No matter which you choose, campers come with fairly standard and overall boring interiors. Give your camper a personal touch to make the place feel more like home. Having a personalized space, no matter where you park, it is a great feeling.

Keep in mind your RV décor needs to be light to keep from going overweight. In some cases, you can reduce your camper weight by replacing some of the dull décor with lightweight modern style. If you think something may be too heavy, best to leave it behind. For more info check out our article called 20 Best Ways to Reduce RV Weight .

Here are 19 travel trailer and RV decorating ideas to get you started.

1. Paint the Interior Walls

Painting your camper walls is a great way to add a personal touch without worrying about going overweight. Choosing your color scheme is a great way to make your camper feel more like a home away from home. Softer lighter colors can make a small space like a camper feel bigger than it really is. And adding an accent wall with a darker color can make a small room feel larger too!

2. Add Throw Pillows And Blankets to Accessorize Your Travel Trailer

Adding throw pillows and blankets to your RV bedroom or living space makes your RV more comfortable and they look great too.

Choose a theme for your blankets and throw pillows that fit your camper design. Make your throw pillows bold and bright to liven up the space. Throw pillows and blankets are an easy inexpensive and fun travel trailer decorating idea!

3. Install Wall Decals Inside Your Camper Trailer

Wall Decal

Wall decals give a space a unique look and allow you to express your individual style. I would put up wall Fathead wall decals of the Baltimore Ravens but Susan would kill me! Choose something small and light like stickers or get creative and paint your own with stencils. There are many wall decal options to choose from, or you can create your own.

4. Use Peel and Stick Flooring Inside Your RV or Travel Trailer

Similar to wall decals, peel and stick tile or wood flooring can add style to your place without a significant investment. Accent a kitchen wall with peel and stick tile sheets for a personal touch. Peel and stick sheets are easy to use and inexpensive. You can also use them on the ceiling for an easy wood plank ceiling look.

5. Maybe It’s Time for Some Cool Clocks to Decorate Your Travel Trailer

There are some cool clock designs that can add character to your camper. Not only are clocks decorative but they are also practical at the same time. Hanging a lightweight basic clock above the kitchen area can make a place feel more like home. If your camper has a theme, just choose a clock to go along with the theme.

6. Use Decorative Towels to Enhance the Look of Your RV Bathroom or Kitchen

Travel Trailer Hand and Dish Towels

Decorative hand and dish towels are great to have when camping. Why not choose fun patterns and designs to match the décor of your camper? Add a pop of color to your kitchen or bathroom with bright colored towels.

7. New Curtains Can Dress Up Your Camper Trailer Decor

Your travel trailer or RV probably came with a standard set of boring curtains or valances. Change things up by replacing them with new colorful designs. It’s incredible how much a fresh set of curtains can brighten up a place. Add your curtains into the pattern theme you choose for decorating your camper.

8. Flameless Candles Can Add Ambiance to Your RV

Flameless Candles

It’s tough to have candles in a small space like a camper. With flameless candles , you can set the mood without worrying about setting your camper on fire. Flameless candles add great ambiance and soft lighting inside and outside while camping.

9. Roll Out the Welcome Mat

Having a personalized welcome mat when you walk into your camper is a great touch. Not only does it add personal style to your camper, but it helps keep the dirt out. It’s always a constant battle keeping dirt, sand, and mud out of the camper while camping. This can also be a part of the decorating theme you choose.

10. Wallpaper Maps Make a Great RV Travel Decor Idea

Another way to add color and flair to your camper is by hanging maps of places you’ve been. Choose some of your favorite places and use the maps of those areas to decorate your walls. This way you’ll never leave home without a map of where you’re going when you lose cell service!

11. Install New Cabinet Knobs in Your Trailer’s Kitchen and Bath

Installing cabinet knobs is easy to do and will make your camper’s bath and kitchen cabinets feel like new. Shop around at your local hardware store and pick out cabinet knobs and handles that you like. Swap those out with what your camper currently has. A small touch goes a long way to making a place feel homey. Cabinet handles don’t have to be boring, pick out something fun!

12. Adorn Your Travel Trailer for the Holidays

RV Halloween Decorations

Have fun and decorate your travel trailer or RV for the holidays! Susan’s favorite holiday to decorate for is Halloween! But you can decorate for whatever holidays you like. And Christmas lights don’t need to be used only at Christmas time. They can provide excellent soft lighting while camping at any time of the year. String lights around your living space or bedroom to give your camper good ambiance or provide accent lighting. Lamps can be rather heavy and only provide light in a single area. Plus you have to stow them away when on the road. Christmas lights are much lighter and provide even lighting.

13. Install Bunk Beds to Gain Space for Your RV

Stacking beds in your camper gives you more space for activities. You’ll have more space to sleep and hang out with the family. Plus, bunk beds can add a cozy cabin feel in your camper. Take the cabin feel with you wherever you go.

14. Install Hanging Wicker Baskets in Your Travel Trailer

Wall Mount Wicker Basket

Rather than building shelves, you could hang wicker baskets on the walls for added storage. These are great for bathroom items or pantry storage. Shelves can be heavy, and that weight adds up quickly. Baskets are a much lighter option. Plus, everything will fall off of a shelf!

15. Install New Upholstery to Update Your Camper or RV

Most campers are going to come with pretty boring upholstery on the dining booth and other seating areas. Reupholster your living space with a pattern of your choosing. Bright colors help liven up a camper. This should also fit into the décor and theme of your camper.

16. Decorate Your Camper Trailer with a Coffee Mug Set

If you’re camping, you should be enjoying a cup of coffee in the sunrise every morning. A mug set is a great way to show your personality in something that will be useful every day. If your camper is going to be stationary for a while, set up a display so that your mugs can be decorative and functional.

17. Paint the Exterior of Your RV, Travel Trailer or 5th Wheel

Exterior Travel Trailer Paint

While there’s plenty of decorating to be done on the inside the camper, the exterior is what everyone else sees. A simple stripe down the side of a plain camper can really add style to your camper. Be careful about going too overboard on the outside. Sometimes simple is better.

18. Spruce Up Your RV Bathroom with a Decorative Shower Curtain

If your shower curtain at home isn’t boring, why should your camper shower curtain have to be? A decorative shower curtain is a great way to personalize your bathroom without a big investment. Pick out a curtain that matches the towels you have for the bathroom.

19. Install A Custom Neon Sign to Create Your Personalized Space

Custom neon signs create a warm and cozy lighting atmosphere for your RV. Customize your favorite quotes or words of passion to hang in your RV’s bedroom or on the walls and experience what feels like home. No matter where you are or what time of day it is you have a colorful light that illuminates you like a real home.

Extra Tips For Decorating Your Travel Trailer or RV

Choose a Theme and Stick With It

Choose a theme for decorating the interior of your camper. Themes give the space a personal touch and homey feel. Campers are a small space, so if you want to go with a theme, keep that theme consistent throughout the camper. Keep your theme in mind when choosing colors, wall decals, towels, throw pillows, etc.

Add Storage to Your RV or Travel Trailer While Adding Decorations at the Same Time

Why choose form over function when you can have both! Added storage is always a plus in a camper. When you hit the road, it’s best to have everything tucked away. This way, you don’t worry about things moving around while driving. Think about how your decorating can also incorporate some form of storage. Add storage compartments under the bed or under couch cushions, for example. This is a great way to tuck items out of the way until you need them.

Having a customized space on the road makes your RV or travel trailer feel like your own. No matter where you go, you always feel like you are in your home away from home. Happy Decorating!

Is it really okay to paint the interior?!?

Yup it sure is…

We feel like we have a hotel on wheels so we call it our Mobile Marriott. Since it’s our third one we abbreviate it as MM III.

I love to put up the beautiful written peel and stick Wall decals. I buy mine from dollar tree! Now I think they’re $1.25. But they have stayed up on the doors for about three or four years now. Light on the walls and light on the Wallet!

Great ideas. Thank you

Great article Mike & Susan. Gotta get me one of those wicker baskets. 🙂

I just aquired a 1971 open road my son and I are planning on fixing it up, so you’re ideas help allot. We’ve already decided to call it Dessert Rose, so the inside theme will be southwestern.

I’m curious about the couch in the picture. We’re considering ditching the couch that came with our RV in favor of something more comfortable. Where did y’all find that? Thanks!

Love the great ideas about decorating a travel trailer, I am thinking of doing some of these and thank you for the great suggestions.

Glad you liked the article!

This RV owner likes boats. They chose a bold wallpaper to represent this. Adding wallpaper can take a space and change its vibe quickly. Pops of geometric patterns, flower prints, or even plaids can add color with little effort.

25 Beautiful RV Decorating Ideas (for Interior, bedroom, kitchen, etc) 2

This delicate flowery pattern adds femininity without being overwhelming. It reflects a sweet, pure, quiet environment. This is a place I would love to read a book on a spring day.

25 Beautiful RV Decorating Ideas (for Interior, bedroom, kitchen, etc) 3

Adding wallpaper or sticky tile to a backsplash can be a wow for minimal effort. Backsplashes are a great design feature. Choose materials that are easy to clean and resist heat and oils for the best results.

25 Beautiful RV Decorating Ideas (for Interior, bedroom, kitchen, etc) 4

Decide what walls you want to wallpaper, and remember less is more in small confined spaces. Most RV walls are safe to wallpaper, but a sample test will help you decide on the print and material compatibility.

25 Beautiful RV Decorating Ideas (for Interior, bedroom, kitchen, etc) 5

Adding wallpaper to the front of a step up into your bedroom or 5th wheel can add character and look expensive.

25 Beautiful RV Decorating Ideas (for Interior, bedroom, kitchen, etc) 6

The interior of an RV is a compact space packed with furniture and essentials, so it’s best to avoid large walls and dark-colored or busy patterns. It may be time to ditch the dark browns for lighter colors to create the illusion of space. White or light-toned wallpaper usually works best for campers and RVs. Check out this before and after.

25 Beautiful RV Decorating Ideas (for Interior, bedroom, kitchen, etc) 7

Every amateur decorator knows that you can add pops of color, whimsy, and philosophy with just a few throw pillows. No matter your personal style, there is a throw pillow that will reflect it.

25 Beautiful RV Decorating Ideas (for Interior, bedroom, kitchen, etc) 8

Remember to add pillows in moderation. When you want to use your dinette seats, pull-out sofa, or even your bed, those pillows have to go somewhere, and space is limited. Pick patterns, colors, or phrases that you love and bring you joy.

25 Beautiful RV Decorating Ideas (for Interior, bedroom, kitchen, etc) 9

Throw Pillows can be changed with your mood. Funny expressions, vibrant colors, and even holiday pillows can be added and removed. I like to buy pillow shams so that the slips not used can stay on the pillows and just switch around. Storage issue averted.

25 Beautiful RV Decorating Ideas (for Interior, bedroom, kitchen, etc) 10

Everything you can do to add storage is a great idea. When you purchase an RV, you may look around and be so pleased with all the storage it offers, but I promise you will always need a little more. Baskets and bins are a great way to decorate and add organization.

25 Beautiful RV Decorating Ideas (for Interior, bedroom, kitchen, etc) 12

Organizing food into bins can be very helpful. As a 5’ 4” person, I find it challenging to reach those top shelves even with a small stool. Having bins that you can pull out for spices can be a lifesaver or at least a fall saver. I wholly recommend bins.

25 Beautiful RV Decorating Ideas (for Interior, bedroom, kitchen, etc) 13

Baskets control the clutter and add homey touches. Need a nightstand but do not have room, hang a basket. You can find baskets in various styles and sizes. Fitting baskets into your decor is easy.

25 Beautiful RV Decorating Ideas (for Interior, bedroom, kitchen, etc) 14

This wire basket is perfect for spices besides the stove. It adds storage and keeps things tidy, which keeps you from feeling claustrophobic. Because of the small space, it feels even smaller when an RV has clutter.

25 Beautiful RV Decorating Ideas (for Interior, bedroom, kitchen, etc) 15

The bathroom is the smallest area of most RVs and campers. It also needs lots of storage. Usually, there is very little room in the bathroom vanity to store more than a towel or maybe two. Hanging baskets on the towel bar adds storage for all those bathroom must-haves like hair and makeup products.

25 Beautiful RV Decorating Ideas (for Interior, bedroom, kitchen, etc) 16

These wire bins are a great way to keep clutter corralled in a bathroom. It also makes it easy for guests to find necessities.

25 Beautiful RV Decorating Ideas (for Interior, bedroom, kitchen, etc) 17

Curtains can be a bold focal point in an RV space without seeming like the room is closing in. Curtains can add texture and color without adding to the busyness of the room.

25 Beautiful RV Decorating Ideas (for Interior, bedroom, kitchen, etc) 18

Hanging fabric to divide and define spaces can make your RV feel cozier. Sometimes a curtain is needed for privacy, and sometimes it is required to block light for better sleep.

25 Beautiful RV Decorating Ideas (for Interior, bedroom, kitchen, etc) 19

You can also use fabric to hide unsightly storage. Not everything fits into baskets and bins. Hanging fabric on this bottom bunk can create hidden storage or private sleeping quarters.

25 Beautiful RV Decorating Ideas (for Interior, bedroom, kitchen, etc) 20

When using a theme to decorate, fabric can be an easy solution. You can find fabrics in thousands of colors, prints, textures, and thicknesses on the internet and at your door the next day.

25 Beautiful RV Decorating Ideas (for Interior, bedroom, kitchen, etc) 21

Don’t forget your shower curtain when you are considering your decorative style. This is another DIY or purchase that can reflect any style, theme, or notion. Even if your shower has a door, you can add a pop of color to the side to soften the whole look.

25 Beautiful RV Decorating Ideas (for Interior, bedroom, kitchen, etc) 22

Fabric patterns can be mixed to add interest. These pieces of red, green, and white prints coordinate perfectly for a vintage feel. The most important thing is for you to love it.

25 Beautiful RV Decorating Ideas (for Interior, bedroom, kitchen, etc) 23

A quick and easy weekend project can be trading dated knobs and pulls in for newer or themed ones. Also, pegs and hooks can add storage without losing style. This decorator uses a deer rack to hang essential items.

25 Beautiful RV Decorating Ideas (for Interior, bedroom, kitchen, etc) 24

Updated cabinet hardware can quickly transform your RV look with little effort or know-how needed. This trick works even if you choose to paint your cabinets or not.

25 Beautiful RV Decorating Ideas (for Interior, bedroom, kitchen, etc) 25

Hooks can be practical and needed. Very useful in an entrance, hooks can be installed to corral everyone’s shoes. This is a genius idea.

25 Beautiful RV Decorating Ideas (for Interior, bedroom, kitchen, etc) 26

Hooks in the kitchen can display your cookware or utensils. This puts things at your fingertips but also adds decor.

25 Beautiful RV Decorating Ideas (for Interior, bedroom, kitchen, etc) 27

Pegboards can be added to a wall or even a storage bin to help with optimizing and organizing spaces. This is a great way to organize all the tools in a small area that can get cluttered quickly, and you can lose tools into the abyss.

25 Beautiful RV Decorating Ideas (for Interior, bedroom, kitchen, etc) 28

Changing fixtures can be a noticeable transformation in the look and feel of an RV and its function. Sometimes RV manufacturers overlook the need for a tall faucet for washing dishes. And most of us like a shower head that can handle water pressure and has a massage feature.

25 Beautiful RV Decorating Ideas (for Interior, bedroom, kitchen, etc) 29

This bathroom fixture transformation makes a big difference in eye appeal and feels more like a spa than a small RV shower. Whether you live full-time in your camper or just on weekend getaways, who doesn’t like a great shower.

25 Beautiful RV Decorating Ideas (for Interior, bedroom, kitchen, etc) 30

Lovely fixtures can add a modern, sleek finish. It feels expensive and tranquil. Bathrooms that are frequently visited should be comfortable and clean.

25 Beautiful RV Decorating Ideas (for Interior, bedroom, kitchen, etc) 31

This outdated bathroom sink remodels added the feel and look of luxury. The bathroom can be a place to add nice touches to add value if resale is an option.

25 Beautiful RV Decorating Ideas (for Interior, bedroom, kitchen, etc) 32

Rugs are a great way to express your personal style. This decorator added an Aztec pattern to make it have a southwestern feel. Rugs can be replaced or changed frequently and quickly. I tend to get tired of looking at the same things, so I redo or rearrange often.

25 Beautiful RV Decorating Ideas (for Interior, bedroom, kitchen, etc) 33

This example shows a soft filigree motif to brighten a dark brown interior. It adds a stark difference to its background, making it the room’s feature.

25 Beautiful RV Decorating Ideas (for Interior, bedroom, kitchen, etc) 34

Rugs and corresponding pillows can add themes. Here we have a striped pattern displayed with the added stylized pillows in complimentary colors. The lines draw your eyes to the pillows and comfy sofa.

25 Beautiful RV Decorating Ideas (for Interior, bedroom, kitchen, etc) 35

Open shelves are a trendy design now. There are not many surfaces to decorate in a camper due to space, so adding a shelf or open shelving can be a great way to display items you love or dishes.

25 Beautiful RV Decorating Ideas (for Interior, bedroom, kitchen, etc) 36

These Boho shelves give this small space a sense of openness that closed cabinets could not attain. I love the neutral colors and textures.

25 Beautiful RV Decorating Ideas (for Interior, bedroom, kitchen, etc) 37

This tiny shelf adds dimension and detail to a plain kitchen window. It is the perfect place for a pop of color and personality. It even adds a bit of privacy without adding a curtain or valance.

25 Beautiful RV Decorating Ideas (for Interior, bedroom, kitchen, etc) 38

This beautiful vintage crocheted afghan was probably the inspiration for this hombre design. It is gorgeous and coordinated perfectly. It makes you want to curl up with a good book.

25 Beautiful RV Decorating Ideas (for Interior, bedroom, kitchen, etc) 39

Notice this example of a neutral background with the only color coming in the throws and pillows. The style of this whole room can be transformed into any color or pattern you wish in a few minutes. I love the versatility.

25 Beautiful RV Decorating Ideas (for Interior, bedroom, kitchen, etc) 40

This RV owner mixed beige and gray for a modern color scheme but added a lovely soft, snuggly blanket to soften those lines and colors.

25 Beautiful RV Decorating Ideas (for Interior, bedroom, kitchen, etc) 41

Mixing more than one complimentary throw can be an excellent way to add textures, and a soft throw adds a comfortable accent.

25 Beautiful RV Decorating Ideas (for Interior, bedroom, kitchen, etc) 42

A black framed monotone picture can make a focal point on a white wall. It can add inspiration and a trendy farmhouse look.

25 Beautiful RV Decorating Ideas (for Interior, bedroom, kitchen, etc) 43

Mixed frames and pictures work perfectly with Boho, whimsy, or eclectic designs. My only requirement for decor is that I love it. It must bring me joy when you have many things to keep clean or dust. That does not bring me joy.

25 Beautiful RV Decorating Ideas (for Interior, bedroom, kitchen, etc) 44

Framed or not, words of humor or inspiration can add a relaxed, homey feeling. It will help you make your RV inviting to family and guests. It also reveals a bit of personality, which can be significant.

25 Beautiful RV Decorating Ideas (for Interior, bedroom, kitchen, etc) 45

This is one of my favorite finds! Turkish towels solved a couple of problems for me. One, it is so much thinner than a regular towel, so storage was a lot easier to manage and the second is my RV has a washer and dryer combo, but they are small. Washing 6 traditional towels would take me 2-3 loads. I can wash all 6 of my towels in one wash with Turkish towels. And they look great hanging in a bathroom.

These are my favorites. They dry and are very absorbent and dry quickly.

These towels also conserve water by hanging them to dry and reuse. We each have our own towel and hanger. I also think these are so pretty when displayed.

You can find them in neutral or coordinating colors. They look expensive and luxurious without being. These towels are comparable to cheap towels but with higher quality.

25 Beautiful RV Decorating Ideas (for Interior, bedroom, kitchen, etc) 48

When you are using traditional towels, a wine rack can display them neatly. Many use this trick in their RV and their homes also. It is an excellent way to add color and texture. They can also be changed when you change your colors.

25 Beautiful RV Decorating Ideas (for Interior, bedroom, kitchen, etc) 49

This is one of my favorite updates or decorating tips. Changing your lighting fixtures is the perfect way to update or change your look. It can also be challenging. When changing your fixture, please remember to check the voltage and replace it accordingly.

25 Beautiful RV Decorating Ideas (for Interior, bedroom, kitchen, etc) 50

I love this chandelier. It has an expensive but rugged, simple look. It matches the design of this RV. I love the stark difference between white and black. With this canvas, you could pop any color you want and change it on a whim.

25 Beautiful RV Decorating Ideas (for Interior, bedroom, kitchen, etc) 51

This is a genius idea when you cannot change your fixture. You can update those fixtures with details like a basket.

25 Beautiful RV Decorating Ideas (for Interior, bedroom, kitchen, etc) 60

Mirrors can be an RVers best friend if you need to feel like you need the space to feel more prominent or even lighter. When mirrors reflect light, it tricks your eyes into seeing double the space and light. If your camper uses a lot of dark browns, mirrors can be just what you need.

25 Beautiful RV Decorating Ideas (for Interior, bedroom, kitchen, etc) 61

Adding vinyl lettering and images has become a popular way to label, decorate, and add personality. I love this welcome chandelier added to this door. It is so inviting.

25 Beautiful RV Decorating Ideas (for Interior, bedroom, kitchen, etc) 68

Lettering can be added to a dining table. This would be a great place to put family names, camping recipes, or even websites for takeout.

Ok, let’s admit that sometimes RV furniture is not the most comfortable. Don’t be afraid to change out your furniture for traditional pieces. I ditched a sofa for a couple of small recliners because it made more sense for our family.

Also, if you want to impress your neighbors, you can accessorize your outside area to match your rig and show off your personality.

25 Beautiful RV Decorating Ideas (for Interior, bedroom, kitchen, etc) 78

Bedding is essential to me. When I lay down, I want to lay down in a cushy bed with a soft, comfy blanket that feels like a luxury hotel. Sheets are nothing to skimp on, even in your camper.

Succulents can be grown just about anywhere. They are also very hardy and easy to take care of. This hoop and succulent combo are charming.

If you choose hanging plants, they can be hung inside or out, depending on the weather. They can brighten up your entry or your living area.

Revamping countertops has become easier with better options than replacing them. You can use vinyl as they have here. It is very durable and doable with thicker professional vinyl.

You can also recover the countertops with a sheet of Formica veneer like they did in this video.

The new countertops look amazing, but it does require a bit of skill.

Painting your countertops with a special paint made expressly for that purpose is the option that takes the least amount of talent and money.

I love this 50’s teal! The white with black and some copper is classy, but the pop of teal makes it fun. These teal touches could easily be changed to yellow or red without too much thought.

25 Beautiful RV Decorating Ideas (for Interior, bedroom, kitchen, etc) 87

Here is that teal with the fore mentioned yellow and red. I know it is a little much for some, but I love it. It reminds me of the 50s and my granddaughter’s dollhouse. It is so sweet.

This design makes me think back to camping as a child. These are the patterns and colors that accompanied those campouts at the river. It makes me miss my grandmother.

There is nothing that will change a look faster than paint. It can also be the best bang for your buck. It will take patience and many coats, but the result is worth it.

25 Beautiful RV Decorating Ideas (for Interior, bedroom, kitchen, etc) 90

Most campers and RVs start with wallpaper. I have painted wallpaper, and it is doable, but it will take you four or five coats. There is a coating and paste on wallpaper that will require many coats. Patience is key. The painting will not be a quick fix.

25 Beautiful RV Decorating Ideas (for Interior, bedroom, kitchen, etc) 91

Painting cabinets can be rewarding. I love the white at the top contrasted with the black on the bottom cabinets. Cabinets like RV wallpaper will take many coats, even with a good primer.

I picked this example because of the stark difference displayed from everything else I have seen. I don’t know if I could live in this style, but I would love to camp in it for a weekend. It is beautiful.

Paint isn’t just for the inside of a camper. You can paint the outside too. I know this rig gets eyed everywhere it goes. It would make me want to see the inside. Anyone who paints their camper this way is begging for company.

25 Beautiful RV Decorating Ideas (for Interior, bedroom, kitchen, etc) 94

You can see the drastic difference white can make in a small space before and after. It looks so clean and open. The focal point becomes the accents you add that bring you joy.

25 Beautiful RV Decorating Ideas (for Interior, bedroom, kitchen, etc) 95

Look at this pastel mint on the bottom cabinets with the floral rug. It is so precious. It is just enough color to give the room some depth. We have to mention how the gold hardware sets it all off.

Decorating your RV or camper can be a lot of fun. The most important thing is to make it feel like a vacation or holiday. When it is designed and decorated to be comfortable and inviting, you will want to use it more often. If like me, you are a full-time RVer, you know that comfort and function trump all. Everything has to have a purpose or function because the space is tiny.

Clutter is not your friend. I have chosen this minimalistic lifestyle because I do not want to collect stuff but memories. I do not wish to dust daily, so I do not have a lot of decor sitting around. I have a pretty large RV, but I still discard things that are not useful or do not bring me joy. Cleaning does not bring me joy. My life is about the moments that bring me joy and having more of them.

30 Stylish Camper Decor Ideas From RV Pros That Will Transform Your RV

File this under the category of good problems to have. You have a camper. You have some dreamy camper decor ideas. But you don’t want to spend hours of your time to DIY and Pinterest everything. We all want that swoon-worthy, modern RV, right? The one that makes your original RV interior unrecognizable – like the picture above. Me too.

But truth be told, we have a long list of how we want to spend our time, and lengthy hours of RV renovation isn’t exactly at the top. That said, maybe you want to add some personality. Just with the least amount of effort. You know, the things that take basically no time, but make an impact.

By the way, we can’t take credit for all these ideas. Some were born out of our own scrappiness. But others come from our fellow RVers that have some super great ideas. Camper decor ideas too efficient not to pass along.

30. A Pretty Little Rug

Peel and stick tile can transform a shower or kitchen in a snap. The Southern Glamper used it and whoa, does it make a difference. The before/after pictures prove how backsplash can make small RV spaces light, bright, and airy. Couldn’t agree more. Peel and stick tiles are affordable, super quick to install, and make a big impact. One of the simplest upgrades you can make to your camper.

They take 2 seconds to hang and totally give off farmhouse vibes. Ground breaking, right? One of the best ways to maximize space in a tiny home is by making the most of your walls. We purchased several of these toy storage baskets and use them everywhere. Yes, they are toy storage baskets. And yes, if you have kids, they will do just that: store toys. But they also work great in the kitchen for fruit and veggie storage. Electronics storage. Keeping clutter at bay. The options are kind of endless here.

3. No Sew Cushion Covers

One of the biggest eyesores for your camper – likely the cushions. They always come in that standard RV brown. You can add so much personality by switching out the cushion fabric. Except, doing that is typically 1) time consuming or 2) expensive. Luckily, Married to a Mowery found a clever no sew option that you can do in minutes. Three simple items – choose your own fabric.

4. Mix and Match Colors and Patterns – But Keep Them Complementary

Adding splashes of color and dropping in some textures can make for dramatic effect. But the key is to make sure everything complements one another. The Tidbits website shows that simple color and design selections can make all the difference. Their triple bunks pack a lot of personality punch, but in a tasteful modern way. When purchasing your accessories, look for fun colors and patterns that match the rest of your decor.

5. Add Some Letters

Another great way to show personality: with your words. The Happy Glamper has an awesome tutorial to make a DIY Letter Ledge. It’s gorgeous, modern, and unique. If you want the fast approach, you can buy pre-made ledges and letters (or the ever classic letterboard). Change out the phrases every so often and boom – instant refresh.

6. Make Coffee Part of Your Decor

Coffeepots that aren’t bulky AF. One of the camper decor ideas we applied to our own setup. We got the Chemex pour over coffeemaker . It’s dual purpose – it makes coffee (the obvious), but it also looks super elegant on your countertop. It’s also still functional if you’re camping with no electric hookups. Just don’t forget to stow it before you drive off.

It’s amazing what a simple throw pillow will do. Figure out what aesthetic you’re going for and then get some throw pillows to match. @heads.east.tails.west is the perfect example of how adding some color pops and textures with your pillows can make a huge difference. Can’t get enough of the mix of patterns, textures, and colors that all seem to go perfectly together.

Save space by repurposing your wall for knife storage. @the.wild.fortenberrys has some enviable RV inspo, including the modern magnetic knife holder. Clever hack – they even use theirs to store tools while in use. But more importantly, magnetic knife holders are known to be a more hygienic way to store knives than the knife blocks, which can get wet and harbor bacteria.

Mirrors can always make a place look fancier and they make small spaces look bigger (a major plus when you’re living in a tiny home). This bedroom mirror from @prvbsthirtyonegirl has major gold vibes that blends well with the other fixtures. Plus, it utilizes space that otherwise may go to waste. If you want to spiffy a place up, add a mirror. One of the easiest RV decor ideas you can incorporate into your space. But packs a punch.

Our own invention that was largely born out of the need for a cutting board (without wanting to give up space for a cutting board). We built a wooden stove cover that doubles not only as a cutting board, but extra counter space. Why waste precious space when you can capitalize on it while your stove isn’t in use. It also can add to the visual appeal. Easy to make, but you can also buy one .

Plants can freshen up just about any space. This is a quick win if you’re low on time. Buy a plant or two and it will immediately add some warmth to your tiny home. @theflippintilbys is a family of 7 living out of an RV and they crushed the decorating game. They used a snake plant to liven up their space. We’re suckers for snake plants.

One trend that can transform an area in a hurry is a chalkboard. Flaunt your personality while showing off those rustic vibes (fitting for a camper, right?). @ourlifeonlaketime used chalkboard paint for their fridge and we’re now convinced everyone should be chalkboard painting their fridges.

I think we can all agree those terrible lights that come standard in most RVs are…less than desirable. It may take more than a few minutes to completely change those out. But if you don’t want to invest the time, get string lights or fairy lights instead. Take @purposeblog for example – their lighting game is on point and they show how string lights can be added to kick your space up a notch.

Saw this little corner coffee area from @wearethehawleys and couldn’t be more in love. Their tip is to update your camper’s hardware for a fast and easy camper decor idea. It will revitalize the room, making your little home modern and chic – without too much effort.

Whether you choose to post all of your adventures on social media or not, naming your camper is a rite of passage for your new home. We got some basic letter stickers and displayed our RV’s name in all her glory. It’s a fun personal touch and a chance to get creative. And if you do post your adventures, hit us up @familyonstandby so we can be friends. And so we can sneak a peak at all of your camper decor ideas.

One of the biggest focal points in your camper just so happens to be one of the easiest things to change: the windows! Or rather, the window treatments. You were probably supplied with a perfectly plain shade, which means…there’s a lot of room for improvement. We’re partial to this window treatment from @phillyjawnsgooutdoors because 1) they have the same camper as us and 2) we can’t get over how awesome it looks. But also because, their window shades totally match the aztec vibe and it all works together.

If you just can’t stand those plain RV lights that come standard, but you don’t have the time to switch out all the bulbs and hardware, chandelier to the rescue. We came across this DIY yarn chandelier from @rv.family.reno . It disguises the original lighting and adds a little glamour to your setup. But if you’re not totally keen on DIYing your own chandelier, you can always buy a similar one on Etsy – making this one of the faster camper decor ideas.

Lighten up those walls with some cheery wallpaper. We love the adventure themed wallpaper @5th_wheel_fam chose for their bunk area. It’s fun and colorful. If hanging wallpaper the old fashioned way doesn’t sound super appealing, I feel you and you’re in luck. Peel and stick wallpaper. Cut, peel, stick. Done!

19. Curtains For More Than Just Windows

Whether you have a separate bedroom, or you want to create your own makeshift bedroom (like us), curtains can be a great room divider and alternative to regular ol’ doors. These pink curtains/room dividers from @leeannieblivin are not only functional, they add to the style. We used the same concept to create a master bedroom area in our one room camper, but now I’m thinking maybe pink curtains are the way to go.

20. Use Decorative Towels

Who knew something as simple as bath towels could make a strong design statement? @wearedanandsam use Turkish towels in their bathroom and we’re in love. They totally complement the vibe. And if you’re not ready to part ways with your fluffy bath towels, you can always squirrel them away somewhere for non display purposes.

You can put art there? Behind the bathroom faucet. Apparently, @rvfixerupper does and other people who know how to energize a room. If you want to liven up your space with art, try placing it in some unconventional spots. It’s a great use of space and it will give your room new life. Plus, it’s easy to switch different art in and out whenever you need a change.

22. Blankets Are Decor Too

If you need an excuse to buy just one more blanket, this is it. The simple act of throwing a blanket on your couch or bed can transform the room. We love how @twinning_in_our_5thwheel uses blankets to accessorize. They are perfectly matched to the color scheme and add texture to the space. A big fan here.

If you have kids, good luck getting this one to stick. But it’s worth a shot. @the_ramblr_rv uses a patterned tablecloth and pair of placemats to kick their table decor up a notch. I almost want to set the table for once.

The most festive of our camper decor ideas – bring on the holiday cheer. Whatever the holiday, your little home on wheels is the perfect canvas. @allisongoesplaces knocked it out of the park with their winter wonderland. This doesn’t even look like an RV, it’s so good. *Instantly falls in love with that fireplace*

25. Give Your Front Door a Facelift

Why stop at the interior if you can create some serious curb appeal right outside the front door? The most obvious design choices here involve a welcome mat and some kind of wreath. But @slo.gathered.home took it a step further by adding a hanging planter on their awning. Genius! Also, we just recently discovered Etsy designers have some of the coolest plants . So that’s another thing we’re in love with.

26. If All Else Fails, Spray Paint Your Countertops

So…just learned spray painting countertops is a thing – mind blown. Thanks to some brilliant design inspo from @flippingfarrell , you can revitalize your kitchen counter without a massive overhaul. All you need is a little stone coat spray paint – with a coat of epoxy for good measure. It looks upscale. It’s affordable. And it won’t take nearly the time investment as removing old countertops and completely replacing.

27. Use the Fancy Command Hooks

One of the things you’ll quickly discover as an RV owner – command hooks are the solution to everything. They can be used for basically any scenario and if you’re like us, you’ll be buying them in bulk. But , the key is to splurge on the decorative command hooks . Exaggerating a little bit here, because they don’t cost much more than the standard white ones. But they will look a heck of a lot better and this is one of the easiest upgrades you can make. In this example from RV Inspiration , command hooks are used to hold up curtains!

Shiplap is a trendy way to up your design game. But, heavy wood planks don’t always translate well into RV life when lighter is often better. Enter shiplap wallpaper. Not only is it super lightweight since it’s paper, it’s much quicker to hang. @barefootdetour used it in their camper remodel (behind the fun copper cups) and it adds texture to the space – without actually adding texture…if that makes sense.

29. Shelving to Keep Clutter Off Tables and Counters

Guilty confession…if we don’t have a spot for everything, it will find a home on our kitchen table. We can’t be the only ones with a kitchen table that doubles as a mailbox, right? Our solution, make sure everything has a spot so it can’t pile up all over. Called to Wander uses simple ikea shelves over the sink for their soaps, which keeps them off the countertops. Any chance you get to put up some shelving, do it! It can add to the decor while keeping clutter at bay.

Rugs can make a space. They add color, texture, pattern, and are never a bad idea. Finding the perfect rug can be difficult for a camper, especially a small camper when space is at a minimum. But when you find it, that rug will complete your look. @ourvanquest uses a rug in front of their sink and it’s perfectly sized for the space. A stylish addition to your design that’s as easy as shopping on Amazon.

If you’re anything like us, the idea of remodeling an RV is just plain overwhelming. Never ending projects. You’re already busy. Maybe kids are running around and it’s impossible to get anything done. You are most certainly not alone. We’re right there with you and that’s why we looked for only the camper decor ideas that can be done in short order. Like an hour or less. We felt all these ideas fit the bill while making an impact. But we want to hear from you.

20 Best Ways to Decorate Travel Trailer

20 Best Ways to Decorate Travel Trailer

  • BEGINNERS GUIDE

As you’re cruising down the highway, you look at your travel trailer and think, “I don’t know how much longer I can live like this!” You may even ask yourself, “Why do I even own this thing?”

If you’re like most people, your travel trailer is your home away from home. And just like your regular home, you want it to be comfortable, stylish, and inviting.

Decorating a travel trailer

While decorating can take time, making a few changes can really transform the feel of your trailer in no time at all. Check out these 20 tips for decorating your travel trailer:

1. Decorate with a Wallpaper

The idea of wallpaper in a travel trailer may seem overkill, but there are many great patterns available for this space that will give your home a more finished look.

One of the benefits of using wallpaper on the walls is that you can always change it up when you want to switch things up! You might even consider matching the design with some other accents in your trailer.

2. String some lights around the ceiling

Add some string lights around the ceiling of your trailer if you don’t have any. You’ll be surprised how much light they actually provide – just be sure not to hang them too close, or they’ll get hot and melt something!

It’s also a good idea to find out what type of bulbs are best suited for use inside the trailer before hanging them. Check with your local hardware store before buying anything online.

3. Cover those ugly window blinds

Are you still rocking those old-school window coverings? Stop now and invest in some curtains. There are so many different styles available these days, including sheer curtains, which allow natural light to filter through while providing privacy from outside viewers.

If you’re looking for an inexpensive option, try cutting an old bed sheet into panels and hemming each side. Hang one panel across the top of the window and another across the bottom to create a cool effect.

4. Paint small objects (or big ones) white

You can easily add some personality to your trailer by painting any small items white. Anything from picture frames, clocks, chairs, etc., can instantly be transformed with this easy update.

Painting bigger items, such as tables and beds, is a little trickier since you need to tape off the edges. But you can either do it yourself or hire someone else to do it for you.

Be sure to paint everything with a primer first, then paint all sides evenly. Let dry completely before removing the masking tape; otherwise, you could mess up your freshly painted surfaces.

If you’re working on larger pieces, use chalk paint instead of latex paint to achieve a distressed look. Just remember to sand and seal after the project is complete!

5. Upcycle furniture

Don’t waste money buying new furniture for your tiny trailer home! There are plenty of ways to spruce up existing pieces without breaking the bank. Start by stripping the old finish, sanding the wood down, and priming.

Choose a modern paint color to match your decorating style. Give everything two coats of paint, letting it dry thoroughly between coats. Afterward, distress the edges with steel wool.

You can purchase some of the supplies at your local hardware store, and once you’ve assembled your supplies, it should only take a few hours to do the whole job.

6. Create shelving units

Installing shelving units is a fantastic way to make your trailer feel more spacious. You can fill them with books, plants, or anything else you want! To build a shelf system, measure the distance between the floor and ceiling of your trailer in inches. Subtract your desired height of the shelves from this number.

Now, you’ll know the width and length of boards you’ll need to cut. Once you’ve measured your board, cut it in half and paint it before assembling your shelf unit. As for shelf decorators, you can use jars to store some of your favorite souvenirs.

Place them on the shelf and label them for easy identification. You can use anything from old cookie tins to recycled wine bottles. If you’re feeling ambitious, start a collection and see where it takes you!

7. Get creative with storage solutions

If you’re lucky enough to own a larger trailer, try adding a pantry or cupboard in an unused corner of the trailer. You can use this space to store food, dishes, or anything else you need.

You can also put a bookcase against one of the walls to maximize your living space. This will allow you to display your favorite knickknacks and curiosities.

8. Add artwork to your walls

Artwork can bring life to your trailer! If you want your trailer to feel cozy, look for artwork that evokes that feeling. If you want your trailer to look hip, pick out pieces of art in a color palette you love.

If you’re going for a traditional look, choose framed prints in an appropriate size. If you are trying to create a vintage vibe, try old photos of your family or friends.

You can also paint your favorite quotes on the wall, like this famous line from Oscar Wilde: If you want to live a happy life, tie it to a goal. This quote is especially appropriate for travelers. The options are endless when it comes to art!

9. Put in some plants and greenery

Bring the outdoors inside with some houseplants! Fill those awkward corners with plants for some much-needed color and curb appeal. A good rule of thumb is to have one plant per square foot.

But remember not to overcrowd; if there’s not enough sunlight, they won’t thrive. You might also want to consider indoor plants that help freshen the air. These plants can remove chemicals and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from the air.

One of the best plants for removing formaldehyde, benzene, and trichloroethylene is Dracaena marginata or Red-edge Dracaena.

If you’re looking for a low-maintenance option, succulents are great! They’re ideal for travel trailers because they require little to no water.

10. Add mirrors to the bathroom and bedroom

The first thing to do is decide whether you want a full-length or vanity mirror. It all depends on the layout of your trailer and what will be most convenient for you.

Full-length mirrors take up quite a bit of space but can provide the best light for makeup application. Vanity mirrors offer more lighting than full-length ones but don’t let you see your entire body at once. Plus, you’ll need to get a smaller mirror to hang on the back of the door.

11. Keep things clean with shower curtains

Shower curtains are essential in every trailer! Whether traveling or living full-time, shower curtains will keep your bathroom from getting too dirty.

Just remember to put something underneath if your trailer has a linoleum floor. Curtain liners can be expensive, but they’re worth it. They won’t fade as quickly as cheaper options, and they’ll make your bathroom look brand new again. If you want something even more affordable, consider canvas shower curtains!

12. Get a pop of color with pillows and throws

You can add color to your travel trailer in several ways, from throw pillows on your couch to an area rug. It’s a good idea to use a neutral or white couch so that you can mix in whatever colors you like for your pillows and throws.

Choose a colorful rug or splashy pillow if you want to avoid redecorating. You can also experiment with different patterns and textures as long as they go together.

DIY projects are a great way to save money and show off your personality if you’re working with a strict budget.

13. Install a ceiling fan or two

Many travel trailers come with a ceiling fan or two, but if yours doesn’t have one, you’ll want to ensure you get one. You’ll use it year-round for both cooling and heating purposes.

If you’re looking for a way to save money on heating, just turn your ceiling fan on high when you go to bed. Even on low, it can provide plenty of air circulation that will help keep things cool at night.

14. Cover your couch with a durable and easy-to-clean fabric

Many people find they want to change the upholstery on their couches, but this can be costly. Luckily, there are other ways to get a fresh new look without having to reupholster your furniture.

If you’re willing to spend a little time and effort, try making your own slipcovers! It’s not hard to sew a fitted slipcover from simple pieces of fabric. You’ll need a sewing machine, needle and thread, some heavy-duty staples, and about five hours of your time.

15. Put in a DVD player

Travel trailers usually come with TVs, but not always DVD players. So if you love watching movies while traveling (who doesn’t?), make sure to install one before you head out on the road.

This is especially important if you plan on using your TV screen as a computer monitor. If you already have a DVD player, it’ll probably work for your needs.

But if you want to play games or watch a Blu-Ray movie, you might want to invest in a more expensive model. Another option is to buy a small flat-screen TV and hook it up to your computer or gaming system.

16. Hang wicker baskets on the walls for storage

Instead of putting clothes and towels on your countertop, hang a few wicker baskets on your wall. This will free up space, and you can also store smaller items in them. If you’re worried about them falling, use screws to attach them to your trailer.

You could also use your wicker baskets for decor. Fill them with decorative items or throw in some fresh-cut flowers. It’s also a good idea to have at least one basket dedicated strictly to the clothes you wear while traveling.

This way, if you stay in a hotel, you’ll have somewhere safe to put your dirty clothes.

17. Flameless candles are perfect for your home away from home

Flameless candles can really set the mood and make your travel trailer feel like a true home. They are a great alternative to traditional candles because you don’t have to worry about burning your place down.

Plus, you won’t ruin your curtains if you forget to blow them out. However, they are not a complete replacement for real candles. If you want to set a romantic atmosphere or cook with food-scented candles, then traditional ones are the way to go.

18. Peel and stick floor tiles to cover your floors

If you’ve been dreaming of a custom floor, but are on a tight budget, think about covering your floors with peel and stick tiles. These tiles give off a seamless look and can be changed easily.

There are even peel and stick tile options that mimic wood flooring, so you won’t have to settle for anything less than what you really want. The only drawback is that these tiles can’t handle heavy use, so they’re best for occasional foot traffic.

If you want something that will last, consider installing vinyl or linoleum.

19. Adhere a rug to the floor with carpet tape

For many travelers, the thing they miss most about their homes is the feeling of walking barefoot on a soft rug. One solution is to create your own by adhering a rug to the floor with carpet tape.

You can do this by cutting a large piece of rug and taping it down in one section of your trailer. If you want to do the whole room, you’ll have to cut and tape several smaller areas together.

20. Finally, hang a welcome mat to greet your guests.

Most people don’t realize how much an uninviting doorway can deter visitors. To remedy this, just pick up a cheap mat and put it outside your door.

Not only does it make your trailer seem welcoming, but if you keep a mat inside, you’ll save yourself from tracking dirt and debris into your clean trailer.

Though you may be limited on space, there are plenty of ways to make your travel trailer feel like home. By adding personal touches and décor that reflect your style, you can create a space that is both comfortable and stylish. With a little creativity, your travel trailer can be a true oasis on the open road.

  • X (Twitter)
  • Pinterest 1.4K

Pinterest has become my go-to place for everything nowadays.  I especially love scrawling through and oohing and aahing over the creative RV decorating ideas (I think every RV owner does this.) I’m in complete and utter awe because I don’t have a CREATIVE BONE in my body.

Ask Frank and he’ll tell you that he is much more creative than I am, but together we won’t be called anytime soon for a HGTV show.  I have a friend who has that gene and I love visiting her home because it’s so beautiful and inviting. She understands color schemes and knows how to put them together.

Me – NOT SO MUCH!

I always tell her if we decided to settle down in a house again, she has to decorate it for me.

So if you’re like me and decorating is not one of your skill sets, these decorating ideas will help to make your RV a little more homey.

Are you ready?

I am going to show you ways that you can easily spruce up your RV with these easy renovation ideas, that will not only fit into your budget, but you will also have fun with the whole experience.

Thankfully in an RV, there is so little room that you don’t need very much to make it warm and cozy, a few pillows here and there, some of those beautiful hanging signs and voila, someone like me (and you) can spruce up their RV decor in no time and with little effort.

Now enjoy our RV decorating tips.

Table of Contents

Ways to make your rv decor feel more cozy, 1. use a theme.

Many RVers like to decorate using a theme. A theme adds a consistency throughout the RV and gives you a solid palette to work with. Take this simple monochrome theme from Our Van Quest. The basic black and white is elegant and simple, and leaves you with a lovely background to move in any direction as time passes by.

2. Add Color To Your RV Decor

Color can really make a place come to life. RV manufacturers tend to use fairly simple earthy tones inside, so some bright color can really brighten up your interior. Check out how these bright splashes in this image by The Virtual Campground brighten up the standard, dark RV interior.

3. Use Wall Coverings

There are a ton of wall coverings these days that can completely change the look and feel of your RV. From pegboard, maps, flower-wall, hanging wallpaper, souvenirs or MixTiles. The choices are endless depending on your own designs. Look at how the brick wall paper really brings home this gorgeous farmhouse design by Our Life On Lake Time.

4. Mixtiles

Mixtiles are a way to have your favorite images put on a lightweight foam backer ready to hang. We have made quite a few of these with our family photos from the road. They are super lightweight and have a peel and stick strip to mount easily on RV walls. I am a BIG FAN.

5. Try Some Shelving

Shelves are not only a great way to add storage space, but they can also add detail to your RV decor. Like these butcher block shelves by Must Love Camping. They match the countertops adding to the theme, provide a great spot for both kitchen storage, AND some nice decorations.

Just remember with open shelving, things will need to be stowed for travel days. So we have included a couple of options with bars to hold things in place. Stylish and practical!

Dress Up Your RV Bathroom

RV bathrooms tend to be small and cramped. There is not a lot of room for decor. Luckily there are a few good RV decorating hacks for the bathroom that will help make your tiny space more appealing. Wall art, a decorative shower curtain and a few knic knacks can make all the difference.

7. Add Some Fun Wall Word Art

Adding a bit of word art to your bathroom adds some whimsy to the place where you do your business. Make it fun!

10. fairy lights and candles.

Lighting can make all the difference in your bedroom. Try some of these creative ways to use lighting in your tiny home. Fairy lights and candles will add a fun personal touch.

I found these flameless candles last Christmas, I love ‘lighting’ them at night, they create a beautiful homey feel.  You can set a timer for the certain number of hours you want the candles on, this helps me to never forget to turn them off.

11. Rope Lights

A strand of rope lights, like fairy lights can add ambiance and feeling to your bedroom.  Rope lights are a bit sturdier than fairy lights and can give a beautiful effect. Double check the light color to get the effect you desire.

12. Lighting Fixtures

Changing your lighting fixtures to match your theme will be the perfect touch. There are so many available that you can always find just the right ones. Look how the antique fixtures finish off the rustic shiplap wallpaper headboard.

Most RVs these days come with LED lighting that runs off the 12v system, so make sure you match the voltage with new lighting.

13. shiplap boys room.

The one thing I don’t love about living in an RV is that my 8-year-old daughter doesn’t have a room of her own to decorate.

She loves nothing more than to decorate her room with anything she can – pipe cleaners, zoob pieces , artwork but her brother only lets her do so much because well he’s a boy and not so fond of ………pink.

She can, however, decorate her bunk any way she wants!.  We found these beautiful floral wall decals that she could put on her wall, they transform her side of the room into a little girls room.

So one side of the room we have a pink owl duvet set covered in stuffed animals and on the other side we have a camouflage bedset typical for a 9-year-old boy!

Both kids are happy = a happy mom!

RV Furniture comes in a particular style. You can really change the feel of your RV by switching out some pieces of furniture, or even recovering the RV couch. Check out this interior renovation with new furniture. The table is an Ikea table and each side folds down, so it is very versatile.

Sometimes replacing RV furniture with a piece of regular furniture can make a huge impact.

16. Throw Pillows, Rugs, Blankets

The details are everything in decorating. You can use a fairly basic pallette for your walls, furniture, etc, and then dress it all up with pillows (or pillow covers,) blankets, and rugs. These are also all easily changed to coincide with the seasons, holidays, or just a change in your mood.

Take the decor below from thedekkertrekkers for example. They have painted white on the walls, and an earthy brown on the cabinets and sofa. Then they have explosions of color and style with the finishing touches. It results in a fantastic looking space. I just love the furry throw blanket!

Here is another great example of using detains to brighten up a basic pallette by 188sqft. The renovation is a lovely white paint job with a splash of color in the cabinets. Then pillows, a blanket and rug are used with other details to complete the decor.

17. Window Treatments

Finding a great fabric and creating a new window treatment can really spruce up your space. See how the window coverings make all the difference in an otherwise fairly bland white template. When you hang curtains, you can really go in any direction. If you can sew, this can easily be one of those great diy projects.

A great table runner can really set off your decor. Add a spalsh of color, or tone down a bright setting. Look at this runner by Pier1. It is whimsical, and really makes the table pop.

19. Wall Art/ Hangings

Wall ha ngings can also do a lot to add flavor to your RV interior. Whether you are into country craft or a more modern touch, you can find wall hangings to accentuate your design. They can also add a nice splash of color if things are a bit monotone.

A lot of RVers have decals on their RV doors, I see them when we are walking by, I love that idea, our door is all window so we can’t have one, boo hoo.

20. Camping Coasters

Little things like coasters can brighten up your RV, these can be used indoors or outdoors.  I love all the pretty colors in these sets.

24. Paint Your Kitchen Cabinets

Painting some or all of your kitchen cabinets can have a HUGE impact on your overall design. Lets face it, the RV manufacturers do not exactly put the most exciting finishes on the kitchen cabinets, so we can just do it ourselves, like they did over at maggiesmakeovers. I would NEVER have the guts to paint my cabinets green, but WOW what a statement!

25. Plants and Herbs

2 thoughts on “Easy RV Decorating Ideas: 35 Ways to Spruce Up Your RV”

I have decorated my trailer in a number of ways. I added a wallpaper border to add some color to the walls of the main living space. On my first camper, I added peel and stick “tiles”. I have found that Velcro and command hooks are my friends. I use velcro to attach a flower arrangement in a plastic vase to a table top so it is secure at all times. The clock and other decor items are secured with Velcro on the walls. I can easily change the battery in the clock or change out the decor using the same Velcro on the wall. I attach Velcro to the remote to the tv and secure it to the tv when not in use so it doesn’t get misplaced. Command hooks attach my potholders, small cutting board, and other necessities to the walls where they can be easily accessed since I ran out of storage for these items. I grouped items together in dollar store baskets in storage areas, such as all the cleaning supplies, all the bug sprays and sunscreens, and all the trash and storage bags. I purposely look for small sized cleaning supplies at dollar tree or dollar general. In the dollar section of dollar general there are smaller versions of all purpose cleaner and bleach. In my bathroom, I have attached command hooks that are intended for broom and mop. I secure my broom and my “swiffer” type mop there. Thanks for your suggestions! I love reading about your organizational ideas. Do you know where to buy shower curtains for the rv? My trailer has a different tracking system than a normal shower!

Great suggestions Shelly! Velcro is definitely your best friend! We also used it on the back of our sofa cushions to keep them in place. Not sure on the shower curtain as our had a sliding door. Maybe check into Camping World?

Best Camper Decorating Ideas You Can Do Yourself

If you’re thinking about buying a new RV, you probably want to avoid decor that looks like it came from a stock RV decor store.

It’s almost always drab. Manufacturers tend to avoid decor that is too bold, so you’ll rarely find bright colors or eye-popping designs in stock RV decor.

The problem is that the end result is usually dull, and sometimes downright ugly.

Living in an RV doesn’t mean you have to settle for a bland home-on-wheels. You can do something about it.

You’ll find plenty of RV redecorating ideas that allow you to express your personal style and make your RV feel like home.

There are many fabulous RV decor ideas and tricks. Some of them are quick and easy, others require a bit more work, but all of them are worth it.

Here in this article, we will discuss fabulous RV decor and trick ideas. Continue reading to learn more.

Quick and Easy Camper Decorating Ideas

We’ll start by talking about some of our favorite travel trailer and motorhome decorating ideas.

We love to think outside the box when it comes to decorating and looking for cheap and easy decorating ideas can be a lot of fun.

With the right equipment, you can make your home a completely different place in a short period of time.

Choose a few of the options below and your mobile home will have a completely different feel in no time.

Paint the RV Interior Walls

decorating a travel trailer

There are many ways to decorate your camper, and painting your walls is one of them. Choose your color scheme, and you’ll create a personal touch that won’t weigh you down.

Smaller spaces like a camper can be made bigger by adding a few accents. Darker colors can make a small room feel larger.

Install Wall Decals Inside Your Camper Trailer

There are a lot of different options when it comes to wall decals, and you can make your own, or you can choose from a wide selection of pre-made designs.

Add Wallpaper and Maps to your RV

decorating a travel trailer

Another way to add color and flair to your camper is by hanging maps of places you’ve been.

You can choose some of your favorite places to decorate your walls with the maps. That way, no matter where you go, you’ll always have a map of where you’re going with you.

Add Throw Pillows

RV Interior Walls

Adding throw pillows to your RV bedroom or living space will make it more comfortable, and they look great too. Throw pillows are light, so you don’t have to worry about weight with extra pillows.

Use a theme for your throw pillows that match your camper design. These pillow covers are colorful and fun, and they’re also an easy and inexpensive way to add style to your camper.

Roll Out the Welcome Mat

decorating a travel trailer

Camping is a great way to see the world and experience nature. If you have your own camper, it makes for a great vacation spot.

But you need to be prepared for the challenges of camping and keep the dirt out of the camper.

You can also add this to your decorating theme.

Install New Cabinet Knobs in Your Trailer’s Kitchen and Bath

decorating a travel trailer

Installing cabinet knobs is easy to do, and you can find cabinet knobs and handles that you like at your local hardware store.

You might even want to invest in a few extra cabinet knobs and handles to give your camper a more finished look.

Don’t be afraid to mix up your decorating scheme. Small touches go a long way to making a place feel homey.

Cabinet handles don’t have to be boring. Pick something fun!

Install Hanging Wicker Baskets in Your Travel Trailer

Instead of building shelves, you can hang wicker baskets on the walls for added storage. These are great for bathroom items, pantry storage, and other room storage.

Shelves can be heavy, and that weight adds up quickly.

Baskets are much lighter than baskets, and they have no handles. Everything will fall off the shelves.

Install Bunk Beds to Gain Space for Your RV

Highland Bunkhouse

If you’re looking for a better way to get more space, take advantage of stacked beds. You’ll have more space to sleep and hang out with the family.

Plus, bunk beds can add a cozy cabin feel to your camper.

Install New Upholstery

Campers have a wide range of upholstery options, so there’s something for everyone. Choose a color that helps liven up the space, and keep in mind that bright colors are best for campers.

This would also fit in well with the décor and theme of your camper.

Paint the Exterior of Your RV, Travel Trailer or 5th Wheel

decorating a travel trailer

If you want to make your camper stand out, you should do more than just put a stripe down the side.

Go for something really cool and unique, like a cool mural. Don’t go too overboard, though.

Use Decorative Towels to Enhance the Look of Your RV Bathroom or Kitchen

decorating a travel trailer

Camping is a great way to get out in nature and experience the great outdoors. Why not add a little bit of fun and color to your campsite with decorative hand and dish towels?

You can choose fun patterns and designs to match your home décor.

Go with a Theme

If you want to have a fun and unique look in your tiny home-on-wheels, then you should pick a theme for your RV.

You can carry the theme throughout the RV with a themed bedspread and shower curtain.

You may have seen a few RVs with a theme, such as “beach” or “camping.” So if you aren’t sure where to begin your makeover, choosing a theme will be a fantastic idea.

Upgrade the Bathroom

If you’re going to be updating your camper, why not make it so that it looks like you’re camping in style? It’s easy to update your RV bathroom and give it a fresh, new look.

Replace the shower curtain and add a matching rug. Throw in a cute soap dispenser and/or toothbrush holder.

If you have the space, you should install a backsplash. It will make a huge difference and won’t require much of time investment or monetary investment.

Upgrade the Bedroom

decorating a travel trailer

When it comes to camper decor, the bedroom should not be left out of the fun. Changing the bedroom is one of the easiest and most inexpensive ways to change the look of your RV bedroom.

Headboards are not necessary in RVs and most of the time they’re not included in the price. So, if you want to add this to your bedroom, one of the best ways to do it is by adding a faux headboard.

Upgrade your Window Treatments

Window treatments are an important part of your tiny house. You’ll learn how to choose the best RV window treatments and what kind of RV window treatments are right for you.

The right window treatment is just as easy to install as it is to change. For an easy DIY option, try this no-sew curtain idea by Life With 4 Boys. We highly recommend the HOPPVALS cellular blinds by IKEA.

Upgrade your Lightning

Sure, all RVs are equipped with lights. However, most of those lights are pretty ugly. Fortunately, there are some decorative lights that can be installed on your RV, making it a little more attractive.

There are several decorative lighting options available that will add a great ambiance to your RV.

Fairy lights or Firefly lights are the perfect way to add a little magic to a room. They’re also great for calming you down after a long day at work.

Candle lanterns are a beautiful, warm option for lighting your home. They’re perfect for giving your home that warm glow of a candle, without the danger of actually burning down your house.

Rope lights are an easy way to add lighting to the inside of cabinets.

Simply string the lights along the back wall of the cabinet, then turn them on anytime you need to see the back corners of your storage space.

Upgrade the Furniture

It’s time to change out the furniture in your RV if it’s getting a little worn out. It won’t be a daunting task, but you’ll need to plan ahead.

Most RV furniture is relatively easy to remove. You’ll need only a few basic tools to do it, and you can add just about any type of furniture you want as long as you measure to make sure it will fit.

Still any questions? We have got answers for those. Below we have drafted some of the questions that people keep asking us. We have answered all those questions.

How can I decorate my RV?

With the ideas above, you’ve got a great start. But there are many other options when it comes to decorating your spot. You can do whatever you want with your own space.

You can add your own personal touches. You can use colors that work with your décor.

How do I brighten my RV?

Many RVs are pretty dark and drab, so if your RV needs a little brightening, try a few of the tips above to give it the look you want.

A new paint job or slipcover for your couch and some white curtains can really make a big difference.

How do you decorate a small camper?

If you’re considering camping with a small camper, decorating it can be tricky. You might not have much room to add decor to.

So, it might make more sense to focus on replacing rather than adding.

You can always replace the existing bedspreads, window coverings and shower curtains. Just be sure to stay away from adding extra wall decor, pillows, or lighting that could clutter the space.

How can I decorate my RV on a budget?

You can choose from a variety of RV decor ideas that are affordable, and still effective. It’s best to keep them simple and not spend a lot of money.

If you’re looking for deals, you should consider visiting discount stores such as Ross or TJ Maxx.

Wall hangings can be a fun way to decorate a room or office. They don’t have to be expensive and can be made with supplies you already have.

You may want to consider recovering your old furniture rather than buying new items.

Check out Home Depot or Habitat for Humanity for super cheap paint.

Extra Tips For Decorating Your Travel Trailer or RV

Find a Theme and Stick with It

Decorating the interior of your camper is a fun and easy way to make the space more personal and homey. It’s a small space, so it’s okay to choose a theme for the space.

When you have your theme in mind, it’s easier to choose the colors, wall decals, towels, and other accessories that go with your theme.

You can add storage to your RV or travel trailer while adding decorations at the same time.

If you’re looking for a camper that offers more storage than a traditional trailer or truck camper, this model is for you.

You’ll find extra room for things like camping gear and other things that you may need while traveling.

Decorating your home can also include storage. Under the bed, under the couch cushions, or in other nooks and crannies of the room, there are many ways to store items.

This is a great way to hide items and keep them out of the way until you need them.

When you customize your RV or travel trailer, you’ll have a space that feels like your own.

Whether you are traveling around the country, or you are off for an extended vacation, no matter where you are, you always feel like you are at home.

I hope this article has helped you in one way or another, and that you continue to find my blog useful.

I think it’s interesting to see how people use the space in a way that makes them happy, and helps them get the most out of their vehicles.

It’s a good thing too, because although RVs and trailers are the epitome of compact living , the old-school ones are not the epitome of stylish decor.

Camper and RV Decorating Ideas

1. add some color.

I love how these RV owners used lime green in their space. It looks fabulous! You can’t even tell it’s a living room on wheels.

When decorating your RV, pick two or three accent colors and use them consistently around your space, just like you would in your home.

A throw blanket, some accent pillows, a rug or two to warm up the floor – all of these small touches make a big difference in the look of your home on wheels.

Or…you can go all out and add color everywhere for an eclectic look like the Australian full-time RVers below.

I’m digging that tropical vibe! Whether you go bold or subtle in your RV decorating, a little color definitely makes the space more warm and inviting .

Throw pillows are an easy way to add some colorful touches in your RV decor. Buy pillow covers and inserts, then you can swap out the designs when you want to switch up your RV decor. And the pillow covers don’t take much space to store.

The covers below are 17.5″ and 18″ , so it’s recommended that you buy inserts that are 20″ to fill them out nicely. These pillow inserts are hypoallergenic and have great reviews.

2. When RV Decorating, Show your Personality

Talk about bold – this owner let her gypsy flag fly! Love it! Think of your RV or travel trailer as a blank canvas upon which you can splatter your charm .

Both of these travelers below went with a bohemian, earthy chic look which is fabulous too.

I love all the soft textures, especially the throw on the coffee table. They really soften the space.

If you collect things, bring a few of your collectibles and display them. If you love vintage, then deck your rig out retro style. Pinterest is full of adorable vintage themed travel trailers for inspiration, by the way.

If you’re into sports, Hollywood glam, cowboys, whatever… show it off in your home away from home and add some elements that demonstrate who you are.

3. Change the Curtains

This RV owner changed out the stock valance/curtain combo that you see in many RV decorating photos. I love the grommet curtains they used instead and the whole midcentury vibe going on there.

It’s an easy fix to dress up your windows with some curtains in a print or solid that works with your trailer or RV decor.

Grommet Curtains are a nice touch in rv decor

If you can’t find curtains you like, look for fabric that strikes your fancy. Then use hemming tape to make a “seam” on the sides and bottom (or use a sewing machine).

Next, use clip style curtain rings to attach the fabric to your rod. Easy peasy! I love these clip curtain rings – They turn ANY fabric into curtains so easily. Just make sure they are wide enough around to fit your rod.

Clip Curtain Rings are useful when decorating your travel trailer

If you are willing to tackle a small project, here’s a video tutorial for how to make some no-sew grommet curtains :

4. Paint the Walls and Cabinets

Simply painting the cabinets white really brightened up this rig! The current RV decorating trend is white cabinets and it does look very clean and modern . But there are other options that look great too, like the forest green cabinets in the photo below.

The folks below used a combination of wood and white in their little kitchen and that looks beautiful too!

If you’re up for some small scale renovations, paint the walls and cabinets of your home on wheels to brighten it up. Feel free to use the color of your choice!

When it comes to RV decorating, paint is probably the cheapest, but most dramatic change you can make to your interior.

If you have wallpaper and it isn’t peeling, you can paint right over it if you prime it with an oil-based primer . Watch the video tutorial below for more details.

Below is a short, Larry-The-Cable-Guy style video that explains how to paint RV cabinets too.

5. Use Maps as Wallpaper

I love this RV decorating idea. What better way to adorn the walls of your journey maker than with maps ? Even if you added one in just a small area, it’s a fun and whimsical touch.

In researching the best way to apply the maps to the wall (since they are thinner than traditional wallpaper), some DIYers said regular wallpaper glue like this worked fine while others said the maps started coming off the wall in humid weather.

You could hang them up poster-style with these poster strips , which I have used to attach posters to the wall and work great for attaching anything made of paper to the wall.

If you’re unsure, you could always hang maps as artwork rather then wallpaper, and still achieve that traveler vibe.

Map and Saying Print is cute as camper decor

Which brings us to our tip #6 below…

6. Put Up Artwork

Artwork not only adds character to your motorhome, but it also expresses your style and personality . Whether it’s prints, signs, paintings, antlers or whatever floats your boat – display them proudly.

And don’t forget about family pictures as well, so it feels like your loved ones are adventuring with you.

Usually, nails and screws aren’t recommended for use in RV or trailer walls because you can’t be sure what’s on the other side and don’t want to damage anything . But, some seasoned owners go ahead and use small screws with their rv or trailer decorations.

To be on the safe side, here’s a few other options that many long-time RV warriors swear by to keep their pictures and art in place.

  • Industrial Velcro
  • Heavy-Duty 3M Command Strips
  • 3M Command Hooks
  • Quakehold! Museum Putty

Here’s a couple of cute camper art pieces you might like for your rig or as a gift to a fellow RVer.

7. Add a Backsplash

A peel and stick backsplash is an easy way to update your rig’s kitchen or bathroom. They can be applied to any smooth surface, even over wallpaper. They don’t require glue, but you could use a little spray adhesive like this one , if you have doubts they will stick.

They make a huge difference and really add a modern look to your trailer or RV decor.

8. Give Your Counters a Makeover

The nice thing about RV renovations is that since the area is small, the cost for materials usually is too . You can get a new countertop from a home improvement store without putting too much of a dent in your wallet.

And here’s an RV decorating tip for you – if your laminate counters are still in good shape, with no chips or peeling, you can paint right over them . Now that’s a cheap, quick and easy decor fix!

There are special countertop paints like this one just for this purpose. They give your RV kitchen counters a beautiful granite look and are surprisingly easy to use. Watch this video to see how.

There are also adhesive films that look like granite or other stones that work well to makeover countertops. One popular product for RVs is d-c-fix self-adhesive film . It comes in several designs and users report that it works great for decorating RVs and trailers.

9. When RV Decorating, Use Regular Furniture

When it comes to RV decorating, many people first think about changing the upholstery. But professionally reupholstering existing RV furniture is usually more expensive than replacing it.

You could do the work yourself and save money, but you might consider just replacing the built-in furniture with regular pieces . I love how simple and clean the living and work area look in the image above, with a small table for a desk and a small futon sofa for seating.

You may find that a loveseat fits perfectly in the nook of your slide-out , anchoring it in place when you’re on the road (just take careful measurements to be certain). If not, simple metal brackets can be used to secure the furniture to the floor.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Cortni ? The Flipping Nomad (@theflippingnomad) on Apr 6, 2019 at 10:18am PDT

You can also replace the booth style dining area  with a regular table and chairs like they did in the image above. Drop-leaf tables like this one are great space savers.

Keep the loose pieces secure when travelling with floor rings and straps if they don’t fit in your slide out area snugly enough.

Using regular furniture makes your trailer look and feel much more like home.

These are some of my favorite drop-Leaf table sets that would fit well into RV decor.

10. Try Open Shelving

To make the interior feel more open, consider taking out one row of upper cabinets and using open shelving instead.

Use decorative baskets or boxes to store things that you would normally hide in cabinets. Then display some decorative items on the shelves, once you’re at your destination.

Actually, that museum putty I mentioned early works really well for holding decorative items in place!

If you do try open shelving, use a tension rod like this one to keep things secure when you’re on the road, or take the items down when you’re traveling and put them back when you’re settled. The latter is the safer option if you have an RV rather than a trailer.

A decorative doodad can be a flying missile if you get in an accident or have to slam on the brakes.

Below are some nice-looking storage containers, pretty enough to display on open shelving .

Nesting Storage Baskets are convenient and cute for rv decor

11. Use Space Savers to Minimize Clutter

No matter how beautifully your RV is decorated, clutter can ruin that cute look in a hot second.

Make sure the products you use in your rig are collapsible, stackable, and otherwise easy to stow away . This is important not only for aesthetics, but also for safety when you’re on the road.

Here is the scoop on the best RV decorating ideas to make your camper or RV feel cozy.

RV Decorating Ideas to Make the Perfect Travel Trailer

Consider a minimalist approach for your small space.

While we’re planning our RV décor, it’s worth considering a minimalist approach that emphasizes functionality and simplicity.

We’ve got a few RV decorating tips that can make your RV interior feel more spacious and less cluttered.

Let’s start with the RV walls. Opt for light, neutral colors to open up the small area. When we choose to decorate, let every item serve a purpose, eliminating unnecessary clutter.

As RV owners, we understand the need for easy mobility and comfort. So, consider multi-functional furniture and smart storage solutions. RV décor isn’t just about aesthetics, but about making the most of what we have.

Maximize Storage Spaces

Since we’re embracing a minimalist approach, next we need to delve into maximizing storage spaces in our RV. It’s all about making the most of every nook and cranny.

For instance, command hooks can do wonders on cabinet doors, providing a handy spot for utensils or oven mitts.

When considering RV decorating ideas, don’t overlook the RV bedroom. Under-bed storage is an RV living lifesaver, perfect for stashing away extra linens or out-of-season clothes.

To personalize your RV and make it feel homier, you can even paint the inside of storage spaces a fun pop color.

Don’t forget to use RV furniture that doubles as storage, another of our favorite RV decorating hacks.

In essence, to maximize storage spaces means to create a place for everything and keep everything in its place.

Easy RV Decor Idea: Incorporate Multi-Purpose Furniture

In our quest to maximize space, we’ve found that incorporating a few pieces of multi-purpose furniture can make a world of difference in our RV.

This is one of the top camper decor ideas for an RV makeover! A sleek RV couch that transforms into a bed, or a coffee table that doubles as a dining table, can drastically improve the functionality of your RV.

This is a crucial part of the interior decorating process during an RV renovation.

Investing in multi-purpose furniture lets you personalize your RV and make it feel like a cozy, efficient home.

It’s all about finding ways to decorate an RV that reflect your style while enhancing RV life. Remember, the goal is to make your RV not just livable, but lovable.

Play With Accent Colors to Spruce up Your RV

We’ve found that adding a splash of accent colors can truly bring your RV interior to life. Playing with accent colors is a brilliant RV decorating tip that can bring an immediate transformation.

Think of it as a decor idea that can spruce up your RV and make a big impact without overhauling the entire space.

The interior of an rv with a bed and a kitchen.

Choose hues that reflect your personality for that perfect touch. Perhaps, a vibrant turquoise pillow on a neutral sofa or a fiery red vase on the dining table. These interior decorating ideas will make your RV feel like a home away from home.

These subtle differences can make your RV feel more like your own and less like a temporary space. So, don’t be afraid to play with accent colors in your next RV revamp!

Camper Decor Ideas: Use Decorative Wall Decals

Moving on to the next idea, let’s explore the use of decorative wall decals in our RV decor.

One of the easiest decorating ideas to make your RV as nice as a home is adding wall decor. Unlike RV manufacturers, who often opt for a more neutral design, we can play around with our interior design.

Wall decals, particularly the peel and stick variety, are a convenient and affordable option. They’re easy to apply, remove, and replace, providing a versatile solution for our mobile spaces.

With countless designs available, we can choose anything from abstract patterns to nature scenes to enhance our RV and make it uniquely ours.

RV Bedroom Decorating Tips: Hang Curtains and Window Treatments  for Privacy

Let’s turn our attention to hanging curtains in our RV for enhanced privacy and aesthetic appeal.

A smart window treatment is a simple, yet effective RV bedroom decorating idea. It’s an easy way to make your small RV look and feel like a cozy home on wheels.

Choosing the right curtain design can add a touch to your RV that evokes warmth and comfort. These can be easily drawn close when you want privacy or left open to let in natural light.

Remember, RV lights can also play off the color and texture of your curtains, creating a soothing atmosphere.

RV Decorating Ideas: Add Outdoor Living Space

After setting up our interior with cozy curtains, it’s time to step outside and consider adding an outdoor living space to our RV. Even a small camper can be transformed into a cozy haven with the right decor.

One of the great ideas is to lay down an outdoor rug to define the space. Add a few throw pillows on your outdoor chairs for comfort and a pop of color.

These renovation ideas not only make your camper more of a home, but they also increase your overall living space, providing a place to relax under the stars.

With a bit of creativity and some well-chosen pieces, your camper’s outdoor area can become a comfortable, inviting extension of your indoor living space.

Install New RV Flooring to Make Your RV Feel Like Home

Building on our outdoor enhancements, we’re now turning our attention to revamping the foundation of our RV’s interior – the flooring.

To give your RV a new look, consider installing new RV flooring. This is a fun and easy RV project that can spruce up your travel trailer in no time.

A man and woman sitting at a table in an rv.

When choosing flooring, consider the lifestyle you lead in your RV. If it’s an adventure-filled, muddy boots kind of lifestyle, you might want to choose vinyl or laminate.

These materials can withstand heavy traffic and are easy to clean. Plus, they can be found in a variety of designs to match your aesthetic.

Choose Compact Appliances: Camper Decor Ideas to Eliminate Clutter

We’ve all got to admit, smart use of space is critical in an RV, and that’s where selecting the right compact appliances comes into play.

Compact appliances can revolutionize your RV kitchen, making it functional yet cozy. They may be small, but they make a massie difference in how you use your space.

Imagine a petite refrigerator that best fits your necessities, or a compact oven where you can warm your favorite meals.

The look of your RV can change significantly with these tiny adjustments. It’s a fantastic way to personalize your RV, making it feel more like a home. These changes may seem minor, but believe us, they make all the difference.

Explore ways to make your space work for you, because the right compact appliances can make a huge difference.

Create a Cozy Bedroom: RV Bedroom Decorating Ideas

Just like we’ve optimized our kitchens with compact appliances, let’s turn our attention to the bedroom, another crucial space in the RV that deserves a cozy touch.

To make this tiny home feel more like home, we’ll start with the walls. Peel then stick wallpaper is a game-changer for RV bedrooms, offering a quick and affordable way to elevate the space.

Choose a design that reflects your taste and makes your camper feel more like your favorite home.

Next, consider updating the fixtures. A new light fixture or a chic mirror can instantly transform the room.

Don’t forget the RV bathroom, a simple wallpaper can continue the cozy feel throughout your home. These touches will make your camper feel like a home.

Add Personal Touches: Wallpaper, Command Hooks, Backsplash, Peel and Stick Seasonal Decor, and More

Let’s infuse our RV space with personal touches that truly reflect who we’re and what we love.

When it comes to RV decorating, one of the best ways to make a huge impression is by adding unique details around your camper.

A custom backsplash in the kitchen, for instance, is easy enough to install and creates a stunning focal point.

A white rv with a bed and a bedside table.

Swap out the standard shower curtain for one featuring your favorite artwork or scenic landscape.

Seasonal decor is another fantastic way to spruce up your home. Rotate decorations according to the time of year, using pieces that speak to your style.

Adding stylish touches not only makes your space feel more like a home, but it also showcases your personality to every guest you welcome aboard.

RV Decor Ideas: A Cute Light Fixture for the Perfect RV Makeover

After adding those perfect touches, we should consider how we’re using light in our RV to further enhance our space.

The interplay of light and shadow can dramatically alter the feel of a space, making it cozy or spacious, warm or cool.

Let’s leverage natural light by optimizing window placement and using reflective surfaces.

We can also add stylish, energy-efficient lighting fixtures. Dimmers are a great addition, too, for creating a variety of moods.

Remember, it’s not just about brightness, but the quality of light. Choose warm tones for a welcoming atmosphere or cool ones for a refreshing vibe.

With thoughtful planning, we can use light not just for function, but to artistically accentuate our RV’s charm.

Home Away From Home: Experiment With Textures in Wall Decor

Moving on to our next design element, we shouldn’t overlook the impact of incorporating various textures into our RV decor.

Mixing textures adds depth and dimension to a space, making it feel more inviting and cozy. Consider a plush rug for a touch of luxury, or woven baskets for a rustic vibe.

We could also play with glossy and matte finishes on surfaces. For instance, a glossy countertop paired with matte cabinets creates an appealing contrast.

Don’t forget about textiles! Curtains, pillows, and throws can introduce different patterns and tactile experiences.

It’s about more than just visuals; it’s about how a space feels. Let’s not be afraid to experiment. After all, the best designs often come from unexpected combinations.

Incorporate Plants Into Your RV Kitchen and RV Bathroom Decor

Bringing nature indoors, we can further enhance our RV’s cozy atmosphere with the use of indoor plants. They’re not just pretty to look at; they help purify the air and create a calming environment.

We suggest opting for low-maintenance plants like succulents or snake plants that can thrive in various lighting conditions. You can place them in corners , on shelves, or hang them from the ceiling to add a touch of greenery.

A couple sitting on the porch of an rv.

Also, consider using stylish planters that match your RV’s décor theme. They’ll serve as functional art pieces.

Don’t forget to throw in a few herbs in the kitchen area. This way, we’re not only decorating our space but also growing our own fresh spices.

Create a Functional Kitchen Area With Easy-to-Use Cabinet

In addition to incorporating plants in our decor, we’re focusing on making our kitchen area highly functional and efficient, in line with our RV’s overall aesthetic.

We’re talking streamlined cabinetry with hidden storage, sleek countertop appliances, and wall-mounted pot racks.

We’re embracing the small space by opting for a compact, two-burner stove and a mini fridge. A rolling island can serve as both prep space and dining table, while magnetic spice racks on the inside of cabinet doors save room.

We’re choosing light colors to make the area feel larger, and adding a mirrored backsplash to reflect natural light.

With these tips, we’re transforming our kitchen area into a space-saving powerhouse that doesn’t compromise on style or functionality.

Ways to Make Your RV Bathroom Better

Next, we’re turning our attention to the bathroom, aiming to create a spa-like oasis despite its compact size.

Let’s start by refreshing the walls with a light, calming color such as mint or lavender. Replace the standard mirror with a quaint, vintage-style one to add instant charm.

Consider installing a curved shower rod; it’ll provide extra elbow room while maintaining a sleek look. Opt for a high-efficiency toilet to save water and space. A slim, wall-mounted cabinet can store essentials without filling up the room.

Try Open Shelving for RV Interior

Let’s move on to revolutionizing our RV’s storage with the use of open shelving. It’s a fantastic way to maximize space while adding a touch of style.

Open shelves give us the opportunity to exhibit our favorite items, transforming them into decorative elements. They also make everything w ithin reach , making our RV life more practical.

When choosing shelves, we must consider the material and color. For a modern look, we might opt for a sleek metal design. For a rustic touch, reclaimed wood could be the perfect choice.

Don’t forget, it’s essential to secure items on our open shelves to prevent them from moving while on the road.

It’s high time we embraced this trendy, functional, and aesthetic storage solution!

Go for a Theme in Your Favorite RV Room

After we’ve streamlined our storage with open shelving, another creative step we can take is to adopt a specific theme for our RV decor.

Whether it’s a cozy cabin vibe, beach retreat, or even a retro 70’s theme, it’s all about personalizing our space.

Let’s start with color, textures, and patterns that reflect our chosen theme. We could select throw pillows, curtains, or rugs that embody our theme. Don’t forget accents like unique wall art or themed kitchenware.

Don’t Forget Your Ceiling: Decorate and RV

We’re often so focused on the walls and floors that we overlook the potential our ceilings have to elevate our RV decor.

Ceilings are the unsung heroes of design, an expansive canvas just waiting to be adorned. From a simple coat of sky-blue paint to a sophisticated tin tile installation, the sky’s the limit.

A white rv sits on a wooden deck.

Consider installing recessed lighting for a modern, minimalist look or hanging a compact chandelier for a touch of elegance. Don’t be afraid to try a bold pattern, like chevron or polka dots, to add some character.

Peel-and-stick wallpaper is another great option, it’s easy to apply and remove, making it perfect for those who like to change it up. Whatever you choose , remember that your RV’s ceiling can be more than just a blank space.

Use Rugs to Define RV Living Areas

While we’re jazzing up the ceiling, it’s also important to recognize how we can use rugs to define different areas within our RV.

A plush rug under the dining table not only protects your flooring but also creates a distinct dining area. This visual cue can make your RV feel more like a home.

In the bedroom, a faux fur rug can add warmth and luxury, transforming the space into a cozy retreat. You can use outdoor rugs to extend your living space outside, creating an inviting patio area.

Don’t underestimate the power of a good rug. It’s an easy, versatile way to inject personality, color and comfort into your RV, while also helping to delineate spaces. Your RV will feel more organized, cohesive and stylish.

Create Space With Mirrors

Just as we’ve used rugs to define and enhance our spaces, we can also utilize mirrors to create an illusion of more space in our RV.

Mirrors reflect light and add depth, tricking the eye into perceiving a larger area. Strategically placing them on walls, cupboards, or even the ceiling can dramatically open the room.

Consider using a large mirror as a focal point for a sense of grandeur. Alternatively, a collection of smaller mirrors can add a quirky, bohemian feel.

Mirrored furniture or accessories, like a reflective coffee table or candle holders, can subtly boost the space illusion.

Update Your RV’s Lighting

Next, let’s tackle the lighting in our RV, as it can significantly impact the overall ambience and functionality of our space. Lighting can make a world of difference, transforming cramped, dark corners into radiant, welcoming spaces.

Consider swapping out those old, energy-guzzling incandescent bulbs for modern LED lights. Not only are they more energy-efficient, but they also offer a range of color temperatures to suit your mood.

Opt for warm, soft light for a cozy, inviting atmosphere, or cool, bright light to energize and invigorate.

Don’t forget about accent lighting too. Strategically placed under cabinets or around borders, these little gems can highlight your RV’s best features.

With a few tweaks, we can illuminate our RV to its fullest potential.

Organize With Baskets and Bins

Having illuminated our RV beautifully, we’re now shifting our focus to decluttering and organizing our space using baskets and bins.

These versatile storage solutions aren’t only practical, but they also add a charming rustic touch to our interiors.

We can stack woven baskets in corners for blankets and magazines, or use wire bins to organize our kitchen utensils. Clear plastic bins can be perfect for stowing items under the bed or seats.

Let’s not forget about wall-mounted baskets. They’re fantastic for storing toiletries, spices, or even craft supplies. Whether it’s wicker, wire, or plastic, these baskets and bins will help us maintain an organized and aesthetically pleasing RV.

Let’s embrace the beauty of order and simplicity in our 2024 RV decorating journey!

Use Wall Space Wisely to Decorate an RV

After getting our baskets and bins in place, let’s turn our attention to using the wall space in our RV wisely. We’ll need to think vertically to maximize our space. Consider installing floating shelves for books, candles, or keepsakes.

A small bathroom with a sink and toilet.

Hooks can be a lifesaver, perfect for hanging coats, towels, or kitchen utensils. We can also go for magnetic strips for knives or spice jars, saving us cabinet space.

Don’t forget to add some artwork or family photos to personalize it. Opt for lighter, smaller pieces that won’t add much weight.

Wall-mounted fold-down tables or desks are also a great idea, providing functionality without filling our space. Remember, it’s all about combining aesthetics, practicality, and clever use of space.

Remember to Add Personal Touches

While we’re focusing on practicality and space-saving techniques, it’s essential we don’t forget to add our personal styles to truly make the RV feel like a home. We can achieve this by incorporating mementos from our travels, like photos or souvenirs, into our RV decor.

Why not frame a snapshot from that unforgettable sunrise hike or display a handcrafted piece picked up at a local market? These items not only add unique charm to your mobile abode, but they also serve as beautiful reminders of the adventures we’ve had.

We can also weave in our favorite colors, textures, and materials to create an aesthetic that speaks to our personal style.

Wondering how to decorate an RV? You are not alone. RV decor is something many people wonder about, especially if they are living in their RV full-time.

Fortunately, there are tons of great RV decorating ideas out there. Some are drastic, some more subtle, and many are super easy to put together in a single weekend or less, meaning changing up your RV decor should be no problem at all.

Below, we’ve compiled all of our favorite RV decorating ideas. From RV decorating hacks and RV interior design to outdoor RV decorations and RV christmas decorations, we cover it all. Let’s dive in!

RV Wall Decor Ideas

Let’s start with the walls. Most RVs come with pretty bland (and sometimes downright ugly) wallpaper. You could of course paint the walls, and in some cases, that is the best course of action. That said, painting in an RV is a big project that many don’t want to take on. Fortunately, there are plenty of ways to spruce those walls up without putting in all that effort.

Here are some of our favorite RV wall decor ideas:

Choose Multipurpose Decor

One of our favorite small RV decorating ideas is to choose wall decor that serves as both an accent piece and storage of some sort. Cute shelves, colorful pocket organizers , and fun signs with hooks along the bottom are all good examples of this.

Use Command Hooks and Strips

Putting a screw or nail into your RV wall will cause damage. Not only that, you could also run into electrical wiring and that would not be good. Therefore, we highly recommend the use of Scotch Command Hooks and Strips when hanging things on your RV walls.

Go with Peel-and-Stick

Peel-and-stick faux tile and wallpaper are some of our favorite RV decorating hacks. They are an excellent way to cover ugly walls without picking up a paintbrush. Not only that, but many peel-and-stick wall papers are actually removable, meaning nothing you do has to be permanent.

Create Your Own Art

Don’t have a lot to spend on RV wall decor? Consider creating your own art! Paint your favorite landscape on a lightweight canvas, create a collage using old magazines, or choose your best family photos to display.

What to Avoid

There are a couple of things you will want to avoid when choosing RV wall decor. First, it’s important that you avoid hanging anything breakable like glass picture frames. Second, you will want to skip heavy items that likely wouldn’t be held up by Command strips and might damage your walls.

Decorative RV Interior Lights

Up next: decorative RV interior lights. Whether you have outdated old fixtures that you’d like to replace or want to add accent lights to brighten the place up, your RV lighting can make a big difference.

Replacing Old Light Fixtures

Most people don’t think of light fixtures when they think about RV decor. That said, simply replacing tired old fixtures with decorative RV interior lights can change the whole look of the space.

This video will show you how to go about that:

Using Accent Lights

Another way you can use RV decorative lights to help update your RV is by adding accent lights. In some cases, this might mean adding a string of “fairy lights” above the bed. In other cases, it might mean hanging a paper lantern lamp. Whatever decorative lighting you choose, make sure it’s 100% you.

RV Window Treatment Ideas

Another of our favorite decorating ideas for RV living is to change up the window treatments. It’s no secret that traditional RV window treatments aren’t usually very nice to look at. Why not change that with one of the RV window treatment ideas below?

Hang Curtains

The simplest solution? Take down the valances and the original shades, and add curtains to the windows instead. You can buy curtains from the store and hem them up, or make your own. There are even no-sew ways of making RV curtains out there. You will have to screw the curtain rods into your walls, so be sure you know where wiring is run so you can avoid it.

Cover Valances

If you like the idea of valances but don’t like the way yours look, you could always just cover them. This can be done by taking the valances down and stapling or gluing new fabric in place over the old. Only need a temporary solution? Some people simply pin the fabric in place in order to avoid making permanent changes.

Repair Day/Night Shades

Sometimes the only real issue with RV window treatments is the fact that the day/night shades are falling apart. Many times, it’s possible to repair these shades rather than buy new ones.

This video shows you how to restring your RV shades:

Replace Shades

Can’t fix your existing shades but still want to stick with shades rather than have curtains? You can replace your RV shades with the same shades you’d put in your house. We especially love cellular shades , which help insulate windows and are easy to raise and lower.

Frame with Wood

One super cute and trending RV decor idea involves framing your RV windows with wood . This makes them look more like residential windows and is the perfect addition if you’re going for RV farmhouse decor. That said, it is important to keep in mind the weight of the wood and, again, where you are screwing into the wall.

RV Kitchen Decorating Ideas

Wondering how you might update the look of your RV kitchen? We like the two RV decoration ideas below for a big update with little effort:

Add a Backsplash

We mentioned the peel-and-stick faux tile earlier. This stuff is perfect for creating a fun backsplash behind the kitchen sink and countertops. We love that it’s so easy to install, meaning a whole new look in less than a day.

Change Cabinet and Drawer Knobs

You’d be surprised what a difference new hardware on your kitchen cabinets and drawers can make. Simply replacing your knobs (and maybe hinges, if needed) will make a drastic difference.

RV Living Area Decorating Ideas

What about the living area? Not to worry! We have some RV decor ideas for this area of your home-on-wheels as well:

Cover the Couch and Dinette Seats

If your RV couch is peeling or even just looking worn out, you might be thinking it’s time to replace it. The good news? That isn’t actually necessary. These stretchy furniture covers come in a variety of sizes, meaning you can easily cover most couches and dinette seat cushions.

The covers fit well, but if you have trouble keeping them in place, consider using sheet suspenders to hold onto them.

Throw Down a Rug

Replacing your RV flooring is possible, but it isn’t easy. If you’d rather avoid that task for now but want to cover ugly flooring, consider grabbing a cute rug to throw down in the living area. Obviously, this can also be done in the bedroom and bathroom if needed.

RV Bedroom Decorating Ideas

The bedroom might need a bit of attention as well. Besides the decorative lighting, window treatments, and wall decor mentioned above, we also recommend trying the following RV bedroom decorating ideas:

Change the Bedspread

Changing the bedspread is one of the easiest ways to update your RV decor. Choose something you love and use that as a jumping-off point for choosing the window treatments and wall decor in your RV bedroom.

Add a Headboard

Another of our favorite camper bedroom ideas is to add a headboard to the bed. This doesn’t have to be a real headboard. In fact, it’s probably better that it isn’t. Instead, try one of these faux headboard ideas .

Switch the Bed Curtain

If your RV bedroom or bed has a privacy curtain, consider changing it out. We’ve seen people replace the cabover bunk curtain using a tension rod , adhesive tension rod holders , shower curtain clips , and cute decorative curtains . Similar methods could be used around other types of beds.

Check out this walkthrough of the converted garage of Fulltime Families member Doug Setzer of Learn to RV .

RV Bathroom Decor

Another space that might require some RV interior decorating ideas? The bathroom. The camper bathroom decor ideas below will help you get started:

Change the Shower Curtain

Switching out the shower curtain is an easy enough RV bathroom decor idea. If your curtain is hung using a track in the ceiling, replace it with a tension rod and then hang whatever curtain you like best.

That peel-and-stick faux tile comes into play yet again in the bathroom. Use it to add a backsplash around the bathroom sink and totally change the look of the room.

RV Outdoor Decor

When it comes to RV outdoor decor, we recommend keeping it simple. This makes travel day easier, as it means less stuff to pack up. Not only that, it also helps you avoid having a cluttered site.

That said, there are a few outdoor RV decor ideas that are simple, useful, and tasteful:

Decorative RV Exterior Lights

String lights like these adorable camper lights or these solar lanterns are ideal for decorating your site. Of course, they also serve a very important purpose: lighting your campsite at night. This makes them a worthwhile investment.

Family Flag or Sign

Fulltime Families members should let other Fulltime Families members know where they are. The best way to do this is through the use of a family flag or sign on your site. This adds a bit of pizzazz while also helping you make friends!

Outdoor Mat

Nobody likes dirt in the RV. An outdoor rug can help you avoid tracking debris inside. Not only that, it also helps keep your site looking tidy and gives you an opportunity to give your site a bit of personality without adding unnecessary clutter.

Vinyl Tablecloth

Most campsites come with a picnic table. Unfortunately, you never know what was on that table before you got there. Why not cover it up and add some color to your space with a vinyl tablecloth ? Use clips to hold it down or invest in a fitted set .

So you own an RV (Recreational Vehicle), and you want to do some decorating. If you’re an RV owner tired of the standard décor that came with your RV and want to start making it your own, then keep reading. There are endless decorating ideas for RVs that can turn your drab home on wheels into a more personal space. If you live in your RV full-time, you may have an even greater desire to enhance your small space. Below are some great ideas to bring new life to your RV interior, from simple accents like throw pillows, decorating your walls or even doing a complete overhaul with new furniture.

RV Interior Decorating Ideas

The living area in an RV may not have as much room as you have at home, but with a careful color scheme and the addition of throw pillows, throw blankets, and wall hangings, you can have a big impact on the feel of your RV. Wall decor, such as wall hangings and wall art, is the easiest way to personalize your space. Accentuate your windows with treatments that complement your theme, and consider installing light fixtures that cast a warm glow.

RV Decor for Your Wall

Wall hangings, wall art, and stick wallpaper can transform RV walls. Choosing bright colors and fun patterns can add a pop of color. However, you must consider that your RV moves and shakes when traveling, so you may not want to use regular picture hangers.

Hanging Photos on Your RV Wall

As you would at home, the key to hanging photos is to use a good supportive hanger. You want to avoid drilling into your walls as they differ from your home walls. Instead, I suggest using stick-on hangers, like command hooks.

Next, you want to choose light photos. That large antique picture frame made from solid wood that was passed down to you is probably not a good idea. Instead, look for lightweight picture frames, preferably one that uses acrylic instead of glass.

picture of products used to hang things on an RV wall

A better option may be to use canvas prints. They’re relatively inexpensive, look great, and are lightweight. As a bonus, if they fall off during travel, you won’t have a mess to clean up, and the picture will likely stay undamaged.

Using Stick-on-Wall Art on Your RV Walls

Stick-on wall art is a great idea for dressing up a bare wall. Countless options are available online to suit any style you’re going after. These are great for kids’ bedrooms, kitchens, or living areas. If you don’t like the options available or want a custom piece of art (such as your family’s name), you can order custom wall decals to add the look you want.

Adventure Theme Decor Wall Stickers

Updating the Seats, Sofa, and Loveseats in your RV

Throw pillows, blankets, and even new furniture can make the living room feel cozy. Experiment with different color themes to create harmony. As you would at home, pick a color theme and stick with it. You don’t need any special RV-specific pillows or blankets, so you can shop wherever you like.

I suggest heading to a store like Home Goods, Marshalls, TJ Max, or even the Dollar Store to find high-quality and low-priced options to spruce up your furniture.

You can also get slipcovers for your furniture.

Replacing RV Furniture

Speaking of furniture, if it’s outdated and you want to modernize it, you can replace most of it. Be forewarned that RV furniture can be expensive. Some RVers will choose to replace it with residential furniture. This is fine if the furniture is not attached to the RV. You may need to customize it if it is, which can get quite involved.

Also, if you choose to add a piece of residential furniture, such as a sofa or loveseat, you’ll need to measure carefully. You want to ensure it will fit in the existing space, through the RV door, and around tight corners. You will have less space to maneuver than you do at home.

You should also be aware of weight. A heavy sofa can significantly increase the weight of your RV. If you’re not getting RV-specific furniture, incorporate the item’s weight into your shopping criteria.

Lighting upgrades are one of the most inexpensive DIY projects that can significantly impact the look and feel of your RV. While you may not want to update the built-in light fixtures, you can change the bulbs for many of them.

When upgrading the bulbs, I suggest looking at LED bulbs. LED bulbs will not only change the color but also reduce the amount of electricity you use. LED bulbs come in various tints or hues, emitting a different light spectrum. Consider upgrading to a warmer light bulb if your RV lighting feels like a hospital room. You may want to read our article on the best-LED light bulbs for RVs:

String lights

While tabletop or floor lamps can work for your RV, they pose several challenges when moving. Alternatively, you can easily add/hang string lights in your RV. This may not be for everyone, but they make great options to create a warmer feel and new look in parts of your RV. Sometimes referred to as fairy lights., string lights can sometimes add a magical touch to your RV décor.

RV Kitchen Decorating Ideas

The kitchen area in a travel trailer may be small, but with creative ways like utilizing storage space and smart interior design, it can become a great place to cook. RV kitchens can be easily updated with a little organization, added accessories, and even some DIY mods.

image

RV Kitchen Organization

In almost every situation, an RV kitchen will be smaller than the one you have at home. As a result, it’s very easy for your kitchen and countertops to get cluttered with the stuff you use regularly, including appliances, spices, dishwashing supplies, etc. One of the best ways to transform an RV kitchen is to open it up, which is possible with some organizations.

Organized view of an interior of an RV

There are countless devices and storage solutions to help you better organize your RV kitchen area. For example, cabinet shelving lets you get items off the countertop and neatly store them away. You can also install things like an under-cabinet paper towel holder, spice organizer, wall hooks, or countertop shelving.

Another good tip is to bring less or focus on multi-use appliances. One of my favorite kitchen gadgets is an air fryer. However, it can be bulky to move when using it. Combined with a coffee pot, toaster, blender, or other kitchen gadget, the available countertop space can disappear quickly.

White toaster oven cooking several meals at once

Some great do-it-all kitchen small appliances may free up some counter space. One good one is a multi-use toaster oven . Some will have features like air frying, toasting, dehydrating, etc. Here’s a great article on some of the best ones on sale today.

Another space-saving appliance is a percolator. I can’t go without my morning coffee when camping. While a traditional drip coffee maker is easy, it can be bulky. Either switch to a single-cup option or try a percolator and pour it over the coffee maker. Both can store easily and make a better cup of joe than a drip unit.

RV Kitchen Décor

Don’t be afraid to make your RV kitchen more personal. One way to do this is to change the wall space to your style. You can easily do this with stick wallpaper or stick tiles as a kitchen backsplash. These can give your RV a fresh look with little work. Remember to accessorize your kitchen sink with fun patterned towels!

Funny Camping Kitchen Towels and Dishcloths

Why not help your mom add a little pizzazz and fun to the kitchen with these camping-themed kitchen towels? These fun kitchen towels are high quality, easy to clean, and durable: 80% Polyester and 20% Polyamide. They're also machine washable.

If you’re going after an outdoorsy theme, endless designs are available on Amazon. However, you can focus on any style or color pattern you want. If you’re updating the walls, you’ll want to focus on stick-on options. A traditional tile wall will not hold up well in your RV during travels and will place a lot of stress and weight on your RV walls. Plus, stick-on options are much easier to install.

Art3d 10-Sheet Peel and Stick Backsplash

Finally, remember the floor. Most RVs will have uniform flooring throughout most of the rooms. The best way to break up the monotony is with small area rugs. In kitchens, a contrasting color kitchen mat or rug can set the space apart from other rooms in your RV. If you want to distinguish the kitchen from the living area, choose a bright color that stands out against the RV floor. As a bonus, you can also opt for a stress-relieving mat, which uses memory foam material to cushion you while standing and cooking.

Also, don’t forget about house plants. A small potted plant on your counter can make your kitchen area more inviting. An artificial one will work fine if you don’t want to worry about a real plant. Place it on the countertop or kitchen table like at home.

RV Bedroom Decorating Ideas

Decorating an RV bedroom poses unique challenges, given the limited space available, but it also offers an opportunity for creativity and customization. One popular method is to utilize multi-purpose furniture, like under-bed storage or ottomans that can open to store blankets, sheets, or out-of-season clothes. Wall-mounted folding desks or nightstands can free up precious floor space while still providing function. Overhead, consider installing shelving or magnetic strips, which are excellent for storing and displaying smaller items or personal keepsakes. When it comes to bedding, use lightweight quilts and decorative pillows in bold patterns or colors. This not only provides a splash of style but also minimizes the weight added to the RV.

Lighting is another vital aspect of RV bedroom decoration. Given the natural constraints of an RV, natural light might be limited. However, this can be easily offset with LED strip lights, which can be affixed to the undersides of cabinets or the ceiling. They’re energy-efficient and come in various tones to set the right mood. For window treatments, light-filtering roller blinds or curtains in fun patterns can provide privacy without compromising on style. Incorporating mirrors on one side of the bedroom can also make the space feel larger and more open. Lastly, don’t forget the power of wall art; even in small spaces, a well-chosen piece of art or a tapestry can become a focal point, transforming the RV bedroom from a mere sleeping space into a personalized retreat.

Painting Your RV Cabinets and Walls

If you are after a big change to your RV look and feel, paint is a sure-fire way to achieve it. While most RV and camper walls have wallpaper on them, making it challenging to paint, one area you can transform is your cabinets and trim. While not an easy task, as anyone who painted cabinets would attest, it can make your entire RV feel more like home. Most RV manufacturers will use a wood-style laminate for the cabinets. Some may have solid wood. Both can be painted with a little bit of patience.

You need to remember to sand the surface to rough it up a bit and use a good quality bonding primer before you put on your final coat. This will help the paint adhere to the surface and prevent chipping and peeling down the road. If you paint, removing all doors and cabinet hardware is the best option . Paint as much of them as you can outside to improve ventilation. When painting the cabinets, tape everything well since the RV ceiling and walls are less forgiving for paint mishaps. Paint on a sunny and dry day with the RV doors and windows open to avoid breathing in the fumes from the paint.

Painting RV Walls is not impossible, but it’s a time-consuming task. Most RV interior walls are made from laminate paneling with wallpaper over them. Some older RVs may have textured wallpaper, which will not be completely smooth when finished. Others will have wallpaper borders, which may be noticeable when you’re done painting. However, if you have your heart set on painting the walls, by all means, go for it. Some great tutorials online will walk you through every step of the process.

One alternative is to add a wall covering. One of my favorites is shiplap. While you could always install an actual shiplap, adding a vinyl wall covering is a great way to get a similar look. The vinyl coverings available can give you almost any look you’re going after. The great thing about vinyl coverings is that they won’t add any weight to your RV and can be undone if you change your mind. These work great for an accent wall and create a fun pattern in parts of your RV. A small amount of work can greatly impact the interior aesthetic of your RV.

RV Window Treatments Upgrades

Adding curtains to windows.

Upgrading RV windows by replacing valances and shades with traditional curtains is a favored choice among RV owners. This transformation, although simple, offers a range of decorative rods and fabrics for customization. For optimal space utilization, it’s essential to use brackets or hooks that hug the walls, like large cup hooks, to hold the rods. If the windows are close to the ceiling, you can also use ceiling-mounted hooks. This method ensures curtains remain flush against the wall, providing adequate light, privacy, and temperature control. You should choose non-bulky finials to avoid installation issues. A highlight of this approach is the option for no-sew curtains; clip-on hooks allow for easy mounting and removal of various fabrics. For a precise fit, iron-on hem tape can adjust curtain lengths without sewing. Moreover, curtains provide the flexibility to change styles, which is ideal for those who frequently redecorate.

Replacing pull-down shades

Factory-installed RV day-and-night shades are not made with quality in mind and can deteriorate quickly, especially if you have a 6-year-old like me. These pleated shades’ thin, papery material can make your RV appear aged. Upgrading to superior quality shades enhances the aesthetics of your RV windows, offers better light control, and aligns with your decor preferences. You can opt for full pleated blinds for desired privacy and light adjustment or even go shade-less for an unobstructed view, provided privacy isn’t compromised. While changing these shades is straightforward, it can get a little expensive if you have a lot of windows.

NOVINO RV Blinds Shades for Camper Window

Recover the valances.

RV manufacturers love to use valances. They are usually designed to go with the decor of the stock RV but may look better when you start to makeover your RV. One option is to remove them entirely and go with a curtain. Remember, though, that there may be remnants of the hardware used to hang them when removed. Another option is to recover the valances. Most valances are made from wood and covered in fabric attached with staples. You can completely remove the fabric and all the staples or add the new fabric over them. If you take it down to the wood, you can also paint them or add vinyl coverings to get the look you’re after.

RV Outside Decorating Ideas

Decorating the outside of your RV can be just as meaningful as decorating the interior when it comes to adding personal touches to your home away from home. The outside of an RV is like the front porch of a home. It’s the first thing you see when you drive up to your site and the last thing you see when you leave. It’s also the part of the RV that everyone else sees.

By setting up a welcoming outdoor living area, you’ll be able to display your personality for all to see and make a much more comfortable and relaxing atmosphere when sitting outside. For many RV owners, spending time out of the RV is the most important part of their camping trip. Why not make it special by adding a few creative touches?

Temporary Sites

If you camp for a few days or maybe a week or two at a time and then need to pack up and move, portability and ease of setup will be two of the top factors to consider when developing your outdoor decorating strategy. It’s helpful to have small collapsible accessories, camp furniture, and other items that can be easily placed on your site and will fit into your storage areas when packing up.

However, temporarily doesn’t need to be boring. Many ideas below can be adapted for short, long, or permanent stays. The most important part is creating a functional, relaxing space that makes you happy.

Seasonal Sites

If you camp as a seasonal, meaning you stay in the same campsite all season long, you have many options to deck out your outdoor living area. Since you don’t need to transport and store everything when you’re done camping, you can opt for large and more comfortable outdoor living furniture and accessories similar to what you may have in your backyard at home.

You can add things that temporary campers can’t, such as larger potted plants, wooden decking, outdoor storage, etc. I’ve seen some campsites rival the outdoor sitting areas of a 5-star resort. Your RV patio area is one of the most used spaces at your campsite.

Outdoor Rugs and Mats for your RV

Going to any camping store, you’ll see dozens of outdoor rugs for sale. They are typically made of the same plasticky-type woven material and are available in countless colors and patterns. They fold up easily, are durable, and are a good choice for most campers.

However, when designing the look and feel of your RV outdoor area, you can use any outdoor rug you want. Some other popular options include bamboo rugs, artificial turf, or anything else you may use in your outdoor space at home.

Also, you can choose a different pattern than most RV stores sell. Rugs are available in solid colors, complex patterns, or simple prints. Additionally, you don’t need to settle for just one rug. Could you consider adding a few smaller ones in the areas you use most frequently? A rug for your entrance, one for the grill area, and another for the seating area may be an excellent way to break up the campsite into a more personal space.

Don’t forget the welcome mat. You can find camping-specific ones, personalize them, or choose one that matches your decorating theme. It will keep your RV flooring clean and is the perfect way to welcome guests.

How big of an RV outdoor rug or mat do you need?

The size of your RV can be a good indicator of the rug size you’ll need. While there is no standard, your entrance rug should easily cover the area immediately around your entrance door(s). While it does provide aesthetics to your outdoor living space, it also serves an essential function for keeping dirt and mess from getting into your RV.

At a minimum, I suggest a 5′ x 8′ rectangular rug for your entrance. If you have a large motorhome, you can easily add a much larger rug, like a 9′ x 18′ option. Also, while more expensive, you can find rugs in various shapes, like squares or ovals. A standard rug size with ample coverage is 6′ x 9′, which can work well for almost any RV.

Shelters and Tents

In addition to the functionality of a tent or outdoor shelter (protection from rain and sun), it also adds a great way to add the ambiance of your campsite’s outdoor living area. Unless you’re at a permanent site, choosing a shelter that’s easy to set up is best. There are many options to choose from but aim for one that is large enough for your needs, durable, and has options to tie it into the ground in the event of a storm.

CLAM Quick-Set Escape

Tents and shelters also provide an opportunity for some additional personalization. Consider adding string lights around the perimeter of your tent, furnishing the inside with an outdoor rug, or setting up some tables and chairs for a unique hang-out spot.

Some RVers will also choose to add an awning room, which provides a more useable shelter, taking advantage of your RV’s rollout awning to create a separate room. We have a great article on awning rooms that you may want to check out here:

Seating and Furniture

I assume you want to avoid standing or sitting on the ground while enjoying your campsite’s outdoor space. Finding comfortable chairs is necessary for relaxing in your outdoor oasis. Most campers will want to choose a foldable camping chair.

While residential collapsible chairs typically fold down in half, a camping chair will fold into itself to create a more compact option for storage. If you have multiple chairs, when folded, they can easily be stored under camper storage compartments, in the truck of your car or SUV, or even inside the RV.

Choosing a good camping chair will make your time outside more comfortable. Since there are so many choices, we put together a great guide on finding the perfect camping chair. Check it out here.

Another great option for your outdoor space is a hammock. A hanging hammock is great if you’re lucky enough to have some trees around your campsite. If not, you can purchase a collapsible hammock stand to set up anywhere.

picture of 3 different camping hammocks

Also, don’t forget the tables. Incorporating a good portable table or two can allow you to organize your campsite just as you want. If you are entertaining, a well-positioned table with a decorative table covering can make a gathering more special and convenient.

Just like chairs, camping tables will typically fold down smaller than the ones you use at home. However, a small plastic folding table is relatively lightweight and easy to transport in your RV. If you have one at home, consider bringing it along. Also, remember a decorative tablecloth for the picnic table. There are some great designs available online.

RV Outdoor Lighting

While most RVSs have outdoor porch lights or awning lights, they’re not always ideal for creating the mood you’re after. Adding inexpensive lighting is easy and perfect for creating a welcoming campsite.

One of my favorites is string lights. They can easily be attached to your awning or tent or stung across an open space to provide light where you want it. Opt for LED lights when purchasing them since they’ll last much longer and use very little electricity.

Govee Outdoor String Lights

Also, mix up the colors of your lights. Some LED lights will allow you to change the color from white or yellow to red, blue, green, or anything in-between. This is a great way to add personal touches to your outdoor area. Consider adding white string lights near the table with drinks and snacks, a red light near the seating area, and maybe a blue or green light around your tent. Get creative; with the right lights, you can mix and match your colors as much as you like.

In addition to string light, you can add other lighting around the ground. This creates a nice offset to overhead lights and also serves the function of helping people move around the campsite. You can easily add solar-powered stake lights (just be sure to charge them), ground rubber-coated rope lights, or even some movable torches (oil or battery-powered).

Sitting around a fire is one of the most beloved parts of a camping trip. One of my favorite parts of driving into a campground is the recognizable smell of campfire smoke. Creating a welcoming campfire area can be a great way to personalize your outdoor space.

When setting up your campsite, consider the campfire ring as a focal point if you plan to have a fire. Position all of your other outdoor accessories in proximity to this space. This may involve setting up the tent and tables nearby (but not too close) to the fire. Adding string lights from the RV entrance to the campfire area or some well-positioned ground lighting can draw people from the RV to the campfire.

Solo Stove Bonfire 2.0

If you're looking for a great way to leave a campfire enthusiast speechless, consider picking them up a Solo Stove, the ultimate in smoke-free campfire fun. Any avid camper who loves campfires knows about Solo Stoves. They are easy to fire up and allow you to have a campfire practically anywhere. They're on just about every camping-related gift guide for a good reason. They are constructed with durable stainless steel sheets and are extremely high quality. While not inexpensive, they're definitely worth the extra cost and will be loved by your favorite camper.

Another campfire option is to bring a portable fireplace, allowing you to place the fire ring wherever you want. These are becoming more popular and are available in traditional wood-burning models or propane options. One of my favorites is the Solo Stove, which burns wood efficiently and keeps the smoke from overwhelming everyone sitting around the fire. While it does take up some extra space, the convenience of it offsets this shortfall.

Outdoor RV Decorations

Another easy way to decorate your RV’s outdoor area is to put up some decorations. If it’s a holiday, use a theme. If it’s just a regular camping trip, you can still accessorize. Some popular options include outdoor decorative pillows for your chairs, flags, and signs.

If you walk around the campsite, you’ll see RVers advertising their love of camping with customized flags or signs with their family’s name and a personalized message. This is a great way to meet other campers since you’re letting them know who you are and creating a welcoming atmosphere at your site.

Decorations can easily be hung on awnings, tents, or the RV. Remember to remove them before you pull in your RV or drive away. Thrift and dollar stores are fantastic places to find materials for DIY projects that enhance your camper feel. Most stores will have seasonal selections allowing you to create whatever theme you choose.

Outdoor Storage

One of the best ways to create a welcoming site is to declutter. Consider picking up an outdoor plastic shed or deck box if you’re on a seasonal site. On a temporary site, bring some large Tupperware containers with you. In addition to storing items between trips, they can easily be slid underneath the camper and used for camping storage.

Neatly storing unused items will also help in the event of a sudden storm or windy conditions. If you have large items like bikes, pool or river floats, or grills, pick up a rain cover or put them under the camper when not in use. My favorite rain cover for bikes and outdoor accessories is Yard Stash. Unlike inexpensive options, it’s made of durable fabric material and will last for years.

YardStash Bike Cover

Decorating your RV for Holidays

Chances are that you’ll be camping during some holidays, whether it’s the 4 th  of July, Memorial Day, Halloween, or maybe even Christmas, you can personalize your RV just as you would your home. It’s fun to decorate your RV’s indoor and outdoor spaces.

Many campgrounds will also have decorating contests, which are a fun way to participate in some camper comradery. One of my favorite times of the year is Christmas in July when a hot summer day is transformed into a festive event. You don’t need special RV Christmas decorations. Some RVers will bring their decorations from home and install them at the campsite, whether it’s a Christmas tree, Christmas lights, inflatable decorations, or garland around their campsite, allowing them to add a little holiday cheer to the camping or holiday season.

RV Decorating 2

Also, if you have the opportunity to camp over Halloween, many parks will have a trick-or-treat event. My local campground goes all out with sites offering haunted houses, spooky music, and enough candy to feed a small nation. It is one of my favorite camping weekends of the year.

RV Decorating Photos

Regardless of how you decorate your RV, one of the best ways to get ideas is from other ideas. Below are some of my favorite RV decorating photos that will hopefully inspire you.

Let’s Wrap it Up

Making an RV feel like home requires some creativity, but it’s a surefire way to add comfort to your travel days. Whether you are a motorhome, fifth wheel , travel trailer, or small teardrop camper, I hope the ideas mentioned above will help you create a living space that feels warm and welcoming.

Another great way to get inspired is by checking social media for the best RV decoration ideas and tips from other RVers. The options are endless from outdoor space enhancements like outdoor rugs to simple touches like pillow covers. Even minor adjustments like a new shower curtain or area rugs can go a long way in transforming your RV into a great place to camp, whether on the road or parked at your favorite RV campsite.

Happy decorating and happy trails!

Are old travel trailers worth anything?

Old travel trailers can be worth something depending on the condition and age of the trailer. An old travel trailer in good condition with all original parts could be appraised at a higher value than a trailer with missing or damaged parts. Additionally, vintage model trailers tend to have more value than newer models due to their uniqueness and rarity. It’s important to research the current market value of your trailer and set a price accordingly.

What year of travel trailer is considered vintage?

Vintage travel trailers are generally considered to be those that were made before the year 1964. This is because trailer technology and production were rapidly changing during this time period, and many unique models were created. Many of these retro style models are highly sought after by collectors today due to their rarity and historical significance. Additionally, some travel trailers from the 70’s may also be considered vintage due to their unique design. If you own an old travel trailer, it could be worth something to the right buyer. Doing some research about the age and value of your trailer is a good place to start.

With these vintage travel trailer decors we have shared, you have some clues beforehand. Forget baggy tents; you can decorate your camper by yourself and turn it into the home of joy, convenience, comfort, and personality. Do not let boring look ruin your journey and it is time for you and your family relish every moment with your unique and impressive vintage camper on your road.

How To Make Your RV Feel More Like Home – 5 RV Remodel Examples

If you just bought a new RV for the summer RVing season or if you are moving into an RV to travel full time you are going to want to make it feel like your own! RV’s have come a long way with how they look inside off of the show room floor – the industry finally figured out that bright colors are better for in an RV – thank goodness!

Picture of inside of a 5th wheel Remodel

But no matter how good they get at it you are still going to want to make it your own. We have done this with 4 different rigs. Some we did a lot of remodel work, others it was just painting and adding wallpaper and accessories.

The good thing is you can do as much or as little as you want to! Below we share details on what we did with each of our rigs to give you some ideas on how to remodel your RV!

Table of Contents

1st Remodel – Class A

Class A RV Remodel

With our first rig we took out closets and sinks and added bunks and shelves. We also ripped out all of the old fashioned looking decor and made curtains to hang.

Plus we painted the whole RV. Nothing really different here. Craig just primed the walls and we painted them with normal paint. Nothing special.

We were very happy with everything we did and really enjoyed living in it that way, but when it came time to sell we had to repaint everything back to a neutral color. I guess we didn’t have to, but the majority of people shopping for an RV are going to be looking for a more factory style. Just something to keep in mind.

RV Remodel: How to fit 6 people and 2 large dogs in a Class A RV

2nd RV Remodel – Class C

ClassC23feet

We did a few customization but not many as we ended up not keeping this one for long since it has some mechanical issues and ended up not being the right fit for us. It was a 23 foot class C and we didn’t tow a car. But we found we like having a car and the ease of leaving our “home” at a campground when we went out exploring.

3rd RV Remodel – Travel Trailer

Check out all of the ways we made our travel trailer feel like the best home! Here we share all of the awesome products used in our Travel Trailer Remodel.

With our 3rd RV (21 foot travel trailer) and a much smaller one – we have found that there is more of a NEED to customize it so that we have the things in place that we need. Most RV’s off the factory floor are made for weekend trips where you may have a bag or suitcase with you. When it is something you are going to be living in you are going to want to make updates to make it livable!

Some of the things we did to it:

  • Changed our shower into a closet for clothes (We used campground showers).
  • Added an Inverter and got a solar panel suitcase.
  • Put in a spice rack for our spices and oils (this was more helpful than I can say!).
  • Found a better location for the TV.
  • Setup storage areas and an art station for the kids.

5th RV Remodel – 5th Wheel

For this one we also did mostly cosmetic changes to make it more of a tiny home with a few bigger changes.

Took out the dinette and couch and replaced both of those. Craig built the table in order for it to be the exact size we needed.

Took the trim off of the slideouts and replaced it with a more fresh look!

Painted or wallpapered all of it.

Travel trailer – is one of the popular RV types. It is non-motorized and operated by hitching it to a tow vehicle. As a result , travel trailer becomes a flexible and effective choice. The double function of the tow vehicle enables campers to not have to drive their RV everywhere. Campers can easily unhitch their travel trailer at the campsite and drive around as a regular car or truck without the sizable baggage.

Travel trailers come in all kinds of sizes, from bunkhouse travel trailers that can house a family to the lightweight models. Deciding what kind of travel trailer to choose can be challenging especially for beginners. However, if you’re not planning to travel with a number of family, it will be wise to consider small travel trailers. Besides saving up budget and maintenance, it will be easier to haul a small travel trailer.

How Do You Decorate a Small Travel Trailer?

best travel trailers

If you’re an RV owner, it’s natural to want to decorate your RV. Not only to make your space personalized, it also serves to make your RV look homey. If you’re an owner of a small travel trailer, you have a limited space to decorate than other RVs. In short, it is important to ensure that no space goes to waste.

1. Brighten Your Space with Colors and Patterns

Since you own a small travel trailer , it may make your space looks suffocating. Adding bright color is a good idea to make your space look fresh. Don’t be afraid to splash more colors and experiment with them. Patterns are also important to bring character to your space. Your space will look fun if you combine bright colors and patterns.

You don’t have to paint your walls. You can make your space look lively by changing your pillowcases, blankets, curtains and rugs with vibrant colors and patterns.

2. Put Maps on Walls

RV is identical to travel. Putting a map is a good way to display your adventurous personality. It will make a good wallpaper that represents what your RV is about. For instance, you can put up your route map on your walls. Besides decorating your walls, you can also look at it when you get lost and your GPS isn’t working.

3. Decorate with Theme

In order to not make your small travel trailer look too much, it’s important to have a theme. There are many themes that you can pick to suit your taste. For example, themes such as western, nautical, and vintage are popular among campers.

4. Display Personal Pictures

The space of your small travel trailer is personal. Displaying your pictures with family and friends is a good way to show that. By putting up your personal photos, your space will appear more comfortable. Using frames is a classic style, but there are many other DIYs that can present your pictures creatively. Hanging your pictures with a string and clips is a simple way to do it.

5. Use No-Sew Curtains

If you don’t know how to sew but still want to have a personal touch for curtains, then using no-sew curtains is a good idea. If you don’t want to spend too much for decorating, no-sew curtains will be up your alley.

6. Light with Flameless Candles

It’s dangerous to set up candles in your small travel trailer. However, flameless candles can be your best option since they use batteries instead. They will look as good as the wax candles and they are better because you don’t have to be cautious for potential burning.

7. Put Up Wall Arts

Wall arts are a good way to express your personality. You can hang your favorite painting or you can also put up your favorite quotes. Frame them with wall plaques and display them on your walls.

8. Place Souvenirs

Rugs are essential to decorate your floor. You can make unique quilts to make your floor look beautiful. Another option is using a rubber mat or other durable clothes since RV has a lot of traffic of people going in and out.

9. Decorate Exterior

Choosing to travel with RV shows that you value journey. You can display your souvenirs in your small travel trailer as tokens of how far you’ve been travelling. Just because you have a small travel trailer doesn’t mean your journey is small as well. It will also give remembrance of places you have visited.

10. Don’t Forget The Outside!

Decorating your RV isn’t just about the interior. You will also spend a lot of time outside. You can bring out unique chairs and side tables when you lounge around. Hanging flags and decorative lights will make your small travel trailer stands out and beautiful as well.

How Do You Organize a Small Travel Trailer?

ultra mini travel trailers

It can get chaotic when you have to bring a lot of stuffs and fit them inside a small travel trailer. Clutters can be stressful to see, so it’s important to learn how to organize. There are many tips to keep your space organized, such as:

1. Keep a List of Inventory

As you travel farther away, you will eventually pile things inside your space. The accumulation will make your small travel trailer cramped. Especially when you’re a hoarder, you will easily crowd your space in no time. So, make sure to check and evaluate all of your stuffs regularly and throw out items that aren’t necessary to keep. You don’t actually have to throw them away, you can leave them at your house or even better, donate them. If you’re in need of money, you can also sell them. It’s always a win-win situation. Only then you will be able to move around freely.

2. Specify Space for Everything

The key of declutter is to categorize your stuffs neatly. Things that lay around will make your space look messy. So, make sure you have a place even for small things.

3. Apply One in, One out

One in, one out is a rule meaning that you don’t have unnecessary extras. Inexperienced travellers will bring too many clothes and shoes. Remember that you have a small space to fit many things.

4. Create a Cleaning Day

Dirty RV is really uncomfortable to live in. Therefore, it’s important to make a schedule where you clean your RV. Don’t underestimate your small travel trailer, it still needs an effort to clean.

5. Utilize Walls and Ceiling

Keeping your items is not only inside drawers. Since you have a small travel trailer, every space is valuable to use. So, start hanging your stuffs on your walls and even your ceiling. You don’t have to use any nail or hammer, you can put them up by using magnet or sticking them.

6. Store Papers

When you travel, you will get a lot of brochures. Letting them laying around will make your small travel trailer look messy. You will also need to store your magazines and maps so they won’t scatter around.

7. Get Hooks

You can’t keep everything inside your drawers. Besides, by putting hooks you will have easy access to your items. For example, hanging your keys, glasses and hats on your door so you can take them easily. It’s also important to keep hooks inside your bathroom for towels.

8. Go digital

In this modern age, you can convert many things into digital. For example, ditching conventional maps with GPS is very helpful. If you love reading books and magazines, you don’t need to bring their physical bulks and start downloading e-books instead.

9. Store Food inside Plastic Storage

It’s important to categorize everything inside your small travel trailer. That includes food. Besides keeping them organized based on types, it will also prevent your food from going bad.

Customizing a Small Travel Trailer

used travel trailers under $5000

1. Buy a New RV Mattress

Sleep is important to ensure that you rest well and are able to continue your trip with high spirits. However, original mattresses in RV are not in superb quality, least to say. It will be a good idea to exchange the mattress with a custom made. One website that offers the service is Tochta .

2. Ditch the Carpet

If you prefer efficiency and don’t want to bother with dirty carpets, it will be best to ditch them completely. Travelling with RV will bring a lot of dirt inside wherever your destination is.

3. Install Solar Power

You will not always have sufficient electricity when travelling with RV. Installing solar power on your roof will not only make you have access to electricity. It’s also a renewable energy which is good for our planet.

4. Install Wireless RV Backup Camera

This may be expensive to include in your budgeting, but safety is the top priority. It’s difficult to back up with your sizeable RV. Wireless RV backup camera will make this process less scary and safer.

5. Switch Lights

Lighting is important during nighttime. LED light bulbs are a good choice since they’re eco-friendly. That’s because they consume less power. Moreover, they can be dimmed and they also can produce infrared light.

6. Upgrade Inverter

Having a source of power is important to make your travel comfortable. Upgrading inverter is important in order to store more electricity.

7. Bring More Batteries

Still on topic with power source, it’s important to keep more batteries in case you run out of electricity. Therefore, increasing your battery capacity is very wise to do.

8. Switch Shower and Faucet Heads

Just like original RV mattresses, shower and faucet heads of RV also suffer the same inadequate quality. So, it’s important to replace the heads with better quality so you’ll be able to take shower comfortably. Upgraded shower and faucet heads will surely keep your adventurous mood up.

9. Install Pull Out Garbage Can

It’s unnecessary to place your garbage can outside when you can install a pull out garbage can instead. It will save some space for your small travel trailer. In addition, the trash will be hidden so it won’t make your RV smell bad.

10. Get Unlimited Internet Access

Internet is really important nowadays, so make sure you make your WiFi access becomes unlimited. Especially when you also need to use internet a lot for work, this becomes a must.

11. Increase Stabilization

It can get really shaky with RV, especially when people keep moving around. It’s a great idea to install stabilization rods. By increasing stabilization, you will not drop your stuffs and you will be able to rest well.

This Luxurious Travel Trailer Has Better Interior Style Than Most Homes

It was designed like a permanent, high-end dwelling, perfect for off-grid living.

Patio Living Vehicle Trailer by Emerson Bailey

Travel trailers have come a long way in terms of style and function. Some might even have better interior design than most homes. Take for example, this high-style trailer designed by Susan Weiss, interior designer and founder of Denver/Bozeman-based Emerson Bailey .

Kitchen Living Vehicle Trailer by Emerson Bailey

Emily Minton Redfield

The project came to Susan when she was having a conversation with a friend who is also in the design industry and an avid outdoorsman. Her friend was looking for mobile living options to complement his adventurous lifestyle, and after doing research, they came across the company Living Vehicle .

“The architecture and engineering of Living Vehicle is aimed towards full-time living and is designed intentionally to meet the needs of full-time use,” Susan explains. “While significant attention was devoted to the special and operational features of the design, there was a need to enhance the interiors to align with my client’s desire for a more luxurious living experience. I was enlisted to come in and pair the Living Vehicle’s top-of-the-line functionality with exceptional interior design.”

Dining Nook Living Vehicle Trailer by Emerson Bailey

Susan and her client saw the potential of the trailer, believing it could be more not just a vehicle but a full-time home. “Our goals were to design an interior that embraced adventure for those who viewed their living spaces not merely as utilitarian necessities but as extensions of their lifestyle and identity, and offered them a higher level of comfort and luxury,” Susan says. “Living Vehicle was not just a means of comfortable transportation, it needed to feel like home, with an added level of comfort and luxury.”

Bedroom View Living Vehicle Trailer by Emerson Bailey

After looking at different layouts from Living Vehicle, her client chose a model that worked for his specific goals. After that, it was up to Susan to make it feel even more homey and in line with her client’s style. She and her team upgraded the standard surfaces to higher-end materials ; swapped out the original plastic roller shades for woven wood window treatments; brought in down-wrapped cushions in durable outdoor fabric; and made an effort to include organic materials.

Closet Living Vehicle Trailer by Emerson Bailey

“Every detail was meticulously curated to evoke the elegance sought after by the client. These carefully considered details transformed a standard mobile living space into a home that redefines luxury living on the move,” Susan says.

Bedroom Living Vehicle Trailer by Emerson Bailey

Of course, designing a camper isn’t the same as designing a home, and that was something that Susan had to get used to. “There was a lot to take into consideration such as material weight, stability of furnishings during transit, as well as the need for dual/multi usage,” she explains. “All these factors together demanded a level of incredible attention to detail. Collaborating with contractors unfamiliar with mobile living and vehicles added an extra layer of complexity. This prompted us to get creative and explore new workarounds and bespoke solutions to seamlessly translate residential home concepts into a mobile setting.”

Shower Living Vehicle Trailer by Emerson Bailey

When it comes to the finished design, Susan’s client is ecstatic about the luxurious mobile living experience that is tailored to his interests and lifestyle. “He no longer had to pack and prep leading up to a weekend adventure, now everything he needed was conveniently at his fingertips,” Susan says.

Bathroom Living Vehicle Trailer by Emerson Bailey

And as for RV/camper decorating and design tips she learned while working on the project, Susan shared five:

1. Consider the type of usage and amount of time that this mobile living space will be used. This is a key factor in approaching the design.

2. The more functional and comfortable the design is, the more it will be used and of course enjoyed by all who experience it. Oftentimes design is a balance of form and function. This is an example where it is critical given the space restrictions .

Living Vehicle Trailer by Emerson Bailey

3. Select your materials thoughtfully. Are they durable and easy to clean? I firmly believe that every design should be beautiful and achieving this also requires careful consideration to ensure functionality and practicality while maintaining beauty.

4. Consider the client’s personal feelings towards comfort, what makes the home special and unique for them, and their perception of essential luxuries. Transforming a Living Vehicle into a luxurious haven on the road is entirely possible when it is tailored to meet the client’s expectations. With the appropriate budget, refrain from cutting corners or approaching it as just another home project. Given the limited space it is important to make every detail count to maximize functionality and luxury.

5. Have fun with it! Enjoy the process because it is an incredible opportunity to be creative and resourceful in an entirely different way than you are used to.
