The buses used for field trips are the same buses used to bring students to and from school for their regular academic program. As a result, trips will not be scheduled on dates when NYC public schools are closed (generally all federal holidays) or when the public schools have half-day sessions. https://www.schools.nyc.gov/calendar
- Trips requiring more than five (5) vehicles may not be scheduled on Fridays due to limited vehicle availability.
- Schools are responsible for fees associated with tolls and parking.
- Tolls must be paid by check - made payable to the bus vendor and given to driver before the scheduled trip.
- Canceled check will serve as the receipt of payment.
- Schools must confirm all assigned trips with the bus company dispatcher two days before the scheduled trip.
- Neither OPT nor the bus companies can be responsible for routing field trips. To ensure proper travel, schools must provide bus drivers with directions to and from the field trip site.

I’m going to be assigning my 11th grade honors US History class “In the Heart of the Sea” as their second marking period reading assignment. Being mainly 1st and 2nd generation immigrants, I thought a trip to Mystic Seaport at the end of the first marking period would greatly enhance their reading comprehension as they delve into the book. That said, how to pay for such a great experience?
Thank you in advance for your consideration and assistance. I will be excitedly awaiting your reply!!

Return of School Field Trips in the 2022-2023 School Year

Kristy Lopez , Copy Editor, Social Media Manager December 22, 2022
Class field trips have made a return for the 2022-2023 school year.
Ever since the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, class field trips have been halted. This was due to fear surrounding the virus. This year, many courses and clubs have already partaken in memorable class trips—such as the Earth Science, AP Biology, and French courses.
“I’m really sad I haven’t gotten any field trips so far, especially since the last one I went on was in the seventh grade,” said Daisy Flores. “I’m glad they’re starting up again.”
As of now, field trips are being approved by the Monroe-Woodbury administration. COVID-19 protocols are not put in place when planning field trips.
“Any COVID protocols come down from the federal or state levels, and at this point there are none,” said Vice Principal Mr. McElroy.
According to McElroy, the process for approval is the same as it was since 2020. Teachers submit a quote to the bus garage. The garage then sets a price for transportation and fills out a form, which would be sent and reviewed by Principal Mrs. Soto and Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction Dr. Hassler.
How much money is needed along with other paperwork (attendance rosters, medical files, etc.) varies from trip to trip. This entire process takes a few weeks.
Mr. McElroy added, “I haven’t had any [field trips] that weren’t allowed. Teachers make good decisions on where to take kids. I can see cost becoming a problem [for the approval of a field trip] if they wanted to go too far or something becoming costly to the point where kids had to pay. I can see that being an issue.”
The science department has already hosted trips to various places.
“ Students were excited about the trips and learned about our environment first-hand,” said Ms. Puopolo, a science teacher and a chaperone for two previous trips.
Alina Joseph, a senior, went on a field trip with her AP Biology class to Plum Point Lane by the banks of the Hudson River. The class explored the area and visited different stations with different activities that taught them about the point.
For example, there was one station where students fished with nets and identified the fish with a dichotomous key. Another station was a nature hike with a naturalist to discuss growing plant life.
Joseph recounted her experience and said, “It was a really fun, amazing, and interactive experience! I wasn’t able to go on field trips [since freshman year], but it’s great how I can now.”

“Eureka! Invention and Innovation in New Jersey”
Inspired by Abram Spanel, the last private owner of Drumthwacket who held more than 2000 patents at the time of his death in 1985, this free, on-line learning module was developed by the Drumthwacket Foundation in partnership with New Jersey teachers. The module educates students on the importance of invention and innovation in the history of our state and nation. Designed for use by fourth grade teachers and comprised of five lessons which may be taught individually or consecutively, the module:
- aligns to English Language Arts, Social Studies, Science, Math and Technology standards
- introduces students to inventors who are less known but whose inventions are well known such as bubble wrap, the electric guitar, hole punch and bandaids
- engages students with lesson plans designed to encourage connections, enhance learning and foster curiosity
- includes a ‘teacher toolbox’ which houses all assessments, worksheets, ready-to-use power point slides, hyperlinks to text resources and more
The companion Eureka! Student Site reinforces learning with educational games, puzzles and an interactive New Jersey map highlighting cities associated with each inventor or invention featured within the classroom module.

They all have better things to do. But, “a hen’s gotta do what a hen’s gotta do,” and so our crimson heroine perseveres until her work is done. Produced by Virgina Repertory Theatre.

Dr. Kaboom's Newton's Laws of Motion
Understanding the Physics of Motion
January 22-April 22, 2024
Described as “part Mr. Wizard and part Mr. Rogers,” Doktor Kaboom uses the excitement of rocketry to present Newton’s Laws of Motion in multiple, over-the-top, demonstrations. Each of Newton’s 3 laws is clearly explained, comically demonstrated, and followed by a DIY project that students can do as a class, in groups, or individually. 3 Laws, 3 lessons, 3 projects!
Curriculum Connections: Sir Isaac Newton’s 3 Laws of Motion: Inertia, Acceleration, Action / Reaction, Safe Science, Math, Costume and Set Design, Character, Improvisation, Understanding, Respect, Cooperation, Making good choices

Travel Grants
TPAC can assist with travel costs by completing our Travel Grant Application. Schools pay for their transportation, and the grant awards reimburse 50% of that expenditure. Funds will be distributed after required documentation is submitted to TPAC.
Ticket Subsidies
TPAC covers a large percentage of performance costs to ensure all students have access to performing arts experiences. When requested in advance, we can provide ticket subsidies to schools in need of funding assistance.
THANKS TO OUR EDUCATION PARTNERS
It means you’ll be unable to see the entire stage from those seats.
We sell these seats because for many fans the limited view is not a problem, and the tickets are clearly labeled at time of purchase (see photo below). Limited view seating varies event to event and could be something as small as a tiny corner of the stage being blocked from view. Call our box office at 615-782-4040 for additional information on limited view seating.
Seats marked with “Limited View” during purchase path
Andrew Johnson Theater
Many shows impose ticket limits to allow as many people as possible to have equal access to seats. This is done as a deterrent to third party vendors, i.e. scalpers, who may purchase large blocks of seats and then resell them online at an inflated cost. The term “household” refers to any shared information on one or more accounts. This includes, but may not be limited to matching names, mailing and billing addresses, email addresses, phone numbers and credit card numbers. Any households that purchase more than the allowed number of tickets may have their order(s) refunded without notice.
