Live Shows on the Disney Wish: A Full Review

Sharing is caring!

Grand Hall on the Disney Wish

Disney Cruise Line offers a variety of activities , unlike what guests will find on any other cruise line. The Disney Wish, DCL’s newest ship , offers some fresh & unique offerings not found on the other four ships. Let’s review the live, Broadway-style, shows on the Disney Wish.

The Walt Disney Theatre

Entrance to the Walt Disney Theatre on the Disney Wish

Disney Cruise Line features awarding winning stage productions across its entire fleet. The Disney Wish is no different, featuring three incredible shows inside the Walt Disney Theatre. Spanning three decks, this 1,274-seat theatre is inspired by scenes from Fantasia , with an enchanted forest theme. It is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including projection mapping and a Dolby Atmos 3D audio system, which is a first of its kind at sea! Just outside the theatre, on Deck 3, guests can purchase refreshments including popcorn, candy, soda, and alcoholic beverages, at Preludes.

Preludes bar on the Disney Wish

While the theatre is capable of hosting movie viewings and onboard acts like comedians and musicians, it will primarily be used to feature three stage shows: Disney Seas the Adventure , Disney The Little Mermaid , and Disney’s Aladdin – A Musical Spectacular . The Walt Disney Theatre features an amazing cast of live performers. You’ll be in awe of the acting, singing, and dancing. Not to mention some amazing puppetry, lighting, and sound effects.

Each show is performed twice on its given evening. Once around 6pm for guest with Second Dining, and again around 8:30pm for guests with Main Dining. This allows all guests the opportunity to view the show before or after their assigned dining time. Guest can see shows times in the DCLNavigator app, or on boards right outside the theatre. While the theatre is big enough to hold everyone who wishes to view the shows, guests wanting to seat front and center should plan to arrive around 30 minutes early.

Disney Seas the Adventure

Disney Seas the Adventure Musical on Disney Cruise Line

During the first evening of your sailing, the Walt Disney Theatre welcomes you to enjoy Disney Seas the Adventure . This brand-new show debuted with the Disney Wish and should not be missed! Grab a seat and be prepared for a journey through some of your favorite Disney stories! While Captain Minnie is busy setting up a surprise for the ship’s guests, Goofy takes over the helm and steers the Wish into waters unknown!

Captain Minnie Mouse meets guests on the Disney Wish

Does Goofy have what it takes to keep the ship on the right course, or will he wander off? This show is filled with so many of the most beloved Disney songs and characters. Goofy travels down the Eastern Australian Current where Crush & Squirt demonstrate how to go with the flow. Elsa, Merida, & Moana show him that he can command his own journey by remaining brave. Tiana teaches him that hard work is what it takes to get to where he wants to go. And Hercules is there to remind him that he has the strength to take on any challenge. By the time confetti is raining down during the finale, you’ll be ready to dance and sing along.

Moana on the Disney Wish

Disney Seas the Adventure is the type of show that brings people back to Disney Cruise Line over and over. It is the perfect blend of amazing live performances, Disney storytelling, and nostalgia from your favorite Disney movies. Some of the other ‘jukebox’ musicals featured on the other ships can feel like a hodgepodge of random songs thrown together. This one though has a clear story with a powerful message, blended with amazing music.

Who should watch

Everyone! This is a show that everyone in your sailing party will love. Whether your sailing with your whole family, or enjoying an adults-only getaway – guests of all ages will enjoy the upbeat music and seeing their favorite characters. It is a perfect way to kick off your sailing. You could watch this show every time you sail on the Wish and it would never grow old!

Disney The Little Mermaid

The Little Mermaid musical on Disney Cruise Line

Another brand-new show for Disney Cruise Line is Disney The Little Mermaid . This modern-telling of a Disney classic opens on a group of travelling storytellers who have stumbled upon a treasure-chest. Full of human trinkets of course – whozits & whatzits included! The storytellers are so inspired by the chest’s belongings, they bring the story of The Little Mermaid to life. While the story has been modernized, guests will recognize all their favorite songs and characters from the original film.

New arrangements of beloved songs “Part of Your World”, “Under the Sea”, and “Poor Unfortunate Souls” are stand-outs. The set design and use of projection mapping transform the theatre into an enchanting underwater world.

While the show features some impressive puppetry and incredible vocal performances, it does fall a little flat in some areas. The story is so familiar that it can feel stale at times and some of the “reimagination” doesn’t seem to be fully conceived. The transition from storytellers to Little Mermaid characters and back is a little unclear and may leave younger guests confused. During one scene, Ursula is lifted up by a large robotic arm in an attempt to show her growing into a large monster. This is a call back to a similar scene in the movie. But it comes off as clunky, and well robotic. The show has a lot of promise and with a few minor tweaks, we think it could be a stand-out show for DCL.

Everyone who has never seen it before. Considering this show is new to the Wish, even the most seasoned DCL sailors have likely not seen The Little Mermaid in the Walt Disney Theatre.  It still has all the wonderful qualities Disney Cruise Line shows are known for – powerful signing, fantastic choreography, amazing sets, and Broadway-level production value. After seeing it you’ll can judge  if you’ll want to watch it again or not.

Disney’s Aladdin – A Musical Spectacular

Set of Disney's Aladdin - A Musical Spectacular onboard the Disney WIsh

Looking to go on an adventure to a whole new world ? Well then Disney’s Aladdin – A Musical Spectacular is just for you! Based on the 1992 animated film, the show opens at the entrance of the cave of wonders. Here we meet Jafar and Iago who are struggling to find a diamond-in-the-rough capable of retrieving the magic lamp. From there guests are taken on a familiar magic carpet ride through Agrabah.

Aladdin needs help from the Genie to get Jasmine to fall in love with him but to also defeat the Jafar. Even more so than The Little Mermaid , Aladdin feels very similar to the original, just in a condensed format. The show does feature an original song “To Be Free”. This a solo performed by Jasmine that was introduced in the Disney California Adventure’s Hyperion Theater production of Disney’s Aladdin: A Musical Spectacular.

Aladdin & Jasmine take a magic carpet ride on the ceiling of the Keg & Compass on the Disney Wish

Musical numbers are great but some of the design and special effects feel very outdated. During “One Jump”, Aladdin exits the stage only to come back from up high on a visible cable moving in slow-motion across the stage. This is meant to replicate his big jump from the movie, but it does not translate well to the stage. And while it’s more comedic than the other DCL shows, the Genie character feels forced and over-the-top.

While it is a decent show, we think it would be better reimagined based on the live action Aladdin starring Will Smith, Mena Massoud, and Naomi Scott to give it a fresh spin. Disney’s Aladdin – A Musical Spectacular is also featured on the Disney Fantasy, though minor updates were made before it debuted on the Wish. We also missed our favorite monkey – Abu – who is not featured in the show at all.

DCL First-timers & musical theatre lovers. If this is your first time sailing with Disney, and you want to get the full experience – you should make an effort to see all the performances in the. Likewise, if you are someone who appreciates musicals, particularly Disney ones, you’ll enjoy this re-telling. However, considering the shorter itineraries (3- & 4-nights) that the Wish is currently sailing, it may be hard for you to find the time to do everything. If you want to skip one of the shows – in order to participate in other activities – this is the one to miss.

Final Thoughts

Disney Cruise Line gathers some of the most talented performers from across the world. Their performances alone are worth the time to check out a show in the Walt Disney World Theatre. The shows presented on Disney ships are also so unique when compared to the rest of the cruise industry. The wonderful Disney story-teller and power-house music that the company is known and loved for is never more present than in the Walt Disney Theatre. Guests of all ages and cruising experience levels are sure to enjoy these magnificent productions. However, your time onboard is limited and you may have to make some sacrifices. We hope this review was helpful in guiding you towards setting your cruise entertainment priority!

Two New Broadway Style Shows on The Disney Wish

Disney Wish's Disney Seas the Adventure

The Disney Wish has been sailing for a few weeks now and we have had a chance to see some of the new features of the ship. One thing that Disney Cruises are known for are the Broadway way quality shows. The Disney Wish has two new shows onboard “Disney Seas the Adventure” and “The Little Mermaid”. Disney’s Aladdin – A Musical Spectacular will be joining the line up soon.

Disney Wish's Disney Seas the Adventure

Krissy Nocerino from the The Disney Parks Blog reports “When you take your seat in the Walt Disney Theatre on the first night of your voyage, you’ll experience a lively musical celebration, featuring a bevy of bold and brave Disney and Pixar characters. “ Disney Seas the Adventure ” begins with our very own Captain Minnie Mouse handing over the helm of the ship to her dear friend Goofy.

As Goofy embarks on a journey to discover his own inner captain, he encounters special friends who teach him valuable lessons, including Tiana who explains the importance of hard work during a lively performance of “ Almost There ” from Disney Animation’s “The Princess and the Frog” as well as Crush and Squirt who teach him how to “Go with the Flow”, just like they do in the world of Pixar’s “Finding Nemo.” Plus, heroines Elsa, Moana and Merida perform a powerful medley of “Into the Unknown,” “ How Far I’ll Go ” and “Touch the Sky.”

Through playful interactions and a roster of iconic songs, you and your family are sure to have a great time … and you might just end up on your … what do you call ’em? Oh—feet! Because this show certainly deserves a standing ovation!

Disney Wish The Little Mermaid

Developed exclusively for the Disney Wish, “ Disney The Little Mermaid ” is a unique stage adaptation of the original 1989 Disney Animation film. You might recognize the songs, scenes and characters, but this show has been reimagined in a delightful new way.

Disney Wish The Little Mermaid

The curtain opens on a group of modern-day storytellers, who happen to come across a treasure chest full of whozits and whatzits galore. From there, you’ll become part of Ariel’s world during an immersive story about independence, identity and love. With state-of-the-art puppetry, an innovative script and a score full of surprises, this is a show your whole family will enjoy.”

The Disney Wish is the other most recent addition to Disney's fleet of ships and the Disney Treasure is making similar strides in offering the best entertainment for guests to enjoy.

Disney Cruise Line Broadway Quality Shows

Little Mermaid Disney WIsh

Entertainment on the Disney Cruise Line is often compared to the quality of a Broadway show with the live stage performances that take place throughout the cruise. The Disney Treasure will feature two familiar classic stage shows beloved on other Disney Cruise ships but will also debut a brand new show!

Let's talk through all thee details on this new Broadway-style show plus what other quality Disney entertainment can be found on the Disney Treasure when it sets sail in 2024.

Walt Disney Theatre

Disney Treasure Shows

All three live stage performances take place inside the Walt Disney Theatre onboard the Disney Treasure. This “show palace” will come alive with these performances as guests get to enjoy Broadway-caliber performances during their cruise. These performances will likely take place in the evenings ensuring all guests can experience their favorite stage show.

As you can see from the photo above, the Walt Disney Theatre is just like a typical theatre of the arts which makes this experience even more special.

Beauty and the Beast Stage Show

Disney Treasure Stage Show

The Disney Treasure will feature the popular Beauty and the Beast stage show inspired by the live-action Beauty and the Beast Disney film. This popular show is part of the already impressive lineup of Broadway-caliber stage productions on the Disney Cruise Line ships and is currently aboard the Disney Dream.

The Beauty and the Beast stage show holds true to the original as it focuses on the story of Belle and the Beast including favorite songs along with the two songs written by Alan Menken and Tim Rice for the reimagined film. This live production includes innovative puppetry, cutting-edge theatrical design, and breakthrough story-telling techniques. The show is a nice blend of tributes to original animated classic along with the incorporation of new elements from the live-action that guests will love.

Seas the Adventure Show

Disney Treasure Shows

Seas the Adventure is the live stage performance playing on the Disney Treasure which is a shared performance with the Disney Wish.

The musical performance focuses on an adventure with Goofy steering the ship to encounter popular Disney characters and fan favorites. Highlights include Princess Tiana performing her song “Almost There” and Crush and Squirt from Finding Nemo showing Goofy how to “Go with the Flow” in a rendition of the song from the musical live adaptation from Animal Kingdom. There will also be an original arrangement of Disney heroines that is exclusive to the show as Elsa, Moana, and Merida perform a powerful medley of “Into the Unknown,” “How Far I’ll Go” and “Touch the Sky.”

This show is typically played on the first night aboard the Disney Wish as a way to send guests off with the ultimate Disney “kiss goodnight” as they start their Disney Cruise. I imagine we'll see a similar sendoff aboard the Disney Treasure.

New Stage Show Coming to Disney Treasure

Disney Treasure Moana

Disney has announced that there will also be a brand new third show created just for the Disney Treasure! In December 2024, the brand-new Broadway-style production will be called “Disney The Tale of Moana.” This new Moana show is exclusive to the Disney Treasure and will tell the story of Moana's adventure to save her island and restore the heart of Te Fiti. This new show will feature favorite characters like Gramma Tala, Maui and Tamatoa on the stage plus favorite songs from the film's iconic soundtrack.

The new Moana show will feature towering puppets by the puppet designers who worked on Disney’s Tony Award-winning musical “The Lion King” on Broadway. Te Kā will be a puppet of a scale Disney Cruise Line has never before produced. This same giant Te Kā puppet will transform into the gentle island goddess of Te Fiti once Moana restores her heart. Moana and Maui will perform “Warrior Face” along with other classic favorites from the soundtrack like “You’re Welcome,” “We Know The Way” and “How Far I’ll Go.” The music of the show also includes a mix of languages including Tuvaluan, Tokelauan, and Samoan.

The set design of Motunui will be inspired by the cultures of the Pacific Islands and the spirit of Gramma Tala will be the narrator throughout the show. The show sounds breathtaking, especially the song “How Far I'll Go,” with the stage demonstrating Moana's Journey with stars overhead, and a glowing manta ray to symbolize the spirit of Gramma Tala.

A new stage production is exciting for any new Disney Cruise Line ship and will prompt guests to begin researching their early 2024 itineraries and book their cruise.

Disney Wish Cruise

Technology built into the theater aboard Disney cruise ship the Wish has given creative teams the ability to produce three Broadway-caliber shows on the ocean.

Rui Rita, lighting designer for the productions “Disney Seas the Adventure,” “Disney the Little Mermaid” and “Disney’s Aladdin — A Musical Spectacular,” says the theater’s advanced LED system helped the crew maximize design potential. “This affords us the highest degree of variety [of] looks possible, allowing deep, lush colors as well as light tints,” notes Rita. “It also allows us to dial in the exact color of light that complements each fabric choice, paint color and makeup tint.”

In a process that Kelly Benton, who produces the three shows, calls “painting with light,” the designs draw attention to specific areas within a production. Citing “The Little Mermaid” as an example, Benton points to “undersea” moments that feature blues and greens that would make the costume colors seem off or create a black light-style effect where they glow distractingly. But the theater’s technology, like a top lighting board on land, can highlight bright costumes, like the ones worn by Ariel’s sisters, giving them a range of hues. “You see these color [light] shafts that accent and bounce off of the set and the costumes,” says Benton.

Building on the standard palette that illuminates production designer Robert Brill’s set-pieces, including a rock, a sandcastle and a treasure chest, the lighting design can transform the objects by suggesting, for instance, a rock bathed in sunlight; projections can help the audience see the same rock as appearing to be under the sea. As the pieces are moved around the set, embedded trackers ensure that the video projections move with them, regardless of where they wind up onstage.

Popular on Variety

Some of the costumes come with a bit of magic too. To accomplish Ariel’s onstage transition from mermaid to human, designer Christine Burchett Butler created a special tail with a series of hidden snaps and releases for actor Stephanie Zaharis. As Ursula’s minions crisscross the stage around Ariel, they affect the dramatic transition, revealing Zaharis’ legs under a simple skirt.

Benton adds that the trick tail is indiscernible from the original costume. “Nobody would know the difference,” he says.

Your Guide to the Entertainment on the Disney Wish

by Kelly Coffey-Behrens | Nov 29, 2023 | Disney Cruise Line , Disney Wish

We’re sharing your guide to all of the Disney Wish entertainment available onboard, including Broadway-style shows, movies, and more.

Disney Cruise Line offers a wide variety of experiences for those onboard. From Broadway-style shows to fun-filled deck parties, there is always something for Guests of all ages. On Disney’s newest ship, the Disney Wish , voyagers can experience some entertainment offerings that cannot be found on any other Disney Cruise Line ship.

Disney Wish Entertainment

In this guide, we will touch base on every entertainment offering on the Disney Wish, and what Guests should expect before embarking on your Disney Cruise Line vacation.

The Sail Away Party

Every Disney Cruise Line ship has a Sail Away party that marks the moment your vacation begins! As the ship prepares to leave the port, join Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, and the rest of the gang as they put on a fun-filled show. The Fairy Godmother then encourages everyone to wave their magic wands before counting down for the ship’s horn playing the notes from “When You Wish Upon a Star” and leaving your Port of Call.

This is the perfect way to start your Disney Cruise Line vacation. The party does get busy as it is the only Sail Away party offered during your cruise, so make sure to get onto the pool decks as early as possible. (Pro tip: Instead of watching the Sail Away party from the pool deck, go up one more level and watch from the balcony. It usually does not get as crowded up top, plus you can see everything from a bird’s eye view rather than trying to watch over other people’s heads.)

Seas the Adventure

Taking place in the Walt Disney Theatre, this original Broadway-style show takes Guests on a magical journey as Captain Minnie puts Goofy in charge so that he can find his own inner captain. Sail in uncharted waters as Goofy finds beloved Disney characters to help him learn about all the characteristics that make for a great captain.

First, Goofy visits Tiana from The Princess and the Frog , who teaches him the power of making dreams come true through hard work. Of course, the lesson would not be complete without a performance of Tiana’s hit, “Almost There.” Next, it’s time to “Go with the Flow” with Crush and Squirt – the tubular turtles from Finding Nemo .

But what makes this show so special is that it includes an original arrangement exclusive to ‘Seas the Adventure.’, Watch Elsa, Moana, and Merida come together to perform a powerful medley of “Into the Unknown,” “How Far I’ll Go” and “Touch the Sky” from their respective films.

Photo courtesy of Disney Cruise Line

Goofy ends up losing his way as he goes “Into the Unknown,” where self-doubt starts to take over. Luckily, he runs into Hercules and other Disney heroes who help Goofy gain the courage to “Go the Distance.”

Of course, a Disney show wouldn’t be complete without a powerful finale. Disney characters will come out and join Captain Minnie and Goofy on stage before they lead Guests out of the Walt Disney Theatre and into the Grand Hall for an unforgettable experience—the ultimate “kiss goodnight” (exclusive to the Disney Wish.)

Kiss Goodnight

Occurring every evening at 10 PM, 11 PM, and 12 AM, Guests can gather in the lobby atrium where they will hear Cinderella’s classic song, “So This Is Love,” beautifully sung by Ilene Woods.

Lights will then illuminate the ceiling along with the music. The iconic chandelier will twinkle overhead as Guests watch up in amazement. The entire atrium brings in shades of blue and white, fit perfectly for Cinderella, which also provides a soothing atmosphere as they change to the music.

But when the clock strikes “midnight,” Guests will hear the chimes to bring the feeling that the night has come to an end. Cinderella’s voice then comes over the speakers and says it is almost midnight. The lights continue to light up the walls and ceiling, as the music then fades out. Although this version of the Kiss Goodnight is a very short experience, it is one of the most magical experiences aboard the Disney Wish.

The Little Mermaid

Another one of the Broadway-style shows will take Guests under the sea as they watch a stunning performance of Disney’s animated classic  The Little Mermaid . Get ready to rediscover the adventure, music, and magic of the classic 1989 film thanks to this Broadway-style production, which was developed exclusively for the Disney Wish!

Dive under the sea for a one-of-a-kind adaptation of the Disney animated classic The Little Mermaid , featuring everyone’s favorite mermaid, Ariel. The retelling of this Disney classic begins after a group of storytellers finds an enchanted treasure chest. They look through the chest and discover the whozits and whatzits within, which is when the story of The Little Mermaid comes to life.

The red-headed mermaid will take Guests along as she explores the forbidden shore above. Of course, she falls in love with a human prince, Prince Eric. Just like in the movie, Ariel gives up her voice to the sea witch, Ursula, as she makes a deal to get human legs. But, unless she and the prince can share a true love’s kiss before the sun sets in 3 days, Ariel will have to serve the sea witch forever.

Disney’s Aladdin – A Musical Spectacular

The last Broadway-style show offered on the Disney Wish is Disney’s Aladdin – A Musical Spectacular. Just like the Little Mermaid  show, Disney’s Aladdin – A Musical Spectacular takes Guests into the animated classic for a retelling of the story of Disney’s “Aladdin.”

The show opens in the iconic Cave of Wonders as the audience sees Jafar thinking of a plan in order to get his hands on the magic lamp that lies within. He must find the “diamond in the rough” – Aladdin, a so-called street rat who has fallen for Princess Jasmine.

Jafar tricks Aladdin into entering the Cave of Wonders to obtain the magic lamp, which is where he meets Genie, who grants him three wishes since he is the one who rubbed the lamp. This show-stopping rendition of Aladdin will have the audience clapping and singing along to some of the iconic songs from the film before leaving the Walt Disney Theater smiling from ear to ear.

“The Disney Treasure will bring brand-new stories to life, blending one-of-a-kind experiences with the extraordinary entertainment, world-class dining and unparalleled hospitality that make every sailing so memorable,” said Sharon Siskie, senior vice president and general manager, Disney Cruise Line. “As we chart a course for adventure, we’re so excited for families to discover the excitement and exploration that awaits onboard the sixth ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet.”

“Adventure awaits!” ~ Captain Minnie

2 – Sister Ship to the Disney Wish

Since the Disney Treasure is the sister ship to the Disney Wish, which debuted in 2022, guests will find many fan-favorite familiar spaces of the Wish, now themed to adventure. From bow to stem, the entire ship immerses guests in Disney storytelling inspired by beloved Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar and Disney Parks adventures to life like never before. The spaces onboard the Disney Treasure will invite guests to step into colorful plazas in Mexico, navigate the many winding rivers of the world, dive below the ocean’s surface, and more. Adventure awaits guests on the Disney Treasure.

Brand New Dining & Entertainment

Adventures from the vibrant, heartfelt worlds of Disney and Pixar will lend inspiration for two venues onboard the Disney Treasure. Marvel Fans will enjoy a new exclusive show aboard the Disney Treasure.

3 – Plaza de Coco

When it was announced that a new and first-of-its-kind theatrical dining experience themed to the Disney and Pixar film, “Coco” was coming to the Disney Treasure, there were many cheers in our theater! It’s so exciting to see “Coco” get some serious love from Disney and guests aboard the Treasure will be able to enjoy two unique dining experiences during their seven-night cruises at Plaza de Coco.

disney cruise line broadway shows

This theater-in-the-round entertainment venue will feature dining tables surrounding a central stage, with performances and show effects that will spread throughout the room. The story of Miguel and his familia will continue where it left off on screen as they gather in Mariachi Plaza to take guests on a colorful, music-filled journey that celebrates family memories and togetherness with a dinner menu of modern twists on traditional Mexican fare and a lineup of live entertainment. Families will be invited to join Miguel, his parents, Enrique and Luisa, and Abuelita Elena for a festive gathering that honors the heritage of music and love that runs deep in the Rivera family.

Families will also gather for a second night of food and entertainment at Plaza de Coco, where Miguel will reunite with his great-great grandparents, Hector and Mama Imelda, by transporting them to the town square in Santa Cecilia with the help of his magic guitar. Together, Miguel and his ancestors will celebrate Día de los Muertos – Rivera family style, with a unique lineup of memorable songs from the film.

Take a look at the cast member costumes below! We are very excited for this dining experience.

4 – Jumbeaux’s Sweets

Next, the sweetshop, Jumbeaux’s Sweets, will be reminiscent of the popular ice cream parlor, Jumbeaux Café, from the bustling mammal metropolis featured in Disney’s “Zootopia.” Surrounded by playful pink interiors, Victorian-style architecture and an endearing sculpture of Officer Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde, guests will be served humor and heart by the cone full. From bunnies and elephants to sloths and foxes, all are welcome to indulge in more than 20 flavors of handmade gelato, 16 flavors of ice cream and sorbets, specialty treats, candies and more.

5 – Worlds of Marvel – New Exclusive 2 nd Show on the Disney Treasure

Another exciting dining adventure on the Disney Treasure will be Worlds of Marvel, Disney Cruise Line’s immersive Marvel-themed dining experience. This fan-favorite show, which debuted on the Disney Wish, celebrates favorite Avengers characters and stories, including an amazing interaction with Spider-Man. Because of the seven-night itineraries, the Disney Treasure will offer an exclusive second show, menu, and special entertainment, all inspired by the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We loved our time at Worlds of Marvel on the Disney Wish and are very excited to check out the second show on the Disney Treasure.

Disney Theme Park Adventures on the High Seas

For the first time, the nostalgia and lore from beloved theme park attractions will come to Disney Cruise Line with a unique lineup of Disney Parks-inspired venues aboard the Disney Treasure.

6 – Skipper Society

Fans of Disney Parks’ iconic Jungle Cruise will be thrilled to learn that a new themed lounge near the Grand Hall, Skipper Society, is coming to the Disney Treasure. Nothing says adventure more than the Jungle Cruise and its trusty, dry-witted skippers who lead world-famous tours across treacherous waterways. It’s the first time Disney will bring the attraction to sea. The Skipper Society will offer natural colorways and camp-style furnishings, paired with sly tributes to the Skippers, which will offer an elevated yet playful atmosphere. Guests will discover references to the famous attraction throughout the space, from a whimsical monkey-shaped chandelier to postcards and luggage tags brought back from travels abroad. Beneath a canopy of untamed jungle foliage, guests will indulge in themed cocktails and light snacks and enjoy live entertainment.

We heard from Daniel Cowan, Senior Manager, Dining Standards and Service Excellence, Disney Cruise Line, who shared they have exciting food and beverages planned, including a hand-held waffle that looks amazing. It will be a different experience than, say, Trader Sam’s at Walt Disney World and Disneyland.

7 – Periscope Pub

Another announcement that brought cheers was that Disney Cruise Line will debut the Periscope Pub. The lounge will become Disney Cruise Line’s first venue inspired by the spellbinding adventure of Walt Disney’s 1954 film, “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea,” and the celebrated Disney Parks attraction that was open at Walt Disney World from 1971 to 1994.

disney cruise line broadway shows

During our time on the Wish, we had the chance to experience this space and see what it would be like on the Disney Treasure with a Virtual Reality headset. The design of the submarine-style interiors will call upon 19th-century steampunk influences with polished metals and industrial touches throughout. The colors and design of the space are fantastic all the way down to the rug, which will be embroidered with a bold print to honor Captain Nemo’s fabled nemesis, the giant squid. The coolest spot in the space is the entire ceiling, where you can look out and see the ocean since you’ve been transported under the sea! This casual venue will be the ideal onboard locale for guests to unwind and watch live sports, news, and major broadcast events while ordering from a menu of craft brews and light bites.

8 – Paging Mr. Morrow

The last space on the Disney Treasure is inspired not by a theme park attraction but an entire theme park! The Tomorrow Tower Suite is inspired by the Walt Disney World Resort theme park, EPCOT, with an energetic design that embraces the adventures of the future. Throughout the suite, dynamic art pieces, molten metal accents, and futuristic, colorful glass accents will evoke the distinct atmosphere of EPCOT’s World Discovery neighborhood. Set high in the ship’s forward funnel, and this one-of-a-kind suite will overlook the top deck of the Disney Treasure and glimpse the unbounded open horizon through an expansive two-story window. With nearly 2,000 square feet of living space, the Tomorrow Tower Suite will comfortably sleep eight guests and feature designated areas for eating, sleeping, and playing, as well as other perks like a full kitchen and private ensuite elevator.

“Every adventure holds its own special kind of treasure.” ~ Grandma Quinn, the narrator of “Unlocking the Disney Treasure.”

Classic Disney Adventures in Familiar Spaces

There’s more adventure on the Disney Treasure with reimagined areas from classic Disney adventures.

9 – The Grand Hall

The Grand Hall is the heart of a Disney Cruise Line ship, and every space is unique. The Grand Hall of the Disney Treasure will embody the ship’s theme of adventure, with statues and décor that call on the gilded palace and wonder of Agrabah from Walt Disney Animation Studios’ classic tale, “Aladdin.” The space will serve as the ship’s most prominent gathering space and will offer its own dedicated entertainment moments and surprises.

disney cruise line broadway shows

The Grand Hall is another area where we were able to view what the Grand Hall will look like on the Disney Treasure. The colors are so rich and deep. We’re especially excited for the statue of Aladdin, Jasmine, and Magic Carpet that appears to float in the air. There are always great activities in the Grand Hall, and this “Aladdin” themed area is perfect for the Disney Treasure.

disney cruise line broadway shows

New Casual Walk-Up Cafes

Just off the Grand Hall, two casual walk-up cafes will serve a selection of coffee, tea, specialty beverages, and snacks. With brand-new themes, these elevated environments draw inspiration from two brave Disney Princesses – Moana and Mulan – and celebrate their adventures in all-new ways.

11 – Jake Cricket Café

Jade Cricket Café, inspired by the classic Disney film “Mulan,” will honor the Fa Family’s “lucky” cricket, Cri-Kee, who will be represented by a jade sculpture on the bar top. From the central moon gate to the plum blossom flowers adorning the walls, symbols of Mulan’s strength, beauty, and heritage can be found throughout the café’s design. The striking blue walls and glimmering metallic counters will also be reminiscent of Mulan’s armor.

12 – Heihei Cafe

Named for Moana’s trusty sidekick, Heihei Café will echo the scalloped seashells and reflective blue waters of the storied Southern Pacific Isle of Motunui as it’s portrayed in Disney’s animated feature “Moana.” The venue will feature furniture stylings that pay homage to a traditional construction technique used by the Polynesian people to craft seafaring vessels and offer an idyllic place for guests to energize their morning, regardless of how far they go during their next adventure.

10 – AquaMouse: Curse of the Golden Egg

The AquaMouse, Disney Cruise Line’s attraction at sea, debuted on the Disney Wish. Disney Cruise Line is bringing the AquaMouse: Curse of the Golden Egg to the Disney Treasure. Guests will experience an all-new adventure that follows Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse on a zany misadventure into an ancient temple. Guests will journey with the pair as they embark on a tour of mysterious ruins for a glimpse of the legendary treasure within and encounter a series of hilarious mishaps and booby traps that take the trek in unexpected directions. Suspended high above the upper decks, powerful jets will propel two-person ride vehicles through 760 feet of winding tubes, offering breathtaking views of the ocean and the ship below.

disney cruise line broadway shows

11 – Sarabi

Fans of the Disney Wish’s Luna will love the redesigned space on the Disney Treasure. Sarabi will be the central hub for a multitude of daytime activities and adult-exclusive evening entertainment and will evoke the natural beauty and openness of the savanna where its namesake, the lioness matriarch from Disney’s “The Lion King,” lived.

disney cruise line broadway shows

12 – Adventurous Accommodations

Finally, the artful accommodations aboard the Disney Treasure will be inspired by classic Disney tales of adventure. The 1,256 staterooms onboard will feature custom artwork and design elements that evoke the exploratory spirit of beloved Disney and Pixar films including “Aladdin,” “Pocahontas,” “Up” and “Encanto,” while the concierge and royal suites will bring to life the incredible character journeys – and some beloved feline sidekicks – from “The Lion King,” “The Jungle Book” and “Aladdin.”

Spotlight on … Connor Sullivan ’17

Connor Sullivan and other "Chicago" cast members

Connor Sullivan’s pathway to the stage began with his high school experience in Oshkosh.

“My incredible theatre teacher, Jim Hart, inspired me to pursue a career in the arts,” Sullivan said. “He ran a youth theatre program that focused on helping young people build self-confidence through performance. Jim was a huge inspiration to me both personally and professionally.”

Connor Sullivan

Fast forward to his college search, and Sullivan said that when he met with Rick Walters at Viterbo, he felt right at home.

“Rick made me feel comfortable and confident throughout the process of auditioning for and ultimately choosing Viterbo University’s music theatre program,” Sullivan said.

Sullivan gave a big shout-out to his college voice professor, also. “Karla Hughes taught me for four years, and she was instrumental in preparing me for my career as a performer,” he said. “Without her, I would not be where I am today.”

“The late Jeff Stolz also helped to create an incredible community outreach program,” Sullivan continued, crediting Stolz for connecting theatre students like himself with the local Boys & Girls Clubs, where theatre workshops and master classes engaged and developed students. “Jeff really believed in using the performing arts to inspire and connect people within the community, and I am lucky to have witnessed and been inspired by his legacy.”

Sullivan described the excitement that comes with traveling and seeing new cities and places, yet he also acknowledged that it can be difficult.

“You are on a bus for eight hours traveling from one city to another, so you often don’t have the conveniences of home,” he said. “It’s not the most comfortable or exciting part of the job, but it is certainly worth it.”

Speaking highly of his Viterbo education, Sullivan recommended students take all the classes they can.

“You can expand your skillset and learn what other people in the industry do, such as lighting or stage management,” he said. “You learn how to relate to people. Be kind. You don’t know where you will land. You don’t know what door you will end up going through. Be open to different people and experiences.”

One of Sullivan’s favorite roles and productions happens to be the one in which he is currently performing. He is playing Billy Flynn in the national Broadway tour of Chicago .

“I also enjoyed performing in live shows at Walt Disney World and for Disney Cruise Line,” he said. “Stage adaptations of iconic Disney movies like Beauty and the Beast, Tangled , and Cinderella were great experiences too.”

Sullivan met his wife, Brielle, during a production.

“She was Belle and I was Gaston in Beauty and the Beast when we both worked for Disney Cruise Line,” he said.

Follow Sullivan’s career on his website, connorsullivanactor.com , and on Instagram at @connorpsully .

The current tour of Chicago will run through May 19. The full itinerary can be found on www.chicagoontour.com .

Luxurious American cruise line provides a comfortable way to learn about U.S. history | Sandy Fenton

American Cruise Lines

You might not be familiar with the name, but American Cruise Lines has been taking guests to the country's most popular rivers and coastal waters for over 50 years. American Cruise LInes

  • Sandy Fenton | Special to PennLive

You don’t need to travel overseas to enjoy a river cruise vacation.

You might not be familiar with the name, but American Cruise Lines has been taking guests to America’s most popular rivers and coastal waters for over 50 years.

My husband and I recently returned home from a weeklong “Historic South & Golden Isles” sailing aboard the new, upscale and modern “American Eagle,” a 100-passenger coastal catamaran ship that departs from Amelia Island (Fernandina), Fla., and ends in Charleston, S.C.

Our itinerary also included port-of-calls in Brunswick, Ga., Savannah, Ga. (overnight), and Hilton Head and Beaufort, S.C., (overnight) as we cruised the Intracoastal Waterway taking in all the amazing Lowcountry scenery along the way.

Having loved our many European river cruises, I didn’t know what to expect cruising throughout the United States. Well, we’re sold. “American Eagle” exceeded our expectations.

American Cruise Lines is positioning itself as the number one choice for domestic and foreign adult travelers wanting a premium experience while learning more about American history and culture from a river, harbor and coastal water perspective.

American Cruise Lines is the only 100% all-American-owned and operated cruise company in the U.S. All ships are built in Salisbury, Md., and crewed by Americans. The company sails both rivers and coastal itineraries around the country, only visiting U.S. ports. Their guests (Eagle Society Members) keep coming back over and over again (75-80% were past passengers on our itinerary).

American Cruise Lines is all about small ships and all-inclusive cruising (90-180 passengers). They have 17 ships, with American “Liberty” and American “Legend” debuting this year, plus two more coming in 2025. In addition, ACL just purchased four paddle-boat ships from the recently defunct American Queen Voyages.

Popular itineraries and ports of call in 35 states spotlight the Columbia and Snake rivers, the entire East Coast from Maine to Florida, Alaska, the Mississippi River and its tributaries, New England islands and harbors, the Pacific Northwest and the Chesapeake Bay - with onboard resident historians and experts hosting port discussions and briefings on all sailings.

On our “American Eagle” sailing most guests were 60+, retired, well-traveled, active and eager to discover new ports and explore the historic river towns along the way. These “Eagle Society” members have already “done that, been there” when it comes to travel, especially cruising. Many have circumnavigated the world by land, river and sea.

Nowadays, they still have the time, money and energy/good health to travel, but prefer to stay in the United States, closer to home, and do not need (or want) over-the-top, opulent surroundings with personal butlers and sommeliers, nor do they want mega-size vessels holding 6,000+ guests. “Eagle Society” cruisers want good food & drinks, good service, and comfortable and modern accommodations combined with a relaxed, uncomplicated, friendly onboard experience.

The most popular event is the late afternoon open bar “Signature Cocktail Hour” with officers and fellow guests enjoying their favorite beverages and hors d’oeuvres featuring local specialties, and chatting about their day’s adventures (with live background music) before heading into the open seating dinner from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Fresh food is brought aboard daily, and all meals & snacks are included in your cruise. Master chefs prepare traditional American menus with a regional flair featuring local ingredients. The menus are short and sweet without any confusion when ordering. Breakfast in the dining room offers the most menu choices including a feature of the day.

In Brunswick, Georgia, the feature was beef tenderloin with eggs, lobster scampi & breakfast potatoes (I know, I know), plus made-to-order omelets, French toast, oatmeal, specialty quiches and the usual sides – bacon, sausage, grits. (A casual breakfast/lunch is offered every day in the outdoor café).

Our lunch choices included fried green tomato BLT, Napoleon lemon dill crab salad, or Brunswick stew. Dinner has two appetizers (corn chowder soup or iceberg wedge salad) and 3 entrees: Southern BBQ pork chop, crab-crusted salmon or pan-seared sea bass. Wine and beer and soft drinks are complimentary during lunch and dinner, and homemade desserts are a big deal with this crowd.

Following dinner, many guests head back to the main lounge for live entertainment, featuring local musical guests, comedians, magicians and storytellers – and yes, the open bar is available to all.

To be clear, American Cruise Lines is not for everyone. It is not for families with young children. It is not for honeymooners wanting a tropical island beach vacation during the day and a heart-pounding late-night disco dance party. There is no onboard pool, casino, shopping, fancy spa, Broadway shows, 24/7 room service, activities or entertainment. It is the total opposite of Disney or Vegas or Carnival Cruises.

It is also not an inexpensive cruise line. ACL is a small, intimate experience for adults wanting to see and explore the United States in an upscale and comfortable environment – without long lines and crowds. (Some New England and Columbia & Snake River summer itineraries are popular with multi-generational groups – without young children.)

Here are a few of my favorite ACL “American Eagle” experiences during our “Historic South & Golden Isles” sailing :

  • Easy and seamless walking on and off the ship at every port of call. In Savannah we were docked in front of the River Walk, smack in the heart of this historic and beautiful city.
  • The new, modern and luxurious onboard décor. Very light and airy throughout the ship. Spacious public areas and staterooms/suites, including a surprisingly large sun deck with comfy lounge chairs and a track for scenic walking.
  • Shore excursions, especially the “Alligator Wildlife Exploration” in the Sea Pines Resort Forest in Hilton Head and the “Pat Conroy’s Writing Exploration” and “Beaufort Movie Walking Tour” (”The Big Chill,” “Prince of Tides,” “Forest Gump,” “The Great Santini”) in beautiful Beaufort, South Carolina.
  • Eating breakfast or lunch outdoors on the Sky Lounge verandah overlooking the back of the ship and all the Lowcountry scenery on both sides.
  • All-inclusive cruising – no nickel and diming. Fares include all onboard farm-to-table meals and snacks, wifi, evening cocktails, entertainment, enrichment programs, beer and wine with lunch and dinner, tips and gratuities, and so much more.

Before you book an American Cruise Line vacation, be sure to ask your travel advisor what style of ship you will be on. There are distinct differences (interior & exterior) between the riverboats, paddle-wheelers and coastal cruise ships. Many of the itineraries include a pre-cruise hotel stay with transfers and some extend complimentary airfare and special promotions.
