Eumundi Distillers is a boutique distillery located at The Imperial Hotel Eumundi in the Noosa hinterland on the Sunshine Coast, Qld. The majestic Queenslander hotel is also home to the Eumundi Brewery and some seriously refreshing beers.

With its colourful creative decor and murals, sweeping verandahs, sensational beer garden and relaxed vibe, this iconic hotel is certainly a Sunshine Coast 'must-do'.

The hotel is also a great place to soak up live music, with acoustic sets in The Beer Garden all weekend + some of the best bands in the business playing ticketed shows in our entertainment spaces known as The Bunker and The Brewery.

Established in 2020, the distillery produces small batch handmade spirits using the best UK juniper and featuring the finest botanicals mixed with local Cooroy Mountain spring water.

Our Distiller, Olivia Corless is a Sunshine Coast Hinterland local, who has been crafting fabulous spirits at Eumundi Distillers since late 2022. Olivia began her career in the industry as a mixologist at a number of upscale bars along the coast and her background in cocktails and bars was a seamless transition to distilling spirits. With a passion for cocktails, a wealth of knowledge and a keen eye on global trends we are excited to see what Olivia creates for Eumundi Distillery.

Why Folktale Gin? What’s in the name?

It’s about folk – people – with a tale to tell, with stories to share.

We’re folk with tales to tell in Eumundi. There truly are so many stories. Stories of timber town times and the legendary Dick Caplick; stories of hotel ghosts; stories of colourful artists and their adventures at Eumundi Markets, and lots of stories about brewing beer.

And boy do we like to share a story or two – sometimes over a coffee, sometimes over a Folktale Gin cocktail, sometimes a Eumundi Brewery beer.

Each bottle of Folktale gin has its own story – or tale – to tell.

Folktale Eumundi Gin

Our beautiful bottle features the mystical Folktale Cat … such a purrrfect fit for gin.

And there’s the magic in the alchemy that is part of distilling. When we take something ordinary (like the humble juniper berry) and turn it into something extraordinary.

Our distilling team can tell fabulous tales of “cats” selling gin in London back in the 18th century to avoid fines for selling less than two gallons of gin under the Gin Act.

And, did you know, Eumundi Distillery is adjacent to the Eumundi Brewery? … and traditionally breweries always had cats to keep mice from the grain.

Folktale Navy Strength Eumundi Gin

The Folktale Fox, another mythical mystical character, stares out at you from our bottle, beckoning the drinker to try the best Navy Strength local craft gin in the region. He too has tales to tell!

And, let’s not forget folktales … the ancient fables. Think Aesop’s … and there they are again … the pairing of the fox and the cat.

Folktale Eumundi Gin (43% ABV)

What’s a folk tale without great characters? Folktale Gin uses the finest traditional gin ingredients including English juniper, English angelica root, coriander seed, lavender flower, cassia bark, cardamom and fresh citrus to set the stage. But our story really gets going when our own Australian native characters join in, with lemon and anise myrtles and pepperberry, combining with local Cooroy Mountain spring water, to produce our truly unique gin.

Folktale Navy Strength Eumundi Gin (57.1% ABV)

For those who want to hear the tale told in full – with no holds barred! This gin is a reminder of days when being paid in spirits meant you had to prove your worth. Utilising fresh local ginger, limes and lemon myrtle, Folktale Navy Strength Eumundi Gin gives a real taste of Eumundi and the Sunshine Coast. Bottled at 57.1% ABV, it’s sure to please both gin lovers and thirsty sailors!

Folktale Eumundi Kaffir Lime Gin (40% ABV)

What’s a folk tale without great characters? Folktale Kaffir Lime Gin uses the finest traditional gin ingredients including English juniper, English angelica root, coriander seed, lavender flower, cassia bark, cardamom and fresh citrus to set the stage. Folktale Eumundi Pink Gin (40% ABV)

Our gins have been crafted with the finest traditional and local botanicals. In the days when sailors’ pay included a daily ration of alcohol, high strength spirits were the drink of choice. If sailors thought the captain was watering down the drink, they would call for “proof”. A drop of spirit was added to a small amount of gunpowder and lit with a match. If the powder flared, the spirit was proved. If the captain had been adding water to the barrel, the powder would not burn. This is the origin of British Imperial proof and 100 proof is 57.1% ABV.

In addition to our signature gins, we’ll also be releasing a range of seasonal varieties – each with its own personality and delicate flavour profile. These will only be available at the Tasting Bar at The Imperial Hotel Eumundi. With concepts ranging from strawberry gin using fresh Eumundi fruit to a spicy Tom Yum gin made with local galangal, lemongrass and kaffir lime, our distilling team will be constantly searching for new ways to create bespoke, small batch gin.

Secreted away in an unassuming industrial estate, this Gin tasting room is an experience not to be missed for the Gin connoisseur or those who need an introduction to the world of Gin. Order the tasting board (or flight ) and sample four of 2020’s gins, whilst Captain Danny gives you the story behind this innovative local business. Their cheese board to share, showcasing local cheeses, is a perfect addition to enjoy with your drink. Not far away is the quaint town of Pomona sitting at the base of Mt Coorooa, where we find Pomona Distilling Co. A small-batch boutique distillery, built on a historical site and hand-built from reclaimed materials, giving it a welcoming character and charm, and a perfect spot to try the gin tasting board or even a delicious lunch. Another exciting addition is the new distillery at the Imperial Hotel in the picturesque Eumundi. This charming country pub and craft brewery has a cool laid back vibe, with live music at the weekends, and offers a delicious menu including usual pub favorites and something a little different.
