Muse announce autumn 2023 UK and Ireland tour

Support comes from nova twins.

By Charlotte Krol

Muse perform live in Bristol in 2019

Muse have shared details of a UK and Ireland headline tour.

The rock trio, who recently wrapped several summer shows including at the Milton Keynes Bowl, will play a string of gigs this September and October as part of their Will of the People world tour.

Muse and Nova Twins will kick off the tour at Dublin’s 3Arena on 27 September before wrapping the shows with two nights at London’s The O2 on 1-2 October.

“DREAM tour!!! Cats out the bag… We’re honoured to support the legendary @muse ❤️‍🔥⚔️❤️‍🔥,” Nova Twins wrote in a Tweet earlier today (26 June).

Tickets go on sale at 9am BST on 7 July here .

Earlier this year, Muse singer and guitarist Matt Bellamy described Muse’s ninth album Will of the People as their “best” record yet .

“We’ve always tried to think outside the box,” Bellamy told  Apple Music 1 . “We’ve never been one particular genre.

“This album goes from metal all the way to pop to my first version to an Adele song… a lot of electronica. It’s like a full…We produced it ourselves. We were analysing everything we’ve done to date. The last song on the album is called ‘We Are Fucking Fucked’. I’m really happy and proud of it. I genuinely think it’s our best album.”

Bellamy also revealed that he let drummer Dominic Howard “take the lead a little bit” on the project.

“That’s why this album’s taken two years. Every decision takes like a week for him to come back to us. Normally I just rush everything. With him he’s really slow, takes his time with every decision. I allowed him to make a lot of decisions about what was good and what wasn’t,” he added.

Elsewhere, Rolling Stone UK said of Nova Twins’ second album, Supernova , which was released last year: “Nova Twins channel their righteous fury into an album that pairs stadium-sized anthems with uncompromising and timely lyrics.”

Reviewing Muse’s gig in The Hague on their current tour, NME said: “If Muse’s current aesthetic of sci-fi revolution feels viscerally contemporary, then that’s because it’s built on one of the greatest stadium rock canons of the century. ‘Madness’: the throb rock  Queen hit that never was. ‘Supermassive Black Hole’: still sounding like the future of rock music 20 years on.

“‘Time Is Running Out’, ‘Plug In Baby’, ‘Starlight’ and the eternal set-closer ‘Knights Of Cydonia’: songs for which most major gig arenas should really take out structural damage insurance. Now this, as support act Royal Blood might say, is rock music.”

Muse at Groupama Stadium, Lyon.

Muse review – sublimely ridiculous rock’n’roll camp

Groupama Stadium, Lyon With pyrotechnics that might tire a pyromaniac and a giant blow-up Satan the Devonian stadium-fillers have lost none of their thrilling pomp

H alfway through Muse’s set, probably the daftest thing that Groupama Stadium has ever seen happens. Frontman Matt Bellamy is wearing shimmering silver while perched at a light-up piano and playing booming horror cliche Toccata and Fugue in D Minor by Bach. Then his band break into You Make Me Feel Like It’s Halloween, replete with a three-storey-tall masked, hooded face behind them, the video screen inside it alternating between Jason Voorhees, Freddy Krueger and other scary movie villains. It’s the most high-budget display of rock’n’roll camp – yet the night will get madder from here.

Outside this near-60,000 crowd, Muse aren’t necessarily the coolest band in the world any more. It was as early as 2007 that the Devon trio ascended to this grandiose level: after megahits from Supermassive Black Hole to Starlight meshed pop-rock drama with calls for revolution just vague enough that both the left and right could rally behind them, they became the first band to sell out the new Wembley Stadium. Since then though, hit-and-miss albums such as last year’s Will of the People have dented what was previously a bulletproof reputation for top-notch anthem-making.

Fortunately, from 2007 to 2023, one thing remains consistent: Muse gigs revel in the sublimely ridiculous. Following You Make Me Feel Like It’s Halloween’s spooky pomp, Bellamy introduces Uprising by playing its synth melody on a Nintendo Power Glove attached to a suit coated in LEDs. We Are Fucking Fucked has its juvenile title complemented by the kind of production a 10-year-old on a sugar rush would mastermind: fire spews from the stage so frequently that it would overstimulate a pyromaniac. Then, finally, the encore of Kill Or Be Killed and Knights of Cydonia is backed by a blow-up bust of Satan so massive that its arms extend beyond the stadium stage.

Sixteen years deep into filling football fields, Muse understand the assignment more than almost every other rock band. More is more and, even after feeding Lyon two hours of overblown theatre, they achieve the meteoric feat of making a 25-song extravaganza feel too short.

Muse announce summer 2023 UK tour

They play four massive outdoor shows

Muse have announced four huge outdoor UK shows for May and June 2023.

The Will Of The People 2023 UK Tour opens at Plymouth Home Park on Saturday 27th May and visits Huddersfield John Smith’s Stadium (Tuesday 20th June) and Glasgow Bellahouston Park (Friday 23rd June) before concluding at Milton Keynes Bowl on Sunday 25th June.

Matt Bellamy, Dominic Howard and Chris Wolstenholme will be joined by very special guests Royal Blood at all dates except Glasgow.

You can listen to Dominic Howard chatting to Jay Lawrence about the tour between 3pm and 4pm today exclusively on Absolute Radio. LISTEN HERE .

Muse UK tour tickets:

Tickets to Muse’s quartet of summer 2023 outdoor shows go on sale from Absolute Radio Tickets at 9am on Friday 26th August 2022 - the same day Muse release their ninth studio album ‘Will of the People.’

Featuring the singles ‘Won’t Stand Down’, ‘Compliance’, ‘Will of the People’ and ‘Kill or Be Killed’, Muse’s hyper-eclectic new record 'Will of the People' is ambitious in musical scope.

Self-produced by Muse, ‘Will of the People’ embraces many weighty themes including the increasing uncertainty and instability in the world.

Muse’s 2023 tour dates are part of the multi-year Will of the People World Tour, which has already seen them play a rapturously received headline slot at Isle of Wight Festival and intimate shows at Exeter Cavern Club London’s Eventim Apollo Hammersmith.

The trio will also headline the Andalucía Big Festival by Mad Cool and Xacobeo Festival in September and they will play a selection of intimate international theatre shows in October before their major dates next year.

Muse’s 2023 UK tour dates:

Plymouth Home Park – Sat 27th

Huddersfield John Smith’s Stadium – Tue 20th

Glasgow Bellahouston Park – Fri 23rd

Milton Keynes The National Bowl – Sun 25th

Royal Blood are special guests in Plymouth, Huddersfield and Milton Keynes only.

The wildest guitars in rock music, including Chris Wolstenholme's Misa Kitara:

Zz top’s spinning fur guitars.

Of course, we couldn't make a feature about outrageous guitars without ZZ Top's iconic Spinning Fur Guitars. Made from real sheepskin, the twirling guitar for Billy Gibbons and bass for the late-great Dusty Hill were both created by Dean Zelinsky of Dean Guitars and they famously first appeared in the music video to 'Legs' in 1983. Billy Gibbons says: "The guitars are attached to our belt buckles. It's a rotary electrical contact and strap mount. A hole is bored in the back of the guitar at the balancing point and the device is mounted there. Oh yeah, you gotta look out for that thing coming back around. Get your head and neck out of the way or else it'll say hello in an unfashionable fashion."

Bill Bailey’s Gary Hutchins Six-Neck Guitar

Comedy legend, esteemed musician and Strictly Come Dancing champion, Bill Bailey, played this six-necked guitar aptly called The Beast as part of his stand-up routine in 2011. An apparent nod to Rick Nielsen's Five Neck, the instrument was created by guitar maker Gary Hutchins, the eponymous founder of Hutchins guitars, and it once went on display at London's Albert and Victoria Museum.

Nigel Tufnel’s Marshall Stack Guitar

It's fitting that legendary Spinal Tap axeman and amp aficionado Nigel Tufnel used to play a glorious Marshall stack guitar. One of only two ever made, the guitar has a Jackson neck and Seymour Duncan pickup, with the bottom stack detachable for quieter studio work. Naturally, all the volume and tone knobs go up to 11. Commenting on why the guitar was his mainstay for many European shows, Tufnel said: "Well, it's got a very Scandinavian look about it, doesn't it?"

Michael Angelo Batio’s Double-Guitar

Famous for his technical prowess and genre-straddling playing style, American heavy metal guitarist Michael Angelo Batio personally invented the Double Guitar - a V-shaped, twin-neck guitar that Batio plays both left and right-handed.

Rick Nielsen’s Five Neck

Cheap Trick's Rick Nielsen with his iconic Five Neck guitar at a concert in 2012. Tired of performing with multiple guitars at concerts, Nielsen joined forces with guitar makers Hamer way back in 1981 to combine all of his guitar playing needs into one glorious instrument. The guitar was created by fusing the bodies of five Hamer Specials together and there have been several incarnations of the Five Neck. Hamer founder Frank Untermeyer said: "Rick's out of his mind, but in a wonderful way."

Steve Vai's Hydra guitar

Taking its name from the track 'Teeth of the Hydra', Steve Vai's new Hydra guitar was built in conjunction with the designers at Hoshino and is based on a "steampunk motif" idea of Vai's. Unveiled in December 2021, the Hydra is billed as a one-bodied, two-headstock-ed, three-neck-ed creature that encompasses, among other things: seven- and 12-string guitars; a four-string bass; sympathetic harp strings; half-fretless necks; single-coil, humbucking, piezo and sustainer pickups; floating and hardtail tremolo bridges; phase splitters; and much more. "It's an incredibly-built machine," Vai comments.

Bo Diddley’s Square Guitar

The blues rock legend made his first square guitar aged 17 as he couldn't afford to buy an electric guitar. He explained to Vintage Guitar in 1997: "(the guitar's) pickup was the part of a Victrola record player where the needle went in. I clamped it to the metal tailpiece to pick up the vibrations." The original guitar was sadly stolen, but in 1958 Gretsch later made a version with DeArmond pickups. Pictured is Bo proudly clutching it in 1959.

John Paul Jones’ Triple Neck Arch-Top Mandolin

The Led Zeppelin multi-instrumentalist's unique Triple Neck Arch-Top Mandolin was created by luthier Andy Manson in the mid-1970s and swiftly became a mainstay of Led Zep concerts. The famous electroacoustic instrument boasts 8-string mandolin, 12-string guitar, and 6-string guitar necks. Manson said decades later: "I designed and made the triple neck and took it to John's house. I said, 'Hi John I thought this might interest you.' He said, 'Wow, yes indeed, I can't wait to see Pagey's face when I walk on stage with this!' It cost £400 and I skipped off down the road feeling like a millionaire."

Prince’s Love Symbol Guitar

Pictured is Prince with a purple Love Symbol guitar in at The Grammy Awards in February 2004 where he performed his anthem 'Purple Rain'. Prince's range of Love Symbol guitars were based on the shape of the unpronounceable symbol he adopted as his moniker in 1993 in an act of rebellion against his record label, Warner Bros.

Steve Vai’s Ibanez Triple-Neck Red Heart Guitar

The virtuoso musician designed his Ibanez custom built triple neck with heart-shaped body guitar in 1988 as he wanted something "eye-catching" for the video to David Lee Roth's 'Just Like Paradise'. Steve Vai himself admits the guitar is "odd" and there have been three incarnations of the instrument – the original Red Heart, a spare called Red Heart II and a Purple Heart. Steve used the latter guitar on the Ultra Zone tour and wrote the song 'Fever Dream' with it.

Pat Metheny’s Pikasso Guitar

Canadian master luthier Linda Manzer created The Pikasso Guitar in 1984 when jazz artist Pat Metheny requested a guitar that had "as many strings as possible." The completely unique resulting instrument has 42 strings arranged in four different string sections.

Gene Simmons’ Axe Bass

Back in 1978, Gene Simmons joined forces with master luthier Steve Carr to create a unique bass guitar shaped like an axe that would suit his on-stage Demon persona perfectly. The resulting weapon-like instrument – aptly entitled The Axe Bass – is a true classic. Now a running trademark for KISS, there have been a number of incarnations of the Axe Bass including the pictured Cort GS-Axe-2 bass guitar Gene is aggressively clutching at the 2010 NAMM Show.

Michael Anthony’s Jack Daniel’s Bass

Michael Anthony's now famous Jack Daniel's Bass was created back in 1983 while Van Halen were working on their musical masterpiece '1984'. Anthony's guitar tech and good friend Kevin 'Dugie' Dugan was charged with creating the bass, which was made with the blessing of Jack Daniel's on one condition – that only three guitars were made. One is on display at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame museum, one is in storage and one is still used by Michael Anthony to this very day.

John Entwistle’s Buzzard Bass

The Ox played the iconic Buzzard Bass for the final 17 years of his career from 1985 to his untimely passing in 2002. Entwistle worked with Hans Peter Wilfer, founder of Warwick basses, on the striking bass and the pair came up with the moniker Buzzard after imbibing numerous drinks at London nightclub Maggie's – neither could remember who first suggested the name. After they picked the name, the headstock was tweaked to resemble the beak of a buzzard.

John Fogerty’s Baseball Bat Guitar

Crafted by Philip Kubicki, John Fogerty named his unique guitar 'Slugger' in homage to the Louisville Slugger baseball bat. Created in 1985 when his album 'Centerfield' came out, Fogerty donated the instrument to the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in 2010. Fogerty said at the time: "That guitar means a lot to me. It's symbolizes two of my great loves, baseball and the guitar. When 'Centerfield' came out, it was after a long break and was such an important album to me on many levels. The lessons of baseball - the hits, the misses, the triumphs, and the losses - were something that I could really relate to in my life. So I got this idea to make a baseball bat guitar and of course, it had to be a Louisville Slugger."

Ian Hunter’s Maltese Cross Guitar

Ian Hunter's Maltese Cross Guitar was designed by American luthier Harvey Thomas in the 1970s. Despite its iconic status, Hunter says the guitar looked good but didn't sound great and he sold it a number of years ago. Def Leppard and Planet Rock's Joe Elliott had two new Maltese Crosses made for Hunter's 70th birthday in 2009 that Hunter says sounded "GREAT!" Hunter says: "There are only two in the world. I think it's really neat that a guitar can look that good AND sound so good. Very cool!! Praise be to Joe!!!"

Bumblefoot’s Vigier Flying Foot guitar

As the name suggests, Bumblefoot's Vigier Flying Foot features a pink foot on the guitar body complete with wings that pop out. Bumblefoot says of his beloved instrument: "Vigier spent 5 months building this guitar by hand - it's truly a masterpiece. Incredible detail on the guitar, down to the toenails. When you bend down the vibrato bar, wings pop out of the sides. They gave me this guitar at the NAMM convention in Los Angeles, January 1998. Plays and sounds the best of all my guitars - it's my main guitar."

George Lynch’s Mom

Influential Lynch Mob and ex-Dokken axeman George Lynch unveiled his skull and bones guitar – affectionately called 'Mom' – in the mid 1980s. Designed and hand-crafted by artist John 'J. Frog' Garcia, the guitar also featured an ESP Guitars decal on the headstock as Lynch was contracted with them at the time.

Andrew WK’s Taco Guitar

Hard partying rocker Andrew WK unveiled a delicious Taco Guitar to mark National Taco Day on 4th October 2017. His second foray into food-themed instruments following his Pizza Guitar a few years earlier, the custom Taco Guitar was created with ESP Guitars. WK said at the time: "I realised that since I had paid tribute to pizza, I now had to pay tribute to tacos in all their glory. I was destined to make a taco shaped guitar. This is proof that if you have the vision, no matter how outlandish or unruly, the team at ESP Guitars can turn it into a beautiful reality. And they only use the highest quality materials and they're truly master craftsmen. Absolutely mind-blowing attention to detail and playability. There's no compromise when it comes to the integrity of the instrument, or the hardness of the party."

Misa Kitara Guitar Shaped MIDI Controller

Not technically a guitar, the Misa Kitara was a short-lived digital MIDI controller and musical instrument that was developed on 2011 and discontinued just two years later. Taking its name from the Finnish word for guitar (kitara), the instrument combined touch buttons for strings and frets with an 8-inch multi-touch screen that creates a variety of sound effects. Muse bassist Chris Wolstenholme can be seen playing a modified Misa Kitara in the video to the band's 2012 song 'Madness.'

Dave Hill’s Super Yob Guitar

Famed for his outrageous costumes and hilarious haircut, it seemed only right that Slade axeman Dave Hill had a unique and eccentric guitar. Created by luthier John Birch in 1973, the Super Yob was styled after a science fiction ray gun and instantly became synonymous with Dave Hill. Guitarist and songwriter Marco Pirroni bought the original Super Yob in the early eighties, but Hill has since had a replica made.

John 5’s Fender Telecaster Lava Lamp Guitar

John 5 has a number of eye-catching guitars in his arsenal, but the Fender Telecaster Lava Lamp Guitar is arguably the standout instrument of the lot. John 5 says: "It's heavy as hell but it's really cool because it lights up on stage… it weighs a ton! It sounds really good. There's anti-freeze in it because when I ship it abroad it might freeze and crack the guitar."

Ginger Wildheart’s Smiley Bones Guitar

Based on The Wildhearts' fearsome logo, this truly phenomenal Smiley Bones Guitar was created in 2015 by Devil & Sons Guitars. Daniel Wallis made the guitar for Ginger Wildheart to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the 'P.H.U.Q.' album as a replacement for the original guitar which came out when the album was released but was later stolen. He explains to Planet Rock: "I sent some images of it to Ginger who loved it but asked if I could make a few changes so it met a perfect spec for him to play live. Instead of making the changes I just made another so there were in fact two that I made. Part of his spec was to have a particular BC Rich neck put on it, which I did, but then he decided that to play it live it would be better with a 24-fret neck, so I made that change too."

Zakk Wylde’s Epiphone Graveyard Disciple guitar

Ozzy Osbourne and Black Label Society axeman Zakk Wylde with one of this Epiphone Graveyard Disciple signature guitars on stage in 2009. Nicknamed the 'Bo Deadly' by Zakk, the Graveyard Disciple comes in a coffin shaped case and features a crucifix on the body and headstock. Nice.

Eric Bloom’s Blue Öyster Cult Logo Guitar

We couldn't do this list without including Eric Bloom's famed guitar shaped like the Blue Öyster Cult logo. The bespoke guitar was created by master luthier Ronaldo at Pastore's Music in Union City, New Jersey. In case you're wondering, the logo was created by Bill Gawlik, the artist behind BOC's first and second album covers, and it's a stylization of the astronomical symbol for the planet Saturn.

Bootsy Collins’ Star-Shaped Space Bass

The flamboyant James Brown and Parliament-Funkadelic bassist's first Star-Shaped Space Bass was created in 1975 by fledgling guitar maker Larry Pless who worked at an accordon shop called Gus Zoppi Music in Warren, Michigan. Since then there have been numerous incarnations of the Star-Shaped Space Bass, including Bootsy's current signature Warwick star basses, but the basic design has stayed the same.

Brian May’s Red Special Guitar

Easily one of the most famous guitars in the history of rock music, Brian May created the Red Special with his dad Harold as a teenager in 1963 as he couldn't afford a Fender, Gibson or Höfner guitar. Designed to intentionally create feedback, the guitar has helped define Brian May's signature sound and he's performed almost exclusively with it throughout Queen's prime in the 1970s and 1980s until this present day.

Todd Rundgren's Veleno Ankh Guitar

Todd Rundgren's aluminium ankh-shaped guitar was created by metal craftsman John Veleno in the early 1970s. Highly regarded for their aesthetic appearance and also distinct playing style, a series of Velono guitars were made for a number of artists. Rundgren loved his so much, he had two made.

The Dean V Dave Mustaine Double Neck Electric Guitar

Dave Mustaine's bespoke double neck guitar, created by Dean, has been one of his main instruments for the past decade. Thanks to its jagged shape and the metal artwork emblazoned on the body, the guitar is an absolute aesthetic triumph – a behemoth of an instrument that suits Megadeth's brutal music perfectly.

Rob Davis’ Heart-Shaped Guitar

Mud guitarist Rob Davis played his famous red heart-shaped guitar during the glam rockers' commercial peak in the 1970s and he still performs with it to this very day. Here he is proudly flaunting the guitar in a promo shoot with Mud almost five decades ago.

Prince’s yellow ‘Cloud’ Guitar

Late music legend Prince had an extensive and highly flamboyant custom guitar collection consisting of more than 100 instruments. Among the standout instruments was Prince's yellow "Cloud" guitar, which sold for $225,000 under the hammer in 2018.

Rick Nielsen’s Uncle Dick

A prolific collector, Rick Nielsen has amassed over 2,000 guitars over the decades. Alongside his trademark Five Neck (also pictured here), arguably the most famous of the bunch is his Hamer 'Uncle Dick' double neck guitar from 1983, which is based on a likeness of himself.

Michael Angelo Batio’s Quad Guitar

As seen in the video to his 2020 song 'Time Traveller', Michael Angelo Batio also invented the Quad-Guitar, which features – you guessed it – two sets of twin-neck V-shaped guitars. Outrageous yet highly impressive!

Lita Ford’s B.C. Rich Monkey Train guitar

The former Runaways rocker unveiled her train-themed B.C. Rich Monkey Train guitar in her 'Playin' With Fire' official video in 1991. Lita told Guitar Afficionado a few years back: "I got into B.C. Rich. I was always over there carving out new ideas and helping to make new stuff. They would make anything I asked them to make."

James Hetfield’s Carl Guitar

In 2018, James Hetfield proudly showed off his unique new guitar – dubbed Carl – to Metallica fans. The rugged instrument is named after 3132 Carlson Boulevard in El Cerrito, California, where Metallica were based during their breakthrough years from 1983 to 1986. The garage was later demolished but James's friend Andy Anderson of the Bay Area thrash group Attitude Adjustment kept eight pieces of wood from the heavy metal landmark and gifted them to him years later. Papa Het then enlisted the services of master custom guitar maker Ken Lawrence to craft him an instrument using those planks of wood. Carl featured on Metallica's WorldWired World Tour where it was used for performances of 'Hardwired… to Self-Destruct' track 'Moth Into Flame.'

Dan Hartman’s Bass Suit

Unfortunately, we've been unable to acquire an image of the late Dan Hartman's Bass Suit but there's no way we can miss it out! The Edgar Winter Group bassist and solo musician paid a reported $5,000 for the suit in 1974 (huge money at the time), which he designed with Los Angeles couturier Bill Witten. Made from a rubbery fabric that featured the instrument in the pelvic pocket, the Bass Suit's controls are on the sleeve attached to an aluminium plate and the guitar neck ends with a crescent moon.

Stig Pederson’s iPhone Bass

Stig Pedersen, bassist/vocalist of Danish rock band D-A-D, has a number of outlandish bass creations that he performs with including a rocket shaped bass, a reverse bass where the head stock and body are swopped around, and a transparent bass. He hit the headlines in 2018 when he unveiled his latest playful creation – a bass shaped like an iPhone.

Muse is an English rock band from Teignmouth in Devon that formed in 1994

It includes frontman, vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist Matt Bellamy, bassist and backing vocalist Christopher Wolstenholme, and drummer Dominic Howard. Muse is known for a unique style of alt-rock, with electronic music leanings and a blend of classical music, which lends to an ethereal, melancholic sound.

Starting in the early ’90s under the original name Gothic Plague, the band toured relentlessly with bands such as Skunk Anansie. The band released its first EPs to a loyal fan base and was met with relative success in the UK indie charts. This earned the group crucial backing from the likes of Steve Lamacq and NME, and its debut studio album Showbiz was released in 1999, scoring relative chart success. The album has since gone on to become a certified platinum album in the UK.

Muse’s second album, released in 2001, revealed a growth in sound and ambition that is still evident in its records today. Origin of Symmetry saw the band shift into progressive rock territory, producing momentous singles like “New Born” and “Bliss.” The album acted as a catalyst that moved Muse into commercial and critical success for years to come. Its next four albums all topped the UK album charts, and the band has sold over 15 million albums worldwide.

In 2003, Muse released its third album, Absolution. This album debuted at number one in the UK, and with time, became certified gold in the US. This album is widely considered the band’s breakthrough album, with key hits such as “Time Is Running Out” and “Hysteria” topping the charts. In support of this album, Muse headed out on a year-long international tour.

In 2006, Muse released its fourth studio album, Black Holes and Revelations. This album debuted at number one on the charts in five countries. From this album, two singles, "Supermassive Black Hole" and "Knights of Cydonia," became chart-toppers, reaching the top 10 hits in the UK.

Muse’s live shows also followed the same ambitious, gargantuan elevation of music. Famed for its tours, the band has won two Brit Awards for Best Live Act, and it sells out arenas and stadiums around the globe with ease. Muse has become a legendary force on the festival circuit, and has headlined Reading and Leeds, T in the Park, and Glastonbury over the years. At Glastonbury Festival 2010, a gigantic crowd to its pyramid stage set up at the latter event in 2010.

Around the same time, Muse’s latest album The Resistance was conquering all corners of the UK. The band then scooped three Grammy nominations and a win for Best Rock Album, which helped it officially break into the US. Its explosion in popularity led to its performance at the opening ceremony of the 2012 Olympic Games in London – and to its single “Survival” becoming the official anthem of the event.

Since its acclaimed Olympic performance, Muse has gone on to produce three more albums. Released in 2015, Drones was an album that aimed to return to the original rock sound for which Muse was originally known, but weaved in a powerful statement on the dehumanization of modern warfare. with the release of Drones, Muse began another tour focused on small venues throughout the UK and theAlong US. Drones an immediate hit, topping charts globally.

After touring the globe, including headlining at major festivals, Muse continued its path forward with another album release in 2018 — Simulation Theory. This kicked off the Simulation Theory World Tour, which took the band all the way from Houston, Texas, to a final stop in Lima, Peru.

At the end of 2019, Muse released a special compilation box titled Origin of Muse. This included remastered versions of its albums and previously unreleased music. This special edition is a dream come true for Muse fans. The box contains a 48-page book, nine CDs, four vinyl records. One of the highlights of the set is a fully-remastered version of the band’s debut album Showbiz.

Most recently, in 2022, Muse released the Will of the People. This album showcases the darker, heavier side of Muse’s music, with singles “Won’t Stand Down” and “Compliance” quickly becoming fan favorites.

Known for its flawless performances, Muse continues to capture the depth of its musical history in every show. Fans, who are often referred to as Musers, flock to see the band perform at large arenas around the world. Most shows sell out, and in order to find a position near the front of the stage, Musers arrive hours ahead of showtime.

Not only does Muse deliver an incredibly dynamic and energetic live show, but its sound production is renowned for being top-quality. Bellamy’s vocals can be heard clearly, along with every accompanying instrument. Recently, touring member Morgan Nicholls was replaced by Dan Lancaster. Lancaster now plays additional keys, percussion, and guitar, as well as providing backup vocals.

To snag tickets to a Muse tour date, make sure to pay attention to recently released tour schedules. Muse’s 2022-2023 “The Will of the People World” Tour reaches far and wide.

Live reviews

Enjoyed the band but not the show. The organizers failed in everything they could fail. Believe me, I've been to a lot of international shows here in Argentina and Chile, and this was the first time ever that I couldn't hear the music some times.

The "Complejo al Río" is in a great zone of Vicente López, really near to buses, subway, and two of the most important avenues (Av. Santa Fe/Cabildo/Maipú and Av. Libertador); so I got there without any troubles and even had some food because there were a lot of places to eat or drink near it.

It all went down when the showtime was getting near: I got in without getting checked, as most people, really dangerous; then, the entrance was full of construction debris (dangerous x2). Once I was in, I realized that the venue was pretty much a cement parking lot with a couple of bleachers, wouldn't be much of a problem if it weren't that: a) there were holes in the floor, so somebody could have get hurt while jumping and; b) it was on downhill, so that meant that in certain areas of the "campo trasero" you couldn't see anything.

When it started, everyone was excited, jumping, but two songs in we realised that we couldn't hear sometimes: the sound came and then go away. You could literally heard people talking over the music! And this wasn't an acoustic show! The low-volume stayed the whole gig, and it ruined songs like Madness that I could literally not hear. Bonus track: Matt confused Argentina with Uruguay and used their flag here. Everyone shouting "NOOO" which meant hearing even less.

Going strictly to the show: the band pulled out a pretty good one, they didn't interacted with the public a lot but considering videos I've seen, that's just how they are. The setlist was the very same of two days ago in Chile, so there's nothing to complain about though we Argentinians are used to the fact that the bands always play more songs here, or change the setlist a bit. Muse was not the case.

I still had a great time and would totally go to see this band again, specially because I feel like I didn't got the full experience. It's too much to know that they never come with the full stages and theatrics to add the fact that they came without speakers.

This was the 3rd concert I have seen Muse at. I have to say as far as concerts go, you won't find one with any more to it than a Muse concert. I have been to many concerts and I love them all. Music made in a studio is never going to capture the real live sound. Music is made to be played live!

The Simulation tour was simply amazing. Visually, audibly and just being there. Having trombones being played, actually played not recorded and being a part of the opening was simply astonishing. It as a great sound and visually it was amazing. The same with Pressure, having the trombones out there added to the song and made it unbelievable.

They also played Dig Down the acoustic gospel version live. With Dom, Matt and Chris playing center of the stadium. Chris on the acoustic guitar, Matt on the piano and Dom obviously on the drums. What a neat set to see them playing so close together and the gospel signers on stage lit up by their costumes. Very well done!

Our son didn't(teenager) didn't understand the Close Encounters of the 3rd kind part. Where Matt was playing the guitar and the mother ship was responding. He is too young. :-) My wife and I got it.

Watching Matt play his guitar by his tong! What? I had never seen anything like it. He is amazing. Chris is just amazing on bass and Dom on drums. These guys can do it all!

What a fun show. I really appreciate what Muse has done to give back to their fan's. Too many bands don't care as long as they sell their tickets. Muse doesn't appear to be like that. Even purchasing tickets, they allow the true fans to purchase first getting the best seats.

I look forward to seeing them again! Great show, great music, and a great time. Playing for almost 2 hours. Great job Muse!

Over the course of two decades, Muse’s live show has evolved into one of the most sensational spectacles in the world - an experience worthy of four (!) live DVDs churned out since the release of Hullabaloo in 2001.

From humble beginnings touring the UK dive bar circuit, the band’s intellectual prog-rock quickly earned them the heavy burden of ‘the next Radiohead’: a stigma brushed aside, and a prophecy fulfilled.

The band’s trajectory to international stardom was driven in the early noughties by huge success around ‘Origin Of Symmetry’ and ‘Absolution’; a pair of records that delivered sold out arena shows across the globe.

From that point on, Muse poured everything into their live show. From huge satellite dishes beaming light into the sky to monumental, rotating pillars, each tour delivers something totally unexpected, and utterly jawdropping. And that’s prior to any mention of the crazy, crazy talent exhibited on stage. Matt Bellamy, one of the few true rockstars of the modern age, thrashes and strokes at his guitar in equal measure, and delivers stunning falsetto vocals. Though the band have recruited extra, ‘behind-the-scenes’ members over recent years, the amount of noise produced by the three piece remains astounding.

With Glastonbury and Coachella headline slots - and just about everything other accolade - under their belts, where now for Muse? Somehow, the only way, still, is up. And it’s guaranteed to be totally bombastic.

Since their incarnation in 1994, the Devon trio has evolved from a garage rock band into a momentous live act that has conquered the largest stages and festivals all around the planet with their space-themed apoco-pop rock. The band has six albums in its discography, which was not seem like very much for an artist that has reached a reputation as saintly as Muse, yet it is what Matt Bellamy and co transform their music into onstage which continues to wow audiences.

As the bass rumbles and begins 'Supremacy', the band appear all at once surrounded by fire and pyrotechnics as they wage some solar war all within their own minds. As they run through their hits such as 'Supermassive Black Hole' and 'Starlight' at blistering speeds, the audience have no choice to watch on in blind amazement. Matt Bellamy is a frontman often likened to the late, great Freddie Mercury and after seeing him perform you realise there is serious weight behind these lofty claims.

No matter how big his crowd, Matt throws himself into every blistering guitar solo and whips crowds into frenzies like no other. When the finale of 'Knights Of Cydonia' kicks in, the audience has completely surrendered itself to the supernatural, surreal world of Muse and simply hope they will never return.

Santiago de Chile - October 13th

The first good surprise was with the opening band, Kaiser Chiefs. The show was short but a very good one! The singer, Ricky Wilson, is very charismatic and an excellent dancer!

About Muse - Tour Simulation Theory:

the sound was very good, the instruments were heard in good frequency and also the voices.

The band has a strong connection on stage and a great dynamic between them.

The setlist was very well chosen, mixing successful songs from previous albums, like Hysteria, Supermassive and Starlight; and new album hits like: Algorithm, Propaganda and Thought Contagion.

The songs were similar to other shows that they played on this tour in all Latin America, but they surprised Santiago with the song Bliss (not in other setlists).

Lead singer Matt sings very well live can make different tones of voice, is incredible, just like the albums!

In addition, the lighting games and dancers who were on the stage during the show further contributed to the whole presentation.

The show finished with Knights of Cydonia and made everyone very happy!

A great night! Thank you Muse!

I had seen Muse a few times at various festivals over the years (Reading twice, V Festival, Download) and wanted to see them in their own show and I thought what better place than to do that than at Londons O2 Arena.

Muse played for 2 hours with a faultless performance. Belting out classics such as Plug In Baby, Stockholm Syndrome and completing the evening with the infectious Knights Of Cydonia as well as promoting songs from the current Drones album.

My only regret of the evening was having to be upstairs on Level 4 for this concert. People standing in the Floor areas and Level 1 seem to be able to let loose and enjoy themselves but upstairs really didn't know how to behave at a rock concert with he majority remaining seated and I was even asked to sit down by the person behind me. Unfortunately the big arenas can bring out the punters who aren't used to what a rock concert can be about but i'll balance this comment by saying that I should have been downstairs if I really wanted to rock out.

Great performance by band, disappointed with the crowd as a whole.

We came in from Houston to see Muse in Austin. I've had to miss their TX shows in the past because I didnt have the money or time, but this year I said fuck it, I'm going to this show and I wont miss them again. It was so worth it. They sounded amazing, the whole band are great performers. They posted the whole concert on facebook so I thought that was cool. I can watch it again if I want. So, so worth it. The stage was really cool with these stacks of video monitors in the back and they were staggered. It's hard to describe, but it looked really good. The only complaint I had was that I bought an actual seat but everyone stood the whole time, so it was kind of pointless, but I'm glad I had something to lean on if I got too tired. It was kind of hard to see the band on stage because people were in the way, but I'm sort of short so...oh well. It was a very minor complaint and nothing against Muse. If (I should say WHEN) I see them again, I'll try to get a seat on the rail with no one in front of me, but you know how it goes.

An impressive start with "Psycho" brought all the energy to the Olympia-halle without any warming up. The setlist was loaded with the tracks of their latest Best-Rock-Album-Grammy winner, "Drones", but also included some classics as "Plug In Baby", "Stockholm Syndrome", and an amazing performance of "Citizen Erased", a song from "Origin of Symmetry" rarely played in the latest years shows.

The stage in itself deserves recognition as it was meant to rotate, while holding a structure from where around ten drones came into the show flashing and wandering around some meters over the crowd. In addition, a series of interactive projections were prepared in accordance to every song lyrics.

Bellamy asked people to help on singing the already classic "Time Is Running Out", as well as "Starlight" and the whole chorus for "Uprising".

A great show that clarifies why they are one of the best live bands at the moment.

There is a reason these guys play in big arenas. It’s not just a few guys on a stage playing their music, it’s a production. Even up in the nosebleeds it was a great show.

Spoiler alert! Don’t read any further if you don’t want to know.

Had it all! Glowing glasses, lit up suits, giant robots, a piano that shoots lasers, dancers with flashlights, smoke machines and glowing batons, and a special appearance by Eddie! People hanging from wires, surprises coming up from trap doors, lasers, lasers and more lasers! The set was a blistering 26 songs lasting a little over two hours!

I will definitely see them again the next time they come to town. Though not from the balcony. They say “Don’t look down if you have a thing about heights.” That’s where the stage is!

Great show.

Saw them in Milan 20/5. I've been attending concerts for more than 10 years now and this gig goes into my top 5!! The show, the energy, the sound (!!) was amazing! I was blown away by Matt's voice, so clear and beautiful, Chris's dexterity with the bass (for me the second best bass player ever) and Dominic's drum solos. I loved the round stage in the center of the arena, you can really see them well from wherever you are standing/seating. I really wish more bands could afford this kind of technology, oh well... And the video projections, especially the puppeteering part during The Handler... genious and scary! The setlist included almost all the songs I wanted to hear live (I only missed Stockholm Syndrome and Bliss). All in all, kudos to the guys, really, I hope too see them again very soon.

Guitar hero Gary Clark Jr.’s tour-opening Fort Worth show highlights evolving musical muse

  • Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below

Gary Clark Jr. kicked off his latest tour Wednesday night at Will Rogers Auditorium in front of an appreciative, if laid back, audience.

The 24-stop North American tour, which concludes with the Bonnaroo Festival in Tennessee on June 14, is in support of “JPEG Raw ,” released on March 22. It’s the Austin guitar slinger ’s fourth studio album and first since 2019’s “This Land.” He’ll play 10 European dates in July before resuming the North American tour on July 19 in St. Paul, Minn.

About 2,500 fans mostly filled up the 2,800-seat auditorium, which included a surprisingly wide range of ages and a heartwarming mix of ethnicities.

That is undoubtedly attributable to Clark’s image, which, for one fan, could be the rock guitar virtuoso ; for another, the greasy-smooth, blues-based riff-master. Or, for others, the frontman crooner whose voice at times channels Marvin Gaye’s aching falsetto or B.B. King’s anguished howls.

All that was on display during his nearly two-hour set that began with a pulsating rendition of “Maktub,” the opening track on “ JPEG Raw .” Of the 14-song set, nine came from his latest release.

Although this was the first night of Clark’s tour, the five-piece band is fresh off opening for the Rolling Stones’ tour-opening show on April 28 at NRG Stadium in Houston. They sounded like they were already two weeks into the tour — tight as a snare drum.

Clark, 40, plays the Majestic Theater in Dallas on Thursday and the Choctaw Grand Theater in Durant, Okla., on Saturday.

The “JPEG Raw” title track showed off Clark’s rhyme-spitting chops and a swinging jazz-fused piano solo from pianist and keyboardist Jon Deas. Clark’s searing guitar contrasted elegantly with the repeated chorus from his background singers during the crescendo of “This Is Who We Are.”

Clark addressed the elephant in the room after a soaring version of “The Healing” from his 2015 release, “The Story of Sonny Boy Slim.”

“I don’t know, what’s the rule here? Do y’all have to stay seated, or what,” Clark asked the mostly sitting audience after his sixth tune of the night. “Because if you want to shake some ass, I’m pretty sure this is the one to do it to.”

The audience stood and roared its approval.

“Let’s get funky one time in Funkytown,” Clark said as the band tore into “Feed the Babies,” which features Clark’s best Prince falsetto singing, a funk-filled keyboard solo from Deas, and an on-point bluesy solo from Clark, all expertly supported by a flawless rhythm section led by drummer JJ Johnson, bassist Elijah Ford, and rhythm guitarist King Zapata. The band was so tight the whole night that it hardly felt like the opening night of their tour. “Feed the Babies,” especially, seemed to surprise even Clark, who gave a shoutout of respect to his band at the song’s conclusion.

“To the End of the Earth,” a short ode to a lover, featured only Clark’s Spanish guitar-flavored flourishes and his velvety smooth vocal that conjured Harry Connick Jr.

It is a highlight on the new record and was a highlight live and could easily be expanded into something bigger. Perhaps its power, however, lies in its brevity. It showcases Clark’s underrated — or at least under-celebrated — voice. He seemingly can sing in a myriad of styles and nail them all.

Perhaps a function of the material from “JPEG Raw,” which is primarily mid-tempo blues fusion and jazz-infused R&B-style cuts, some urgency in his guitar work was lacking. That’s probably not something Clark is concerned about, however. He’s following his muse, and his muse is a joyous exploration of the endless colors found in all types of musical inspiration.

Clark opened his three-song encore with a cover of Texas guitar legend Albert Collin’s classic, “If Trouble Was Money.” He introduced the song by saying, “This is in case you forgot where I came from.” We didn’t.

It featured the effortless blues stylings that got Clark noticed nationally more than 15 years ago.

“What About the Children,” the “JPEG Raw” song he co-wrote with legend Stevie Wonder, featured Clark doing a spot-on Wonder vocal like it was a lost track from one of Wonder’s classic early 1970s masterpieces.

For the night’s finale, Clark invited his opening act, Abraham Alexander, a 31-year-old newcomer who immigrated to Fort Worth at age 11, to join him on stage to help sing “Pearl Cadillac” from “This Land.” Clark met Alexander by chance while recording with Leon Bridges in Fort Worth years ago. Clark expressed his dismay to learn that the kid he had met, desperate to make it in the music business, had pulled off the unthinkable. It was another example of the power of music during a night filled with them.

Travis Scott UK tour: Dates, how to get tickets and if there’s a pre-sale

A merican rapper Travis Scott is set to host his largest UK headline show to date this summer as part of a 14-stop continuation of his Utopia: Circus Maximus Tour across Britain and mainland Europe.

Scott is set to perform at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and Manchester’s £365m Co-op Live venue in July which follows a sold-out tour of North America last year off the back of the artist’s record-breaking No 1 album UTOPIA .

The critically-acclaimed album was last year’s biggest-selling hip-hop release, pulling in 50 billion streams globally as well as the titles of most streamed album in its first week on Spotify in 2023 and most streamed album on its first day on Apple Music in 2023.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Utopia – Circus Maximus World Tour , including dates of the UK gigs and other stops and where and when to buy general and pre-sale tickets.

When is Travis Scott playing in the UK?

The first of Scott’s two newly-announced UK gigs is on Thursday 11 July at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.

This is to be followed two nights later by a show at the problem-plagued Co-op Live venue in Manchester , which is scheduled for Saturday 13 July.

The Astroworld artist kicks off his European tour at the Gelre Dome in Arnhem in the Netherlands on 28 June before taking to various stages in Poland (Krakow; 2 July), Switzerland (Zurich; 4 July), France (Nice; 6 July), Austria (Vienna; 7 July) and Belgium (Antwerp; 8 July) ahead of his two stops on British soil.

He then returns to the continent to finish up the tour, performing in Romania (Constinesti; 14 July), Czechia (Prague; 18 July) and Italy (Milan; 23 July) in between stops in the German cities of Hamburg (16 July), Cologne (20 July) and Frankfurt (27 July).

The news of the new tour comes as the start of the first civil trial stemming from Scott’s 2021 Astroworld festival in Houston – at which 10 people were killed in a crowd surge – has been delayed .

Jury selection had previously been set to begin Tuesday 7 May in the wrongful-death lawsuit filed by the family of Madison Dubiski, a 23-year-old Houston resident who was killed during the crowd crush at Scott’s November 2021 concert.

When do tickets go on sale?

Tickets go on general sale from 10am on Friday 10 May.

Links to purchase them for each of the tour’s 12 new stops can be found at travisscott.com .

Eurovision semi-final 1: Time, odds, how to watch and full running order

The official link to tickets (as re-directed from Scott’s website) for the London show can be found here , and for Manchester here .

One euro or pound from every ticket sold will reportedly go to Scott’s Cactus Jack Foundation , a 501(c)3 (non-profit organisation) with a mission to uplift the youth from Houston (the capital of Scott’s home state, Texas) through toy drives, scholarship programmes to students at historically black colleges and universities and fulfilling expenses for education and creative endeavours.

Is there a pre-sale?

You can register in advance for early access – pre-sale – tickets to both UK concerts.

Meanwhile, a press release from Tottenham Hotspur says that Spurs season ticket holders and One Hotspur Members “will be given priority access to tickets” for the London show “with an exclusive pre-sale”.

Pre-sale tickets are set to go live at 10am on Thursday 9 May, a day before general tickets are made available for purchase.
