Nachdem wir beim letzten Besuch von Nada Surf "Let Go"-Jubiläum feiern durften waren die Erwartungen hoch. Leider wurden sie nicht erfüllt. Die Musik war unheimlich laut und wurde auch auf eine Anfrage des Personals von der Theke nicht leiser gedreht ("Die Band wolle es so..."). Die Stimme vom Sänger Matthew Caws kam dadurch leider nicht richtig zur Geltung. Auch litt die Qualität unter einer m.E. seltsamen Musikauswahl. Wer ein "best of" erwartet hatte wurde enttäuscht.

Das Konzept der LET GO-Jubiläumstour ist so simpel wie genial: Nada Surf spielen im ersten Teil das komplette Album LET GO und nach einer Pause ein Best-of-Set der anderen Alben. Ein kurzweiliges Erlebnis voller Energie und Emotionen und eine absolut bodenständige Band. Jederzeit wieder!

Vor 12 Jahren habe ich mein erstes Nada Surf Konzert in Berlin besucht. Seitdem bin ich ein treuer Fan der Band und nehme jedes Konzert in meiner Umgebung mit. Mit ihrer tollen Musik, freundlichen Art und Zuschauernähe begeistern mich die Jungs immer wieder aufs neue.

Wednesday 18h April. Tufnell Park Dome. London, Nada Surf. After seeing Nada Surf fifteen years ago on the Let Go tour it only seems right that we do all over again on its fifteenth anniversary show.

It’s a hot and sweaty night in north London at a sold out Dome. The addition of a reasonably priced IPA at the bar since the last time I visited is just what the doctor ordered to try and break the heat.

There are no surprises in the first set as it’s a complete in sequence rendition of the fantastic ‘Let Go’. One of my favourite, not just power pop, albums of the last fifteen years but of any genre. Not a bad track which is unusual and it’s great to hear it played live again. Highlights, difficult but if I have to choose, the back to back of ‘Fruit Fly’ and ‘Blonde on Blonde’ nail it.

Nada Surf are a band comfortable in their own skin and the usual three piece are augmented with keys tonight. With the superb Matthew Caws on lead and vocals, Daniel Lorca slinking around on bass with the obligatory cigarette dangling from his mouth and the metronomic beast that’s Ira Elliot on the biggest drum kit outside of a metal band they turn their hand from acapella, power pop, acoustic and full on rock and even French.

After a short break the band return for a greatest hits set heavily drawing from ‘The Proximity Effect’ and ‘The Weight is a Gift’. And what a start ‘Imaginary Friends’ and ‘Teenage Dreams’ set the tone for another hour of the finest power pop. I think Nada Surf are the closest American band to our own Teenage Fanclub and if there was a criticism tonight it was the backing vocals were a bit low in the mix. It’s a minor quibble though. The main difference I think between the two are that Nada Surf can really rock out when they want to especially on ‘Dispossession’ and ‘Popular’.

There’s time for a snippet of ‘Love will tear us apart’ during ‘Stalemate’ and some two and half hours after we started we come to an end with ‘Blankest Year’ and crowd are dancing as one huge hot sweaty mass.

A fantastic, sweaty, thrilling and a little bit nostalgic night of thoroughly music and ‘till the next time keep on rockin’ y’all

What can you say? They always deliver a fun, engaging and energetic evening. I think they can feel the love from the audience and it shows in their performance and interaction with the crowd.

This was the 3 time I saw Nada Surf Live (Lisbon 1997, Berlin 2002 and now). The concert was divided into several parts. At the first part with the old slow songs. Was interesting because I knew all of them but for a rock band was boring. The second with new songs and the last with the most popular fast songs. This was a teenager band from the 90's so the average age of the people watching was 40 or more but the spirit was still from the 20's. I liked the interaction with the public and the fact that they are still playing in the same way. The show was really good and made me remember really good moments of my life. They are great performers and I hope they stay around for more time.

Deutschland Tour 2023: 14 Tour-de-France-Teams dabei

Am 23. August beginnt das Etappenrennen mit einem Prolog im Saarland. Auf deutscher Seite steigen dann unter anderem auch Nils Politt, Maximilian Schachmann, Pascal Ackermann und Phil Bauhaus auf das Rad. Auch der in diesem Jahr knapp am Etappensieg bei der Frankreich-Rundfahrt gescheiterte Georg Zimmermann plant seine Teilnahme. Laut Veranstalter gehen 14 Teams an den Start, die auch bei der Tour de France teilgenommen haben. 20 Mannschaften planen insgesamt ihre Teilnahme.

Vorläufige Startliste der Deutschland Tour

Die Liste der 120 Starter ist noch vorläufig. Alle Teams können ihr Aufgebot noch bis zum Beginn anpassen. Das fünftägige Rennen, das mit einem Prolog in St. Wendel startet und in Bremen endet, wird vom 23. bis 27. August ausgetragen. Im vergangenen Jahr sicherte sich der britische Profi Yates den Gesamtsieg, den er in diesem Jahr verteidigen will.

Es liegen 14 Tage, knapp 4000km, 43 Surfboards von 9 Herstellern, einige kühle Bierchen und tolle Bekanntschaften hinter uns. An insgesamt 6 Stopps konnten Surfer:innen die neuesten Surfboards von Buster Surfboards ,  Kanoa Surfboards ,  NOA Surfboards , Rivver Surfboards ,  Lib Tech ,  Delight Alliance,   Cabianca,   Firewire  und  RIOT testen bis ihnen die Fußsohlen brannten!

Das tägliche an- und abschrauben der rund 120 Finnen und die durchschnittlich 200 Verleihvorgänge pro Stopp wurden uns durch den super Vibe und die tatkräftige Unterstützung Crews an den Wellen versüßt!
