Tim & The Glory Boys Announce 'Home-Town Hoedown Tour' Dates

The tour kicks off tonight, March 15.

Canadian band Tim & The Glory Boys are known for their feel good, high-spirited songs that cross generations and bind communities. Formed in 2013, the JUNO award-winning act were nominated for two Canadian Country Music Awards in 2021 for "Rising Star" and "Group of the Year".

Multi-award-winning lead singer Tim Neufeld, Colin Trask (dobro/percussionist), and Brenton Thorvaldson (banjo/guitar) are born entertainers who call their boot-stompin' anthems "bluegrass-meets-gospel-meets-Canadiana". The band is currently putting the finishing touches on their new full-length album which will be released by Sony Music Entertainment Canada, their debut album for the label.

Their latest single "Bloodlines" has been featured on Spotify's Next From Nashville, All About Country, Top Christian Contemporary, Top Christian and Gospel playlists, to name just a few, and now Tim & The Glory Boys are bringing their "Home-Town Hoedown Tour" to the US in March/April, performing in select cities. "Don't get me wrong, we love playing big city stages, but our hearts are with the small towns. What some folks call 'fly over country', we call 'Our Country and Our People'", says Neufeld. "We live to fire up the bus and tour through these beautiful and underappreciated communities off the beaten path. Doesn't matter if you catch us in a theater, a church, or an old barn, it's always an unforgettable boot stompin', banjo pickin' party - a 'Hoedown' if you will!"

"'Bloodlines' is a song about family, faith, and legacy. It's a song of hope for hard times", says Neufeld, and the poignant video was directed by David J. Redman. The band co-wrote the track with writer-producer Zach Kale (Gabby Barrett, Florida Georgia Line) and with its contemporary production and heartfelt lyrics, the song illustrates the importance of acknowledging and thanking the people in your life who stand by your side and support you through difficult times.

Tim & the Glory Boys last single "Me Without You" has garnered almost 7 Million combined streams and, along with the track "Without A Prayer," landed the group two straight top 10 singles on Canadian Country Radio.

The band has released two albums independently - 2016's "Hootenanny!", which won the JUNO Award for "Contemporary Christian and Gospel Album of the Year" in 2017, and "The Buffalo Roadshow", which was nominated for a JUNO in 2019 for "Contemporary Christian and Gospel Album of the Year".

As committed road warriors, Tim & The Glory Boys play between 100-200 concerts per year, including recently opening for singer-songwriter Tenille Townes on the Canadian leg of her "Girl Who Didn't Care Tour". There are lots of beautiful places that the band wants to go to spread their feel-good message. Don't be surprised if they get into some shenanigans along the way either. They are, after all, a band who have (amongst other things) turned riding buffalo into a lifestyle and tried to play hockey (in full gear) in a swimming pool. It's all documented throughout the band's always charming social media adventures. "We call it blue collar humor," says Neufeld. "We're just trying to relate and be real."

TICKETS Advance Tickets: $39.00 + HST VIP Tickets: $103.00 + HST Group of 4 (or more): $34.00 + HST Tickets at the Door: $54.00 + HST

The HOME-TOWN HOEDOWN Tour is THE exclusive bluegrass/country party your town has been waiting for! A spirited night of singin’, laughin’, and stompin’ yer boots. It’ll be the show you can’t stop talking about – the event of the fall! The tickets are gonna go fast folks! Get yours before they’re gone like a tumbleweed on the Saskatchewan plains.

It’s easy to get swept up in the feelgood, hand-raising joy of a Tim & The Glory Boys show. Or laugh along to their well-documented Letterkenny-like hoser escapades. What’s most important though is that the British Columbia-by-way-of-Manitoba boys are making music from—and for—the heart.

Formed in 2013, Tim & The Glory Boys’ Tim Neufeld (lead vocals, acoustic guitar), Colin Trask (dobro/percussionist) and Brenton Thorvaldson (banjo/guitar) call their boot-stompin’ sound “canoegrass,” a nod to both their bluegrass roots and the rustic country Canadiana the band have more recently begun exploring to great success.

This sound anchors the band’s new self-titled full-length debut album for Sony Music Entertainment Canada. The album includes an astounding five songs that have already hit Top 40 at Country Radio and have generated almost 30 million streams worldwide. “When You Know You Know” received Gold certification.

The two-time JUNO Award winners have also become mainstays at the Canadian Country Music Association Awards, having been nominated in 2021 for Group of the Year and Rising Star, and again in 2022 for Group of the Year.

Harry Styles’ U.K. Hometown Is Hiring Expert Fans to Serve as Local Tour Guides

Harry Styles Experts Wanted for Hometown Tour Guide Gig

Harries, this is not a drill — a dream job has come to Harry Styles ’ hometown of Holmes Chapel, England.

Holmes Chapel Partnership, a community-run organization, announced in a recent newsletter that job openings are available for fans interested in giving tours of the English village that the singer, 30, once called home.

“Even during the wet winter months, Harries have continued to visit, braving muddy banks and wet fields to pay homage at Harry’s Wall,” the organization’s chairman, Peter Whiers , wrote. “Local businesses have seized the opportunity to cater to these visitors, with references to Harry in various locations around the village. But it is time for us to elevate our offerings and ensure that visitors have a truly memorable experience in the village which we are proud to call our own.”

Dubbed Harry’s Home Village, the tour will be led by guides who are ideally 16 or older — though seniors are welcome to take part — and can “confidently lead a group with enthusiasm, whilst being organized, punctual and patient.”

Interested applicants are encouraged to apply online for the job, which promises flexible working hours and “competitive” compensation. “If you’re ready to combine your love for Harry Styles with a rewarding job as a tour guide in Holmes Chapel, apply now,” the posting reads.

Harry Styles Experts Wanted for Hometown Tour Guide Gig

Tours will officially begin in June. Popular landmarks for fans in Holmes Chapel include Mandeville’s, the bakery where Styles worked as a teen, and Twemlow Viaduct, the location of the singer’s first kiss. Fortune City Restaurant, the local dining spot where Styles took his now-ex Taylor Swift , is another well-trodden location.

Styles’ mom, Anne Twist , still lives in Holmes Chapel and told the Daily Mail in April 2023 that the As It Was singer is quick to “open the fridge” as soon as he returns home. Twist added, “We’re all close, it’s just geography. We all see each other when we can.”

Gemma shared two black-and-white photos with her little one. The first image featured Gemma and Mlynowski walking outside with the baby strapped to Mlynowski’s chest. The second photo showed Gemma cradling the newborn in her arms.

The couple have been together since 2015. Mlynowski was first introduced to fans when One Direction performed at the Apple Music Festival in September of that year.

“I’m sorry if I seem a little distracted, my sister’s on a date and I’m trying to keep an eye on it,” Harry quipped to the crowd at the time. “They’re up there somewhere. … So just please behave yourselves, it’s disgusting.”

Clarence Henry, New Orleans R&B Star Known as the Frogman, Dies at 87

A local hero in his hometown, he was best known for his hit “Ain’t Got No Home,” which showcased the vocal versatility that earned him his nickname.

Clarence Henry, a bearded man wearing a patterned, white short-sleeved shirt and a cap, stands at a microphone on what looks like an outdoor stage and raises his left hand to wave to the crowd.

By Jon Pareles

Clarence Henry, the New Orleans rhythm-and-blues mainstay who was known as Frogman — and best known for boasting in his durable 1956 hit, “Ain’t Got No Home,” that “I sing like a girl/ And I sing like a frog” — died on Sunday. He was 87.

The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, where Mr. Henry had been scheduled to perform this month, announced his death . The Times-Picayune/New Orleans Advocate reported that he died in New Orleans of complications following back surgery.

“Ain’t Got No Home,” which reached No. 30 on the Billboard Hot 100, became Mr. Henry’s signature hit and definitively captured his humor and his vocal high jinks. Written by Mr. Henry and released when he was a teenager, the song brought him his nickname and went on to become a perennial favorite on movie soundtracks, heard in “Forrest Gump,” “Diner,” “Casino” and other films. The Band opened “Moondog Matinee,” its 1973 album of rock ’n’ roll oldies, with “Ain’t Got No Home.”

The song was also used regularly in the 1990s by the right-wing radio host Rush Limbaugh, who played it while mocking homeless people. Mr. Henry was grateful for the royalties.

His next hit — and his biggest one — arrived in 1961, when “(I Don’t Know Why) But I Do,” a song written by Bobby Charles and arranged by Allen Toussaint, reached No. 4. Later that year Mr. Henry had a No. 12 hit with his version of the standard “You Always Hurt the One You Love.” In 1964, the Beatles chose him as one of their opening acts for 18 shows on their American tour.

But pop trends left New Orleans R&B behind, and Mr. Henry returned to being a local hero — performing constantly in the clubs on Bourbon Street and appearing regularly at the annual Jazz & Heritage Festival.

Clarence Henry Jr. was born on March 19, 1937, in New Orleans, and grew up there and in nearby Algiers. His father was a railroad porter and an amateur musician who played stringed instruments and harmonica. His mother, Ernestine, managed the home.

Mr. Henry admired the New Orleans piano masters Fats Domino and Professor Longhair. “When I was about 8 years old, Momma sent my sister Lizzie for piano lessons, and she didn’t like it,” he was quoted as saying in Anthony P. Musso’s book “Setting the Record Straight” (2007). “I asked Momma to send me, and I told her that I’d show her what the 50 cents could do.”

He played trombone in his high school band, and he and some classmates joined a band, the Toppers, that backed the singer Bobby Mitchell. (Mr. Henry sometimes sang lead as well.) He went on to work in the saxophonist Eddie Smith’s band.

During one all-night gig, wishing the audience would go home, the 18-year-old Mr. Henry happened on a piano riff and started singing, “Ain’t got no home, no place to roam.”

He worked those words into a song that flaunted both his falsetto and a croaking technique — singing while inhaling — that he had used in high school to tease girls , as well as an “ooh-ooh” refrain. Paul Gayten, an A&R man at Chess Records who would share some songwriting credits with Mr. Henry, brought him to Argo Records, a Chess subsidiary, to record his first single.

“Troubles, Troubles” — a jovial-sounding song about contemplating suicide — was the single’s A-side, but a New Orleans disc jockey, Poppa Stoppa, decided to feature “Ain’t Got No Home” instead. When he started getting requests for “the frog song,” he took to referring to Mr. Henry as “the Frogman.” Mr. Henry, looking for something like Fats Domino’s moniker, “the Fat Man,” happily adopted it.

In the early 1960s, when his “(I Don’t Know Why) But I Do” was a hit both in the United States and in Britain, Mr. Henry toured England, where he met the Beatles. Their 1964 American tour made him an eyewitness to Beatlemania — including a New Orleans show at which hundreds of fans, mostly girls, stormed the stage. But it was the end of an era for New Orleans R&B.

“After the Beatles tour I went back to playing on Bourbon Street, and suddenly everything was guitars,” Mr. Henry told Offbeat magazine in 2004. “The Beatles put a hurt on us. It lasted a few years but we got it back.”

Mr. Henry continued to record through the 1960s, for Parrot, Dial, Roulette and other labels. But he resisted trends in rock and clung to what, in an interview for John Broven’s book “Rhythm and Blues in New Orleans” (1978), he called “the old-time music.”

He performed constantly on Bourbon Street until 1981 and in 1982 toured England, where he found an appreciative audience, stayed for a year and recorded an album, “The Legendary Clarence ‘Frogman’ Henry,” that was released in 1983. In later years he performed less frequently, but over the years he appeared more than 40 times at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. He was inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame and received a Pioneer Award from the Rhythm & Blues Foundation .

Mr. Henry, who lived for many years in Algiers, was married and divorced seven times — he married one of his wives twice — and had 10 children and 19 grandchildren. Complete information on survivors was not immediately available.

“As long as my health allows me to, I’m going to keep performing because it’s what I truly enjoy,” Mr. Henry told the New Orleans music historian Jeff Hannusch for his book “The Soul of New Orleans” (2001). “People want to see the Frogman, but you know the Frogman wants to see the people, too.”

Jon Pareles has been The Times’s chief pop music critic since 1988. He studied music, played in rock, jazz and classical groups and was a college-radio disc jockey. He was previously an editor at Rolling Stone and the Village Voice. More about Jon Pareles

Harry Styles' Hometown 'Recruiting' Fans for Tour Guide Position

The singer's native village, Holmes Chapel in Cheshire, England, is looking for 'Harries' to take visitors on guided tours

Calling all Harry Styles fans – your dream job is waiting!

The singer’s hometown, Holmes Chapel in Cheshire, England, has launched a new job opportunity and is “recruiting Harry Styles fans” specifically.

In the village’s April newsletter , chairman Peter Whiers announced the Harry's Home Village Tour Guides initiative, which he described as an effort to “elevate our offerings and ensure that visitors have a truly memorable experience” visiting Styles’ hometown.

According to the job description , the village is seeking people with a “flair for storytelling” and a “genuine interest in Holmes Chapel with a good knowledge of its history, including Harry Styles and his roots here.”

The role is perfect for anyone looking to “combine [their] love of Harry Styles with a rewarding job as a tour guide,” and applications are open until April 15. The tours are set to start in June.

Nathan Stirk/2024 Getty

The guided walking tour is a step up from what Holmes Chapel had previously been offering — a Harry Styles Walking Map, which launched in 2023. More than 5,000 people visited the village to follow the map, Whiers wrote in the newsletter, leading to a “significant increase in footfall.”

Two of the most visited destinations in the village were Mandeville’s, the bakery where Styles worked before auditioning for The X Factor in 2010, and the Twemlow Viaduct, which is referred to as “Harry’s Wall.”

“Even during the wet winter months, Harries have continued to visit, braving muddy banks and wet fields to pay homage at Harry's Wall,” Whiers wrote in the newsletter. “Local businesses have seized the opportunity to cater to these visitors, with references to Harry in various locations around the village.”

The village, and the bakery in particular, were highlighted in One Direction 's tour movie, 2013's One Direction: This Is Us , which saw each of the boy band members bring cameras along for a behind-the-scenes look at their lives in their hometowns before their worldwide fame. In one particularly beloved clip from the documentary, Styles made a surprise visit to Mandeville's and some of the older women running the shop were over the moon to see him.

Catherine Ivill/Getty

While it's been quite a few years since the "As It Was" singer resided in his hometown, Styles has been seen out and about in London and its outskirts over the last few months, including with his girlfriend Taylor Russell .

In February, he debuted a new, shorter haircut as he attended a Premier League match between Manchester United and Luton Town at Kenilworth Road Stadium in Bedfordshire. It was the first time he'd been seen since he shocked fans — and the internet — with a buzz cut , which was on display as he attended a U2 concert at The Sphere in Las Vegas with his Bones and All actress girlfriend in November 2023.

More recently, the pair were seen together in New York City, and the singer looked particularly chic in a brown cashmere sweater from The Row while carrying the brand's viral Margaux bag , which retails for $4,390.

NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. (AP) — Nelly Korda is on a roll not seen on the LPGA Tour in 16 years.

She won four of the first seven holes, largely making the rest of the final Sunday in the T-Mobile Match Play a formality in beating Leona Maguire 4 and 3 at Shadow Creek.

Lorena Ochoa in 2008 was the last player to win four consecutive starts. Korda, the world’s top-ranked player, will try to tie the record of five — set by Nancy Lopez in 1978 and matched by Annika Sorenstam in 2004-05 — in two weeks at the season’s first major, The Chevron Championship outside Houston.

Because Korda took seven weeks off after winning in January in her hometown of Bradenton, Florida, this victory was her third straight in a scheduled event. Four players share the record of four in a row, with Mickey Wright doing it twice.

Korda also became the first American since Kathy Whitworth in 1969 to win four of her first five starts in a season.

“I can’t even wrap my head around it,” Korda said “Such a whirlwind of the last three weeks. I just feel like I was just in go-mode constantly.”

This was the first head-to-head match-play singles event between Korda and Maguire, but they have experience against each other in similar settings at the Solheim Cup. The Irish player is 3-1 while representing Europe in team match-play events against Korda.

Korda birdied Nos. 5-7 for a 4-up lead. She was 5 up after 12, saw Maguire take 13 and 14 with pars, and ended the match with a par win on the par-4 15th.

“It’s always nice to get a lead, kind of like a cushion,” Korda said. “But it’s Leona. She’s such a fiery competitor. I knew when I lost those two holes in a row, 13 and 14, that I really needed to put my foot down to finish the match off.”

Korda earned $300,000 for her 12th career victory.

“You know you’re going to have to make birdies if you want to beat her,” Maguire said. “Unfortunately, I didn’t make enough today. Hats off to her. She is an incredible player and she is playing some great golf right now. All I could do is play my own game, and that wasn’t good enough today.”

This tournament was entirely match play the first three years and played in late May when temperatures often are in the high 90s. Many of the top players opted not to compete.

The format changed this year to three days of stroke play, with the top eight advancing to match play on the weekend. The event also moved back to early April, when temperatures are much more moderate, which helped attract its strongest field.

It’s a field that Maguire dominated during stroke play, ending the first three rounds at 6-under par, three strokes better than anyone else.

“It almost felt like two separate tournaments this week, the stroke-play event and the match-play event,” Maguire said. “To lead the stroke play around this golf course by three at the end of the three days was something I can take a lot of positives from and be very proud of.”

Korda had to fight just to get into the match play. She shot 73 each of the first two rounds, but then came through with a 69 on Wednesday to advance to the weekend.

Then she didn’t let the opportunity go to waste at one of the more demanding courses on the tour.

“It’s absolutely breathtaking, such an amazing, amazing golf course,” Korda said. “It is brutal, though. It has tested every part of my game. I think golf courses like that are so much fun play. They’re so frustrating where you’re just like you walk off the hole and you’re just so frustrated there are a couple swear words going through your head.”
