The insurance company who can't handle their own claims!

As others, I would have given zero if I could. Sainsbury themselves don't appear to have the guts to face their customers when they claim - they outsource the whole lot, perhaps hoping that their policy of avoiding paying out only affects the reputation of their claims handlers not their own lovely high street name. Its October 2022 - I put in my claim in December 2021. Still not settled. I have called numerous times, sometimes someone even answered, then was promised a call back - this never happened. Their online claims forms prevent you from giving proper details of what you are claiming for and when they do bother addressing you they've got it all twisted what you're claiming for. I have had repeated boiler plate emails (but we're talking at 2 month intervals) apologising for the delay due to the pandemic up until October 2022. They work from home still! I live in London - the City has been booming for 6 months with people working in the office - what pandemic? This company should not be allowed to be in business as they don't achieve their basic function for existing - handling claims. This is unless their raison d'être is to avoid paying out to customers. I won't rant but I can think of too many bad adjectives to describe them.

DO NOT GET IT

I had an issue on my trip last December, and till today I sent my documents more than 10 times. Every time they say the documents have not arrived in our mailbox! Of course, after 10-12 days delay. No one answers! no one is responsible! DO NOT GET IT.

No response

Claimed for flight delay in August 2023. It's now December and not even an acknowledgement.

What's The Point

Like others have reviewed, it really is pointless having travel insurance with SB. You're better off saving the Premium and using that towards an inevitable flight cancellation etc that they'll refuse to provide any compensation for anyway.

I am having a nightmare with…Sainsbury's Home insurance

I am having a nightmare with sainsbury's insurance when they took out my policy they accidentally took 3 lots of the premium rather than the one .when i informed them of the issue they accepted that they had an error and would reimburse the extra two amounts . A few days later i checked my account to notice that only one amount NOT two was reimbursed ,I called them to complain and was informed that they would not reimburse the second amount on the method of payment i had used and instead would only reimburse me via my current Bank Account via First Direct and that i had to over the phone give up my bank details which i said no pay me back as is customary on the method of payment i had initially used as they had done the first wrong debit. THEY SAID NO ! its now been 8 weeks and still they refuse to pay my money back via the initial payment method . Each time i ask why not they give me a completely different excuse ...this is absolutely unacceptable i am a client and im being treated poorly .I complained to my bank and they agreed it was wrong and on my behalf agreed to chase it up for me only to be told the Monies had been repaid which is a total lie . I am very upset and disappointed this is poor customer service .

There is no 0 stars

There is no 0 stars Auto-renewed last year at a FORTUNE and was too late for me to change. This year tried to charge me double what the other quotes I received were. Told them I want to cancel - want to charge me £52 to do so (my insurance expires next month) DREADFUL company!!!!

DIRE CUSTOMER SERVICE

Bought travel insurance and paid for it online. They sent me everything but the certificate of insurance. To get the certificate of insurance I had to register with the bank. In trying to register with the bank I had to create a password. Using their guidance I completed my password only to have it rejected umpteen times. At the same time I was trying to phone their 'contact us' phone number. After 2 hours I discovered through trial and error that one of the characters they said could be used for a password could not be used, and still nobody picked up my call to them. I left a voice message for a call back to deal with my problem. I got the call back while I was away traveling. I missed the call so did not pick up, but there was a voice mail saying to ring their customer services. I phoned customer services, the call was picked up and the line immediately went dead. Thankfully I had no need to use the insurance policy. Goodness knows what it would have been like if I needed to call them in an emergency. I am left with a sense that this is a case of 'we've got your money, now we'll make it as hard as possible for you get in touch'. WOULD NEVER USE THIS COMPANY AGAIN.

Awful company, terrible experience

What an awful company - daylight robbery, price hike following change of car despite being advised this wouldn’t be the case, appalling customer service, complaints team don’t actually speak to customers, terrible experience. Would not recommend to my worst enemy!

amazed at how useless this awful company is

I have just raised a complaint with Sainsbury's as they use csa for travel insurance, i took out the top level of insurance paying 3 times the amount of the nearest quote and despite providing everything from documents/ emails from the airline verifying our luggage went missing on a flight/receipts phot's etc we are still waiting for them to process the claim, 5 months later they are still asking for information i sent to them in the first week, its as if they are a scam company, an absolute joke, ill be using the ombudsman to look into them after this as they really are pathetic. avoid at all costs.

Appalling Service from Sainsbury's Home Insurance AVOID AVOID AVOID!…

Appalling Service from Sainsbury's Home Insurance. Purchased a buildings and contents insurance in September 2022. Unable to access my documents online or via app despite registering with them and having an existing account for car insurance. Unable to contact anyone by 'phone for 7 days only to be told I had to register again or call back? I asked for my documents to be posted. I did call back after my documents didn't arrive (they have since) and was told my home insurance documents had been put in my old car insurance file which is why I couldn't access them? By that time I'd had enough and decided to cancel. To add insult to injury, I was told there would be a £20 cancellation fee despite being within the 14 day cooling offer period and the fact that the insurance wasn't yet active? Apparently, it's in their T and C's but how was I to know that when I couldn't access my documents? My documents finally arrived (no T and C's) and there were errors not made by me on the Statement of Fact Summary? I was incensed by this time and decided to make a formal complaint but there was no email to contact them so I had to join the lengthy queue on the 'phone once again and the person I spoke to made the complaint on my behalf as she wasn't allowed to give me an email address? I received a letter after a few days which was very condescending and dismissive saying they wouldn't be refunding my £20 cancellation fee again quoting their T and C's again. I replied informing them there were errors on my documents which were not made by me asking them what is the point of having a cooling of period if the customer is penalised for cancelling the insurance within the 14 day cooling off period and when the policy isn't even active yet? To date, there has been no reply. I'm contacting the Insurance Ombudsman, especially after reading these reviews from other unhappy customers. I only wish I had seen the reviews for this company before I purchased the home insurance. I have to say AVOID THIS COMPANY they are unprofessional and deserve the reputation they have been given!

Please avoid Sainsburys Travel Insurance

Please avoid Sainsburys Travel Insurance - it is absolutely not fit for purpose and we will not use them again. We booked to go to the Canaries in April and had a comprehensive travel insurance along with enhanced Covid cover which we have had for the last two years. Unfortunately on the day we were due to travel I came down with Covid and was too unwell to travel. I am a diabetic (which is declared on my policy) and not only was I not fit to travel but did not want to even attempt to do so thus putting others at risk and possibly needing medical treatment abroad as being diabetic can risk Covid complications. I registered the Covid test immediately with the NHS and took a timed photo of the test strip. I informed TUI who considered it a no-show rather than a cancellation as I became too unwell to travel on the day itself. I completed all the claims paperwork and submitted with the claim, as requested, an email from TUI confirming the no-show and confirming also that we received no compensation from TUI and no money refunded from them either. Sainsburys Insurance Claims company are difficult to contact, extremely unhelpful and keep sending us emails asking either for information we have already sent them originally or for the same information in a different format. TUI are unable to give us any more than their original official email confirming the no-show and confirming that we have had no compensation but nearly two months since we were due to travel we still have not had our claim settled and the claims company seem to want to do everything in their power to delay dealing with it. It seems the only option may be for us to go down a legal route to get our money back if this is not settled soon. This is damaging Sainsburys reputation and I am surprised they feel treating customers so poorly is acceptable. We have been with Sainsburys travel insurance for many years prior to Covid and have been lucky enough not to have had to make a claim but they have certainly let us down in our hour of need and made an already stressful experience so much worse. Insurance should be there if the worst happens and needs to be fit for purpose. There is no point in having it at all if you cannot claim for a genuine emergency and have that claim dealt with professionally and in a reasonable time frame.

If I could put 0 I would

If I could put 0 I would, they will try to get out of the claim in any way possible and they will try not to pay you. Avoid

Took Sainsbury's travel insurance out…

Took Sainsbury's travel insurance out after looking on compare who rated them good, not the cheapest but I went with a recognised brand, whilst abroad I had my phone stolen, when I returned I filled in the claims form, I then started receiving email from a company called Taurus who are a subsidiary of Sainsbury's, I sent the info they required, two days later they requested more info, this went on for two weeks, then the requests just became odd ( can you send a picture of the packaging ) I researched the company that's when the alarm bells went off all the complaints were the same as what I was experiencing, I contacted Sainsbury via email as you can't speak to anyone, eventually I gave up and contacted the ombudsman who took the case, they contacted me three weeks later and informed me that Sainsbury's would be in touch to resolve the issue from July/August to date Sainsbury's still have not contacted me, I now have got to inform the ombudsman that they have not contacted me, this I hope will take further measures on them, Don't touch this insurance they cleverly disguise it in the search engine to get a good review, they then employ a company that does not have any satisfactory reports. Shame On You Sainsbury's Bank

Difficult to get hold of unless you can…

Difficult to get hold of unless you can use a phone (which I can't very often) - useless when you do manage to get hold of them during the hours they deem to be "open" and when you do, do not action the request. My example is having to find the right time to get someone to contact them for me to say I didn't want my home insurance contract renewed, we were told it had been noted (this was weeks ago) only to find out that it has been renewed anyway. As it stands today, I am paying 2 premiums to 2 different companies for the same thing. I have cancelled the DD from the bank - hopefully, they might get in touch when they can't take the monies. Bottom line - Sainsbury's are a nightmare to contact and get any sort of response whether it be insurance, groceries, card etc. I do not care what service I could discuss - being able to talk to a human being is almost impossible - whether you can use a phone or not. I would be grateful if someone would respond - There again, Sainsbury's probably don't read these reviews or pass them to the relevant area responsible for complaints......

Sainsbury's Bank customer reviews summary

Sainsbury's Bank travel insurance seems to be a nightmare for many customers, with reports of dire customer service, long wait times for claims processing, and difficulty getting in touch with the company. People have had to get together money for medical treatment due to the delays in processing their insurance claim. The policy documents are also allegedly misleading, giving false information about coverage. Choosing the best travel insurance for you will depend on factors like price points and features that you might find valuable. Please use the information in this review to help you understand the nuances of various plans to help you narrow down your options. In our review we also explain the main differences between buying direct from the Sainsbury's Bank website versus buying through a comparison site, to help you decide where to buy—essentially, you'll miss out on a few coverage features buying from a comparison site but that's where you'll get the cheapest prices.

Sainsbury's Bank Travel Insurance Review: What You Need to Know

Sainsbury's Bank offers a range of holiday cover plans to suit a variety of budgets and coverage needs, from those looking to cover a cheap-and-cheerful holiday with a budget option for a cost less than £10, up to those needing insurance for more valuable holidays worth up to £7,500.

There are basically two ways to buy Sainsbury's holiday cover—direct from their website or from a comparison site. What's the main difference? Basically, the plans offered from comparison sites are cheaper and, as a result, provide lower cover limits and have higher excess levels—that said, the most premium plan available from comparison sites ("Premier") offers higher limits across some categories than the cheapest plan available direct ("Silver"), despite a lower price (e.g., Premier offers £5k of Cancellation cover per insured person, but the Silver plan only provides £3k of Cancellation cover).

The Sainsbury's plan with the highest cover (£7.5k Cancellation and £3,000 of Baggage) is the Platinum plan, which is available direct from the Sainsbury's Bank website. Therefore, broadly speaking, those needing this level of cover would be best served buying the Platinum plan direct from the Sainsbury's website. Those who don't need that much cover may very well find a cheaper deal from a comparison site. But see below to understand some of the other differences between plans bought direct or from a comparison site.

Those going on a cruise can get cover for cabin confinement, emergency airlift to hospital, missed port and unused excursions. To learn more about market prices please see our article Average Cost of Cruise Travel Insurance UK .

Are Mobile Phones Covered? Mobile phones are covered (up to £500 or £750) on all plans bought direct through Gadget Cover . If you buy through a comparison site you can add Optional Gadget cover to any policy to get £1k, £2k or £3k of total gadget cover (max £500, £750 or £1,000 per item), depending on the plan. This will cost you on the order of £12 to £64, depending on level of cover and type of plan. Similarly, the regular Gadget cover that's already included on plans bought direct can be increased to these higher levels, but it will cost a bit more than on the comparison site—between £10 and £82.

To see a list of other companies that offer a gadget travel insurance add on please see our article, Travel Insurance Companies with Optional Gadget Cover .

Does Sainsbury's Bank Travel Insurance Cover Trips in the UK? Holidays in the UK are covered under Sainsbury's Bank Annual, Multi-trip policies, so long you have pre-booked accommodation for a minimum of 2 nights.

Who underwrites Sainsbury's travel insurance? Sainsbury's Bank travel insurance (single trip, extended stay and annual, multi-trip policies) are underwritten by ERGO Travel Insurance Services Ltd (ETI) on behalf of Great Lakes Insurance SE (GLISE).

Does Sainsbury's travel insurance cover pre-existing conditions? As part of the online application you'll be asked a series of brief medical questions. If you have a medical condition, Sainsbury's Bank may be able to offer cover for some pre-existing medical conditions , for which you'll probably be required to pay a higher premium. Pre-existing conditions are only covered if they've been fully declared, accepted and paid for.

Is Sainsburys travel insurance any good? Mixed customer reviews point to good value for money on the plus side but some customers report not receiving their policy documents quickly, which can lead to stress wondering if you're covered. For these reasons, it's probably a good idea to get a quote for your trip to see what they'll offer, but don't buy the policy at the last second before you travel.

Can I get travel insurance from Sainsburys? Yes, you can buy travel insurance from Sainsbury's, which is underwritten by ERGO Travel Insurance Services Ltd (ETI) on behalf of Great Lakes Insurance SE (GLISE).

Does Sainsbury's travel insurance cover cruises? According to the Policy Booklet from their website, cruise cover can be added as an optional extra to SINGLE TRIP cover only.

How much compensation does Sainsbury's travel insurance give for a delayed flight? If you've been delayed at your point of departure and have travelled there and checked-in, you can receive compensation for each full 12 hour delay depending on the level of cover: £25 per 12 hours (max £250) on Silver, £35 per 12 hours (max £350) on Gold or £50 per 12 hours (max £500) on Platinum; or £25 per 12 hours (max £300) on Essential, £35 per 12 hours (max £500) on Standard or £50 per 12 hours (max £500) on Premier plans from comparison sites. (The max cover for comparison site policies increased up in their September 2023 policy update.)

Is Sainsbury's travel insurance on comparison websites? Yes, Sainsbury's travel insurance is available on many travel insurance comparison engines.

Sainsbury's Bank Customer Reviews

Is Sainsbury's travel insurance really any good? The best way to get a feel is to see what real customers have to say. We've dug through hundreds of online customer reviews to look for common complaints or problems, and to find out what customers really like about the product and service.

Sainsbury's Bank Travel Insurance Trustpilot

Sainsbury's Bank has a trust score of 4.1 out of 5 from over 13742 customers at Truspilot —that's a pretty strong score, but it reflects all of Sainsbury's Bank, not just the travel insurance part of their business. After reading through the reviews to pick out those related to travel insurance, it seems that the most common complaint is not getting the policy documents in a timely manner, leading to policyholders being uncertain if they had cover or not. On the plus side, customers seem happy with the price they paid for the coverage levels.

Here is a sample of the positive reviews of Sainsbury's travel insurance on Trustpilot:

"Chose Sainsburys travel insurance as they had the most competitive price for what they offered me!" "Sainsbury provide great cover for all my uk and foreign travel. The double nectar points whilst my annual policy was running was a great bonus on my weekly shopping and petrol, and they kept me up to date on offers and expiration dates of my cover!" "No problems. Had to change my dates of travel, very good service."

And some negative reviews:

"Was never sent my travel insurance so had to go and buy some from another provider—waste of money." "I didn't receive any policy documents, no contact whatsoever until the day of my return. Very worrying not to know I was covered." "Didn't pay out after a holiday in Paris was cancelled due to strike action."

We should point out that strikes are usually excluded from travel insurance cover, regardless of the brand.

How do Sainsbury's Bank Prices Compare

Generally speaking, holiday cover from Sainsbury's Bank is around the average cost of travel insurance , with policies bought from a comparison site coming in below average and plans bought direct from Sainsbury's Bank coming in above the average cost, regardless of whether your travel plans will take to you Europe , America or elsewhere, as you can see in the following chart.

chart showing prices of Virgin Money travel insurance plans compared to the market average

Nectar cardholders can get a 20% discount on direct policies, making the plans from the Sainsbury's Bank website even more attractive. This discount does not apply to the premium for pre-existing medical conditions and enhanced gadget cover.

Insurance quotes can vary significantly from day to day and according to each individual's details, so please just use this data for general educational purposes only; your quotes may reflect a large degree of variation.

Cost of Sainsbury's Travel Insurance Add-Ons

According to our research, the average cost of optional Gadget travel cover in the market is around £35 for Annual, Multi-trip policies and £13.50 for Single Trip policies, providing around £1,500 of total gadget cover on average.

Buying Direct vs Using a Comparison Site

Generally speaking, the cheapest Sainsbury's Bank holiday cover plans are available through comparison sites, whereas the plan with the highest cover is available direct from the Sainsbury's Bank website. Beyond that, there are pros and cons to both sources in terms of features and price points. We'll try to explain some of the differences to help you decide whether buying direct or through an aggregator comparison site better suits your particular needs. Below, you'll find a table detailing the differences in Standard excess, upper age limits and maximum trip lengths. You'll notice that these details are generally more favourable on plans bought direct rather than from a comparison site—depending on your needs and situation, these details may or may not be worth the added cost to you.

Differences between Direct and Comparison Site Policies

Buying sainsbury's bank direct.

The travel insurance plans bought directly from Sainsbury's Bank offer a few perks not available on comparison sites, such as and some Gadget cover (to help protect your mobile phone, etc.).

There are higher age limits on direct plans—those up to age 80 can buy/renew an Annual, Multi-trip policies; there is no upper age limit on Single trips bought direct. (But expect higher prices for older travellers.)

Buying Sainsbury's Bank via Comparison Site

Generally speaking, the lowest prices on Sainsbury's Bank travel insurance can be found using a travel insurance comparison . In fact, Sainsbury's three comparison site plans (Essential, Standard and Premier) are generally cheaper than the cheapest direct plan (Silver). If price is your priority, then buying from a comparison site will likely secure you the lowest premium on a Sainsbury's travel plan.

Compare Cheap Travel Insurance

Protect your holiday today. Quick quotes from 20 insurers.

Despite the comparison plans coming in at cheaper prices, they still include some level of cover for Baggage Delay, Abandoning your Trip, Scheduled Airline Failure and (except Essential plans) Missed Departure. While Gadget cover isn't included, it can be purchased as an add-on extra for £12 to £62, providing up to £1k, £2k or £3k of total gadget cover (max £500, £750 or £1,000 per item) depending on the plan. However there's no Travel Disruption cover and the excess is a bit higher on comparison site plans.

Bottom Line: If you're looking for a budget plan, compare travel insurance to see three different Sainsbury's Bank holiday cover plans with prices typically ranging from £9 up to £75 (for a healthy, 35-year-old, individual traveller), depending on geography and level of cover (Cancellation from £1,500 to £5,000). Those looking to insure more valuable holidays worth up to £7,500 might find a more suitable policy buying direct from Sainsbury's Bank , but expect prices to be up to 1.6X higher for the added cover of the top-tier direct Platinum plan (versus the top-tier comparison site Premier plan).

Types of Sainsbury's Bank Travel Insurance Policies

Direct from their website, Sainsbury's Bank offers three tiers of travel insurance—Silver, Gold and Platinum. From comparison sites they offer three different plans, which provide lower levels of cover as you can see in the following table—Essential, Standard and Premier. All are available for Single Trips or as Annual, Multi-Trip policies.

They've recently upped a few limits on their comparison site policies—notably increasing the total amount of travel delay benefit they'll pay. See the new limits in the table below.

HOPELESS...AVOID!

I took out an annual travel insurance policy with Sainsbury's in July. Simple and straightforward and, on the face of it, good value. They say the proof of a good company is when something goes wrong and unfortunately I've had to claim on the policy following a theft in Tenerife. The claims process is hopeless. What they don't tell you when you take out a policy is that your claim will be handed by a 3rd party company called CSA Ltd. Why do a high profile company like Sainsbury's associate themselves with such a bunch of cowboys. I submitted a claim with all the supporting evidence/documentation over a month ago and have heard nothing since except a standard email acknowledgement. I've tried to contact them 3 times by email all of which have been ignored. I just want to know how long it's likely to take to handle my claim but all my communications are ignored. My advice to Sainsburys is to ditch this cowboy claims handling company as they're damaging your reputation.

Stay well clear of Sainsburys travel…

Stay well clear of Sainsburys travel insurance! I submitted a straight forward claim on 17th January and still waiting for an outcome 2 months later, depsite contacting 9 times. Depsite using Sainburys for credit cards, insurance etc in the past they have lost my business going forward.

Need I say more

So I had a job with these guys and everything seemed so perfect at first, however due to personal problems in my family I was unable to stay with them. They are now demanding money from their own employees and not giving clear reasons as to why these payments are required. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE.

Worse service ever from Sainsburys insurance

If this is Sainsburys home insurance - DON'T DO IT Unable to get anyone to answer the telephone - get loads of selling messages repeated and repeated and then ends call with no answer. No email address to contact them No chat App - cannot register an account.

Avoid at all costs

Avoid at all costs. They are scammers. I took out holiday insurance for a ski trip. Sadly my mum got ill and was diagnosed with cancer so I had to cancel. I made my claim on 11th January and are still wrangling with them. They lose information, don't answer emails for weeks on end. Every time you get a response someone else is looking at it and then they ask for the information again. I am having to send my claim to financial ombudsman. They are not Sainsburys but Claim Settlement Agencies. Staff are inept and just not able to understand anything you send them. Will do anything not to pay. Sainsburys you should do something about this. As they are ruining your good reputation.

Not worth the premium

Claims handlers CSA, only seem interested in interpreting policy small print to only pay out minimum. Not worth the premium, wouldn't use again

Zero stars for this inept, incompetent, unprofessional company with non-existent customer service…

I would give zero stars if possible like many previous reviews for this inept, incompetent, unprofessional company with non-existent customer service. Have been waiting for even an acknowledgment of our medical claim which was submitted 6 weeks ago. Impossible to reach anyone by phone and no response to emails. It is stressful enough to have a family holiday ruined by illness. This is a company supposedly endorsed by Sainsbury's Travel Insurance to handle claims. Sainsbury's should take ownership and provide a service to paying customers!

Date of experience : 08 March 2023

Nightmare experience -please don't buy from Sainsburys

Please an honest request to all reading the reviews. Please don't buy from Sainsburys. I have been battling for 3 months to get a decision on a genuine medical incident while traveling. We jad a medical incident and had to mis our flight. I have submitted my claims in September. However I was not aware that Sainsburys only sells insurance and collect our premium but when a claim is s made they pass it to me a company called CSAL. Every time we email them they have response time of 31 days I am told. As I can see people are waiting for upto 12 months. So if you really want an 8nsurance that covers you and pays ontime please don't buy from Sainsburys.

Renewed with Sainsbury's and glad I did! 👍

I took a chance with a Sainsbury's Travel Insurance annual policy last year after being with The Co-op for several policies. I found Sainsbury's to be the cheapest option with the best variety of benefits inc. 20% off for Nectar Members and double Nectar points for the duration of the policy. Thankfully I have not yet needed to claim but with online and telephone access both available, it should be pretty easy if the need arises. I recently received my renewal quote which for the same level of cover or the stage below was a lot cheaper than last year still with 20% off and double Nectar points for the coming year. Needless to say I was impressed with the quote and I called yesterday to accept and paid immediately. I didn't wait anymore than 30 seconds on hold to speak with an advisor. The advisor, Sara, was lovely, polite, friendly and knew their stuff. I had completed the call within 24 minutes well within my break time too! 😊 I hope the great service continues after a very pleasing first year and I am glad to be covered on my travels across the UK and Europe. I happily recommend Sainsbury's Bank Travel Insurance.

Appalling customer service

Received an email saying they will auto-renew this year but when I phoned customer service they said I I have not had a policy with them since 2019. I asked for a standard email confirm that there would be no autorenewal this year but received one confirming that there would be no autorenewal in 2020 - amazing! Tried to explain this does not confirm they will not take the amount stated on the email in 2021. Finally, the phone was put down on me bang on 5.30 in the middle of the discussion - obviously don't pay overtime! When I log on to their website it clearly shows my policy which is due to expire in Dec 2021.

Date of experience : 07 December 2021

Ridiculous cancellation process- Auto-renewal

The customer service agent was polite and raised my complaint, hence one star but this is a ridiculous content insurer. I received an automatic renewal quote by email, logged in to cancel but was unable to cancel. SO, I cancelled my direct debit! nearly a month on I receive a letter with an outstanding balance for the new police. The claim is that I should have rung to cancel the autorenewal and two letters were sent - he could not decide if it was email or snail mail. I even checked junk- of course it was not there as my shopping etc are Sainsbury an my provided recognises Sainsbury. I do not share a house and in the same way that I received today's letter- I would have received the previous. Absolutely disgusting service! I await the complaint process and this is an issue of my credit file...Ridiculous!

Worst insurance company. Avoid at all costs.

If I could leave 0 stars I would. Don't waste your money. I took out the policy for a ski trip, where someone knocked my tooth our and exposed a nerve. Upon calling them they advised me to seek medical assistance on a Friday night. Obviously all the dentists were closed or fully booked for the next 2 days. My departure date was on Sunday, and give the pain from the exposed nerve there was no choice but to fly home, and get a root canal done. This root canal took about 6 appointments. The insurance won't cover this cost which is frankly ridiculous. This is the entire purpose why I took out insurance, and this is a MEDICAL expense. The staff are incapable of anything, and because of this that is the reason the claim was not paid. Joke of an insurance company. Avoid if you don't want to throw away money.

One of the worst ever companies to take…

One of the worst ever companies to take Home Emergency insurance from! I took out Emergency Insurance Cover from them and when my boiler stopped working they just found a lame excuse not to cover it. Just a full waste of money, please do not ever take out any policy from them!

Date of experience : 01 November 2019

30+ minutes call waiting

I was using this company for car insurance after a year it was approaching renewal date . Like most car insurance policies it was automatic renewal but I received no quote from Sainsbury's . I decided to phone them to see what they intended to charge me . I spent 30 minutes waiting to get through to this company . 30 minutes gives you time to think , and I thought " would I really want to be sitting on the end of a phone for 30 Minutes in a emergency ?? No I wouldn't !!!!! I cancelled my auto renewal online . I didn't bother to find out what the renewal price was !!! Really bad customer service, I really wouldn't want to deal with these people after an accident.

Date of experience : 13 June 2022

If I could give minus

If I could give minus, I would have given -2. I got Sainsburys through Money supermarket, and I had declared that my holidays 63 days, and home unoccupied. Appalling customer service, directs to ring 033, automated message for scores of minutes, and eventually told that their underwriters do not accept over 60 days unoccupied status!

Date of experience : 29 May 2022

ABSOLUTELY USELESS

They don't talk to you unless you're signing up with them. They are online only! Phone numbers with long recorded messages, then hang up. Absolutely, totally, useless! DO NOT USE!!!

Awful Service

Following the death of my mum; I sold my house and tried to cancel house insurance over phone, told to do it on line. Have done this but I had paid full year up front and had 6 months left. No refund. I have tried to contact them but I am getting nowhere. Very poor service and good way to make money from people without providing a service. Will never use sainsbury insurance again.

Date of experience : 11 March 2022

Terrible. Terrible. Avoid

Terrible. Avoid. Claimed in September 2022 and still waiting. Over an hours wait holding on and then someone tells you an operator will call you back - well that was 6 weeks ago and no one has. No replies to emails. They are not even trying and doing everything possible not to pay out. Will never ever use again

Customer service line is just a joke

Customer service line is just a joke! Tried to speak to someone on the telephone today. Waited 1 hour and 20mins on the line. When it was my turn they put me to an answer phone!! They asked me to leave my details and they will get back to me! 7 hours later no phone call!! I have 4 annual polices with them!! Will never use again!!

“avoid like plague”.

written by Kyya on 11/10/2023

Our bags were lost on a connecting flight, I assumed as I had purchased the top package from Sainsbury’s thinking as it’s 3 times as much as the nearest quote on go compare it would be great, I was wrong. Despite supplying them with documentation from the airline and airport, along with emails to/ from airlines and evidence of items lost ( bills/ receipts/ bank statements AND photos of the missing items ) we still have nothing in the way of a claim. They are useless and as a result will never even shop with Sainsbury’s again let alone get ripped off with their expensive and very useless insurance package 4 months after submitting the claim they are still asking for silly additional things before they process it, instead of just giving me a list of what they needed they have trickle fed information as to what is required by them, I am assuming they just keep fobbing people up till the give up. Honestly they are useless, utterly useless.

“Please don't waste your money! ”

written by Ali462 on 15/01/2021

Worse travel insurance, probably like all others! You have to know if you are taking a travel insurance and you need it, they will find a way to escape every time! Which means you are feeding them for nothing! Did you know that some travel agents have some bonuses of more than £100.000! Happy to know, I am so disgusted! Please don't waste your money on travel insurance! Before travelling ask the government how you can be covered, more helpful than them...

“Rubbish”

written by nev06102020 on 13/10/2020

no wonder this travel insurance gets rubbish reviews would never buy anything from them, holiday got cancelled so phoned to say insurance was not required told me I could use the insurance up t six months but had to give them a date I would be traveling in the next six months, how the hell are you meant to know when you would be going away now as things have changed again, If I didn't give them a date now I would lose the money would never shop or buy any product of Sainsburys, you could not care less about anyone apart from your profits I give this company no stars and would never recommend them

“Non flexible”

written by AlanSp on 10/09/2020

I eventually received a response from Sainsburys regarding the travel insurance that I had organised and paid for for a foreign holiday booked for May 2020. email received 9th September - when I was promised a response within 3 working days in June 2020 - only 3 months late. When my holiday was cancelled in late April I contacted Sainsbury Travel Insurance in an effort to re-schedule for May 2021. I was informed that my travel insurance could not be used for a holiday in 2021 & offered a £10.00 refund as a goodwill gesture, which I declined. The Sainsbury staff that I spoke with were neither user friendly or in my opinion professional. I will not be using Sainsburys Travel Insurance cover again & will terminate the insurance cover that I have with them for my property etc as soon as possible.

“Definitely not recommended”

written by Stevebob on 24/07/2020

I chose to book Sainsbury's bank travel insurance after searching and found 5-star defaqto rating. When I added my age and health history made the premium expensive for a 7-day holiday in Italy for my wife and myself. TUI cancelled because of coronavirus so I tried to phone Sainsbury's travel insurance to ask if it was possible to cancel insurance, but received no replies after trying all numbers including claims line and waiting for some time until phone went dead. So I sent them a email again received no replies. I was not expecting to receive a full refund but there is no way of contacting anybody, not even to make a claim! Obviously I will not be arranging any insurance with this company ever again, especially on another occasion after changing pounds to euros Sainsbury's Bank cashier made a mistake and gave my wife 10 Euros less, my wife having worked in a bank spotted this and the cashier just made a groan not even a apology. They definitely lost us as a customer in the future.

“Money for nothing”

written by Lindsey433 on 13/06/2019

I purchased a single trip insurance to Germany at the same time I arranged the holiday. The holiday was cancelled by the company due to lack of numbers, the company refunding the money paid so far, fine. I claimed on the insurance just to get the premium back and was told 'due to it being outside of the 14 day cooling off period they would not be refunding the premium'. This is blatant money for nothing when I said as much they said they had been providing cancellation cover since the booking was made. I would not recommend Sainsburys Bank Travel Insurance to anyone.

Same has happened to me, £242.23 out of pocket for insurance I purchased in September 19 to cover a holiday to USA in June 20. Travel insurance no longer needed. Sainsbury's refusing to refund any of my money. Their response below : I would like to highlight that we have provided you with cancellation cover since 27th September 2019 when you purchased your policy. I am unable to honour your request to provide you with a full refund outside of your cooling off period. I note that you are not making a claim for your holiday. Had this not been the case then a claim for irrecoverable unused expenses could have been considered under the Cancellation section of the policy. Insurance is there to protect against unforeseen risk, if it is not used or claimed against, it does not mean that it should be refunded. I appreciate that this will not be the outcome you would have liked but I also trust you can understand how I have come to this decision. You are able to cancel the cover, but we cannot issue a refund.

“Avoid”

written by 497Massey on 27/08/2018

We took out a ‘Gold’ single trip policy with Sainsburys Bank as soon as we booked our dream holiday to the Maldives, thinking as we hadn’t gone for the cheapest cover that we would be covered for all eventualities. It cost us £65.30 for 2 weeks cover. Unfortunately hubby received 2 fractures to his lower left arm a few weeks before departure. We informed Sainsburys Bank travel insurance of all updates of the incident even up to & including a ‘fit to fly’ confirmation from the hospital doctor. He was at no risk on the holiday or flight but they deemed it appropriate to then charge us another £50+ as our circumstances had ‘changed’. We registered her unhappiness with the extra premium as we thought this is what the original premium was designed to cover, obviously not! We were told to pay up & complain upon our return at which point the return of the 2nd premium would be considered. They were totally dismissive to our refund of 2nd premium upon our return! Our advise now would be to take out the cheapest cover policy suitable to you but do NOT use Sainsburys Bank as they have been totally unhelpful throughout, 2 weeks Insurance ended up costing us £120+!

“RIP OFF”

IVE JUST TRIED TO MAKE A CLAIM AS MY HUSBAND HAS A LETTER FROM A DOCTOR TO SAY HE WAS NOT FIT TO FLY ON MEDICAL GROUNDS I HAVE NOT CANCELLED THE HOLIDAY. THE REST OF US WENT ON THIS HOLIDAY, I HAVE BEEN TOLD I CANNOT CLAIM WHICH IS UNFAIR, PRETTY DISGUSTING AND A COMPLETE RIP OFF!!!!!!! HE WAS UNABLE TO FLY THROUGH NO FAULT OF HIS OWN.

“Holiday Insurance that EXCLUDES package holidays!!!”

written by 184Parsons on 20/07/2017

We took out an Annual Multi Trip policy with Sainsbury's. On the basis they are a name you could trust. We booked to go to South Africa and then on to Mauritius in December 2017 with a reputable travel company, who pulled together 7 flights and 3 hotel bookings for our trip. A few weeks ago the travel company informed us that the Game Lodge in South Africa we were booked in, had burnt down. The alternatives were (1)Cancel the whole trip and loose the £2,500 deposit. (2) Pay an additional £540 for an alternative Game Lodge. We contacted Sainsbury's as we had Travel Disruption Cover, which covers extra cost if the hotel goes out of business or burns down! We were informed that we could not claim as we had arranged the trip with one company, they classed it as a Package holiday, and the policy does NOT cover package holidays for these events. What a useless policy!

“Travel claim”

written by tedsennoj on 08/09/2015

This company brokers another companies insurance (Cigna Insurance Services) and when I made a claim for cancelled holiday due to diagnosis of bowel cancer I was directed to yet a third company Firstassist insurance services .These people are still trying to default on paying the claim despite numerous telephone calls e-mails and letters. From my experience I would strongly suggest not using Sainsburys for any form of insurance.

“You think you're insured for a year . . . . ”

written by imBell479 on 21/05/2014

We took our annual travel insurance after declaring my husband's pre-existing medical condition. It seemed a good deal with comprehensive cover. My husband suffered a second occurrence of his pre-existing medical condition three-quarters of the way through the annual policy. This re-occurrence left him with no lingering long-term effects and he needed no further medical treatment as a result. I rang Sainsburys, explained the position, confident that all would be well as I had done everything that was expected. The consultant treating my husband cleared him for travel - we had previously booked a week's holiday in Europe - and then Sainsburys refused to cover the medical condition any longer! It seems you're covered until you might need them then they have a very wide-ranging "get-out" clause and will withdraw cover. I reported them to the Financial Ombudsman but sadly they were unable to act as what Sainsburys do is legal if immoral. You might think you're medical conditions are covered for a year - after all that's what you're paying for isn't it? - but Sainsburys can - and do - withdraw cover at the drop of a hat because of this clause. Be very, very wary if you are in a similar position because you cannot rely upon this company to do the right thing. This insurance is underwritten by FirstAssist and, ironically, this company sold us travel insurance as a one-off after the very first time my husband was ill. It is not that this company doesn't provide insurance for these conditions; they withdrew cover simply because they could, even though the policy only had two months left to run. My advice would be: definitely look elsewhere for a reliable company which will honour its contract with you

“5 months later got a third of what was stolen ”

I had my hand bag stolen in Greece in August iPhone 5 camera husbands kindle and cash , police report done and duly presented to sainsburys , initially they advised me to claim on my house insurance ? Anyway after weeks and I mean weeks I had no end of phone calls and interviews I gad to provide proof that I cancelled my debit card ? How do you do that ,eventually I was interviewed and told I was nt telling the truth because I said the bag wad stolen at dinner time not lunchtime ? This was incorrect anyway and they had to phone back and say they had made a mistake , no apology but so what if I said lunchtime one week and dinner time a next by this time it was December I will never use this company again and I shall go out of my wy to tell as many people as I can

“You would do better to burn your money”

This company does everything it can to avoid paying out. I had a bag stolen while on a two-week holiday in the US. Despite a wide range of evidence of ownership including credit card statements, witness statements and a statement from the place the bag was stolen from, they are refusing to pay for anything, however young or old, that hasn't got the actual original invoice. They won't even accept that I was traveling with underwear.. Payment proposed is hardly more than 10% of the actual value of what I have lost. Avoid at all costs.

“ Any Excuse Not to Pay”

Wow, I thought going with Sainsbury ( a household brand)for my yearly travel insurance would be a safe option. Boy! was I wrong. After my rucksack was stolen ,15 mins after arriving at our resort in Spain. I reported it to the local police & got a report from them. I lost car keys, two passports & a Kindle plus other items. Apparently a charger & case is an accessory on as Kindle and programming of replacement car key is an optional extra ( try getting into a modern car without a programmed key) so they are not covered. Plus I had three separate excess amounts on my claim £50.00 for personal items plus £ 50.00 excess per passport. I had much rather they had charged once @ £150.00 .I did point out to them it I was only making one claim , but they referred me to their terms in the smallprint. I sent as many receipts as I had including mobile phone records to show who I had rung immediately after the theft.Plus I had to provide hotel receipts & flight boarding passes to prove I actually been there, despite the police report. There was an awful lot of correspondence required back and forward. Their settlement offer was less than 60% of my claim. I accept that I would have to take a cost but I am shocked at how they work out what to offer as a settlement. This has been definitely a really uncomfortable claim procedure , which is still ongoing, but my recommendation is to avoid this lot, it will save you grief in the future if you become unfortunate and have to claim

9 months later, my insurance policy has expired and I still haven't received the insurance, despite letters from Vodafone, police reports, receipt for new phone, countless emails. They have gone months ignoring my attempts to contact them. I would advise not to go with them.

I was in hospital in Switzerland for 7 weeks when I was told I could be discharged I informed Sainsburys insurance people who had been dealing with me while in hospital only to be told they had some issues and they would get back to me to arrange my repatriation after hours of inactivity and lies on the phone I organised and paid for my own taxis and flight home Saving them a fortune in air ambulance that they were talking about . When I claimed my expenses back they penny pinched and did not want to pay everything I spent . 18 months later I am receiving demanding letters from Swiss debt collectors as they did not pay all invoices due there excuse being there was 2 invoices of similar ( not exactly the same in fact hundreds in difference ) amounts I kid you not . Then we get their customer relations involved admitting they are at fault and the invoice is in the process of being paid and telling me they are sending a cheque for £50 as compensation and this is there final decision take it or leave it basically well I'll leave it thanks . Do your selves a favour do not pay your money to these clowns

“Worst Insurance company ever”

Took payment twice, then had to pay a third time as they had messed up the cover. Having to wait 10 days for refund on first 2 policies. Adviser very rude, blamed me for their mistake. Last time I looked Tunisia was not in Europe, they say it is! Also, discovered if my husband had taken ill he wouldnt have been covered as worldwide doesnt cover you for heart conditions. Even though I had input all of his info regarding that, they took the payment but didnt make clear that he wasnt covered. If fact they told me on phone he was, only to discover later that he wasnt. GGGGR Angry. DONT USE SAINSBURYS TRAVEL INSURANCE EVER! If I could have given it no stars I would have

“waste of money”

written by IsabelMiles on 06/08/2013

we insured our daughter for a year's study in Japan primarily for health cover as Japan is very expensive. As it turned out she lost her passport and missed a flight home so we had to claim. We have now discovered that the insurance policy only covers for one trip and that because she came home for christmas the policy was void thereafter. This was totally unclear when originally taking the policy. The terrifying thing is that she could have been ill and we would have been exposed to tens of thousands of costs without knowing it. To say we are angry and disappointed is a vast understatement. Thank goodness she wasn't ill and it only cost us a plane fare and the cost of a replacement passport -both of which should also have been covered by our original understanding. This looked like a reasonable deal for a student - not the cheapest but we trusted Sainsbury's and took it for peace of mind. More fools us.

“It's never their fault!”

Commenced a policy and we had to make minor alterations to ensure we were covered for our medical conditions costing an extra £ 24.00. Sainsbury's failed to take the extra money and called us back two months later explaining the error however this was blamed on us as the bank declined payment although the main policy had been taken the same day and there was ample funds available. Having called them several times they fail to explain what's gone wrong or that we were covered in the period. The general attitude is poor when calling and if you can't call in normal weekday hours then forget it you have no chance! They will not call you back, do not understand any meaning of customer service and are the worst insurance company I have dealt with (and I have dealt with several). We are now asking for a full refund as Sainsbury's have failed to provide the services requested, this can take up to 8 weeks in their complaints department and we are off on holiday in 5 days time and there is nothing they say they can do. My advice is stay well away and look elsewhere online for cover. Pity I had to give them ONE star! hehe

“I will always use Sainsbury's/First Assist”

From reading the reviews below, I can honestly say it seems like I used a different travel insurance. I had a medical issue out in the U.S. and had a have a small biopsy. From the start, they were sympathetic and quickly confirmed every stage of the diagnosis. Thankfully the biopsy came back clear, but they were already looking into flights for me to come home. I had an issue with a treatment that had been billed to me, while the rest of my treatment had been billed to the insurance. I dropped them an email, and all I had to do was email them through a copy of the bill, and they sorted it. Two months before I was due home, my partner was diagnosed with seminoma, a form of cancer which required three months of treatment. Although highly distressing, the doctor stated that this was not a 'medical emergency' that the insurance would normally cover a flight home for, as it was such an early stage and easily treatable. I can't help thinking that most insurance companies would not pay out £1500 unless they had to by contract but, after verifying it with the underwriters, it was not a problem for them. I just gave them my passport details, my previous flight details, and they sorted it. It was especially helpful being as my flight home was from New York and I was in Arizona at the time. I feel that this company went above and beyond what I expected of them. Although it does take a few days from them to respond to emails, they are available 24 hrs a day by phone and are always pleasant and helpful. At 23 this was my first big trip alone, and I felt very secure travelling with this insurance company. I didn't feel at all like I was jumping through hoops to claim or caught out by technicalities. They handled everything. I would highly recommend them and definitely use them again.

Date of experience : December 07, 2021

One of the worst ever companies to take Home Emergency insurance from! I took out Emergency Insurance Cover from them and when my boiler stopped working they just found a lame excuse not to cover it. Just a full waste of money, please do not ever take out any policy from them!

Date of experience : June 13, 2022

If I could give minus

If I could give minus, I would have given -2. I got Sainsburys through Money supermarket, and I had declared that my holidays 63 days, and home unoccupied. Appalling customer service, directs to ring 033, automated message for scores of minutes, and eventually told that their underwriters do not accept over 60 days unoccupied status!

Date of experience : May 29, 2022

ABSOLUTELY USELESS

They don't talk to you unless you're signing up with them. They are online only! Phone numbers with long recorded messages, then hang up. Absolutely, totally, useless! DO NOT USE!!!

Awful Service

Following the death of my mum; I sold my house and tried to cancel house insurance over phone, told to do it on line. Have done this but I had paid full year up front and had 6 months left. No refund. I have tried to contact them but I am getting nowhere. Very poor service and good way to make money from people without providing a service. Will never use sainsbury insurance again.

Helpful & Efficient

We had only recently transferred our pet insurance to Sainsbury when we discovered a lump one of dogs mouth. The vet sounded quite concerned and was keen for its quick removal. From the outset Sainsbury were on the ball chasing our vet regularly for details. Despite some confusion over payment to the vet direct or me claiming it back, this didn’t seem to phase Sainsbury. The lump was removed on 23rd April, the histology report returned as benign lesion on 29th April and Sainsbury covered the bill on 1st May. An helpful and timely conclusion to stressful period. Our dog is now on the road to recovery

Hassle free and great insurance company

Our dog needed a procedure which would have cost £2000, money that we don’t have spare. Sainsbury’s made the whole process so easy and stress free from start to finish, the claim forms are easy to complete then they converse with the vets, with absolutely no delay in paying out Thank you so much, would recommend your company, in fact I already have to a few people.

Competative price

I have two female boxers who needed their insurance renewing. Having searched through several companies I decided that Sainsbury's Bank was an excellent choice. The online process was easy to follow and the price was very competative. They have kept me informed of any exclusions that occur and I am pleased to give them a fuve star review.

Prompt and simple claim settlement

Absolutely brilliant service with my pet insurance claim. No forms to fill in, just provide the vets details and they did the rest. Claim approved within 24 hours of my vet providing the necessary information and claim settled next day and payment in my account two days later. There is nothing to fault

Thankfully it was easy to make a claim. At a time when your beloved pet is unwell or hurt it’s important to have the insurance claim as simple as possible. One of my dogs has become epileptic and the seizures were terrifying. With several vet visits (including out of hours) it was a godsend just to be able to fill in a couple of details online and to be able to see at what stage the claim was. Best of all they repaid my claim within a few days.

An appalling insurance company that will leave you in a desperate situation in your time of need. They do anything to try to invalidate your policy, and as yet I’ve not received the refund of my utterly useless insurance cover that I was promised way back in mid-January 2024. Insurance withdrawn!!

I took out my policy in autumn 23. I had a clean licence, full NCD and 50 years driving experience. Unfortunately, in March, I incurred a 3 points & £100 fine penalty for driving at 35mph in a 30mph zone. I rang Sainsbury’s to advise them, and to understand what increase in the premium I might have to pay. To my surprise and consternation I was told that, as a result, their underwriters will not now insure me! Remarkable!!!

Im incredibly frustrated and disgusted with the service I have received from Sainsbury’s bank! I phoned to change my direct debit details and spoke to a lady, she changed it all but have seen that my home insurance has actually been cancelled and they are not open either Saturday or Sunday to speak to about this. Awful customer service and availability to customers and will not use again in the future.

My dog was diagnosed with lung cancer, he also had his spleen removed and had a stroke. The claims process was easy and didn't add to the stress we were going through. Very simple to use, just a few questions and it’s passed over to the vets who deal with the rest. Extremely stressful experience made easier by the insurance claim. Only downside is that even though Sainsbury’s do pay direct to the vets, not all vets accept this, so you still have to pay up front. I imagine this is because the claim isn’t always accepted, whereas mine was very straight forward accidental with no underlying previous conditions.

TravelSafe Insurance is a travel insurance company owned by the Chester Perfetto Agency, which provides a wide array of travel insurance options such as health, life, and auto insurance. TravelSafe can cover longer trips than many of its competitors, but charges high rates. It's also known for its golf-specific coverage.

  • Travel medical insurance through partner Trawick International

Among the companies included in our guide on the best CFAR travel insurance , TravelSafe Insurance offers thick insulation against the unpredictability of travel. The trips that TravelSafe Insurance can insure are on the higher end of the industry, covering trips lasting up to 150 days and costing up to $100,000. TravelSafe Insurance's Classic plan also offers coverage for people who are up to 100 years old.

One standout feature of TravelSafe Insurance is that all of its plans offer primary coverage, so you can file immediately with TravelSafe Insurance instead of going through your health insurance provider first, even with TravelSafe Insurance's Basic plan. Many travel insurance companies only provide primary coverage with their higher-tiered plans.

That said, TravelSafe Insurance's Basic plan costs more than many travel insurance companies' most expensive plans. This brings up the issue of cost. While its plans are technically within the bounds of the average cost of travel insurance, TravelSafe Insurance certainly stretches those limits, and it's certainly more expensive than many of the best travel insurance companies.

Ultimately, TravelSafe Insurance is best for travelers taking an expensive trip who can afford expensive insurance.

Coverage Options from TravelSafe

TravelSafe Insurance has two main policies for those seeking travel insurance: travel insurance for stateside and international travelers and travel insurance for those who are planning golf trips. For each policy type, travelers can choose between classic and basic coverage. And golfers can choose between GolfSafe Secure and GolfSafe Secure Plus.

Here's how the three TravelSafe Insurance travel insurance plans stack up in terms of what's included and coverage limits:

TravelSafe Insurance also offers specific golf insurance plans, which is something incredibly unique among travel insurance companies. If you're an avid golfer, purchasing golfing insurance will cover things like lost holes, something regular travel insurance won't. TravelSafe Insurance's golf insurance plan benefits are as follows:

Additional coverage options from TravelSafe

TravelSafe Insurance offers several optional coverages for its travelers:

Rental car damage and theft coverage:  Available for both Basic and Classic plans, this add-on covers up to $35,000 per covered vehicle.

Business and sports equipment rental:  Also available for both TravelSafe Insurance plans, your rental equipment is covered for up to $1,000.

CFAR coverage: Only available for Classic+, you'll receive 75% of your nonrefundable trip costs. You must purchase your policy within 21 days of your initial trip deposit.

TravelSafe Travel Insurance Cost

The premium you pay will depend on various factors, including the age of the travelers, destination, and total trip costs. The  average cost of travel insurance  is 4% to 8% of your travel costs.

After inputting some personal information, such as your age and state of residence, along with your trip details, like travel dates, destination, and trip costs, you'll get an instant quote for TravelSafe Insurance plans available for your trip. And from there, it's easy to compare each option based on your coverage needs and budget.

Now let's look at a few examples to estimate TravelSafe Insurance coverage costs.

As of 2024, a 23-year-old from Illinois taking a week-long, $3,000 budget trip to Italy would have the following travel insurance quotes:

  • Basic: $112
  • Classic: $147
  • Classic (Plus): $274

Premiums for TravelSafe Insurance plans are between 3.7% and 9.1% of the trip's cost, within and above the average cost of travel insurance.

TravelSafe Insurance provides the following quotes for a 30-year-old traveler from California heading to Japan for two weeks on a $4,000 trip:

  • Basic: $153
  • Classic: $202
  • Classic (Plus): $377

Once again, premiums for TravelSafe Insurance plans are between 3.8% and 6.3% of the trip's cost, within the expected range of travel insurance costs.

A Texas family consisting of two 40-year-old parents with a 10-year-old and 4-year-old on a two-week trip to Australia for $20,000:

  • Basic: $512
  • Classic: $676
  • Classic (Plus): $1,616

TravelSafe Insurance plans cost between 2.6% and 8.1% of the trip's cost, below and within the average cost of travel insurance.

A 65-year-old couple looking to escape New Jersey for Mexico for two weeks with a trip cost of $6,000 would have the following quotes:

  • Basic: $472
  • Classic: $582
  • Classic (Plus): $952

Premiums for TravelSafe Insurance plans are between 7.8% and 15.9%, which is well the average cost for travel insurance. While older travelers should expect higher premiums, these prices are on the higher end of what you should be paying.

Purchasing and Managing a TravelSafe Policy

Purchasing a TravelSafe Insurance policy is fairly simple. You'll first need to obtain a quote through TravelSafe Insurance's website. Be prepared to provide the following details:

  • State of residence
  • Destination(s)
  • Departure/return dates
  • Date of initial deposit
  • Total trip cost
  • Number of travelers
  • Birthday of traveler(s)

Once you obtain a quote and pick your plan, you'll enter some additional information about yourself, such as your address and contact information.

How to File a Claim with TravelSafe

If you experience a loss while insured by TravelSafe, you need to act quickly. You have 20 days after the loss to notify TravelSafe Insurance, at which point an agent will send you forms for filing proof of loss. If TravelSafe Insurance don't send a form withi 15 days, you can send your own written statement about what happened along with proof. This must be completed within 90 days of the loss.

You have several options if you need to file a claim for TravelSafe Insurance.

If you need emergency help, you can call their toll-free numbers below.

  • Toll-free (US-only): 1-877-539-6729
  • Direct: 1-727-475-2808

If you're international, call the following toll-free number: 1-866-509-7713.

TravelSafe Customer Service and Support

Almost all reviews for TravelSafe Insurance are concentrated on its SquareMouth page, where it has an average rating of 4.3 stars out five across over 1,500 reviews. Though an overall positive score, it's worth mentioning that most of the positive reviews come from people who didn't have to file a claim. Some of these reviews mentioned having to alter their insurance plan, which was an overall positive experience.

However, many of the reviews that mention the claims process are negative. Customers mentioned long wait times, uncommunicative claims representatives, and little guidance during the claims process. Additionally, while many travel insurance companies regularly engage with reviews, both positive and negative, TravelSafe Insurance rarely replies to customer reviews.

TravelSafe Travel Insurance vs Faye Travel Insurance

Faye Travel Insurance is a completely digital travel insurance company. Unlike TravelSafe Insurance, Faye Travel Insurance completely covers all cruise travel. Faye doesn't cover golf trips as TravelSafe Insurance does. They have similar amounts of coverage, but Faye Travel Insurance is about $20 cheaper for its comparable international plans.

Faye Travel Insurance covers your trip, your health, and your belongings just like TravelSafe Insurance does. But with Faye Travel Insurance, you can add different things that meet your needs, like car rental, extreme sports, and pet care.

TravelSafe Travel Insurance vs World Nomads Travel Insurance

TravelSafe Insurance is an excellent option if you're traveling and participating in regular activities, like trying different foods and basic activities, like taking a train to places. But if you want to do extreme sports, it might not be the right coverage for you. Instead, consider getting a travel insurance plan like World Nomads Travel Insurance . World Nomads covers over 100 different extreme sports, and you can specifically add on different sports that you want to try. It's a better coverage insurance plan for someone who's a little bit more adventurous.

That said, if you're only planning on doing a specific activity, like golfing, TravelSafe Insurance has a plan for you. They cover golfing trips specifically with more coverage than World Nomads.

Read our World Nomads travel insurance review here.

TravelSafe vs Credit Card Travel Insurance

Some credit cards, especially travel rewards cards, come with travel benefits such as primary rental car insurance for your vehicle if you decide to rent one. However, travel insurance is generally more comprehensive than credit card coverage. For example, TravelSafe Insurance offers benefits like death and dismemberment coverage; credit cards don't typically cover this benefit.

However, you can use both your credit card benefits and your travel insurance to get the fullest coverage possible.
