Join us for an unforgettable Horseback Riding Tour in St Maarten that will show you the beauty of the island while with the incredible experience of riding horseback on these healthy well trained horses.  The location of riding area offers breathtaking views and a lovely beach with restaurant and bar if you’d like to extend your stay following the ride.

Once you are checked in our Professional trail guides will expertly match you with your horse.  Our small group rides ensure the best of care for you and your group or family as you explore beautiful winding trails leading you to a splendid lookout point on St Maarten over the Caribbean Sea. From here, you can see Saba and Statia (Sint Eustatius) and a perfect place for stunning photos of you and your horse.

During this breathtaking horseback ride, you will experience nature and your guide will tell you about the Island and identify some of the unique flora and fauna of St Maartin.

Your horseback ride then takes you back to the beach where you and your horse can walk along the waters edge or into the seas and cool off after your ride.  We have photographers on site most days to capture the dream photo of you and your loved ones on horseback in the Caribbean Sea.

Western saddles are used and instructions are provided for beginners with a guide always close at hand to ensure that everyone on the tour feels comfortable and secure.

The horses are very familiar with the trails, so even beginners can focus on the magnificence of the landscape around them without worrying about learning the ropes.

Following your ride you can choose to stay and have lunch as there is also a bar and restaurant offering delicious daily local food options and cold Heineken beer for local prices.  There is also a small animal petting zoo that you can visit onsite. Great for children and animal lovers alike.

For on island guests and passengers from cruise ships with later departure times we also offer a Sunset Ride that includes a campfire, champagne and marshmallow roast following your ride. Perfect for romantic moments or special occasions including birthdays and proposals. We love to be a part of your special celebrations so please let us know in advance to make the most of your special day. Horseback Riding: Scenic Trail & Sea Ride

Saddle up! Experience a unique opportunity exploring scenic coastal trails on horseback, then riding your mount right into the Caribbean Sea.

After boarding your transportation at the pier and take a short drive to the stable’s staging area where you will be welcomed by our hostess and receive information about the park, it’s facilities and the tour. After a short instructional briefing, you will be taken up to the stables to meet your guide. A horse will be assigned to you by your guide.

The Spanish first introduced horses to the island and today the predominant breed is a mixture of Paso Fino and thoroughbred. These animals are sturdy, with a good-natured temperament and a steady gait. Familiar with the designated route, these horses will immediately put you at ease.

Begin your ride on a rocky coastal trail, the entrance to a protected nature area. Once a cattle farm, it is now a reserve with natural foliage and a variety of cacti. Enjoy the beautiful blue backdrop view of the Caribbean Sea.

The vistas are marvelous and on clear days you can spot the neighboring islands; St.Barths, Saba and St. Eustatius. When you reach the end of the trail, ride your horse right into the waters of the Caribbean Sea. The horses love a refreshing dip in the sea and you will love the thrill of the experience.

Continue your ride for a short distance and return to the starting point.

For mounting and dismounting your horse, a mounting block is used and you receive assistance from the staff. After the ride, there is a chance to change your clothes before re-boarding the bus.

Board your transportation for a drive back to the pier.

• Please wear long pants and closed toes shoes or watershoes,. All clothing should be allowed to get wet in the sea-part of the tour.
• No pregnant women, or guests with back, neck, heart problems, or other injuries and mobility issues.
• On the spot facilities include: bathrooms, shower, changing booth, lockers, beach bar and shaded beach hut.
• No bags or bookbags can be taken on the ride.
• Minimum age: 8 years old, children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Join us on our popular sunset horseback riding tour and discover Sint Maarten’s beautiful nature with our experienced guides! Ride a horse at the Seaside Nature Park up beautiful winding trails to a splendid lookout point overlooking the Caribbean Sea. Our stable is located in Cay Bay, 5 minutes away from Simpson Bay and 15 minutes away from the cruise ship terminal. Upon arrival to our farm, we will give you a short safety briefing, gear you up and introduce you to your horse.

The horses are born and bred at Seaside Nature Park, we know them right from the moment they are born. Starting the stables many years ago, Roderick is well known for his eye for horses. He calls his line of horses “Antillianos”, a local horse, mixed from the Spanish, the South-American Paso and English thoroughbred influences that came to the island later. These horses are happy horses and they love what they are doing. If not working, all the horses roam the park freely at daytime.

No prior riding experience is required. Ride your horse behind the guide in a small group, over the winding trails. Enjoy the view of the neighboring Caribbean islands like St. Barts and Saba, while your horse follows the trails along the rocky coastline. The guides will tell you about the flora and fauna, as well as the island’s rich history. Photo stops will be made.

Next, you and your horse will go into the sea. You’ll get a chance to take off your shoes, or better, wear water shoes. The saddles will stay on. Remember, what you wear should be allowed to get wet. This is another great photo opportunity! After your ride in the sea, it is only a few minutes ride back to the stables. You’ll have an opportunity to change your clothes and enjoy a refreshment in the shaded beach bar area, after your ride. Guests are encouraged to bring cash or credit card to purchase optional extras, such as souvenirs, food and drinks, photo materials and treats for the different animals in the park.

Marvel at St. Maarten's natural beauty from atop a well trained horse (riders of all levels are welcome). Board your transportation for a short drive to the stable's staging area where you'll be welcomed by your guide, given a safety briefing, and issued your mandatory safety helmets. Then, you'll climb onto your hose and ride along a rocky trail of a protected nature area dotted with a variety of cacti. While you ride, you'll be able to take in all the beautiful flora and fauna, as your horses are experienced on the path, allowing you to relax and enjoy the view. When you reach Cay Bay you'll ride along the beach and even take your horse right into the water! They love a refreshing dip in the sea and you will thrill to the experience. Continue your ride for a short distance and return to the starting point.

Horseback Riding in St. Maarten

The horses are a type of Antillianos breed, not the official name, but the roots of these horses may be traced back to the Spanish conquistadors. The horses are a cross between a Paso Fino and Thoroughbred . They are strong and sturdy, with good hooves for the rocky island trails and warm, tropical climate.

Cruise Line Shore Excursion

I was on a three hour shore excursion that I booked through Royal Caribbean International while sailing on board Oasis of the Seas. Lucky Stables also works with Regent Luxury Cruises, Princess Cruises, Celebrity Cruises and Carnival Cruise Line as of this writing. Additionally, the stable is open to the public for horseback riding and offers a sunset champagne ride that sounded fun, but didn’t work with the cruise ship time frame.

“I used to own a horse, so whenever I get a chance, I like to ride,” said Nadia Howe of Tennessee. Jovanka Radovic from Montenegro added, “this is my first cruise and the shore excursion said horseback riding through the water. That’s what caught my attention.” While Dora Williamson of Post Falls, Idaho was enjoying some mother/daughter bonding time. “This is my first time horseback riding and I’m with my daughter,” she added with a smile.

I was pleased to see a shade shelter for the horses upon my arrival as it does get hot on this Caribbean island. My insider tip, book the early morning ride if you are on a cruise ship shore excursion. The rides are typically one or two hours long and include a 10 minute dip in the sea. You will get wet, as the water goes up to the top of the saddle, but you will NOT be swimming with horses. I emphasize this note because some people might be expecting to swim with horses. Putting swimming horses and inexperienced riders in the water would not be a good idea. It is too dangerous. Lucky Stables and any of the cruise lines connected with the stables are concerned with the rider’s safety.

Lucky Stables is top choice among both visitors to St Maarten as well as cruise ship guests who want a short form of eco-friendly activity and local residents of the island. The facilities of Lucky Stables St. Maarten include a cozy tack room, an outside rack and an outside Olympic size 20 by 60 meter dressage riding ring.

Part of our program at the stables are the horseback riding lessons. Our international team of experienced instructors offer a weekly schedule with a wide variety in lessons and activities. We have lessons available for the very beginner but also for an experienced dressage rider.
