We are located at the first stop for waterfowl on the largest migration corridor in North America. Virtually all the land north of us is provincial forest so the rich farmland that begins here at Goose Haven Outfitters is the first feeding spot for migrating waterfowl. This agricultural grain belt spreads south from our location to form the prairie pothole region, which is known as "the duck factory."
The area is PERFECT for waterfowl hunting. We offer spectacular goose and duck hunting. Each year the sky fills with migrating waterfowl eager to replenish their energy stores for their flight south – and they pile in! As the premier waterfowl outfitters, we pride ourselves in offering the absolute best goose and duck hunting in Canada. The sheer numbers of ducks and geese that converge on Goose Haven is truly something to witness.
Our Canada goose hunts are typically in wheat, barley, oat or pea fields. The duck hunts are a mix of field and water hunts. We go where the birds are. Thorough scouting is a key to our success. We find the waterfowl, determine the spots that offer the best goose or duck hunts, and that is where you hunt. You will hunt in a different location every day. Everyone knows waterfowl hunting in Canada is excellent, but Saskatchewan waterfowl hunting at our location is even better.

Our Riverside Lodge is located near the confluence of two rivers, the Beaver and the Meadow. Lodge location was chosen for its proximity to both huntable and watchable wildlife and it is truly a unique and special place. Situated on the edge of the forest line, our lodge provides for easy access to the agricultural lands to the south and to the lakes, rivers, and forest uplands to the north. There is a large Ducks Unlimited Marsh Project near the lodge which attracts a wide range of wildlife right to the front lawn. It truly is Goose Haven! Goose Haven Canada Outfitters is not just a fantastic hunting trip, it is an awesome experience. The lodge is stocked with fresh baked pastries, muffins and cookies. We have everything to fulfill your hunting needs. At Big Spruce Outfitting we strive on keeping our customers happy and if you, the hunter, are not happy than neither are we. Our hunting area consists of forestry/farmland fringe which is a deadly combination for monster Saskatchewan whitetail’s. At Big Spruce we run a lot of stands making our options endless. This allows us to manage our deer properly and only harvest the big mature bucks. Having such a big hunting area makes it easy to pin point mature deer and let the smaller animals grow and harvest a trophy in the future. Black bear are not to be left out either, with low hunter numbers in our guided areas it allows them to grow big and mature. The rich abundance of farmland is the perfect place for these bears to pack on the weight. With so many bears in the area we are really starting to see a lot of chocolate and cinnamon bears as well. Last but certainly not least is our amazing waterfowl hunts. With most of our set ups only 5-10 mins from the Big Spruce Lodge. We are located in some of the best Canada goose and mallard duck hunting areas around. There is nothing like a cool crisp fall morning with flock after flock of geese and ducks in the sky as you lay in the blinds waiting to “light em up boys”.

Frequently Asked Questions
Smoky Burn Outfitting prides itself on having expert guides for hunting and fishing in the Great Saskatchewan, Canadian Outdoors! To help you get trophy wild game it’s best to come prepared. Here are some FAQ’s we get asked. If you have any other questions please contact us today or visit our resources section.
BEAR HUNTS: If you are hunting with a bow in bear season and do not have a rifle with you can wear camo and no colours need to be worn. WHITETAIL DEER: If you are hunting whitetail with a bow in October, you can wear camo- no colours are needed. If you are hunting with a bow in November, when the rifle season is on, you must wear colours.
All that is needed for colours is a blaze orange vest – “NEW”. A orange hat or toque will also be required.
Yes, we have some heaters, if you want to ensure you have a heater it is best to bring your own. We do not supply propane.
In the past five years, the weather seems to have warmed up a lot. Temperatures in the morning can be below freezing. The appropriate clothing is your best option to keep you comfortable. In extreme weather we have heaters.
We have all kinds of stands. We use ladder stands, lock on, permanent tree stands, ground blinds, elevated blinds (8-10 feet up) and 1-man pop up tent blinds.
The rut in Saskatchewan can run any time in November. The pre-rut is usually in the second week in November with bucks chasing. Doe’s usually are not receptive. Week 3 and 4 in November usually brings the peak rut activity. In recent years, the weather seems to affect the rut a little more!
The most common calibre is a 300. 7mm is also common. The bucks in our area have tremendous body size, so you want some knock down power.
When you harvest your trophy, we cape the animal and freeze the hide and clean up the skull for transport back home with you.
