So much fun!

This was the highlight of my trip so far. Quad biking through such beautiful scenery and passing many friendly local Balinese people on the way. All the staff were really friendly and chatty when we arrived which was nice. We went in a group of four and we got to go together just us with our guide who was really friendly. There wasn't a great deal of explanation as to what to do before hand but he was very quick to help as soon as there were any issues and to offer advice along the way. 2 of us girls hadn't ever ridden a quad before but found it easy enough and had a lot of fun. Some of the trail gets pretty hectic going through lots of mud, puddles and little hills and ditches. I was a bit scared at first but quickly realised how safe and Sturdy the bikes were and I was plowing through it all in no time. Can't stress enough how much fun this was and how happy we were with the staff and facilities. Lunch was beautiful as well!

Based on the reviews I have read there is a large variety in the experience that people have. We got to go on 4 different tracks including descending into the river and definitely had a great experience with fun challenging tracks. I think they cater the tour depending on the size and type of group. Afterwards you get to have a meal there included and they have shower facilities. The ride there and back was very comfortable too. All over a great experience.

This was simply amazing! From the moment we were picked up to the moment we were dropped off we had a smile on our face. The staff were so friendly at all the activities and we were blessed with the greatest driver and tour guide. The ATV tour had wonderful scenery and a great balance of exciting and fast paced riding through the jungle, to relaxed on-road riding. It was so beautiful to ride past the rice fields and meet the locals. The 30 minute elephant ride was a great photo op and we had the time to learn about these beautiful animals with a great English speaking guide. With so much information online about ATV’s in Bali it can be a daunting task to find answers and get accurate information. Even though we live here and feel pretty connected to the offerings, there were still things we wish we had known before we went on our own ATV Bali adventure.

In this article, we will share answers to the most commonly asked questions and cover everything you need to know to help make the most of your ATV Bali experience.

Can You Drive an ATV (Quad) in Bali?

The short answer is yes.

ATV’s, which stand for all-terrain vehicles, also known as quad bikes, are available to drive in designated areas in Bali. You can find ATV tours that take you through stunning rice fields, jungle trails, and even along the beach.

The majority of tours are suitable for all levels of skill, but those with more experience will have the opportunity to explore more challenging terrain.

What Type of ATVs Can You Rent in Bali?

You can rent various types of ATVs in Bali, depending on your desired experience. Most people rent standard four-wheelers, but you can also find two-wheeled options and even the buggy-style.

The best way to choose the best ATV is to consider the terrain you will be driving on and any additional safety measures needed.

What Should I Wear When Riding

When riding an ATV in Bali, it is important to dress appropriately for the experience. You should wear closed-toe shoes with good grip, as well as long pants and a shirt that covers your arms.

A helmet is also essential and will be provided by most rental companies. Many of the rental companies will also provide you with tall rubber boots to wear so no worries if you arrive in flip flops.

Although, I suggest bringing along a pair of socks to wear with the boots since they can get sweaty.

Pro tip: I suggest not wearing anything that you are not ok to get wet and dirty. There is usually a lot of water and mud involved in these ATV experiences.

Where Can You Drive an ATV in Bali?

Most ATV rental companies will provide you with a list of available routes. Depending on your experience level and the type of terrain you are looking for, there is sure to be something that fits your needs.

Some popular spots are the jungle trails in Uluwatu, rice terraces and water track near Ubud, or a beachside adventure from Sanur. About 90% of all Bali ATV tours take place at a designated track in northern Ubud.

How Much is the ATV Ride in Bali?

Depending on which tour you decide on, the cost of an ATV ride experience will range anywhere from 25 – 100 USD. The cost typically depends on the length of the tour, how many people you are with, and whether or not you need transportation to and from.

We paid around 35 USD per person for our two-hour ATV ride in Bali, but most rental companies will offer deals for larger groups.

The ATV’s that we experienced and saw from other companies were in working order but not in the best of condition. But the guides were super quick to fix or supply a backup quad bike if one broke down.

Do You Need a License for ATV Bali?

No, you do not need a license to ride ATV’s in Bali. It is better if you have had some experience driving off-road vehicles, but it is not necessary.

Do You Need Shoes for ATV Bali?

I suggest wearing close-toed shoes with a good grip for your ATV Bali experience. The terrain can be rocky and uneven, so you want to make sure you have good traction. If the rental company doesn’t provide boots, you may want to bring extra shoes that you don’t mind getting muddy.

How Old Do You Have to Be to Ride an ATV in Bali?

The minimum age required by most ATV rental companies is 13 years old. However, they allowed our 12-year-old to ride by himself with extra instruction. Kids under the minimum age were allowed to ride tandem with an adult. Make sure to check on the age requirements with the specific company.

When is the Best Time to Go?

Many companies will close their tracks when it rains due to safety concerns, so be sure to check with them beforehand. However, by going during the rainy season there is a good chance that you will be able to avoid the crowds.

How to Get There

The good news is that most tour companies offer hotel pick-up and drop-off options. Now, if you’re a do-it-yourselfer, you have a couple of choices.

You can either rent a self-drive car or a scooter. It’s best to have some experience driving in Bali or other Southeast Asian countries.

Riding ATVs in Bali through waterfalls and rice fields was one of the best things I’ve done on the island. The tour we did was an ATV bundled with white water rafting , for a whole day of adventure.

All About ATV & Quad Riding in Bali 

Ubud is a landlocked travel destination, so it doesn’t have a beach to attract tourists. What it does have is an awesome jungle landscape, full of rice terraces and natural waterfalls – Riding ATVs in Ubud is an adventurous activity that showcases the best of Ubud’s scenery.

One of my favorite things about the tours in Bali is that you can customize and bundle them to suit whatever type of excursion you want. For example, we bundled our quad-bike tour in Ubud with white water rafting down the Telaga Waja River in Sidemen, for a full day of adrenaline!

Katie’s Tips ✶

There are many copycat ATV tour tracks in Ubud, and they’re not all equal. It’s hard to distinguish what are the better ATV companies since they usually use the same photos to advertise. I recommend going with tours that have all 5-star online reviews since I have heard some horror stories from travelers who were tricked by tour companies that use fake stock photos.

Cost of ATV Riding in Ubud & Bali

The prices vary considerably by tour company if you’re booking a tandem vs solo ride, the engine CC of your quad bike, and if you’re booking an independent vs. a bundle tour. Generally, I would budget around $30-50 per person for the ATV tour in Ubud, and more if your tour includes transportation.

We paid $70 per person for an ATV + Rafting tour, per person, but it didn’t include transportation and we had to drive our own scooters. So, we paid around $35 for the ATV tour alone, but it would have been more expensive if we had booked a tour that included transportation.

For some tours, including ATV Riding, it’s cheaper right now to book through a tour agency rather than directly with the company. I did some research into this for this article (and because I’m always hunting for a deal).

The agency where I booked my ATV + Rafting bundle tour told me the providers they were working with, and I reached out to them and was quoted way more than double the price I was paying to book through an agent!

This is because the tour provider offers massive discounts to the agencies to get their business, so if you book direct and pay cash, you might get a worse deal 🤷‍♀️.

💰  Budget Tip!   This tou r  is the cheapest I’ve ever seen a quad tour online, only $30 per ATV (so if you’re 2 people, $15 each!)

My Top Tips for Riding ATVs in Bali 

✅ book a private tour.

We had a private tour by coincidence, and you just get so much more out of the experience. Our guide doubled as our personal photographer for our whole trip, and since it was just us, we have our whole ATV tour documented!

One of the biggest complaints travelers have about these quad tours is when there are too many people going slowly, and it causes a traffic jam. There’s not enough room on the ATV tracks for passing, so a traffic jam would be the end of the fun if even just one person is going slow or gets stuck.

✅ Consider Taking a Combo Tour

You can book an ATV half-day tour in Ubud, but if you bundle it with another tour option, for example, a high swing, Ubud highlights tour, or White Water Rafting, it’s an amazing all-day experience. That’s what we did when we booked our Quad-riding tour in Ubud, we bundled it with White Water Rafting for a  long  and adventurous day.

✅ Know About the “Bali Sock”

Right when we arrived we were given knee-high mud boots and plastic bags. “What’s this?” I asked, and our guide replied “The Bali Sock!” 😂. You cover your feet with the plastic bag and then use a rubber band to make sure it stays put. I’m sure it helped a little bit, but my feet were still soaked by the end of our ATV tour!

✅ Prepare to Get MUDDY!

The tires kick up mud as the ATV drives so prepare to get super muddy. Especially if you’re in a group, the more ATVs, the more mud getting kicked up!

✅ Wear Full-Coverage Clothes for Safety

Just for safety reasons, you might want to wear full-coverage clothing (long sleeves, long pants) for the ATV tour. It’s not required, but you might drive past a stick or something that can scratch you.

✅ You Can Book a Tandem or Solo Ride

You have the option with most ATV tours to either book a Tandem ride, which is when you share a bike or a solo ride. The solo rides cost a bit more since you’re using two ATVs instead of one. I did my ATV tour tandem, and it was nice since we got to switch off with the driving.

✅ Take an ATV Tour With Lots of 5-Star Reviews – Not All ATV Companies in Bali are Good

There are some bad reports online from quad-biking tour companies in Ubud that let 20+ people join a tour at once. The ATV tracks aren’t wide enough to allow passing, so all taking tours that big does is cause traffic jams. We had a little bit of a traffic jam on our ATV tour, and that’s because the group in front of us wouldn’t stop taking photos 😂.

If there are too many people in a group, or if there’s not enough time between when the ATV tour groups depart, it will cause a traffic jam.

Quad biking is one of the activities I wouldn’t book unless it was with a company with 5-star reviews because being stuck in traffic on an ATV is no fun for anyone!

Full-Day Bali Adventure Tour with Quad Bikes and Rafting <  What We Did!

This ATV and rafting combo tour  is one of the BEST tours I’ve ever taken in Bali!  The adventure combo of ATV riding in Ubud, and then visiting the Telaga Waja River for rafting after was  an incredibly fun day.  

My friend and I chose to share an ATV, aka ride Tandem, which means we shared a bike. If you choose to ride tandem, you get a decent discount for the cost of the tour, and it’s also nice because while one person is driving the other can enjoy how crazy the experience is. 

On our adventure ATV tour we were taken through tunnels and under waterfalls in Ubud. While some parts of the ATV track were manmade, like the tunnel with Balinese-style carvings at the entrance, it still felt adventurous. 

The river tour was another hidden gem, with plenty of waterfall stops along the way while snaking our raft through  gorgeous  rice-field line ravines. After each leg of our tour, we were treated to a surprisingly fresh Indonesian buffet meal.  

The ATV & Telaga Waja River Rafting tour is the best combo tour I’ve done so far through all of my travels in Bali!

I took an ATV tour in Ubud when I was living there for six months and my friend came to visit I wanted to show him all the best that the town had to offer.

It’s crazy how you can live somewhere for months and months and never do the most popular activities! For example, I’ve been in Ubud alone for over half a year and I’ve never gone to the purifying water temple. 

When I worked in Manhattan on 34th and Madison, I never went to the top of the Empire State Building (even though I went to the Starbucks on the ground floor almost every day!) – It’s just one of those things when you get used to a location and stop exploring. 

However, I’m SO HAPPY I chose to do an ATV + Rafting combo adventure tour in Ubud. 

I’ve been traveling Bali and Indonesia for four years and it’s one of the best tours I’ve done on Bali mainland, up there with  swimming with the dolphins in Lovina  and taking a Sunrise Kintamani volcano tour of Mt. Batur. 

Our ATV + Rafting combo tour was a day of pure adventure where we got to zip around through foot-deep mud puddles, drive under natural waterfalls, up rickety ramps, and through tunnels. 

To be honest, while there were elements of the ATV track that we could tell were artificial, it also felt like we were driving through the jungle Indiana Jones-style. 

I’m very happy I did the ATV tour with my friend since I had recently crashed while driving  scooters in Bali , I was a bit timid with ATV driving. 

Then my friend, who is a crazy guy who isn’t nearly as afraid of tipping the ATV over as I am, took over the driving and we were zipping around corners and through deep puddles. 

Our tour guide asked for our phone at the beginning of the tour, and typical of Bali tour guides, he went above and beyond taking photos and videos of us on our tour. 

If you have the budget for it, I recommend booking a private tour so you can get this type of personal attention we had.  The tour went through a jungle track, into tunnels, through foot-deep puddles, and under natural waterfalls –  it was beautiful!

The most fun we had in Bali, Had a wonderful time on the quads here with Kuber. The track is scary but super exciting and a lot of fun to try and manoeuvre. Our bikes had bald tires which gets a little challenging when trying to get over muddy rocks but it just added to the fun. We went through a waterfall and through rice fields and then too the jungle where the fun happens. Just wait until the steep downhill decent where you have to but you against each other to try and get down…so much fun (our breaks worked perfectly)!

My friend and I participated in the ATV ride in June 2018 with Ozzy Bali Adventure. Not being a confident rider I was extremely nervous getting on the ATV but was reassured by the team that I would be able to ride solo. The team was excellent and helped me overcome my fear of riding solo and made sure that I was able to ride the entire time on my own. My friend (a much experienced rider) equally enjoyed the ride and we were both thrilled to be able to experience riding on not only the beach but also through the rice fields, jungle and the local village.

Kuber bali atv provides 2 choices of atv packages that you can choose from. They are single ATV Ride and tandem ATV Ride packages. For an explanation, please see below;

1. Single ATV Ride Package

If you want to try the experience of riding an ATV without a burden on your mind. The single atv ride package is the choice. What is meant by single ride is a quad bike tour, one bike one person ( only rider ). Single ATV Ride will give you satisfaction without thinking about your passengers.

With this single ride, you can feel more free to explore according to the skills you have. But for beginners, you don’t need to worry because we will provide a guide to ride an ATV quad bike and give a test drive before getting off the track.

2. Tandem ATV Ride Package

If you are in doubt and are afraid to ride an ATV alone, you can choose the Tandem ATV Ride package. Tandem Ride means one Quad Bike with one rider and one passenger (2 people in total in one quad bike).

This package is usually done in pairs or children under 10 years who will be passengers. With Tandem Ride you don’t have to be disappointed because in the middle of an adventurous journey you can change positions. Passengers become drivers or vice versa. Especially for adult participants, not for children under 10 years old.

Before you join this ATV in Kuber Adventure, you need to know how to ride an ATV in Bali before you join it for your adventure is more fun. Below are some tips for Riding ATVs in Bali for beginners, let’s check!

1. Use Safety Equipment

Before this ATV Ride adventure you are required to use safety equipment such as helmets and boots. But you don’t need to bring it from home… All the equipment has been prepared by the ATV tour service provider in Bali. And this is included in the ATV Tour Package in Bali

This helmet is quite efficient in protecting our heads from impact when we fall on the ATV. While the boots will be able to protect your feet from the heat of the ATV engine.

2. Know the basic techniques of driving an ATV

The technique of riding an ATV is actually not much different from that of a motorcycle. The difference is only in the gas operation step and the gear shift between forward and reverse.

Gas operation on the ATV is done by pressing the button on the left handlebar. While the operation of gas on a motorcycle is on the handlebars in the right hand.
