12 Must-See Live Cruise Webcams

Sitting at your desk, wishing you were on your cruise already? Or maybe you just need a little “Vitamin Sea” to get you through your day. While nothing would compare to actually being on a cruise, technology has made it easier to get your fix.

These days there are hundreds of cruise cameras. From port cams that show the ships docked in wait for passengers to live webcams from the ship at sea, there is no shortage of neat views to help you daydream about being on your vacation.

We’ve rounded up some of the best from around the web to bring them to you all in one place.

Galveston Webcam

The tourist mecca of Galveston has become the busiest cruise port outside of Florida. There are webcams all over the island, including several pointed at the port. Here you can see great views of the ships come in and dock before taking thousands of cruise passengers on their trip. Click here for the webcam .

Mahogany Bay Webcam

Mahogany Bay is where Carnival ships dock when they visit Roatan, Honduras. The port area has been built up for tourists, including a number of shops and a little village for you to spend your dollars. This webcam sits in the middle of the village with a great view of the ships in port.  Click here for the webcam .

New Orleans Cruise Webcam

This camera looks right now the port where ships dock when sailing from the Big Easy. The image updates every 60 seconds with a live view of what’s going on at the port. The muddy Mississippi may not look anything like the Caribbean, but it’s the key to getting from New Orleans to points further south.  Click here for the webcam .

Port of Miami Cruise Webcam

Miami is the world’s busiest cruise port. On the weekend days it’s not unusual to see six or more ships docked and waiting for passengers. This webcam high above a nearby building give a perfect view of the port, where you can also see all the way to South Beach on a clear day.  Click here for the webcam .

Cozumel Webcam

If you are going on a cruise, then chances are high that it will make a stop in Cozumel. It’s often that you’ll find multiple ships in port on any given day, making it a prime place to watch while you’re sitting at home. This webcam looks right at the ships docked at the main pier. Cozumel Webcam (Puerta Maya)

Carnival Vista Webcam

Carnival’s gem of the fleet, the Vista is already one of the favorites among cruisers, despite being relatively new. If you have “Vista fever” then you can check out this webcam from the bridge of the ship. Port Canaveral Webcam

Port Canaveral is situated about 45 minutes due east of Orlando in the center of Florida’s Atlantic Coast. It’s become a busy cruise port, with ships homeported there and others making stops so that passengers can visit Disney World, located about an hour away. Port Everglades Webcam

While Miami might be known for cruising, Port Everglades in nearby Fort Lauderdale sees nearly the same number of passengers each year. It also sees the biggest cruise ships in the world sail from its port. Allure of the Seas Webcam

Not every webcam is of a port. Most cruise ships these days are also equipped with cameras that beam back images from wherever they are in the world. For Allure of the Seas, there are actually four different webcams around the ship that show you what’s going on in real-time. Port of Tampa Webcam

Tampa may not get the publicity of larger ports in Florida, but the western Florida port sees a lot of traffic. Several cruise lines including Carnival and Norwegian sail from the port, located right near downtown. Carnival freedom returns to cruising within 2 weeks of funnel fire, passengers aboard burning cruise not expected to see refund.

PORT CANAVERAL, Fla. – Less than two weeks since a cruise ship caught on fire, the Carnival Freedom returned to sailing Thursday.

On March 23 in the Bahamas, passengers took video of the ship’s funnel burning after it was believed to have been struck by lightning.

It was the second time in two years that the ship’s funnel caught fire.

Like the May 2022 fire, Carnival will also have to replace its signature ‘whale tail’ at the top of the funnel, which was burned again.

Thursday, passengers talked to News 6 reporter James Sparvero about boarding the ship for its first cruise to the Bahamas since the fire.

Cornelia Marshall was traveling with friends from Birmingham, Alabama.

“We put it in God’s hands,” she said. “I mean, that was an act of mother nature. There’s nothing you can do about it.”

Thursday, Carnival said it was still investigating a possible lightning strike as the cause of the fire.

Marshall and her friends also weren’t concerned about the ship catching on fire two years earlier.

“You know, when life gives you lemons, just take tequila shots because we’re coming on the cruise,” Marshall said.

Another group of passengers said they were unhappy that Carnival didn’t tell them about the March 23 incident.

Kelin Sorto from Philadelphia said she found out there was a fire from her Uber driver, who brought her family to the port.

“That’s my only concern because how fast can they fix that problem?” she said. “They assured us that it’s secure. Hopefully, it is. We’re just trying to have fun.”

Carnival refunded passengers for the two canceled cruises, but if you were on the cruise that caught on fire and you’re still expecting a refund, you won’t be getting one.

A statement from Carnival reads, “We’re very proud of the Carnival Freedom team for keeping everyone safe and still delivering a full cruise to the guests who were on board. We appreciate our guests for their cooperation and support.”

Carnival cancels 2 planned cruises from Port Canaveral after ship catches fire

Passengers on a Carnival cruise ship that caught fire over the weekend disembarked at Port Canaveral on Monday.

Videos sent to Ch. 9 show dark smoke and flames coming from the Carnival Freedom’s exhaust funnel on Saturday.

Carnival says lightning may be to blame.

In response to this fire, the next two cruises on the ship have been canceled.

The ship was scheduled to depart from Port Canaveral on Monday, and then again on Friday.

The fire was reported while the ship was near the Bahamas.

Passengers reported seeing lightning strike the boat, but the investigation is still underway.

Carnival Cruise Lines released the following statement:

Carnival Freedom experienced a fire in the port side of the exhaust funnel on Saturday. Our onboard team acted quickly to contain and put out the fire. While we continue to investigate multiple eyewitness reports of a lightning strike, our technical team completed a thorough assessment during the ship’s visit to Freeport today. Regrettably, the damage is more than we first thought and will require an immediate repair to stabilize the funnel, resulting in the cancellation of the March 25 and March 29 cruises from Port Canaveral.

The funnel has been stabilized for the ship’s return to Port Canaveral overnight to disembark guests, and then it will go to the Freeport shipyard on Monday afternoon to begin the required repairs.

We sincerely regret the impact to our embarking guests, as we know they have been looking forward to their spring break vacation. We are providing all guests on both cancelled cruises a full refund and a 100% future cruise credit so they can come back and enjoy a future cruise with us. We also greatly appreciate the terrific guests who are currently sailing with us, for their outstanding cooperation and support.

‘Just terrified’: Passengers from cruise ship that caught fire say more needs to be done

ORLANDO, Fla. — Cruise passengers on board the Carnival Freedom that caught fire last month are demanding more from the cruise line.  One family, that believes they are owed a new vacation, turned to Action 9 after they say Carnival offered them counseling instead.

Cell phone videos are all over social media showing flames and black smoke billowing from the exhaust funnel of the Carnival Freedom.  The cruise ship caught fire off the coast of the Bahamas in March. For passengers like Gemma Phillips, the entire cruise experience changed after the fire sparked.

“I mean there was a lot of people that were absolutely just terrified,” Phillips told Action 9′s Jeff Deal.

Gemma claims parts of the ship were closed off to her and family.  And says many of the amenities, including bars and a buffet area were no longer available for long periods of time.

Phillips said, “They were giving explicit instructions on the loudspeaker for nobody to go to any of the outdoor decks or go on to their balconies.”

Scorched pieces of the exhaust funnel landed on their balcony as they were huddled down in their cabin listening for instructions.

“Pretty much the entire back of the ship was closed off. So, that included the adults only pool, the pizza place, the seafood place,” she said.

This was the second fire for the Carnival Freedom since 2022.  The 2022 fire also included flames shooting from the funnel.

After returning to Port Canaveral, passengers on board for the latest fire learned the next two sailings were cancelled.  And Phillips noted passengers on those trips were offered refunds, travel reimbursements and future cruise credits.

But for those onboard during this most recent fire, they were offered reimbursement for up to three counseling sessions, not to exceed $200.   Gemma Phillips said she doesn’t want counseling.

“I think it is tone deaf. I think it is an insult to all of us,” she added.

She’s an avid cruiser who has been on ten Carnival cruises since the pandemic and wants the experience she’s used to having. Phillips believes money back or future cruise credit is what Carnival should offer.

“My husband and I, we love Carnival just because of the people, the vibe… you know, we’re night owls.”

And she’s not alone, there’s a Facebook group with nearly 300 cruisers who have been sharing their grievances.

Travel Expert Tammy Levent, who heads Elite Travel Management Group, says maritime laws offer little in the way of consumer protections, but believes Carnival is handing this situation all wrong.

“It’s unfortunate because that’s not the way the business should be thinking.  They should be thinking the complete opposite way of fulfilling and seeing what they could do for the customer to come back,” Levent said.

A Carnival spokesman sent this statement:

We’re very proud of our team members who kept everyone on board safe, and we appreciate our guests for their cooperation and support. We’re investigating multiple eyewitness accounts of a lightning strike. There was also heavy rain and lightning at the time the fire happened, and we always advise guests to stay indoors during storms. Any venues that were temporarily closed because of the thunderstorm, or from the brief cleanup after the fire was extinguished, were reopened by the early evening. The ship went on to host its elegant night, which was well attended by many guests. Carnival Freedom is back sailing, currently in the Bahamas, after work on the funnel was completed earlier this week.

But the company’s response now has Gemma Phillips questioning her loyalty and wondering if Carnival values customers like her.

“Why are we just being dismissed? Like, why aren’t they doing anything for us? And we’re the ones that experienced it,” she said.

Carnival hasn’t said what caused the fire yet.  Anyone who has a dispute involving a cruise that leaves from a U.S. port can file a complaint with the Federal Maritime Commission:  Cruise Passenger Assistance - Federal Maritime Commission (fmc.gov)

Mom left kids home alone for several days while she went on a cruise, deputies say

HOUSTON (Gray News) - A 29-year-old mother allegedly left her kids home alone for several days while she went on a cruise to Puerto Rico, according to Texas authorities.

Harris County deputies said Lakesha Woods Williams left her high-rise apartment on April 4 to catch a flight to Miami. However, she didn’t return until days later, KTRK reported.

On Tuesday, deputies responded to a welfare check at her apartment, where they found her 8-year-old son and 6-year-old daughter home alone.

Deputies said the apartment smelled of urine and had trash and leftover food thrown everywhere.

The children eventually told deputies that their mother left for a trip. While on vacation, the children said she would use a web camera and cell phone to check in on them.

KTRK reported that Williams returned home Wednesday night and initially lied about her identity.

Officials determined the children were healthy, and Child Protective Services released them to their aunt.

Williams was charged with abandoning a child with intent to return.
