UPDATE: I went back to this campground last summer and stayed in one of the bigger cabins. They sleep 7 people, have their own kitchenette and a private bathroom. While I still wish I could walk down to the river from the cabins, it's really the only negative for me. The cabin sleep 2 in a private room, plus 5 more in the main room (one twin and 2 bunk bed sets). The main room also has a big table in the middle of the room with chairs that came in very handle when it started raining at dinnertime. Our friends in the cabin next door came over and we all ate inside. The kitchen was nice too. Nothing special, but it did allow us to finish up some food in the oven and have a crockpot going all day while we were on the river. And it gave us a small fridge. I also like that the cabins are really spread out. There is a big field with the cabins lining it in a huge circle, so you only have cabins to your sides and that's it. It really was a great setup to have 2 cabins that sleep 7 next to each other for a big group.

I spent the weekend at Riverview Ranch, and while I had a good time, there are things that I wished where a little different. First, the positives... This was my first time camping and staying in an AIR-CONDITIONED cabin. Oh yeah. Perfect for a 95+ degree weekend. The cabin was small, basically 2 sets of bunk beds and one wooden chair. All of the mattresses are what you would expect at a campground, not so comfortable. But still better than the ground or an air mattress. There was plenty of space to bring in some of our stuff to keep the bugs out of the bags, and the ice in the coolers lasted longer with the coolers in A/C. The cabin also blocked out the noisy campers across the field who stayed up late and would have kept me up half the night if I had been in a tent. The stretch of the Meramec River we floated was pretty, and it wasn't too crowded for a Saturday. At only a 1.5 hour drive from St. Louis, driving down in the morning before the float or even making it a day trip is more doable than the other nearby rivers. The staff at the office was also very friendly and helpful, and they even have an open wifi connection at the office. So why only 3 stars? I really like to be able to walk down to the river after dark to put your feet in the water and enjoy the stars. The campground is so large that if you stay in the cabins, you have an easy walk to the store, pool & shower house/bathrooms, but you need a car to get to the river. If you stay in the tent camping area, you are right on the river, and can use the port-a-potties, but need a car to get to the office, real bathrooms or showers. The bathrooms were typical of a campground, but with the doors left open all night, the lights drew the bugs inside worse than at other places I have stayed. (I forgot to mention that another huge plus for the cabins is not having any bugs inside). I didn't check out the pool, but the other people in our group said it was dirty and filled with bathwater...they probably can't do much about the temperature in a heat wave, but they could keep it clean. So would I go back? If I can't find someplace else with A/C cabins, then yes. But I'm going to look around first.

LOVE this place. It was my 2nd time rafting but the 1st was about 12 years ago (dont know what company). I really enjoyed myself. real relaxed environment. it was a three hour ride and I just wasn't prepared.... Items you may need: Cooler (food /drinks) water shoes/sandal If you like outdoor stuff you'll enjoy!

We stayed in a 6 person cabin at Riverview Ranch in July 2015. The cabin was a good size (2 bunk beds in the main room - attached to dining room; 2 single beds in a separate bedroom, small kitchen, bathroom w/small shower) and clean. They provided a broom, TP for the bathroom, a dorm size fridge/microwave, a non-working coffee pot, a table w/6 chairs, and a huge trash can. There was a very small window unit A/C. Together with the ceiling fan in the dining room and the fan we brought from home, it kept the whole cabin cool enough to be comfortable in the July heat. The beds were decent - firm, with vinyl mattresses that were surprisingly not cracked, considering their age. One was dated 11-14-88, another 2-13-89 - they must have been using some cutting edge technology back then to make cheap mattresses that have lasted so long! The shower left much to be desired. The shower head either needed to be cleaned or replaced - it came out in needle-like streams so small and hard that my kids cried when they showered (the water pressure and temperature are great though!). We were surprised that there was a nice, fenced-in swimming pool near the cabins (the water was very warm, and we're pretty sure they use salt, not chlorine), and there was a live band/karaoke set-up in the shelter on Saturday night. We could hear it from our cabin up the hill and danced along. Fun! The view from our cabin was gorgeous. We enjoyed a beautiful sunrise with fog rising from the trees on our last morning there. There is a large field that separates the larger and smaller cabins, it was mowed and walkable when we were there. We drove to swim in the river and to meet the bus for our float pick-up. It's quite a hike from the cabins, which was fine with us (and our roaming 3 year old). The staff was pleasant and helpful both before we arrived (on the phone when we called with questions) and in person. I asked one of the women at the front desk to give my kids a talk about safety, and she was direct and clear without being condescending to my little ones - I appreciated that. I emailed Riverview after we got home to let them know about the coffeepot/shower, and Maggi replied very quickly to let me know the problems would be addressed. The float trip was fantastic. We did the 10:30am "5 mile" float trip on Sunday. I'm not convinced it was 5 miles, but it was beautiful - good length, great raft, perfect water, and amazing scenery. It took us about 4 hours (we were told it would take about 5 hours on the phone) on the 10 person raft, and that was with several stops along the bank for lunch, etc. Our friends rented a canoe, and they tended to move along faster. None of us had to use the oars to move, but we did use them to steer. There were only a few places where the water got fast - we encouraged our small children to get back in the raft at those parts, because there are a lot of fallen trees to get tangled up in. We enjoyed seeing snakes, turtles, a variety of birds, and lots of fish while we floated. Be aware that there is little shade on the river, so bring sunscreen, swim shirts, and even an umbrella for those prone to burning. Overall, it was a nice facility, good staff, and wonderful float trip. I was tempted to give it 3 stars for the price (the extra $10 for each additional person over 2 in the 6 person cabin was a bit annoying), but we had such a great time that I went with four stars. :)

My boyfriend and I wanted to go camping and kayaking for a weekend, so after looking at a lot of different places online, we found Riverview Ranch. The price to camp was comparable, but kayaking was way less expensive here, so that's what we went with. It was pretty easy to find and a pretty short drive from St. Louis. We checked in and the staff were pretty helpful and the store was well stocked. We asked which campsite we were given, and they told us it was our choice as long as there wasn't a reserved sign. The campsites are along the river and under the trees. That was nice to begin with, and even nicer when it thunder stormed the first night -- the trees provided a lot of cover for us. The only downside about our campsite is that we got stuck in between two groups -- I think one had 11 people and the other had 6 or 7. They were pretty loud throughout the night, so it would be nice if they had a quiet area and a party area for people who wanted to stay up all night. The other piece about the campsite is that it is pretty far away from the office, so they have the port-a-potties by the river. If you want a real bathroom or to take a shower, you pretty much have to drive back up to the office. Also, due to the location of the campsites along the river, you can't really park by your site. We were able to drive down and unload the car, but when the other campsites filled up and blocked the drive path, we had to pack everything and take it up the hill to the car. We chose the 10 mile kayak trip along the Meramec River. They actually drop you off in the Huzzah River, and then after a mile it turns into the Meramec. Once we got past that part, it was pretty nice, and it cleared out a lot. The water was nice and clear and it was relaxing. The campsite provides the sit on top kayaks, which were okay, but I think a sit in kayak might have been better for that long of a trip. If we were to go back, we would either do the 5 mile or do a canoe instead. All in all it was a good trip. We would probably go back but would ask to reserve a site not right next to a larger group of people.

This was our first year here as we usually go to Ozark Outdoors. There are many differences. The good: This is an awesome value. They'll match anyone's prices and when I went there was a Groupon available. Nearly every camp site is next to the river. The campsites line up do that there is minimal people noise (only really left amd right neighbors possible). There is a portapotty nearby no matter where you are. They don't charge you for showers like Ozark Outdoors does. There is a pool (it was closed during our stay though -- so ask if it matters to you). The bad: The road is gravel and a bit pitted out (to their credit, they were working on it while we were there). The store is small and can close as early as 6pm on week nights. The flush toilets are too far to practically use while camping (so portapotties are necessary). The showers are a distance too (we drove it). The soil on the campsites are inconsistent (some sandy and some more rocky, and kind of sloped). The fire rings are a little small. This will definitely be our new go to spot for our annual float trip. We prefer a 5 mile trip so we can stop and have fun on the way. I think the deciding factors for us are price (we paid half the price of what Ozark Outdoors would've charged) and that the 5 mile float trip offered allows alcohol (unlike Ozark outdoors -- where you have to take a 9 mile to have alcohol).

Bourbeuse River

Although the Gasconade has the reputation for being crooked, the meandering of the Bourbeuse is more extreme. It winds for nearly 100 miles with an airline distance of only 27 miles, all of it within Franklin County! This is a relatively small, slow river which is not as clear as many of the streams farther south. Yet it provides some rather good bass fishing, has many picturesque features and is surprisingly little cut up by roads crossing it. It is seldom floatable in summer above Bartel Bend (Hwy. H) and becomes rather “civilized” beyond the first Union Bridge.

Difficulty: I Gradients: general – 2.4; Hwy. 19 to Bartel Bend – 3.9; to Hwy. 185 – 1.7; to Happy Sock Creek – 2.3; to Meramec River – 2.1. Counties: Gasconade, Franklin.

We had a large family reunion here in late June. Many of us in cabins, many of us in campers. The drive from the St.Louis area wasn't bad at all. Our 2 bedroom cabin(#19) was spacious and clean. The beds were comfy enough and everything worked just fine. The resort seemed to have a offer. Zip lines, horse rides, floating etc. The prices for floating seemed quite high. The prices for the cabin seemed high to me. The resort is huge on rules. No this, no that, can't do this, etc. But the staff never bothered us. We did noticed all of the staff were constantly breaking their own speed limits. I'd stay again for a big family/camping event, but I wouldn't come here otherwise. But it's not my type of vacation destination.

  • Sleep Quality

Very clean, modernized and maintained. Ideal for float trips, camping, horseback riding and swimming. 7 miles from Bourbon, Mo exit off I-44 on Meramec River. Allow 3-7 hours to float either 5 or 10 miles.

We have been spending family weekends in spring and fall for years but unfortunately, we will not be going back. They suddenly changed the way they charge guest and look for every opportunity to cheat their guests. The registration staff are rude and accused us of being upset because we are "NO LONGER STAYING HERE FOR FREE". We have never stayed there for free. They also informed us that they "JUST WORK THERE FOR A PAYCHECK". I was a Front Desk Manager for a hotel and I would have been shocked to hear my Hospitality Specialists speak to our guest in such a deplorable manner. I wrote to the owner of the property because I thought he would be concerned with the bad impression his staff is leaving with guests but I never received an answer so I must assume he just doesn't care. This is the type of resort where guests go to get away from the daily grind and relax but this is no longer the place.

I used to bring my daughter here and now we include my granddaughter. We don't camp, we rent a cabin. I have been in many cabins there and they are what you might expect at a kids camp, not a resort, but they are comfortable. The horseback riding and ziplining is fun for the kids, and also the pool.

After reading some of the negative reviews, I feel compelled to write my own. We are here for the Halloween ‘Boo Springs’ event. We’ve attended several of their events here at Blue Springs and all are well organized and staffed with the friendliest people I’ve met. The staff and owners are all very welcoming and accommodating, and likely the only reason anyone would complain is because they didn’t get their way. They don’t put up with disrupted behavior and eject the riff raff when it’s needed. And I’m thankful for that. If you want the most beautiful, well kept & well staffed place to stay year round, come to Blue Springs Ranch in bourbon. You and your family will have the time of your life.

Overall, it was a nice facility, good staff, and wonderful float trip. I was tempted to give it 3 stars for the price (the extra $10 for each additional person over 2 in the 6 person cabin was a bit annoying), but we had such a great time that I went with four stars. :) Helpful 0.
