Canadian Motorhome Vacations

With its close proximity to a number of major US metropolitan areas, as well as relatively easy border-crossing regulations, a Canada motorhome vacation can be an easy and inexpensive trip.

Because Canada is so easy to get to, many travelers choose to drive across the border, allowing for hassle-free travel throughout the provinces. Driving also allows you to go where planes and public transport cannot, so you can enjoy activities like  RV camping  in Canada. With  Cruise America RV rental , you can take a Canada motorhome vacation and enjoy a convenient trip to our northern neighbors.

Canadians are also welcome to take a Canada  RV rental  on their motorhome vacation. If you live in Canada, rent an RV at any of our six locations - Vancouver , Toronto , Calgary , Montreal , Whitehorse or Halifax . Plus, a Cruise America/Cruise Canada RV rental is also ideal for European travelers who want to explore North America in comfort.

TIPS FOR CROSSING THE BORDER ON YOUR CANADA MOTORHOME VACATION

Visas are not required for US citizens on a Canada motorhome vacation unless you plan to work or stay for more than six months.  There is a good possibility that you will be required to present a passport starting January 1, 2008 to reenter the United Sates

  • Be aware of recent changes to identification requirements for US citizens crossing the border. According to the US Department of State, all US citizens without a US passport will need to show a driver's license plus proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate or naturalization certificate.
  • Children under age 16 traveling to Canada without their parents or guardians will need written and notarized permission from their parents.
  • Non-citizen permanent residents of the US must present their Alien Identification Card (green card) at the border.

Crossing the border is usually a simple process for American citizens, but taking note of current restrictions and requirements before you start your Canada motorhome vacation is an easy way to prevent delays. We recommend visiting the  US Department of State's  website for the most up-to-date information on traveling abroad.

What type of license do I need to rent an RV in Canada ?

As part of an  RV rental in Calgary , or elsewhere in Canada, many people wonder if they should have an international driving license or a special license to drive an RV.

We won't let the mystery hang too long: the short answer is no .

In fact, you just need to have a valid regular driver's license from your home country to ren an RV for your Canada tours.

Here are the two conditions to meet for your license to be accepted here:

1- Your license must use the Latin alphabet.

2- Primary and additional drivers must have obtained their official driving license at least 12 months prior to the rental.

In all cases, rental companies only accept to rent vehicles to people aged 21 and over.

These conditions can be different for RV rental in the U.S.

What is the minimum age to rent an RV?

Before renting an RV in Canada, make sure that the primary driver and additional driver(s) are of age to rent a vehicle.

The minimum age varies from one renter to another, anywhere between 21 and 25 years old.

Here are the minimum age requirements depending on the renter:

Cité Caravane: 25  Fraserway: 21 Four Seasons: 21 Canadream: 21 Cruise Canada: 21 Best Time: 21 Happy Holidays: 21

When should I book my RV?

Every year, many travelers find themselves unable to rent an RV in Canada, due to lack of availability.

Indeed, this form of travel is very popular and unfortunately, the demand is higher than the offer , especially during high season.

If you want to hire a vehicle during the months of July and August , book early (at least six months in advance), since it is our high season. Sometimes reservations open up to 1 year in advance and this can greatly affect the price of your trip.

Finally, it is also better to book your RV before buying your plane tickets to ensure you won't have any bad surprise, especially if you necessitate a one-way and / or high season rental.

Book early!

What is the best time for Canada tours by RV?

With no great surprise, the summer season is the best time to plan an RV road trip in Canada.

Although the rental of RVs with us is possible between May 1st and October 31st, we do recommend mid-May to mid-October more.

High season is undoubtedly between early July and mid-August.

The RVs are then in great demand. This means that the availability is very limited. If you choose to travel during high season, plan to reserve your vehicle at least six months in advance to ensure availability.

The months of June and September are very interesting to plan your Canada tours in RV because the temperature is pleasant, there are a lot less tourists and the rental prices are very competitive.

The beginning of October offers an astonishing charm in Eastern Canada, with its Indian summer phenomenon. The trees are then adorned with their multicolored leaves, offering quite a spectacle! It is definitely a good time to consider if you're interested in  Eastern Canada tours .

Can I cancel my booking free of charge?

Here are the penalties you should expect if you cancel your RV rental following a reservation:

  • FREE cancellation up to 72 hours after booking
  • Between 72 hours after booking and 61 days or more before departure: 20% of the price
  • Between 60 and 46 days before departure : 25% of the price
  • Between 45 and 15 days before departure: 50% of the price
  • Less than 15 days before departure: 100% of the price

One-way rental fees are due in full, if applicable, 72 hours after your reservation is made.

However, it is possible to subscribe to a cancellation protection in order to avoid all these costs in the case of an unforeseen event. This cancellation protection is exclusively offered on our RV rental comparison tool and is part of the advantages of renting your RV through a canadian travel agency .

Do I have to rent a child car seat?

In Canada, child car seats must meet the Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (CMVSS).

If your seat does meet these standards, take it with you! Most airlines will let your board with it free of charge and your child will be more comfortable, just like at home.

Otherwise, you will have to think about renting a child seat for your Canada tours. This option is payable in advance or on site, depending on the rental company.

Please note that not all RV rental companies offer this option.

The furnace stop working, the kitchen drawers and the bathroom door were not keeping closed. We paid for the provision set, but it didn't come with broom and bucket. A good experience overall but some minor improvements would have made it better. ”

Location Overview

Vancouver is ideal to explore with a motorhome rental. The city is full of interesting attractions and beautiful parks, surrounded by towering mountains. Vancouver is home to Stanley Park, one of the largest urban parks in North America.

Some of our favorite things to do year-round in Vancouver are:

Summer (June, July, August): Vancouver’s beautiful beaches are the place to be in summer. English Bay Beach is known for its beach volleyball courts, while Jericho Beach is a popular spot to play baseball and tennis. Not-to-be-missed summer events include Canada Day, Celebration of Light and Vancouver Pride Parade.

Fall (September, October, November): Stanley Park should be on top of your list when visiting Vancouver in Fall. This tranquil oasis boasts Canada’s largest aquarium plus an array of kid-friendly spots. Maplewood Farm is also a popular place to bring the kids to experience feeding farm animals like bunnies and ducks, and go on a pony ride.

Winter (December, January, February): Grab your ice skates and head to Robson Square Ice Rink. If you prefer to go skiing or snowboarding, there are a handful of world-class ski resorts nearby including Whistler Blackcomb Resort. This resort is less than a two-hour drive from downtown Vancouver.

Spring (March, April, May): Get up close and personal with whales. The whale season in Vancouver begins in March and there are tours to take you on the water to get up close.. See different species of flowers in full bloom at Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden and VanDusen Botanical Garden. Paddle out into False Creek in a kayak and take in city views.

Year-Round: Visiting Vancouver need not be expensive as there are some exciting things you can do for free like hiking up the Grouse Grind, biking at the Seawall, and crossing the Lynn Canyon Suspension Bridge.

Vancouver Lookout

Enjoy 360-degree views over the city from the Vancouver Lookout at Harbour Center, opened in a ceremony by Neil Armstrong in 1977.

One of the city’s tallest buildings puts you 548 feet above the streets below and on a clear day, one can sight the North Shore Mountains and Vancouver Island. Tickets are valid for same-day return.

A popular choice is to return for a second sunset viewing. The lookout is conveniently located, directly across from Waterfront Station and a few blocks from Gastown.

Winter Rentals from Vancouver:

Winterization in Vancouver does not always happen. A Vancouver winter may only be very wet with high rainfall and winterization does not need to be implemented. But if Winterization is to happen because of predicted freezing temperatures then it usually starts around 1 October and finishes at the end of April. This means that there is no running water in the RVs to prevent pipes freezing and causing damage and customers are advised to stay in campgrounds and use camp facilities during this time.

You will also need to keep the RV plugged into the mains overnight to ensure the batteries stay charged. Batteries loose power very quickly in sub-zero temperatures.
