Attractions, Tours, Wineries

Sip and savor your way through five wineries in the Smoky Mountains. Your special passport gains you access to five great wineries: each with its own unique activities and snacks.

The Rocky Top Wine Trail is located in the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains and is comprised of five wineries, offering over 60 unique varities of wine to sample for free! Visitors pick up a Rocky Top Wine Trail Passport at their first stop, have it stamped at each location, and then receive a free logo wine glass at the third stop and a free t-shirt for completing the trail. Free wine tastings are offered at every location and free tours of the wine cellars and tank rooms are given from 12-5pm at Mountain Valley Winery, Mill Bridge Winery, and Hillside Winery.

Our Wineries

Hillside Winery . Partnering with local grape farmers, Hillside Winery is responsible for crushing over 856,000 pounds of TN grapes to be made into wine annually! Come sample the excellence of our Italian style and Bubbly wines. Our educational and family friendly tours are a great way to learn about the winemaking process! Wine tastings are always free and other Tennessee products are often available for sampling.Be sure to ask about our Sweetwater Valley Cheese selection.

Apple Barn Winery . Located on the banks of the Little Pigeon River in the Apple Barn Village, the Apple Barn Winery is next door to the world-famous Apple Barn General Store & Cider Mill, two great restaurants, a bakery, a candy store, an ice cream shop, and a Christmas shop. The Apple Barn Winery offers a unique twist on wine. Our wine is hand crafted in small lots on the farm to provide each customer the best possible wine from local fruit.Open daily for tasting and sales, our family oriented staff would love for you to stop by.Even if you are not a wine connoisseur , you will still take pleasure in browsing our gift shop full of unique items as well as wine accessories. Our video tour is a wonderful educational experience that provides the opportunity to learn more about the winemaker’s art.

Apple Barn Cider House . The Apple Barn Cider House now offers – for the very first time – hard ciders crafted on-site for free sample and purchase. Unlike many other hard ciders in the market, we take special care to retain as much of the fresh apple cider taste as possible – utilizing a sterile filtration method rather than a full pasteurization process. This allows the cider to retain its clean, smooth, and crisp aspects rather than the general “cooked apple” flavor you sometimes get from other makers.

Mountain Valley Winery . Mountain Valley Winery started producing wine in 1991 and has since come out with many popular award-winning varieties. With a focus on making French and German style wines along with a great selection of sweet- fruit wines we strive to continually provide excellent choices for our visitors! Located just past the Titanic Museum attraction in Pigeon Forge, Mountain Valley is in the heart of the Smoky Mountain vacation area.Visit us today and see us bottle wine or crush grapes during the months of September – October. Samples are FREE along with tours of the winemaking area!

Mill Bridge Hard Cider Company : Formerly Mill Bridge Winery, this addition to the Rocky Top Wine Trail transitioned into a hard cider company for 2024. Sit back and relax on the outdoor patio that overlooks the beautiful Little Pigeon River. Using 80% of locally grown fruit, we create a variety of hard cider flavors. Popular flavors include a traditional hard cider called Farmhouse Cider, Apple Blueberry, and Apple Pomegranate. When visiting Mill Bridge Hard Cider Company you will notice the atmosphere is very laid back and urban like. Whether you are looking for some wine for your vacation, to take home with you, or as a gift, we are the stop for you. Come on in and sample local Tennessee hard cider.

Wine Me, Shine Me, Dine Me Tour

Wine me, dine me, shine me tour, hosted by mike and jenn.

Save the driving to the pros and we will just have fun! We get to ride in style on a luxury high top van or limo bus.

This experience hits it all! Wine, Moonshine, Local cuisine, and Appalachian culture.

Let the Husband/Wife team - Mike and Jenn (Hosts of the #1 rated Airbnb Experience Moonshine Walking tour) show you around Pigeon Forge.

We are living our dream showing people this amazing town we came to love over 10 years ago after visiting just like you are!

We meet right across from the Islands in Pigeon Forge!  It is easy to get to from everywhere in the surrounding area.  Once we meet up we will go over what we will do and the guidelines.  After this we will head to one of our favorite distilleries in the area. We will sample "grain to bottle" spirits from Vodka, Moonshine and Whiskey. Next you will be treated to an AMAZING lunch! No bagged lunch here! Fresh and awesome! We will be avoiding the tourist trap distilleries and take you to where WE shop!  The distilleries we go to make their own spirits from start to finish!

After lunch we will either head to a local winery owned by one of the most famous wine families in the region or we will go to our moonshine distillery and do their wine tasting.

One thing to keep in mind that the South is known for sweet wine!  All dry wines in our area are imported grapes.  A true wine experience here is muscadine!  It is in so many country songs and really a part of Appalachian culture.  EVERYTHING is sweeter in the south!

After our wine tasting, We will head out in the van/bus to a true backwoods heritage owned moonshine distillery. You can sample all the way from Choco MOOOO-SHINE to Straight Off the Still 135 proof moonshine.

We have a special relationship with the distilleries we visit that only set up our tastings this way for us.  Instead of just trying a few samples on your own from a pre-determined list, come experience with us!  With almost a 5.0 rating, if your looking to have a good time and not just "taste", this is for you.  We also get special discounts at the places we stop at and they ONLY give these additional discounts to Smoky Tours.

If you are looking for something NEXT LEVEL over just walking into a distillery and having a couple samples......come ride with us!  We made this tour because this is where we shop.  We do not have any employees.  It will be myself (Michael) or my beautiful bride of 20 years...and counting (Jennifer) or both of us.

You will enjoy your tour with one or both of us.  If supporting a small family operation sounds like its for you....you are definitely for us!

Don't see your dates? Large Group? Sold out? Just Message us! Jenn and I co-host.

Romantic Things for Couples to Do in Gatlinburg

I f you haven’t guessed it by now, Gatlinburg, Tennessee, is one of my favorite destinations. Nestled in the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains, Gatlinburg is the perfect place for a romantic getaway. With its scenic beauty, outdoor adventures, and charming downtown area, there are plenty of romantic things for couples to do in Gatlinburg .

Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or simply looking to spend quality time together, Gatlinburg has it all. In this guide, we’ll explore the top romantic activities and attractions to help you plan an unforgettable escape with your loved one. My husband and I visited Gatlinburg for our 23rd wedding anniversary, and we had a wonderful time.

This post is sponsored by the Gatlinburg Convention and Visitors Bureau. All opinions are my own.

Explore Downtown Gatlinburg

Start your romantic adventure in downtown Gatlinburg. Stroll hand in hand along the bustling streets, lined with unique shops, cafes, and charming boutiques.

The downtown area is also home to the Gatlinburg Space Needle, which offers breathtaking views of the city and the surrounding mountains from its observation deck.

My favorite: Walking through  The Village . The Village is home to 27 unique gift shops, eateries, and boutiques.

We also enjoy walking through the Hollywood Star Cars Museum, where you can enjoy seeing cars from your favorite movies and television shows.

Enjoy a Romantic Dinner

Gatlinburg boasts a variety of romantic restaurants, perfect for a special evening. The Peddler Steakhouse offers a cozy atmosphere with riverside dining, while the Park Grill serves up delicious steak and seafood in a rustic setting. For a truly unique dining experience, consider The Melting Pot, known for its fondue options that are perfect for sharing.

My favorites: The Greenbrier and Cherokee Grill.

The Greenbrier is perfect for a romantic dinner. They call themselves Gatlinburg’s premier steakhouse, and I have to say I agree! Every time we’ve visited The Greenbrier, our experience has been absolutely amazing.

The restaurant is tucked away from the hustle and bustle of downtown and provides an atmosphere that makes any occasion a little more special. I recommend making a reservation, although it’s not required. You can’t go wrong with one of their in-house dry-aged steaks. And please do yourself a favor and save room for dessert! The creme brulee is amazing!

Cherokee Grill is located on the main parkway in downtown Gatlinburg. Though it’s perfect for date night , it’s also great for an evening with family and friends. The menu includes unique drinks, specials and appetizers. I had the filet and shrimp, and my husband had the pork chop. We both left happy and full!

Wine Tasting

If you love wine, you might enjoy touring the  Rocky Top Wine Trail . You might even discover one of your new favorite wines along the way. Explore the flavors of East Tennessee and enjoy some quality time sipping wine with your partner. Here are some of the wineries along the trail:

  • Mountain Valley Winery
  • Hillside Winery
  • Mill Bridge Winery
  • Apple Barn Winery
  • Smoky Mountain Winery

Gatlinburg Sky Park

Take a scenic chairlift ride to the top of Crockett Mountain at the Gatlinburg Sky Park. You’ll be treated to stunning views of the Great Smoky Mountains and the city below, making it one of the top romantic things to do.

The Sky Park in Gatlinburg is a must-visit attraction. It offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding natural beauty and provides an unforgettable experience for visitors.

The adventure begins with a scenic chairlift ride that transports you high above the forest canopy. Once at the mountaintop, you’ll find an observation deck where you can take in the awe-inspiring scenery, snap photos, and simply revel in the tranquility of the mountains.

The Sky Park also features a pedestrian suspension bridge known as the SkyBridge, which adds an extra thrill to your visit.

Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies

For a unique underwater adventure, visit Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies. Explore fascinating marine life together and be captivated by the beauty of the ocean.

Ripley’s Aquarium is home to a mesmerizing array of aquatic life. Inside, you’ll discover a wealth of marine wonders, including colorful coral reefs, playful penguins, graceful stingrays, and even the elusive sea turtle. One of the highlights of the aquarium is the mesmerizing underwater tunnel, where you can walk through a transparent tube as sharks and other marine creatures glide above and around you.

Great Smoky Mountains National Park

A visit to Gatlinburg wouldn’t be complete without spending time in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Go for a scenic drive through Cades Cove, where you might spot white-tailed deer and wild turkey. If you’re feeling adventurous, consider a guided horseback ride or a hike to Rainbow Falls. The park offers plenty of opportunities for couples to connect with nature.

Another fan favorite is the Roaring Fork Motor Trail. The Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail is an absolute gem in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. As you embark on this winding, one-way road, you’re instantly transported into a forested wonderland. The trail lives up to its name, with the Roaring Fork stream rushing alongside the road, creating a soothing soundtrack to your journey. Don’t miss this tranquil and scenic drive when visiting the area.

Ober Mountain

Ober Mountain is a great place for fun activities. Take the Aerial Tramway for an exciting ride to the top of the mountain. Once you arrive on the mountain, you can enjoy skiing, snow tubing (in the winter), ice skating (in the winter), and a wildlife encounter. Ober Mountain also offers meal options with scenic views.

For a thrilling experience, head to the top of Anakeesta Mountain. You can reach the summit via a chondola ride or the Ridge Rambler. Once at the top, explore the tree canopy walkways, dine at one of the restaurants, and take in the stunning views from the observation deck.

If you visit Anakeesta at night , you can experience Astra Lumina, an evening immersive entertainment experience. Grab your partner and enjoy a nighttime journey through the forest that combines elements of storytelling, light displays, music, and interactive art to create a magical and enchanting experience.

Moonshine Tastings

Tennessee is known for its moonshine, and you can taste some of the best at places like Sugarlands Distillery or Ole Smoky Moonshine Distillery. Sample a variety of flavors and enjoy a unique tasting experience.

Couple’s Massage

Pamper yourselves with a couple’s massage at one of Gatlinburg’s spas. It’s a great way to unwind and de-stress together.

Gatlinburg offers plenty of opportunities for live music. Whether it’s a local band at a downtown venue or a performance at a dinner show in Pigeon Forge, enjoy the music scene with your partner.

Relax in your vacation rental

After you’ve soaked up all the fun your heart can handle, relax in your vacation rental. There are several cabins, chalets, and hotels that offer a serene retreat from the hustle and bustle of the Gatlinburg strip. Whether you’re lounging on a deck, savoring a cup of coffee while gazing at the forested vistas, or unwinding in the bubbling hot tub under the starlit sky, you’re sure to find tranquility.

We typically rent a cabin when we’re in the area, but we recently chose Courtyard by Marriott Downtown Gatlinburg and it did not disappoint! First, let’s talk about the location, the location, the location! This hotel is conveniently located within walking distance of several popular Gatlinburg attractions and delicious restaurants. We only moved the car once during our stay! Our room was spacious, clean, and packed with all the amenities needed for a comfortable stay. My favorite part–the outdoor patio area, complete with a beautiful firepit that was perfect for evening nightcaps.

Gatlinburg, Tennessee, is undoubtedly a romantic place. With its stunning natural beauty, outdoor adventures, and charming downtown area, it’s the perfect destination for couples seeking a special and memorable getaway. Whether you’re enjoying the scenic views, savoring a romantic meal, or indulging in exciting activities, Gatlinburg has something to offer every couple looking for a little romance. So, pack your bags, plan your trip, and get ready for a great time in this beautiful corner of North America.
