Your Segway Guides

Learn to ride the Segway Personal Trainer (PT) and join our edu-taining guides on our tours through beautiful city of Richmond! Call 804-343-1850 or Book Online Now.

Our Segway PT guides are among the most knowledgeable in and about the city and are very good at combining stories around the rich history of Richmond with humor and wit.

Q: What is the age requirement? A: You must be 14 years old to ride a Segway PT. Anyone 18 and under must have a guardian present to sign the waiver. There is no maximum age; we’ve had a 101-year-old ride a Segway PT with us!

Q: I am pregnant, can I take a tour? A: Since there is a possibility of falling, we do not allow pregnant women to ride on the Segway tours, as the risk is just too great.

Q: Where do we meet? A: For most of the tours you will meet us at our shop, which can be found at 1301 E. Cary St. For Hollywood Cemetery, you will meet at an alternative location.

• Hollywood Cemetery- Enter the cemetery from Cherry St. Pass the chapel, go down the hill, and take a right, and then take the next right. You’ll park and meet your guide inside the little circle.

Q: Is there parking? A: We don’t have our own lot but there are a number of parking garages around us. Please allow at least 10-15 minutes to find parking and make it back to the store for check-in. One garage is at 12th St. across from the Omni Hotel, one on Virginia Street just off of Cary St., and another at the intersection 14th St. and Cary St. (If your vehicle is too tall for a garage there is a parking lot across from Main Street Station.) We do not recommend street parking during the week, as it is 2-hour parking and counting check in time and the tour, your parking time will exceed 2 hours. On the weekends you can park on the street without worrying about the 2 hour limit.

Q: What time do we need to get there? A: Please arrive at least 30 minutes before your tour’s start time. This will allow time to check in, pay, and fill out our waiver. There is also training before the tour, the earlier you get here the more time can be devoted to the tour rather than training.

Q: Do we need helmets? A: Everyone must wear a helmet. We provide helmets for everyone, which is included in your tour price. You’re also welcome to bring and wear your own.

Q: What if it’s raining? A: Our Segways and guides can handle the rain. We will not cancel the tours on our end because of rain. However, if there is thunder or lightning the tour will have to be canceled.

Q: I’ve heard the inventor of the Segway PT died on a Segway PT. Is this true? A: The inventor of the Segway PT, Dean Kamen, is alive and well. However, the man who eventually bought the company, Jim Heselden, did unfortunately die in a Segway PT accident.

Q: What should I wear? A: Closed toed shoes, comfortable shoes are highly recommended. Richmond, Virginia weather can be a bit unpredictable so be sure to check the weather forecast. In the Spring and Fall layers are recommended. Don’t forget your sunscreen and sunglasses!

Q: Are tips included in the price?/Do we tip the guide? A: Tips are not included in the price of the ticket. They are not required or expected but certainly appreciated if you enjoyed the tour.

"So much fun, so easy to use! I was apprehensive about managing one of these as I have no sense of balance but I was so surprised. We did the one hour micro tour and it began with a lesson on how to use them, how to balance and steer etc. We had a safety lesson and a practice and then we were ready for the off. There is a little bag on the front to pop you valuables in. We saw some cool graffiti art down by the canal and then went over to Browns Island. We were able to go full speed here as it was fairly quiet - 13mph - but it was such fun. We also took in the Capitol Building and Governors Mansion on the tour. Our guide was really nice and chatty. I cannot wait to book a longer trip. My godson had an awesome time. The office on East Cary is easy to find and there is plenty of parking nearby. The Trolley Tour also goes from here. "

"Riding the Segway was surprisingly easy I am a middle-aged, rather dimwitted and un-coordinated person recovering from a broken hip, and, after a few precarious moments, I had no trouble. The training, done in an adjacent alley, was fast but fairly thorough. One over-confident lady had a small spill, but otherwise everyone in the group seemed to master the Segway quickly. Our guide Jonathan was very nice and knowledgeable. He was friendly and kind, but he also focused on safety. I enjoyed his anecdotes and historical information. The tour itself was really good. For those unfamiliar, a Segway tour involves following a guide as you roll through parks, neighborhoods, waterfronts and other sights on these cool two-wheeled vehicles.

Tours are typically 1.5 to 3 hours and offered in most major tourist destinations. Popular spots include:

Segways allow you to cover more ground than walking, while learning from an informative guide. My tours stop frequently for photos and commentary about landmarks.

It‘s a peaceful way to experience a new place and great for families or groups. Now let‘s get into everything you need to know before booking your tour!

Should You Tip Your Segway Tour Guide?

One of the most common questions I get is whether tipping your guide is expected. The answer is yes!

As with any tour guide, hairstylist, or food delivery driver, tipping 15-20% of the total tour cost per person is customary .

For example, on my $50 San Francisco tour, I recommend $8-$10 per rider as a tip.

Factors to consider when deciding how much to tip include:

• Length of tour – For tours over 2 hours, tip toward 20%
• Group size – On a private tour, tip at the higher end
• Service quality – Excellent guides deserve extra gratitude!

I recommend tipping your guide in cash rather than on a card for privacy. Hand it discreetly upon conclusion and thank them for a great time!

What You Should NOT Do On a Segway Tour

While Segway riding is very safe, tour companies prohibit certain behaviors:

🚫 No carrying passengers or bags on your Segway

🚫 No horseplay, racing, or stunts

🚫 No drinking alcohol before or during tours

🚫 No headphones or phone use while riding

🚫 No riding over curbs, stairs, or obstacles

Is there an age minimum or maximum?

Can two people ride one Segway?

Sharing it with friends and family at home? Well, now you can. HD Video cameras are now available for rent so you can record your tour experience! Then share the fun by posting it to the internet or viewing it on your tv, or mobile device. The HD Video camcorder records 1080p video of your tour to a 8 GB SD Card that you get to take home with you. Choose from a helmet top or side mount, or it can be mounted to the Segway. Seasonal: Spring Grove Cemetary & Gardens

The Garage OTR – Home of Segway of Cincinnati & Spring Grove Cemetery are again teaming up to provide a unique experience touring beautiful and historic Spring Grove Cemetery and Botanical Gardens. We offer two unique experiences; a self guided ride on a Segway PT or a guided tour on a Segway PT.

Spring Grove Cemetery Guided Segway Tour

Returning Summer 2022

Any available Segway PTs not reserved for the guided tour will be available for rental will be available each week for rental as well.

The Garage OTR staff will provide 15-20 minutes of training on-site before the 90 minute glide of the cemetery grounds. Members of The Garage OTR Staff will accompany your group past highlights of the cemetery grounds.

Our newly revised route will share interesting facts about significant Cincinnati residents, notable monuments & memorials, as well as the past and future of the cemetery and botanical gardens.

Helmets are provided (you can also bring your own). Reservations are required. This tour is limited and fills up quickly.

Our Eden Park route is our original route and includes fourteen points of interest throughout the park. Amongst others, riders get to enjoy gliding past Mirror Lake and Krohn Conservatory; under and over the Melan Arch bridge; and through Liberty Gardens and Memorial Groves.

Take in the beautiful views of the Ohio River and Northern Kentucky from Twin Lakes and the Donald A. Spencer Overlooks.

Your guide will cover the history of the park, including the Water Works Pumping Building, Water Tower and Reservoir systems.

Lights of the City Tour

Friday-Sunday @ 8pm-10pm or 9 pm-11pm (dependent on seasonal sunset times)

For those looking for a Segway experience like none we’ve offered before, you’ll love our   Lights   of the City tour. This tour is an 8 mile evening pleasure cruise, ideal for the more adventurous types.

We attach high-visibility   lights   to guide your way under the stars and navigate you through several points of interest in downtown Cincinnati and historic Over-The-Rhine. Then we make our way across the Purple People Bridge into Covington, Kentucky. Once across the sparkling Ohio River, you’ll have the opportunity to photograph the Cincinnati in all its jeweled glory before heading back to Ohio over the Roebling Suspension Bridge.

Whether you’ve done our other fantastic tours and are looking for a new, fun experience, or you’re just a night owl looking for an adventure, the   Lights   of the City tour is for you.

Downtown Tour

Available 1st and 3rd Sundays @ 8am or 9am, and 2nd and 4th Wednesdays @ 6pm:

Our Cincinnati’s Center City route focuses on Cincinnati’s growth from an early pioneer and settlers town to a modern day city. We navigate the cities streets and sidewalks from 2nd to 14th streets and from east to west.

Enjoy gliding the stadium and central business districts, as well as the shopping districts downtown, and in the redeveloped Gateway Quarter and Over The Rhine. Learn about Cincinnati’s canal system, the newly rebranded casino, and the reborn downtown streetcar, the Cincinnati Bell Connector.

On this tour, riders get a survey of Cincinnati’s Center City neighborhoods, such as The Banks, Downtown, Over-The-Rhine and Pendleton.

Discover some past and learn more about the present changes. Highlights include the stadiums, the Central Business District, Fountain Square, Carew Tower and the Contemporary Art Center; just to name a few. Book early for this unique experience with local historian Chris Smith.

Riverfront Tour

Available most days, 7 days a week:

This route is a highlight of Cincinnati’s beautiful Riverfront. Riders glide through the Central Business District from our showroom; using Eggleston Blvd as a connector to Sawyer Point.

Your guide will glide you through Bi-Cenntennial Commons at Sawyer Point; historic Yeatman’s Cove featuring the Serpentine Wall; and the stunning Theodore M. Berry International Friendship Park with all its glorious sculpture.

The glide is capped with a ride across the mighty Ohio River on the Purple People Bridge into Northern Kentucky and back!

Our Riverfront, Lights of the City, Downtown, Art of Cincinnati and Holiday Tours – meet and depart from the West Concession Stand in Yeatman’s Cove along Mehring Way, on the Riverfront.  Parking options include the adjacent Public Landing, or across the street parking garage.  Please refer to your confirmation email for more info.

Seasonal: Holiday Glide with Segway Santa

The Garage OTR – Home of Segway of Cincinnati  is happy to announce a continued holiday tradition… Enjoy the sights of the season on this special Holiday Glide. Dazzle at the seasonal light displays glistening at Washington Park, Music Hall, and throughout OTR and downtown.

We will glide to see the tree at Union Terminal and explore the Longworth Betts Historic District.  Travel under City Hall, pausing at churches and temples on our way to view the holiday display at the Omni Netherland, and to Fountain Square for what will surely make a wonderful holiday greeting card; a special Segway Santa picture in front of Cincinnati’s Christmas Tree!  

Reflect on the last leg of the glide at Sherith Israel Temple, the oldest existing synagogue west of the Allegheny Mountains.

Specialty: Art of Cincinnati Tour

Our newest tour route is a joyful figure 8 that stretches from east to west of downtown.  The Art of Cincinnati Tour highlights popular art galleries, museums, and public squares, but also casts light on hidden gems as well; art tiles in traffic, public folk art under bridges, and “ghost signs” in plain sight.

Who can participate in a Segway PT tour?

The State of Ohio requires that riders be at least 14 years of age to take a Segway PT tour. A rider that is 14-17 years of age must have a parent/guardian signature to take a tour.

• The rider must be between 100 and 260 lbs. (45 to 117 kg.)
• The rider must be able to step on and off the Segway PT without assistance, which requires physical abilities similar to climbing and descending stairs without the support of a handrail or other walking aid.

On-street metered parking is available.  Hours Of Enforcement in Downtown & Over-the-Rhine are  9 a.m. to 9 p.m.   Monday  through  Saturday , and  2 p.m. to 9 p.m.   Sunday . Rates are posted on each meter and vary by location, so please check the meter.

We are not responsible for expired parking meters and/or parking violations.

WEATHER CANCELLATION POLICY:

WE   reserve the right to cancel the tour if we deem necessary due to weather conditions no later than one hour before departure on cell # provided at time of reservation.  

• If you need additional time for travel etc. please contact reservation staff
• We make every effort to get all Tours out and are constantly checking multiple weather forecasts and radar images to make the best decision  WE  feel possible. Again, we want you, our guest, to enjoy yourself on the adventure as much as possible while keeping  SAFETY our #1 Priority!

CANCELLATION POLICY:

Cancellations must be called in to our office at (513)225-1583,  email cancellations are not accepted.

• You have until 48 hours before your scheduled tour time to cancel or reschedule for any reason.
• After this time you are committed to the tour and will be charged full price of the tour for each individual not in attendance on the credit card used to hold the reservation.
• If gift certificates, or vouchers are used to hold the reservation they will lose half of their value.

Our electric bikes feature chunky 26 x 4.9 inch tires that combine with the front fork suspension to create a soft ride allowing you float down the road. 17.5” one size fits most frame with 36V 12.8 Ah lithium-ion battery and 350W motor weighing in at a total of 55 lbs. All of our bikes have an LCD screen for five speed electronic pedal assist allowing you to pedal as hard or as easy as you like!

Our Segway i2 will have you gliding around San Diego and La Jolla feeling like a kid! Our tours have all different terrain from hills to flat wide walkways. Routes have be created to avoid crowds while still taking you to all the places you want to see in San Diego.

• Yes! For only an extra $20, you can take any of our Segway tours, even if the difference between $149 and your voucher-value is much greater. We want to be able to share our tours with everyone and still share great deals.
• Flat (no rocking shape-ups) shoes you’re comfortable in for duration of tour work great! Flip-flops, sandals, running shoes are all good
• Price of tour does not include a tip; sharing tours is a service business and our guides very much appreciate gratuity, thanks!
• We provide a bottle of water, and definitely recommend bringing a warm layer. It might get chilly in the shade and we’ll be rolling pretty quick at 12mph

    1 Hour Scenic Segway Tour : goes approximately 5 miles along the beautiful waterfront and endless parks. You will be viewing a variety of museums, yacht basins and restaurants while taking in the natural beauty of plants and animals. We will pass through the Gizella Kopsick Palm Arboretum which has been there since 1976 and view over 500 different species of palm trees in this 2 acre park. We are always on the look out for dolphins, manatees and other wildlife! 

$50 per person  

         2 Hour Historic Segway Tour : goes approximately 8 miles total.  First going 3 miles into the city and then 5 miles along the waterfront and beautiful endless parks. We will take a short break at the Salvador Dali Museum and have a sip of water from the Fountain of Youth. You will learn all about the city's founding fathers and famous pilots which lead to the 1920s boom which can be seen in some of our architecture.  After your Segway Tour you will get to go into the Museum of History and look around at your own pace (admission included). You will be able to see the Worlds Largest Autographed baseball collection with 5,036, indexed city photographs, 32,000 artifacts and other historic photos and documents. This tour tends to be out most popular choice because of all the historical information you will get about our city!

           2.5 Hour Eco Segway Tour : goes approximately 12 miles total though the parks and along the waterfront and then we will Segway through 1920s Old Northeast neighborhood as we head to Sunken Gardens (admission included). Where we will park the Segways and then walk through 4 acres of a lush botanical garden. You will see 20 Chilean Flamingos, parrots, macaws, tortoises and feed the Koi fish. Your tour guide will be pointing out all the flora and fauna along the way. Sunken Gardens is the oldest living museum, 100 years old and offers more than 50,000 tropical plants and flowers. 

So you will be on the Segway approximately 2 hours and walking in the garden for about 30 minutes.

PRESERVE BIKE TOUR

If the fast pace of the Downtown area is not for you and prefer a natural oasis in the middle of this growing city away from cars and traffic.  Then this tour is for you. Surrounded by Florida's native flora amd fauna. You will be guided by a knowledgeable and experienced tour guide on mountain bikes through 3 miles of trails and boardwalks while seeing 5 ecosystems! You will enjoy 245 acres of uninterrupted preserved habitat along Lake Maggiore's shore line. There is an aviary with live birds of prey ranging from the Bald Eagle, Red Tailed Hawk, Red Shoulder Hawk, Screech Owls, Barred Owls, Northern Crested Caracara and many more! You will also being seeing American Alligators, tortoises, turtles, Ospreys, Cormorants, Anhingas, and a vast variety of butterflies. After the bike tour take some time and explore the education center.

Enjoy 2 hours of paddle boarding in beautiful Coffee Pot Bayou. You will be seeing our local wildlife as you float along side a historic neighborhood set in 1920s and enjoy the vast array of architecture of homes set in this tranquil bayou. We will be seeing Bird Island up close and enjoy watching and listening to 30 different species of birds. We will also be looking for dolphins and manatees since they are frequently seen.

On the Paddle Board Tour you will have:

10'6" soft top paddle board

MUST be at least 13 years old

   MUST weigh less than 270 lbs

Safety Information

All Segway riders must wear a helmet and closed-toed shoes at all times. Riders must be at least 16 years of age. Rides under the age of 18 require written parental consent. Segway tours are not appropriate for those with injuries, those under the influence of alcohol, or those who are pregnant. Riders must weigh between 100 – 260 lbs. Closed toe shoes must be worn at all times, and flip flops and heels are not permitted.

Finally, a perfect use for a Segway: Mowing your lawn

Segway, the maker of the dorkiest way to get around while taking a city tour on vacation, wants to mow your lawn for you.

The company is out with the Navimow i series, an AI-assisted, Roomba-like lawnmower that promises to free up Saturday mornings in the suburbs with features that are missing in some other automated mowers, and at a lower price point, too.

Where some other brands’ automated mowers require perimeter wires that have to be buried underground around a property to mark off a work area, Segway’s mower uses virtual boundaries that can be edited on a smartphone.

Users can map out multiple zones on a property and schedule different mow times for each one. And the VisionFence-off Zone feature allows users to mark off things like sidewalks, stone paths, and drain covers that they want the mower to pass over without classifying them as obstacles, enabling it to get from one side of a property to another.

While much of the experience is controlled via smartphone, the Navimow is pretty smart and figures out quite a bit on its own. Its AI-powered assist mapping feature identifies lawn edges, and the company says the mower can map its work area and figure out the most efficient cutting route to “ensure an evenly cut lawn and prevent missed cuts.”

The mower’s visual detection feature allows it to avoid obstacles, something that’s more crucial for a machine that cuts grass with blades than an indoor automated vacuum cleaner. (In a promotional video, Segway previews the tech by showing the mower avoiding a teddy bear and a sleeping child on a blanket.) The mower’s 140-degree field-of-view camera uses an AI algorithm to detect more than 20 common objects.

Segway entered the automated lawnmower market in 2021 with a GPS-powered machine, but the cost of its latest model is significantly cheaper, starting at $999.

Neil Diamond has announced that “A Beautiful Noise” is coming to an end on Broadway.

The Broadway musical, which has been running since November 2022 at the Broadhurst Theatre in New York City, will now close on June 30 .

At the time of the musical’s closing, it will have played 657 regular performances and 35 previews.

“A Beautiful Noise” depicts two versions of Neil Diamond: a younger version rising through the music industry and an older one reflecting on his life with help from his therapist.

American Idol 2015 winner Nick Fradiani plays younger Diamond while original cast member Mark Jacobi plays the older version of the star.

If you want to see “A Beautiful Noise” before the curtain closes one final time, tickets are available on StubHub , Vivid Seats , TicketCity , SeatGeek and Ticketmaster .
