Headlight adjustment for driving on right active

  • Add to quote

Every time I start my Tiguan I get the above message in the dash. Is it right for normal use in the UK, or has the previous owner left it set for driving abroad? To my way of thinking we drive on the left...

You need to check in the infotainment system by selecting 'Car, Setup, Lights' that the option 'travel mode' is not active, as that's how you temporarily switch it over for right hand driving. Steve

I have Travel Mode: Left Hand Traffic Right Hand Traffic. Right hand is ticked, which I think is wrong for UK driving.

Why am I not surprised that a vehicle that has allegedly gone through the VW, Das Welt Auto 142 point check has the headlights set incorrectly! I've been wondering why my lights don't seem to turn on cornering and only change from main beam to dip as cars approach unlike other posts that I've read on here.

Set it to left hand traffic and no more messages on the dash!

Cheers Steve. Just needed someone else to confirm my thoughts. Didn't want to swap it in case it was set correctly as I'd read on here that somebody couldn't get their lights to switch back over after going to France and I didn't want mine to get stuck.

Hi, I'm back and to from France pretty much month about (Eurotunnel) so changing the LED headlight setting, along with clock and speed/milage happens each way during the crossing. Never had a problem BUT the auto dip is not so good for recognising oncoming HGVs on the Autoroutes. I'm presuming the solid concrete divide hides the oncoming headlights but the driver is dazzled by my lights, sitting high in his cab. I revert to manual main/dip operation if I start to get 'flashed'. If you park a few meters away, facing a wall,in the dark, and adjust the LHDriving to RHDriving and back again you will see that for Driving on the right the near side headlight beam is lowered to the same height as the off side beam. Reselecting Driving on the left the near side beam is raised above the off side beam to get the correct asymmetric beam pattern. HTH and not egg sucking.

Volkswagen Golf Owners Manual: Switching over headlights for driving abroad (travel mode)

vw touran travel mode

If you have to drive a right-hand drive vehicle in a left-hand drive country, or vice versa, the asymmetric dipped beam headlights may dazzle oncoming traffic with xenon headlights. Therefore, the headlights must be switched over if you are driving abroad.

Travel Assist 1

Part of the iq.drive safety-enhancing and intelligent technologies.

The Travel Assist feature is a semi-automated driving assistant that blends the functions of Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Keep Assist to help your Volkswagen maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead and keeps you centered in the lane.

Reduce driver workload and fatigue

Supports driver steering, braking, and accelerating

The Travel Assist feature in your Volkswagen combines Adaptive Cruise Control with Lane Assist to help maintain the vehicle 's position within the lane. When activated, it provides the driver with steering assistance , braking, and acceleration support.

This feature allows the vehicle to maintain a predetermined distance from the vehicle in front and stay centered in the lane within the system's limitations. It utilizes adaptive lane guidance to regulate the vehicle 's speed and steering, providing a comfortable driving experience .

CGI VW vehicle driving on highway.

Assists in emergency situations

Helps prevent collisions caused by driver inactivity or medical emergencies

When Travel or Lane Assist is active and something serious happens where you lose the ability to drive, Emergency Assist helps safely bring the vehicle to a stop and will contact assistance for you.

The ins and outs of  travel assist

How it works

Designed to prevent fatigue on long highway trips, Travel Assist combines Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Assist to help keep your vehicle centered in its lane, and maintain a preset distance from the vehicle ahead. Uses steering, braking and acceleration.

Instructions

  • To activate, engage Adaptive Cruise Control and then switch to Travel Assist by pressing the ACC button on steering wheel. If Travel Assist is activated, a green indicator light will show in your digital cockpit.
  • To set the speed, accelerate to the desired speed and press the SET button on the steering wheel.
  • To deactivate, press the brake pedal. To resume, press the RES button on the steering wheel.
  • To switch back to Adaptive Cruise Control, press the ACC button again on the steering wheel.

Limitations

  • Both hands must be on the steering wheel.
  • Braking force is limited. If additional emergency braking is needed, Front Assist may intervene.
  • The following situations can disable the system:
  • Damage to, misalignment of or blockage of the sensor.
  • Towing heavy trailers or carrying heavy cargo in the rear of the vehicle , which can elevate the front of the vehicle and change sensor angles.
  • To keep you centered in the lane, the vehicle must be able to detect clear road markings; if the markings are clear, the green indicator light in your digital cockpit will include green lanes.
  • Designed to detect vehicles that are moving in the same direction of travel; does not react to oncoming or intersecting vehicles .
  • System may not keep the vehicle in the lane in the following conditions:
  • Poor weather conditions.
  • Unclear lane markings.
  • Driving below 35 miles per hour.
  • Driving on a narrow curve.
  • You must be driving above a minimum speed to activate the system. For some models the minimum speed is 15 mph; for others, it is 20 mph.
  • Only reacts to objects within the sensor’s line of sight; some vehicles such as those depicted below are not detected until they are within the sensor’s line of sight.
  • Once activated, system only operates between 0 and 95 mph.
  • The following situations can lead to unwanted braking:
  • Damage to or misalignment of the sensor or sensor mounting.
  • Sensor blockage, which can be caused by ice/snow buildup, dirt, mud or leaves.
  • Towing heavy trailers or carrying heavy cargo in the rear of the vehicle , which can elevate the front of the vehicle and change sensor angles.
  • Curvature in the road.

Volkswagen touran review: peak practicality.

The world might have gone SUV and crossover mad, but if you've a brood of three (or more) to cart around then a mid-sized crossover like the Nissan Qashqai doesn't actually cut it. That's why - despite their perceived lack of sexiness - MPVs like the Volkswagen Touran continue to prevail.

Our quick take

The Volkswagen Touran is a sleeper car among a vehicle fleet of look-at-me crossovers. It wears its practicality on its sleeve and that creates a boxy-looking car, which - particularly when rendered in the brown of our test model - isn't what you'd describe as a looker. But you already knew that from our pictures.

Still, if you really need the space - for stuff and people - then the Touran does an admirable and impressive job. It never wows, as such, but just constantly supports your life and impresses with it ability to cope with almost anything you throw at it. The interior space, storage and seat design makes it a go-to model for anyone with three or more children.

Add that it's good value, a decent drive for this type of vehicle, highly refined and well built, and the Touran is a car that has truly surprised us with its blend of abilities. And with its range of engines and specs, there's a Touran to suit most budgets and most needs.

It might not be all the car you'll ever desire - but for a young or growing family crowd, it is arguably more than all the car you could ever need.

Volkswagen Touran - 4.0 / 5

If you need five or seven seats, want more than two isofix child seat fixing points and, frankly, aren't looking to spend oodles of cash on a car, then a mid-sized MPV such as this really is your best bet when buying new.

Handy, then, that Volkswagen has just refreshed the Touran as part of its on-going range renewal. Based on the underpinning of a Golf (the MQB platform), the Touran comes with seven seats as standard and starts from £22,270 in the UK. Is this the family "Wagen" to go for?

Volkswagen Touran review: Petrol heads

You can choose from two petrols and three diesel engine options in the Touran. You'll have read a lot about diesels recently - not least in regard to Volkswagen. The company's new-generation engines, fitted to the Touran in 1.6-litre (110hp) and 2.0-litre (150 or 190hp) are modern units which use ad-blue technology to reduce NOx emissions, and are highly efficient. But they cost more to buy and will still produce higher NOx and particulate levels than a petrol engine.

Given that many cars like this will be put to use on the school run, working at low speed and covering comparatively low mileages, we'd therefore reckon many buyers would do well to try a petrol engine. And with Volkswagen's new turbo petrols being some of the best, we chose to test the 1.2 TSi 110hp engine in this car. It's the lowliest powered Touran you can buy, and this isn't a small car - so we were interested to find out if a small capacity petrol unit felt right here.

Start up a modern direct-injection petrol like this, and beyond a slightly audible injector tick from the engine, one of its most pleasant attributes is quietness. The Touran's unit is a winner in this regard - it's refined, yet set out along the road and it's eager too. It revs happily, doesn't feel as slow as you might imagine and is generally a pleasant thing to drive.

The engine is aided by light yet precise controls and a nice, positive action gearshift - just as we've come to expect from the Volkswagen group. The ride is pliant and clam, helped by this model's small wheels, and the handling is tidy and neat. The Touran doesn't drive like a van, in fact it feels more car like than many crossovers.

The real surprise though is that it returned 47mpg during our test route. Whether you'd get those kind of figures just driving the Touran around town, we're unable to verify. But taken at face value, the smallest petrol version of the car is frugal enough to make you think twice about going diesel - which will cost you £1,600 more in list-price terms.

Just be careful if your driving involves a lot of high-speed, out of town work, or if you're regularly loaded up with a full cargo - because then you need to work the engine harder and it can occasionally feel lacking in power. But it never gets too noisy and harsh. It's just if we were using our Touran that way, we'd be swayed towards the diesel - or the more powerful 1.4 TSi petrol.

Volkswagen Touran review: People power

Where MPVs come into their own is inside. And here, Volkswagen truly raises the bar in the Touran. Everything feels incredibly high quality and works with a high level of precision. Perhaps most importantly, the Touran is stuffed full of clever storage spaces, compartments, nets and bins that make family life in the car just so much easier. Volkswagen says you can specify up to 47 of them in total.

The ones that we would "drawer" your attention to (sorry, couldn't resist) that came with our SE-spec car were the four bins/slots on the dashboard (two to the right side of the driver, one on top of the dash, one in front of the passenger) - plus the glovebox. The net on the passenger side footwell, huge (lined) door bins which can store 1.5-litre bottles in each front door, and an overhead drop down console which will store two pairs of sunglasses. In the back, we got airline-style fold up tables, another roof-mounted sunglasses holder and storage units for the third row passengers. Be warned, you'll lose stuff in your Touran. But at least it'll stay tidy.

Storage for things is one skill, but seating seven can be a headache. Yet here, too, the Touran seems to have things licked. Each chair feels chunky, sturdy and high quality. They're well trimmed with no odd sharp edges to catch unsuspecting hands, and high quality fabric. Parents will be interested to hear that every single rear seat (including the middle perch and the very rear-most third row seats) have isofix attachments. Middle row leg room is great for 6-foot adults. And the rear seats can cope with adults for a short journey. Kids and teenagers are likely to be happy for longer runs.

But the bug bear of this type of car has always been accessing that rear row of seats, and folding seats quickly to transport more load and less people. Handily, a new fold-flat system means that the rear-most seats fold flat into the floor with a single tug of a lever. When they do this, there are no odd gaps in the floor either, so the Touran should be easy to keep clean. The middle row all topple to fold flat too. And unlike many cars, the front passenger seat can be folded forwarded - meaning the Touran makes a great impromptu IKEA / DIY van.

There's other clever stuff too. The outer rear seats feature a simple pull-and-lift mechanism to allow reasonable access to the back row, and the rear parcel shelf stores below the boot floor when it's not being used. When this is in place, a simple tap gets it to retract half way back into the boot, creating easy access to stuff.

Many cars of this ilk get this stuff wrong - and having a young family ourselves, we appreciated the fact that the Touran has clearly been designed by a sympathetic, smart team that's clearly used to the trials of shepherding a herd of young people (and their paraphernalia) around.

If we're being picky, though, it's all terribly dull. There's no flash, and a lot of black and grey to go with this review car's brown exterior. Oh, and the boot lid is heavy to pull down, as it isn't powered (that's a £335 option).

Volkswagen Touran review: Technical spectacle

The Touran comes in five spec levels. Our SE-grade car is an obvious choice over the base S car, because it comes with alloy wheels, a USB port, lots more of the storage cubbies (and the folding front passenger seat), rear tinted glass and parking sensors.

Higher spec models - there's the SEL "luxury" and R-Line "performance" cars - get bigger wheels, more storage, nicer upholstery and bigger, better tech (CarPlay / Android Auto is standard from next-step up SEL grade). However, nothing that jumps out as a must have.

But our pick of the specs is SE Family which adds a sat nav system, VW's Car-Net "Guide and inform" online data system, a panoramic sunroof, rear door sunblinds and adaptive cruise control. There's even a system which amplifies the driver's voice around the car so those in the back can hear (it's £95 in the other models, included in the SE Family). It's a £1,485 jump from SE to SE Family.

Like most new cars, you can add (at cost) a raft of advanced driver support and safety systems like lane keep assist, high beam assist, a driver concentration alert system and park assist (which steers into parallel park bays for you and is a reasonably priced £190 option on all models about S spec).

All models allow Bluetooth streaming of music, have a DAB radio and come with a number of 12-volt sockets. What we'd like to see is a few more USB sockets dotted around the cabin, given how tech-focused modern families are.

Volkswagen Touran review: A van with windows

If only the exterior looked as good as the interior, eh?

Ultimately the Touran's exterior finish follows the same functionally-led approach as the car's inside, meaning it puts function over form. And all of that boxy interior space can't be magic-ed from nowhere, as reflected on the outside.

But we still wish the Touran didn't subscribe quite so closely to the "van-with-windows" formula of MPV design. Perhaps that's unfair - it does have some neat design details here and there.

But in silhouette, a Citroen Grand Picasso easily out-styles it, and Renault's forthcoming Scenic is about to set the cat amongst the pigeons in this class, with its crossover-like design, and standard 20-inch wheels laying on the style with a trowel.

A car that doesn’t wow you but impresses with its thoroughness of execution. Brilliantly thought out and spacious interior makes up for the boxy exterior design. Pleasant enough to drive, well built and equipped the Touran should be high on your family car shopping list.

I'd imagine that there is provision for a "Travel Mode" setting somewhere, but does the Golf R does this for you when the car reaches the continent?

Silly question perhaps, but some Superb 3 owners have found that their lights & ACC settings have been switched for them by the GPS

when they reach the other side of the channel.

Can you not just use some stick on deflectors? e.g.  http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B007T7SIRO/

You can change the lights in the CAR option on the display for LHD or RHD.

If you have to drive a right-hand drive vehicle in a left-hand drive country, or vice versa, the asymmetric dipped beam of headlights with gas discharge bulbs may dazzle oncoming traffic. Therefore the headlights need to be switched over when you travel to these countries.

On vehicles with dynamic main beam control, the headlight orientation can be adjusted using the m/b/v030MB m/b/v028MB m/b/v045MB button and the m/k/n728MK and Light function buttons in the Infotainment system → Menu and system settings (SETUP)   (travel mode).

Travel mode may only be used for a short period. Please contact a qualified workshop for a permanent alteration. Volkswagen recommends using a Volkswagen dealership for this purpose.

The function of the dynamic cornering light → Dynamic cornering light (AFS)   and dynamic main beam control → Dynamic main beam control(Dynamic Light Assist)   is deactivated once travel mode is activated. The main beam is then only switched on and off automatically.

Thanks for the info, if we do take the car abroad & it switches the lights, etc. by it-self, then I'll report back here.

Ought to work for R GmbH

They didn't automatically change on my 2014 R when I went to the ring last year.

You manually change them in the lights menu. Every time you get back into the car it warns you that you are in travel mode.

When returning home I had to change them back manually.

Dynamic lighting and corner lighting still worked.

I changed mine last year and, as the manual said, the cornering function definitely didn't work.

I also got fed up of the message so turned them back to normal.

No other drivers flashed me for dazzling them so I left it like that.

I'll be trying my 2016 R from Riems to Venice soon so I'll see if there are any differences between 2014 and 16 variants.

Volkswagen Touran review

vw_7422.jpg

What is it like to drive?

On the road, it’s good, predictably with welcome traces of Golf. It’s agile enough for its size and has decent steering, but it’ll sooner have you driving smoothly than especially swiftly. More importantly for its target market, the ride is fine over all but the most jarring potholes, and the body doesn’t heave and roll about like big MPVs of old, which bodes well for car-sick kids. There’s a bit of wind noise from the door mirrors, but you’re otherwise looking at a quiet, refined, fine-driving MPV.

5 Adults With Luggage in VW Touran Rental?

Starting a new thread as I have been reading car rental advice here - first trip to Ireland, renting a VW Touran (or "similar") for 5 adults to trek around for a week. Three passengers are gals and we tend to pack more than the guys do - looking at pictures of the "boot" space and find that we will have "743" liters of storage space - I found a diagram of measurements as well but not sure how to figure that out with the boot cover that can be used to cover up the luggage. Anyone rent a VW Touran (or "similar") lately?? Diagram I found (not even sure if its for the Irish version of the Touran) appears to me that its 1269 wide (but is that from window to window or base to base?) and 1139 from 2nd row of seats back to the hatch? I also do not know what year van they will have available or even if we will get a Touran. Rental car website shows 7 passengers and 3 luggage icons. Thanks for any advice!!

For reference/comparison, a Toyota Rav4 is 5 inches longer and the same width as a VW Touran---(overall exterior dimensions)

The luggage is the question. It would be very tight with five adults and five carry on size bags. Might tuck in the corners a couple of small shoulder bags. The other concern is "similar." The similar could be smaller but still hold five adults. If you have more than one carry on size bag each, you need something bigger or willing to have luggage on your lap. And the space is not completely square as wheel wells intrude into the storage area. Visit you local VW dealer.

I have very specific recent experience with our rental of a VW Touran in Spain; we were traveling the 2nd week of May. It was me and my parents; my mother and I had 22" pieces of luggage, and my father had a 25" bag. I also had a small duffle bag (size of a backpack) with some extra stuff, and my mom had a crossbody bag/purse.

When I travel with my husband, we rent one size smaller than the VW Touran, but I thought my 80yo father and 78yo mother would appreciate the extra room for themselves and luggage.

I obsessed about the vehicle size because I wanted something small enough to easily drive on the small roads in the countryside, but roomy enough for my parents.

We had more than enough room for our three bags and could close the hatchback with the cover over it, so our bags couldn't be seen from the outside. I'm not sure that a 4th bag could have fit in back, though it probably could have if all 4 bags were 22". In terms of driving, I would have rather had the smaller vehicle, but this size worked fine for driving. Also, if my parents had the ancillary gear that my grown children have, I'm not sure that would have all fit in the back with the cover over it.

I would definitely NOT want to try to fit five adults in a VW Touran, with or without their luggage.

thanks to all who replied - visiting a VW dealer is a great idea and I appreciate the input from lexma who actually rented a touran...Will see what we can do, leaving on the 10th of June!!

Watching Youtube videos about the boot space is very helpful, just wanted to pass that along to the next traveler trying to pack! Also found a drawing with measurements of the boot space on google images which is exactly what I needed. Just hope we actually get the Touran when we arrive!

please write a report when you return so we can learn how it worked out

Here is my rental car report - we got the "similar" instead of a Touran and they had to scramble to find us an automatic! (even though we reserved one) We rented a VW Caddy which may have been bigger than the Touran. We managed 4 suitcases (for 5 adults), 1 was size 28 (?), a 26x18 size suitcase and two 22 inch cases. Our 20 year old son sat in the 3rd row seat with the 2 small suitcases and the two larger ones went in the boot and we fit our assorted backpacks and carry ons where we could. He was a good sport about climbing out. My husband did the driving and the car rental agent just gave him the keys and off we went with no advice or direction! Used google maps on our phones to get around - a couple times we had calls come in and it knocked the bluetooth out of course when we were out on country roads and by the time we figured out how to get the bluetooth back on (as you just cannot hear the directions from the phone itself when driving, kind of an issue with the APP) we would be re-routed thru back country roads, the long way but we did get to see the beautiful countryside that way and some towns we would otherwise not have seen. Lost a hubcap somewhere too!!

Four of us (all women) rented a Touran a few years ago. We loved the car and had no problem with luggage space. Having said that, I think it will be a bit difficult with five adults on board. We did use the space between the two in the back seat for odds and ends. I don't imagine it will be very comfortable with three in the back seat and that 5th piece of luggage.......not sure how it will fit.

Op..... it is the job of 20 yr olds to crawl out of tight spaces ;) he probably liked having his own corner

Volkswagen Touran 1.5 TSI EVO R-Line 5dr Review

Volkswagen Touran

Get the best price with What Car?

The Volkswagen Touran is roomy, practical, very well built and good to drive. It's a bit more expensive than the Citroën C4 Grand Spacetourer, but worth the extra – especially when you factor in the huge discounts that are available. The 1.5 TSI 150 petrol provides good performance balanced with reasonable running costs.

The most expensive and least recommendable trim; you pay a lot of money over the SEL for mainly sportier looks and bigger 18in alloy wheels.

This 148bhp 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine is the pick of the range, offering plenty of performance for a lower price than the 2.0 TDI 150 diesel. It'll revs freely and hits 0-62mph in 8.9sec and officially returns over 40mpg.

VW Touran Problems

Are you familiar with the VW Touran problems?

Volkswagen Touran is a well-established model that has also been the subject of numerous complaints from owners regarding various issues. From diesel engine problems to electrical malfunctions and transmission issues, this article will examine the most common Volkswagen Touran problems.

The Volkswagen Touran is a compact MPV that has been in production since 2003. It offers practicality and versatility. The Touran has a range of engines to choose from, including diesel and petrol options, and is available with manual or automatic transmission.

The Touran has received high safety ratings from independent testing organizations. Touran also offers a range of technology features, including touchscreen infotainment systems, adaptive cruise control, and lane departure warning.

It has become a staple of Volkswagen models. Being a widely recognized vehicle, especially in the category of compact MPVs. Though there will be concerns to take care of, no matter the general reliability of the car.

Volkswagen Touran Problems

Volkswagen Touran is a long-running series of cars that has proven itself times and times again. However, with the numerous years and models present in Volkswagen Touran’s history, it stands to reason that the issues which can be found on this car are varied.

Certain models will have an easier time with it, others harder but all will face some issues. Among those, there are some particularly common problems.

Common Volkswagen Touran Problems

Volkswagen_Touran_Test_Vehicle.jpeg

Volkswagen Touran has had a long history. However, it has also been known to have some issues that could potentially impact its performance and reliability. Though there are plentiful issues, something expected considering the model’s age, these are the most common ones.

Some will occur early in the car’s lifespan and others are manufacturing errors that may need fixing. Regardless, it pays to keep an eye out for any of the following.

  • Loose Seat Belt

Seat belts are an important part of a car’s safety. Their incorporation into every car and effectiveness over the years are ample proof of this. The system itself is generally simple, with components merely needing to be attached to the car properly.

However, it’s still possible to run into issues due to manufacturing errors. Volkswagen Touran had one such situation with the 2018 recall. It was among many models that got a recall issued as the seat belts were improperly secured.

This lapse in production was called out by a consumer group Which, affecting about 75,000 cars in total. Though the recall happened far enough back that a lot of the cars can be assumed to have been fixed, it’s still a worry that can affect you with Volkswagen Touran. [ 1 ]

  • Engine issues

The engine is the car’s most important component. It allows the entire vehicle to function, providing energy to the components. Having problems with the engine can also be very troubling. Though these can be rather varied, just about any of them is cause for concern.

One of the most significant issues reported by Volkswagen Touran owners is engine problems. These problems can be caused by a variety of factors, including faulty fuel injectors, oil sludge buildup, and turbocharger failure. [ 2 ]

These issues can result in poor performance, reduced fuel efficiency, and even complete engine failure in some cases. In some instances, engine problems have led to costly repairs or even the replacement of the entire engine.

While Volkswagen has issued recalls and made improvements to some of the engines, some Touran owners continue to report engine problems. [ 3 ]

Regular maintenance and timely repairs can help prevent some of these issues, but potential buyers need to be aware of these problems and consider them when evaluating the reliability and safety of the Volkswagen Touran.

  • DSG gearbox issues

Volkswagen Touran is equipped with a DSG gearbox. DSG gearbox is a unique transmission system that differentiates itself from standard automatic systems. This is showcased by the fact that it has two independent gearboxes connected to the engine. This allows for a really smooth shifting of gears. [ 4 ]

This assumes a fully functional DSG gearbox, which is something you may not have on your Volkswagen Touran. The vehicle had recalls over damaged wiring in DSG gearboxes, which would lead to loss of drive.

However, this isn’t the only problem Volkswagen Touran had with its DSG gearbox. The transmission has been known to experience hesitation and juddering when shifting gears. This would nullify the advantages of the system, making it clunkier than the standard gearbox.

  • Suspension issues

Suspension issues are yet another problem Volkswagen Touran struggles with. There are a couple of key problems that crop up when Volkswagen Touran’s suspension is concerned.

The first being the rumbling noise from the front suspension. It can be an unsettling noise to hear but the potential ramifications that put this into the troublesome territory.

Suspension issues reported to have happened on Volkswagen Toucan models have also been known to cause tire wear and poor handling. Reducing the overall control over your car by a significant amount. The rumbling noise may just be a warning for these more serious troubles that will crop up later down the line. [ 5 ]

Said issues are sometimes associated with wear and tear of suspension parts. However, it’s just as likely that the problems will appear far too early in a car’s lifespan. Which is something to look out for.

  • Electrical Problems

Electrical problems can affect multiple aspects of a car. Due to that, they can often draw in quite a few issues, causing ample concerns. No matter the vehicle is an unwelcome list of problems.

Volkswagen Touran owners have also reported several electrical problems, which can be frustrating and potentially dangerous. Some of the most common electrical issues include problems with the battery, alternator, and starter motor, as well as issues with the central locking system, dashboard display, and various sensors.

These problems can cause a range of symptoms, including difficulty starting the vehicle, warning lights on the dashboard, and loss of power to various systems. In some cases, these issues can lead to complete system failure and the need for expensive repairs.

Fixing Volkswagen Touran Problems

If you’re experiencing technical problems with your Volkswagen Touran, there are a few steps you can take to address the issues. First, if your issue falls under one of the recall-worthy ones, free repair may still be available as recalls are generally unlimited in time.

Secondly, if the vehicle is still under warranty, you may be able to have the repairs covered by the manufacturer. Check your warranty documentation to see what repairs are covered and how long the warranty lasts.

Another option is to search for Volkswagen Touran repair guides and tutorials online. These resources can provide you with step-by-step instructions on how to fix common problems, such as replacing faulty sensors or repairing the transmission.

It’s important to keep up with regular maintenance on your Volkswagen Touran to prevent technical problems from occurring in the first place. This includes regular oil changes, tune-ups, and inspections of critical systems such as the suspension and brakes.

The Volkswagen Touran is a good SUV that will provide us with an ample mix of space and versatility. However, it won’t be without any issues that we could run into. Among these, the most common involve electrical and engine issues.

Decently dangerous ones aside from that involve loose seat belts, which can be a safety risk. Get your car checked as soon as possible. Having a throughout maintenance run on the car can preemptively resolve some of the problems before they become too troublesome for the car.

Unable to get out of park and into any gear

vw touran travel mode

  • Add to quote

Yesterday as I was attempting to leave the office, when I stepped on the break pedal to start the car a bunch of errors popped up (I know they have been mentioned before on here, but I have not been able to find the threads using the search so far). I remember reading about these from others, but from what I can tell they all occurred while driving so the car just kept driving and were able to make it to their destination without any real issues. But since I was still parked at the time, it would not let me take the car out of park and into reverse nor drive. I had to wait at the office for ~30 minutes to allow the car time to go back to sleep, then tried it again. This time it worked like normal without any indications of errors. This is a major issue that VW needs to look into. All the errors that came up just indicated problems with the assistance features (such as Travel Assist, Lane Keep Assist, etc) and should not have hindered my ability to still put the car in gear and drive home. Those features should not be a necessity to drive the car.

A lot of people have issues with a broken drive selector, your issue sounds the same. Afraid you’ll have to have the dealer fix it

My car had a hard failure like this and had to be towed to the dealer. It was diagnosed to have a broken shifter assembly, and it has been OK since that was replaced about 3 weeks ago. Screen photos and error code reported in posts #32 and #48 of this thread: Electrical Drive System Fault on Day 3 :-(

Had this happened to me once. Wouldn't shift out of park. Cycled column on/off button-nope, got out of FE, got back in-nope, depressed brake several times-yup. Hasn't happened since, figured it was operator error.

vw touran travel mode

It has happened to me twice, but each time it was when I got in and pressed the brake and twisted the shifter in the same second. After a step out of the car and the good bye sound it was fine, but until I got out it would not clear or do anything. I figure I am hitting the power-on and drive sequences so fast that some controller along the way is getting mad at me and not sharing with the others. Looking at my scans, there are a lot of communication errors and I figure that is just what it is.

vw touran travel mode

We are all going to have to come to grips with the fact we're basically driving a software driven computer. Personally I would be willing (being a computer guy) that the software VW has designated for this vehicle has errors in it's code. They may well have to do a major update that will encompass most systems being rewritten let alone the main drive systems. Guess we are indeed beta testers to some degree, but I have little doubt in the end (as in I hope by this years end) VW will have the code rewritten for most all of the major systems in the ID-4 and they won't have the glitches we've seen. When my lease is up in 4 years I would imagine the version of this vehicle will by then be perfected. LOL

vw touran travel mode

Software anomalies aside I'm still glad I got my FE. Manufacturers tend to 'value engineer' mechanicals/trim/etc. in out years to boost profitability that they lost in development and inaugural runs. As I've now oft said the vehicle, as a driving vehicle, exceeds my expectations. The software, in theory, may always be improved over time. Win-Win (given a positive perspective)

vw touran travel mode

Something similar happened to me after driving for awhile. It wouldn't go into reverse so I parked it, waited about 2 mins then tried it again and it was fine, Took it in for service the next day but they couldn't find a problem. Service manager said these cars are finicky and 99% of the time, "rebooting" solves the issue. Feels like I'm driving a computer with wheels and the operating system is Windows95.

vw touran travel mode

Just to add to the list, I experienced the "can't shift out of Park" fault today, for the first time. The only clue on the driver's binnacle was a small red exclamation point in a triangle, which the owner's manual unhelpfully calls a "priority 1 warning". I had read this thread but, in the frustration of the moment, I did not remember it. My wife, who has no interest in ID.4 issues, suggested I get out of the car. I turned it off, got out, waited a second, got back in and it shifted properly and restored my mobility.

Today I had a second occurrence of what the infotainment system calls a Travel Assist error. I was attempting to back into a parking space but couldn't engage reverse gear nor drive. I put it into park and stepped out of the car for a few seconds. When I "restarted" it was back to normal. I can't figure out why this periodic failure is being identified by the system as a "Travel Assist" error. I'm going to try disabling all the Travel Assist features tomorrow and see what happens.

I currently have the same issue with my ID 4. It has been at VW service for 2 days now, Had all the same warnings, My Service Center is working with techs at factory in Germany to resolve the issue, I have 1700 miles on my vehicle.

Maybe the issue is with not letting the car boot up properly. I did put it into gear and was rolling prior to the car being booted up all the way that is the screen was not booted up all the way,

vw touran travel mode

Could some of these "can shift out of park" issues be caused by the driver seat sensor? The car will not engage if it doesn't detect someone sitting in the driver seat. Getting out of the car and then sitting back resets that sensor? Might be a reason for those that are seeing this happening from parking. Specially if there is not a bunch of errors in the screen. Just speculating...

vw touran travel mode

My friend had this issue and the dealer replaced the 12 volt battery. It took several days to diagnose and 2 weeks to get the battery. He says the infotainment system now seems to be more responsive and less glitchy.

I've only had this happen once and it quickly reset. Of course it was the day I was showing off my new ID.4 to my son and family. A bit embarrassing. But's it's VW who should be embarrassed for releasing such "unpolished" software (a kind adjective). A marginal 12V battery can certainly be a root cause issue as many vehicles these days can't tolerate inconsistent power for their various computer/infotainment systems. I don't think in my case it was the battery as only one occurrence in now exactly 4 months of ownership. Just one of those glitches that annoy us all, and we hope gets resolved in the coming OTA update.

I hate the fact that I keep repeating myself but please call VW Customer Care and report these issues to them. 1-800-822-8987 I now know this number by heart.

vw touran travel mode

Presently in Maine from VT & my ID4 just BRICKED an hour ago. Same descriptions as earlier in this post. Cycling Error codes. "Customer Care" is towing it to the closest dealer in Saco ME to look at it Monday. Glad we brought 2 cars to ME this weekend.

Keep us posted on how the repairs go. Sorry to say I have had questionable results/experiences with that dealership, although others I have talked with think highly of them. They are under new ownership since I was last there, hopefully you will have a better experience than I did.

Thanks for the update

What is the ECM?

The ID4 is a PC with wheels. The ECM is like the Motherboard. & VW has none on this side of the pond. All are allocated to the factory atm...

WILL.I.AM said: Location: Phoenix, AZ Mileage : 720 Model: Blue Pro S ID4 I was thoroughly enjoying the car up until 3 weeks ago when I encountered the same issues as OP. There were a few errors that would pop up during driving but they typically cleared themselves during a reboot (Leaving the car & reentering later). The second to last time, the car featured a set of 3 errors, and would not allow me to switch gears into reverse, and essentially stayed in park. It was stuck in my garage for 3 days and I had planned on having it towed to the nearest service center. ERRORS View attachment 4530 View attachment 4531 View attachment 4534 View attachment 4535 In a last ditch effort to avoid having it towed, I sat in the car and played with shifter, turned the car on and off quickly until I was able to get it to reverse. The errors returned shortly after driving, so I drove it to the closest VW service center in Avondale, AZ. After 2 days, the service center diagnosed the issue as needing a new gear selector. That seems like an odd part to be throwing electrical, drive, and travel assist errors, but obviously I'm in no position to really question it. The VW Avondale service center told me they don't have any loaner cars despite suggesting it was possible when I dropped off my car. It has now been 2 weeks in the shop, and the shop has told me the gear selector switch part is on backorder and they don't even have an ETA at all. I asked if I could store the car at my house until the parts arrived, and they wouldn't give the car back due to liability reasons. I contacted VW Customer Care, and tried to see if there was anything they could do to expedite the part or at least provide me with an estimated time for the part delivery. The customer care rep forwarded my case # to a regional manager, who then forwarded my case back to a rep to tell me they don't know when the part is expected and they'd reach out to me again in 2 more weeks with an update. I told them that I need a car whether it be a loaner or rental, and they said they would reach back out to me in 2 days to see what they could do. I don't understand how the worlds largest carmaker doesn't have a supply chain already well established prior to launching a new car to provide basic parts like a gear selector switch. I don't understand how they don't even have an estimated time of arrival for any part considering I assume they are building new ID4's as I type. Am I out of line in my expectations that a major international car company should have the ability to fix a brand new car in 2 weeks or less, especially when it comes to replacing a single small defective component? I'm trying my best to keep my cool, but I never expected to be in a position where my car would be in the shop for possibly a month or longer for something as seemingly trivial as a gear switch selector replacement, and not provide me with a loaner or rental car. Maybe VW should be slowing production of their ID4 line until they have the parts availability to fix their existing cars across the world? The irony is that my brother bought a Tesla Model Y 3 months before my ID4 purchase, and the only issues he has had so far are some panel gap build issues. My biggest reason reason for choosing the ID4 over the Model Y? My stupid assumption that a VW would be fixed quicker than a Tesla in the event of a repair. I can't help but feel like VW is lying to me and there are more serious issues they are trying to hide and repair without the public noticing. Click to expand...

If you get those errors again Will please let us know. Mine is throwing those errors every single time I drive it. So far rebooting works but I can't put up with this for 3 years (lease). A gear selector switch doesn't seem a likely cause but if you can put together a few weeks of error free driving I'm willing to try it.

Start a case with Customer Care

These posts about not getting a loaner are worrying. I'm down to only my ID.4 Pro as GM bought back my 87K miles '17 Bolt (just in the nick of time before the latest battery fire recall came out about a week ago). I think the above posts on waiting a bit before putting ID4 in gear are right - otherwise, there seems to be an increased chance of getting an error message. But the message that upset me the most (and still does) was the one "Inspection Service overdue 10385 miles" that occurred not long after I took delivery. I have a photo of that on the Status screen "Total Distance" dropdown. Also have photo on the "Distance" dropdown (that I took at the same time) that says "977 mi" (which is what I understood to be the miles my car had been driven since production). How could the car come up with a figure like 10385 if it had only been driven 977 miles??? Port of Entry was Houston, delivery to me was in San Jose, Ca. When I first test drove car driver's binnacle said it had 6 miles on it which the salesman said was the odometer reading. Car has 4821 miles on it now with no repairs, except if software updates have been done on it by dealer that I'm not aware of. Oh, the maintenance reminder message cleared up after a few days.

Software bug, flipped bit in a Memory module, misbehaving module, possibilities are endless. Personally wouldn’t worry to much about it and just keep an eye on it if it happens again.if a module was really faulty, you’d expect more errors to appear.

My VW Service Center had my car for 9 days with the "Can't get out of Park issue." Finally discovered that the Sound Generator on the vehicle was bad and was causing miss communications in the system. They replaced the part and all is working. My Vehicle had only 1708 miles on it. Still love the vehicle. Had a 2021 Tiquan Loaner, no comparison to my ID4.

Brad said: My VW Service Center had my car for 9 days with the "Can't get out of Park issue." Most likely it threw so much crap on the canbus (the internal communication network between all modules) that some critical modules couldn’t communicate and the car errored out.

Next-Generation VW Tiguan Can Travel 62 Miles in Electric-Only Mode

Volkswagen released new information on the upcoming third-generation Tiguan SUV, including a plug-in-hybrid version with a 62-mile EV range.

2025 volkswagen tiguan

  • According to Volkswagen, a new plug-in hybrid version will be able to travel up to 62 miles on electric-only power.
  • The new Tiguan is scheduled to launch sometime in 2024, most likely as a 2025 model vehicle.

It's been six years since Volkswagen pulled the sheet on the second-generation Tiguan at the Detroit auto show. With only one recent styling refresh in 2022, it's high time we started hearing rumblings about a third generation. That's exactly what's happening, with VW gearing up for the reveal of its third-gen Tiguan SUV later this year.

We're expecting a full redesign, along with a bevy of updated technology features. According to Volkswagen, the new Tiguan will come standard with the same active suspension system that debuted on the current-generation GTI . The system controls the electronic differential locks and the lateral dynamic components of the shock absorbers to improve handling characteristics. In other words, the next Tiguan should be more comfortable as well as more capable.

next generation volkswagen tiguan

62-Mile EV Range

Along with the new suspension, VW promises an all-new plug-in-hybrid model that will be able to travel up to 62 miles on electric-only power. The manufacturer promises that AC charging rates will be improved for the new generation, and DC fast-charging will be possible as a standard feature.

The photos Volkswagen released all show heavily camouflaged versions of the car, but even so it is easy to spot the considerably softer body lines. It's likely that the photos show the Europe-only short-wheelbase model, while we are more likely to receive a long-wheelbase option in the U.S. Once in production, the new Tiguan will be built on the MQB Evo platform alongside the Mk 8 Golf and Mk 4 Audi A3.

The inside of the Tiguan is just as new as the outside. A big new optional 15-inch infotainment screen sits in landscape orientation on the center of the dash. In a move similar to VW's ID models, the gear selector moves to the steering column. A new Driving Experience Control dial takes its place in the center console and has its own multipurpose screen to adjust drive mode, radio volume, and ambient lighting colors.

Detailed specs haven't been released yet, but VW says the new Tiguan is about an inch longer than the outgoing model. According to Volkswagen, that brings about roughly one additional cubic foot of storage space behind the rear seats. More details concerning pricing and specifications will come out closer to the fall reveal of the car.

As things stand now, the new Tiguan is scheduled to be revealed in full next year and will most likely launch as a 2025 model car.

VW Touran limp mode

  • Add to quote

Hi my 2008 VW Touran 2.0TDI 140 Sport has recently started going into limp mode again. Going back 12 months my VW Touran started going into limp mode and an error came re over boost I got my turbo checked out and reconditioned as was informed that one of the valves was getting stuck. Fast forward 18 months the limp mode issue started occurring again I took it to several garages in the area who claim to have good problem solving skills relating to technical issues. They were several codes that kept popping up: Coolant temperature sensor 2 signal too low tested fault no fault wasn’t present Cam shaft sensor implosable checked via syloscope no fault. But just to be on safe side one garage checked all wiring on car and repaired wiring harness on throttle body which worked a treat and the issue stopped for 2/3 weeks now it’s popped up again. Now the new codes are the same as above plus radiator fan 2 jammed which wasn’t present previously. Can anybody help me or give me advice on how to resolve issue.

vw touran travel mode

The fan packs are prone to jamming, the coolant temp error could be the sensor on the lower radiator outlet or the thermostat stuck open and the cam position sensor can have a number of sub definitions such no signal or implausible signal but from memory non of those should cause limp mode, what are you using?

Please could you elaborate what do you mean by what are you using?

Diagnostic system, nothing dodgy or chemical…

Yes using diagnostic computer which is giving errors no chemicals been used. just to let you know I had it remapped 6 years ago via a computer would that be the culprit

Which diagnostic system, not all are created equally?

Sorry I’ve no idea mostly basic ones which one do you recommend

VCDS, registered with https://www.ross-tech.com

I’ve booked car for a diagnostic test using the Ross tech software once done I’ll reconnect with you

Hi these are faults on car

Attachments

Font Material property Technology Screenshot Software

That isn’t VCDS. Has it had a cam belt recently?

No recent cam belt change

Had a new radiator plus a new bolt as a bolt snapped off but issue was already present

The coolant fault could be the sensor or the thermostat and the valve timing needs checking

Volkswagen Touran

Happy Birthday, Touran! – More than a family car for 20 years

  • Touran upgraded with new driver assistance systems
  • The evolved TSI engine is also designed for fuels with renewable content
  • A model of success, the Touran has sold over 2.6 million worldwide

The Touran's success story continues: Volkswagen has upgraded the popular compact van and further improved its technology to the state of the art. The Touran celebrates its 20th birthday this year and continues to impress, thanks to a spacious and variable interior, efficient engines and agile handling. In addition to a wide range of standard safety systems, the optional IQ.DRIVE incl. IQ.LIGHT assist package now also includes the Travel Assist and the Dynamic Light Assist main-beam control.

"More than a family car" was the claim for the Touran market launch on 14 March 2003. The compact van is a multivariable family, leisure and business car with the best all-round characteristics. And, with more than 2.6 million units now sold, it is one of the most successful multi-purpose vehicles (MPV) in the world.

The second generation of the Touran was launched in 2015. It is VW's first van based on the Modular Transverse Matrix (MQB). This basis now enables the Touran to undergo extensive technical upgrading and model updating.

Numerous driver assistance systems on board

Standard features include Active Cruise Control (ACC) with speed limiter, Autonomous Emergency Braking Front Assist, Lane Assist lane departure warning and Side Assist lane change assist. This range of assistance and infotainment systems is usually only found in higher vehicle classes – thanks to MQB, they are also used in the Touran.

The standard equipment now includes, among other things, PreCrash at the rear. The system uses the sensor technology of the Side Assist lane change assist. Radar sensors detect the position and speed of cars behind the Touran. If PreCrash at the rear detects an imminent rear-end collision due to the position of the following vehicle and the excessive speed difference between the two vehicles, the proactive occupant protection system is activated – not only while driving, but also while stationary with the engine running or in start/stop mode.

A multifunction camera is also now on board every Touran to identify objects or people as quickly as possible. The camera is thus one of the most important components in the car when it comes to assist and safety systems .

In addition, the optional "IQ.DRIVE incl. IQ.LIGHT" package now includes, among other things, the Travel Assist 2 driver assist system in conjunction with the Lane Assist 2 lane departure warning. The system can assist in keeping the vehicle in lane, maintaining a distance from the vehicle in front and also ensuring that the vehicle keeps to a maximum speed set by the driver. Among other things, it uses the adaptive lane guidance system for this. This system actively keeps the vehicle in the middle of its lane. Travel Assist adapts itself to the driving style and can also keep the vehicle further left or right in the lane instead of exactly in the centre. In combination with the DSG dual-clutch gearbox, you can also stay relaxed when driving in traffic jams and stop-and-go traffic.

The Dynamic Light Assist main-beam control is also part of the new assist package and ensures better visibility at night. The system can detect oncoming vehicles as well as vehicles ahead and automatically fades out corresponding areas of the vehicle's main beam. When driving in built-up areas, the system also automatically switches from main beam to dipped beam. This is a convenient feature that helps to better illuminate the road and detect obstacles earlier.

Comfort also gets an upgrade

Volkswagen has not only upgraded the Touran in terms of assistance systems. The family van has also received an upgrade in terms of comfort: with a latest-generation steering wheel including contact detection, the freely programmable Basic instrument cluster (20.3 centimetres or 8 inches) and the air conditioner control console with touch controls at the front and rear (both optional). In addition, with optional functions such as Easy Open & Close (closing the trunk lid by foot movement) and Keyless Access (keyless locking and starting system), the Touran is also state-of-the-art in terms of user friendliness.

Even more efficient drives

Efficient drives are also available for the bestseller: among other things, Volkswagen has continued to develop its best-selling 1.5 TSI petrol engine and is now also using the latest generation in the Touran – the TSI evo2 with 110 kW / 150 PS . It enables consumption and CO 2 savings and is also designed for fuels with renewable content. Furthermore, the latest version features Active Cylinder Management ACTplus, an emission control module close to the engine and the modern TSI-Evo combustion process.

Volkswagen Touran

Maximum suitability for everyday use for up to seven people

The Touran impresses with a large and multivariable interior – with five to seven seats, depending on customer preference. The enormous interior width is particularly appealing to families, with enough space for three child seats fitted side by side in the rear. Thanks to ISOFIX retaining rings in the second and third row of seats, a total of as many as five child seats can be securely attached to the Touran. The interior can be used in a variety of ways thanks to the fold-flat seating system (flat surface in the luggage compartment with the seats folded down), which allows for a storage volume of up to 1,980 litres. In addition, the 47 storage options and the drawers under the front seats fulfil almost every storage desire.

In terms of steering and running gear, the Touran impresses with the handling of a Golf.It is agile, the steering is sensitive, the optional adaptive running gear (DCC) ensures a high level of driving comfort and the turning circle is only 11.6 metres.

The specified fuel consumption and emission data are determined in accordance with the measurement procedures prescribed by law. 1 January 2022, the WLTP test cycle completely replaced the NEDC test cycle and therefore no NEDC values are available for new type approved vehicles after that date.

This information does not refer to a single vehicle and is not part of the offer but is only intended for comparison between different types of vehicles. Additional equipment and accessories (additional components, tyre formats, etc.) can alter relevant vehicle parameters such as weight, rolling resistance and aerodynamics, affecting the vehicle's fuel consumption, power consumption, CO 2 emissions and driving performance values in addition to weather and traffic conditions and individual driving behavior.

Due to more realistic testing conditions, fuel consumption and CO 2 emissions measured according to WLTP will in many cases be higher than the values measured according to NEDC. As a result, the taxation of vehicles may change accordingly as of 1 September 2018. For further information on the differences between WLTP and NEDC, please visit www.volkswagen.de/wltp .

Further information on official fuel consumption data and official specific CO 2 emissions for new passenger cars can be found in the "Guide to fuel economy, CO 2 emissions and power consumption for new passenger car models", which is available free of charge from all sales dealerships and from DAT Deutsche Automobil Treuhand GmbH, Hellmuth-Hirth-Str. 1, D-73760 Ostfildern, Germany and at www.dat.de/co2 .
