If you live rousing sing-a-longs, nostalgic 80s rock and a band who give you the sense of connecting with them as people not just a presence on stage then Glass Tiger are the band to check out.

The Canadian rock outfit are veteran performers; having been honing their live shows for over 30 years. As such Glass Tiger have developed quite the stage presence which has given them a strong reputation. This is probably the reason that when you see them live the room is always packed out, even after three decades.

They don’t bound around the stage like many of the younger rock bands, some of which they share a stage with at festivals, but whilst their stage presence might not be quite as energetic as it once may have been they still know how to get the best out of their audience.

Almost every song includes some kind of audience participation; whether it’s the entire congregation on their feet clapping in time of the chilling moments where the band stop playing as a room full of fans sing back to them.

The space between songs is often filled with personal anecdotes from the band which really gives you a feeling of connection between yourself and the band.

This is part of the reason why Glass Tiger are still popular to this day. Their personal connection to their fans is something that a lot of newer bands severely lack and why some don’t manage to stick around as long as their musical ability suggests they should.

Tour dates may no longer be at a premium for Glass Tiger but you can be sure that when they do hit the stage you will be in for a real treat.

They did an acoustic show for the first time. It was interactive and intimate. I absolutely loved it! Alan told some stories and jokes and sang their classics. We met the guys after the show to autograph my sons sign he made and had a group photo taken.

I have been a fan since 1986 and grew up with their music. They still rock to this day and never disappoint their fans.

Albeit they were a “special guest”....it my whole reason for going. I grew up in the 80s and glass Tiger was my fav band. Alan continues to amaze me and I will be back to see him again at the next venue. Look forward to it....oh and the new album “31”.

Glass Tiger

Glass Tiger. Pop group, formed as Tokyo in Newmarket, near Toronto, in the early 1980s. It brought together former members of Onyx and The End - Alan Frew (vocals), Al Connelly (guitar), Sam Reid (keyboards), Wayne Parker (bass guitar) and Michael Hanson (drums). Adopting the name Glass Tiger in 1985, the band moved quickly to the forefront of Canadian pop music on the strength of its first LP, The Thin Red Line (Cap ST-6527), released in 1986, the album sold more than 400,000 copies domestically and 500,000 in the USA. It included two international hits, 'Don't Forget Me (When I'm Gone)' and 'Someday,' as well as 'The Thin Red Line,' 'What I Look For' and 'I'll Be There,' which were all popular in Canada.

This early success brought Glass Tiger Juno awards in 1986 for single ('Don't Forget Me') and album of the year, and as most promising group. In 1987, it received a Juno for single of the year ('Someday') and a (US) Grammy nomination as best new artist. A second LP, Diamond Sun (Cap C11V-48684), issued in 1988, included the Canadian hits 'I'm Still Searching,' 'Diamond Sun,' 'My Song,' 'Send Your Love,' and '(Watching) Worlds Crumble'. Canadian sales exceeded 200,000.

Hanson left Glass Tiger in 1988, his place taken on tour by Randall Coryell and on record by other drummers. A third album, Simple Mission (Cap 92922, CD and cass), issued in 1991, revealed a more aggressive rock style and included the hits 'Animal Heart,' 'Rhythm of Your Love,' and 'My Town'. As fronted by Frew (b Coatbridge, Scotland, 8 Nov 1958), Glass Tiger has been especially popular with teenaged audiences and in 1988 won a Juno in the entertainer of the year category as selected by write-in ballot. In addition to its concerts in Canada, the band has appeared in the USA (1986, opening for Journey ) and in Europe (in 1987 opening for Tina Turner, and in 1991 opening for Roxette).

Top 5 lists, memory jogger podcast, interview with alan frew, lead singer of glass tiger.

glass tiger tour history

Alan: Glass Tiger formed from the best of two local bands. ONYX (which had Wayne [Parker], Al [Connelly] and myself) and THE END (which had Michael [Hanson] and Sam [Reid]). We changed the name from Tokyo to Glass Tiger to signify the change from local bar band to recording band. Nothing complicated in how names were chosen. Just messing around with words until you find something you like and can all agree upon.

glass tiger tour history

Alan:  Parents move to Canada and decide that for you. Got into some guitar playing in early '70s and found out that I had a knack for song-writing. Always knew I had a voice so that part was more understandable when some locals asked me to join their band.
Alan: The industry isn’t an industry anymore. It is self ownership. Self employed. Self promoted. It is multi-directional where almost anyone can have a career as long as they have a laptop and an internet connection. It’s a good thing and a bad thing all rolled into one for it allows greatness to be discovered that otherwise would have been overlooked but it allows also mountains of crap to surface disguised as talent. I keep my passion because I love the craft of communicating. I adapt and re-adapt to change consistently and continuously which allows me a fresh approach to my career each and every day.
Alan: I knew it was a great song with all the elements of a “hit” but you are never prepared for it to “go through the roof” as it did, so yes it was still a surprise. It changed the game. It put us in the “big leagues” brought us to the homes of millions all over the world.

glass tiger tour history

Alan:  It had an impact which was more of a novelty than anything else. The song was a great song with or without Bryan so I have no doubt it would have done exactly what it did. That said, it was a ton of fun to do it with him. We cross paths very seldom but when we do we always “catch up.”
Alan: It’s not that they are different. It is just that the industry, the companies, the “machines” behind them are different and were VERY different back then. So for obvious reasons the U.S. “machine” was all about promoting the U.S. bands and music for better or for worse. So many of the other bands fall by the wayside with time.

glass tiger tour history

Alan: “Someday” is a great song, well written. I particularly like “My Town” and a song called “This Island Earth.” From my solo work songs like “So Blind,” “Falling at Your Feet,” “That’s Life” and “I Believe” stand out for me.
Alan: Never really broke up. Just went on hiatus allowing me time for solo work. We never seem to be able to get it together on the new music front as a band. But you never know.
Alan:  It stays alive simply through our music but that’s it. The '80s were then, this is now. Looking back is no different than looking at old photographs or yearbooks. You look. You cringe, you laugh… you move on.
Alan:  It’s my take on life, passion, abundance, intention etc. It falls under the term self-help or motivational genre but that’s a label that book stores use not me. I do know however that the principles I speak of are the same ones I have been using since my negotiating days in the streets and play yards of Scotland and they have carried me to all of my successes in this life of mine. I make the book fun and interesting to say the least. Very “un-typical” of anything on the shelves next to me.
Alan:  With the success of my Olympic song “I Believe” recorded by teen sensation Nikki Yanofsky, I received offers to sign publishing deals. I accepted one from Ole Publishing and plan to enter another serious writing phase in Nashville and L.A. come 2011. I continue to tour in Canada as a solo performer and public speaker and also with Glass Tiger. I work closely with charities benefiting breast cancer research and survivors and work closely with the men and women of our armed forces and our allies. I’ve been in Bosnia, Egypt, Israel, the Arctic and Afghanistan twice with them . I have the framework of a new book laid out and still dabble in acting. All is well. Busy as always but “Loving Every Minute of It”…oh, wait! That’s Loverboy….

Glass Tiger Release First New Album Since 1991, Hit the Road with Corey Hart

Canadian rockers Glass Tiger are in the midst of a serious resurgence in recent years. Touring more than they have since their late-1980s heyday, when they were topping Canadian charts and getting loads of airplay and video play for hits such as Don’t Forget Me (When I’m Gone) , Animal Heart , Someday , My Town , Thin Red Line and Diamond , the band is currently in the midst of a cross-Canada adventure, opening for a equally resurgent Corey Hart.

The two 1980s icons and former labelmates at Capitol EMI started in St. John’s Newfoundland on May 31 and will wrap up their jaunt on June 25 in Vancouver, with five stops taking place in Ontario, including London, Sudbury, Kingston, Toronto and Ottawa. Vocalist Alan Frew will be joined by long-time bandmates Al Connelly (guitar) and keyboardist Sam Reid, as well as drummer Chris McNeill who has been touring with the band for nearly two decades. Regular bassist Wayne Parker is busy with other business ventures and will skip the tour but is still very much part of the band.

Glass Tiger is also touring in support of their first album of new material in nearly three decades – the opening salvo of a promised creative outpouring that could see many more new songs released in the near future.

“Back in the 1980s, he was out just ahead of us and had immense success with Sunglasses At Night and other songs, so we certainly knew of Corey. We used to bump into him quite a bit. There’s a really old picture on Facebook of Alan and I and Corey back in 1985 or 1986 in Manhattan when he was working the record in the U.S. We were very aware of Corey and he was aware of us, but we have never collaborated on any live shows or tours,” said Reid.

“And there was the fact that Corey took himself out of the business for a while and is now coming back so strongly. It’s a real treat to be asked to be on this tour. He hasn’t been on the road like this for 20 years. We have never played with him live and we’re pretty excited about it. From what I have been reading on our socials, a lot of fans are really excited to see Corey and then they’re like, ‘oh wow, and Glass Tiger is there too.’ So, I think it’s a great package. We tend to do a lot of packages and we love playing with other bands from our era like Honeymoon Suite and Platinum Blonde , who are all great friends.”

It was landing the Corey Hart tour that compelled the band to clamp down and get enough material recorded to release an album of some sort to coincide with the tour. The result is the aforementioned six song EP entitled 33 (commemorating the band’s 33 anniversary as a recording act.)

“Our original plan, after we put out 31 [a re-imagining of Glass Tiger hits released in 2017], a lot of fans said they loved it but wanted new material. We had a bunch of new songs, it was just focussing on them and getting them done, in the midst of collaborating with Johnny Reid on 31 and then touring with him. I said to Alan, ‘while we’re touring this summer, maybe we put out one song and then in another month we put out another song, and by the end of the year, we have enough for an album and just kind of dole it out throughout the year,’” said Reid, who added that the album was released on his own Willow Music Label, with distribution through Warner Music Canada.

“But then at the last minute, an option came up to do this tour with Corey Hart and we felt it would be kind of silly to be on the road coast to coast and not have some physical copies of new music. We needed to take the six songs we were going to release one at a time and go in and do our best to get them done in time and bring that album out on the road and have something brand new that’s at least an EP. So, the tour was what made us giddy up and get it done.

“We were on a timeline because of the tour. And because we have a new working relationship with Warner Music, we told them what we were going to do and they said, ‘wow, we had so much fun working with you guys on 31 , we would love to put it out.’ It’s a new family for us and I looked at their schedule and told the guys that we only had six weeks to make this record, because there’s time you have to set aside to prep it and get in manufactured and do all the marketing stuff. I knew we could do the six songs if we concentrated and focused. And I think it’s the right move to release a collection of new songs, because we really needed to give ourselves and our fans an album, as opposed to doling it out, one song at a time. I am really glad that we made the deadline and have something substantial. That’s the most exciting thing I feel right now is leaving to start a tour and knowing we can look the fans in the face and start a tour with new stuff. ‘You asked for it, and we got it done.’”

Reid said that this won’t be the end of new material. In a sense Glass Tiger wants to make up for the 28-year gap between Simple Mission , the previous last album of original material, and 33 , as there are ambitious plans for even more recordings in the near future.

“We’ve worked hard. It’s been a 33 year investment for us. We’re very proud of that and we wanted to do this record to show the fans that we have new songs and there’s lots of new things on the way. We still love playing My Town and Someday and we will always do those songs, but we wanted to create new music and we felt the timing was right. We have also talked about this two to five year window, where we’re driving our manager nuts right now. I was talking with him recently and said we might put out a 33 1/2 . I was sort of kidding, because we’re going to be on the road most of this year, but don’t be surprised of 34 comes out next year,” he said.

“And we love this number thing. It started with 31 because we missed our 30 th because of Alan’s stroke [in the summer of 2015] and we thought it was cheeky and clever to do 31 – who the hell does 31? When it came time for this new album, we could have called the record This Is Your Life and that would have been a real predictable thing to do. It was Alan who said, ‘hey, you know 31 came out, we toured for 32, the record is out now, it’s year 33, let’s call it 33.’ And we loved it, so that’s what we did.”

Reid spoke of the freedom that the band has in terms of creating music that pleases them, as opposed to trying to fulfill the expectations of more commercial interests such as labels and radio. So, while the songs on 33 are completely recognizable as Glass Tiger , in large part due to Frew’s voice [which actually sounds stronger and more powerful since his stroke], he and Reid, along with guitarist Al Connelly, put few shackles on their writing process.

“There’s a song called The Keepers of Time which was literally written two days before we went into the studio. And then there’s one on the opposite end of the scale called Show Me , which was in our work folder eight years ago at least, when we were talking about recording tracks. So, we resurrected it for that project, and then we have some new stuff. We looked at all sources. We basically put everything into a hat like the old days and then pulled out six things that were really turning our crank. The biggest thing for us these days is we’re not kids any more. We’ve been doing this for a long time and know what we want. We know what songs we want to do, and we know the style we want to do them in. This record was produced by myself and Andrew Cole, but really the whole band has a lot of input,” he explained.

“We’ve made the fans wait from the last studio album, which was 1991. It’s overdue, it’s time. If we had just a little bit more time, it would have been a 10-song record. We have enough material. But we wanted to do it well, we didn’t want to phone it in and rush it. So, we said, let’s just do the six songs really well. It’s an accomplishment for us. We’ve been dragging our heels a little bit for no reason. There were lots of great ideas for songs around, but it needed a focus and we just found a moment when we were ready to refocus and just do it.

“We’re at the stage where you make music for yourself first and then you push it out there and hope it resonates. We really wanted to do this, and I think we would have done it to just please a handful of people. Honestly, it’s not like we will rush this to radio and we’re breaking a band kind of thing. We are so fortunate to be around 33 years later to have a really solid fan base who has been clamouring for new music as well. We’re about to step out and tour coast to coast in Canada again, that’s our stock in trade – our fans.”

There is diversity, energy, vibrancy, a melange of tones and vibes over the six songs and, dare we say it, a maturity in both composition and lyrical content that is more a sign of confidence and resoluteness than a lack of fire and desire. This is epitomized on the lush, powerhouse opening track, Ebb and Flow and the raucous show stopper This Is London .

Another stand-out track, and one that Reid admits may surprise even the most ardent of Glass Tiger admirers, is the final cut – Dying is Easy .

“When we started looking for the sixth song, I said to Al Connelly, ‘go into your spare parts pile and give me everything you have that is finished or almost finished, that is recordable, that you really feel we need to listen to.’ I said the same thing to Alan, and I did the same. And we met in the middle and threw everything into one big metaphorical bucket. Alan has been doing a lot more writing, so there was a lot of stuff, like 30 things at least. Some of it was quite different, and there was this one thing called Dying is Easy and I loved the dryness of vocal and how different the lyric was. I loved the fact that the vocals were bone dry, like he was singing into your ear. It’s not lush at all,” Reid said.

“I asked him what the hell it was, and he said it was something he was working on for a project that was a Bonnie and Clyde thing that ended up falling through, and then it made sense. I know it’s wacky for Glass Tiger , but I love the fact of how different that track is, so I fought for it. I thought it would be a shocker, but that we needed to put it on the record. It resonated with me and I talked Alan into it. When I heard it, I didn’t get the Bonnie and Clyde thing at first. I missed the fact that he sings the name Bonnie in it. I just heard it as a song that was really different and really kind of cool.”

Spoiler alert – wait for the ‘Easter egg’ after the song finishes.

Glass Tiger is also unafraid of bringing in outside players to perform on their records. For 33 , producer Cole helped lineup the likes of legendary drummer Kenny Aronoff (John Mellencamp, John Fogerty and hundreds of recording projects), Jane’s Addiction bassist Chris Chaney, and George Pajon Jr., of the Black Eyed Peas .

“When you look back, we have never recorded an album without a guest. We’ve always had fun with those sorts of collaborations. We had Bryan Adams, we had Lisa Dalbello, we had, The Chieftains , we had Rod Stewart. On 31 we had Alan Doyle, Susan Aglukark and Julian Lennon. We love working with other artists, it’s actually a lot of fun. It also introduces a little bit of their flavour into things, and so we will continue to do that,” Reid said.

Like many within the Canadian music industry, the members of Glass Tiger continue to mourn the recent passing of well-respected long-time Capitol EMI Canada executive, Deane Cameron, who played a pivotal part in the band getting its major label deal back in the mid-1980s.

“We played one of the final shows at Massey Hall and Deane of course was the head of Massey and Roy Thomson Hall and a big part of the renovation that’s happening. We were happy last June to see Deane and play Massey Hall. I was excited to send him the new record, but then out of the blue I got a call, actually it was from Jim Vallance, who said ‘did you hear the news.’ We were in the studio and it just blindsided us. Alan spoke at the service, because Deane was such a huge part of Glass Tiger ’s early history. I spoke to some people at his memorial about how nervous I was at 19 years old walking in the door at Capitol Records feeling really intimidated and Deane made us feel welcome immediately,” Reid said.

“Deane was the A&R guy when we got signed and then became president. We loved the fact that not only did he become president, but he actually started at Capitol EMI as a forklift driver in the warehouse and worked his way up. If you ever see pictures of us receiving awards in the early years with Capitol Records, they will always be in the warehouse and that’s because Deane never wanted to do anything in the corporate offices. The entire staff who were shrink-wrapping and packing the albums were all given a break and we went into the warehouse and that’s where we posed for pictures and thanked them all. Deane always had this attachment to the workers there, because that’s where he came from.

“And he was a music guy, he knew how to read music, he was a drummer and played in a band with Tom Cochrane called Harvest – so he was the real deal. Deane Cameron had great ears and great instincts and we were so lucky that he was the guy we got connected with in our early years, because we could have had a very different career, or no career without that.”

Glass Tiger ’s 33 was not only released on CD and on all digital platforms, but also on special red vinyl and … if you’re a real nostalgia buff … on cassette.

Glass Tiger Releases Holiday Album With A Pop Twist – All Original Material Features All-Star Cast

By Keith Sharp

Not being a religious person, Glass Tiger lead vocalist, Alan Frew was less than enthusiastic about recording a Christmas album, even though his record label, Warner Music Canada had been relentlessly pushing the band for such a seasonal offering. The idea of reworking a batch of the usual Christmas standards held no appeal for the self-proclaimed atheist Glaswegian nor were his bandmates Sam Reid and Al Conne lly

Glass Tiger

But considering what a hellish year 2020 has been with the raging COVID-19 global pandemic, the political unrest south of the border and a whole slew of natural climate disasters, Frew and Reid had a chat about recording an album which would deliver a timely message about coming together, fellowship and family in the guise of a holiday release.

The result is `Songs For A Winter Night’ a unique collection of 10 tracks, written by Frew, Reid and Connolly which feature a central seasonal theme but are produced like a contemporary pop album. And to make this opus particularly special, Frew hit his Rolodex to draw in an all-star cast of contributors including the legendary Gordon Lightfoot , Anglo-Francophone star, Roch Voisine , East Coast fiddle talent  Natalie MacMaster and even Lebanese/Canadian Opera performer  Isabel Bayrakdarian .

“Sam and I had a chat and we decided that people could really use a little coming together,” explained Frew. “We have a pandemic, people are scared and there’s all that political shit going on down South. So we agreed to do this album if we could write all the songs and make them original.”

The end result is a record which features three separate versions of one track; “Happy Holidays”, an English version which also features Voisine, an Anglo-French version with Voisine and finally a Glass Tiger version complete with a trumpet solo and an outro “Home For The Holidays” which sounds like something George Formby might have recorded in the 1940s.

“A Song For A Winter’s Night” is pure East Coast with Natalie McMaster’s fiddle solo bringing the track to life, Songs like “Santa Get Your Sleight”, “Christmas With You” and “Give Love For Christmas” are straight out pop songs containing a seasonal message and there’s even a contemporary spin on that classic Jimmy Stewart Christmas movie, “It’s A Wonderful Life” with Glass Tiger joining forces with British musician Steve Sidwell on a unique collaboration.

Natalie McMaster

Then there’s “An Everyday Wish” which features an operatic vocal interlude from the renowned opera star Isabel Bayrakdarian who currently serves as assistant producer of voice at the prestigious University of California.

And top off this extraordinary production, Gordon Lightfoot verbalizes a poem written by Frew titled “Ode for a Winter’s Night”.

Gordon Lightfoot

“I knew it was unlikely that I would get a vocal out of Gordon so I just wrote to him and suggested he check out the idea of him reading a Christmas message,” Frew explained. “Gordon said okay, so then I had to scramble to write something, It was the last thing I wrote for the album, I drove over to his house, we sat on his porch (maintaining social distancing) he liked the poem and he nailed it after we ran through it seven or eight times. That was his way of saying `there you go boys!”

Frew claims he got the inspiration for the poem from the song he collaborated with his old mate Johnny Reid, “Wae Yer Family”. “There’s a family toast in the middle of that song, and we thought that concept of toasting your family this holiday would be appropriate.”

He agrees that the arrangement for “Happy Holidays” has all the elements of a classic pop song and admits that the instrumental arrangements for that track had originally been saved for a more atypical pop track. “Sam and I thought, if we commit these pieces of music to a Christmas song, there’s no turning back. We wanted it to be the best pop Christmas song it could be and it’s great that it sounds like it could stand alone as a pop song.”

Roch Voisine

Anglo-Francophone star Roch Voisine was drafted in to record two versions of the song, strengthening a relationship that goes back several years with Frew. “Roch appeared on my first solo album (`Healing Hands’) in 1994 and we later collaborated on two songs which he recently released. I sang with him at Massey Hall so we are both good friends. It was logical that we do a Francophone version of “Happy Holidays” and we also let him sing on the English version.”

As for the inclusion of Isabel Bayrakdarian on “An Everyday Wish”, Frew explained “We had that song well on its way but when we got to the instrument/orchestral part we thought, wouldn’t it be cool if an opera singer sang over the top of it. So we went online and tracked down Isabel. As it turns out, she was going into an empty theatre in California to record some of her own stuff so she said she could do our bit at the same time. So she sang her part in California, and I sang my part in Florence, Italy and we brought it all together.”

Isabel Bayrakdarian

Considering all the elements that Glass Tiger initiated for `Songs For A Winter’s Night’, Frew has high praise for the production work, Sam Reid achieved in performing a masterful job of connecting all the outside influences which went into creating this album. “Sam was the one who suggested the Gordon Lightfoot idea. Considering all the challenges, he did an outstanding in bringing this all together, he doesn’t get the credit he deserved but we all think that he crushed it on this record.”

It should not come as a surprise that even 34 years after the band first emerged from Newmarket Ontario with their debut 1986 `The Thin Red Line’ release (which has been lauded as a classic rock release), Glass Tiger continues to be an ever-evolving creative force. Even as recent as 2019, they released a six-track EP titled `33’ which featured two tracks; “This Is Your Life” and “This Is London” which would have been monster hit tracks at any other time in the band’s accomplished history.

Glass Tiger can still pull an audience as evident in their support slot on last year’s Corey Hart, Never Surrender national tour where they more than held their own, performing before 15,000 fans at Toronto’s Budweiser Stage.

As Frew himself admits, the only impediment to the band’s future is his own health mishaps. He famously crocked his knee playing soccer for the Music Express team the day before heading out on tour. More serious was the stroke he suffered in 2015 and the broken neck he endured during the start of last year’s Corey Hart tour. A published author (who is in the process of writing his biography), a public speaker, an actor and someone who’s also writing a screenplay, Frew has a lot going for him off-stage but performing in front of Glass Tiger is still his first love.

“I still have my full vocal range, I can still reach all the keys, If I stop having strokes, breaking my neck and busting my knee, I’ll be alright.”

And as for future objectives. “We want to write a killer rock anthem,” Frew announced. “Some people might say it’s fuckin shit but others will say it’s fuckin brilliant. But so long as they talk about it. I would hate a wishy-washy reaction. I want people to love it or hate it.”

Fun facts from our Moscow Metro Tours:

From the very first days of its existence, the Moscow Metro was the object of civil defense, used as a bomb shelter, and designed as a defense for a possible attack on the Soviet Union.

At a depth of 50 to 120 meters lies the second, the coded system of Metro-2 of Moscow subway, which is equipped with everything you need, from food storage to the nuclear button.

According to some sources, the total length of Metro-2 reaches over 150 kilometers.

The Museum was opened on Sportivnaya metro station on November 6, 1967. It features the most interesting models of trains and stations.

Coffee Ring

The first scheme of Moscow Metro looked like a bunch of separate lines. Listen to a myth about Joseph Stalin and the main brown line of Moscow Metro.

Zodiac Metro

According to some astrologers, each of the 12 stops of the Moscow Ring Line corresponds to a particular sign of the zodiac and divides the city into astrological sector.

Astrologers believe that being in a particular zadiac sector of Moscow for a long time, you attract certain energy and events into your life.

Paleontological finds

Red marble walls of some of the Metro stations hide in themselves petrified inhabitants of ancient seas. Try and find some!

  • Every day each car in  Moscow metro passes  more than 600 km, which is the distance from Moscow to St. Petersburg.
  • Moscow subway system is the  5th in the intensity  of use (after the subways of Beijing, Tokyo, Seoul and Shanghai).

Moscow Metro

The Moscow Metro Tour is included in most guided tours’ itineraries. Opened in 1935, under Stalin’s regime, the metro was not only meant to solve transport problems, but also was hailed as “a people’s palace”. Every station you will see during your Moscow metro tour looks like a palace room. There are bright paintings, mosaics, stained glass, bronze statues… Our Moscow metro tour includes the most impressive stations best architects and designers worked at - Ploshchad Revolutsii, Mayakovskaya, Komsomolskaya, Kievskaya, Novoslobodskaya and some others.

What is the kremlin in russia?

The guide will not only help you navigate the metro, but will also provide you with fascinating background tales for the images you see and a history of each station.

And there some stories to be told during the Moscow metro tour! The deepest station - Park Pobedy - is 84 metres under the ground with the world longest escalator of 140 meters. Parts of the so-called Metro-2, a secret strategic system of underground tunnels, was used for its construction.

During the Second World War the metro itself became a strategic asset: it was turned into the city's biggest bomb-shelter and one of the stations even became a library. 217 children were born here in 1941-1942! The metro is the most effective means of transport in the capital.

There are almost 200 stations 196 at the moment and trains run every 90 seconds! The guide of your Moscow metro tour can explain to you how to buy tickets and find your way if you plan to get around by yourself.
