Our Family Mountain Madrisa in Summer
Madrisa has a lot to offer in summer as well: Especially Madrisa Land and the treehouse hotel attract many families during summer season. Combined with a visit to one of the many themed trails, you will experience unforgettable summer moments on Madrisa. There’s a lot to discover – you’ll see!
Summer activities
Family experiences on the mountain, madrisa land, tree houses.
In summer Madrisa offers a wide range of hiking and themed trails . With varying duration and various levels of difficulty, the tours are suitable for hiking fans of all ages.
Our tip: Madrisa Circuit Tour The tour through two countries cannot only be done in winter on skis but also in summer on foot. The cross-border hiking route starts on Madrisa and takes you along the old smugglers' trail to Gargellen and back to St. Antönien. In summer, the hike can be completed in several stages over the course of two or three days – including one or two overnight stays. Let's follow in the tracks of the smugglers!
The playground paradise – full of fun and action: That's what you'll find on Madrisa in summer. Among the highlights of Madrisa Land are the new marble run, climbing tower, several slides, numerous water games and the small flying fox. And there’s a lot to discover besides those as well! Madrisa Land is the perfect destination for an excursion – combined with a picnic at the barbecue site or a cosy lunch at Madrisa-Alp.
Have you ever slept in a tree house? No? Then it's about time! On Madrisa, you can choose from several tree houses for up to six people, tipis, or sleeping places in the hay. By the way: Breakfast is included for all overnight stays!
Our family mountain Madrisa in Winter
Madrisa is popular with families – and especially with kids. As Klosters' landmark mountain, Madrisa offers a lot of variety both in winter and in summer.
In winter , there are practice areas for children, an 8.5-kilometre sledging run to Saas, and several winter hiking trails for family members of all ages. The resort also has four practice lifts for children where the little ones can have fun while Mum and Dad enjoy their time on 31 kilometres of slopes.
Winter activities
In the mountains of klosters, skiing for and with children.
- Skiing with handicap
- Schneeschuh
Madrisa has a lot to offer for little skiing beginners: A race with friends will make your kids’ hearts beat faster. They can have a great time on four diverse practice lifts and slopes in different lengths. And the fun runs, the race track or the children's cross hold even more adventures in store.
You can be sure that your itty-bitty ones are well taken care of in Madrisa Land. On “fun riders”, they can practice their first turns in the snow. And the best part: It’s easy and enjoyable!
Skiing for people with special needs
Madrisa is perfect for people who love winter sports but who require a modified infrastructure. The mountain has specialised in the needs of guests with disabilities and is constantly optimising its services – to ensure that all winter sports enthusiasts can have fun in the snow.
The cable car and mountain restaurant are wheelchair accessible. The 6-seater Schaffürggli chairlift takes skiers with monoskis up onto the slopes. The automatic closing and opening mechanism of the safety bar as well as the height adjustment when getting on and off the chairlift ensure optimal safety.
On Madrisa, a real highlight is waiting for freeriders! A circuit that connects two countries and takes you into the fantastic mountain world around Klosters – all with only one ticket: As a day tour, the route leads you across Madrisa and Madrisafurgga in the direction of the old smugglers’ trail to Gargellen in Austria. The mountain railway then takes you to the second short ascent and back to the Swiss side with a subsequent descent to St. Antönien. This is the end point of the Madrisa circuit. The post bus then takes you back to Küblis from where you can take the Rhaetian Railway to Klosters.

Madrisa round trip special
Impressive panorama, north-facing descents and plenty of downhill metres
The Madrisa round tour is a magnificent tour in northern Grisons. We can start high up with the cable cars and immediately immerse ourselves in the high mountain world of the Kalkberge mountains in Prättigau. We make a few short ascents on this tour to reach the fantastic north-facing slopes. We take the mountain railway in Gargellen (combined ticket for both ascents: 43.-) up a second time and ascend a second time. From here there is a second, long descent. The round tour takes us past the impressive limestone walls and we will end the tour in St. Antönien. One thing is for sure, we will enjoy magnificent descents with little ascent!

Wegbeschreibung

Freeride tour of the week | Madrisa circuit
Cross-border classic.
'A cross-border and unifying joint effort that documents our long-standing friendship'' this is how the Madrisa circuit is described on the border signs and we don't know exactly whether this refers to our friendship or that of the two countries. However, we did not choose the cross-border route this time, as the avalanche situation does not invite particularly steep adventures. But even so, the tour is worthwhile, especially in such perfect weather! Clouds and wind are forecast for the afternoon and we first do a few off-piste runs in the Madrisa area (Klosters). There is also a tour ticket (one ascent) which includes the Gargellen lifts, but if there is still some time and good snow, then it is worth buying the day ticket despite the hefty price in order to enjoy a few more runs in the Madrisa area. At the station, you are asked to fill in the obligatory tour forms. We then recoup the proud ticket prices later over a delicious lunch at the Schafberghüsli in Gargellen. There is a lot of discussion all day about whether the Madrisa circuit is cheaper to do from Austria or Switzerland!
Tour description
No matter where you start the tour, you should finish at the starting point, otherwise it doesn't officially count as a Madrisa tour! As mentioned, we started in the Madrisa area and after the rewarding powder turns, we got ready for the ascent to the Schlappiner Joch in the late morning. We start at just under 2100 m and the 100 m up to the pass pass by quickly. In tricky conditions, you should pay attention to the steep slopes below the Madrisa and not spend too long on the traverse. A worthwhile extension of the tour is the ascent to the Schlappiner Spitze, which we skip due to the avalanche situation. In addition, it is already quite uncomfortable here at the Joch and we only quickly tear the skins off our skis in the strong wind and packed snow to then enjoy the 400 m down into the Valzifenztal. This slope is also not without danger, but can be skied quite safely. Then comes the highlight of the tour: you have to push or skate up to the piste at an altitude of approx. 1700 m with little gradient. However, we all agree that the turns beforehand were still well worth it.
Now comes the leisurely part: take the gondola up to the Schafberghüsli for lunch! Don't miss out on the delicious smuggler's pan (how do they know???) or a full-fledged Leberkäs with fries. Not to mention the delicious dessert (nougat dumplings with vanilla ice cream are highly recommended!) You'll probably feel like us: What, so late already? We still have to get up to the St. Antönier Joch! So off we go in the lift, down into the Tälli and with skins towards the Joch (2379 m). The almost 300 m climb takes a little longer than usual - probably because of the strong headwind and not because of the nougat dumplings. Even at the next border crossing at the top of the St. Antönier Joch, we don't have to expect long check-in queues; fortunately, because a strong wind is blowing here too and we are happy to get on quickly. That's why we turn down the extension offer with a short ascent to Riedchopf and head straight down to St. Antönien. Of course, you should allow time for the obligatory Calanda in the café opposite the bus stop before getting on the bus to Küblis, from where you can take the train back to Klosters.
Always worthwhile and if you haven't done the Madrisa circuit yet, you should do it as soon as possible before the borders to Switzerland are closed again! After doing the math, we think that the Marisa circuit is cheaper from Austria to Switzerland. But only if you smuggle the smuggler's pan across the border yourself! Two more important tips: In spring and at weekends, you should expect long queues at the border crossings! And, with the new timetable, the bus to train stop in Küblis is no longer long enough to run to the kiosk and get some food!
