New Zealand Cricket chief executive Scott Weenink said there were already indications that the three matches against Brendon McCullum's team would attract the same sort of bumper attendances witnessed for the two home tests against Australia in February and March.
"In the past, there's often been a lot of talk in New Zealand about the popularity of Test cricket - without that translating into ticket sales or viewership numbers," he said.

England to play three cricket tests in New Zealand to conclude 2024
FILE - England’s captain Ben Stokes prepares to bowl on the second day of the fifth and final test match between England and India in Dharamshala, India, Friday, March 8, 2024. Stokes ruled himself out of England’s defense of the Twenty20 World Cup title in June. LONDON (AP) — The England and Wales Cricket Board on Tuesday announced a three-test tour to New Zealand starting at Christchurch on Nov. 28.
After the series opener at Hagley Oval, the tour will move to the North Island for tests in Wellington from Dec. 6-10 and in Hamilton from Dec. 14-18.
The last time the test teams met in February and March of last year, they split a two-match series after England was on the verge of a 2-0 victory when skipper Ben Stokes enforced the follow-on. New Zealand won by one run — only the fourth team in history to win a test after following on — in the second test after England won the first by 267 runs.
The three matches at the end of this year form part of the World Test Championship, which New Zealand won in its inaugural edition before losing the title to Australia.
India, which has won six of nine tests in this edition, leads the WTC standings with Australia in second place and New Zealand in third. England is ninth ahead of home series against West Indies and Sri Lanka.
The top two teams will advance to a final at Lord’s in 2025.

Here's why Pakistan are unlikely to announce T20 World Cup 2024 squad anytime soon
Teams such as defending champions England as well as India, South Africa and Australia have unveiled their squads for the 20-over mega event that will be co-hosted by West Indies and USA in June. read more
While several teams have announced their squad for next month’s T20 World Cup, Pakistan are yet to finalise their 15 due to fitness and performance concerns over some of its key players.
New Zealand were the first team to announce their squad for mega event that is set to be co-hosted by West Indies and USA, doing so on Monday, 29 April. India, who had won the inaugural edition in 2007, announced their squad the following day , as did South Africa and defending champions England. Australia, who had won the 2021 edition in the UAE, unveiled their squad on Wednesday .

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), however, isn’t likely to announce its squad until late May owing to concerns over some of its star players, including wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan.
A PCB source said Pakistan would announce its T20 World Cup Cup squad either on 23 or 24 May — which is the deadline set by the ICC for participating teams to make changes to their squads without seeking permission from the WC Technical Committee.
The management and selectors are concerned over niggling injuries to Mohammad Rizwan, Azam Khan, Irfan Khan Niazi and Haris Rauf and will observe them and their performances in Ireland and England.
The selectors will announce the squad for the tours of Ireland and England on Thursday and the team management and selectors will assess the fitness and performance of selected players before announcing the WC squad.
“It (delay) doesn’t matter because all these teams can change their entire squad by 24th May after that changes can only be allowed on fitness or injury basis with approval of the technical committee,” he said.
“That is why the PCB and selectors have decided to hold off until after the first match in England.”
The source also added that the selectors also wanted to give more time to Babar Azam and other players to settle down and recapture the old bonding in the dressing room before the WC squad is announced.
“For the time being we have sent a provisional squad to the ICC for public relations and promotion purposes,” the source said.
Probable squad for Ireland and England series : Babar Azam (Capt), Muhammad Rizwan, Saim Ayub, Fakhar Zaman, Iftikhar Ahmed, Azam Khan, Irfan Khan Niazi, Usman Khan, Shadab Khan, Imad Wasim, Usama Mir, Abrar Ahmed, Muhammad Amir, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf, Naseem Shah, Abbas Afridi and Aamir Jamal.

Every squad for the men's T20 World Cup
From Australia to the Windies, here's where you'll find the official squad for all 20 nations at this year's men's T20 World Cup in the USA and Caribbean
Afghanistan | Australia | Bangladesh | Canada | England | India | Ireland | Namibia | Nepal | Netherlands | New Zealand | Oman | Pakistan | Papua New Guinea | Scotland | South Africa | Sri Lanka | Uganda | United States | West Indies
The ICC set a deadline of May 1 for all nations to name their 15-player squad for this year's men's T20 World Cup tournament, with New Zealand the first to do so. As the squads roll in over the coming days, they'll be updated here.
An important date to note in the calendar is May 25 - nations can change their 15-player squad at leisure up until that date, after which any changes will require ICC Event Technical Committe approval (such as for a serious injury).
Afghanistan
Squad: Rashid Khan (c), Rahmanullah Gurbaz (wk), Ibrahim Zadran, Azmatullah Omarzai, Najibullah Zadran, Mohammad Ishaq, Mohammad Nabi, Gulbadin Naib, Karim Janat, Nangyal Kharoti, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Noor Ahmad, Naveen-ul-Haq, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Fareed Ahmad Malik. Reserves: Sediq Atal, Hazratullah Zazai, Saleem Safi
Rashid Khan will captain the side and lead the spin-heavy bowling brigade, with support from Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Noor Ahmad, Nangyal Kharoti and veteran Mohammad Nabi.
Ahmad, who Aussies will know from his BBL stint with the Melbourne Renegades, is one of several new faces in the squad from the 2022 T20 World Cup, along with Karim Janat, Mohammad Ishaq, 20-year-old rising star Kharoti and keeper-batter Mohammad Ishaq, who played at both the 2020 and 2022 U19 World Cups.
Squad: Mitch Marsh (c), Ashton Agar, Pat Cummins, Tim David, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, Matthew Wade, David Warner, Adam Zampa.
Australia left Steve Smith out of a men's World Cup squad for the first time since 2014, while Ashton Agar and Cameron Green are the big winners from the 15-man squad named for June's T20 event, with the Western Australian pair picked despite both having been absent from international T20 cricket for nearly 18 months.
Squad yet to be announced
Squad: Saad Zafar (c), Aaron Johnson, Dilon Heyliger, Dilpreet Bajwa, Harsh Thaker, Jeremy Gordon, Junaid Siddiqui, Kaleem Sana, Kanwarpal Tathgur, Navneet Dhaliwal, Nicholas Kirton, Pargat Singh, Ravinderpal Singh, Rayyankhan Pathan, Shreyas Movva. Travelling reserve: Tajinder Singh. Reserves: Aaditya Varadharajan, Ammar Khalid, Jatinder Matharu, Parveen Kumar.
Canada's left-handed allrounder captain Saad Zafar will carry plenty of the load for the North American side competing at their first ever T20 World Cup. Opener Aaron Johnson, who was pivotal in helping the nation secure qualification to the World Cup in the Americas Region tournament, was the top run-scorer in a five-match T20 series against the USA last month, which Canada lost 4-0. Offspinning allrounder Harsh Thaker has also been in good form with bat and ball recently while left-arm seamer Kaleem Sana - a former Pakistan U19 player - leads their pace attack.
Squad: Jos Buttler (c), Moeen Ali, Jofra Archer, Jonny Bairstow, Harry Brook, Sam Curran, Ben Duckett, Tom Hartley, Will Jacks, Chris Jordan, Liam Livingstone, Adil Rashid, Phil Salt, Reece Topley, Mark Wood
Jofra Archer is set to make his international comeback at this year's men's T20 World Cup after being included in England's 15-player provisional squad for the tournament.
The 29-year-old pace ace hasn't played at the top level since last year's Indian Premier League where he was ruled out halfway through the tournament due to a recurrence of his troublesome right elbow stress fracture.
Chris Jordan has also earned a recall almost eight months after his last T20 international following an impressive KFC BBL|13 campaign as a late-order finisher and death bowler for Hobart Hurricanes.
Captain Jos Buttler, Will Jacks and Jonny Bairstow – who have all hit centuries in the ongoing IPL season – will feature in a power-packed top order alongside Phil Salt who has also scored four half-centuries striking at 180 for Kolkata Knight Riders.
Squad: Rohit Sharma (c), Hardik Pandya, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj. Reserves: Shubman Gill, Rinku Singh, Khaleel Ahmed, Avesh Khan
India have included wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant in their 15-player squad for the men's T20 World Cup in the West Indies and United States in June.
Pant was involved in a near-fatal crash in December 2022 that required him to have multiple surgeries and he missed last year's Indian Premier League as well as India's 50-over World Cup campaign on home soil.
The Delhi Capitals skipper was not the only player rewarded for his IPL form, with Chennai Super Kings batter Shivam Dube also mading the squad after scoring 350 runs in nine matches.
Shubman Gill, Rinku Singh, Khaleel Ahmed and Avesh Khan were among the reserves, but there was no place for veteran KL Rahul.
Squad: Rohit Paudel (c), Aasif Sheikh, Anil Kumar Sah, Kushal Bhurtel, Kushal Malla, Dipendra Singh Airee, Lalit Rajbanshi, Karan KC, Gulshan Jha, Sompal Kami, Pratis GC, Sundeep Jora, Abinash Bohara, Sagar Dhakal, Kamal Singh Airee
Nepal will be captained by 21-year-old Rohit Paudel who recently smashed a 47-ball century against a West Indies A attack featuring Matthew Forde, Oshane Thomas, Roston Chase and Gudakesh Motie, all who toured Australia in February with the Windies senior white-ball sides.
Nepal have had a huge run of T20 cricket leading into this year's tournament with the series against West Indies A preceded by two separate multi-team tournaments as well as a visit from an Ireland A side.
They will face Netherlands, Sri Lanka, South Africa and Bangladesh as their Group D opponents.

Squad: Kane Williamson (c), Finn Allen, Trent Boult, Michael Bracewell, Mark Chapman, Devon Conway, Lockie Ferguson, Matt Henry, Daryl Mitchell, Jimmy Neesham, Glenn Phillips, Rachin Ravindra, Mitchell Santner, Ish Sodhi, Tim Southee. Reserve: Ben Sears
Experience has trumped youthful pace in New Zealand's men's T20 World Cup squad, with Matt Henry and Trent Boult beating quick Ben Sears to the final 15.
Sears impressed in recent T20 and Test series against Australia, but after an expensive tour of Pakistan he has been edged by Henry, who will play at his first T20 World Cup at the age of 32.
Emerging batter Rachin Ravindra is the only other man set to make his T20 tournament debut in a vastly experienced team.
Ravindra, power-hitter Finn Allen (both 24) and allrounder Glenn Phillips, 27, are the only squad members who will still be under the age of 30 on the day of the World Cup final.
Squad: Aqib Ilyas (c), Zeeshan Maqsood, Ayaan Khan, Kashyap Prajapati, Shoaib Khan, Mohammad Nadeem, Pratik Athavale, Naseem Khushi, Khalid Kail, Mehran Khan, Bilal Khan, Kaleemullah, Fayyaz Butt, Shakeel Ahmad, Rafiullah. Reserves: Jatinder Singh, Samay Shrivastava, Sufyan Mehmood, Jay Odedra
Oman have named a new captain, Aqib Ilyas, for their return to the tournament after co-hosting the 2021 T20 World Cup.
Ilyas is Oman's leading run-scorer (364) and wicket-taker (20) this year and will have plenty of bowling options at his disposal along with his own leggies.
Quicks Bilal Khan, Fayyaz Butt, Kaleemullah and Rafiullah, spinner Shakeel Ahmed, and allrounders Zeeshan Maqsood, Mohammad Nadeem, Ayaan Khan and Mehran Khan have all picked in the squad to face Australia, England, Namibia and Scotland in Group B.
Papua New Guinea
South africa .
Squad: Aiden Markram (c), Ottniel Baartman, Gerald Coetzee, Quinton de Kock, Bjorn Fortuin, Reeza Hendricks, Marco Jansen, Heinrich Klaasen, Keshav Maharaj, David Miller, Anrich Nortje, Kagiso Rabada, Ryan Rickelton, Tabraiz Shamsi, Tristan Stubbs. Travelling reserves: Nandre Burger, Lungi Ngidi
South Africa have included fast bowler Anrich Nortje and the uncapped duo of Ryan Rickelton and Ottniel Baartman in their 15-man squad for this year's men's T20 World Cup.
Nortje, 30, has not played a T20 international for more than a year due to persistent injuries, and on his return in the Indian Premier League this season he has given up a woefully high 13.36 runs per over across six matches.
Batter Rickelton, who can also keep wicket, has been rewarded for his fine form in SA20 this year, in which he was the leading scorer with 530 runs at an average of 58.88, while seamer Baartman took 18 wickets in eight matches in the competition.
Aiden Markram will captain the squad, which also includes power hitters Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, Quinton de Kock and Tristan Stubbs.

Jofra Archer confirmed in squad to boost England’s T20 World Cup defence
- Bowler has recovered from long-standing elbow issue
- Spinner Hartley selected over Ahmed in initial 15-man squad
Jofra Archer has been cleared to play in England’s T20 World Cup defence after recovering from the elbow injury that has dogged him for more than four years. The 29-year-old has been named in the 15-man squad that will play four games against Pakistan next month and serves as the provisional selection for the tournament that starts on 1 June in the West Indies and the United States.
Despite being an established first-team player Archer has appeared in only 14 of England’s 65 T20s over the last four years, after first being diagnosed with a stress fracture of his right elbow in January 2020. He has played only three international T20s in three years, all during last year’s tour of Bangladesh, bowling just 11 overs, and has not played a competitive game of any kind since last May.
after newsletter promotion
Archer’s return will be a massive boost for England’s chances of defending the title they won in Australia in 2022. He is joined in the squad by Chris Jordan, who has drifted to the periphery of the team since his death bowling was remorselessly and decisively punished by New Zealand in the 2021 T20 World Cup semi-final: at that point he had played in every one of England’s previous 39 games in the format, but of the 39 they have played since he has appeared in only 17.
Tom Hartley, the Lancashire spinner who made his Test debut in India in January but has yet to play for England in the shortest format, has been preferred to Rehan Ahmed and along with Will Jacks is one of only two players in the squad who has not previously played in either the T20 or ODI World Cup. England can make unlimited changes to their squad until 25 May, the deadline for submitting a final selection.
Jacks is one of several England players currently involved in the Indian Premier League, all of whom will have to leave the tournament before the play-offs. They start on 21 May, the day before the first game against Pakistan at Headingley. That series ends at the Oval on 30 May and the squad will fly to the Caribbean the following day, ahead of their opening fixture against Scotland in Barbados on 4 June.
England provisional squad for the Men’s T20 World Cup & IT20 series v Pakistan: Jos Buttler (Lancashire, capt), Moeen Ali (Warwickshire), Jofra Archer (Sussex), Jonathan Bairstow (Yorkshire), Harry Brook (Yorkshire), Sam Curran (Surrey), Ben Duckett (Nottinghamshire), Tom Hartley (Lancashire), Will Jacks (Surrey), Chris Jordan (Surrey), Liam Livingstone (Lancashire), Adil Rashid (Yorkshire), Phil Salt (Lancashire), Reece Topley (Surrey), Mark Wood (Durham).

New Zealand name T20 World Cup 2024 squad
Experienced batter Kane Williamson has been named captain as New Zealand became the first team to announce their squad for June's ICC Men's T20 World Cup.
The Kiwis named their 15-player squad for the ninth edition of the 20-over showcase on Monday, with the Black Caps opting for an experienced squad that includes Williamson and fast bowling duo Tim Southee and Trent Boult.
It will be the sixth appearance for Williamson at a T20 World Cup and fourth as skipper, with Southee set for his seventh appearance at the tournament and Boult his fifth as the Kiwis seek a first title in the shortest international format of the game.
There were no major surprises in New Zealand's squad, with key pacer Kyle Jamieson (back) and all-rounder Adam Milne (ankle) ruled out of the event through injury and the likes of Will O'Rourke, Tom Latham, Tim Seifert and Will Young missing out on selection despite some recent good form against the white-ball.
Glenn Phillips is one of the key players for New Zealand at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2022.
There was also no shock return for experienced top-order batter Colin Munro, with selectors instead opting to include young gun Rachin Ravindra - alongside fast bowler Matt Henry - as one of two players yet to previously appear at a T20 World Cup.
The Kiwis will also take young pacer Ben Sears to the USA and West Indies as a travelling reserve if required.
New Zealand coach Gary Stead believes he has selected a well-balanced squad and is confident of a strong showing in the month-long tournament.
“I'd like to congratulate everyone named today. It’s a special time representing your country at a world tournament," Stead said.
“We expect the venues in the West Indies to offer quite varied conditions and feel we’ve selected a squad with the scope to adapt to those conditions.”

Stead is especially looking forward to see how Henry and Ravindra can perform on the big stage, in what will be their first appearance at a T20 World Cup.
"Matt has worked exceptionally hard on his skills across the phases of a T20 game to come back into selection consideration," Stead added.
“Rachin has made every post a winner in the past 12 months and it was exciting to see him continue that trajectory over the summer in the T20 format against Australia.”
New Zealand's first match at the T20 World Cup comes against Afghanistan in Guyana on June 7, with further Group C contests to follow with co-hosts West Indies, Uganda and Papua New Guinea.
New Zealand Squad: Kane Williamson (C), Finn Allen, Trent Boult, Michael Bracewell, Mark Chapman, Devon Conway, Lockie Ferguson, Matt Henry, Daryl Mitchell, Jimmy Neesham, Glenn Phillips, Rachin Ravindra, Mitchell Santner, Ish Sodhi, Tim Southee. Travelling Reserve: Ben Sears
