• If cancellations are made 15 days before the start date of the trip, 25% of total tour cost will be charged as cancellation fees
• If cancellations are made 7-15 days before the start date of the trip, 50% of total tour cost will be charged as cancellation fees.
• If cancellations are made within 0-7 days before the start date of the trip, 100% of total tour cost will be charged as cancellation fees.
• In case of unforeseen weather conditions or government restrictions, certain trips or activities may get cancelled. In such cases operator will try their best to provide an alternate feasible. However a cash refund will not be applicable for the same.
• Cancellations are strictly subjected to cancellation policies mentioned on the website & are irrespective of the date of booking.

Passangers are required to wear life jacket at all times onboard and must be seated until the boat has come to a complete stop at the jetty.

Keep your belongings inside waterproof bag/plastic bags as you might get wet during the boat ride.

The boat ride may be bumpy depending on weather and sea condition.

After commencement of tour service there will be no refund in part or full, will be made for unused service/activity.

Guests intending on participating in diving activities must ensure your insurance covers you for SCUBA related activities and has appropriate ‘depth’ coverage.

MENGALUM ISLAND

Pick up at 0715hrs from your hotel lobby and take approximately 15 minutes drive to Marina Jetty. Hop on for a 70 minutes boat ride to reach the island (depends on the sea condition).

Once you notice the changes of seawater from navy blue to crystal clear aqua blue, you are almost there! Upon arrival, take a short walk to the restaurant area and unload your belongings. Gear up for snorkeling session, you will be transfer to the first boat snorkeling at house reef and get ready to discover the underwater world. Safety briefing will be given prior the activity commence. Then, continue with second boat snorkeling session or simply swim around the house reef. Return back to the island for buffet lunch.

After lunch, you can have a nap on the beach or simply walk around the beautiful island. Free at own leisure before return to the mainland.

Mengalum Island Sabah

• The Mengalum is 56 km away from Kota Kinabalu, and the donut shaped island is so remote that no other island is on sight.
• Officially opened in 2010, the Mengalum only has 1 resort and most tours to the island is conducted on a day trip basis.
• The remoteness means that the Mengalum has no visitor facilities like jetty or toilets – hence why it is not heavily promoted to tourists.
• The island has 2 snorkelling spots a few hundred meters away from the beach, where water is less than 5 meter deep.
• The island has a metal anchor, believed to be more than 200 years old located in the jungle, 10 minutes away from the beach area.

MENGALUM ISLAND

Mengalum is an island situated between 50-60km from Kota Kinabalu. It is a remote island paradise, a true hidden gem boasting powder-white sand that slopes gently into a stunning shade of turquoise.  The island is well known among anglers as it is a well known deep sea fishing ground and a fishing location for the annual Sabah International Fishing Tournament. The island is 4 SqKm in size (<1,000 acres) and takes about one hour to walk around.

Mengalum is also known as ‘anchor island’ because there is a mysterious anchor being left behind more than a hundred years ago. The large anchor has been one of it’s minor attraction and symbol. There has been a lot of rumours that the anchor was left by one of Ferdinand Magellan’s fleet but it hasn’t been proven.

History Gallery of the Sabah State Museum mentions it: “ In 1854, Captain Edward Belcher of the H.M.S. Saracen mentioned in its logs an anchor lying on the island of Mengalum.  Its origin is unknown. This anchor has long been venerated by the local Suluk island settlers and the Bajau from the Philippines. All kind of offerings are placed on it. While fishermen usually petition for good weather and a bountiful catch, there are those who claim to have powers conferred on them by the anchor to communicate with distant people, even with departed ones.  It’s a wrought iron anchor, a Richard Pering’s improved long-shank anchor, manufactured from about 1819 to 1845.

Clownfishes, butterfly fishes and cleaner fishes and butterfly fishes can often be spotted swimming around the flourishing corals, which are big, intact and in good condition.

Hop on a speedboat and be whisked to away towards a wide spread of Sun, Sand and Sea! Your journey will take approximately 1 Hour.

• Boat journey to the island may not be suitable for individuals suffering from the following ailments: heart or lung conditions, recent surgery, back or spinal surgery, back problems / injury / fracture, arthritis, osteoporosis or other similar spinal and pelvic diseases.
• Pregnant women are also not recommended as boat rides tend to be bumpy depending on sea conditions. If you are suffering from similar issues as mentioned above, kindly consult with your physician before enrolling in this activity.
• Kindly take note that the safekeeping of your belongings at all times is your responsibility. We do not encourage guests to bring along electronic devices, valuables, and important documents.
• Due to the adventurous nature of the tour, children under 5 years of age are not encouraged to participate in the tour.
• The Liability Release Form must be understood and signed by the participant before the tour commences.
• Your belongings may get wet so do bring along waterproof bags to keep your belongings nice and dry!

Kinabula park. The other parts of the trip seemed fun and diverse so I thought that would be a bonus. We never actually went to the park. I booked an English guide and while he did speak English, the rest of the group was Chinese. I was separated from the rest of the group at lunch and sat by myself at a table. The lunch was terrible, I wasn't given any explanation. Just put at a table alone and left there. The tour group is aotutours.com. I have attempted to contact them through Trip Advisor and left 2 messages with no response. I am very disappointed as this was one of the things I was looking forward to doing and we didn't even go to the place that was listed as the main part of the itinerary. We opted to take the MTR from the island to TST to catch it from TST in order to have the longer sail, and it was worth it because 1) the entry into Central from the harbor is so beautiful, and 2) when we dropped off the previous sailing's passengers in Central, it opened up seats in the front and we were able to take more photos during the loading/unloading, even if it meant having to get dropped off in Kowloon again. It was during the political unrest in HK, so tourism was way down, and the boat was not crowded or full at all, there were perhaps 20 people on board. The boat has a seating area in the front (chairs and lounge chairs) and a top deck with large traditional Chinese platform beds set up as deep couches, which is where our crew wanted to be. The music was transy jazzy, and very pleasant. During the winter holiday period and up to Chinese New Year, Hong Kong buildings put on a light show with lots of graphics, and it's a great time to cruise around the harbor - a later sailing offered music sync'd to the lights, and after the cruise, we could see that this would be worth it too, next time! Situated 56 kilometers northwest of Kota Kinabalu--one-and-a-half hours away from Kota Kinabalu via speedboat--is the awe-inspiring Mengalum Island. Once only renowned amongst anglers and deep-sea fishing enthusiasts, Mengalum Island has recently become more popular amongst tourists and holidaymakers thanks to its dreamy tropical beauty.

Fringed by a stretch sparkling white sandy beach and surrounded by the scenic view of crystal clear waters and blue skies looming in the horizon, Mengalum Island is a beach bunny’s paradise! If you’re planning to go there on your next outing, here are the list of things you might enjoy on Mengalum Island:

1. Soak up the sun!

When on a beautiful island with a gorgeous beach and swaying palm trees, put away your cell phone, put on your sunnies, lie back on your beach towel and relax. Just be sure to apply and reapply sunscreen generously!

2. Swim, snorkel & dive

Another must-do activity on Mengalum Island is to take advantage of its warm and beautifully clear waters and go for a swim! With excellent visibility, the waters surrounding Mengalum Island is a snorkeling and scuba diving haven. Keep an eye out for corals in vibrant technicolour and bubbly marine life!

3. Birdwatching

The 232-acre Mengalum Island is a dedicated sanctuary for migratory birds and has been gazetted as a wildlife and conservation area. If you are a birding enthusiast, you will chance upon many species of birds as well as other wildlife gallivanting about on the island.

4. Take a long walk

At 4 kilometers square in size, it takes about an hour for the average person to walk around and explore the island. The island is also home to a giant anchor--a relic which is a two-meter long and situated about 10 minutes’ walk away from the shoreline. Covered in lush greeneries, a walk on Mengalum Island would be a fun and enlightening affair, just don’t forget to drink lots of water while you’re at it!
