Ayodhya, the ancient city, is believed to be the birthplace of Lord Ram and setting of the Hindu epic Ramayana. Bharat wasn’t present in the kingdom when Lord Rama was exiled and when Bharat returned, he was informed that he is the new king of Kosala kingdom. Greatly hurt by the news, Bharat travelled to Chitrakut to convince Lord Ram to return to the kingdom and rule.

Despite Bharat’s multiple requests, Lord Ram refused to return to the kingdom. Then Bharat asked Lord Ram to give him his wooden sandals and told that he would worship Lord Ram’s sandals and rule the kingdom on his behalf but he wouldn’t live the luxury of the king. It was in Nandigram that the Bharat lived for the next 14 years and worshipped the sandals of Lord Ram. Upon Lord Ram’s return from exile, Bharat welcomed him to the kingdom where Lord Ram was crowned as king. There is a temple in Nandigram which reflects the devotion of Bharat and his love for Lord Ram.

A beautiful city in Nepal, close to the Indian border, Janakpur is believed to be the birthplace of Sita and the place where Sita got married to Lord Ram. Janakpur was the capital city of King Janak’s kingdom. The city is famous for the Janaki temple which is believed to be more than 500 years old and is a major Hindu pilgrimage destination. The city is a perfect example of the blend of Indian and Nepalese culture. The city was the capital of the Mithila Kingdom. The city exhibits ancient artistic traditions associated with Mother Sita and Lord Ram and plenty such spots can be observed throughout the city.

Hampi is a major tourist attraction in South India. A UNESCO World Heritage site, Hampi exhibits numerous Hindu temples. The capital of the Vijayanagar Empire, Hampi was a town of glory in its prime. Indian Railway Unveils Shri Ramayana Express: Covering All the Important Pilgrimage Sites Dedicated to Lord Rama

In an another great attempt by the Indian government to embrace spirituality and make religious destinations easily accessible at budget-friendly rates, Indian Railways unveiled the Shri Ramayana Express on November 14 th . The aim of this sacred tour is to take the passengers across all the iconic places associated with the life and times of Lord Ram in the form of an all-inclusive travel package which lasts for 16 days. This circuit is an attempt to take you on a journey on a path that was led by Lord Ram himself. The passengers will be able to retrace the steps of Lord Ram and experience an unparalleled feeling of spirituality. The Shri Ramayana tour offers you the opportunity to choose from two different packages, one package will cover all the important places in India while the other one will be covering all the places in Sri Lanka as well. This holy and extremely pious initiative was taken up by the Indian railway minister Piyush Goyal who was not only present during the unveiling ceremony of the train but he had also congratulated the passengers on their maiden voyage. The journey will commence from Jaipur before reaching the Safdarjung railway station at New Delhi. This 800 seater express train will also come with an IRCTC service tour manager who will be there for the convenience of the passengers.

Lord Ram, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, is an iconic hero and a vital part of the Hindu mythology. It was he who with the help of Laxman and an army of other beings had rescued his wife Sita from the evil clutches of Ravan who was residing in the island nation of Sri Lanka. He is worshipped across the entire Indian sub-continent and has a strict set of followers. Lord Ram has many temples in his name that marks some relevance or the other during his life and times.

• Ayodhya (1 st stop) – Believed to be the birthplace of Lord Ram and a prime tourist destination among devout Hindus, Ayodhya has always been one of the prime religious destinations of India. Being closely associated with Lord Ram the city holds a huge amount of holy temples dedicated to the Lord. This legendary city sits majestically on the banks of the holy river Sarayu and it has also been visited by important historical religious figure like Gautama Buddha and Mahavira. This place is also a crucial part of the Saptapuri pilgrimage circuit. Ayodhya is held in an extremely high regard by people from different faiths like – Jains, Buddhists, Greeks as well as Chinese. The entire landscape is dotted with numerous places of worship and important sites like Ram Janmabhoomi, Hanuman Garhi and Hari Darshan Bhajan Mandal among others.
• Nandigram (2 nd stop) – Located at a distance of just 14 kms from the holy city of Ayodhya this holy city is where Bharat, Ram’s second brother was living during Lord Ram’s exile. When Ram was sent off for his exile with his brother Laxman and wife Sita, Bharat was not present then. Once Bharat returned back he was informed that he is the new king of Kosala kingdom. Having immense amount of love and respect for his older brother Ram, Bharat was greatly disappointed having heard this. Bharat then decided to travel to Chitrakoot with an aim of convincing lord Ram to come back and rule his kingdom as the rightful heir. However his attempts to convince ram were failed as he refused to return back. Seeing that his decision is final Bharat decided to ask Lord Ram for his wooden sandals which he would worship and rule the kingdom on his behalf, he would also give up on his luxurious life as a king. Nandigram was the place where Bharat had ruled his kingdom and worshipped the wooden sandals of Lord ram for 14 years. There is also temple present here which showcases the deep devotion and respect that Bharat had for Lord Ram.
• Sitamarhi (3 rd stop) – Located in the Mithila region of Bihar Sitamarhi is a popular Hindu pilgrimage destination since it is known for being the birthplace of Sita, an important character in the epic Hindu of Ramayana and wife of Lord Ram. She is also believed to be the incarnation of goddess Laxmi, this place has garnered immense importance and relevance among the Hindu population. There are a number of temples dedicated to the life and times of Sita. Along with Sitamarhi the nearby towns and villages are also filled with places of importance to the epic Ramayana. These holy sites, shrines and temples relives and recounts all the events and incidents that had taken place in Sita’s life among which the most important temple is Janki Mandir that is built close to the birthplace of Sita. This temple also holds a holy Janki Kund which is believed to have been created by Sita’s father king Janak.
• Janakpur (4 th stop) – Situated in close proximity to the Indian Nepal border Janakpur is also believed to be the birthplace of Sita along with being the place of marriage for Sita and Lord Ram. Janakpur had served as the capital city for King Janak’s kingdom. The city is home to the popular and extremely religious Janaki temple that is believed to date back to 500 years old making it one of the major pilgrimage destinations among devout Hindus. The city represents a beautiful blend of impeccable Indian and Nepalese culture and it was also the capital of the kingdom of Mithila. There are also numerous ancient traditions that are deeply associated with Lord Ram and Sita. The entire city is adorned with wall murals, paintings and places of worship dedicated to these holy deities and these places are unmistakable and cannot be ignored. Every street and alley way has one or two temples dedicated to the Hindu gods and goddesses and lined with numerous other holy shrines of worship. After Ayodhya another important temple is Janaki temple which is the largest temple that is dedicated to Sita.
• Varanasi (5 th stop) – It is a well-known fact that Varanasi is an important destination for pilgrimage among devout Hindus who flock here from all over the country to offer their prayers. This is one of the oldest living cities in the world and is replete with innumerable temples, shrines and places of worship. Popularly known as Kashi this place is also crucial for Jains as well. • Shringverpur (7 th stop) – This is an extremely picturesque holy destination located in Uttar Pradesh. This is believed to be the town where Sita and Laxman had crossed the holy river Ganga on their way towards the exile. • Allahabad (8 th stop) – This is one of the oldest, ancient and one of the holiest cities in India. The entire city is drenched in unmistakable culture, history, religion and spirituality. Situated on the confluence of three holy rivers of Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati Allahabad has always been a vital pilgrimage centre. Allahabad has found its mention in the holy Ramayana where Lord Ram, Laxman and Sita had spent a few days before heading onwards to Chitrakoot.
• Chitrakoot (9 th stop) – Situated right on the border of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh this holy destination is the place where Bharat had followed Ram and had tried to persuade him to come back to the kingdom. This is also the place where Ram was informed about his father’s death and had also performed the final rites for his father, King Dasharatha in the presence of all gods and goddesses. • Nasik (10 th ) – Previously known as Panchvati, Nasik is believe to be the place where, during his exile Lord Ram is said to have moved to from Chitrakoot. Sitting on the banks of the holy river Godavari this Hindu pilgrimage destination is home to a number of temples that are dedicated to Lord Ram. Apart from Ram, this place is home to the only Laxman temple in the world along with a cave that was named after Sita. A holy shrine is also believed to be the place where Ram and Sita are believed to have prayed to Lord Shiva. The entire town is dotted with traces of Ramayana and cannot be missed out on.
• Hampi (11 th stop) – This UNESCO world heritage site which is located in the southern state of Karnataka, holds a high reverence among Hindus. Hampi has found a special mention in the holy Ramayana and is believed to be the town where Lord Ram and Lakshman had met Lord Hanuman during his search for his wife Sita. Hampi is popular for its grand architectural representations of temples and structures which date back to the Vijaynagar Empire. Located across the river in Anjaneya hills it is believed to be the place where Anjana had given birth to Lord Hanuman.

IRCTC has initiated a special tourist train for travellers along with the Government of India known as 'Dekho Apna Desh'.This programme is to promote domestic tourism in India. The price for the second AC is Rs 82,950 and for the first AC, it is Rs 1,02, 095. The package covers the train journey, accommodation in AC hotels with veg meals including sight-seeing with AC vehicles, along with travel insurance and services of IRCTC Tour managers and many more. It also provides healthy and safe travel during post-Covid-19 situations. The entire trip is around 750990 Kms.

Here is information related to the trip fares, schedule, and stoppages of the Shri Ramayana Yatra Express:

First halt:- Ayodhaya to stop by Shri Ram Janmbhumi temple, Hanuman Temple, and Bharat Mandir at Nandigram.

Second halt:- Sitamarhi in Bihar to visit Sita Maa's birthplace along with Ram-Janki Temple in Janakpuri.

Third halt:- Varanasi to visit temples at Varanasi, Prayag, Shringverpur, and Chitrakoot by road travel. This will provide a night's stay in Varanasi, Prayag, and Chitrakoot.

Fourth halt:- Nasik- Trayambakeshwar temple and Panchvati.

IRCTC Ramayana Express tour package: Date, price, booking and more

The 15 days/14 nights ramayana express tour will cover ayodhya, sitamarhi, janakpur, varanasi, prayagraj, chitrakoot, nasik, hampi, rameshwaram and madurai..

New Delhi: Indian Railways' e-ticketing, catering and tourism arm IRCTC has reintroduced Ramayana Express Circuit tours. Note that IRCTC's Bhopal Regional Office offers “Bharat Darshan” one of the most affordable all-inclusive tour packages, covering the important religious and leisure destinations by the Bharat Darshan special tourist train. 

The 15 days/14 nights Ramayana Express tour will cover Ayodhya, Sitamarhi, Janakpur, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Chitrakoot, Nasik, Hampi, Rameshwaram and Madurai. The tour will start on November 18, 2019.  The package costs Rs 17,325 (3 AC class) per person and Rs 14,175 (Sleeper class) per person, which is inclusive of providing travel by train in 3AC class/2nd Class Sleeper coach. 

Besides this, the cost includes hall accommodation at places of night stay/morning freshening up, pure vegetarian meals, tourist buses for visiting sightseeing spots, tour escorts for announcements and information, security arrangements for each coach (without arms) and an IRCTC official on the train as Train Superintendent.

Terms and conditions:

1. Being a cost value package, personalized service is not viable.

2. Medical fitness: Senior citizens above 69 years must carry a medical declaration of “FIT TO TRAVEL” from an authorized medical doctor. 

3. While travelling, there might be some delay in providing food, so old people & diabetic passengers may carry some refreshments.

4. There may be changes in sightseeing that may be caused due to situations which may arise & the same has to be adhered to.

5. You should carry an identity card (Aadhar Card, Voter Card, Driving License, Pan Card, Passport or any Govt. Identity Card) and one recent passport-size coloured photograph while travelling; this is for verification when needed.

6. In case of any problem arising due to some natural calamity or abnormal situation, alternate arrangements will be made for which extra cost is to be borne by the tourists.

7. The passengers will have to bear all medical expenses incurred on them, if the need arises.

8. Please carry your own bedding, regular medicines, doctor’s prescriptions & contact number, torch, umbrella, lock & chain for securing luggage, nylon rope for drying clothes, and water bottle to stock drinking water.

IRCTC to start Shri Ramayana Yatra train tours from today. Check fare, schedule and other details

Irctc's shri ramayana yatra express will cover ayodhya, sitamarhi, janakpur, varanasi, prayagraj and chitrakoot, nasik, hampi and rameswaram, kanchipuran.

 The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation( IRCTC ) has planned a series of Shri Ramayana Yatra Tours in a bid o promote religious tourism,which will mark a gradual resumption of domestic tourism by trains in view of the improved COVID-19 situation.

One such tour will begin from today,IRCTC said on Saturday. The first tour, starting from Delhi Safdarjung Railway Station on November 7 will cover the visit of all prominent places associated with the life of Lord Rama.

Other packages include 12 nights / 13 days Shri Ramayana Yatra Express-Madurai, which will depart on November 16.

The statement said that there is also the 16 nights / 17 days package of the Shri Ramayana Yatra Express-Sri Ganganagar and the train will depart on November 25.

Schedule and stoppages of the Shri Ramayana Yatra Express:

First halt of this train will be Ayodhya where tourist will visit Shri Ram Janmbhumi temple and Hanuman temple and additionally Bharat Mandir at Nandigram. The next destination will be Sitamarhi in Bihar and visit Sita Ji's birthplace and Ram-Janki Temple in Janakpur, covered by road, the note added.

Following this, the train will move to Varanasi, and tourists will visit temples at Varanasi, Prayag, Shringverpur and Chitrakoot by road. Night stay will be provided at Varanasi, Prayag and Chitrakoot.

The statement said that the halt of the train will be Nasik wherein the Visit of Trayambakeshwar temple and Panchvati will be covered. After Nasik, the next destination will be Hampi which is the ancient Krishkindha city.

Rameshwaram will be the last destination of this train tour after which the train will return to Delhi on the 17th day of its Journey. Guests will be travelling roughly 7500 Kms in this entire tour.

IRCTC has launched this special tourist train in line with the Government of India initiative "Dekho Apna Desh" to promote domestic tourism, at a price of ₹ 82,950 per person for 2AC and ₹ 1,02,095 for 1AC class, the note informed.

"Package Price covers Train Journey in AC classes, Accommodation in AC Hotels, all meals (VEG ONLY), all transfer and sight-seeing in AC Vehicles, travel insurance and services of IRCTC Tour Managers etc. All necessary health precautions measures will be taken care of by providing safe and healthy travel during the tour," it added.

Railways to re-launch two special trains on Ramayana circuit

The Indian Railways will be re-introducing two special tourist trains to cover places associated with Lord Rama, also known as the ‘Ramayana Circuit of India’, later this year in November.

Last year, the Indian Railways ran four special tourist trains on the Ramayana Circuit. The train operated from Delhi on December 14, 2018.

The two trains — Ramayana Yatra and Ramayana Express — scheduled to run in November will be operated by Indian Railways PSU namely Indian Railway Catering & Tourism Corporation Ltd ( IRCTC ). These packages are part of Bharat Darshan scheme of the IRCTC.

The ‘Ramayana Yatra’ will be running from Jaipur in Rajasthan to Delhi on November 3. The train will provide options to people visiting places associated with Ramayana in Sri Lanka for a limited number of seats. From Jaipur, it will be boarding and deboarding at several railway stations including, Always, Rewari, Delhi’s Safdarjung, Ghaziabad, Moradabad, Bareilly and Lucknow .

Meanwhile, the Ramayana Express will depart from Indore in Madhya Pradesh and reach Varanasi. The train will depart on November 18 from Indore, boarding and deboarding at stations including, Dewas, Ujjain, Maksi, Shujalpur, Sehore, Bairagarh ( Bhopal ), Vidisha, Ganj Basoda, Bina, Lalitpur and Jhansi.

The tour, starting November 3, will be a 17-day tour and the journey will cover Ram Janmbhoomi and Hanuman Garhi at Ayodhya, Bharat Mandir at Nandigram, Sita Mata Mandir at Sitamarhi (Bihar), and Janakpur (Nepal), Tulsi Manas Mandir and Sankat Mochan Mandir at Varanasi, Sita Samahit Sthal at Sitamarhi (UP), Triveni Sangam , Hanuman Mandir and Bharadwaj Ashram at Prayag, Shringi Rishi Mandir at Shringverpur, Ramghat and Sati Anusuiya Mandir at Chitrakoot, Panchvati at Nasik, Anjanadri Hill and Hanuman Janm Sthal at Hampi and Jyotirlinga Shiva Mandir at Rameshwaram.

Another train is expected to be re-launched from Madurai in Tamil Nadu in the coming months.

A special tourist train, Shri Ramayana Express, was flagged off on Wednesday from Delhi. The train will cover important destinations associated with the life of Lord Ram in a 16-day tour package spread over India and Sri Lanka.

The all-inclusive tour package will cover all meals, accommodation and wash and change facilities in dharamshalas, all transfers and sightseeing arrangements. A dedicated tour manager of IRCTC will be travelling with the tourists during the entire tour.

The pilgrimage circuit will have two travel components — one each in India and Sri Lanka.

Stations on Ramayana Express train route 

After leaving Delhi, the train will make its first stop in Ayodhya followed by Hanuman Garhi Ramkot and Kanak Bhawan temple. The train will then cover important destinations of Ramayana circuit such as Nandigram, Sitamarhi, Janakpur, Varanasi, Prayag, Shringverpur, Chitrakoot, Nasik, Hampi and Rameshwaram.

The Ramayana Express train will have an overall capacity to seat 800 passengers.

Ramayana Express ticket price

India leg of the journey is priced at Rs 15,120 per person. Passengers opting for the Sri Lanka leg of the Ramayana Yatra package will be charged separately. The package will cover all meals, accommodation and wash and change facilities in  dharmashalas , all transfers and sight-seeing arrangements.

Sri Lanka leg of Ramayana Yatra package

The Sri Lanka leg will cost an additional Rs 36,970 per person. Passengers will need to take a flight to Colombo from Chennai. The tour package will cover destinations like Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Colombo and Negombo. IRCTC already conducts a Shri Ramayana Yatra-Sri Lanka 5-night-6-day all-inclusive package, which covers visit to renowned Ashok Vatika (Hakkagala Botanical Garden) and temples of the ancient time, including Munneshwari, Munnawaram, Hanuman Temple.

Shri Ramayana Express tours to be launched again! IRCTC is all set to re-launch two Ramayana Circuit tour packages this year. Following the successful runs of four tour packages of special tourist trains on Ramayana Circuit in 2018, Indian Railways and IRCTC is relaunching two packages on this circuit in November 2019. These Shri Ramayana Express tour packages are part of Bharat Darshan scheme of the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) and cover world-famous places that are associated with Lord Rama. The first such train – Shri Ramayana Express Yatra is scheduled to depart from Jaipur via Delhi on 3 November 2019, while the other train – Ramayana Express would depart from Indore via Varanasi on 18 November 2019.

Shri Ramayana Express tour packages: Schedule, route, places and fare – top 10 things to know

1) Journey on Shri Ramayana Yatra will start from Jaipur railway station with boarding and de-boarding at Alwar, Rewari, Ghaziabad, Delhi Safdarjung, Bareilly, Moradabad, and Lucknow stations. This package also includes the option of visiting Ramayana related places that are located in Sri Lanka for a limited number of seats.

2) The 16 nights/17 days tour will cover many places including Ram Janmbhoomi and Hanuman Garhi at Ayodhya, Sita Mata Mandir at Sitamarhi, Bharat Mandir at Nandigram, Janakpur, Tulsi Manas Mandir and Sankat Mochan Mandir at Varanasi, Sita Samahit Sthal at Sitamarhi, Hanuman Mandir, Triveni Sangam and Bharadwaj Ashram at Prayag, Ramghat and Sati Anusuiya Mandir at Chitrakoot, Panchvati at Nasik, Shringi Rishi Mandir at Shringverpur, Anjanadri Hill and Hanuman Janm Sthal at Hampi and Jyotirlinga Shiva Mandir at Rameshwaram.

4) The train will have a total capacity of 800 seats. The trip fare from Jaipur in Shri Ramayana Yatra Tourist Train is Rs 16,065 per person for the Indian part of the tour. The package also includes a tour to Sri Lanka, with 40 seats only.

5) Those who are interested to visit Sri Lanka are required to de-board the train on 17th day at Chennai. They will be offered an economy class flight ticket on Srilankan Airlines. This part of the tour will cover Colombo, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya and Negombo.

• The pilgrimage circuit of Shri Ramayana Yatra will include 2 travel components – one is in India and the other one is in Sri Lanka.
• In India, the first stoppage point is in Ayodhya which is to be followed by Hanuman Garhi Ramkot and Kanak Bhawan temple.
• The planned route of the train is Delhi Safdarjung – Ayodhya – Sitamadhi – Varanasi – Allahabad – Citrakoot – Nasik Road – Hospate – Rameshwaram – Madurai – Delhi Safdarjung.
• People can board trains from Delhi Safdarjung, Ghaziabad, Moradabad, Bareilly & Lucknow locations while they can de-board trains at Chennai Central, Lucknow, Bareilly, Moradabad, Ghaziabad, Delhi Safdarjung locations.
• For these places in India, the total money charged (ticket price) is Rs. 15,120 and this leg would be completed in 16 days.
• Second leg of the tour is for Sri lanka which is to be charged separately as the passengers opting for the Sri Lanka leg of Ramayana Yatra Package can take flight from Chennai to Colombo.

Is the Trans-Siberian Railway expensive?

Before starting on your Trans-Siberian Railway adventure you naturally want to know what the entire trip will cost. Although this sounds like a simple question, it is pretty difficult to answer. The Trans-Siberian Railway price of travel depends on the following factors:

• Which travel class do I want to use? The price for a first class ticket is about three times the price of a 3rd class ticket
• Am I willing to buy the tickets myself and assume responsibility for the organisation of the trip?
• How many stopovers do I want to make? The more breaks, the higher the total price.
• What sort of accommodation do I want? Will it be a luxury hotel or will a hostel dormitory be sufficient?
• What tours and excursions would I like to go on?
• What is the current exchange rate for rubles?

Basically, everything from a luxury to a budget holiday is available. If you buy yourself a 3rd Class nonstop ticket at the counter, a few hundred Euros will cover the price. All you will experience is a week on the Trans-Siberian train and will see nothing of the cities on the way. There is, however, any amount of room for upward expansion. Everyone makes different choices about which aspects they are willing to spend money on. I personally prefer to save money on accommodation and railcar class, visit as many cities and do as many trips as possible. To enable better classification of your travel expenses I have contrasted two typical traveler types. In the third column you can calculate the total cost of your own journey on the Trans-Siberian Railway. Please keep in mind that these are only rough estimations and not exact prices.

The all-in costs seem fairly high at first. However, they cover everything and it is quite a long journey taking four weeks. Many people forget to consider that when looking at the list. We should also deduct the running costs for food and leisure at home. I think most visitors to this page will classify themselves somewhere between the two categories, that is around the € 2,000 – € 2,500 range. When comparing these prices with other travel packages, you get the impression that it is hardly worthwhile travelling individually on the Trans-Siberian Railway. Please keep in mind that most packages last no more than 14 days and you are herded like cattle through the most beautiful locations.

If you spend less time on the Trans-Siberian Railway you will, of course, pay less. I chose this particular travel length because I prefer not to do things by halves. If you fulfill your dream of travelling on the Trans-Siberian Railway, enjoy it and don’t rush things. But it’s up to you, of course. Try playing around with the form a bit to find the appropriate price for your trip.
