Fun Things to Do and Tips for Exploring Dubai Marina

The epicentre of Dubai’s cosmopolitan side, what can you expect visiting & staying in the Dubai Marina area of the city?

If you’d asked me just 15 years ago about staying in Dubai Marina, I probably would have laughed that it’s a bit far from the airport and a bit of a concrete jungle…

Well, times have changed, and yes, Dubai Marina IS some distance away from DXB (about 30 minutes in a taxi – no traffic); however, no longer a soulless concrete jungle, it has taken on a heart and soul of its own and is the perfect spot to base yourself for a longer vacation stay in Dubai, or if you simply like hanging out around amazing urban scenery and nightlife.

Where to Find Dubai Marina & How to Get Around

Where to stay in dubai marina / jbr, where to eat & drink in dubai marina, fun things to do in dubai marina.

Dubai Marina sits on the Arabian Gulf coast to the west of Palm Jumeirah. It is 33kms away from DXB Airport, about 30 minutes off-peak along Sheikh Zayed Road E11, but it can take longer if there’s heavy traffic.

Dubai Marina Metro

You can get to Dubai Marina by Careem/Taxi , or it’s possible to access Dubai Marina from the Red Line Metro. The two most convenient stops are DMCC Station 1 and DAMAC Properties Metro, which also connect with the Dubai Tram.

Dubai Marina Tram

The Dubai Tram services the whole of the Dubai Marina area in a circular loop and then continues onward to Dubai Media City area and Knowledge Village. It can be a quick and convenient way to get from A to B – assuming it’s heading in the direction you need!

Otherwise, sometimes it can be quicker to tackle distances on foot; along the waterfront, you can avoid the traffic lights that the trams need to stop at.

The Dubai Tram is a convenient way to connect with the Palm Monorail, though note the Palm Monorail is privately operated by Nakheel, not part of the Dubai RTA transport system that uses Nol card , so separate (quite hefty) fees are applicable.

The terms Dubai Marina and JBR area of the city might be used quite interchangeably, though there are some subtle differences. Dubai Marina refers to the area as a whole, whereas JBR – Jumeirah Beach Residence – is a series of buildings that sit between the marina and the beach. On the northern side of the Marina, you are in JBR.

So, on to the fun stuff! Whether you’ve chosen to stay in Dubai Marina or simply want to enjoy what’s on offer for a day or the evening, here are some Dubai Marina attractions and activities to seek out:

Dubai Marina Cruise

One of the main reasons tourists head to Dubai Marina is as a departure point for cruises onto the Arabian Gulf waters . There is a wide variety of companies offering cruise services, so you need to think about:

  • How long do you want to be out on the water for?
  • Size and speed of the craft (speed boat or a more sedate luxury cruise)
  • How many people will be in your tour group?
  • How far you want to go, some stay pretty close to the marina and the Palm, while others will make a much longer loop up to Burj Al Arab and further east along Jumeirah Beach.

Here’s a selection of different ideas to get you started:

Although there are many cruise providers, we recommend booking through a reputable ticketing agent such as Get Your Guide who has a money-back guarantee, should your travel plans be changed it’s excellent to have this flexibility.

Dubai Marina Mall

Much of the activity of Dubai Marina revolves around the Dubai Marina Mall—relatively small in Dubai terms, but a beautifully set-out shopping experience. You’ll find everything from your favourite beachwear brands to a big supermarket (ideal for grabbing a little gourmet picnic along the waterfront).

Dubai Marina Zipline

Fancy taking on XLine Dubai ? The world’s longest urban zip line will see you soaring from Amwaj Towers back to Dubai Marina Mall at speeds up to 80km/hr. The tandem lines mean you can even race your friends and family for some of the city’s most incredible urban views .

The Walk & The Beach

Closely connected to Dubai Marina is the famous Dubai location of The Walk and The Beach. The Walk is a retail promenade with plenty of dining, shopping and entertainment options.

The Beach is the public beachfront for JBR, to stroll along the beach and pull up a towel is completely free. If you wish to take advantage of any of the dozens of leisure attractions along here, from Flying Cup sky-high dining (pictured) to the inflated obstacle course Aqua Fun , these come at an additional fee – as do the beach chairs with parasol.

Bluewaters Island

Bluewaters is situated close to Dubai Marina, though not directly connected. You can access Bluewaters on foot if you head to the very end of The Beach; there is a pedestrian walkway across the water to Bluewaters.

Alternatively, you can access Bluewaters by water taxi from Dubai Marina.

Bluewaters is home to a brand new dining and entertainment district as well as Ain Dubai – the largest observation wheel in the world – it’s a really fun new place to hand out with an ever-improving lineup of fun casual to fine dining choices.

Ain Dubai - Observation Wheel at Blue Waters

Bluewaters is also home to Cove Beach , so if you’re staying in an apartment but would prefer to enjoy some private beachfront action away from the public crowds on The Beach, this is a top spot to head.

Should you include Dubai Marina on your Dubai Vacation?

Whether you plan to visit for a day or make Dubai Marina the base point of your Dubai vacation experience, you won’t be disappointed – it’s definitely worth the extra travel time to come to a newer part of the city.

Do make sure you make time to get beyond the city too, experience a day or evening trip into the desert , pop down to neighbouring Abu Dhabi and you’ll get a great all-round Dubai experience in the heart of the tourist action.

If you are not big into skyrises and urban lifestyle – that’s OK; we know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea – Dubai Marina may not be the best choice for you. Perhaps look into one of the city’s larger and more sprawling tropical beach resorts or check out accommodation in the older parts of Dubai around Bur Dubai and Dubai Creek.

What to see and do at Dubai Marina

Explore everything on offer in one of Dubai’s most sought-after neighbourhoods

One of Dubai’s most exclusive neighbourhoods, Dubai Marina is set on a two-mile stretch of pristine sand facing the Arabian Gulf. As gleaming yachts bob gently and towering skyscrapers glitter in the desert sun, locals and visitors wander palm-lined promenades, shop in glamorous boutiques and dine al fresco by elegant fountains. It’s here that Jumeirah Living Marina Gate , our new, dynamic destination for urban living, opened its doors in early September 2020. When you’re not relaxing in one of its spacious residential suites, discover the best things to see and do at Dubai Marina.

Hit the beach

Dubai Marina’s two primary beaches are The Beach and The Beach at Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR). Both are family-friendly, with activities for children ranging from inflatable waterparks to miniature trains and even camel rides, yet offer plenty for adults, too. Relax in a cabana between dips in the sea; top up your tan during a game of beach volleyball; take to the waves on a jetski or wakeboard; or browse the waterside markets. When it’s time for refreshments, be seated at any number of chic restaurants and bars offering tempting fare with Emirati flair. Prefer to swim in a pool rather than the sea? Jumeirah Living Marina Gate’s very own 23-metre infinity pool, fringed by foliage and overlooking the ocean, is the perfect place to cool off.

Stroll Dubai Marina

Lining the main waterway are broad boulevards ideal for a scenic walk or invigorating jog. Make a loop along the coast, past the marina spotting superyachts berthed at Dubai’s International Marine Club, passing sunbathers on the sands towards Zero Gravity Beach Club, where skydivers and parachutists add a dash of contrasting colour to blue skies. Alternatively, pick up a bicycle and glide along the cosmopolitan canalside and along The Walk, as every bridge and path have a dedicated lane for two-wheeled explorers.

Strolling Dubai Marina

See the tallest block

You don’t have to be a lover of modern architecture to appreciate the magnificence of what’s colloquially known as ‘the tallest block’. The tallest block of skyscrapers in the world, each of the buildings here measures over 300m, from the Princess Tower - 414m - to the comparatively small Cayan Tower, at 310m. These are residential blocks and therefore inaccessible, but it’s worth taking a camera to appreciate the sheer scale of this record-breaking, glass-encased development from below.

Dubai Marina Tallest block

Shop at Dubai Marina Mall

Set across four floors, Dubai Marina Mall is fairly modest by Dubai’s own palatial standards, yet the range of stores on offer won’t disappoint. In the cool of its marbled halls, discover haute couture and high street fashion, organic beauty brands and bespoke jewellers, as well as waterside cafes, restaurants and the 6-screen Reel Cinemas, a popular place to see the latest Hollywood hits.

Take a sunset cruise

Step aboard a luxury boat and take in the stunning sight of the sun sinking as you glide along Marina Canal and through Palm Lagoon. A glass of Champagne in hand, admire the city skyline as you pass landmarks including the Burj Al Arab, the grand gate of the Atlantis and the superyachts casually moored in Dubai Marina. Longer cruises can also be had for those seeking to drink and dance the night away to a backdrop of smartly-lit skyscrapers reflecting on the gentle waves.

Sunset cruise Dubai Marina

Go dancing at Zero Gravity Dubai

By day a premium beach club with sparkling infinity pool, by night Zero Gravity is one of the world’s most lauded restaurants and nightclubs. After a day of exploring, hit its open-air terraces to mingle with locals to the sounds of international DJs. Cocktail in hand, enjoy a night of dancing under the stars as the waves lap the shore and Ain Dubai observation wheel glitters, illuminated in ever-changing colours, across the sea on Bluewaters Island.

At the heart of and within easy walking distance of all Dubai Marina has to offer is the new Jumeirah Living Marina Gate , whose sophisticated residential suites offer guests the best of both worlds: the beauty of the Arabian Gulf’s white sand beaches and the dynamism of one of Dubai’s most sought-after urban neighbourhoods.

Dubai Marina: The Complete Guide

Gary McGovern/Getty Images

For a Dubai stay that blends beachside chills with high-octane thrills, luxury shopping, and chic stays , set your sights on Dubai Marina. This cosmopolitan destination, a 30-minute drive south of Dubai International Airport, makes an ideal base for a UAE holiday. It’s close to the Mall of s the Emirates, Dubai Mall and Burj Khalifa via metro, and a short hop in a taxi to Burj Al Arab and Wild Wadi Waterpark . And, as it’s at the southern end of Dubai, it’s handy for day trips to Abu Dhabi , just over an hour’s drive away not that you’ll want to stray too far from this vibrant hub. Discover the best places to eat, drink, play and stay in this complete guide to Dubai Marina.

Eat & Drink

You’d need a month to put a dent in the dining options available in Dubai Marina, but if you’re only here for a few days, start with a visit to Pier 7 . This sleek, cylindrical building perched over the water is home to seven eateries, each with stylish interiors and jaw-dropping marina views. Hit up Asia Asia for sushi and dumplings, Abd el Wahab for modern Lebanese fare, Cargo for tasty Asian snacks and cocktails, The Scene for British pub grub, Mama Zonia for Amazonian favorites, Fumé for international share plates, and Atelier M for fine French cuisine.

Nearby, Bistro Des Arts is a charming Parisian-style bistro that handles the classics with aplomb. The waterfront terrace is air-conditioned during summer, so you can enjoy your steak tartare and duck confit en plein air, no matter the weather. They also serve a very civilized brunch on weekends.

For something a little less subdued, dress in your party threads for WeBrunch at The Intercontinental, on the opposite side of the marina. This Friday institution promises free-flowing drinks, a global buffet, and dance tunes pumping from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. After brunch ends, everyone heads upstairs to The Aftermath at Marina Social Bar, where the dancing and drinking continue unabated. Just remember, it’s a serious no-no to be drunk in public in Dubai, so be sure you’re on your best behavior you venture back outside.

From here, cross the road to Jumeirah Beach Residence, Dubai Marina’s clutch of sea-view apartments, restaurants and shops strung along a white-sand beach on the Arabian Gulf. Stroll along The Walk to take your pick of American barbecue at Mighty Quinn’s , al fresco pizza at Rosso in Amwaj Rotana, and Arabic café fare at Café Bateel.

Between The Walk and the water lies The Beach , an alfresco shopping and dining complex that in 2019 was home to 36 eateries. Top picks include the inventive Indian dishes at Bombay Bungalow, sophisticated Emirati cuisine at Seven Sands, British classics at Pots, Pans & Boards, and bright Mediterranean flavours at Eat Greek Kouzina, plus outposts of Ladurée Patisserie, Shake Shack and Godiva.

At Rixos Premium Dubai , food and beverage options span burgers and shakes at Black Tap, polished Italian at Luigia, and elegant seafood at Riviera, as well as the Azure Beach Club for daytime drinks and Inner City Zoo or Lock, Stock & Barrel for lively nights. A little further along the beach, Zero Gravity has a reputation for being one of Dubai’s premiere party spots, with its iconic clear-sided pool and day-to-night dancing.

For sunset drinks that are a little more sedate, seek out one of Dubai Marina’s rooftop bars. Soak up cocktails and sea views at Pure Sky Lounge at Hilton Dubai The Walk, or for drinks overlooking the glittering lights of the marina, try Atelier M at Pier 7, Siddharta Lounge by Buddha Bar , or the party-ready Shades pool and bar at Address Dubai Marina.

The fastest—and most fun—way to familiarize yourself with the area is by taking in the sights from above. Get a bird’s-eye view of Dubai Marina, the beach and the Palm Jumeirah with Skydive Dubai . Or, buckle in for the world’s longest urban zipline with XLine , reaching speeds of up to 50 mph as you cruise from Jumeirah Beach Residence to Dubai Marina Mall.

Once you’re back on solid ground, shop Dubai Marina Mall ’s more than 100 fashion, sporting and accessories stores or catch a movie at Reel Cinemas. Just outside the mall, wooden dhow boats and luxury catamarans depart for afternoon and evening cruises around the marina and out to sea, offering buffet meals, soft drinks, and Insta-worthy vistas of the coastline and the Palm.

Party people, join the hordes at Barasti Beach : a bustling pool and beach club by day, non-stop dance party by night. For aquatic thrills , book a wakeboarding session with Sea Riders , or hire jetskis directly off the beach. Or for something a little more low-key, hire sunbeds and cabanas from Sea Breeze , ride a camel along the shoreline, or take advantage of the free yoga classes, held four mornings a week from October to April on the lawn in front of Lime Tree Café. Little ones will love running around Splash Pad , a water playground for kids aged 1 to 12.

For beachside hotels, check in to ultra-modern Rixos Premium Dubai , Le Royal Meridien Beach Resort & Spa (home to a wow-worthy pool, lush gardens and private beach), or the timeless elegance of The Ritz-Carlton, Dubai . Back from the beach, Address Dubai Marina offers sleek rooms and a show-stopping infinity pool perched above the marina.

Getting around

What sets Dubai Marina apart from other Dubai destinations is its accessibility. There are two metro stations (Damac and Jumeirah Lakes Towers) that take you to Downtown Dubai, Business Bay and Old Dubai; and the Dubai Tram, which travels around the Marina and Jumeirah Beach Residence, and connects with The Palm monorail. Outside the summer months (May to September), take advantage of the idyllic weather with a stroll along the four-mile promenade or a jog on the cushioned running track down at The Beach.

Things to do in Dubai Marina

One of the best places to stay is the Dubai Marina, and you will find plenty of Airbnbs in Dubai Marina , as well! This artificial marina is known for its high-rise buildings, great parties, and luxurious hotels.

To help you plan a great trip to Dubai, we’ve listed the ten best things to do in Dubai Marina here!

Best Things to Do at Dubai Marina

1. go shopping in dubai marina mall.

When we think of Dubai, we naturally think of Dubai Mall, the largest shopping center in the world (one of the many fun facts about Dubai and its record-setting places).

Yet Dubai is home to many beautiful, large, and luxurious shopping malls, including the Dubai Marina Mall.

This large shopping center is located on the waterfront of the Marina.

It is operated by Emaar, one of the largest property developers in Dubai and the company that owns Dubai Mall – which is why Dubai Marina Mall has the same look and feel as its larger brother.

In Dubai Marina Mall , you will find many luxury brands and boutiques such as BCBGMAXAZRIA, Dune, Mac, the suit makers at Sacoor Brothers, and other well-known brands such as Ted Baker, Steve Madden, and Tommy Hilfiger.

You can also get a bite to eat at your favorite fast-food restaurants and restaurant chains like Five Guys, Hardee’s, Cinnabon, Wagamama’s, and Yo Sushi.

There is also a lot to do if you are traveling with kids. In Dubai Marina Mall, you will find a Build-A-Bear workshop, and you can also enjoy a movie with the family as this shopping center operates a Reel Cinema.

2. Take a Boat Tour on Yellow Boats

Would you like to visit The Palm? Then it is best to do this by boat- it really is one of the best things to do in Dubai ! In all honesty – there is very little to the Palm when you are driving or even walking over the island.

Via Yellow Boats , you can take a lovely trip along the coast of Dubai, and you get the chance to see The Palm up close. You will sail past the famous Atlantis Hotel.

When taking a tour with Yellow Boats, you can also take a trip through Dubai Marina, where you can snap pictures of the expensive yachts and the many skyscrapers.

3. Dine in the Flying Cup

When we think of Dubai, we often think of unique luxury experiences that you can’t find anywhere else in the world. One of these experiences is the Flying Cup .

Here you will be hoisted meters into the air so that you have a beautiful view over Dubai Marina. You are, as it were, stuck at a kind of bar where chefs prepare you a snack or even a complete dinner.

4. Catch Some Rays at Dubai Marina Beach (JBR Beach)

Dubai has many great beaches, and Dubai Marina Beach is one of the most beautiful sandy beaches in the city. It is also one of the top photo spots in Dubai !

Dubai Marina Beach is also known as JBR Beach , part of the Jumeirah beach resort. Here you have access to many restaurants, bars, and even shisha lounges, of which Smokey Beach is probably the most famous.

After a long day on the beach, you can head to one of the nearby restaurants or dance the night away in one of the bars or nightclubs.

5. Go for a Friday Brunch

Brunching is a national sport in Dubai. Until recently, it was the easiest and often the cheapest way to consume alcohol in Dubai. The concept of a brunch is simple: for three to four hours, you have access to a buffet, or you will be presented with an entire menu.

You get free soft drinks or can choose from a list of alcoholic beverages, depending on the package you choose.

When it comes to brunches, there is something for everyone in Dubai. There are gourmet brunches in chic restaurants that are more like a taster menu with free-flowing alcohol, or even party brunches where loud music is played and everyone has a cocktail in hand.

Brunch in Dubai

Most brunches occur on Fridays at 1 pm. Still, there are also party brunches where you can go on Thursday evening or Friday evening! Recommended brunches are those at Pier 7 and Trader Vic’s in The Hilton at JBR.

You can buy The Entertainer, a discount app that will allow you to get 50% off throughout the city on dining, drinking, excursions, attractions, and even shopping.

Although the app is geared towards residents of Dubai, you can definitely get a lot of value out of the app if you stay more than a couple of days or want to head to expensive or fine dining restaurants!

6. Splash Around at Aquafun

It is scorching in Dubai, especially in the summer. If you are looking for an excellent way to cool down, head to Aquafun.

Aquafun Dubai - frantic00 - Shutterstock.com

This floating playground can be found on the beach of Dubai Marina Beach and is a great way to spend a few hours playing, swimming, and clambering with friends.

7. Go on a Fishing Excursion

Before Dubai was a tourist attraction or the UAE found oil, Dubai was little more than a settlement that lived off fishing.

The waters of the Persian Gulf are teeming with fish, and you can spend the whole afternoon or evening with friends on a little boat off the Dubai shore reeling in one fish after the other.

Fishing in Dubai

Several companies offer fishing trips; many of these trips depart from Dubai Marina or the small marina in Jumeirah. They are great for trips with friends and even a unique option if you’re enjoying your honeymoon in Dubai .

8. Go Skydiving Over the Palm

Did you know that you can also go skydiving from Dubai Marina? You can choose between a skydive over the desert or a jump above the Dubai Palm Jumeirah. However, the latter costs a lot more – almost double than a skydive over the desert.

Skydiving over the Palm in Dubai

The departure point of these Skydive tours is located just next to the Palm Jumeirah. It is easily accessible from your hotel or apartment in Dubai Marina.

9. Zipline through the Skyscrapers of Dubai Marina

The UAE is known to have some of the most amazing zip lines! You can head to the world’s fastest zipline in Ras Al Khaimah, but the coolest one is the one in Dubai Marina.

Xline Dubai is a zipline that will take you through the skyscrapers and over the water of Dubai Marina and has been voted in the 10% of the most unique attractions in the world.

10. Take a Dhow Cruise in the Dubai Marina

Finally, you can also go on a Dhow Cruise through Dubai Marina . Dhows are the traditional boats used by the people of Dubai to fish or trade with neighboring countries.

These boats are still heavily used for trade and transport of goods, as can be seen in harbors such as the one by Palm Deira or on the Dubai Creek.

Dhow Dinner Cruise Dubai Marina

Now you can enjoy a tasty menu and soft drinks onboard one of these boats during a Dhow Cruise.

Depending on which cruise you choose, you will be guided through Dubai Marina, but you can, of course, also take a Dhow Cruise over Dubai Creek in Deira, where you will receive information about the history of the city, the historic neighborhoods and have beautiful views over the skyscrapers in Business Bay and of course the Burj Khalifa.

Dubai Marina Walk: Ultimate Travel Guide

The dubai marina walk

Originally posted 2021-01-22 10:58:30.

Famous for its looming skyscrapers, luxurious apartments, diverse shops, and numerous attractions, the Dubai Marina area is beloved by natives and tourists alike. But aside from the beauty of the area, the cherry on top of the trifle, the crowning gem of it all is the Dubai Marina Walk , which is a must-see for anyone who gets the opportunity to visit Dubai. If you’re someone who’s never been to the Dubai Marina Walk , then read on for more information about the attraction, from things to do to ways of travel.

The Dubai Marina Walk is a project of Emaar , located in the heart of the metropolitan we know as New Dubai . The seven-kilometer long walk is lined with trees, curving around the promenade of the man-made marina that rises up in all its glory. Not only is the walk a skip and turn away from the beach, but it also houses a vast variety of restaurants, cafés, famous retail outlets, and offers multiple entertainment opportunities for visitors. Built-in 2007 and opened to the public in 2008, the Dubai Marina Walk has since become a central point for all who wish to get a taste of all the modern wonders that Dubai offers in daily life.

Activities To Indulge In At Dubai Marina Walk

Headed to the Dubai Marina Walk with not a clue what to do? Worry not, for you need to look no further. Here’s our guide to all you can do when you visit this wonder.

Let’s be real. We all expected this one. After all, Dubai is one of the shopping hubs of the world, with a diversity in fashion that is unparalleled. If you’re looking for outfits that will leave everyone with their jaws on the floor, then head on to the Dubai Marina Mall situated right next to pier 7 . While it might be small in size, it houses the best brands from all across the world, whether it be in fashion, makeup, or electronics. You’ll find household names here such as Sephora , H&M , Ted Baker , Steve Madden , ICONIC , and many, many more, all offered to you in a relaxed environment. To top it all off, it also houses one of the two Waitrose supermarkets in Dubai, which is why it is quite popular with Dubai’s residents. Besides the mall itself, there’s a large outlet of Spinneys in the Dubai Marina Towers .

#2 Cycle Or Have A Walk

The Dubai Marina Walk is famous for its view. You can enjoy that to its fullest by renting a bicycle available at one of the many BYKY stands sprinkled throughout the walk. You can rent a bicycle by simply registering at the stands using your mobile number.

More of a casual stroll person? Well, it’s called a walk for a reason. The promenade is famous for its wide paths and green landscapes. With the lively atmosphere and striking scenery with the sparkling skyscrapers and lush paths, which makes it perfect for a walk with some good company. On your way, you’ll come across the Dubai Marina Walk Fountain , which is a perfect spot for a quick photo op, especially when it lights up as evening hits.

For a true foodie, Dubai is a dream destination. The diversity of cultures, traditions, and cuisines only makes one’s palate crave a trip even more. For those lucky enough to actually get that trip, schedule a trip to Dubai Marina Promenade right away. There’s a multitude of restaurants and cafés that will satisfy even the pickiest of taste buds. There are breakfast spots here, such as Nando’s , PF Chang’s , and Reem Al Bawadi . The restaurants at the marina walk are based in places that overlook the whole marina. Want something fancier? Walk over to Pier 7 ; this architectural landmark offers seven culinary experiences, which you can get a taste of along with a view of the glittering waters and the Arabian Gulf.

#4 Spa Trip

All that walking and shopping does tire one out, and after having a nice meal, one really doesn’t have the energy for much. Lucky for you, the Dubai Marina Walk offers many places for you to unwind and let loose with a companion with a few relaxing massages or hydrating facials. The Chi Foot Spa , Retreat Spa , and B/Attitude Spa are some of the many popular spas located along the Marina Walk .

#5 Play Areas

While these above-listed activities might be attractive to grown people or people with mature tastes, children often get bored on these tours. But the Dubai Marina Walk has play areas created especially to keep children engaged and active. There are several of them dotted across the promenade with the classics of a park in them, such as swings and slides. These play areas are built on rubber floors with benches nearby, so the children can play without hurting themselves while the adults relax and chat.

#6 Mosque Tour

The Mohammed Bin Ahmed Al Mulla Mosque is the crowning gem of the promenade and is visited by Muslims and non-Muslims alike because like all mosques, this mosque is open for all. The mosque offers a guided tour in English that lasts 45 minutes, taking questions from the visitors, and offering light refreshments too, all for free. This is an excellent opportunity to learn about the Muslim faith for everyone.

The Dubai Marina Walk is a wonder to behold and has many, many activities for everyone of every taste. These are just the tip of the glacier.

Getting To Dubai Marina Walk

Due to its convenient positioning, the marina promenade can be easily accessed by multiple modes of transportation. Some of them are:

#1 Dubai Metro

For those traveling by the Dubai Metro , you can get off at the DMCC Station , cross the overpass by walk, and hop on the Dubai Tram which will take you to the Dubai Marina Mall Station . The marina promenade is easily accessible from the mall. Alternatively, after your ride at the Dubai Metro , you can get off at the Damac Properties Station and get across the overpass to Dubai Marina . You will have to walk a distance of five minutes from here to the marina promenade.

For those traveling by RTA Bus , the travel will be fairly uncomplicated. You will need to take bus 8, which will let you off at the Jumeirah Beach Residence Station 2 . The marina promenade is a stone’s throw away from here, stationed a five-minute walk away.

If you’re coming in from Abu Dhabi, you’ll need to take Exit 32 for Al Naseem Street . Further on, you’ll find signs that’ll lead you from Al Marsa to Al Khayay Street , which will lead you right to the Dubai Marina Walk .

For those coming from Dubai, you’ll need to take the 32nd Exit from Sheikh Zayed Road , where you will find signs for the Dubai Marina . You’ll need to travel to Al Khayay Street which will allow you to reach the marina walk.

However, the parking offered at the Dubai Marina Walk is fairly limited. There are building complexes lining the walk, where visitors can park for free for a limited time, and will later be charged for. However, if your parking voucher is stamped by the retail outlet or restaurant you’re visiting, then you can avail free parking

Dubai Marina | Everything You Need to Know

Dubai Marina - Everything You Need to Know | The Vacation Builder

Dubai Marina is one of the most popular area’s for tourists to visit. Set next to The Walk on Jumeirah Beach Residence, this popular hot spot features fantastic views, mouthwatering restaurants, luxury accommodation and amazing shopping facilities.

Read on for more information on hotels, restaurants, shopping and bars in Dubai Marina.

Dubai Marina Location

Dubai Marina is set next to and wraps just behind Jumeirah Beach Residence.

A map of its location can be seen below.

As you can see from the map above, the marina sits directly behind JBR, with the water separating The Walk from the marina.

Hotels in Dubai Marina

Let’s start off with accommodation in Dubai Marina.

Dubai Marina is home to over 200 residential towers. Some are 5 star hotels whilst others are rental accommodation for tourists and locals. Dubai Marina’s buldings are also known for being the tallest accommodation blocks in the world.

Due to their height and close proximity to Jumeirah Beach, the views are incredible. There are many hotels to choose from but below I’ve highlighted three of the best.

The Best Hotels in Dubai Marina

The marina usually offers slightly cheaper hotels than that of JBR as it is not set directly on the beach. Nevertheless, the walk from the marina to the beach is less than 10 minutes.

Wyndham Dubai Marina

For unrivalled views of the length of the marina out of one window and Bluewaters Island out of the other; try non other than the Wyndham Dubai.

Dubai Marina | The Vacation Builder | View from The Wyndham Dubai Marina

The rooms are of 5 star quality here for a 2 star price. Prices for a double room can be found as low as £42 per night. So, for those wanting to see the bright lights of Dubai Marina and enjoy JBR without huge expense, try here.

Address Dubai Marina

Next up, my personal favourite hotel on Dubai Marina, Address . Address Hotel boasts high rise accommodation with a central location to most of the attractions on Dubai Marina.

Pier 7 is only a few minutes away, which hosts fine restaurants and bars. You can also catch a Dhow cruise from just outside the front door. The rooftop pool is also something to die for!

Dubai Marriott Harbour Hotel & Suites

For a third choice, try Dubai Marriott Harbour Hotel and Suites. This hotel is based at the opposite end of Dubai Marina than The Wyndham and has fantastic views looking west on the marina and also out to The Palm Jumeirah.

Dubai Marina Restaurants

Now you’ve got the accommodation boxed off, the next thing to do is to make the most of the fantastic dining options this area has to offer.

There is a countless amount of choice for eating out in Dubai Marina. Pier 7 alone hosts 7 of these. My personal favourite being Abd El Wahab . This elegant seafood restaurant is located on the 5th floor of Pier 7 and hosts fabulous views of the boats and the lights at night.

Step out of Pier 7 and behind you will find Dubai Marina Mall. We will touch on the shopping here later in this guide; but there are other fast food restaurants here too which can be enjoyed. From Mcdonalds to Five Guys, there’s something for all inside the mall.

Furthermore, another favourite for most is Massimo’s Italian Restaurant but to be honest we couldn’t cover all of the fantastic eateries in this one post.

Check this link for a map of all of the restaurants in Dubai Marina.

Dubai Marina Mall

Next up, shopping. You can’t go all of the way to Dubai without enjoying the fantastic shopping experiences it has to offer. Dubai Mall and Mall of the Emirates are the obvious two best choices in the city but Dubai Marina Mall offers great retail therapy too!

Located a stones throw behind Pier 7 in the centre of the marina, the mall is home to more than 100 stores. Furthermore, as with most places in Dubai, the architecture is something special too.

Dubai Marina Shopping | Dubai Marina | the Vacation Builder

The mall is home to stores such as Hugo Boss, Billabong, Diesel, Fred Perry and many more designer outlets. There’s also places to dine such as Wagamama’s, Carluccio’s and Yo! Sushi.

Between here and the beachfront shops of The Walk, JBR, anyone can enjoy a full days retail therapy in this area.

Dubai Marina Dhow Cruise

Another popular thing to do in Dubai is take a Dhow Cruise. Dhow boats are the traditional Arabian way to travel on the water and offer a different angle to the amazing views of Dubai from the water.

There are many different ways to take a Dhow. Most spots on the marina offer them as taxi’s for as little as 1 AED to chaparone you from one end to the other. Other options are for short tours to see the sights of the marina and JBR. Alternatively, you can opt for a Dhow Dinner Cruise, which is best taken during the evening. These boats light up just like the rest of the marina at night and make for a fantastic experience.

You can check out the website here for more information on Dhow Dinner Cruises.

Dubai Marina Walk

The next spot to explore on your visit to Dubai Marina would be The Walk. The Walk is the main promenade on Jumeirah Beach Residence and can be reached on foot in as little as ten minutes.

Most of the best hotels in Dubai are based on The Walk. This spot is home to Jumeirah Beach, countless shops and restaurants and great open space play areas for children.

The Walk, JBR is probably the most popular area to stay in Dubai but hotels in this area are more expensive than the one’s on Dubai Marina. If you are fancying a stay on The Walk, The JA Ocean View Hotel and Ritz-Carlton are two of my favourites.

The JA is for the reasonable budget and stands at approximately £100 per night, whereas The Ritz-Carlton is for the higher budgets at around £250 per night. However, both are fantastic places to stay and are in prime locations for the beach and activities on JBR.

Dubai Marina Yacht Club

Dubai Marina Yacht Club | The Vacation Builder

For those wishing for a more luxury experience than that of a Dhow Cruise, check out the yacht club. Yachts can be rented from most area’s in Dubai but Dubai Marina Yacht Club is one of the best places to travel from.

The Yacht Club offers more than just yacht cruises though. This is heaven for sailors by day and offers a unique vibrant waterfront nightlife by night.

Yachts of all sizes are available for tours of the marina and out around The Palm Jumeirah. For me, The Palm Jumeirah tour is one not to be missed! This tour takes you around The Palm Islands and back past one of The Sheikh’s private islands. You can check out the video below for an exclusive peep.

Dubai Marina Bars

The nightlife in this area is extremely vibrant. Many tourists flock to Pier 7 for a drink at night in their many restaurants. Alternatively, there are many amazing rooftop bars that MUST be experienced! Here are 4 rooftop bars in Dubai Marina that can’t be missed.

Siddharta Lounge

Siddharta Bar Dubai Marina | The Vacation Builder

The first of 6 rooftop bars is located at Grosvenor House. Siddharta Lounge is an iconic rooftop cocktail bar with incredible views of the marina, the arabian gulf and The Palm Islands. This view makes Siddharta one of the most popular bars on the marina. Furthermore, they have a nightclub too. So, if your wishing to party on into the night then this is the place to be.

Shades Rooftop Bar, Dubai Marina | The Vacation Builder

Second on the list is based at Address Hotel. This pool by day turns into a restaurant and bar by night. The bar hosts fantastic views of the other skyscrapers in the area as well as an elegant poolside backdrop which lights up in the evening.

Hint: The brunch here on weekends is a must.

Website: http://www.addresshotels.com/en/hotels/address-dubai-marina/dining/shades

Ramusake Bar Dubai Marina | The Vacation Builder

This Japanese fusion restaurant is one of the best in the area. Furthermore, they have a rooftop terrace to enjoy some drinks on an evening.

Enjoy some of the finest cocktails and Japanese beers from here and enjoy the gorgeous views of Dubai Marina at night.

Atelier M at Pier 7

Dubai Marina | Atelier M at Pier 7 | The Vacation Builder

The best of the bars at Pier 7 has to be Atelier M. Located on Pier M’s “extra floor” 7M. Many people miss this place when visiting Pier 7 so make sure you’re not one of them!

As well as checking in for unrivalled views of the marina, you can also rent out the terrace for private events!

Website: http://www.atelierm.ae/

Definitely up their with one of the best places to stay and visit in Dubai. Any Dubai trip is not complete without visiting the marina.

A sprawling desert metropolis and the UAE’s most visited destination, Dubai has soared in popularity with tourists since the turn of the millennium.

It has forged a reputation as a premier destination for shopping, fine-dining and all-inclusive stays, with visitor numbers steadily rising as the city has undertaken ambitious development projects which have seen it become home to numerous superlatives, including the world’s tallest building and the longest indoor ski slope.

One such project is that of the Dubai Marina. Started in 2003, the area has become one of calm waters and scenic views overlooked by soaring skyscrapers, and has since evolved into one of Dubai’s main entertainment districts.

Offering dozens of options for either more standard holiday activities, such as mall visits, or more adventurous ventures (think zip lining or yacht cruising), the Marina is undoubtedly worth a visit on any trip to the Emirate. But where to start? We’ve rounded up a list of the best things to do while there.

Go on a walk

The Dubai Marina Walk covers almost five miles of waterside promenade and is home to over 60 dining venues and 305 retail outlets, making it a great way to spend a day . Picturesque waterfront views can be enjoyed throughout the route, while the presence of dozens of skyscrapers such as Princess Tower, Cayan Tower and Marina 101 add up to a backdrop of staggering urban beauty.

The walk itself will take you across a number of the attractions mentioned below, from the Mall to several cruise starting points. For something a little different, head to Covent Garden Market, an open-air market that runs from October to April.

Hit the beach

If the sweltering temperatures are getting too much , a visit to the beach might be a good way to cool off. Across the Marina and onto the coast, there are two family-friendly beaches that offer long stretches of golden sand that gently slope into the emerald waters of the Arabian Gulf. Confusingly named The Beach at JBR and JBR Beach (short for Jumeirah Beach Residence), both have a lively atmosphere and plenty of activities on offer, from camel rides and jet skiing to inflatable waterparks and waterside markets.

Dubai’s Marina offers several options for exploring on th water. A popular option is a cruise on a traditional wooden dhow boat, where guests can eat dinner while taking in the sights of skyscrapers, yachts and iconic buildings such as the Burj Al Arab or the Atlantis. Sightseeing boat tours will also cover most of these landmarks, while premium options include yacht tours that throw in breakfasts and barbecues. If you’re looking for something a little more laidback, you can use an abra (a traditional water taxi) to transport you via a short but scenic water route.

Visit the mall

While the Marina Mall may be far smaller than the Dubai Mall, it is still worth a visit for those who might want to pop in for some (air conditioned) shopping while strolling the promenade. Its four floors are modest by Dubai’s standards, though it still contains more than 140 shops and numerous dining options. You’ll find a range of international and local stores offering everything from fashion to electronics, as well as a variety of entertainment areas, including a six-screen cinema and an indoor soft play area for kids.

Take on the zip line

Officially named XLine Dubai Marina, this zip line measures 170 metres in height and 0.6 miles in length, making it the longest urban zip line in the world. The line takes daredevils from Amwaj Towers to the Marina Mall at speeds of up to 50 miles per hour (which also makes it one of the fastest zip lines in the world). Tickets start at AED 650 (around £135).

The Marina also offers other adrenaline-fuelled activities, such as skydiving, indoor skiing and speedboat tours.

The Marina and promenade area are home to an eclectic mix of dining options, from casual mall food halls to premium fine-dining experiences. Pier 7 is arguably the Marina’s principal fine-dining destination, with seven floors that each house different restaurants, from hearty British cuisine to Asian fusion. And for something completely different, there’s the option to eat dinner suspended 50 metres in the air at Dinner in the Sky, held up by a crane while you enjoy tortellini or sea bass.

The area isn’t all novelty dining and expensive set menus though. You’ll find everything from Wagamama to vegan restaurants; The Blacksmith, Loca Lito and Asia Asia are all popular options.

Visit Bluewaters Island

A more recent addition to Dubai, Bluewaters Island is a self-styled ‘lifestyle destination’ that contains residential, retail, leisure and entertainment areas. It sits just opposite the Marina, with popular spots including Dubai’s own Caesar’s Palace, Hell’s Kitchen and Madame Tussauds. Linked to The Beach by a 300-metre walkway, the island provides walks along the coastline, though its defining spot is definitely the Ain Dubai, a 250-metre tall ferris wheel – with 47 separate pods – that is the tallest in the world.

Where to stay in Dubai Marina

The Marina and it surrounding areas contain a variety of places to stay that cater to different budgets.

Though there aren’t a plethora of affordable options in the city (especially during peak season), if you want exceptional views of the Marina and the Arabian Gulf at more affordable prices, try the Wyndham Dubai Marina. Located at the southwestern corner of the water, the hotel features 493 air-conditioned rooms, a spa and an outdoor swimming pool.

Hotel Amenities

Health & wellbeing.

There are several options within the mid-100s to £250-a-night range. Grosvenor House is a particularly good option at the lower end; situated on the promenade, you can enjoy stand-out city views from many of its modern, minimalist rooms or the bar on the 44th floor. To add to the luxury, the hotel also has two swimming pools , two restaurants and free guest access to a sister hotel, Le Royal Meridien.

Although more expensive, the Taj Exotica Resort & Spa offers one of the more affordable stays on the Palm Jumeirah. Rooms are elegant and contemporary, and each comes with a balcony. It also has its own pool, fitness centre and tennis courts, plus a long section of private beach.

There’s no shortage of options for those who want to fork out vast sums on a hotel stay. The Waldorf Astoria is at the lower end of this scale; located on the Palm Jumeirah, it has sophisticated rooms with large balconies offering exceptional views of the Gulf. The hotel has its own section of private beach to add to a fitness centre, spa, water sports centre and three pools.

Top 10 Attractions To Visit In Dubai Marina

In the United Arab Emirates, a huge vision took shape in 1999: the comprehensive plan for Dubai Marina, a dense, urban, and international mixed-use development near the city's southern end.

Top 10 Attractions To Visit In Dubai Marina

Visit The Beach

Take a breakfast or bbq yacht tour, a helicopter tour will provide you with aerial views, dine al fresco in world-class restaurants, watch sunset, dubai marina mall, dubai marina walk, ride the ferry, go zip- lining, take a traditional abra water taxi ride.

The ambitious plan was realized as a 50-million-square-foot waterfront city cut over a two-mile length of Arabian Gulf beachfront. It's a canal city within a city, complete with a carved-from-the-desert center waterway, luxury skyscrapers, pocket parks, and recreational zones.'

Dubai Marina is known as "New Dubai." Dubai was formerly a tiny harbor town. It is presently the most populous city in the UAE.  Dubai Marina exemplifies the magnitude of change that this capital city has seen in recent years. When finished, this multiphase project will house nearly 120,000 individuals in its towers, lofts, and villas.

Today, a cluster of over 180 glistening and aesthetically astonishing structures rise up, providing a striking skyline overlooking the man-made harbor, some of which are among the world's highest residential skyscrapers.

Landscaped pathways connect the towers. The way of life is dynamic. The Walk, a mile-long promenade dotted with stores and outdoor cafés parallel to the shore, provides an ideal perspective position to see mega yachts sail. The premium Dubai Marina Mall, with 140 shops, is one of the largest in Dubai.

Dubai Marina was the Emirate's first construction to enable non-residents to purchase a freehold property, and it quickly established itself in the local real estate market. It is currently one of 23 such authorized zones, which explains the large proportion of foreigners. Dubai is recognized as a gateway to the Middle East, and Dubai Marina has quickly proven itself as a preferred choice for foreign investors.

From the Dubai Metro Station to the water taxis, there is no shortage of travel options in the marina region. A journey on the Dubai Ferry, on the other hand, is one of the greatest ways to discover Dubai.

Dubai Marina provides a one-of-a-kind water taxi background, complete with traditional Abra boats, hand-carved wood, and complex curves. These boats may be summoned from large hotels or retail districts, giving a picturesque route from A to B. Those who prefer not to travel by boat might take a sunset Abra excursion. For those who prefer a more conventional approach, Dubai Marina Station may be a better alternative.

Dubai Marina is a man-made metropolis that stretches over three kilometers along the Persian Gulf shoreline. This marina claims to be the world's largest of its sort.

During building in the early 2000s, a totally new shoreline was constructed, surrounded by more than 8 kilometers of public walkways. These manicured sections include Dubai Marina Walk, which is home to a diverse range of boutique boutiques, gyms, restaurants, and other amenities.

Dubai Marina also has several of the best representations of high-rise architecture in the world, starting with the internationally recognized Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR). The Dubai Marina Towers are another remarkable sight. All of this contributes to a spectacular skyline, especially around sunset.

Sky Dubai is an indoor ski resort, complete with actual snow! Ski Dubai, one of the best places to visit in Dubai with kids, guarantees that the entire family has a good time. However, the activities here are also geared at adrenaline enthusiasts.

For a thrilling experience, race down the twin-track bobsled run or the world's first indoor black diamond run. Book a lesson at the park's ski school if you're new to winter sports. There's also a cross-country skiing course if you want to take it easy.

When you're ready to warm up from the cold snow, visit one of the on-site cafés or eateries. Ride the Ski Dubai chairlift for a bird's eye perspective of the whole park. Seasoned.

Yes, Dubai Marina is well-known for being a secure destination to visit, even for single tourists. The evening is a popular time to explore the upmarket eateries and cultural attractions that can be found at every turn.

Beach access is available at Dubai Marina, at least along Al Sufouh/Mina Seyahi, JBR/The Walk, and Bluewaters. There is a fountain, a mall, and a tower in downtown. Dubai Marina is located on the city's southern outskirts, approximately half an hour (or more) from Downtown, Old Dubai, and SZR.

Investigate Marina Beach. Marina, one of Dubai's beehive of hustle and bustle, is one of the city's hotspots. And, with the beach as one of its main attractions, it's a perfect spot to come and immerse up some rays without paying a dirham.

Although Dubai is a notably multicultural city, it is vital to wear modestly in public settings in order to respect local customs by avoiding exposed shoulders and midriffs. If you're going to the beach, bring your favorite swimsuits and bikinis regardless of as you have something to cover up with afterwards.

13 best things to do in Dubai

T he most tourist-friendly destination of the United Arab Emirates, Dubai continues to attract and enthrall visitors from around the world.

The sprawling desert metropolis is known for its luxury hotels, duty-free shopping and general glitz and glamour, but it offers a far wider scope of activities and attractions than its reputation suggests.

A picture of ultra-modern architecture, soaring skyscrapers and the blue waters of the Persian Gulf, the city (and emirate) also possesses several well-preserved local sites and attractions of historic and cultural significance, from the Jumeirah Mosque to Alserkal Avenue.

This makes for a city with an abundance and wide-ranging variety of things to do; whether you want to explore historic districts, wander the world’s largest mall or have dinner in the desert, Dubai should have something to catch your attention.

So whether you’ve already booked your trip or are still caught in two minds, fear not; we’ve rounded up a list of some of the best things to do in Dubai.

Visit the Burj Khalifa, Dubai Fountain and Marina

The world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa is a modern symbol of Dubai and one of its most visited sites. Standing at 830 metres tall, anyone can visit the observation deck, named ‘At The Top’, on the 124th floor of the building (and at a height of 452 metres) for a panoramic view of the city and its marina.

At the foot of the building lies the Burj Khalifa lake, a 30-acre artificial lake that is mostly known as the home of the Dubai Fountain. This 270-metre tall fountain is the tallest performing fountain in the world, with light shows consisting of over 6,000 lights dancing to different songs, ranging from classical Arab to contemporary world pop. These two structures are perhaps the highlights of the Dubai Marina, a man-made marina with a waterside promenade, its own mall and dozens of shops, cafes and restaurants.

Discover the city’s Old Town

Away from the malls and skyscrapers, you’ll find Dubai’s characterful ‘Old Town’. Traditional buildings, local markets and cultural centres are the draw here, with several of the city’s best districts contained within the area. There’s nowhere better to start than Al Fahidi, a historic neighbourhood where gypsum buildings and wind towers have been restored to provide a contrasting reminder of the city’s old skyline. The Al Fahidi Fort is the oldest building in Dubai – built in 1871 – while the Centre for Cultural Understanding provides opportunities for visitors to learn about Emirati culture. Other notable sites in the area include the city’s Coffee Museum and the Arabian Tea House, a highly rated cafe serving traditional Emirati cuisine.

Al Seef, along the Dubai Creek waterside, is a blend of the old and new, where more gypsum buildings and narrow, winding streets meet more modern buildings and a background of skyscrapers. Across the Creek lies Deira, a district renowned for its traditional souks (more on them later).

Visit the Jumeirah Mosque

Built in a Fatimid style (a mix of Syrian and Egyptian architectural styles characterised by keel-shaped arches, columns and ornamentation among other things), the Jumeirah Mosque opened in 1979 and can accommodate 1,500 worshippers. Easily recognisable with its two towering minarets, it is one of the only mosques in the UAE that is open to non-Muslims (and the general public) and has guided visits and opportunities to learn about Islam, its customs and history. The mosque is open every day other than Friday; be sure to adhere to dress codes, although the website does say that Kandooras (Emirati national dress for men), Abayas (national dress for women) and Sheilas (head scarves) are available to borrow.

Sail across Dubai Creek

The location where many of the first settlers made their home – and an early port – Dubai Creek lies at the heart of the city. Separating the Deira area from Bur Dubai, it is now a popular tourist attraction for the boats – named abras – that you can travel across the water in for just 1 AED (around 21p). There are two routes across; the first is from Deira Old Souk Abra Station to Bur Dubai, while the second, busier route goes from Al Sabkha to Dubai Old Souk. Each crossing takes around five minutes, giving travellers exceptional views of both the old and new parts of the city.

Go shopping in the world’s largest mall

Situated next to the Burj Khalifa, the Dubai Mall is the world’s largest shopping mall, with over 1,200 shops covering over half-a-million square metres. Visitors can expect anything from luxury stores to well-known international brands and American department stores, with over 200 different places to eat once you’re done shopping. For kids, the mall even houses an aquarium, ‘underwater zoo’ and go kart track, while the entire area is mercifully air conditioned in the summer months.

Go on a desert safari (or have a romantic desert dinner)

Several companies offer excursions into the desert surrounding Dubai, from camel riding and barbecue buffets to quad biking and overnight stays in tents. Spending a day rolling across the golden dunes offers an adventurous alternative to strolling around malls, whether you choose to go on a leisurely drive, dune buggy over the sands or visit conservation reserves to see flora and fauna. As night falls, visitors can watch the sunset while enjoying an unforgettable lamp-lit meal among the dunes. Combine this with an overnight stay to really experience the best of what Dubai’s desert has to offer.

Explore the souks

Dubai’s souks are a legendary form of traditional Arab market. Some of them are among the most well-known attractions in Dubai, selling an enticing range of products, from spice mixes to gold and hand-woven local crafts. Many of these are housed in the aforementioned Deira district (some stops for the abras are named after them), including the Gold Souk, Spice Souk and Perfume Souk.

The Gold Souk is arguably Dubai’s most famous market, a beacon for those in search of gold, silver and fine jewellery, while the Spice Souk offers, as you’d expect, a colourful array of spices and dried herbs. The Textile Souk (found across the Creek in Bur Dubai) is a network of covered alleyways offering clothing, shawls and souvenirs made from fabrics including silk, wool and cashmere.

There are also a handful of modern souks, built to provide a different shopping experience. The Madinat Jumeirah is prime among them; part of the Madinat Jumeirah resort, it was built to mirror the traditional aspects and architecture of a souk but also offers galleries, restaurants and shops. The Ripe Markets – Dubai’s take on farmer’s markets – run in different locations around the city, with street stalls and boutiques selling organic foods and fresh produce.

Head to the beach

Beaches may not be the first thing that springs to mind when thinking about Dubai, but with the weather sometimes sweltering, you may well appreciate a dip in the sea. The hundreds of miles of beaches here range from free-to-access stretches to exclusive beach clubs.

JBR beach is the city’s busiest – a long stretch of golden sand with a backdrop of the city’s skyscrapers and the Ain wheel – while Jumeirah Open Beach is a more relaxed alternative. Kite Beach is another free-access area, an eight-mile stretch of white sand that is also a trendy area for pop-up shops, food trucks and cafes. For a tranquil spot, try Sunset Beach; the city’s only decent surfing beach, it offers great sunset vistas and a particularly enviable view of the Burj Al Arab.

Beach clubs are common too, for those looking to up the glam factor. Nikki Beach has a location in Dubai, while other reputed clubs include Azure Beach, DRIFT and Riva. Most clubs have pools and served a range of food, with entry prices ranging from around £15 to over £65.

Learn about the UAE at the Etihad Museum

Open since 2016, the Etihad Museum showcases contemporary Emirati history at the site where the UAE was founded in 1971. The museum’s eight pavilions hold a range of artefacts and interactive guides, from personal possessions of the rulers to the first written version of the country’s constitution. Other exhibitions focus on pictures of the developing nation, documentaries, interactive maps and a homage to the important moments before 1971.

Tickets for the museum cost roughly £5, and it’s recommended to spend at least an hour there to have a good nose around. Last ticket sales are at 7pm ahead of an 8pm closing time.

Go on an adventure in Hatta

If you care to venture beyond the desert, you’ll find the mountainous Hatta region. Located in the Hajar mountains (roughly 80 miles from the city itself), the region contains a Heritage Village, a centuries-old restored village that retains its defensive tower, stone houses and traditional falaj water system. Dramatic mountains offer scenic hiking and mountain biking opportunities, while canoeing, kayaking and boat rides are available on the emerald lakes (such as the one by Hatta Dam).

Take in the culture of Alserkal Avenue

Though the grey and blue warehouses of Alserkal (in the Al Quoz district) may not look too inspiring from the outside, in reality these buildings house dozens of art galleries, cafes and shops. The city’s artistic hub, Alserkal offers myriad surprises for visitors, whether stumbling across an independent records shop (The Flip Side) or watching indie films at Cinema Akil.

Popular galleries include the Green Art gallery, 1X1 and Carbon 12, while creative spaces such as Kave: The Story of Things host workshops including guitar making and embroidery. Food options, meanwhile, range from vegan tacos to handmade Belgian chocolate.

Get golfing

Golf in Dubai caters for everyone, from seasoned golf travellers to total amateurs, with activities ranging from championship courses to Top Golf driving ranges. The city plays host to several professional tournaments, and its climate offers the perfect weather for getting out onto the greens (when summer temperatures soar to unbearable heights, many courses offer the opportunity to play at night under floodlights).

Regardless of level, the opportunity to play surrounded by sea, sun and skyscrapers is not one to be missed. Some of the city’s premier courses include the Trump International, Dubai Creek, Emirates Golf Club and Jumeirah Golf Estates, with green fees anywhere between £20 to £175.

Visit a theme park

Dubai has a whole host of theme parks and waterparks to keep kids (and big kids) happy during their visit. One for both adults and children, Global Village is a park with several pavilions, shows and dining areas that showcase culture from 90 different countries across the world, while the IMG Adventure Park is the world’s largest indoor theme park, with dozens of rides and areas relating to Marvel characters, Cartoon Network and the ‘Lost Valley’ of dinosaurs.

The Hollywood-inspired Motiongate has several rides inspired by blockbuster classics, from Shrek to The Hunger Games , while the city’s Legoland park is another popular choice, home to over 40 rides and attractions and six themed lands, plus its own waterpark. On the subject of waterparks, Dubai has several: Wild Wadi, Aquaventure and Laguna are some of the best, with wave pools, 18-metre waterfalls, lazy rivers and even a 34-metre tall tower ride among the highlights.

A new free exit has been opened in Dubai Marina and it is expected to cut travel time by 60 per cent, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) said on Tuesday.

Motorists will now be able to take the new exit from Al Seba St towards the intersection of Qarn Al Sabkha St, the authority said.

Aimed at easing congestion in the area, the project comes as part of the RTA's efforts to improve traffic flow.

The RTA has been working on several projects that all seek to create a smoother drive for the emirate's motorists. Earlier this week, new dedicated bus lanes were announced for six busy streets: Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah, 2nd of December, Al Satwa, Al Nahda, Omar bin Al Khattab, and Naif. These are set for completion between 2025 and 2027.

Five new flyovers will also rise on Dubai's Al Khail Road. Once completed, the Dh700-million project launched in February would slash travel time by 30 per cent.
