It started when we all realized that we had a passion for cycling. Spurred on by a good friend, and now Cycling Director Adam LeSage, we decided to start a monthly ride dedicated to three of our favorite things: craft beer, bikes, and good people.

You can join us for one of these rides on the first Monday of every month! The ride goes like this: Bar 1 --> Bar 2 --> Karbach Brewing Co --> back to Bar 1. Find out where the ride starts by clicking here!

For every Karbach beer you buy at Bar 1 or Bar 2 you will get a redeemable token for a 9 ounce beer at the brewery (please note: these tokens are only redeemable on the Monday night rides). If you don't join us for the ride, but still want to come to the brewery, no worries! You can pay for tokens once you're there!

Please remember:

  • Wear bright clothing
  • Dress for the elements
  • Wear a helmet!
  • Have a kickass time

ABOVE ALL: We want everyone to have a great time and get home safely. Ride smart, ride safe!

Running Club

The Karbach Running Club meets every Thursday at 5:45PM at the brewery. At 6PM we take off on a 3 mileish run and make it back to the brewery during the last hour or so of the Thursday tasting. When you join there is a 1 time fee of $10. Upon signing up you'll receive a pint glass and your first pint of beer on the house. After 5 runs you receive a Karbach Dri Fit Running Club Shirt. Every 5 runs after that, you get another free pint at the bar!

Karbach and Saint Arnold’s Brewery Tours

by Larry · June 22, 2013

karbach brewery tours

The New Yorker’s “ Mapping the Rise of Craft Beer ” has Karbach as the 2nd fastest growing brewery in the nation (over 8,000 barrels in 2012), with Saint Arnold’s  the 44th largest (just over 49,000 barrels in 2012).

Below are some notes and pictures on “touring” each of these two fine breweries. Karbach is closer and they serve more darker beers which my wife and I enjoy, so we’ll continue to visit them more frequently…but not in the hot Texas summer; the A/C at Saint Arnold’s is a requirement during those months!

We Asked 10 Brewers: What Makes a Killer Brewery Tour?

We Asked 10 Brewers: What Makes a Killer Brewery Tour?

words: Emily Saladino

If you take the time and pay a fee to tour a brewery , chances are you’re pretty into beer. We asked 10 brewers across the country how breweries can show their appreciation for visiting devotees.

From insider access to samples aplenty, here is everything that separates a good brewery tour from a great one.

“A knowledgeable, friendly, enthusiastic tour guide. You can give people an unforgettable tour of an outhouse factory if you make it relatable and do it with energy and passion.”— Victor Novak, Brewmaster, Golden Road Brewing

“The guide!”— Emily Byrne, Brewer, Schlafly

“Knowledgeable people make a big difference — but fun, engaging, insightful, and passionate people take it to the next level. Being able to get as close to the brewery is great. Drinking from tanks, meeting brewers, fun facts, and feeling the brewery as you walk through it are great. It should be a little special because a brewery should appreciate the dedicated people who are now making breweries part of their lives on a bigger level. Historically, breweries were important parts of every community they were in and we are certainly seeing that again as breweries become meeting places and social anchors. So those who want to take it up a notch and get the deep dive that a good tour offers should come away feeling like it was worth it to the point where they feel even more connected to the beers and brewery they admire. They will tell their friends about it, and probably the world using some sort of social media or review site. So don’t screw it up.” — Jared Jankoski, Brewmaster, Goose Island Beer Co.

“It’s all about the guides: engaging, passionate, and knowledgeable. The tour guide should be in the brewery enough to know that the halls were designed wide enough for full pallets of pumpkin puree to move through and other insider details that you only get at the brewery. All access and an in-process beer sample are great, when permitted.” — Josh Waldman, Head Brewer, Elysian Brewing

“A great brewery tour is made when the staff is enthusiastic about showing off all the cool things they have and teaching you about the process. For me, it’s less about the process and more about the cool toys each brewery has and how they might do things a little different than we do… Obviously, a super-cool layout and high-end brewing equipment pique my interest, but someone who loves giving tours and is happy to show off what they do is the best part.” — Josh French, Production Brewmaster, Devils Backbone Brewing Company

“There are three keys to a great tour. First, a knowledgeable tour guide who knows the history of the brewery, knows about beer, and respects the industry by conveying their message without bad-mouthing other brewers. Second, an opportunity to get up close to the actual equipment, not just seeing it on a video screen or behind a glass window. Third, an opportunity to sample some of their beers along the way.” — Dan Jansen, Brewmaster and Director of Operations, Blue Point Brewing

“Making people feel like an insider is an important element to the perfect brewery tour. Being a brewmaster, I get to see behind the scenes, and I think the average brewery visitor wants that same feeling: That’s why they are on the tour. A kickass tour will include a knowledgeable guide who will let you get into the action, while observing safety. And of course you want people to taste what they are learning about, so samples are needed. I like the tours where there are pit stops dedicated to tasting a couple beers along the way… Finally, always set expectations, especially as it relates to tour duration. A good tour can vary in length, going anywhere from 20 minutes to two hours, but you need to let folks know what they are getting into before kicking off the tour because expectations are everything. And if you lean towards a longer tour, it’s important to break it up with tastings along the way.”— Eric Warner, Brewmaster, Karbach Brewing

“Hands down, it’s the guide. I’m willing to overlook the ‘worts’ and all (ha!) if I’m not only being informed, but entertained. Enthusiasm and knowledge trump all. But free beer is always a plus.” — Andy Ingram, Co-Founder and Head Brewer, Four Peaks Brewing

“A great tour starts out with excitement, from the guests and the tour guides. I’m a big fan of interactive tours. It’s a great way to show off a brewery’s inside knowledge, and showcase what really makes them stand out.” — Andrew Burman, Co-Founder, Other Half

“A great brewery tour consists of three main elements: tour guide, ambiance, and beer. The tour guide needs to love what they do, as well as be approachable and easy-going. Scripted tours are too stuffy and come off as disingenuous… The layout of the brewery is a huge factor. It does not have to be high tech by any means, just interesting and unique. There should be multiple stops throughout the tour for the group to gather and learn about the brewing process. It’s important to have an area that you’d want to hang out and crack a few fresh beers after the tour, too.” — Jimmy Seifrit, Brewmaster, 10 Barrel Brewing

“A great brewery tour is always in the details for me. I’m constantly on the lookout for those little Easter eggs hidden in each brewery I visit that make me want to ask a question. Whether it’s the classic rubber chicken or a velvet painting of Tom Selleck, à la Burial Beer Co., if it looks like it doesn’t belong, chances are the brewers had a good time putting it there.” — Jen Currier, Lead Blender, Wicked Weed Brewing

Biergarten visit

Karbach brews an excellent beer and their biergarten is a fun activity for all ages since there are games and music. It is Houston so mind the weather and prepare to sweat a little or a lot in the summer. Tour was very interesting & we only caught attitude from one staff member towards are 18 month old.

I visited this place on 3 other occasions, and each time I look forward to returning. Each time I gone, I've attended some Information Technology event, and it accommodates the events very well. It's a 2-story facility. On the ground floor, there's an outside patio. There's plenty of seating, both inside and outside. Also, there's plenty of parking.

Karbach seems to be located in an out-of-the-way location, but that could just be how Houston streets are designed. Definitely worth a visit. They have an excellent selection of beers, and best of all, will happily give you samples so you can find your favorite. I am not a beer connoiseur but my husband is, and he enjoyed the different beers. I liked the one that was mixed with ginger (which he scoffed at, but was perfect for me). If you arrive between 3-6, they have bar bites for $5, which are a great deal. I got the grilled chicken which was nice (although not something i would return for). I think i will order the tacos next time, or the burgers, as those were the most popular orders around. Worth a visit!

I did the Brewery tour which was good. The tour guide knew his stuff. I also opted to eat there. Upon the bartenders recommendation I had the French Dip. Good sandwich along with fresh cut fries. I had to ask for a napkin which I thought should been a given for a messy sandwich. On my last bite I pulled out a 6 inch piece of hair. (my hair is about a quarter inch long) This was of course an accident but I believe that if an establishment does not now about problems they can't be proactive. I told the bartender about the hair. The manager came out and apologized for the hair and told me that she comped my sandwich even after I told her it was not necessary. I would visit them again. Great atmosphere, knowledgeable staff and great Beers!

I like to come here when the weather isn't so hot. It is outdoors mostly unless you get a seat inside at the restaurant. You basically buy tokens here which gets you a free glass and three tokens. One token is for a premium beer and the other two are standard beers. Outside is where it's happening, usually an expensive food truck is outside and there is lots of people and dog watching. The restaurant is good, very good, and the prices are eh, not great but the food is good. Parking is fairly tricky though. If you don't get lucky and find a spot in one of the parking lots you will be parking in the street. It's not exactly a great area esp at night. Overall it's a great place to visit and hang out with friends or in a group. Solo, meh I wouldnt do it unless you have a cute dog because you're going to be standing around by yourself or sitting at a table with other people you don't know. There is no bar outside.

Good selection of food, both from the restaurant and food trucks. You can eat indoors and avoid the summer heat, if the weather is nice the large outdoor patio. Music when I have been in attendance ranged from blues to country.

Inside Karbach Brewing's 50,000 annual barrels of brew

KTRK logo

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- What began five years ago as a small local micro-brewery has today become the second-fastest growing craft brewery in America -- and it's right here in Houston!

Named for its location on Karbach Street in Houston's Spring Branch neighborhood, Karbach Brewing Company is not only famous for its beer, but also its brew burgers, outdoor Biergarten, and warehouse tours -- where more than 50,000 barrels of brew is produced a year.

With wall-to-wall windows linking the restaurant to the warehouse, customers can see the actual brewing process firsthand.

"After the barely, wheat, hops and water are combined," explains Marketing Manager David Graham, "the beer is fermented and then put into used spirit barrels to help draw out the flavor even more. "

The aged barrels are also incorporated into the interior design, as furnishings in the bar area.

"At the end of the day, it's all about the beer," adds Graham. "And beer is fun. We try to make sure fun shows in everything we do."
