the popular Dr. Brown's and Philips Avent nipples.

I do wish it came with larger and smaller bottles, and knowing Ember, they're probably working on that, but as it is right now, is still such a genius product.

Travel Bottle & Food Warmer Set

Travel Bottle & Food Warmer Set

Like the Kiinde above, this set from Tommee Tippee requires that you fill the flask with hot water before leaving home, and it'll stay warm all day. The wide-mouthed container accommodates jarred and pouched baby food for feeding older tots.

This bottle keeps water warm much longer than the Kiinde, but we found it to be more fiddly. It’s not always the easiest to get the lid back on so that it won’t leak, and you definitely can’t do it with one hand. "This warmer has truly been a game-changer for me. Out of all the portable warmers I've come across, this one stands unparalleled, especially considering its price point," says one 5-star reviewer.

Multi-Function Waterproof Travel Bag With Bottle Warmer

Multi-Function Waterproof Travel Bag With Bottle Warmer

This backpack is a diaper bag , a purse, and a bottle warmer all in one. You do need your own portable charger to power the bottle-warming sleeve, so factor that into the cost if you don’t already have one. But for the versatility, this is a great value.

You can heat up your baby’s bottle as you stroll through the park or take a walk around town and have it ready to deploy right when you need it. Parents rave that this diaper bag is an excellent value. Not only is the warmer convenient, but the pack is large and its nylon looks fabulous.

Baby Bottle Smart Warming Bowl

Baby Bottle Smart Warming Bowl

The Nanobebe Smart Baby Bottle Warmer heats up your baby’s supper quickly—within minutes—and evenly to prevent hot spots and the loss of nutrients. This no-fuss travel bottle warmer just requires hot water.

This is a great option if you have access to hot water. But it’s not spillproof and requires you to carry hot water in a separate bottle or get it while you’re out, which might not be ideal. That being said, it works really well, and also fairly quickly. I find it's a great "hotel warmer."

Kozii Voyager

Kozii Voyager

This travel bottle warmer set by Kiinde requires you to fill the stainless-steel bottle with hot water ahead of time. But because of that, you don’t need access to power or even batteries to heat up your baby’s milk.

Having tested this bottle, we can say that it’s impressively quick if the water is super hot. However, if you’ve been storing the water for 6 or more hours, the bottle won’t keep it as hot, leading to less effective warming when it comes time to eat. The baristas at Starbucks did fill it with hot water from their tap for free, though.

That being said, it's the most-intuitive to operate of all of the warmers on our list, and dozens of parents have recommended it to me over the years.

When I first started realizing we had to figure out ways to leave home and feed our baby on the go, I was overwhelmed. Well, most parts of being a new parent are overwhelming, but when it comes to one of the most important parts of your baby’s life — their feeding — you want to get it right when you’re away from home.

Given, there are many ways to feed a baby, and for many parents, they’re combining a few of the following: nursing, bottle feeding, formula feeding and solids, as the baby becomes older. With all of these ways to feed a child, nailing it when you’re on the road, on the go and on vacation is an art.

In the following tips, I’m combining my practices in feeding my daughter with my sister’s tips, because between the two of us and our children, we have experienced all four of these ways to feed a baby. We’ve put together the handy products that have helped us set up comfortable feeding environments on the go, whether in the car, in a hotel room, in an Airbnb, on a cruise ship or on a plane.

Let’s see all the creative and proven ways to feed a baby while away from home!

Will you be feeding your baby during a flight? Don’t forget this list of the best tips for flying with an infant .

Nursing (0-12+ months)

Breastfeeding by definition doesn’t truly require many products, as the main goods are already on your body; however, there are some tips and tricks in terms of what I’ve been able to find for when I’m on the go and traveling.

Specifically for when I’m on road trips with my baby , I want to have everything ready for nursing if we need to have a feed in the car in a parking lot or rest area.

Remember, it’s legal to breastfeed anywhere (in the US: this may vary by country). In our guide for how to plan a trip to NYC with a baby , I talk about feeding our baby in a Starbucks with no problem.

Milkies Milk Saver

I started using this slim silicone “milk saver” as a way to catch drips and save milk, both at home and on the go. I started using this product during our trip to the Litchfield Hills and I’ll always have fond memories of nursing our daughter on the couch in the living room at our Airbnb.

The Milkies Milk Saver is dishwasher safe, and when I first took it out of the box (it also comes with a plastic carrying/storage case), we sanitized it in boiling water and then gave it a run in the dishwasher.

I think it’s a handy and simple product that fits great in my diaper bag, and it even can be “stood up” if you lean it against a large mug, bottle or other upright surface. I use the diaper bag from Nike, which you can read about at my Nike Diaper bag review .

For all the items I mention below that require washing, it’s crucial to bring your own dish soap. Until our most recent trip, we had always stayed in Airbnbs or hotels with kitchenettes, so there was always dish soap available. If you’re staying at a hotel with no kitchen, bring your own! I had the idea of bringing along a tiny 1.5-oz. milk vial full of dish soap from home, but I just found out that you can get Babyganics foaming dish soap for travel in a TSA-approved 100ml volume! Even better.

Travel-sized Hakka hand pump

I was introduced to the Hakka hand pump when I first gave birth to our daughter. I found out later that it comes in two sizes — 4 oz. and 5 oz. I keep the larger one at home, and I keep the smaller one in our diaper bag for when we are on the road.

The small Hakka pump can be used in two ways: first, it can also be a milk catcher, and can create suction to draw out more milk on the side from which you’re not feeding. It can also be used to pump, if you can get the hang of it (some women like to keep it on a nightstand to “comfort pump” in the middle of the night if they are feeling discomfort).

It’s small and because it’s silicone, it is slightly bendy, so it’s also easy to keep in a diaper bag or suitcase.

Medela hand pump

The Medela hand pump is something I’ve kept at the bottom of my diaper bag for travel for a while now. While it is not squishy silicone like the Hakka, its saving grace is that it can be broken down into a bout five pieces.

I’ve used this hand pump on the go if my baby refuses to take one side, and the sides feel uneven. I can use the manual pump to express a bit, and then put the milk into the bottle with the yellow Medela cover, right into a fridge or the Medela insulated carrying case. Many nursing moms consider this one of the best baby products for travel .

Disposable nursing pads

If you tend to have leaks, opt for disposable nursing pads that you don’t have to come back home with (anything for a lighter bag on the return trip, right?).

A few of these are good to keep in a diaper bag or in your toiletries bag while traveling, especially when you have a newborn and your supply is acclimating.

Ceres Chill Breastmilk Chiller

I’m not an owner of this rather revolutionary product in the world of nursing on the go, but I found out about it recently from a friend, and had to look into this one!

The Ceres Chill Reusable Storage Container is a breastmilk cooler that keeps milk at safe temperatures for 20+ hours. It also connects to most major pumps (Medela, Evenflo and more). It’s ideal for commuting, road trips and even being out at work for eight to nine hours.

It holds up to 24 ounces of milk and is dishwasher-safe and compact. Adapters are available for making it compatible with breast pump brands with which is not a direct fit.

Medela pump wipes

These sanitizing wipes from Medela help clean a pump while you’re out and away from a dishwasher.

Transporting refrigerated or frozen breastmilk

We do bottle feeding at night, so if we’re going to be away for even one night at minimum, we bring that night’s milk in a cooler and ice pack set when we leave the house. Recently I’ve been packing some refrigerated milk bottles from the fridge, along with a pack or two of frozen breastmilk from the freezer.

On our last road trip, we left home at around 9:30 am, stopped for lunch for about 90 minutes and then got to our Airbnb by 1 pm. The first thing I did was put the milk in the Medela cooler into the fridge, and like magic, the fridge milk was still cold and the frozen milk was about 95% still frozen.

Milk bags for the freezer

I have tried milk bags for the freezer from various brands, and I think the Lansinoh freezer bags are the best. They have the easiest zipper to close, and all you have to do is put the milk in and label it with a Sharpie.

Remember: breastmilk in a regular freezer is good for up to six months! I go by the CDC guidelines for breastmilk safety. View the CDC guidelines here.

Refrigerator milk bottles

For milk in the fridge, I wind up using the bottles that come from my Spectra pump . These are also the bottles I’ll take on a road trip in the Medela milk cooler, and they fit perfectly because they’re a standard 5-oz. size.

I also have some Lansinoh storage containers, as they’re for the Lansinoh bottles that my daughter takes as soon as we put the Lansinoh nipple on those. While we mostly use Comotomo bottles , I like that the Lansinoh bottles are a more standard size, so they’re less bulky in a diaper bag.

Medela milk cooler with ice pack

The Medela milk cooler is also not something I knew I needed, but I am so glad that I have it for being out and about or on a trip.

With this handy travel milk cooler, we could (if we needed to) bring up to 20 oz. of fridge milk in bottles, to our destination.

Typically I have a few fridge bottles and one or two frozen milk bags in there during a travel day.

Medela mini milk storage vial

For hand pumping or saved milk from a nursing session, I keep small amounts of milk (at room temperature for up to four hours as recommended by the CDC) in these vials while on the road.

Feeding breastmilk on the go

Now that you are able to store your breastmilk during travel, what about feeding it to your baby with bottles (if not breastfeeding)? Here are a few tips from my sister, who has done this more than I have, due to exclusive pumping for four months.

A diaper bag with insluation

My sister has the Bluekiwi diaper bag , which can fit four narrow 8-oz Dr. Brown’s bottles.

In the center insulated pocket, she’ll fit two bottles, plus an ice pack. The side insulated pocket can fit one bottle (without an ice pack). The fourth bottle-sized pocket is not insulated.

“Breastmilk pitcher”

This is a bit of a hack and workaround: my sister bought this smoothie/water bottle to use as a “breastmilk pitcher.”

When she has defrosted bags of breastmilk, she has poured them into this pitcher. Sometimes for travel, she’ll bring milk in this, and put it in a lunchbox with an ice pack.

Bottle Feeding & Formula Feeding (0-12+ months)

When my sister goes out of town, she usually packs four bottles. This is a good number of bottles to cycle through while also always having a clean one.

She washes her baby’s bottles in the dishwasher, and she brings a dishwasher basket (mentioned below) for the small bottle pieces. She and I both travel with a collapsible bottle drying rack, which again, helps keep things organized because there are so many bottle pieces (and pump pieces).

When Lily’s baby was younger, she avoided the dishwasher, and they hand washed the bottles and used the microwave sterilization bags. If you’re interested in microwave sterilizer bags , try these for times when you’re away from home.

Travel formula dispenser

While Lily and her husband are on the go, they bring a Munchkin travel formula dispenser . She just mixes the pre-measured formula with water, and shakes it up.

This dispenser has an easy spout, a snap-on lid for security, and holds enough formula to make three 8-oz. bottles.

Baby bottles for travel

Every parent (and baby) certainly has preferences about which brand of bottles to use. Before our baby was born, we had noooo idea that this was even a thing!

After experimenting with various brands of bottles (NUK, Dr. Brown’s, Comotomo, Spectra and Lansinoh) over her first three months, we came out with two contenders for the #1 favorite: Comotomo and Lansinoh.

My sister’s baby, however, prefers Dr. Brown’s bottles — the “skinny” type with the small nipple. I’ll leave links for all these types below!

Comotomo bottles are somewhat “modern” in that they’re very round (in the 5-oz. version) and have a bowl-like nipple. I like that they’re squishy. Our baby also likes playing with them in the bath (ha!).

Lansinoh bottles were recommended to us as bottles for breastfed babies because apparently the nipple mimics the “real thing.” We’ve had good luck with these, and I like that the small version is not so bulky when I pack one up in the diaper bag for a trip.

Dr. Brown’s “The Skinny Kind”

My mom group refers to the two models of Dr. Brown’s bottles as “the fat one” (or “the wide one”) and the tall/narrow version as “the skinny one.” My niece specifically takes the Dr. Brown’s skinny bottle , and has started feeding herself the bottle!

OXO Bottle brush travel kit & drying rack

This travel-sized drying rack was something I didn’t know I needed, and it’s so useful in serving as both a travel bottle brush (with a tiny bottle brush as well) and drying rack.

Check out Dan’s review of the bottle brush.

Open the folding case, and there’s a brush, along with a complete bottle or pump part drying rack. During our trip to Livingston Manor in the Catskills , we used this because we didn’t have a dishwasher in the hotel room. It was incredibly handy and kept our baby’s bottles clean for two days, making it one of the best items for surviving a hotel stay with a baby .

Portable bottle warmer

While you very well could use a hot mug of water to warm up a bottle where you’re staying, the Tommee Tippee travel bottle warmer is good for on the go. It fits into a changing bag and can warm up a bottle when you’re traveling.

It’s a mobile bottle warmer because it doesn’t require an external power source; it securely stores hot water with insulation, so that you can pop a bottle right in, whether you are camping, or in and out of a hotel.

Dishwasher basket for bottle parts

If you’re staying at a friend’s house, family member’s house or a vacation rental house, hopefully there is a dishwasher and you can use it to wash bottle and pump parts. Having the Munchkin dishwasher basket is pretty necessary for tiny things like bottle nipples, bottle tops and small parts of a pump like the small duckbill parts.

What’s great about this one is that it has two “levels,” with the lower basket big enough to hold things like sippy cup parts.

Feeding solid food while traveling (6+ months)

Babies are messy eaters, and unfortunately, our daughters both cannot be trusted to eat neatly without a high chair tray! If you’re up to feeding solid food while you’re on a trip, check out these ideas of how you can make the experience more seamless for you and your baby.

Booster seat for travel

My sister has the Chicco Pocket Snack Booster Seat , which stays at Grandma’s house. It has a good-sized tray and supportive seat back. It’s also totally packable for a road trip.

Canvas folding high chair

She also has the PandaEar portable canvas folding high chair that folds up into a little fabric travel bag. It’s very lightweight and can go right into the backseat on a road trip, or in the trunk of a car. You can strap it to a dining chair like a booster seat.

She can throw it into the stroller basket when they are having a picnic (it can be used on the ground and stands up on its own) in the park, or when heading to a restaurant. The weight and size of it are super convenient, although my sister admits that the tray is quite small, but it does have a cup holder. However, the “flat tray” is important to her.

Travel-friendly placemat

This is a placemat that she intends to buy, to bring to restaurants during trips. It would be good because if it is sticky after the meal, you can fold it shut and it won’t make the rest of your belongings sticky. Many restaurants in family-friendly travel destinations will be fine with you bringing this for the high chair.

Container of puffs and cereal

My sister keeps a container for puffs/cereal in the diaper bag when traveling. She likes this leak-proof plastic container because it’s small!

Also, the lid won’t fall off (it’s a screw lid, which is also pretty baby-proof). If you had a Ziploc bag, the cereal would get squished to crumbs.

A bib that folds up small for travel

We travel with an easy polyester bib that folds up small into our diaper bag. We call it “the smock!” Also, this long-sleeve bib is popular and works well for messy toddlers. It avoids having to use up an outfit change during a trip!

Cereal puffs

Lily also buys these cereal puffs from “Happy Baby” because many Gerber products have added sugar, which is good to know.

Puffs and finger-food cereals are great starter solids for being on the go because they’re not super messy. The older babies at my weekly baby/parent meetup often munch on these when they’re outside of the house.

Having a pouch of spoon-feedable baby food is going to be great for times when you’re feeding purees to your child. Also, we got our own pouches for purees so that we can make our baby’s favorite foods at home, put them in pouches, and take them on the go.

One of these would even safely fit in the pocket of our Baby Tula Compact Lite Baby Carrier , or in my Kibou fanny pack diaper bag for travel days.

How to pack your baby’s feeding essentials for travel

When you’re at home, you don’t necessarily think about how to make your set up mobile. Here are a few quick tips for taking your kit on the go.

On a road trip

For a road trip, like the ones we’ve done, we’ve taken our daughter’s milk in the small milk bottle cooler , and any baby food like jars or pouches in a food bag with our food and snacks. If you have a baby or toddler who’s eating what you eat, whlie at restaurants, that’s even more convenient!

The only thing to keep in mind about the milk cooler is that if you are thinking of leaving it in the car and it’s hot during summer, consider bringing it in with you into a rest stop or restaurant to keep it less hot, while the car is heating up in the sun in a parking lot.

In a personal item

On most airlines (at least in the US), your diaper bag is considered the lap infant’s personal item, meaning if you and a partner are already traveling on a flight, your diaper bag “does not count” toward the personal item allowance between the two of you.

In the diaper bag, you can keep enough food to feed your baby during the flight itself, and hopefully enough to sustain the baby before the flight and after landing as well.

As a measure of security, please check with your airline regarding its allowances for diaper bags, bags of formula or milk and baby food.

In a carry-on

If your food or milk for your baby or toddler won’t all fit in the diaper bag, consider splitting it up between a carry-on suitcase or backpack, as well as a checked bag. This way, if your checked bag gets lost, at least you will have some of your baby’s food in the carry-on, which came on the plane with you.

In checked baggage

If you have your baby’s feeding essentials (or half of them) in checked baggage (which is pretty realistic, if you are flying and going away for more than a day), consider pickin gup Apple AirTags for the trip. This way, if your luggage gets stuck during connecting flights somewhere, or even just stuck in holding at your destination, you can track the location of the bag from the Find My app on your phone.

8 Best Baby Bottles for Traveling

Sharing is caring!

Our baby was only eight weeks old when he took his first flight. One of the things we were stressing about (along with being first-time parents) was finding the best baby bottles for traveling.

Traveling with a baby means lots of stuff, but one of the most important things when traveling with a baby is feeding, which means bottles (or breasts).

I pumped and breastfed for nearly 15 months. I had to pump on the go , but certainly worth it to nourish our little guy and relieve the pain.

Traveling with breastmilk was easier than expected because we found the perfect baby bottle for traveling with our baby.

Not all bottles are created equal. When traveling, you may need to make a few adjustments to make things easier for yourself.

I pumped directly into the bottles, but that doesn’t need to be the case for everyone.

It just made it easier for me and reduced the chances of dropping my liquid gold, which we all know happens more than we’d like.

Now that our son is four years old and has been on over 120 flights, I feel confident that we’ve mastered traveling with a baby, although we’re still working through traveling with a toddler .

If you have a baby, now is the best time to travel . Things get a little more complicated when babies become opinionated toddlers with tantrums.

MAM Easy Start Matte Anti-Colic Baby Bottles is the best bottle for traveling with babies if you have a gassy little one.

There is a vented base design to release the liquid slowly to eliminate air bubbles and reduce gas.

The nipple mimics breastfeeding to reduce nipple confusion and increase bottle acceptance in little ones.

You do not need a sterilizer for these bottles because there is a self-sterilization feature.

Put 20 ml of water in the bottle, place the nipple inside, add the top, then microwave the bottle for up to 3 minutes.

This travel infant baby bottle is easy to clean by removing the bottom and washing it upside down.

Tommee Tippee Anti-Colic Baby Bottles

eufy Baby Monitor

We used Tommee Tippee Anti-Colic Baby Bottles while traveling with our son. I used the Spectra S9 and Specta S2 to pump directly into the bottles.

We initially used  Dr. Br o wn’s Anti-Colic bottles , but they made our little guy gassy. After that, we moved to Tommee Tippee when our little guy was eight weeks old.

There are a lot of pieces included with this bottle, but they are easy to clean, versatile, and have a heat-sensing strip.

The heat-sensing strip turns pink when your little one’s milk is too hot to put first-time parents at ease.

We used the  milk storage lids  for this bottle, which made it easy to travel with breast milk.

The lids made storing milk easier and cut down the need for milk storage bags, which felt like a waste.

We used plastic bottles (4 years ago), but now the bottles are available in glass and silicone.

Some parents may be concerned about nipple confusion, but we didn’t have a problem using these bottles while breastfeeding.

I recommend the silicone version. They are easier to clean and do not stain as quickly as plastic bottles.

My wife bottle-fed our baby while I rested, but it may not be the same for your little one. Every baby is different.

My one complaint about this travel bottle for infants is the bottle shape. It is a wide-brim baby bottle, so it doesn’t fit in the side pocket of most travel diaper bags .

  • Dishwasher safe
  • Seat-sensing strip
  • Easy to hold
  • A lot of pieces
  • Discoloration
  • Wide do not fit diaperbag pockets

Philips AVENT Natural Baby Bottle

Philips AVENT Natural Baby Bottle

Philips AVENT Natural Baby Bottle is a bottle designed for breastfeeding babies. The nipple is drip-proof, so it simulates the breastfeeding experience.

The baby actively pulls milk from the nipple to reduce nipple confusion if you supplement feeding with a bottle while traveling.

Many parents like this bottle while traveling on an airplane because their little one can control the pace. Plus, it reduces the pressure in their baby’s ears during takeoff and landing.

If you are pumping while traveling, you can pump directly into these bottles without an adapter, if you are using a Spectra breast pump .

The capacity of this bottle is up to 11 oz., so if you are a high producer, you can pump without having to change the bottle or use breast milk storage bags.

This bottle is easy to hold, so it will grow with your little one as they go from drinking 3-4 oz. to over 10 oz.

Like many travel bottles on our list, this traveling baby bottle is too big for most insulated diaper bag pockets.

  • No-drip design
  • Anti-colic valve
  • High capacity (11 oz)
  • Wide design

Nanobébé Flexy Silicone Baby Bottle

Nanobébé Flexy Silicone Baby Bottle

The Nanobébé Flexy Silicone Baby Bottle is one of the most popular bottles when traveling with a baby. With over 13,000 reviews and a 4.6-star rating, we had to include this popular traveling baby bottle on our list.

The Nanobébé is on our list of potential baby bottles for our next little one because it is easy to clean, has a non-tipping design, and includes quick-snap handles, which makes it perfect for traveling with a baby .

For some moms, it’s difficult finding a bottle that mimics the softness and shape of breasts, and this bottle fits the bill. The soft silicone comforts your little one while feeding, reducing the likelihood of nipple rejection if you supplement with baby formula or use a bottle while you work.

For babies that demand more milk (like our little guy), this bottle also has a version that can hold 9 oz, so it grows with your little ones.

When your little one becomes ready to transition to handles, this bottle has quick-snap handles for your baby to hold their bottles and develop their grip strength.

Like other bottles, there are different size nipples for whatever flow your little one needs. The nipples fit both Nanobébé models, so need to purchase anything extra if your baby prefers one over the other.

Overall, this is one of our favorite travel bottles for babies because it is easy to clean, quick, and flexible for little ones.

  • 360° venting
  • Soft for baby
  • Non-Tipping Design
  • Quick-snap handles
  • Wide design for diaper bag pockets
  • Learning curve to put lid on
  • Ounces difficult to see

4 Best Baby Bottles for Traveling with Older Babies

Now that your baby is no longer an infant finding a baby bottle for traveling is easier.

Your little one is drinking more, so you need larger bottles, and hopefully, they are holding the bottles by themselves.

Here are some of our favorite bottles for traveling with babies older than six months.

Comotomo Natural Feel Baby Bottle

Comotomo Natural Feel Baby Bottle

Comotomo Natural Feel Baby Bottle is one of the most popular bottles for traveling with a baby.

We are considering this baby bottle for traveling with our next little one. It is one of the best bottles for traveling with babies.

We love the anti-colic vents in the nipple, which means there are no additional pieces needed for this bottle while traveling.

The anti-colic vents ensure your baby gets all the milk they need without the air. You do not want a gassy baby while traveling.

With the placement of the vents in the nipple, there are no additional pieces, which makes this baby travel bottle easy to clean.

The silicone material makes this bottle flexible and easy for little ones to grip, although it is a chunky design.

This travel bottle for babies is one of the widest on our list, so you cannot pump directly into this baby bottle, which is a bummer for moms on the go.

Many parents highly recommend this bottle for breastfed babies transitioning or supplementing with a bottle.

Remember, one of the best tips for traveling with a baby is less is more.

You do not need to bring your entire nursery. The more you pack, the better chance you have of forgetting something.

  • Silicone material
  • Anti-colic vents
  • Very wide design
  • No breast pump attachments

Pura Kiki Stainless Steel Bottle

Pura Kiki Stainless Steel Bottle

For parents looking for a plastic-free option,  Pura Kiki Stainless Steel Bottle  is the best option for a baby travel bottle.

This travel bottle will grow with your little one. We love that this bottle is recyclable as your baby grows, which means less waste.

There is no need to purchase additional cups. As your little one grows, switch the nipple for a straw, then a spout to turn it into a water bottle.

Mix and match the different tops to accommodate little ones of all ages, and even put on a cap to protect your liquid gold.

The silicone holder makes it easy for babies and young toddlers to grip and hold.

Pura is the best travel bottle for older babies, especially if you have an active little one that throws their bottles.

Our little guy was a thrower, and a few of his bottles cracked after a few times.

These stainless steel bottles are strong enough to withstand a rough baby and toddler.

Easy remove the silicone holder to clean your baby’s bottle while traveling.

This is the perfect baby bottle for traveling families with little ones older than nine months.

Although this bottle isn’t insulated, if you have a little one that likes warm milk, consider the Pura Kiki insulated stainless steel bottle .

  • Grows with baby
  • Plastic-free
  • No extra pieces
  • Nipples too slow

Tommee Tippee Silicone Baby Bottle

Tommee Tippee Silicone Baby Bottle

We are biased when it comes to Tommee Tippee bottles. Our son used them when he was a baby, but the  Tommee Tippee Silicone Baby Bottles  are new.

These silicone bottles are easy to clean, stain-resistant, durable, and easy for your baby to hold.

Many parents compare this bottle to Comotomo.

The difference between these brands is that Tommee Tippie has more capacity and is more stable than Comotomo.

There is also more variety in the accessories and nipples for this brand compared to Comotomo.

I prefer this over the anti-colic bottles for infants above because they have few pieces. We will definitely be trying this bottle for traveling with our next baby.

  • Stain resistant
  • No small pieces
  • Hard to see numbers
  • Accessories are expensive

Boon NURSH Pouch Bottles

Boon NURSH Reusable Silicone Pouch Bottles

I try to include something different in our buying guides to help new brands gain exposure.

Boon NURSH Reusable Silicone Pouch Bottles  are unique travel bottles for older babies that I wanted to include on our list because they are different compared to the other baby bottles on our list.

With over 16,000 reviews, this travel bottle is perfect for little ones ten months or older who still drink breast milk or formula.

The silicone patch reduces your baby’s air intake while eating to avoid getting gassy.

What I love about these bags is that they can be frozen, microwaved, sterilized, and put in the dishwasher.

The pouches can be repurposed as snack containers when your little one outgrows milk.

There are no extra pieces to clean, plus the outer shell is easy for little ones to hold.

  • Dries quickly
  • Cap is slippery
  • Requires preparation

One of the popular materials used for baby bottles is plastic, glass, and silicone.

We highly recommend looking for a silicone bottle when traveling. They are easy to clean, easy to pack, odor-resistant, dry quickly, and do not discolor.

Although there is nothing wrong with plastic bottles, they can discolor, take longer to dry and smell awful if you cannot get to a sink to clean them.

The size of your travel bottle comes into play if your little one drinks more than five ounces of milk in one sitting.

We like the wide-brim bottles because you can get a few extra ounces without the bottle leaking.

Although this may not be the case for all brands, we’ve tried a few different brands of baby bottles, and wide-brim bottles leaked less than narrow bottles.

When traveling with kids , you want to avoid anything with too many pieces. I can tell you first-hand how frustrating it is to wash several small pieces in a hotel sink.

More pieces mean a great possibility of forgetting a piece at home or hotel, so I recommend travel bottles with as few pieces as possible.

Easy to Clean

When traveling with a baby, one of the most nerve-wracking things is cleaning bottles.

The travel bottles on our list are easy to clean on the go, mainly because they are wide-brim, which makes them easy for your hand to get inside and thoroughly clean.

Although Dr. Brown’s bottle is one of the most popular baby bottles, I didn’t include it on our list as one of the best baby bottles for traveling because there are small pieces that are hard to clean.

It’s easy for old milk to get stuck in the crevices of Dr. Brown’s bottles, so I avoid them when traveling with a baby.

Of course, we all know you do not want to switch bottles too often, so find a comparable bottle if you use this brand at home.

Versatility

When choosing baby bottles for travel, versatility isn’t the first thing to come to mind, but using a brand that can be transformed or used differently reduces the amount of stuff you need to carry when traveling with a baby.

For example, we loved the milk storage lids. They made traveling with milk easier, and we didn’t need to waste nipples, so there are fewer dishes to wash at the end of the day.

6 Best Portable Bottle Warmers, Tested by a Nursing Mom

profile picture of Christine Carpenter

In a nutshell: Based on hands-on product testing and extensive market research, we chose the Baby’s Brew 3.0 Portable Bottle Warmer as the overall best. This option stood out because of its compact, lightweight design, temperature controls and ability to heat a baby bottle quickly and efficiently on the go.

Whether you’re breastfeeding or bottle-feeding, there may come a time when you need to warm some milk for baby on the go—and whether it’s a family vacation or a day trip to grandma’s, we all know babies don’t exactly like to be kept waiting! That’s where a portable bottle warmer comes in.

Portable bottle warmers come in several varieties; some work via heat induction, others by keeping hot water in a thermos for later use. They can be powered by rechargeable batteries, wall sockets, or even no electricity at all. As a mom of two little boys (including a hungry 10-month-old), I need a quick, efficient, bottle warmer that’s easy to use and can heat the supplemental breast milk I provide for my baby. Even as a stay-at-home mom and freelance writer whose work is primarily in the home, I love the freedom of travel-friendly options for day trips. Bonus points if I can throw it in my already jam-packed diaper bag . Keep reading to shop my favorite picks for the best portable bottle warmers on the market right now, then learn more about what to look for in a travel bottle warmer.

How We Tested and Chose the Portable Bottle Warmers

baby travel milk bottle

Two things that don’t mix? A hungry baby and traveling. Fortunately, a portable bottle warmer can help you out in a pinch. To help you find the best portable bottle warmers on the market today, The Bump editorial team and I took the following steps:

  • I personally put eight portable bottle warmers to the test. I followed the assembly instructions and user guides supplied with the portable bottle warmers. I then heated my breast milk per each product’s instruction manual. I also tested any additional features; such as sanitizing pacifiers or heating baby food. After using each device, I cleaned the portable bottle warmers as directed. All this to determine which product is best for busy parents on the go.
  • After completing the steps above, I evaluated the portable bottle warmers based on the following criteria: assembly, portability, temperature controls, speed and additional features. From there each model received a score out of 10, with 1 being the worst possible score and 10 being the best.
  • As part of our research, we consulted guidelines by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on the proper storage and preparation of breast milk.
  • To see how these portable bottle warmers worked for a variety of families, we conducted exhaustive market research, scouring forums and message boards and reading user reviews to find out what parents across the country looked for in this type of device.

Editorial integrity is at the heart of everything we publish. Read about how The Bump develops and reviews all articles , including product reviews.

Best Portable Bottle Warmers

Overall best portable bottle warmer.

Baby's Brew Bottle Warmer with 4 Adapters

  • Fits in a cup holder
  • Fits 38 bottle brands
  • Slow heat technology ensures no hotspots
  • Only comes with one silicone ring, which can easily be misplaced

Baby’s Brew 3.0 Portable Bottle Warmer checks all the boxes for the best portable bottle warmer for breast milk or formula. It’s compact, lightweight and, best of all, efficient. The instructions for use are printed right on the outside of the box, making it easy to warm up a bottle right away. The device is compatible with 20 baby bottle brands, including the Philips Avent Natural bottles I use to feed my son supplemental breast milk. But I was impressed by the fact that it came with four adapters that accommodate 18 different brands, including both wide and narrow-neck bottles. The bottle screwed directly into the warmer easily and securely, without any leaking.

I love the heat settings on the Baby's Brew warmer. The four set temperatures are 80 F, 98 F, 103 F and 110 F, and the controls are super-easy to operate. There’s a single button at the base of the device, which you press and hold to turn it on or off, while quick presses let you adjust the temperature setting. Since breast milk touches the warmer, it needs to be cleaned after every use. However, it’s so simple to clean with either a breast pump wipe or a damp cloth, that I didn't find this to be a problem.

The compact size of this portable bottle warmer is also worth mentioning—it’s small enough to fit in a cup holder! Although it doesn’t come with a carry bag, I packed the Baby’s Brew warmer in my sling handbag and my diaper bag without adding any extra bulk. I also like that the cord was compatible with my iPhone 15 charger (C charger), making it so convenient to charge in the car or at home.

This handy little appliance came in clutch on a day trip to our local farm for an Easter egg hunt with my family. I had a bottle of pumped breast milk in a travel cooler bag and I simply screwed it into the warmer. Within a little over three minutes, my son’s bottle was warmed to a perfect body temperature of 98 degrees. There were no hot spots, and the milk warmed evenly and he took his bottle (very happily!) right away.

Dimensions: 7" (L) x 7" (W) x 3" (H) | Weight: 1.76 lbs | Auto shut-off: Yes

Our product tester says: “Baby's Brew 3.0 Portable Bottle Warmer Pro has everything you would want in a baby bottle warmer. It fits right into the car cup holder while warming, it’s easily transported in a diaper bag and it warms baby's bottle to the perfect temperature. I would definitely recommend it to both a formula feeding and breastfeeding mom!”

baby travel milk bottle

Best bottle warmer for breast milk

Portable Bottle and Breastmilk Warmer

  • Sleek design
  • Countdown timer
  • Steady warm setting preserves breast milk nutrients
  • Water level can be difficult to see
  • Better for use at a destination than on-the-go

This device is unique in that it features two different warming methods that ensure baby’s meal is the perfect temperature every time. The “quick warm” setting uses steam heat for formula bottles and baby food, while the “steady warm” setting uses a water bath to gently warm breast milk, all while preserving essential milk proteins. It’s worth noting that many bottle warmers on the market exclusively use steam heat, which can heat breast milk too quickly, causing hot spots, overheating and a loss of nutrients. Due to the precise settings, I would not be concerned about burning or damaging precious breast milk nutrients with this warmer.

Before I got started, I had to pour enough water into the bottle warmer so that it matched the milk level of the bottle. While the warmer came with a measuring vial, I did need a pitcher to effectively add the correct amount of water. Once this step was completed, I pressed the “cold” button (since my breast milk came out of the fridge), and then hit “steady warm" to begin the warming cycle. In total, it took 4 minutes to heat my baby's 4 ounce bottle using this setting. While this bottle warmer takes a bit longer than some of the less expensive steam heat options, I felt that the steady warm temperature setting was gentle and did not overheat my breastmilk.

One of my favorite features is the countdown timer which indicates how much time is left until my baby’s bottle is ready. Upon completion, the device makes a beeping sound and automatically shuts off for safety. I also love that there is a defrost setting, especially when my baby is hungry and my husband needs to quickly prepare some frozen breast milk. While it’s incredibly lightweight, this model is larger than other travel bottle warmers and has to be plugged at the mains. While it wouldn’t fit in a cup holder or my diaper bag, I would pack it for day trips and extended stays because of its many great features.

Dimensions: 11.5" (H) x 5.5" (W) x 6.5" (D) | Weight: 3 lbs. | Auto shut-off: Yes

Our product tester says: “At around $60, this warmer is well worth the price. It packs a bunch of great features. I love that it is a lightweight option, with plenty of up-to-date technology. I would buy this warmer for myself or another mom!”

Best smart portable bottle warmer

NutriSmart Bottle Warmer

  • Car adapter
  • Timer for automatic warming
  • Rapid steam mode heats a bottle in 80 seconds
  • No carry bag
  • Doesn’t fit in a cup holder
  • Instructions were a little confusing

This travel-friendly bottle warmer features the word “smart” in the title—with good reason. The warmer detects the temperature of baby’s bottle and automatically determines the optimal heating times for your baby’s milk. Talk about a game-changer!

It’s a relatively lightweight bottle warmer, but it doesn’t fit into a cup holder or diaper bag, so a purpose-built carry bag for the warmer and cables would have been a nice addition. With that said, it does come complete with a car AC port, so you can charge it on the move making it a great option for road trips. And although you do have to add water, this bottle warmer didn’t leak, which is a huge plus.

Another fantastic feature was the delayed warming feature. My baby wakes up around midnight every night, so I was able to program the warmer to automatically begin warming at that time. I also love that with the “keep warm” function, I can heat a bottle and then heat a baby food jar and keep it warm (98.6 degrees) for up to one hour. This feature is perfect for my happy little eater who looks for food about a half hour after his bottle feed!

Dimensions: 7" (L) x 5.5" (W) X 3” (D) | Weight: 2 lbs. | Auto shut-off: Yes

Our product tester says: “The bottle was heated to perfection as it automatically adjusts the warming time to achieve an optimal temperature. The milk was warmed evenly and without any hot spots.”

Best fast-acting portable bottle warmer

Momcozy Portable Bottle Warmer, Safety Material Baby Bottle Warmer for Travel with 5 Connectors

  • Long battery life
  • Heats milk in 2 to 3 minutes
  • Silicone rings need to be very secure or the bottle will leak
  • Must be used with an adapter

Need a warm bottle for baby in a flash? Enter Momcozy Cordless Portable Baby Bottle Warmer. The bottle warmer charges lightning fast and requires no water for use, so it’s ready to go right out of the box.

The controls—which can be set to Fahrenheit or Celsius—are simple to operate and offer six different temperature settings. I heated my baby’s supplemental 1.5 ounce bottle in two minutes flat, while a 3.5 ounce bottle only took about three minutes. I was so impressed with how quickly this warmer achieved the optimal temperature. While other compact bottle warmers can take up to ten minutes to complete a warming cycle, this little device heats up in no time at all.

I used this portable milk warmer while playing outside with my toddler and 10-month-old. It was so convenient to have on hand and I loved that I didn’t have to disturb my toddler’s outdoor time to come in and warm up his little brother’s bottle.

Dimensions: 7" (L) x 5.5" (W) X 3" (D) | Weight: 2 lbs. | Auto shut-off: Yes

Our product tester says: “It heated very cold milk at a steady pace and took about 3 minutes to get to 98 degrees. The bottle heated my breast milk to a perfect body temperature with no hot-spots.”

Best budget-friendly bottle warmer

The First Years Baby Bottle Warmer and Sterilizer - Pacifier and Bottle Nipple Sanitizer

  • Sanitizes pacifiers
  • Heats breast milk, formula and baby food
  • Affordable price point
  • Not suitable for glass bottles
  • Can overheat milk, damaging breast milk nutrients

With a price tag under $20, you’ll be hard pressed to find another portable bottle warmer as good as this one by The First Years. Doubling as a sterilizer, this warmer uses steam heat to sanitize pacifiers or quickly warm baby bottles and food jars. While there is no temperature indicator, the milk is warmed by measuring out the desired amount of water based on how many ounces of milk (note: breastmilk or formula require different amounts) you're preparing. I like that it comes with a vial to help you precisely measure the amount of water that needs to be added. And there's a slot in the back of the appliance for the “warming card” complete with heating times per ounce for both breastmilk and formula. It’s also very simple to operate with one button that lights up while warming and an automatic shut-off feature. The simple device has no advanced settings, but the use of steam heat gives the bottle a nice, even temperature. And I personally love that it heats up within a minute!

This portable bottle warmer takes up very little room in a pantry and occupies minimal counter space. While it doesn’t come with a travel bag, I still packed it up and brought it with me on trips to my parents and friend’s homes. It doesn’t fit into a cup holder, but it fits into my diaper bag, even if it is a little bulkier than other options. While it requires an outlet for use when traveling, I like that the box is so compact and holds all of the pieces nicely, so I do still consider it to be a lightweight, portable option. On a final note: I love that the water vial, basket, ring and sanitizer lid are all top-rack dishwasher-safe, making it easy to clean the individual components.

Dimensions: 4.6" (L) x 4.6" (W) 6.5" (H) | Weight: 1 lb | Auto shut-off: Yes

Our product tester says: “At around $20, you get huge value for your money with this bottle warmer. Not only does it sterilize, but it heats bottles so quickly and efficiently. While it doesn't have many of the bells and whistles (temperature controls or defrost settings), I love the safety feature of the automatic shutoff and I feel the features exceed the price point.”

Best insulated portable bottle warmer

Kiinde Kozii Voyager, Compact Travel Bottle Warmer for Breast Milk

  • Budget-friendly
  • Kept water hot for hours
  • Two warming cups heat different size bottles or food pouches
  • No temperature controls
  • I didn’t love handling boiling water around my baby and toddler

The Kiinde Kozii Voyager Travel Bottle Warmer is the perfect option to take on the go. Whether you’re heating breastmilk, formula or baby food, this simple thermos-style bottle warmer does the job. Assembly was a breeze and, since this warmer uses hot water, there are no buttons, controls or electricity required. Better yet, it fits right into my car and stroller cup holder and doesn’t add a tremendous amount of weight to a diaper bag, making it the perfect choice for quick outings or long car journeys.

The travel bottle warmer comes with a stainless steel water container and an insulated outer shell that breaks apart to become two warming cups. To heat a bottle, simply place it in a warming cup and pour in water from the flask. Thanks to the stainless steel construction the water stays hot for over eight hours! I especially love that it came with two warming cups; one tall and one short. This allowed me to heat both a baby food pouch and a bottle at the same time if needed. And cleaning this warmer was so easy; I simply used a bottle brush, which easily sanitized all surfaces.

While this is somewhat of an old-school method, I still felt that this portable bottle warmer heated my baby's food pouches and bottles to perfection. I was able to pull out the bottle after about two minutes and tested the temperature on my forearm to ensure that the milk did not get too hot.

Dimensions: 4" (L) x 4" (W) x 8.7" (H) | Weight: 1.2 lbs. | Auto shut-off: No

Our product tester says: “The Kozii Voyager fits nicely into my diaper bag and it also fits in my car and stroller cup holder—so I don't have to waste precious space if my diaper bag is full with many other items for my baby and toddler.”

Portable Bottle Warmer Comparison Chart

What to look for in a travel bottle warmer.

The first thing to consider when you’re looking for a bottle warmer is how you’ll use it. If you’re looking for a smaller model that’ll use up less shelf space at home and pack well into a suitcase for setup at your destination, a smaller model of a normal bottle warmer—the type that plugs into a wall socket—will get the job done. If you want something for use in a car or on a hiking trip, you’ll need something that’s not tied to a power source. You might want a rechargeable, battery-powered bottle warmer or an electricity-free thermos-style option. But whichever model you choose, we’ve gathered a few things to consider when shopping for the best portable bottle warmer:

  • Size. Will the bottle warmer sit on a hotel bedside table? Or does it need to be stashed in a diaper bag? Bottle warmer sizes vary, and some are bulkier than others. For the utmost in on-the-go convenience, a thermos-style portable milk warmer makes a great option. Personally, I enjoyed the lightweight models that could easily fit back into the packaging for easy transportation to my parent’s house as well as warmers that easily fit into the cup holder in my car and stroller.
  • Power source. The earliest bottle warmer models operated by plugging them into an electrical socket. But today, you can find rechargeable USB bottle warmers or cordless bottle warmers that operate using batteries. Consider what, if any, power source you might need before shopping. I particularly loved when a warmer had a USB-C cable for charging, as this meant I could keep the cord in my diaper bag or handbag, and use my iPhone charger as an additional cord for car charging.
  • Ease of cleaning. When it comes to anything related to babies, convenience and cleanliness are key! Look for a travel bottle warmer that’s easy to clean, rather than having tons of parts to remove and replace before using. Components and/or adapters that are dishwasher safe or can be easily wiped down are a bonus!

And when it comes to feeding baby, keep in mind that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends using breast milk within two hours of coming to room temperature. So if you use a portable bottle warmer to warm milk, it’s important that you feed it to baby right away. You May Also Like

I loved that this was a) portable and b) came with all the major bottle attachments, esp since I use a mix of comotomo, boon, medela, and Dr. brown bottles. It supports them all in a device that is a bit heavier than your standard external charger and about the size of a 12oz metal water bottle. I so glad I can take a bottle when we go out for a few hours and have the confidence that i can heat it up to body temp for my spoiled child. It delivers.

I have tried different brands of bottle warmers and honestly this one has worked best for me. It does take a little to warm up not too long.

This bottle warmer is perfect for on the go. It gets the job done! I wish the battery would last longer but we just take the charger with us just in case! Our Avent bottles work great and it does not take long to warm either. I can not wait to take this with us when we actually travel!

Convenient and comes with different attachments for the bottles! Be careful not to lose the o-ring for each attachment. It can take a little longer to warm if the milk is super cold.

I LOVE that this heats milk up right in its container, and I do not have to fuss with adding the right amount of water or grabbing a hot container out when it is done. I can choose the perfect temperature for my little one and it is never taken more than 5 minutes to warm up (depends on how cold the liquid is when it is starts). Charge it and toss it in the baby bag to-go! I love it for my breast milk!

Traveling with Baby Bottles: A Guide to Sterilization on the Go

As a parent, one of your top priorities is ensuring your baby's feeding equipment, especially the bottles, are clean and safe.

baby travel milk bottle

Cleaning bottles is key in keeping baby healthy while traveling. The CDC recommends:

"Bottles should be cleaned after every feeding. If your baby does not finish drinking a bottle within 2 hours, throw away the unfinished formula. Germs can grow quickly if breast milk or formula is added to a partially used bottle, or if a used bottle is only rinsed, rather than cleaned."

And although they are very clear about washing after each use, most parents don't realize that you don't also have to sterilize bottles after every feeding except for a few different circumstances. In that case, the CDC says:

"For extra germ removal, sanitize feeding items at least once daily. Sanitizing is particularly important when your baby is younger than 2 months, was born prematurely, or has a weakened immune system. Daily sanitizing of feeding items may not be necessary for older, healthy babies, if those items are cleaned carefully after each use.

Before sanitizing, make sure you have cleaned feeding items, bottle brushes, and wash basins using one of the methods above. Sanitize all items (even the bottle brush and wash basin) by using one of the following options."

Below lets explore simple and effective methods to sterilize baby bottles while traveling, ensuring a worry-free journey for you and your baby.

Boiling Method: Keeping It Simple

The boiling method is a classic, tried-and-true way to sterilize baby bottles, even when you're away from home. Here's how you can do it:

Give the bottles a thorough cleaning using hot soapy water and a bottle brush.

Rinse them well to remove any traces of soap.

Find a pot and fill it with enough water to submerge the bottles completely.

Place the bottles and their parts in the pot and bring the water to a rolling boil.

Let the bottles boil for at least 5 minutes, ensuring everything is submerged.

Use clean tongs to carefully take the bottles out and let them air dry on a clean surface.

Microwave Sterilizer Bags: A Mom's Best Friend

baby travel milk bottle

When you're traveling, convenience is key. Microwave sterilizer bags are a mom's best friend! These compact, reusable bags offer a quick and easy way to sterilize baby bottles. Here's how to use them:

Disassemble the bottles and give them a thorough cleaning.

Pop the bottles, nipples, and small parts into the sterilizer bag.

Add the specified amount of water as indicated on the bag.

Seal the bag tightly and place it in the microwave.

Microwaves may not always be in the room if you are staying in a hotel, so I like to ask the front desk if there is one available in the breakfast area or even in the kitchen that I can use. Most are very accommodating.

Follow the instructions on the bag for the appropriate microwave settings and time.

Once sterilized, allow the bag to cool before opening, and voila! Your bottles are ready to go.

Alternatively I have used these bags with the pot boiling method as well:

Bottles or pump parts already in the bag.

Instead of the microwave I use a tea kettle (or other method of boiling water) to carefully pour boiling water into the bag.

If you are staying in a hotel and there is no tea kettle or coffee maker in your room, you can usually find boiling water in hotel kitchens or breakfast areas.

Once bottles are covered I close the bag and let them sit in the boiling water for 5 minutes and then place on a drying rack to dry.

Sterilizing Tablets or Solutions: Compact and Portable

baby travel milk bottle

Sterilizing tablets or solutions are fantastic options for sterilizing baby bottles while traveling. They're compact, lightweight, and easy to use. Here's what you need to do:

Give the bottles and their parts a thorough cleaning.

Dissolve a sterilizing tablet or the recommended amount of solution in a container of clean water.

Submerge the bottles and parts in the solution, ensuring they're fully immersed.

Let them soak for the recommended duration.

Once done, take the bottles out and give them a thorough rinse with boiled or bottled water.

UV Sterilizer: Compact and Chemical-Free

baby travel milk bottle

When it comes to on-the-go sterilization, UV sterilizers are game-changers. These compact devices use ultraviolet light to kill germs and bacteria without the need for heat or chemicals. Here's how you can use a UV sterilizer:

Disassemble the bottles and give them a good scrub with warm soapy water.

Rinse the bottles thoroughly to remove any residue.

Place the bottles and their parts in the UV sterilizer.

Follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer for the recommended sterilization time.

Once the process is complete, take out the bottles and allow them to air dry.

When it comes to sterilizing baby bottles on the go, these simple and parent-friendly methods will help keep your baby's feeding equipment clean and germ-free. Remember to prioritize cleanliness and follow the instructions provided with the specific sterilization method you choose. By taking these steps, you can embark on your travels with confidence, knowing that your baby's health is well taken care of.

History of Kefir: Magical grains

There is a legend among the Islamic people living on the northern slopes of the Caucasus Mountains that Mohammed gave kefir grains to Orthodox Christians, thereby teaching them to make kefir. Called the “Grains of the Prophet,” they were jealously guarded by their owners, as they believed the grains would lose their potency if the secret of their use became common knowledge. Thus, kefir grains were secretly passed from one generation to the next, closely guarded as part of the wealth of each family within the tribe, and although foreigners were sometimes given kefir to drink—Marco Polo recounts tasting kefir in the book of his eastern travels—the method of making kefir was kept secret and the drink was all but forgotten until the 19th century.

Kefir Grains

It cannot be overlooked that kefir grains really can be described as “magical”: despite intensive research spanning well over a century and many attempts to produce kefir grains from pure or mixed cultures normally found in the grains, no successful results have been reported to this day, likely because so very little is known about the way in which the kefir grains form.

Making Kefir

The most ancient methods of making kefir were far from complicated: fresh milk—from cows, goats, or sheep—was poured into watertight bags made of goat or sheepskin and the “magical,” cauliflower-like grains of a kefir culture were added before the bag was suspended in the sun during the day. When the sun went down, the bag was brought inside and hung near the door. Each person passing in or out of the doorway would push or prod the bag, helping ensure that the milk and kefir grains remained well mixed as the milk fermented. As kefir was consumed, more milk was added to the bag so that the process could continue uninterrupted—as it had for hundreds or even thousands of years, descended through the ages from kefir grains first used many generations ago.

Occasionally, kefir was made in clay pots, wooden buckets, or even vats of oak, but the most traditional method of making kefir was in watertight skin bags.

Shepherds could make their own kefir as they traveled: when leaving home, they would take skins of kefir with them on their treks across the slopes, adding fresh milk from the animals they herded to replace what they consumed. As the shepherd moved, the milk would mix with the kefir grains and ferment into the mildly self-carbonated beverage that they drank and simultaneously used to make more kefir.

Word of kefir spreads

During the Victorian Age, news spread that the use of kefir was successful in the treatment of such varied diseases as tuberculosis and intestinal and stomach diseases and Russian doctors began studying kefir’s properties in earnest. Although the first studies on the benefits of kefir were published at the end of the 19th century, kefir was still very difficult to find as, without the kefir grains, it was impossible to make.

Determined to obtain the elusive kefir grains in order to make kefir for their patients on an industrial scale, members of the “All Russian Physician’s Society” approached two brothers named Blandov with a request for them to procure kefir grains for the project. The Blandov brothers owned and ran the large Moscow Dairy and also owned cheese-manufacturing factories in the town of Kislovodsk in the Northern Caucasus region.

The story of Kefir is straight out of a romance novel

What happened next is a story straight out of a bodice-ripper: one of the brothers, Nikolai, sent Irina Sakharova — a beautiful, young employee — to the court of a local prince named Bek-Mirza Barchorov with instructions to charm the prince and obtain some kefir grains for the operation. Although the prince Bek-Mirza greatly desired Irina, he feared violating religious laws and refused to give away the “Grains of the Prophet.” Recognizing that her mission was a failure, Irina and the men accompanying her left to return to Kislovodsk. The prince, however, was not going to let Irina escape; as it was a local custom to steal a bride prior to marrying her, Bek-Mirza sent the men of a local mountain tribe to capture the hapless beauty. Following her kidnapping, Irina remained steadfastly silent while the prince proposed marriage to her, buying herself enough time for her employers — the brothers Blandov — to organize a daring mission to save her from a forced marriage to the besotted prince.

After Irina’s rescue, Prince Bek-Mirza Barchorov was brought before Tsar Nicholas II who ruled that, in compensation for the kidnapping and other insults to her person that she was forced to endure, Prince Bek-Mirza give Irina ten pounds of kefir grains.

Following the royal ruling, the priceless kefir grains were taken to the Moscow Dairy owned by the Blandov brothers and the first bottles of kefir ever manufactured commercially were offered for sale in Moscow in September 1908. However, it wasn’t until the 1930s that the manufacture of kefir began on a large scale.

However, the first kefir-making process wasn’t without its complications. The first commercial product was made by growing a quantity of kefir grains in milk and then straining them out before using the cultured milk to ferment a larger batch of fresh milk. The resulting mixture was given time to ferment and set aside to cool. Unfortunately, although the finished product was greatly inferior to the kefir traditionally produced, it wasn’t until the 1950s that the process was perfected. The employees of the “All-Union Dairy Research Institute” (VNIMI) developed a better method which included stirring the mix of kefir grains and milk in a large vessel and permitting the entire process—consisting of fermentation, coagulation, agitation of the mixture, ripening of the kefir, and its cooling—to take place in the same container prior to being bottled and sold.

In 1973, when Irina Sakharova was 85 years old, the Minister of Food and Industry of the Soviet Union sent her a letter acknowledging her part and thanking her for bringing kefir to the Russian people.

Health Benefits of Kefir

The people of the Caucasus region are famed for their extraordinary longevity and many accredit this to their regular consumption of kefir. Hospitals in the former USSR used kefir to treat conditions ranging from atherosclerosis, allergic disease, metabolic and digestive disorders, tuberculosis, cancer, and gastrointestinal disorders.

In recent years, scientific studies have proven that kefir is able to stimulate the immune system, enhance lactose digestion, as well as inhibit tumors, fungi and pathogens — including the bacteria that cause most ulcers, Helicobacter pylori. Given that scientists are now discovering that bacteria may trigger many inflammatory diseases, including some types of heart disease, regular consumption of kefir may really account for longevity and continued health as we age.
