The last thing you want when traveling is an uncomfortable child. Sure, you already know to have snacks , books , electronic gadgets and toys to keep your kids fed and occupied. But did you pack a travel pillow for them? Being forced to keep their head in a position for too long, or falling asleep in cramped conditions, can lead to cranky and exhausted kids (and cranky parents). Whether you’re traveling by car, bus, train or plane, these are the best travel pillows for kids .

1. Trunki Yondi Kid’s Travel Neck Pillow

Younger kids, in particular, need support when riding in a vehicle on long journeys. The Trunki Yondi Kid’s Travel Neck Pillow  is recommended for children who are approximately 18 months to 5 years old. There’s a variety of animal characters from which to choose: a cat, alligator, monkey, fox and lion. Hidden magnets inside the animal’s paws come together under the child’s chin. They form a 360-degree cushion, providing full head and neck protection, regardless of how your little one lays. The plush fabric and microbead filling make it even better. This travel pillow for kids has a removable and machine washable velvet cover. It works for any mode of transportation. You can even use it with your child’s car seat , booster seat or stroller .

2. Trtl Pillow Junior

The Trtl Pillow has been one of the bestselling travel pillows for adults for years. Now, the kid-sized version, the Trtl Pillow Junior  is just as popular, for good reason. The manufacturers worked with elementary and middle school students to design the pillow. So it’s comfortable and sized just right for children ages 8 and up. Worn like a scarf , the Trtl Pillow Junior has hidden, flexible rib supports within foam cushioning. This ensures your child’s head and neck are positioned correctly while she’s sleeping, watching TV, playing video games or relaxing. Kids can wear the pillow to the front or either side. Also, this travel pillow is easy for kids to put on and take off and it weighs less than a pound (and packs flat for lightweight travel in a carry-on bag ). Another benefit is that its hypoallergenic fleece material is super-soft and cozy for little travelers.

3. Critter Piller Kid’s Travel Buddy and Comfort Pillow

Your young child will probably go wild for this one. The Critter Piller Kid’s Travel Buddy and Comfort Pillow  comes in many different animal designs, including a dog, cat, alligator, panda and more. It does double duty: protects your child’s neck and acts as a comfort pal. This is one of the best travel pillows for kids who get anxious on airplanes or long trips. Designed for kids ages 3 and up, the Critter Piller has a microfiber filling and looks and feels like a soft toy . So, your child can use it while sleeping or cuddle up with it at other times. And since kids are likely to spill food, drinks, or something else (think saliva, snot or worse), the whole pillow is machine washable.

4. BCOZZY Kids Chin Supporting Travel Pillow

You know how your kid’s head sometimes snaps forward when he dozes off? The BCOZZY Kids Chin Supporting Travel Pillow  can put a stop to that. Rather than a U-shape, it has overlapping arms that prevent a child’s head from dropping forward or sideways. Even with so much support, the pillow isn’t overbearing. While wearing it, kids can still use over-the-air headphones comfortably. The BCOZZY Kids Travel Pillow is available in a wide variety of colors and recommended for kids ages 3 to 8. It’s also fully machine washable and has a snap strap to attach the pillow to luggage .

5. Dot&Dot Twist Memory Foam Travel Pillow

The Dot&Dot Twist Memory Foam Travel Pillow  is probably the best travel pillow for kids who sleep wildly. If your child goes from having her head to the left one minute, then to the right, before finally slumping against the armrest or window of the car or plane, this is a good pick. The versatile pillow can twist to whatever position is comfortable for your sleeping beauty. Doesn’t matter if that’s the traditional U-shape, straightened a little or a lot, or curved like a snake. The Twist has a snap closure that keeps the pillow from falling off. It also attaches to carry-on luggage or a backpack . The cover of the pillow can be removed and machine washed. Since this pillow is long and can contort into different positions, it’s probably better for older kids who are at least age 8.

6. AirComfy Daydreamer Push-Button Inflatable Pillow

If you’re trying to stay away from any pillow that requires you or your child to huff and puff to blow it up, try the AirComfy Daydreamer Push-Button Inflatable Pillow . It’s designed so you don’t have to use your mouth to fill it with air. Simply open the air valve cover, press the “push button” repeatedly until the pillow inflates, and then close the air valve. It only takes 30 to 60 seconds for the pillow to be ready. The Daydreamer has contoured and adjustable neck support. Whether your child prefers soft, firm or somewhere in between, this pillow can accommodate his or her wishes. You can even adjust the inflation while you’re wearing it. Once the ride is over, the pillow deflates quickly and fits in a small, included carrying case. It has a carabiner clip to attach it to a carry-on bag . Even cleaning the pillow is easy. It’s inside a velvet pillowcase, so all you have to do is remove the cover and toss it in the wash.

7. Nido Nest Kids Travel Neck Car Pillow

Memory foam or air can sometimes be too firm for a child’s neck. The Nido Nest Kids Travel Neck Car Pillow  is a more flexible option. It has a microbead filling, so it’s soft and conforms to the neck. The exterior fabric is breathable and won’t cause your child to get hot and sweaty. A snap closure helps keep it in place during slumber and also allows for attaching it to a suitcase , bag or purse . Although “car pillow” is in its name, the Nido Nest Pillow is great for all modes of travel. It’s for kids ages 3 to 10 and comes in a variety of animal designs, including a bumblebee, ladybug, frog, owl and pig. The cover is removable and washable.

8. HoodiePillow

Have a teen who won’t go anywhere without his hoodie ? The HoodiePillow  is the best travel pillow for kids and teens who want the best of both worlds. It has a memory foam pillow to support the neck and a hood made of the same material as their favorite hoodie. The hooded part of the pillow has two drawstrings so your child can adjust the hood to his head size and comfort level. It’s perfect for tweens and teens who want privacy. For families looking to pack light, there’s an Inflatable Travel HoodiePillow . It deflates easily and folds flat, taking up very little space in your kid’s bag . Both the memory foam and inflatable versions come in a variety of colors. That means your teen can get one to match his real hoodie !

9. Travelrest Ultimate Travel Pillow

If your kid isn’t too keen on having anything around her neck, the Travelrest Ultimate Travel Pillow  may be a good choice. It inflates with only a few puffs and then loops over the headrest of a car or the “wings” of an airplane seat. It can even be worn like a messenger bag . Positioned either across the torso or down the side, the pillow will keep your child’s head from falling forward. When no longer needed, it deflates almost instantly and can be rolled up so that it doesn’t take up much space. This travel pillow is for kids ages 8 and older (and adults). The only possible downside is it’s hand-wash only.

10. Wandering Tot Inflatable Foot Rest

Sometimes it’s the kid’s legs that need a little support. Long rides can cause legs to feel cramped or fall asleep. The Wandering Tot Inflatable Foot Rest  allows youngsters to stretch out their legs a bit. It weighs only one pound and inflates in 90 seconds, so it’s not too much of a hassle to set up. Once inflated, place it on the floor of the car or between your child’s airplane seat and the one in front of him. The foot rest is adjustable to meet your child’s height needs. Just blow it up a little less or a little more. Then, your kiddo can kick up his feet and relax. Once done, take down is also easy. The foot rest deflates in 15 seconds and fits into the included small storage bag. As a bonus, the Wandering Tot comes with an eye mask and earplugs to help make your child as comfy as possible. Some airlines don’t allow leg pillows on the plane, so check beforehand.

1. the shrunks toddler travel bed, best inflatable option, description.

One reviewer said: "We purchased this bed ahead of a week away for use by our 2 year old. The bed is a good size, deep enough so it doesn't feel like they are sleeping on the floor. I like the fact that you can tuck sheets under the mattress part in the middle. Our daughter loved the bed and slept a dream on it."

One reviewer said: "I bought this for my granddaughter's afternoon nap during visits. She loves the animal pattern and easy wrap over cover. This keeps her warm but doesn't restrict movement as a sleeping bag style would. The size is ideal for her to snuggle into and the small raised pillow supports her head and neck well."

  • Soft cotton blend
  • Simple Velcro fastening
  • Not very thick

3. Bed in a Bag

Best for comfort.

www.gltc.co.uk

One reviewer said: “I bought this bed a month ago for a family holiday. It was easy to inflate and it came with a pump. It looked great and felt like a real mattress. It didn’t deflate through the night and we didn’t need to top up with air for the 3-day stay. A very comfortable sleep no rolling off as the design was made for a toddler. An amazing product really happy with it.”

  • Keep away from furniture as it could pop

6. Butterfly Craze Floor Bed Cover

Best for portability.

Doubling up as a comfy place for your child to lounge, you'll need to stuff this cover with five standard-sized pillows, not included. Made with plush, soft fabric, it's easy to wash - just toss it in the machine and wash on a delicate cycle with cold water. It's roomy enough for adults to use although you'll need to add a blanket.

One reviewer said: "It looks just like it does in the picture but it doesn't come with pillows. I got it for my daughter who has special needs so it's for her room with her sensor lights she absolutely loves it she's not been off it since that came definitely worth the money."

What to look for in a toddler travel bed

Age suitability: Toddler travel beds tend to be designed for two-year-olds and above. Children any younger than this should be in a travel cot instead.

Ease of use : Nobody wants to spend lots of time setting up a bed, especially when you've been travelling with children and it's a long day. Equally, you'll want it to be just as easy to put away again.

Size and weight: As you'll be using it for travel, the more compact and lightweight your chosen toddler travel bed is, the better. Just like a travel stroller , you want it to take up as little room as possible, especially as you'll need to store it year-round too.

Safety: Make sure the travel bed is durable and supportive of their head and neck. On another note, if you're little one is a little escape artist, you may want to bring a travel stair gate with you to keep them safe if they wonder out of bed in the middle of the night.

Comfort: This will of course depend on your child specifically but it's worth trying out the toddler travel bed before you set off. After all, you'll want to avoid complaints during your family holiday .

Where should my toddler sleep on holiday?

Your little one will be comfortable in a travel toddler bed, but if they still fit in a travel cot, and they are comfortable and safe, then it's okay for them to continue using it. Ultimately, you will know where your child is comfortable and safe. If possible, prepare your child for sleeping in a different bed, or cot, before you travel by showing them their new toddler travel bed, or even letting them have a trial night or two at home.

More Ways to Create the Perfect Night's Sleep

How to choose a pillow for kids in the uk - buying guide.

At first, you could be fooled into thinking that pillows - simple looking things that they at times are - are not that complicated. In actuality, their designs are surprisingly intricate and vary a huge amount. So it's worth exploring what's out there, which is exactly what this guide will help you to do.

Help Your Kids to Sleep at Home or on the Go With the Right Kind of Pillow

Different pillows are better suited to different situations. After all the type of pillow you would ideally want for their bed, isn't going to be great for use during long car journeys. To help you find the right one, here's what you need to know.

A Rectangular Pillow Is Best for a Bed or a Cot

Pillows for kids fall into two main types. The first is a standard bed pillow, although even some of these are far from standard. These pillows are designed to be used in a bed or a cot as your child sleeps at night. Most are rectangular, but some will come in more creative shapes, offering different levels of support.

The shape of a pillow will be dictated by a number of factors. While the typical rectangular shape is great for a bed, getting one that's designed for children won't be identical to an adult's. Instead, it should be smaller so as to align their neck in the right way .

Travel Pillows Will Let Them Get Some Rest on the Go

The other option is a travel pillow, used to prop up your child's neck and head so they can have a serene slumber even while on the move. These pillows look dramatically different to bed pillows, but need to be equally comfortable and supportive.

Travel pillows are usually round, with a hole in the middle for your child's head. The surrounding cushioning sits on the shoulders to support their neck. However, even these don't all follow the same simple circular shape, with some having more cushioning in certain areas than others.

Find the Filling That's Right for Your Little One

There is a whole range of materials to choose from when it comes to what's used to pad out your child's pillow. Each has unique properties, and they can feel pretty different when you lie on them, as well as the all important differences in price.

Memory Foam Adapts to Suit Different Sleeping Styles

Memory foam is a hugely popular material when it comes to sleep, and for good reason! It moulds itself to your body and remembers your movements for a more tailored fit. This means your child can find maximum comfort to help promote a restful sleep!

However, it's not the top choice for everyone. It can be more expensive and for some people it takes a while to get used to the feeling.

For a Comforting Texture, Pick Microbeads

A microbead filling, like memory foam, is very malleable and can will adjust to accommodate your child's movements as they sleep. It's also highly breathable , stopping them from overheating at night.

The disadvantage of microbeads is  their synthetic odour - although it should be stressed that it is in no way dangerous! Microbeads also have a shorter lifespan and can flatten over time, which will mean the pillow loses its spring.

Synthetic Down Is the More Affordable Option

Most cheap pillows are filled with synthetic down, making them the budget-friendly option of choice. Synthetic down is hard-wearing so these pillows can often be put in the wash,  which is just what you need when you have lively, messy kids.

They aren't the most breathable option, though, and your kids might feel that this type of pillow is too warm in the summer months .

The Outer Material Needs to Be Comfortable to Lie on

The filling material may be vital in providing the springiness and overall feeling of a pillow, but the outer cover is important too! Even if it's going to go inside a pillowcase, the material the cover is made from still has a part to play in making the pillow as comfortable as possible .

As with synthetic down, pillow covers made from synthetic fabrics are affordable and durable, so can withstand a large amount of wear and tear . But, also like synthetic down, they aren't as breathable as natural fabrics. This lack of ventilation might lead your kids to become uncomfortably hot, which can cause sleep disruption.

While they are more expensive, natural fabrics have many advantages. The creative use of slightly unusual fabrics like bamboo, and more conventional choices like cotton - sometimes in conjunction with a synthetic fabric like polyester - brings qualities like breathability and softness to a pillow.

Ensure That Your New Pillow Fits on the Bed

Children, especially young children, toddlers and babies, tend to have smaller-than-average beds. In some cases, they may still be sleeping in a cot. This means they need a pillow that's smaller than average to ensure it fits perfectly.

Check the measurements of your child's sleeping space  and mattress to see if it matches the dimensions of the pillow you want to buy. The dimensions for a child's pillow vary hugely, but as a guideline, should be smaller than the standard pillow size of 70 x 50 cm.

A Removable Cover Makes Washing Easier

The cover that comes with many rectangular bed pillows doesn't normally act as a pillow case, or in other words, it is not the material which your child will lie on. These covers are used to keep the filling contained  and add another level of protection.

Pillows that come with a removable cover or pillow case give you an easy way of keeping your child's bedding clean . This allows you to refresh the pillow regularly by simply throwing the cover in the wash, something that can't often be done with pillows that don't separate.

If Your Child Suffers From Allergies, a Hypoallergenic Pillow Is the Answer

The build-up of dust can be a nightmare for those who have allergies! Bedding can be a real trigger for allergic reactions , so if your child does struggle, it is worth looking for a pillow that's hypoallergenic.

This just means that they are unlikely to cause an allergic reaction. Often, this is achieved by using materials that are inhospitable to dust mites .

Plus, this pillow has been rigorously tested to make sure it is suitable for young children , so you can rest easy knowing your child will have a safe sleep.

The synthetic fabric might be what gives the pillow its anti-allergy properties, but polyester does share the same problem that these types of fabrics all suffer from - and that's the lack of breathability .

Keababies Toddler Pillow

Toddler Pillow 1

A Pillow That Comes With a Very Cute Case

This pillow comes with a removable case, so it's ready to be used as soon as you get it. The natural cotton used for the outer material will keep your kids' heads cool on hot days , and let's not forget how soft it is!

Although it's made from natural materials , this pillow isn't hypoallergenic, which is something to consider if your child suffers from allergies. This means it's slightly more on the expensive side, too.

Maibar Animal Travel Pillow

Animal Travel Pillow 1

Children Will Love This Clever Animal Design

The simple travel pillow design has been redesigned to look like a sleeping fox, an additional feature that will really draw kids in ! This pillow does more than just look good, though. With its hypoallergenic properties, kids who are sensitive to dust will be able to rest their heads without a problem.

The design of this pillow might have been upgraded in terms of style, but the shape  might not provide the degree of support and comfort that your child needs to sleep whilst travelling.

Slumberdown Little Slumbers Toddler Soft Pillow

Little Slumbers Toddler Soft Pillow 1

A Simple Pillow That Helps With Allergies

This might look like a normal pillow, but it has been specially tailored to children. The fill has been reduced to improve the alignment of the neck, head and back. Furthermore, Little Slumbers take allergies seriously, and have created a product that provides asthma and dust mite protection .

On the downside, this pillow is not made from any natural materials. Whilst polyester is fine for pillows, it can be very hot as it doesn't breathe as well as other fibres.

Trunki Kids Travel Neck Pillow

Kids Travel Neck Pillow 1

A Fun and Bright Pillow for Resting on the Go

Trunki are most famous for their child-friendly suitcases, seen in airports all over the world. Now, you can buy a matching travel pillow to help your child rest whilst going on their adventures. This pillow is held in place round the child's neck with magnets connecting the two ends, and children are sure to love the cute design of an animal's face.

Sadly, this pillow is very basic and  might not offer as much support as other options . The manufacturer also don't specify the materials from which it's made, making life more difficult for those with allergies.

Finding the right pillow is a step in the right direction when it comes to creating the ultimate sleeping experience, but it's not the only thing you can do for your child to help them feel adequately rested. A good bed and some cosy blankets will also aid their sleep, perhaps so soundly asleep they'll need a top-notch alarm clock to wake them up too!

Travel Pillow

Traveling can be exhilarating and exhausting (often at the same time). The right travel pillow can help you catch some shut-eye while on the red-eye (or any other flight), train, bus, or car, so you can enjoy your destination when you arrive. Forget about using a rolled-up sweatshirt (the way I used to snooze while traveling in my youth) shoved against a window. These travel pillow picks are a step up for sleeping on the go.

What to consider when buying travel pillows

Packability .

The problem with any kind of travel accessory is stuffing it back into a carry-on bag after you have used it. Personally, I try to pack as lightly as possible, which means I want a small pillow if I’m using one at all. Thankfully, these days, travel pillows come in all shapes, sizes, and materials, and some are easier to wrangle than others. You can find that pillows deflate after use; others can snap onto the handle of your bag for easy carrying, and a few you may need to make room for.

Travel pillows can also be used for relieving sore backs, like a travel-sized lumbar, which I’ve used on occasion for long car rides. However, if you’re carrying a pillow versus tossing it into the trunk of a car or a travel tote on arrival, consider how much space you want to designate for your travel pillow.

U-shaped, flat mini-sized, and wrap-around are three of the most common shapes for a travel pillow, and all have pros and cons. These pros and cons depend on your sleep position (front versus side) while sitting upright, comfort level with having something around your neck, and if you prefer to lean against a more traditional flat pillow. A front sleeping position is when your chin drops forward as you sleep upright. The side position is just what it sounds like—your head falls to the side while sleeping upright. Some people find themselves using both.

Fill and cover

Like most, travel pillows have different fills including memory foam (some have shredded foam, others use a block), microbeads, or air (if the pillow is a blow-up). Make sure the cover will keep you warm but not overheated while traveling—microfiber and fleece are good options. If you’re allergic to latex or any other material, always check the label before purchasing. Some travel pillows call for hand wash and line drying, while others can be tossed into a washing machine.

Our top picks for best travel pillows

Best travel pillow for large headphones and best for chin support: bcozzy neck pillow.

Bcozzy Neck Pillow

Bcozzy Neck Pillow

This looks like a stuffed animal snake to me, but that's because it provides double ergonomic support designed to prevent neck pain and sore shoulders. I love that it’s adjustable, so you can sleep with your chin propped up if you’re a front sleeper or sleep with your head to the side or both because you can manipulate the pillow (it’s foldable). This travel pillow comes in two sizes, large and x-large making it perfect for many sized bodies.

It has a snap loop and its own carry bag so you can attach it to your luggage or hang it up. You can also simply keep it wrapped around your neck as you traipse through the airport (although you might elicit stares and giggles). Throw it in the wash and air dry to keep it clean. It works great on an airplane, but you can use it anywhere you need to rest sitting up.

Specifications

  • Fill and material: Polyester microfiber
  • Machine washable cover: Yes
  • Size: Up to 15 inches (large) over 15 inches (extra large)
  • Color: Multiple
  • Price on publish: $44.97

What we like:

  • Can be wrapped in different ways depending on your position.
  • Multiple color options

What we don't Like:

  • Wraps around your neck (some people and children may not be comfortable with that)

The bottom line:

This wrap-around travel pillow is suitable for nearly every kind of upright sleeping position, but if you don’t like something wrapped around your neck, this isn’t for you.

Best lumbar support pillow for air travel: Tempur-Pedic Travel Lumbar Cushion

Tempur-Pedic Travel Lumbar Cushion

Tempur-Pedic Travel Lumbar Cushion

Temper-Pedic makes excellent pillows to support your back and spine and this travel lumbar pillow made from memory foam is no exception. It’s made from the same materials as their award-winning mattresses, meaning it will conform to your middle and lower back as you sit upright on an airplane for hours at a time. The molded shape is designed to distribute your weight evenly and relieve pressure. It’s no fun (I speak from experience) to arrive at your destination in back spasms, and a lumbar pillow of this caliber may make all the difference for proper back support.

You can keep it clean by throwing the case in the washing machine or spot clean it on the go. Plus, you don’t have to limit using it to travel; it works great for any situation (work or home) that calls for sitting upright for long periods of time. One downside: It weighs two pounds, which will add to your overall allowed carry-on weight, and you may need to put it on top of your bag or squash into the side.

Specifications:

  • Fill and material: Memory foam and allergen-resistant cover
  • Size: 10 inches x 11 inches x 2 inches
  • Color: Navy
  • Price on publish: $59
  • Conforms to your body
  • Offers plenty of support
  • Can use anywhere, not just for travel
  • Adds weight to your carry-on bag
  • A little bulkier than a smaller pillow

A well-designed lumbar pillow from Tempur-Pedic memory foam that will help prevent back strain on long flights.

Trtl Travel Pillow for Neck Support

Yes, you bet the Trtl travel pillow comes in an adult size—why let kids have all the comfort during travel? This scarf-like travel pillow is extremely soft (thanks to the fleece) and its internal support system keeps your head and neck upright. It may look like a fashion statement, but there’s no need to wear it through the airport; it’s so light that you can toss it into your bag or simply clip it onto your purse.

It's easy to wash the wrap by hand or in a machine, and it has over 19K five-star ratings on Amazon. Personally, my family will all be wearing ours (kids and adults) on a long-haul flight this summer for maximum sleep comfort that we can easily shove into a small carry-on.

Best inflatable travel pillow and best travel pillow for side sleepers: Travelrest All-in-One Travel, Neck & Body Pillow

Travelrest All-in-One Travel, Neck & Body Pillow - Attaches to Airline or Car Seat

Travelrest All-in-One Travel, Neck & Body Pillow - Attaches to Airline or Car Seat

My son said this looks like a blue banana, but I was reminded of a rolled-up yoga mat. This sling-like inflatable travel pillow attaches to the seat of an airplane or car (or, for that matter, could attach to a train or bus seat) and is worn like a sling across your body.

This wins my vote for “best for side sleepers” as well, who need to lean their head to one side for maximum comfort while sleeping on a road trip or flying through the skies. The unusual shape provides lateral support to the upper body and allows you to lean into it while keeping your head and neck in alignment. Best of all, it inflates and deflates easily for portability—roll it up and snap it to the outside of your bag. It may not be the most attractive pillow on the market, but users swear by its comfort. Best of all, you can wash it by hand or on a gentle cycle and line dry while on the road.

  • Fill and material: Velour cover with memory foam
  • Size: 3.5 inches x 10 inches rolled up
  • Color: Blue or gray
  • Price on publish: $36.95
  • Easy to pack
  • May not provide enough support for some sleepers

A soft sling-like pillow that inflates and deflates for easy packability, working extremely well for side sleepers with its lateral support for the upper body.

Best travel and memory foam pillow for side sleepers: Sea to Summit Aeros Premium Traveller Inflatable Neck Pillow

Sea to Summit Aeros Premium Traveller Inflatable Neck Pillow

Sea to Summit Aeros Premium Traveller Inflatable Neck Pillow

Side sleepers have somewhat of an advantage when it comes to sleeping upright because of many U-shaped travel pillow designs, and this one is no exception. Side sleepers can tilt their head to either side of this pillow while keeping their neck and spine in alignment. Plus, this highly-rated travel pillow deflates, so you don’t have to worry about it taking up too much space in your carry-on or purse. It has a narrow center to better fit airplane seats and headrests, too.

  • Fill and material: Air and brushed 50D polyester knit cover
  • Machine washable cover: No (hand wash only)
  • Size: 15.3 inches x 11.4 inches x 4.3 inches (inflated)
  • Price on publish: $49.95
  • Only weighs 3 ounces
  • Good for side sleepers
  • Includes its own zippered case
  • May not be good if you don’t typically rest your head to one side

An ultra-soft cover on an inflatable and durable air-pillow with a traditional U-shaped opening that works well for airline travel if you don’t mind a firm headrest.

The cover for this travel pillow is breathable, so you don't overheat, and it comes with an adjustable front strap and a seat strap. If you’re looking for a U-shaped memory foam travel pillow, this one comes highly recommended by users for its affordable price, neck and head support, and ability to squash down to half its size so you can pack it away.

Best travel pillow for car trips: Ostrichpillow Go Neck Pillow

Ostrichpillow Go Neck Pillow

Ostrichpillow Go Neck Pillow

Soft and flexible memory foam makes this a great choice as a passenger pillow in a car or in the air. It wraps like a neck brace providing ergonomic comfort and support to your head and neck, and the flat back allows you to rest without having your head jutting out, which could be uncomfortable for long periods of time. Instead, your head is cradled in a 360-degree upright position.

This one is pricey, and for some, a car ride calls for your favorite bedroom pillow, not a special travel one, but if you can afford the splurge, it can make road trips more pleasurable when you are at rest. If you need to take it with you, pop it into its carrying case and clip it to your carry-on or luggage because it compresses down to 60% of its size.

  • Fill and material: BASF memory foam core and OEKO-TEX® 95% viscose, 5% elastomer
  • Size: 9.8 inches x 6.7 inches x 2.7 inches
  • Color: Four color combos (soft gray and teal, soft gray and navy, and soft gray and black, dark gray and black)
  • Price on publish: $60
  • Has hundreds of five-star reviews
  • Memory foam core for comfort and stability
  • Carrying case and compresses down in size
  • Adjustable velcro to fit most-sized necks
  • On the expensive side

A soft, flexible memory foam pillow that keeps the head and neck in alignment for rest on the road (or skies) and compresses down for easy storage in its own sack that clips onto your carry-on.

How to maintain and clean travel pillows

Like all pillows, read and follow the label directions for cleaning. If you have a blow-up pillow, you may be able to simply wipe it down with a disinfectant cloth. Many travel pillows come with removable and washable covers that can be hand-washed with soap and air dried during your trip or thrown into a washing machine on a gentle cycle with a mild detergent if you have access to a laundry.

Portability and storage solutions

When you travel, especially by air, keeping bags and things to a minimum may be at the top of your list of priorities—it’s definitely on mine. Travel pillows may come with their own case, but often that’s to help keep your travel pillow clean and secure, and unfortunately, it may just end up as another thing to schlep around with you.

There are a few portability and storage solutions you can consider. Some travel pillows deflate and lay flat. Others can be squished into a compact ball you can stuff into your carry-on. A memory foam or cotton travel pillow may be stored in a vacuum-sealed or compression bag to minimize space. Other pillows have attachable clips that allow you to simply clip it to the exterior, often the handle of your bag. If you’re using a large travel pillow, consider stuffing it into a sling-style bag (if it will roll up, maybe a yoga bag) and wearing it as a cross-body.

What are the different types of travel pillows available?

There are a few different types of travel pillows available on the market, including U-shaped ones that wrap around your head and neck, small bean-bag type pillows (usually filled with microbeads), and long lumbar pillows that can be used for travel.

How we tested and selected the best travel pillows

I’ve personally used some of these or very similar travel pillows on air and road trips. I polled my friends and colleagues, researched many types of travel pillows at multiple price points, and conducted a deep dive into reviews of each product, including ratings by travel specialists.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

Are memory foam travel pillows comfortable for long flights.

Yes, according to travelers I spoke with. And according to online reviews of various memory foam travel pillows, memory foam—either shredded or in a block—does work well on long flights. You can find many highly-rated memory foam travel pillows on the market—several are on my list!

Are travel pillows suitable for use in cars or trains?

Yes! Travel pillows aren’t limited to airplane use. You can use a travel pillow any time you need to sleep during a trip. Some people like to use their travel pillows, depending on the shape and size of it, in a hotel room, too.

Can travel pillows help prevent neck pain during travel?

The right travel pillow for you may help prevent neck pain during travel because your posture can take a hit when you fall asleep in an upright or semi-upright position like in an airplane seat. Of course, there is no guarantee that a travel pillow will save you from a stiff neck, but most quality ones are designed to protect you against neck pain or strain caused by long hours in a seated position. You can also look for a travel pillow that’s designed by, or recommended by, chiropractors.

Do travel pillows come in different sizes?

Absolutely! While most are on the smaller size, you can find larger ones. There’s a wide range of travel pillows on the market. If you want a large pillow, consider simply bringing one from your bedroom—these work fine, I’ve found, when taking a road trip and you just need to rest by squashing a pillow behind you (or depending on their tolerance, leaning it against a sibling or cousin, in my case).

Do travel pillows come with carrying cases?

Yes. Many travel pillows (and most of the ones above) come with a carrying case that can help keep the pillow clean and separate from your other carry-on items. Of course, you don't have to use the case, if it takes up room, but if it is included, it’s nice to use.

If your current pillow is too hot, too soft, or doesn’t hold its shape well, consider a latex pillow. According to Dr. Seema Bonney, MD and Mattress Firm’s sleep doctor, “Natural latex is organic (a natural type of foam derived from the rubber tree's sap), hypoallergenic and antimicrobial, [as it] keeps away pollen, molds, allergens, mildew, and dust mites.” With a naturally soft and bouncy feel per Dr. Bonney, latex pillows can also provide a good amount of support for the head and neck.

We put the comfort and feel of latex pillows to the test, trying out a wide variety of latex pillows and assessing them based on factors like quality, breathability, support, durability, comfort, and value. We tested pillows across the price spectrum (after all, a good night of sleep should be available to everyone), and we used expert insight from Dr. Bonney to better understand why latex pillows are a great choice for so many different types of sleepers. Whether you’re looking to sleep cooler, find a pillow that’s built to last, or rest on a more comfortable pillow, the options below were top-performing products for us.

  • How We Tested
  • What to Look For

Why Trust The Spruce?

Best overall, buffy foam breeze pillow.

  • Quality 5 /5
  • Breathability 5 /5
  • Support 5 /5
  • Durability 5 /5
  • Comfort 5 /5

Immediately bounces back into shape

Perforated for increased breathability

Comfortable for all sleep positions

Extra length makes pillowcases too small

With instantaneous bounce back, the ability to maintain its shape and support, and solid temperature regulation, the Buffy Breeze was a clear winner in our latex pillow tests. We found this pillow to deliver on all of its promises, from its support to its comfort for back, side, and even stomach sleepers. Whether we folded, twisted, placed a heavy medicine ball on, or otherwise manipulated the pillow in our tests, we were seriously impressed by how quickly it bounced back to its original shape and thickness, with no indentations, creases, or other alignment-affecting changes.

We also loved how well this latex pillow supported weight. In addition to testing it out firsthand, we also added weight to its surface to see if its materials might sink in or lose a bit of support. The Breeze stayed strong and consistent when we used it at home for six months, providing lasting support. We found it was especially supportive for side and back sleepers, for whom Dr. Bonney recommends using a firmer pillow, and yet is still comfortable for stomach sleepers. We loved using it as a lower back pillow too while lying in bed watching TV. Plus, if you’re looking for a cooler night’s sleep , we liked that the Breeze offered good temperature regulation. It did heat up a bit after laying atop it for five minutes, but its perforations helped balance the warmth with airflow.

One detail that surprised us about this Buffy pillow was its extra-large size. Even though it comes in traditional Standard and King sizes, we found the pillow to be longer than your average Standard pillow. Those added few inches can be a perk if you like some extra wiggle room, but we found that the increased size made it difficult to get a standard pillowcase on. This doesn’t detract from the standout comfort of the Breeze, but you may want to buy larger pillowcases before adding it to your bed.

This Buffy Breeze Pillow is best for side sleepers who need more support in their neck. Back sleepers who enjoy a lifted pillow may also appreciate this option.

Best Splurge

Saatva latex pillow.

  • Breathability 4 /5
  • Comfort 4 /5

Responsive support

Breathable and moisture-wicking

Three height options

If it’s a luxury sleep experience you’re looking for from a latex pillow, we find it hard to top Saatva’s Natural Latex Pillow. While Saatva may be best known for its mattresses , this pillow is a standout, too. For us, this pillow fits the bill with luxurious touches you’ll see and feel across its material, construction, and comfort at night. One of the standout details for us was the high-quality material used to give this latex pillow a plush, thick density that both cradles your head and offers support. We found that it was so comfortable that we weren’t tossing and turning as much as usual at night.

When putting this Saatva pillow to the test, we were immediately comfortable resting atop its surface. Unlike other single-piece options on our list, this pillow has a shredded latex core which contributes to the overall support and comfortability. After three months of use at home, we liked how the fill maintained its loft and shape, staying just as firm as the first night we used it.

Saatva’s Latex Pillow checks a few other boxes for us as well: It didn’t have any latex odor, and it absorbed the heat under our heads well. The attention to detail didn’t end there, though; we like that Saatva offers 45-day trials, a one-year warranty, and free shipping. Just be mindful and cautious that while the instructions said the case could be machine-dried on low, we found it to shrink in the drier.

The standard loft version of this Saatva latex pillow is best for back and stomach sleepers. Side sleepers will appreciate the extra support of the high loft option.

Sizes: Standard/Queen or king | Fill Material: Shredded natural latex | Cover Material: Cotton | Care: Machine-washable cover

Best for Back Sleepers

Brooklyn bedding talalay pillow.

Brooklyn Bedding

Two loft options

Resilient latex

3-year warranty

Does retain some heat

With slightly less loft than other pillows and a nicely resilient and firm feel, Brooklyn Bedding’s Talalay Latex Pillow proved to be a great choice for us while sleeping on our backs. The less plush nature of this latex option lent itself well to back sleeping support in our testing, and we found the “high loft” (there are two loft options) to be quite comfortable. If you prefer an even lower loft option for back sleeping , you can opt for this somewhat customized feel.

We also liked the details of this pillow, from the removable cover that was easy to take on and off to the smooth-gliding zipper. Furthermore, it ranked low on the odor scale for us, with no noticeable smell or off-gassing upon opening. We found the latex bounced back into shape quickly after being put under pressure and folded. After fifteen minutes under a bowling ball, it was back to its normal shape within 12 seconds.

While this pillow wasn’t hot by any means, it didn’t do as good of a job of staying cool as other pillows we tested, like our best overall pick, the Buffy Breeze. In testing, we noticed it was warmer to the touch after being laid on for five minutes. We tested this pillow for six months at home and found that it does wear down with regular use. We noticed a dent where we regularly laid our head on the pillow each night, so you should assess your preferred sleeping position before opting for this pillow.

Additionally, while Brooklyn Bedding advertises that this pillow suits every sleeping position, we think it’s the best fit for back sleepers because of its firmer, more resilient nature. Side sleepers may find it doesn’t offer enough padding for their needs, and it’s a bit too firm for stomach sleepers. However, if you’re not sure if it’ll work for you, we like that the brand offers a three-year warranty on its pillows.

This Brooklyn Bedding pillow is great for anyone who prefers a firm pillow for sleeping on their back.

Best for Side Sleepers

Beautyrest latex foam bed pillow.

Responsive, springy feel

Slight sinking-in with pressure

Silky cotton cover

May be too thick for some

With excellent cooling capabilities, springy and responsive resilience, and just the right amount of plushness, Beautyrest’s Latex Foam Bed Pillow with Removable Cover is a great fit for those who like to sleep on their sides. Made with Talalay latex that features holes meant to increase ventilation, we found this pillow offered support yet a medium level of firmness that kept our head and neck aligned on our side. When we placed a medicine ball on top, it didn’t sink very deep, just about an inch and a half; the pillow resumed its normal shape, leaving no trace of the medicine ball. We found the latex to have a bouncy, springy responsiveness when weight was added.

Additionally, we liked that no indentations were left after we folded the pillow, which makes this a good choice for anyone seeking a lot of support. On the outside, it’s covered with a 300-thread-count cotton cover with a silkier feel that’s easy to remove and put back onto the pillow. We've loved using this pillow at home for six months and find that it offers plenty of support. It also has not changed shape at all since we started using it regularly.

Due to its thicker, fuller plushness, we felt most comfortable sleeping on our sides with this pillow, as it maintained most of its 3-inch thickness during use. Do be aware that while this option is promoted for every kind of sleeper, some people may find the loft, which really won’t compress deeply, to be too thick for them.

This solid latex pillow from Beautyrest is suitable for any sleep position, but we found side sleepers will especially enjoy the springy support this pillow offers.

Best Cooling

Sijo clima latex pillow.

  • Breathability 4.5 /5
  • Support 4.5 /5
  • Comfort 4.5 /5

Temperature-regulating

Maintains firmness and shape over time

Light, breathable fill

Texture can require an adjustment period

While latex is known for its breathability, not all latex pillows are built the same–and they aren’t all cooling for sleepers who run hot. If staying cool is your priority, you’ll want to make sure you choose a pillow with the right technology. We recommend Sijo’s Clima Latex Pillow because it goes beyond simply relying on latex to keep you cool. In addition to the breathability of the latex, this pillow also includes moisture-wicking lyocell fibers and plant-derived paraffin, which both work to regulate heat. The result is a pillow that dissipates heat, which we found to be the case in testing; at no point in the night did we have to flip to the “cooler” side of the pillow.

In addition to the cooling properties, this pillow also proved to be durable throughout six months of use at home. It's so resilient that while the latex didn’t sag over time, it actually had the opposite problem: Its bouncy nature took some getting used to. Overall, we found this pillow to maintain its loft, shape, and light, breathable, no-fluffing-required fill, continuing to provide excellent support. After regular use, the quality was virtually identical to the day that we received it.

This cooling pillow from Sijo is best for people who prefer to sleep on their backs and sides.

The Company Store Contour Support Latex Pillow

The Company Store

  • Quality 4.5 /5

Unchanging, lasting firmness

Contoured shape

Includes two washable covers

Lacks any plushness

Mild latex odor

In addition to the natural contouring latex provides, The Company Store’s Contouring Latex Pillow features a specially-contoured wave design to accommodate different sleep positions. While using it at home for six months, we found it to be particularly firm. If you’re someone who loves a firm sleep surface and wants to ensure your body is well-aligned while sleeping on your back or side, the shape of this latex pillow makes for a great fit.

This pillow may not have much bounce, but it does hold its shape impressively well. When not being laid on or maneuvered, it immediately returns to its starting state and shape, and in our medicine ball test, it showed no signs of the weight that was on it merely moments before. It’s also worth pointing out that this pillow may feel stiff when lying on it, but it very quickly becomes comfortable.

While not overbearing, this pillow does have a mild latex odor. We couldn’t smell it on our backs, but when we laid on our sides it was noticeable. Additionally, while we think its firmness has benefits, it’s worth noting that there’s no plushness or sink-in softness to this pillow. It’s all about support first and foremost, so if you want a little cushiony softness, this isn’t the best fit for your sleep style.

The Company Store's Contour Support Latex Pillow is designed for all sleep positions, but we found it may be best for back sleepers who prefer a firm pillow and cradled head.

Best Organic

Organic textiles natural latex pillow.

Four firmness options

Maintains temperature well

Natural latex and organic cotton cover

Slight lasting latex odor

Many people prefer latex pillows for the natural materials, but just because something is made with latex doesn’t mean it’s entirely organic. If organic bedding materials are your priority, look no further than the Organic Textiles Natural Latex Pillow. The fill is made with 100 percent pure Talalay latex, featuring no synthetic latex or memory foams. On the outside, the cotton case is GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certified, so you know it’s truly organic.

In our testing, this pillow did have a bit of a latex odor that lasted even after unpacking, though we would rank it as a two out of five, being very mild. It proved to be breathable and fairly cooling, as it maintained the same temperature after lying on top of it. When we tested it under the weight of a medicine ball, it resiliently bounced back to life quickly. We also like that there are four different firmness options to choose from, meaning you can decide how bouncy and supportive you’d like to be, depending on your sleep position. Thanks to the variety of options, this latex pillow should be able to accommodate many different sleep styles.

We loved using this pillow at home for six months and found that while it's a firmer pillow it does offer enough responsiveness to feel comfortable in any sleeping position. It also hasn't worn down with regular use, which we think is a great indication of the latex core's durability.

The Organic Textiles Natural Latex Pillow is available in four firmness options, making it suitable for any sleep position. Back sleepers may enjoy the firmer option while side sleepers will want a medium or soft firmness.

Best Shredded Latex Pillow

Plush beds shredded latex pillow.

  • Quality 4 /5
  • Support 3.5 /5

Adjustable fill

Easy to fluff and manipulate

Conforms with consistent support

Doesn’t return to shape on its own

Adjusting the fill can be messy

Shredded latex pillows are more malleable than a traditional solid, single-piece latex pillow. We put this to the test with Plush Beds’ Shredded Latex Pillow, and we loved the adjustable and adaptable shredded fill inside. Not only could we remove or add fill to suit our desired level of firmness and loft, but we were also able to move the fill around to adjust the pillow for support–a detail that made a noticeable difference in our comfort.

In testing, we found the pillow to contour around our heads, especially when we removed some of the filling. We also liked how breathable the fill was, thanks to the smaller pieces allowing more airflow through the pillow overall. However, be aware that adjusting the filling can be somewhat messy; we found the smaller chunks of material wound up everywhere.

Do be aware that unlike most of the other options on our list, this pillow didn’t naturally return to its original shape after putting a heavy medicine ball on it. It instead required some fluffing from us to get it back to normal. We do like the adjustable nature of the pillow, though, as it feels more like a down alternative or feather pillow as you can bend, shape, and move the fill to your liking. After using this pillow for six months at home, we found that it's a loftier pillow that may require an adjustment period if you're used to a super soft design. However, we still think it's a great option for anyone who is used to the shiftable nature of a down- or cotton-filled pillow.

This shredded latex pillow from Plush Beds is best for side and back sleepers. Side sleepers will appreciate the extra support of all the shredded fill, but back sleepers may want to remove some of the fill.

Birch by Helix Organic Pillow

Birch by Helix

  • Quality 4.8 /5

Malleable but supportive

Softer, looser fill

100-night trial

Not very breathable or cooling

While many latex pillows are pretty firm, you can get a plush feeling with the same material in the Birch by Helix Organic Pillow. We love how this pillow feels like a down or down alternative pillow , yet contains the benefits of latex like added support and increased durability. It feels wonderfully lofty and soft when lying on the pillow’s surface, and yet it still “bounces back” to provide consistent head and neck support. When we tested it by putting a medicine ball on top, the pillow conformed and created a nest around the ball. Despite being filled with latex, it’s super easy to manipulate and fold. The beauty of the latex, though, was that even after contorting it to suit our needs, it was still able to bounce back quickly.

This pillow uses a shredded Talalay latex core, which is what helps it achieve its malleability, and it’s wrapped in organic wool to create a more plush feel. Due to its quality, we would also call it the best Talalay latex pillow on our list. While it succeeds in this regard, we did find the cover held onto heat, resulting in a pillow that may not be suited to hotter sleepers. Similar to our best shreded latex pillow, the Plush Beds Shredded Latex Pillow , this pillow has a higher loft than what some users may expect from a latex pillow. We appreciate its resilient design, which has held up well over six months of use at home.

While it may not be for everyone, we think this pillow is a great softer option that offers all the same benefits as a solid latex pillow. Other perks to note, however, include the GOTS-certified materials and Fair Trade cotton, a 100-night trial, free shipping, and a one-year warranty–all details that will help you sleep better at night in terms of peace of mind.

The Birch by Helix Organic Pillow is best for people who prefer to sleep on their side. The shredded fill can be removed for a flatter pillow so even back and stomach sleepers may enjoy this design.

Sizes: Standard or king | Fill Material: Shredded latex, wool | Cover Material: Cotton cover | Care: Spot clean only

If you’re in the market for a new pillow , our pick for the best overall latex pillow is the Buffy Breeze Pillow , which has a breathable latex core and oversized design. We loved how responsive, yet firm it felt. If you're looking for a pillow that leaves nothing to be desired, our best splurge pick, the Saatva Latex Pillow , is available in two loft sizes and has a gusseted design for even more height making it a great choice for almost any sleep position.

How We Tested the Latex Pillows

Determining the best pillow is highly subjective based on a user's preferred sleeping positions. With this in mind, we made sure to use all of the latex pillows we tested in the sleep positions recommended by the manufacturer. To avoid rating pillows purely based on their comfort levels, we also looked at several other attributes to provide each pillow with a thorough and honest rating.

During our testing in The Lab, we reviewed 17 latex pillows by initially measuring each pillow's loft height. We also noted any pillows that had adjustable fill or removable covers. Since latex can have a distinct scent, we also smelled each pillow for any unpleasant odors. We also attempted to manipulate the pillows by folding them in "hot dog" and "hamburger" styles, when possible. All these tests helped us determine the quality and support of the pillows. We also tested the durability of the pillows by placing a six-pound medicine ball on the center of the pillow and leaving it for 15 minutes. During this time we noted how much the pillow had collapsed under the weight of the medicine ball. Then once 15 minutes was up, we removed the medicine ball and timed how long each pillow took to regain its original loft.

Testing the comfort of each pillow involved lying on top of it in all possible positions until we found one most comfortable with that pillow. We then laid on it for five minutes. For pillows with adjustable fill, we removed any necessary fill to be comfortable while lying on top of that pillow. While using the pillows we also noted whether our heads felt hot and touched the surface of the pillow after lying on it to gauge how much heat it retained. We were also able to further test breathability when we used each pillow at home for six months.

After our lab tests, we considered the value of each pillow based on how it performed in the lab. We then re-evaluated the value of each pillow after using them at home for six months, which proved essential in learning that latex pillows are not for every sleeper. We had several pillows originally on our list that were removed for being uncomfortable and too firm, offering no support to any sleep position. We also had pillows excel for their firmness, which further proves how personal shopping for a pillow, specifically one made from a unique material like latex can be. We recommend paying attention to sleep trials and warranties offered on any pillow you're considering in case you find it doesn't offer the support you need.

What to Look for in a Latex Pillow

While you may think that “latex” is the same across the board, there are some differences and different options available. Commonly seen types of latex include Dunlop and Talalay (gone into more detail in our FAQ section) which refers to the manufacturing process through which they are created.

Beyond the material and the processing, latex can also come in varying degrees of quality. Fortunately, some certifications can aid in helping you understand what you are purchasing. Some common ones include:

  • GOLS (Global Organic Latex Standard) : in addition to ensuring the organic quality of the latex used, GOLS also ensures that the production of the latex meets certain social and environmental standards. On our list, Plush Beds Shredded Latex Pillow ( best shredded latex pillow ) features GOLS-certified latex.
  • Greenguard Gold : this is a standard that is more focused on air quality. Products that have this certification have been screened for more than 15,000 VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) that can pollute the air. One example of a product with this certification is our best plush latex pillow, the Birch by Helix Organic Pillow .
  • OEKO-TEX 100 : this certification focuses on testing textiles for harmful substances. It tests articles for both regulated and non-regulated substances that could potentially cause harm to health.

When it comes to thickness for your latex pillow, or any pillow for that matter, Dr. Bonney tells us that sleep position will be the major determining factor. “A thicker pillow is better for someone who sleeps on their side so that it can fill that hollow space between the mattress and the neck and shoulder,” she notes. The adjustable latex pillow options on our list, the Plush Beds Shredded Latex Pillow ( best shredded latex pillow ) and the Birch by Helix Organic Pillow ( best plush ) had loft heights of 7.25 and 7 inches respectively. We found they offered almost too much support for back sleepers when all the fill was used but would be ideal for side sleepers.

A thinner pillow “is better for someone who sleeps on their back, keeping the airways straight by preventing the head and neck from tilting up,” she adds. Our thinnest loft height was The Company Store Contour Support Latex Pillow ( best firm ) at just 4.75 inches. This pillow was one of the firmest ones we tested but it offers a distinct level of support for back sleepers.

Dr. Bonney tells us that firmness will be what determines the support that you receive, noting that it is “best to use a pillow that has firm or medium firm support to keep the head and neck aligned with the spine,” adding that a pillow that is too soft may feel comfortable at first, but it won’t necessarily give you the support that you need. However, she also tells us that stomach sleepers are “better off using a soft pillow so their head is closer to the mattress.” With this in mind, something more plush like the Birch by Helix Organic Pillow ( best plush ) could be a good option to consider for stomach sleepers.

There are a handful of major benefits to latex pillows if you’re in the market for something new. As mentioned above by Dr. Bonney, latex is hypoallergenic and antimicrobial, which helps it to keep pollen, mold, and allergens away, and she notes that it’s also a durable material.

Dr. Bonney says latex pillows are supportive because they’re naturally soft and bouncy. Plus, “It's responsive in that it allows the pillow to contour the head without allowing it to sink too deep into the pillow which keeps your airway in proper positioning,” she says.

“Probably everyone but especially for people who tend to sleep hot and people with allergies. Latex pillows are breathable; they don't trap heat from the body, keeping you cool at night,” Dr. Bonney tells us. Of course, it's worth considering that some people have latex allergies, and for obvious reasons they should steer clear of latex. Another popular detail people like about latex pillows is their longevity; they tend to last longer than memory foam and other materials.

Talalay and Dunlop refer to the process through which the latex is manufactured. Simply put , Dunlop tends to be cheaper because the process is simpler. The result of the different processing generally results in Dunlop being more firm and dense than Talalay, while Talalay is usually more breathable. Overall, though, it's hard to say which is “better” because they both have their own set of benefits.

According to Dr. Bonney, “Latex is notable for retaining their shape and firmness, but are malleable, and adjust to your movements. They generally don't go flat for many years.” She adds that latex pillows will generally last about five years, in comparison to their memory foam counterparts that last between one and two years. If you like this long-lasting quality, don’t forget that the same is true with a latex mattress .
