The Journey franchise began with Journey to the Centre of the Earth , and continued with its sequel Journey 2: The Mysterious Island . Both films were hugely successful, and with the introduction of Dwayne Johnson in the second film, they fast became box office successes, picked up legions of fans, and looked on track to follow the classic film franchise formula for continued success.

Shortly after the success of Journey 2: The Mysterious Island , a following sequel was announced which promised to be even bigger and better: Journey 3: From the Earth to the Moon . Unfortunately, this project was paused shortly after, and then the announcement came that the film was no more . Here’s everything we know about the sequel and why it didn't happen.

Script Difficulties and Actor Commitment Issues

One of the first problems that was encountered by the Journey franchise was the curse of a lack of script for developing the project further. Johnson revealed in 2018 that the lack of a solid script was a large reason for his not being involved in the project. There was initial speculation that writers Chad and Carey W. Hayes would be tied to the film. This could have been exciting, given their previous work in films such as The Conjuring and House of Wax , representing the possibility for the script to change to be more mature or have horror themes which were not fully explored before. This creative direction was eventually scrapped for reasons unclear. Naturally, difficulties such as these meant that actors were hesitant to be tied to the project since it didn’t seem to be fully coming into fruition. It would have been interesting, however, to see what direction the Hayes Brothers could have taken the film in.

Dwayne Johnson’s Popularity Surged

Dwayne Johnson first gained huge popularity under his stage name The Rock. He initially appeared as a wrestler for WWE, where he wrestled for eight years and became one of the most famous wrestlers to ever be on the show, developing a huge following and growing in popularity year after year. This led to a continued career in film, beginning in 2002 when he starred in The Scorpion King , which then led to further success, allowing him to leave WWE altogether and act in Hollywood full time.

When Johnson joined the franchise in Journey 2: The Mysterious Island , his career was only just beginning to gain the momentum that it has today. The years following Journey 2 saw Johnson take on several huge projects, like Fast & Furious 6 , Hercules , San Andreas , and Moana , to name a few. It’s clear that his schedule was becoming more and more packed, and without a script for Journey 3 , the possibility of a sequel was put to the back of his to-do list. Despite director Peyton frequently stating in interviews that he did not have any plans for the franchise to end, the lack of Johnson’s presence would have likely thrown a wrench in the plans. Johnson eventually confirmed on Twitter that he would not be returning, which present the ultimate challenge for the film since he was an integral part to its success and general appeal. While responding to his fans, the actor stated that the reason behind the cancelation was the script and his busy work schedule.

There’s an Online Petition for the Project to be Resurrected

Understandably, fans were not happy with the decision for the film to be shelved, and Johnson’s announcement that he would not be returning in 2018 caused even further disappointment. The original director for the film was supposed to be Brad Peyton, and after having huge successes like San Andreas and Rampage , we can understand why fans were sad about missing out on this opportunity. Why The Rock's Giving Up On Making Journey 3

Between his turns in franchises like G.I. Joe and Fast and Furious (just to name a couple), Dwayne Johnson has earned his Franchise Viagra nickname. That said, not all of his potential projects will ever see the light of day, including a sequel to Journey 2: The Mysterious Island . Some fans have wondered why we haven't seen the third installment in the franchise yet, and Johnson has officially taken to social media to explain that he gave up on it because he couldn't creatively make it work. In response to the question of Journey 3 's status, The Rock posted:

So it seems that there was a plan to make a third Journey at one point in time. The Rock wanted to dive further into Jules Verne's From the Earth to the Moon to push the franchise into trilogy territory. However, as is often the case with franchises such as this, the project ran into creative issues and ended up getting abandoned somewhere in development hell. Now, Dwayne Johnson has moved on to other projects, including his upcoming Luke Hobbs/Deckard Shaw Fast and Furious spinoff , with no intention of journeying back to Journey .

Of course, if you're a fan who wants to see The Rock adventure through a jungle on a blockbuster adventure, then you can always head to your local theater to check out Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle . The revival of the board game (now video game) adventure series has made a ton of money and has earned a welcoming response from critics . It's not a Journey movie, but based on his post , it seems that it will have to do for the foreseeable future.

That's not to say that the Journey franchise couldn't conceivably continue without The Rock involved in some capacity. After all, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island , despite its status as a sequel, was Dwayne Johnson first installment in the franchise -- which saw him take the reins from Brendan Fraser after 2008's Journey to the Center of the Earth . Dropping a box office draw as powerful of The Rock doesn't necessarily seem like the smartest business decision, but if he's not coming back, that could be the only way to get another Journey movie made.

2016 Dodge Journey Performance Review

Critics report that the base engine in the 2016 Dodge Journey is noisy and weak. Most prefer the available V6 engine, though some argue that it also fails to impress. Many test drivers say the Journey’s handling is controlled, with good maneuverability, but some think it feels unbalanced around corners. The Journey offers below-average fuel economy for the class.

Acceleration and Power

The 2016 Dodge Journey comes standard with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that puts out 173 horsepower and it's mated to a four-speed automatic transmission. A 283-horsepower 3.6-liter V6 engine mated to a six-speed automatic transmission is available. The Journey earns an EPA-estimated 19/26 mpg city/highway, which is among the worst ratings in the class.

The Journey’s base engine provides insufficient power and makes too much noise, according to test drivers. They note that the optional V6 engine provides more power, but they still consider it unremarkable. Both engines underwhelm reviewers when trying to pass at highway speeds, and the fuel economy also disappoints, due in part to the outdated four-speed transmission.

It's the destination that counts.

We shouldn’t be surprised to see so many examples of the Journey crossover, as Dodge sold more than 105,000 units in 2015 alone and nearly 94,000 in 2014. With prices ranging from $21,990 for a two-row, four-cylinder, front-wheel-drive model to nearly $40K for a full-boat, three-row, all-wheel-drive V-6 R/T, the Journey certainly casts a wide net over the mid-size crossover segment.

The Crossroad Plus trim (below only the R/T in the hierarchy) of our test car brings unique front and rear styling; “Platinum Chrome” roof rails, side sills, and front and rear fascia accents; 19-inch aluminum wheels; and some additional minor embellishments. Finished in basic black of varying textures and sheens, the interior provides utilitarian style rather than flash, featuring leather seating with mesh inserts, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, Chrysler’s ubiquitous and intuitive 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen infotainment system, a power driver’s seat, and a trick storage bin under the flip-up cushion of the front passenger seat, which makes it easy to keep phones and tablets out of sight but within easy reach—as long as no one is sitting there, of course.

Our test example also included the $1250 Popular Equipment group (heated front seats and steering wheel, remote start, alarm); the $1295 Navigation and Backup group (navigation, backup camera, park assist, and the usual collection of SiriusXM travel and traffic services); and finally, $225 built-in rear child booster seats that make lugging around those grime-grabbing portable plastic boosters a thing of the past. And the pricing is very competitive among three-row crossovers; our nearly loaded $34,660 Journey is thousands cheaper than, say, a no-options Chevrolet Traverse LT AWD, which goes for $36,900.

So it’s no wonder Dodge advertises the Journey as the “most affordable three-row V-6 AWD crossover.” It is not, however, the roomiest. Encouraged by the easy use and functionality of the aforementioned second-row booster seats, we figured the time was right to let the kiddies populate the third row, and that’s where things hit a snag. Despite being equipped with the necessary articulation to allow the second row to—in theory—move out of the way, it’s still a painfully tight squeeze through the gap into the third row. Luckily, the children in our test group took glee in simply flinging themselves over the second-row seatbacks to get to the third row. It’s worth mentioning that although the front seats offer Barcalounger levels of comfort, the second row is tight for grain-fed adults. Frankly, most of the Journey’s competitors offer better second- and third-row accommodations.

Comfortably Numb

Dynamically speaking, driving the Journey is akin to piloting a rolling sensory-deprivation chamber. The steering, brakes, and other controls are vague and feel disconnected, even compared with uninvolving three-row competitors such as the Toyota Highlander . And vehicles such as the Toyota 4Runner and the Jeep Grand Cherokee offer the kind of off-road capability that would leave the Journey spinning its wheels. But the Journey will work among those for whom the weight of day-to-day life has long supplanted any need to contemplate the subtle intricacies of chassis refinement or rock-crawling capabilities.

Despite its indifferent controls, the Journey is at least in the hunt when it comes to quantifying its ability to go, stop, and turn. Equipped with the optional 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 and all-wheel drive, our test car required 7.8 seconds to reach 60 mph and 16.1 to complete the quarter-mile, clocking within several tenths of the numbers posted by the 2013 Dodge Journey V-6 we tested earlier . With 283 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, the corporate V-6 pulls competitively, but the engine feels like it doesn’t really wake up until about 3500 rpm, and the six-speed automatic is lackadaisical. Slow to respond whether shifted manually or left to its own devices, the gearbox in our test car repeatedly exhibited a clumsy two-three upshift that probably added a few tenths to the acceleration times.

LOWS: Fussy transmission, tight second- and third-row seating, drinks gas like a larger rig.

The stop from 70 mph consumed a respectable 177 feet, and the 225/55R-19 Kumho Solus KH16 tires held on long enough to post 0.76 g of grip on our 300-foot skidpad. These numbers fall reasonably close to those produced by the mid-size crossover set, such as the two-row Nissan Murano (178 feet, 0.78 g) and the three-row Toyota Highlander (186 feet, 0.80 g). So while the Journey is capable of keeping the pack in sight when pressed, it doesn’t really enjoy it. Finally, we were disappointed with the 17 mpg overall that our Journey returned. To compare apples to bigger apples, that’s the same mileage figure we achieved in our test of its big brother, the Dodge Durango with the 360-hp Hemi V-8 . If fuel efficiency is your goal, there are thriftier ways to ride than a Journey with the V-6 engine.

It’s been said that life is a journey, not a destination. Dodge Journey owners, on the other hand, are advised to focus on the destination part, as there are numerous competitors that make for more compelling travel partners.

Stowaway Cat Gets From Utah to California in Amazon Returns Package

Galena, a 6-year-old shorthair, was found in an Amazon warehouse a week after she climbed into a 3-by-3-foot cardboard box at her owner’s home.

When Carrie Clark got a phone call on April 17 from a veterinarian in California informing her that her cat, which had vanished from her Utah home a week earlier, had been found some 500 miles away, her first reaction was disbelief.

“I could not believe that it was true,” Ms. Clark said in an interview on Sunday night. “I told her: I think this is a prank.”

It wasn’t. Galena, her 6-year-old American shorthair, had sneaked inside a 3-by-3-foot cardboard Amazon returns package alongside five pairs of steel-toed boots. Then the cat was transported two states away to one of the company’s warehouses, where it was discovered by Amazon employees.

Galena survived the unexpected journey without any food or water, Ms. Clark said.

Despite her ordeal, Galena was in relatively good health with no issues apart from mild dehydration, Ms. Clark said. Two factors had helped: One seam on the box had come unglued, allowing oxygen to circulate, and mild weather kept Galena from overheating or freezing.

“It’s really a miracle that she was able to survive,” Ms. Clark said.

Ms. Clark said she thought that Galena got into the box while her husband was packing it, by jumping inside when he left to fetch some tape to seal it up.

“She doesn’t meow a lot and she loves boxes, so for her, she was really happy in that moment, I’m sure,” Ms. Clark said. “Although I’m sure that wasn’t the case later on.”

Since the box already weighed over 30 pounds, Ms. Clark and her husband, who live in the city of Lehi, near Salt Lake City, did not notice the added weight of a stowaway when they mailed it on April 10, she said.

But they did quickly notice that their shy, indoor cat was missing that same day. After days of searching the house and the neighborhood turned up nothing, worst-case scenarios started running through her mind, Ms Clark said. Had Galena darted outside without anyone noticing? Had she been snatched up by a predator? Or end up in the river behind the house?

“We had absolutely no idea what had happened,” Ms. Clark said. “It was really challenging; I was definitely in a lot of grief.”

Then she received the call from a veterinarian in Riverside, Calif. An Amazon employee, Brandy Hunter, had brought Galena in, and the veterinarian identified her through her microchip and contacted Ms. Clark.

Ms. Hunter, who could not immediately be reached for comment, said on Facebook that she received a call from co-workers who had opened a returns box and found a cat inside.

“We have gotten some pretty crazy things in my time but never anything like this!” Ms. Hunter wrote. She said she had driven to the warehouse to catch and look after the cat, which she said had spent days in the box “in the back of a trailer full of items being returned to Amazon.”

Amazon did not immediately respond to requests for comment. After products are dropped off at an Amazon returns center, they are inspected for damage and signs of use to determine if they can be re-listed for sale, according to the company.

When Ms. Clark got the call, she and her husband quickly booked a flight to California. The next day they arrived at the veterinarian’s clinic, where they were reunited with Galena.

“When I got to hold her again, she stopped shaking and knew that I was there for her,” Ms. Clark said. “It was such a miraculous moment.”

Chrysler 3.6L V6 Pentastar Engine Specs, Problems & Reliability

The 3.6L V6 Pentastar is a 3.6-liter six-cylinder gasoline engine introduced first at the New York Auto Show in 2009 for the 2011 model-year Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep vehicles. This new V6 is one of the most technologically advanced engines to date, created by Chrysler. This V6 is used in popular vehicles around the world such as the Dodge Challenger, Jeep Cherokee, Jeep Wrangler, and Ram 1500. The 3.6L Pentastar V6 for three years in a row was among the top ten engines in the US market. Let's take an in-depth look at the 3.6 Pentastar engine design, its common problems, reliability, and longevity.

3.6L Pentastar Engine Overview

The new 3.6 V6 engine is 38% more powerful, consumes 11% less fuel, and 42 lbs (19 kg) lighter than its 3.5-liter predecessor. It is also smaller in size: 94 mm shorter than the 3.7 and 34 mm than the 3.5 V6. The engine has a high-pressure die-cast aluminum cylinder block with a 60-degree V angle between cylinder banks. It has an open-deck design that saves material, lighter and cheaper to produce, and has cast iron cylinder liners for increasing longevity. The engine block is equipped with three piston oil cooler jets. Each oil jet cools two pistons, preventing detonations by managing heat. There are forged steel connecting rods, the nodular iron crankshaft, and cast aluminum pistons with low-friction rings and reduced skirt area for less weight and friction. The engine uses a chain-driven, vane-type variable displacement oil pump. Engineers removed all brackets for the engine accessories. The alternator, air conditioner compressor, and belt tensioner are bolted to the engine block. They are driven by a serpentine belt as well. This arrangement has significantly reduced the level of vibration and noise.

The 3.6L Pentastar has sand-cast aluminum cylinder heads made of T7 heat-treated aluminum. The cylinder head features 4-valve per cylinder and dual overhead camshafts with roller finger followers with hydraulic lifters. The intake and exhaust camshafts are chain-driven (there is a separate timing chain for each head). Timing chains are a "silent chain link" design. All four camshafts come with torque-actuated phasers. The intake valve has a single-piece design and is made of forged heat-resistant (martensitic) steel; the intake valve diameter is 39 mm. The exhaust valves have a two-piece design, with a forged austenitic head welded to a martensitic stem. The exhaust valve diameter is 30 mm. Cylinder heads feature high-flow intake and exhaust ports and an integrated exhaust manifold. On top of the engine, there is a lightweight composite intake manifold fitted with a 74 mm throttle body and an electronically controlled multipoint port fuel injection system.

90% of maximum torque is achieved in the range of 1800-6350 rpm. Thus, the engine can provide excellent driving dynamics without requiring high-octane (premium gasoline). While Pentastar engines are not demanding on fuel quality and sufficiently simple to maintain, they feature exceptional fuel efficiency, low emissions, and smooth operation. Pentastar V6 engines are popular both in the United States and beyond. They meet Federal Tier 2 BIN 5 emission requirements, Ultra-low Emissions Vehicle II standards, and Euro6 standards. It is also designed to meet stringent future standards, including LEV III and PZEV California standards.

2016+ Pentastar Engines

In 2016, FCA released an upgraded Pentastar engine family and a new version of the 3.6L V6 for the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango. The revised engine now has a two-stage variable valve lift (VVL). The VVL system provides low and high valve lifts. Low-lift settings at low speeds save fuel (up to a 2.7% increase over the previous version), while high valve lift turns on when power is needed. Unfortunately, the manufacturer was forced to install a cooled exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system. The modified engine also features a new plastic intake manifold with longer runners, increased torque, high-tumble intake ports inside cylinder heads, new valve springs, and low-tension piston rings. The fuel system received new eight-hole injectors. And the good news is, the engine has kept a port fuel injection. The variable valve timing (VVT) system was recalibrated. The compression ratio was increased from 10.2:1 to 11.3:1. These improvements help to produce more power and torque together with better fuel efficiency and emissions.

Pentastar 3.6 Cylinder Head Failure

The left side cylinder head problem had been found in about 0.5% percent of 2011-13 vehicles with 3.6-liter V-6 Pentastar engines. Engines with cylinder head failure can be easily recognized by a ticking sound from the left side. Sometimes they had other symptoms, including a check engine light illuminated, misfires, and power loss. The failure was caused by excessive wear. In August 2012, Chrysler made the design upgrade. Revised heads come with hardened valve guides and seats, and the problem is rarely reported now. All 2011, 2012, and some 2013 model year vehicles with 3.6L Pentastar engines have extended engine warranty on the left side cylinder head to 10 years or 150,000 miles.

Problem with Rocker Arms

Very often, this problem is confused with the one described above. The most common symptoms are very similar - a ticking/tapping sound from the upper engine area and a cylinder misfire. You can also find a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) indicating misfire. To address this issue, the FCA issued a service bulletin in March 2014. However, some newer Pentastar 3.6 engines still experience rocker arm failure, and there are no any additional warranty periods for this problem from the FCA.

Cooling System Issues and Oil Pump Failure

Some owners complain of problems with clogged-up radiators and frequent replacement of water pumps, thermostats, oil cooler, and oil pumps. The problem may lie in the production and preparation of an individual engine before assembly. The heads are sand-cast and undergo serious inspections for cleanliness before reaching assembly plants. But any residual sand that remains from the casting process inside the engine can also circulate through the vehicle's cooling systems, causing clogs in the radiator and oil cooling system. Fortunately, this problem is not as common as the ones listed above, but it is very annoying since many stories on the internet from owners who went through these same repairs multiple times.

3.6L V6 Pentastar Reliability Summary

So, is the 3.6L Pentastar engine reliable? Summing up, we can say the Pentastar 3.6 reliability is way above average. It is time-tested well enough, and over 10 million Pentastar engines were produced to date. Despite that they had some issues early on, the 3.6L V6 Pentastar is great, durable, one of the most reliable engines available on the market right now. With proper maintenance, the 3.6 Pentastar engine longevity is around 250-300k miles (there are even a few cases of the Pentastar last up to impressive 500,000 miles).

Kevin o'connell's qb journey. the next phase begins right now.

Whenever he's asked for his thesis on the most important position in football, Kevin O'Connell returns almost invariably to the topic of a quarterback's journey. He speaks about it with a fascination that only seems to have grown the longer he's staked his career on it.

O'Connell turns 39 on May 25, the weekend after he will have ostensibly coached a rookie quarterback through the Vikings' first week of organized team activities. He is 17 months younger than Aaron Rodgers, the NFL's oldest current starting quarterback. Had O'Connell's career taken a different path after the Patriots made him a third-round pick in 2008, he could be one of the NFL's oldest players, rather than one of its youngest head coaches. There is no bitterness in his voice as he reflects on the pivot, only wonder at the mystical process that remains so difficult to nail and could soon shape the Vikings' future.

As he sat at a table overlooking the sprawling lawn at the Ritz-Carlton Grande Lakes in Orlando during the NFL owners' meetings on March 25, O'Connell said, "I always use a loose, light term with my own [career], calling it a 'quarterback journey,' but it was one nonetheless."

The conversation shifted to Sam Darnold, the third overall pick in 2018 who signed a one-year deal to make the Vikings his fourth franchise in seven years. O'Connell said Darnold, still just 26, could flourish given the right environment. The Vikings, with former quarterbacks layering the coaching staff and Pro Bowlers doing the blocking and receiving, could provide that environment.

"Quarterbacks can be at different phases, parts of their career that maybe don't always align with performing for three and a half hours on Sunday," he said. "If you go through the process and get around some good coaches, which I think Sam was in San Francisco, [you can grow]. … As a young quarterback, or really any sort of quarterback coming into our situation, I do feel strongly about the opportunity we can offer."

The true test of O'Connell's theory, of course, is not likely to be Darnold. It could arrive as soon as Thursday night, if the Vikings draft the quarterback for whom they've been planning practically since O'Connell and General Manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah arrived in Minnesota in 2022. They have scouted the 2024 draft class for two years , making only temporary commitments to Kirk Cousins in the meantime and stopping short of the move up for a quarterback they contemplated in the 2023 draft in part because they knew the promise this class held. They let Cousins leave in free agency, acquired the No. 23 pick from Houston to go with their 11th overall choice and put at least a half-dozen quarterbacks through a pre-draft process O'Connell designed .

Thursday could be the consummation of that process, especially if the Vikings trade up even one spot from No. 11 to take the highest-drafted quarterback in franchise history. But it could also be a commencement of sorts, with O'Connell at the top of an infrastructure that seems as precisely engineered for quarterback development as the Vikings could hope.

The Vikings have drafted a quarterback in the first round just four times in franchise history . The last time they paired a first-round QB with an offensive head coach was 1999, when Dennis Green took Daunte Culpepper 11th overall.

Christian Ponder, selected 12th in 2011, flailed under a coaching staff (led by Leslie Frazier) that never seemed to be in lockstep with the front office. Teddy Bridgewater, the 32nd overall pick in 2014, was turning into an effective game manager for a defensive-minded head coach (Mike Zimmer) before a 2016 knee injury rattled his career trajectory.

O'Connell was hired to replace Zimmer and embraced Cousins, winning a division title with him in 2022 and forming a close partnership with the quarterback. But it seemed only a matter of time until the Vikings would entrust the position's future to the head coach they'd hired to safeguard it.

O'Connell backed up Tom Brady, studied under Bill Belichick and speaks about his own short-lived career with enough wry humor that suggests he's used it as a reference for young QBs hoping to avoid similar pitfalls. This winter, he hired Josh McCown , a 17-year NFL veteran who played for nine teams and for O'Connell in the latter's first NFL QB coach job in Cleveland, to inject quantities of detail and institutional knowledge into a rookie's instruction that could only come from a player with his experience.

Offensive coordinator Wes Phillips comes from a three-generation NFL family and won a Super Bowl with the Rams and O'Connell under Sean McVay. So did former quarterbacks coach Chris O'Hara, who is still on staff as a senior offensive assistant and pass game specialist. Assistant QB coach Grant Udinski, viewed as a rising star on the Vikings' staff, figures to provide the kinds of extra hours-long teaching sessions that have made him a trusted resource for the team's quarterbacks.

A rookie would join a quarterback room with two veterans, including one (Darnold) who knows about beginning a career atop the NFL QB high wire. He would throw to Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison and (eventually) T.J. Hockenson , hand off to Aaron Jones and be protected by Christian Darrisaw and Brian O'Neill. The Vikings, it seems, have put in as many trail guides and signposts as possible to help a young quarterback along the journey O'Connell speaks so much about.

The question is, will it work?

Since the start of the Super Bowl era in 1966, there have been 102 quarterbacks selected in the first 10 picks of the draft. While more than half of those players (52) have reached a Pro Bowl, just 13 have earned first-team All-Pro honors in their careers, and only eight are in the Hall of Fame (though quarterbacks like Patrick Mahomes figure to raise that total).

The numbers underscore what O'Connell has witnessed and lived: there are enough pitfalls along the way that the QB journey is rarely flawless.

"Every quarterback goes to different environments, different systems, different organizations, and that path is not the same for every player," O'Connell said last week. "The timeline of when they're reaching their early peak of their rookie contract, when it's so valuable to have a rookie because of all the financial terms, that's one thing. But you also want to make sure that you're developing and doing what's best for the player. We just happen to have a really good situation, in my opinion, with the players we have in that huddle, the guys that are going to be coaching that player. Then ultimately, what we hope [we have] is a long-term plan to have a really special player at the position.

"But all that can't happen without a daily process where you're attacking and understanding what you need to get better at, how the NFL game may be different than the college level and what that system was like versus what we'll do. I think there's a lot of ways you can look at different strengths of different players in the draft and say, 'You can make a pretty good projection that high-quality quarterback play could be in their future.' But there's a lot of work and time and effort to help them get there."

The Vikings have completed some of that work: scouting prospects, building a QB-friendly coaching staff and outfitting the roster with offensive weapons. The most important work, though, could be days — maybe even hours — from starting.

The next quarterback journey O'Connell oversees could, one way or the other, change the course of the franchise.

Knuckles is a spin-off of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 , with the six episodes on Paramount+ ending the show in an action-packed fashion. Since Sonic 2 's release in April 2022, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 's story has been highly anticipated. In order to make the wait for the third installment slightly easier, Paramount has crafted a spin-off TV show centered around Knuckles , telling a solo story about the Echidna warrior.

Knuckles ' voice cast sees Idris Elba return as the titular character, while Adam Pally leads the human cast as the returning Wade Whipple from the Sonic the Hedgehog movies. While many will question how much Sonic and Tails are in Knuckles , the show solidifies itself as a Knuckles-centric storyline. Journeying across the United States to train Wade in the ways of an Echidna warrior, Knuckles ' ending is suitably action-packed , expectedly hilarious, and even features some elements that set up the story of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 .

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will release in theaters on December 20, 2024.

Why Knuckles’ Journey With Wade Whipple Was Important

Concerning what the point of this journey was, it was to establish Earth as a home for Knuckles. After Sonic the Hedgehog 2 , it became clear that Tails and Sonic have acclimatized to Earth well. Knuckles ' ending allows the warrior to come around to the ways of Earth, coming to call the planet his new home. Where Wade is concerned, the journey allowed him to become a much more confident, competent character as he learned the ways of an Echidna warrior from his new friend Knuckles. In Knuckles episode 4, Wade is shown fighting through his fears and becoming much braver.

Wade's arc then came to a head in Knuckles ' ending , where he came up against his father, who had abandoned him. Cary Elwes' "Pistol" Pete Whipple is cartoonishly evil as the show's bowling antagonist, but serves a purpose in that Wade confronts him for his mistakes. After proving his father was wrong to abandon Wade, his mother, and his sister, Wade beats Pete in a bowling competition. With Sonic the Hedgehog 3 officially including Shadow the Hedgehog, it could be the case that the villain's powers are used to create a larger arsenal of G.U.N. weaponry.

Knuckles is a spin-off of the Sonic the Hedgehog movie franchise created for Paramount+. Idris Elba reprises his role as Knuckles the Echidna in the action-adventure series, and the show will follow him on a new adventure as he meets new allies and faces new foes.

I tested Adobe Firefly vs Midjourney with 7 prompts to see which is the better AI image generator

Testing the latest versions of both tools

1. A Quiet Morning in a Venice Canal

Adobe released the latest version of its “ethical” artificial intelligence image model this week and with it the promise of greater photorealism and improved prompt following. Midjourney has also seen continual improvements since the release of version six at the end of last year.

Midjourney and Adobe Firefly are among the most widely used AI image generators for different reasons, with Adobe finding a home among traditional artists and designers and Midjourney the darling of a new generation of AI artists.

Both models feature in my best AI image generators guide . To see whether Adobe Firefly and its licensed training dataset can match the quality and prompt adherence of Midjourney and its murkier origins I’ve put them head-to-head with 7 prompts.

Why test Adobe and Midjourney?

With Adobe exclusively training its model on the hundreds of millions of images licensed as part of the Adobe Stock library — including some made by Midjourney — I wanted to see if its promise of ethical sourcing plus impressive output could stand up against Midjourney.

Unlike Adobe, Midjourney does not disclose the source of its training data. The startup likely used images scraped from the open web without permission from the creators and as a result is facing lawsuits from artists claiming it stole their work.

In a lawsuit of its own, OpenAI said it is impossible to train a leading AI model without copyright material in the training data. For now the question of training data, provenance and legality are very much up in the air and open to a multitude of court cases and lawmakers.

Designing the test 

This is an interesting way to see if that actually holds true. Can the massive library of anything it could find for Midjourney match the limited but structured and licensed dataset for Adobe?

I created nine prompts that push the AI to adhere to a specific request, are generic enough that it has to work out what to do and specific enough to offer a comparison. All settings were left on default with no specifics beyond making it widescreen.

Lets start with a stunning scene, something peaceful and historic in equal measure. For this prompt I wanted to see something picturesque but not artistic, however I kept the prompt generic enough not to force a photo or a painting.

The prompt: “Show an early morning scene along a Venice canal with light fog. Small boats are docked along ancient, moss-covered buildings, and a solitary figure in a striped shirt is feeding birds.”

These are two very aesthetically different images. One a simple depiction of a beautiful space, the other an intricate work exploring beauty in decay. Both are compelling images but neither have realistic water. Midjourney wins for quality and detail but I don't dislike Firefly.

Lets jump to an alternative universe where cyberpunk is the dominant style. This should create a game-like scene and that is exactly what we got. Lots of neon.

The Prompt: “Visualize a bustling cyberpunk street market at dusk. Neon signs glow above stalls selling futuristic gadgets. Crowds of diverse characters, some human, some robotic, navigate the narrow, rain-slicked streets.”

I was surprised how similar these two images were to one another. The Midjourney image looks like someone took the Adobe Firefly picture and put it through an upscaler, or that it was given longer to render. While I like the mystery of the Adobe image the quality of the Midjourney picture easily wins out.

For this one I wanted to capture the essence of knowledge. A sense of information swirling around the space. I didn't want a picture of a shelf of books.

The Prompt: “Imagine a vast, ancient library with towering wooden shelves filled with dusty books. A grand chandelier hangs above. A few beams of sunlight stream through high windows, illuminating hidden messages in the architecture.”

Both images look like a different perspective on the same room. One a photograph taken by a student their phone, the other by a gifted photographer. The Midjourney image is better, not significantly so, but better and captures the prompt well.

Love Oasis, particularly their earlier material. But for this prompt we're looking to the desert to create a pocket of life in an otherwise desolate space. The idea is that to follow the prompt it needs to capture the concept of abundance amidst isolation.

The Prompt: “Capture a serene desert oasis at sunset. Tall palm trees and lush greenery surround a small, crystal-clear pond. Sand dunes stretch into the distance, glowing orange and pink under the setting sun.”

I didn't like either of these images. Adobe created a cut-scene from GTA-3 and Midjourney made one from GTA-5. Neither truly encapsulated the idea of abundance or isolation but Adobe got closer to the prompt.

From desolation to imagination. The next prompt is designed to see how well the AI models deal with the concept of order through chaos. I want weird experiments, gadgets and a fun retro vibe.

The Prompt: “Depict a cluttered Victorian inventor's workshop. The room is filled with strange brass machines, gears, and tools. Papers and blueprints are scattered everywhere, and a large, intricate clockwork device dominates the centre.”

Adobe Firefly and Midjourney somewhow both created an image that looked like a photo taken during a museum tour of some old inventors house a century after his death. Midjourney did a better job at captured the full space and whimsy but there is something about the Adobe image that is captivating. 

Do you want to build a snowman? No, neither do I as I'm not a fan of the snow but there is nothing as magical as a frozen waterfall — from a distance. This prompt is designed to see how well it captures the concept of unreality. 

The Prompt: “Picture a large, frozen waterfall cascading through a snowy forest. Icicles hang from the branches of frost-covered trees, and magical creatures peep out from behind the trunks, glowing eyes watching curiously.”

The winner here comes down to personal interpretation. If you like something out of a direct-to-video cartoon horror movie from the 90s then Adobe wins. They both look like something out of a horror movie and neither followed the prompt perfectly.

A future city is almost one of my default prompts to try on any image generator, that and something to do with cats on the moon. Its a good test of prompt adherance as it needs to understand your vision of the future.

The Prompt: “Show an aerial view of a futuristic city at night. Skyscrapers covered in digital screens tower over glowing streets filled with flying cars. Parks and rivers are seamlessly integrated into the city's high-tech design.”

Adobe Firefly completely missed the mark on this one. For a start it isn't at night, the skyscrapers look like Playmobile toys and it took the parks a bit too literally. Meanwhile Midjourney captured the concept of a future city's upward sprawl perfectly.

Which model won?

Both did a good job in their own way, both have impressive fine-tuning and customization options — Adobe's are much easier to use than Midjourney — and both can create photorealistic images.

If your goal is to sell the image or use it in a commercial project where rights are a particularly sticky topic then Adobe Firefly is your only choice of the two, but for me the Midjourney images were all significantly better.

Both followed the prompt perfectly but Midjourney created more aesthetically exciting pictures based on the set criteria. There was more detail, depth and realism in every instance.

A key example of this is the future city where Midjourney generated something out of Sim City 2000 compared to Midjourney's year 3000 visual. That said, Adobe Firefly feels much more positive in its approach to image generation.

Midjourney wins.
