Exploring Carnival Cruise Line’S 15 Drink Limit Policy

drink policy on carnival cruise

Cruising with Carnival is all about fun, but with alcohol often flowing freely onboard, some reasonable limitations apply. Carnival Cruise Line has implemented a 15 drink per day limit as a responsible measure to encourage moderate consumption and maintain a pleasant environment for all guests.

If you’re short on time, here’s a quick answer: Carnival Cruise Line has set a limit of 15 alcoholic drinks per passenger, per day in an effort to promote responsible consumption . This policy applies to adult passengers only and excludes wine purchased with dinner.

In this comprehensive guide, we will cover all aspects of Carnival’s 15 drink limit including how it works, what counts towards the limit, how it is enforced, tips for staying within the limits, exemptions, frequently asked questions, and opinions on the policy.

Understanding Carnival’s 15 Drink Limit Policy

When the 15 drink limit policy was implemented.

Carnival Cruise Line implemented the 15 Drink Limit Policy in September 2018 as a measure to promote responsible alcohol consumption among its passengers. This policy applies to all guests aged 21 and above.

It is important to note that the limit includes all alcoholic beverages consumed on board, including those purchased at bars, restaurants, and through room service.

Before the implementation of this policy, guests were able to consume unlimited alcoholic beverages during their cruise. However, Carnival recognized the need to establish a limit to ensure the safety and well-being of its passengers.

The 15 Drink Limit Policy aims to prevent excessive alcohol consumption, which can lead to disruptive behavior, accidents, and health issues.

Why Carnival Implemented this Policy

Carnival Cruise Line, like other cruise operators, has a responsibility to prioritize the safety and security of its passengers. Excessive alcohol consumption can not only pose risks to individuals but also impact the overall experience of other guests on board.

By implementing the 15 Drink Limit Policy, Carnival aims to create a safe and enjoyable environment for all passengers.

Additionally, this policy helps Carnival comply with international maritime regulations and guidelines regarding alcohol consumption. These regulations are in place to ensure the well-being of passengers and crew members, as well as to maintain the integrity of the cruise industry as a whole.

How the 15 Drink Limit is Monitored and Enforced

Carnival Cruise Line has implemented various measures to monitor and enforce the 15 Drink Limit Policy. Bar staff and servers are trained to keep track of the number of drinks consumed by each guest. They will request identification and scan the guest’s Sail & Sign card each time a drink is purchased.

In addition to the vigilant staff, Carnival utilizes a sophisticated computerized system that tracks and records the number of drinks consumed by each guest. This system helps ensure that the 15 drink limit is not exceeded throughout the duration of the cruise.

If a guest reaches their 15 drink limit, they will no longer be able to purchase alcoholic beverages on board. Carnival encourages responsible drinking and offers a variety of non-alcoholic beverage options for guests to enjoy.

It’s important for passengers to be aware of and understand the 15 Drink Limit Policy before embarking on a Carnival cruise. By adhering to this policy, guests can help create a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone on board.

What Counts Towards the 15 Drink Limit

Carnival Cruise Line’s 15 drink limit policy is an important aspect of their onboard experience. It is essential for passengers to understand what counts towards this limit to ensure a smooth and enjoyable vacation.

Alcoholic Beverages Included in the Limit

When it comes to the 15 drink limit, it’s important to note that it applies to alcoholic beverages only. This includes a wide range of options such as cocktails, beer, wine, and spirits. Each time a passenger orders an alcoholic drink, it will be counted towards their total for the day.

However, it’s worth mentioning that Carnival Cruise Line does not restrict the type of alcoholic beverages one can consume. Whether it’s a refreshing mojito by the pool or a sophisticated glass of wine at dinner, all alcoholic drinks are included in the 15 drink limit.

Non-Alcoholic Beverages and Exceptions

Non-alcoholic beverages, on the other hand, do not count towards the 15 drink limit. This means that passengers can enjoy unlimited amounts of soda, water, coffee, tea, and other non-alcoholic options without worrying about exceeding their drink limit.

Additionally, there are some exceptions to the 15 drink limit policy. Carnival Cruise Line allows guests to bring one bottle of wine or champagne per person onboard during embarkation. This bottle is not included in the 15 drink limit and can be enjoyed at any time during the cruise.

Drink Packages and the 15 Drink Maximum

Carnival Cruise Line offers various drink packages that can be purchased before or during the cruise. These packages provide guests with the convenience of unlimited drinks within a specific time frame or throughout the entire voyage.

It’s important to note that even with a drink package, the 15 drink limit still applies. The package allows passengers to enjoy unlimited drinks within the package’s parameters, but any additional alcoholic beverages consumed beyond the package’s limits will be counted towards the 15 drink maximum.

Guests who opt for a drink package should keep track of their consumption to ensure they don’t exceed the 15 drink limit and avoid any additional charges.

Understanding what counts towards the 15 drink limit is crucial for passengers on a Carnival Cruise Line vacation. By being aware of the policy and making informed choices, guests can enjoy their favorite beverages responsibly while having an amazing time onboard.

Tips for Staying Within the 15 Drink Limit

Pace yourself and stay hydrated.

When it comes to enjoying your time onboard a Carnival cruise ship while abiding by the 15 drink limit policy, pacing yourself is key. It’s important to remember that the goal is to have a great time without overindulging.

Start by setting a limit for yourself, such as one drink per hour, to ensure you don’t exceed the limit. Additionally, staying hydrated by drinking water in between alcoholic beverages can help you maintain a steady pace and prevent dehydration.

Order Wisely at Bars and Restaurants

When ordering drinks at bars and restaurants onboard, it’s important to make mindful choices to stay within the 15 drink limit. Consider opting for lower alcohol content options, such as light beers or mixed drinks with less alcohol.

This way, you can enjoy a variety of beverages without consuming excessive amounts of alcohol. It’s also a good idea to alternate between alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks to pace yourself and keep your alcohol intake in check.

Consider Lower Alcohol Content Options

There are plenty of delicious options available on Carnival cruise ships that have lower alcohol content. For example, you can try refreshing mocktails or choose beverages with a lower percentage of alcohol.

This way, you can still enjoy the social aspect of having a drink while staying within the 15 drink limit. Be sure to ask the bartenders for recommendations or explore the ship’s menu for these alternatives.

By following these tips, you can make the most of your Carnival cruise experience while staying within the 15 drink limit. Remember to drink responsibly and prioritize your well-being throughout your vacation. Cheers to a fantastic time aboard!

Opinions on Carnival’s Drink Limit Policy

Supporters appreciate the measured approach.

Carnival Cruise Line’s drink limit policy has garnered support from many passengers who appreciate the cruise line’s measured approach to alcohol consumption. Supporters argue that the policy promotes responsible drinking and ensures the safety and well-being of all passengers on board.

One of the main reasons supporters appreciate the drink limit policy is because it helps prevent excessive alcohol consumption. By setting a limit of 15 drinks per day, Carnival aims to prevent passengers from overindulging and potentially causing disruptive behavior or health issues.

This helps create a more enjoyable and peaceful environment for all passengers on the cruise.

Additionally, supporters argue that the drink limit policy contributes to a safer cruise experience. By monitoring alcohol consumption, Carnival can identify passengers who may be intoxicated and take appropriate action to prevent any potential incidents or accidents.

This proactive approach enhances the overall safety and security of the cruise, giving passengers peace of mind throughout their vacation.

Furthermore, some supporters appreciate the drink limit policy because it encourages passengers to explore other activities and amenities offered on the cruise ship. Instead of solely focusing on alcohol consumption, passengers are encouraged to participate in various entertainment options, such as live shows, spa treatments, or sports activities.

This helps diversify the cruise experience and allows passengers to fully enjoy all the amenities available on board.

Critics Feel it’s Too Restrictive

Despite the support for Carnival’s drink limit policy, there are critics who feel that it is too restrictive and infringes upon their freedom to consume alcohol as they please during their vacation.

Some critics argue that 15 drinks per day may not be enough for passengers who enjoy a more relaxed and leisurely drinking experience. They feel that the policy assumes all passengers have the same drinking habits and fails to account for individual preferences and tolerance levels.

Critics believe that adults should be able to make their own choices regarding alcohol consumption, as long as they do not disrupt the overall cruise experience for others.

Furthermore, critics question the effectiveness of the drink limit policy, suggesting that it may be easily circumvented by sharing drinks or consuming alcoholic beverages purchased off the ship. They argue that the policy may only penalize responsible drinkers who adhere to the rules, while those who wish to consume more alcohol can find ways to bypass the limit.

It’s important to note that Carnival Cruise Line has implemented the drink limit policy with the intention of promoting responsible drinking and ensuring a safe and enjoyable cruise experience for all passengers.

While supporters appreciate the measured approach, critics believe it may be too restrictive. Ultimately, the drink limit policy remains a subject of debate among passengers and continues to shape the overall cruise experience on Carnival ships.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the limit apply to wine purchased with dinner.

Yes, the 15 drink limit policy on a Carnival Cruise applies to all alcoholic beverages, including wine purchased with dinner. This means that if you have already consumed 15 drinks throughout the day, you will not be able to order any more alcoholic beverages, regardless of the type or occasion.

What Happens if I Order More Than 15 Drinks in a Day?

If you attempt to order more than 15 drinks in a day on a Carnival Cruise, you may be refused service. The cruise line takes the safety and well-being of its passengers seriously, and this policy is in place to ensure responsible alcohol consumption.

It is important to note that this policy is for your own safety and the safety of others onboard.

If you find yourself reaching the drink limit, don’t worry! There are plenty of other non-alcoholic beverage options available on the ship. Carnival Cruise Line offers a variety of refreshing mocktails, juices, and soft drinks that you can enjoy throughout your cruise.

Can I Purchase Multiple Drink Packages to Exceed the Limit?

No, purchasing multiple drink packages does not allow you to exceed the 15 drink limit. The policy applies to each individual guest and cannot be circumvented by purchasing multiple packages. Carnival Cruise Line closely monitors the consumption of alcoholic beverages to ensure compliance with their policies.

It is important to remember that the 15 drink limit is in place to promote responsible drinking and ensure the safety of all passengers. Carnival Cruise Line wants everyone to have an enjoyable and safe vacation experience, and adhering to this policy helps to achieve that goal.

While Carnival Cruise Line’s 15 drink limit per passenger, per day may seem strict to some, it comes from a reasonable desire to encourage moderate alcohol consumption onboard. For many cruisers, staying within this limit poses no problem, but others may need to carefully consider their ordering habits.

Overall, Carnival’s policy aims to maintain a pleasant environment for all guests to enjoy their cruise experience.

A liquor and beverage consumption policy was created in order for Carnival to be able to control the liquor consumption of minors and the quantities consumed that lead to the disruptive behavior of others on board.

Bringing Alcohol On Board - Embarkation Day

What items am I not allowed to bring?

Prohibited Items:

  • Alcohol (hard liquor) and beer
  • Wine or champagne beyond the allowable limit of one 750 ml bottle per adult (18 years of age or older)
  • Non-alcoholic beverages in containers other than a can or carton; excessive quantities per person (over 12 cans/cartons per person); exessive size per can/carton (over 375 ml each)

Carnival's Liquor and Beverage policy states that the guests are prohibited from bringing water, sodas and other non-alcoholic beverages on board that are packed in bottles. What is Carnival's liquor and beverage policy?

Guests are prohibited from bringing water, sodas and other non-alcoholic beverages that are packaged in glass or plastic bottles.

On embarkation day, a small quantity of non-alcoholic beverages (i.e., sparkling water, sodas, energy drinks, juice, and milk), packaged in cans or cartons, may be brought on board and must be in the guest's carry-on luggage. A small quantity is considered a maximum of 12 sealed, unopened cans/cartons of 375-ml each or less, per person.

Guests are prohibited from bringing alcoholic beverages on board with the following exception - at the beginning of the cruise during embarkation day only, guests (18 years of age and older) may bring one 750-ml bottle of sealed/unopened wine or champagne, per person, in their carry-on luggage. Outside this exception, all liquor, beer, other forms of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages are strictly prohibited in both carry-on and checked luggage and such items will be confiscated and discarded and no compensation will be provided . Guests sailing with us on back-to-back cruises are entitled to bring the same quantity as stated in this policy, per cruise. The additional quantities will be stored for safekeeping at the start of the first cruise and will be given to the guest as each following cruise begins.

Corkage Fee:

Should guests wish to consume their wine or champagne in the main dining room, specialty restaurant or bar, a $15.00 AUD corkage fee, per 750-ml bottle, will be charged. A corkage fee is a charge that is assessed, at time of service, for every bottle that is served and not bought on the premises.

Large cooler restrictions : Carnival Cruise Line does not allow guests to bring large coolers on board its ships. However small, personal-sized coolers, no larger than 30x30x30cm for the purpose of housing small quantities of non-alcoholic beverages and/or medications are permitted as carry-on luggage. Screening and movement of large coolers through embarkation is an impediment to the boarding and security screening process. Therefore, large coolers are not permitted as carry-on or checked luggage.

Ports-of-Call : Alcoholic beverages of any kind purchased in any Port-of-Call will be retained at the gangway, stored on board and held by Carnival until the end of the voyage.

Drinking Alcohol On Board : The minimum age for the purchase and/or consumption of alcoholic beverages in the bars, lounges and gift shops is 18 years of age. In the event that Bar/Restaurant/Gift Shop staff are in question that a guest is less than 18 years old, they shall request picture identification, prior to serving the drink or selling the bottle of liquor. Carnival reserves the right to refuse the sale of alcoholic beverages to anyone.

Carnival Cruise Line 2024 Drink Menus and Pricing

Last Updated on April 17, 2024

In the past, embarking on a cruise meant encountering the same routine selection of beverages across all venues. Your options typically included classics like daiquiris, pina coladas, and, if the menu dared to be bold, perhaps a mojito. Today, the drink landscape has undergone a significant transformation. Cruise ship bars now boast a diverse array of choices, featuring craft beers, premium spirits, and meticulously concocted cocktails. It’s an entirely new experience.

Carnival Cruise Line, in particular, has taken this evolution to heart, revolutionizing its drink offerings with a tailored menu for almost every bar on their ships. This accomplishment is noteworthy, especially when considering that a single ship can host between 10 and 15 bars.

Carnival will be increasing drink menu prices in the first part of 2024. The new menus are already in place on the Carnival Jubilee and we expect other ships to follow in January and February.

See a new menu on your ship? Email it to us so we can share with everyone, [email protected]

Below you’ll find the bar menus found on the Carnival Cruise Line’s ships. Carnival has a pretty robust beverage program and usually has different drinks available at nearly every bar on a ship, so you’ll see a ton of drink options below. For drinks offered at multiple venues, the prices are consistent (i.e., a Coors Light and the Atrium Bar will cost the same as a Coors Light at the Pool Bar). When looking at the prices, remember to consider gratuities. Carnival automatically adds an 18% gratuity added to all beverage purchases.

This bar may be confusing because Carnival uses odd naming for their venues. While many ships have “Guy’s Pig & Anchor BBQ,” few have the actual Smokehouse and Brewhouse, which has cocktails. The Smokehouse/Brewhouse is a sit-down restaurant with a large bar serving some great cocktails. They even have a brewery right inside this bar where they make their own beer! You can find it on the  Carnival Celebration ,  Carnival Horizon , Carnival Jubilee ,  Carnival Mardi Gras , and  Carnival Panorama .

If you’re a beer fan, I highly recommend the Brewery Tour for $30 a person. You can read more about the Carnival Pig & Anchor Brewery Tour here .

The RedFrog Pub is the Caribbean-themed indoor bar that’s located on the lower level of many Carnival ships. It’s different than the RedFrog Rum Bar which is found in the Lido Pool Deck Area. You can find it on the Breeze , Freedom , Legend , Magic , Miracle , Pride , Radiance , Splendor , Spirit , Sunshine , Sunrise , and Valor .

Carnival Cruise Line Shuts Down Drinking-Related Rumor

Picture of Doug Parker

Can people who are technically under age drink alcohol on a Carnival Cruise Line ship if their parent or guardian signs a waiver? That’s the question the company’s Brand Ambassador, John Heald, was asked by a cruiser planning to set sail with two young women under the age of 20.

Two glasses of tropical drinks, one milky white with a pineapple garnish, the other strawberry red with a cherry, against an ocean background, perfect for passengers 18 to 20.

The “Young Adult Alcoholic Beverage Waiver” Myth

Heald used his Facebook page to respond to an email he’d received from a parent regarding the availability of a “Young Adult Alcoholic Beverage Waiver form.” The parent hoped the document would allow her daughter and a friend, both of whom were under the age of 20, to enjoy alcoholic drinks during their upcoming Carnival Panorama sailing.

As is his way, Heald was both forthright and slightly sarcastic in response to the “kind request from a parent.”

He then declared that it was “certainly not my place to judge how other parents, um, parent. However, I find it a wee bit strange that a parent would ask for his.”

After sharing a booze-soaked anecdote from his youth, Heald got to the heart of the matter. “Well then,” he wrote, “we don’t have a waiver and will not be allowing these ladies to be served alcohol.”

In other words, the mysterious waiver giving underage cruisers permission to drink is the latest rumor to be busted by Heald. The vast majority of commenters agreed with the sentiment that those beneath the legal drinking age were too young to understand the consequences. Others mentioned the liability issues the cruise line could face were they to put such a program into place.

Activities for 18 to 20 Year Olds Coming Soon

Vista Atrium and Bar

Heald also used the post to announce that, in response to passenger requests, Carnival is rolling out a meet-and-greet specifically designed for the 18-20 year olds sailing onboard Carnival ships . “On every ship,” he explained, “on the first sea day (not embarkation day), there will be a meet-and-greet under the supervision of one of the brilliant Fun Squad members.”

He added that those wishing to participate should check the Fun Times (or app) for information on any individual sailing.

Cruise drink packages: A line-by-line guide

I t's easy to run up a monster bill ordering wine, beer and mixed drinks by the glass on a cruise ship. The cost of alcoholic drinks on cruise vessels — particularly cocktails — can be pricey. But for those who regularly order several alcoholic drinks a day when cruising, there's a way to save: a flat-fee drink package.

Nearly all the major mass-market cruise lines offer flat-fee drink packages that, in some cases, can save you money when cruising. The exceptions are Disney Cruise Line and Virgin Voyages , though both offer alternative ways to save on beverage purchases.

What's included in a cruise ship drink package, and how do they work? And, perhaps more to the point, how much do cruise drink packages cost? Read on for the answers in this ultimate guide to cruise drink packages.

For more cruise guides, news and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

For a line-by-line guide to drink package costs, inclusions, limitations and fine print, scroll to the second half of the guide.

What is a drink package on a cruise ship?

Cruise ship drink packages let you order as many drinks as you want while on a cruise for one flat fee. This takes the place of paying for drinks one at a time.

At some lines, there are several tiers of drink packages. Basic tiers often include just sodas and bottled water. More elaborate (and expensive) tiers will add alcoholic and nonalcoholic cocktails, wine, beer and specialty coffee drinks. In some cases, there will be more than one tier of such all-encompassing plans.

Some lines also offer coffee cards that let you get a fixed number of fancy coffee drinks at a shipboard coffee bar for a discounted price. Some also offer wine-specific packages.

How much do alcoholic drink packages cost on cruise ships?

The cost of cruise ship drink packages varies widely by line. At several of the biggest cruise brands, including Carnival Cruise Line and Holland America , the main drink packages that include all types of drinks cost about $60 per person per day. Other brands, such as Norwegian Cruise Line , charge as much as $138 per person per day for a top-tier package.

Drink packages that don't include alcoholic drinks, such as soda packages, typically cost far less. Soda packages often are under $10 per person per day. Note that some cruise lines discount drink packages if you buy them online in advance of sailing, and others offer periodic sales on their drink packages online.

Can you buy drinks on a cruise without a drink package?

Yes. All major cruise lines will let you buy drinks on an a la carte basis when cruising. You don't need a drink package to be able to drink alcoholic beverages or any other type of beverage on a ship.

Can you share a drink package on a cruise ship?

In many cases, no. Several of the biggest cruise lines, including Carnival, Holland America and MSC Cruises, have a rule that if one adult in a cabin orders a drink package, all adults in the cabin must order the package. This is to prevent two or more people in a cabin from sharing a single drink package.

Two lines that notably don't have such a rule are Princess Cruises and Windstar Cruises . Technically, you are not supposed to use your package to buy drinks for other people.

Are drink packages on cruise ships really unlimited?

It depends. Some cruise lines, such as Carnival, limit the number of alcoholic drinks that any one person can order using a drink package to 15 in a day. That is, of course, an enormous number — more than most people will ever want to order.

Where can you use a cruise ship drink package?

Cruise ship drink packages generally are honored anywhere you can order a drink on a ship — think bars, lounges and eateries. However, you usually can't use them when ordering room service. They also generally don't apply to drinks taken out of cabin minibars. Be sure to check the fine print in your particular line's drink package before placing an order for a drink to your room.

Some cruise lines also let you use your packages when visiting their private islands .

A line-by-line guide to cruise drink packages

Below is a line-by-line look at available drink packages at the major lines that offer them. Note that the pricing listed is per person per day. In cases where a line offers more than one drink package, we've highlighted the most inclusive package in detail while also noting other packages cruisers can consider.

Fine print: More expensive drinks are available at a 25% discount. If one adult in a cabin purchases the package, all adults in the same cabin also must purchase it. There's a limit of 15 alcoholic drinks per person in a 24-hour period.

Celebrity Cruises drink package

Package name: Premium Drink Package

Cost per day: $109, not including a 20% automatic gratuity charge, for passengers who have purchased a cruise-only rate. Passengers staying in the premium Retreat areas on Celebrity ships receive the Premium Drink Package for free.

MSC Cruises does not add service charges to drink package purchases, in contrast to the policy at most lines.

Fine print: If one person in a cabin purchases a package, all people in the same cabin or traveling group also must purchase a package (children in cabins will be charged for a less expensive, nonalcoholic package). Packages are not available on sailings shorter than three nights, with the exception of South America sailings. Note that the package is valid on Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve , MSC Cruises' private island in the Bahamas.

Travel agent reveals amount of alcohol you need to drink to make cruise drinks package worth it

Travel agent reveals amount of alcohol you need to drink to make cruise drinks package worth it

There's a very specific point where you start having 'free drinks', so to speak.

Tom Earnshaw

Tom Earnshaw

A travel agent who specialises in cruise ship holidays has revealed all when it comes to drink packages and if they're really worth it.

Those heading on a cruise ship can make the experience truly immersive and all-inclusive by upgrading to premium drinks packages .

The prices can differ significantly depending on who you're sailing with and what you're booking. P&O Cruises will cost you between £44.95 and £54.95 per day for its alcohol packages. In comparison, Royal Caribbean's booze option is around $89 (£71) a day.

Then there's the alcohol-free packages, which for P&O are £24.95 a day or up to $38 (£30) a day with the likes of Royal Caribbean.

Sure, it's not for everyone and they add to a cruising experience that certainly isn't cheap . One former cruise-worker-come-traveller even explains why she would never pay for one again .

But they are chosen by so many travellers year in, year out, that some people might feel peer pressured into it from the off.

Well, listen to the experts is our advice. And over on TikTok , one travel agent has revealed all when it comes to making that big decision.

Elisa, who runs The Paradise Travel Group , has posted a handy explainer to all her viewers that's been viewed thousands of times already.

Lots of travellers question whether they should purchase the drinks package on a cruise. (Getty Stock Image)

"As a travel agent that specialises in cruises the number one question I get is 'should I purchase the drinks package?'" Elisa says .

"Let's talk about it. On average, the drink package typically pays off once you've had about six or seven drinks per day on your cruise. That's typically the point in which you're going to break even with your drink package.

"Now any drink above and beyond that is what you're benefiting from when you're purchasing the drink package. You're almost getting them for free.

"If you're the type of person that knows they're going to drink probably less than six to seven drinks per day, then that's the point in which you really want to ask yourself if the drink package is worth it for you.

Delicious. (Getty Stock Image)

"Because nine times out of ten, at that point it is just going to be less expensive to go a la carte for all your drinks. The one exception I say to this is if you are looking to go in to your cruise with an all inclusive mindset, you don't want to have to think about the drink prices, you don't want to have to worry, you want to know that it is prepaid and you can get whatever you want.

"In that case yes it's probably worth it to just splurge and get the drink package."

Elisa also shares a handy hack when it comes to getting the best price for your package, with the cost of them fluctuating significantly prior to sailing as cruise lines put on sales.

A cruise ship in port. (Getty Stock Image)

Well, you can take advantage of this. Elisa says: "The cruise lines totally vary but something I tell my clients is, especially on Royal Caribbean, those drink package prices are going to fluctuate a lot from the time you book your cruise up until the day of your cruise.

"It's always cheaper to purchase the drink package before your cruise but the day on which you purchase it might be a bit more expensive than two weeks later when they throw in a great sale.

"A lot of people don't know that these cruise add ons are refundable. So if you purchase the drink package and then three weeks go by... you find the drink package has dropped in price you can cancel your drink package and rebook it for the new lower rate. You can do this up until the week before the cruise."

There's so much more than alcohol too.

With Carnival cruises for example you get speciality coffees, energy drinks, bottled water, teas, and carbonated drinks.

"For Royal Caribbean you're getting all of that plus Johnny Rockets [milkshakes] which is a great perk," Elisa says.

"And for Celebrity Cruise Lines Premium drink package you're getting specialty coffees, teas, bottled water, mocktails."

So before booking, it's worth thinking how much you're actually going to drink and weighing up the costs.

Please drink responsibly. If you want to discuss any issues relating to alcohol in confidence, contact Drinkline on 0300 123 1110, 9am–8pm weekdays and 11am–4pm weekends for advice and support .
