Purchase the official guide at any brewery in town and begin your mission to try them all. Each brewery will stamp their designated page upon your visit, just like a passport. Also includes the history of each brewery, amenities, and room for notes.

Where can I purchase a Pittsburgh Brewery Guide?

The Pittsburgh Brewery Guide can be purchased at any Pittsburgh Brewers Guild member brewery. We do our very best to keep them in stock. If you are having difficulty obtaining a guide, please email [email protected]

How much does the guide cost?

The Pittsburgh Brewery Guide is $10.

How old do I need to be to participate?

Participants must be 21 years old to participate in the Pittsburgh Brewery Guide and receive stamps. However, many of our breweries are family friendly and welcome children of all ages.

How do I get my Pittsburgh Brewery Guide stamped?


To receive a stamp, simply show your guide to a bartender at any participating brewery. You receive one stamp per brewery.

How many breweries are featured in the third edition of the Pittsburgh Brewery Guide?

This version includes 44 breweries, including many that have opened in the two years since the previous version was released.

What prizes can I win?

Do I get to keep my guide once it’s complete?

Yes, the guide is yours to keep! Once you’ve collected all stamps and obtain your prize, we encourage you to keep your passport and showcase what a cultured beer drinker you are.

Does the Pittsburgh Brewery Guide expire?

The first, second and third edition of the passport does not expire. See your passport for prize eligibility. The first edition is eligible for the glass prize at 30 breweries visited. The second edition is eligible for the three prize levels. The third edition is eligible for four prize levels. 

Stamps must be earned on each individual Guide, meaning you cannot earn a prize for 10 breweries visited if you have five stamps on a the second edition of the Guide and five stamps on the third edition of the Guide.

Am I eligible for the 40 breweries visited prize if I have the second edition of the Guide?

Unfortunately, no. Each version of the Guide has a distinct prize structure, so to earn a prize for visiting 40 breweries you must have the third edition of the Guide.

How are the participating breweries selected?

Each participating brewery is a member of the Pittsburgh Brewers Guild. In order to join the guild, each brewery pays financial dues and produces beer in Allegheny County. More breweries are expected to join the guild in the future, and we plan to add them to future editions of the guide.

What happens if my Pittsburgh Brewery Guide is lost or stolen?

While we certainly hope that doesn’t happen, there is unfortunately no way we could help due to a limited number of printed guides.

I forgot to bring my Pittsburgh Brewery Guide while visiting one of the participating breweries. Am I still able to get a stamp?

Yes. Keep the receipt from your purchase and go back to the brewery to get the stamp.

6 Brewery and Distillery Tours to Take in Pittsburgh

You already know that you love our local breweries and distilleries, so why not learn a little more about them?

Below, you’ll find six Pittsburgh alcohol producers that offer behind-the-scenes tours every weekend. And, just for fun, we’ve even included an extra-special haunted brewery tour that you won’t want to miss this October.

East End Brewing: Grains to Glass Brewery Tour

EEBC hosts their “Grains to Glass Brewery Tour” twice a month at their brewery in Larimer.

For $25 per person, guests receive four samplings of current East End Beers, a tour of the facilities, information on how beer starts at grains and ends in your glass (with a chance to taste the ingredients), and a free growler full of the beer of your choice

The entire tour and tasting lasts about an hour, but guests are welcome to linger afterwards. Tickets can be purchased online .

Maggie’s Farm Rum Distillery Tours

Pittsburgh’s local rum distiller (which has been getting a lot of national acclaim ) runs tours of their distillery every Saturday afternoon.

These tours walk guests through the history of rum. Guests will learn about the specific processes of rum production, and get an upfront look at Maggie’s fermentation and distillation equipment.  The tour runs approximately 60-90 minutes, and includes a tasting of each of the rums and rum liqueurs that Maggie’s makes.

If you want to arrive and grab a cocktail, you’ll be permitted to bring it on the tour. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased online .

Boyd & Blair Vodka Distillery Tours

Located just up Route 8, and 15 minutes from Downtown Pittsburgh, is the distillery for Boyd & Blair, a Pittsburgh-made potato vodka.

The distillery is open to the public every Saturday from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. for free tours and tastings. Tours are conducted on the half hour, and guests will learn the step-by-step process that the vodka takes from potato to bottle.

Body & Blair often brings in live music and food trucks on Saturdays, so follow their Facebook to see who will be arriving each week.

Boyd & Blair   (1101 William Flynn Hwy., Glenshaw)

Wigle Whiskey Tours

Pittsburgh’s whiskey empire, Wigle Whiskey, offers tours for both their Strip District distillery, and Northside Barrelhouse.

Stop by the distillery on Saturdays (and now some Fridays) for a tour and taste of Wigle. The tour starts with a look at Wigle’s organic, local grain, and an explanation of how they transform it into whiskeys, gins, rums, and vodka.

The tour will also include a telling of the true tale of the Pittsburgh Whiskey Rebellion, one of the country’s quirkiest and most pivotal events.

Tickets include a cocktail, tour of the distillation process, a history of the Whiskey Rebellion, and a seated tasting of straight spirits. The tour lasts one hour and tickets can be purchased online .

Barrelhouse tours occur on Saturdays and Sundays from May through mid-October. Sip on a barrel-aged cocktail and get a sneak peek (and taste) of Wigle’s experimental whiskeys. Tickets are $20 and include the tour, a cocktail, and a tasting of five straight spirits. You can also schedule a private tour at either location, with a group of 12 or more.

Penn Brewery Tours

Head to a Pittsburgh classic, Penn Brewery, at 1:00 p.m. on Saturdays for a behind-the-scenes tour of Penn Brewery’s beer production, led by one of Penn’s brewers.

Founded in 1986, Penn Brewery is one of the grandfathers of Pittsburgh’s craft brewing scene. Additionally, the brewery is located in the old Eberhardt and Ober Brewery building on the Northside, which dates back to the 19th century, so there’s plenty to learn and see on this tour.

Tickets to the tour are $25 and include a 16 oz. beer, and your choice of either a Penn T-shirt or a filled growler.

Haunted Brewery Tour at Rivertowne Brewing

This Halloween season, Rivertowne is making things a little more spooky, and offering haunted brewery tours throughout October. Rumor has it that that the Rivertowne Brewery is haunted, so stop through to see everything up close while “getting your wits scared out of ya.” Tours run on October 6, October 7, October 13, October 14, October 20, October 21, October 27, and October 28  at 7:00 p.m., 8:00 p.m., and 9:00 p.m.

Learn about the process, sample some brews, and “party with all the other ghosts and goblins that frequent the brewery this time of year.”

Rivertowne will also host traditional brewery tours on September 23  at 1:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m., and 3:00 p.m. Call 724-519-2145 to book your spot.

We arrive at the location early, and no one is here. I call, the woman states that they cancelled our reservation in July and sent a non reply message that probably went into our spam. She stated that they never refunded us either and wondered if I would like to reschedule…(are you kidding me!), i stated no, I want a refund, and she stated that it would probably get to my account by the end for the week. From the smallest nano-breweries to independent craft breweries with age-old history, we sought out the brewers who helped bring craft beer to the ‘Burgh. We focused on developing strong relationships with each of them so we could give you unfettered access to their spaces and suds.

Pittsburgh Brew Tours (City Brew Tours Pittsburgh)

"You drink, We drive" is quite the tagline for City Brew Tours a regional/multi-state brewery tour company . City Brew Tours in Pittsburgh promises an unforgettable craft beer journey around the Steel City that for $70/person, feels quite worth it. Especially so given the range of beer sampling over 3 stops, comfy transpo, and guided lessons steeped in beer culture and the local craft beer scene. Tours are offered Wednesday through Sunday.

Porter Brewery Tours

If you're down to take a mini school bus around to a few brewpubs, Porter Brewery Tours is down to be your guide. PBT offers the standard set up of 3 brewery stops, complete with music, snacks, and water. Porter Brew Tours feels slightly more casual in their approach, giving you time to enjoy 2-3 samples of beer at each brewery, while generally staying out of the way.

An arrangement is generally made to enable you to get a tour from the owner/operators of a select brewery on the tour. Always good to meet the craft artisans and get insight into their brewing process and methods.

Steel City Brew Tours

SCBT is a full service party bus that, in simple terms, connects residents and tourists with craft beer in Pittsburgh. Birthday party guests, bachelorettes, and daydrinkers alike can enjoy a multi-hour, multi-brewery tour around the Steel City for reasonable prices. They even rent out the bus for maximum fun, like tailgating at a Steelers game. Don't forget the beer brats .

Common Pittsburgh brewery stops include Grist House, Couch Brewery, and the Allegheny City Brewing Company.

Brewery, Bits and Bites Tour

'Burgh Bits & Bites Tours are more centered around food, but that doesn't mean they can't collaborate with PA Brew Tours to throw a solid beer tour to introduce folks to the local craft beer scene. The tour rolled through Bloomfield and included a stop at Church Brew Works as well. Hopefully this tour will resume again at a future date.

Tours offered by Pittsburgh Breweries

Sometimes all you want is to casually tour a brewery on your own. Low key, accessible, highly informal, just showing up to a brewery at the tour time is always a fun time. The downside is that sometimes tours fill up. Here are a few Pittsburgh breweries that offer in-person tours.

The fix must be in because a lot of these breweries charge the same fee ($25) for a tour of their production facility. That said, some of them are well worth it.

East End Brewing Company

East End Brewing comes out swinging with a tour of their "bigger, better Brewery". You start in the Brewpub with beer before you are guided through the brewery, all while discussing the history of EEBC. That means 4 samples of current brews, followed by the educational "nature" walk, followed by a filled growler's worth of East End craft beer. The tour lasts an hour, but the memory lasts a lifetime. 21+ on the tour, no exceptions.

Grist House Craft Brewery

On occasion, Grist House will offer custom tours every hour on the hour on Saturdays. Limited to 10 people. Post-tour, or perhaps pre-tour, guests can load up on Hazedelic Juice Grenades and Solar Submarines.

You can also walk about of Grist House several dollars lighter courtesy of the sweet beer swag they have available. Wearing their striped windbreaker will give you permission to tell complete strangers that you like the cut of their jib. Hitchhiker Brewing Company Brewery Tour

You can enjoy a tour on the first Saturday of the month in the Sharpsburg taproom. It includes an in-depth tour of the brewery, a beer tasting, and, some glassware you can take home. Note - it is a paid tour ($25).

Hitchhiker may be a dog friendly brewery, but we're not sure they let your puppers around the beer, so it's best to check with management before bringing Fido to the brewery for a tour of the premises.

Penn Brewery

"Pittsburgh's Microbrewery" offers guided tours at 1:00pm on selected Saturdays. The tour will run you $25 per person. Included is a 16oz beer and a t-shirt or filled growler. No, those aren't typos. A pint plus merch or more beer. We're sold!

Penn Brewery also offers VIP sessions and Private tours. The VIP session upgrades you to more beer samples and a meet-and-greet with the brewer. It's going to run you an extra $20 dollars. Private tours run up to a max of 25 guests. There is a $200 fee that covers the first 10 people, with an additional $10 per head after that. You need to book a private tour a few weeks in advance.

Threadbare Cider House & Meadery

Threadbare offers both Private Adult Tours and Private Family Tours. For the former, a certified tour guide will take you through the cider creation process. This includes how Threadbare sources apples and yeasts, as well how they produce bottle-conditioned hard ciders.

For the latter, parents and children get to enjoy some non-alcoholic cider to accompany their walk through the Cider House. Threadbare may even spin a yarn about the Steel City's own Johnny "Appleseed" Chapman.

Both tours run all week, with weekday availability from 11am-7pm, Saturday from 5:30pm-8pm, and Sunday from 11am-3pm. Min and Max guests range from 6-22. You need to make contact with Threadbare Cider House & Meadery first for a reservation.

Liberty Brew Tours conducts business in Philadelphia along with Montgomery and Bucks county. Typical story of friends coming together with a love for and appreciation of craft beer. Breweries included on their tours are Crooked Eye Brewing, Tower Hill Brewery, Sacred Vice Brewing, Punch Buggy Brewing Company, and more. Tours run on the weekend and cost about $95 per person. 1. Brew Gentlemen

Brew Gentlemen is a small craft brewery and taproom located in the historic steel town of Braddock, PA. After completing a successful Kickstarter, they invested in some stainless steel brewing equipment and renovating an old electrical supply store in Braddock. The creatives at Brew Gentlemen believe in beer as a "medium for flavors, stories, celebrations and things that go beyond what is in the glass."

Drawing inspiration from both the classical brewing and culinary worlds, they brew an ambitious variety of beers focused on balance and complexity. Although they don't offer food, there are food trucks set up outside their bar most days of the week! They are also one of the most award-winning breweries in the region, most recently winning a gold medal for their Muchos Mahalos in the fruit beer category and bronze medal for Garden Party in the vegetable beer category at the 2023 U.S. Open Beer Championship.

Pro Tip: Be sure to try Brew Gentleman's flagship American IPA, General Braddock's. It was named one of the 25 best beers of the decade !

2. Church Brew Works

The Church Brew Works is a brewpub in Lawrenceville that is located in a restored Roman Catholic church. Formerly St. John the Baptist Church and built in 1902, it was used as a church until 1993 and is on the Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation's List of Historic Landmarks. Now, it is frequently listed as one of the best breweries in Pittsburgh featuring award-winning beer, eclectic cuisine, and decadent desserts. 3. East End Brewing

East End Brewing is Pittsburgh's home for fresh local beer since 2004. A production brewery distributing kegs, cans and big bottles throughout Western Pennsylvania, they also offer pints, tastings, big bottles, growlers and growlers to go.

East End brews about 35 different beers throughout the year including year-round, seasonal, recurring favorites and "downright weird" beers. 4. Velum Fermentation

Family owned and operated, Grist House strives to produce high quality beer that is delicious and easy to drink. 6. Helltown Brewing

You would never suspect that at the end of such a quiet residential street some mischief would be brewing. Helltown Brewing was launched in 2011 in the old mechanic's garage where they are still brewing today. The brewery has an industrial feel to match the usual soundtrack on brew days. While Helltown is a production brewery, they do have a tasting area and outdoor seating for you to enjoy their quality beers.

Helltown uses high-quality grains for all of their beers, and are committed to the community. All spent grain is donated to local farmers, and all of their merchandise is bought from local businesses. They also support a variety of local charities in Mt. Pleasant and Pittsburgh, which is pretty great way to give back! They also have a location right in the heart of the Strip District so you don't have to travel far to find their beers!

7. Hitchhiker Brewing Company

Hitchhiker Brewing Co. is a small-batch craft brewery with two locations south and north of Downtown Pittsburgh. The Hitchhiker Brewing Co. brew pub offers a variety of hand-crafted beers that are brewed on-premise. In addition to their beer, they offer Hitchhiker Ginger Ale & Root Beer, local wines, and a rotating selection of Pennsylvania-crafted ciders. 8. Hop Farm Brewing Company

Hop Farm Brewing Company is a woman-owned, family-run craft brewery in the Lawrenceville neighborhood of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. Their focus is on sustainability and local sourcing while producing their flagship IPA, some Belgian styles, sour beers and a Nut Brown Ale year round. Hop Farm Brewing Company's tap list is ever changing and growing based on the seasons and is dedicated to the responsible use of natural resources, from production to packaging and everything in between.

9. Penn Brewery

Penn Brewery began brewing craft beer back in 1986, making them one of the earliest pioneers in the American craft beer movement. They started out brewing classic lagers and German beer styles, and expanded their lineup to include IPAs and other contemporary styles like chocolate and pumpkin beers. Penn brews all of their beers by hand with top-tier barley and hops.

As winners of nineteen Great American Beer Festival and World Beer Cup medals, you know their beer is good. Penn Brewery's restaurant serves "ethnic-Pittsburgh" fare made from fresh, locally-sourced ingredients including wurst, schnitzel, pierogi, and goulash alongside contemporary Pittsburgh favorites, like the french fry salad, flatbreads, and sandwiches. Asheville has a hot brewery scene right now — so instead of picking one to see, it may be worth it to hop on a tour that hits several. The Asheville Brews Cruise takes cruisers to a few local gems, where they’ll enjoy plenty of samples over about four hours.

Samuel Adams Boston Brewery offers a few different touring experiences.

The most basic, the “Sam Signature Experience,” is 45 minutes and costs $10. From there, tours get a bit pricier and more involved — like the “Artisan Beer & Cheese Experience” and the “VIP Pass Experience” (which gets you tasting access to a new, experimental brew).

Shiner Brewery (Texas)

Shiner’s Spoetzl Brewery offers a few different types of tours to cater to everyone from craft beer experts to newbies. The brewery’s signature tour includes a 45-minute guided walk through the brewery, some goodies, and, of course, some excellent beer samples.

Stone Brewing Company (California)

Stone Brewing Company offers tours at its locations in both Escondido, California, and Richmond, Virginia.

The California tour in San Diego County is a particular hit. For just $15, visitors get a tour, a souvenir tasting glass, and an array of samples of Stone’s core and specialty beers.

The Alchemist Brewery (Vermont)

Vermont has many breweries to choose from, so beer lovers may want to look into tours that hit a few — but the Alchemist’s is top-notch if you only have time for one. For $25, visitors are taken on an intimate tour of the brewery and get a can of beer and a commemorative glass.

Tröegs Independent Brewing (Pennsylvania)

The final two tours on our list are in Pennsylvania — and, of course, we had to include Tröegs, which has been voted the “Best Brewery Tour in America” several times.

The guided production tour offers an in-depth look at the Hershey facility, plus a welcome beer, a souvenir glass, and samples of Tröegs tops brews — all for $15.

Yuengling Brewing (Pennsylvania)

Yuengling’s location in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, is America’s oldest brewery — and you can tour it for free! The tour takes about an hour, and guests are welcome to sample beer or purchase drafts or beer to-go from its tasting room.

Bottom line

A brewery tour can be an exciting and cheap way to spend an afternoon and step up your travel game  — you really can’t beat Dogfish Head’s $5 quick tour.
