prins in de mix tour

Reminisce: Prins in the Mix Tour 2021!

Saturday 2 October we ushered in the late summer with the Prins in the Mix Veluwe ride, and what a wonderful mix of Prins customers and 37 (!) cars it was! The beautiful memories are only reserved for the participants, you will have to make do with these photos..

prins in de mix tour

The name says it all: every Prince car was welcome for a nice ride across the Veluwe with a particularly mixed group during this “home race”. Not only the company was successful, both the route and the weather left little to be desired! A barista provided the coffee, a top chef provided the lunch, the media team provided the photos and video and a bbq chef provided the last tasty snacks! As far as osn is concerned, on to the next one!! Are you there?

PRINS "Goodbye to The Old Me" Tour

PRINS "Goodbye to The Old Me" Tour

New Zealand's Chart Topping Artist PRINS embarks on her 1st World Tour that brings her to North America in the summer of 2023 kicking off in Montreal at Le Ministere and ending in NYC. She will be joined on tour by Billboard Top 40 Artist Jace Martin and Canada R&B Star JRDN.

PRINS is a multi-talented pop act born in New Zealand and based in London. She has quickly established herself as a breakout star in the music world, with massive charting success in her home country. PRINS's unique blend of pop and electronic dance has earned her critical acclaim and a devoted following.

PRINS' music is characterized by powerful vocals, infectious beats, and thought-provoking lyrics. She has received large editorial support from Spotify, including features on the New Music Friday, Fresh Finds, and Salt playlists. Her singles "That's the Thing x," "On The Low (shh!)," "Hazardous," and "Something New" have all broken into the NZ top 10 charts, establishing her as one of the most promising new voices in pop music.

PRINS is renowned for her electrifying live performances, which have been critically acclaimed at major festivals such as Bay Dreams, Electric Avenue, and Soundsplash. With a mix of powerhouse vocals, dynamic dance moves, and a contagious energy, PRINS' live shows are a must-see experience.

PRINS's music has been featured in Rolling Stone magazine, further solidifying her position as a rising star in the music world. Her debut EP, "LIFE IS BETTER NOW," was released in 2022 to great success, opening at #10 on the NZ album charts.

Emerging Canadian R&B/hip-hop star Jordan Croucher is making up for a late start in his music career in a big way with the soulful songs from his forthcoming second album.

Croucher grew up in Halifax and Toronto and, even though it was evident that the youngster had an excellent voice, music took a back seat to basketball in high school and at St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia — which led to a year playing professionally in France.

Croucher elected to give up on his hoop dreams and re-immersed himself in music by working with Halifax producer Trobiz and recording mix tapes with the groups N.E.P. and Triple Threat. He eventually hooked up with multi-Juno Award-nominated artist/producer Classified (Luke Boyd), who produced Croucher’s 2007 debut album, No Dress Code.

The 13-track record spawned the hit singles and videos "Selfish Times," "Feelin’ Fine," "So Addicted," "Won’t Let Go" and "It’s Raining." It also earned Croucher a CBC Galaxie Rising Star prize, an East Coast Music Award nomination and an appearance on the CBC Television special, Barenaked East Coast Music. He toured across Canada with the likes of Maestro and opened for such international stars as Ne-Yo, Snoop Dogg, Rihanna, Nas and Juelz Santana.

With Croucher’s undeniable talents as a singer and lyricist, his good looks and solid citizenry, it should be no surprise that he’s now poised to take the next step up the music ladder using the name JRDN. He’s been working with Toronto’s Grammy Award-nominated Kuya Productions songwriting and production team, who’ve worked with some of the biggest names in the business, including Nelly, Mase, Ginuwine, Jesse McCartney, Nicole Scherzinger and Akon.

Croucher has spent time in New York City, Los Angeles, Atlanta and various Canadian outposts writing and recording songs for his sophomore album. Since he’s adopted the abbreviated stage name and surrounded himself with all new people since No Dress Code, Croucher in some ways sees his forthcoming LP as another debut effort. There’s a noticeable difference in the sonics between the old and new material, and Croucher has also turned a page lyrically.

"On the first album, I talked about family and friends and my life," explains Croucher. "But on this one, I’m talking about the women in my life."

The hook-filled lead single "U Can Have It All" has just arrived at radio and is garnering very positive reactions. The song’s video has a surprising twist at the end that Croucher reveals was inspired by The Jackson 5’s 1971 hit, "Sugar Daddy."

Another new song that Croucher is particularly excited about is "High Definition," about which he says: "I think it defines me as an R&B guy. Every R&B guy has to have that one love song that really raises a woman on a pedestal, and I think this is it."

Croucher may not have soared as high as namesake Michael Jordan on the basketball court, but the sky’s the limit as far as JRDN’s music career is concerned. All signs indicate that he really can have it all.

Prince Royce: Tiny Desk (Home) Concert

Anamaria Artemisa Sayre.

From Sept. 15 through Oct. 15, Tiny Desk is celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with an "El Tiny" takeover of the (home) concert series, featuring J Balvin, Camila Cabello and several more musicians from all corners of Latinidad.

After years spent working the global stage, Prince Royce returns home to claim his rightful throne in this Tiny Desk (home) concert. Performing his entire "El Tiny" set live from an unassuming barbershop chair in The Bronx, the Dominican-American superstar dazzles in this homecoming performance with the unguarded swagger characteristic of a true rey de la gente.

Prince Royce instantly grips ears and hearts with a stunning performance of "Corazón Sin Cara." Leading with buttery vocals and easy electric guitar riffs, he serves smooth verses with the kind of suave appeal that would leave any viewer wanting to be a bachata princess. Transitioning between tracks with a sweet note about representing la cultura, he dives straight in with more traditional bachata beats in a performance of his recent release "Carita de Inocente."

The barbershop is where the prince discovered the building blocks to create an empire in the image of a people and culture that feel like home. In an intimate moment between songs, Prince Royce shares that it was where he would go to hear what people were listening to in the streets — bachata, merengue, mambo. His New York Dominican sound feels natural in the space.

"Porque me recuerda a mis inicios (because it reminds me of my beginnings)," he says of his choice in stage.

From there he delivers "Lao o Lao," an impassioned song about willingly giving up lavish objects for love. He closes out the show with a performance of a tropical, legacy pick "Darte un Beso."

Prince Royce's "El Tiny" concert makes it easy to imagine a curly-haired kid sitting in that same, too-big-for-him silla, dreaming of a day when the chair would fit just right and he could come back to his barrio and own the seat as royalty.

Prince Made ‘Welcome 2 America’ in 2010. It Speaks to 2021.

A full album has emerged from Prince’s vault that balances hard insights with visceral joys.

prins in de mix tour

By Jon Pareles

It’s almost as if Prince knew what lay ahead.

In 2010, Prince recorded but then shelved a finished album, “Welcome 2 America,” which was full of bleak reflections on the state of the nation. It arrives Friday as the Prince estate continues to open up Prince’s vault of unreleased music since his death in 2016. Unlike much of what has emerged so far, it’s a complete, stand-alone album — a disillusioned statement that sounds all too fitting in 2021.

“Welcome 2 America” was made two years into the Obama administration, and Prince didn’t see much progress. In the title track, women sing, “Hope and change”; then Prince dryly observes, “Everything takes forever/The truth is a new minority.”

The songs take on racism, exploitation, disinformation, celebrity, faith and capitalism: “21st century, it’s still about greed and fame,” Prince sings in “Running Game (Son of a Slave Master).” Eleven years after the album was recorded — as the 2020s have brought bitter divisiveness, blatant racism, battles over history and a digital hellscape of hyped consumption and algorithmically boosted lies — Prince doesn’t sound pessimistic, just matter-of-fact.

“Welcome 2 America” wasn’t made casually. It’s one of Prince’s more collaborative albums, constructed in discrete stages with different cohorts of musicians. Prince started out recording instrumental tracks — without vocals or lyrics — live in the studio with Tal Wilkenfeld on bass and Chris Coleman on drums. Then he worked with the singers Shelby J. (for Johnson), Liv Warfield and Elisa Fiorillo, sharing leads and harmonies with them. Morris Hayes, billed as Mr. Hayes, added keyboards and intricately jazzy simulated string and horn arrangements, earning credit as co-producer for six of the album’s 12 songs. Prince also did some final tweaking, including a rewrite of the title track.

But Prince had already released one album in 2010 — “20Ten” — and his attention turned to forming a new live band (including Mr. Hayes and the three backup singers) that would tour the world for the next two years. The American portion was called the “Welcome 2 America” tour, but the album stayed unreleased. (The deluxe version of “Welcome 2 America” includes a Blu-ray of a jubilant 2011 arena show in Inglewood, Calif.)

“Welcome 2 America” makes its way from the bitter derision of its title track toward a guarded optimism, with detours — it’s a Prince album after all — into physical pleasures. The title song telegraphs its mood with its first notes: a snake hiss of cymbals and a bass line that inches upward, skulks back down and then plunges further, against a backdrop of ambiguous chords and synthesizer swoops. The track edges toward funk, and the women sing, but Prince doesn’t; he simply talks, deadpan, about information overload, high-tech distractions, privilege, fame and culture, asking, “Think today’s music will last?” Singing in harmony, the women amend an American motto to “Land of the free, home of the slave.”

In the cryptic “1010 (Rin Tin Tin),” Prince asks, “What could be stranger than the times we’re in?” over skeletal, choppy piano chords, and he goes on to decry “too much information” and a “wilderness of lies.” With “Running Game (Son of a Slave Master),” Prince confronts a microcosm of rich vs. poor: the way the music business takes advantage of newcomers.

Yet as usual in Prince’s catalog, “Welcome 2 America” balances hard insights with visceral joys. He sings about pointless conflicts over religion in “Same Page, Different Book” — “So much more in common if you’d only look,” he insists — but his lyrics about rocks, missiles and car bombs arrive backed by crisp syncopations. In “1000 Light Years From Here,” he puts breezy Latin funk behind reminders of Black perseverance, touching on the subprime mortgage crisis and the 2008 financial-sector meltdown: “We can live underwater/It ain’t hard when you’ve never been a part/Of the country on dry land.” Prince put new lyrics to “1000 Light Years” as an upbeat coda to the even more pointed “Black Muse” — a song about slavery, injustice and America’s debt to Black culture — on the last album he released during his lifetime, “HitnRun Phase Two.”

Prince pauses the sociopolitical commentary for “Check the Record,” a rock-funk stomp about infidelity, and for “When She Comes,” a sensual falsetto ballad marveling in a woman’s ecstasy. (Prince also reworked “When She Comes” for “HitnRun Phase Two,” emphasizing male technique instead.)

As the album ends, Prince calls for positive thinking. “Yes” reaches back to the supercharged gospel-rock of Sly and the Family Stone. After that tambourine-shaking peak, “One Day We Will All B Free” eases into reassuring, midtempo soul. But the “Yes” that Prince calls for is an affirmation that “We can turn the page/As long as they ain’t movin’ us to a bigger cage,” and “One Day We Will All B Free” is also a warning about unquestioning belief in what churches and schools teach. Prince saw a long struggle ahead.
