EDEN - Tour Trailer

Seeds of hope documentary, introducing eden, eden: joyce didonato – the circle, part 1, eden – royal opera house, eden by joyce didonato: the unanswered question (charles ives), eden by joyce didonato: world premiere of the first morning of the world (rachel portman), "as with rosy steps the morn" from theodora (handel) - eden by joyce didonato, mahler: "ich bin der welt abhanden gekommen” - eden by joyce didonato, seeds of hope - joyce didonato & canterbury choir, eden: joyce didonato & beautiful chorus sing "earth's new heaven" (live performance), copland: "nature, the gentlest mother" from 8 poems of emily dickinson - eden by joyce didonato, no matter what, eden engagement: just the beginning.

I don’t know yet if it’s simply the general times we are living in, or if the “Great Pause” alone has given rise to ever deepening and restless queries within, but as Gene Scheer perfectly captures in the text of our world premiere, The First Morning of the World: “I am filled with nothing but questions.” EDEN has emerged as an integral part of the journey towards finding answers.

You see, I’m a problem solver, a dreamer, and – yes – I am a belligerent optimist who believes in the incredible power of not only the human spirit to overcome, but with each passing day I trust more and more in the perfect balance, astonishing mystery, and guiding force of the Natural World around us. How much Mother Nature has to teach us through her awe-inducing majesty, her staggeringly complex simplicity, and her ever-present patience. It’s almost as if She has all the time in the world.

EDEN is an invitation to return to our roots. To remember. It is an overture to contemplate the sheer perfection of the world around us, and to explore whether or not we are connecting as profoundly as we can to the pure essence of our being. It is a clarion call to consider if our collective suffering and confusion isn’t perhaps linked to the aching separation from something primal within and around us.

During the pandemic, I observed closely the flowers that emerged from the ground as the “real world” went quiet. Despite our pressing issues of shutdowns and closures, these wondrous miracles arrived – unassuming and unheralded – bursting out of their seed coverings after the long winter’s sleep, modestly employing the water and soil at hand to reach ever higher towards the sky, soaking up the full glory of the sun. But the doubt persists, often in the darkest hours of the night:

“What can I alone do?”

“What difference can I possibly make?”

And the truth is, I’m not at all sure of the answer. The immense and deafening pain and destruction of the world at large often overwhelms me. Any hope of “saving it” seems to float further and further away.

This is then the moment when I seek out the comfort and connection of Music: with each passing day I trust more and more in the perfect balance, astonishing mystery, and guiding force of the Musical World with which we are blessed. Story tellers and creators from Handel to Ives and from Rückert to Portman, who have so much to teach us as they sort through the simple complexity of our human dilemma and search for universal truths, give us guidance and wisdom to aid us in our questioning. Time often seems to stand still when absorbed in the integrated harmonies and rich poetry of great music, and in that beautiful suspension we are afforded the gift to examine, expand and feel. We connect. The painful separation begins to dissipate and we are empowered to act.

EDEN is a call to action to build a paradise for today: to fertilize, nourish, and protect the pure bliss that the deepest part of us knows and yearns for: the unpolluted perfume of a linden branch; the comforting shade of a towering tree; the breathtaking sanctity of pure love; the generosity of the endless light that breaks open for us every single morning; the dying to the world we have known, only to embrace and live aloud in our heaven, our love, and our song. The way I look at it, this is the precise moment in time when each of us is called to participate in nourishing and healing our world and our hearts: repairing where broken, rebuilding where barren, replenishing where exhausted. Both Nature and Music are showing us the way. Will we answer the call? With that in mind, I ask you:

Expanding Our Impact

seeds of hope tour

Seeds of Hope CEO, Khader Ghanim, and the project team meet with the Jericho Chamber of Commerce to discuss local economic development.

After meeting with the Jericho governor and Chamber of Commerce, the Chamber is now interested in  partnering with Seeds of Hope  on local economic development efforts—a huge step in our  influence  and  partnership  with government leaders. It was also the first time we were able to take a team to Hebron, a 100% Muslim community nearby. Until now,  they’ve been uninterested in Seeds of Hope teams  and programs, but since we were able to connect through business , they welcomed us for the first time.

seeds of hope tour

During their trip, the North Point project team also got to tour the Seeds of Hope school and see the preschool expansion funded by their church’s Be Rich campaign!

These kinds of teams give us  influence  and  access  in ways that aren’t typically possible on our own. They help us  build bridges  to our community and show them that  we’re here to help .

“The Seeds of Hope are not just being planted.  The harvest is underway ,” said Philip, another member of the North Point team. “Minds are being changed. Hearts are being touched. And the love being shown is real.”

We’re so grateful to have teams visiting again. Not only that, but to have a group like this explore new ways to connect with our community and expand our impact makes us even more excited for the future!

Seeds of Hope, in conjunction with Archdiocese of Denver Catholic schools, will present the 2018-19 Around the Archdiocese of Denver (AoD) Tour, hosting open-to-the-public school tours at each of the K-8 and high schools that will showcase the faith formation and learning taking place in each of the 36 Archdiocese of Denver schools.

The Around the AoD Tour kicks off on Oct. 2, 2018 and runs through Mar. 19, 2019. To commemorate the tour stops, each person who visits a school on the 2018-19 Around the AoD the Tour will receive a free 2018-19 Around the AoD Tour t-shirt. A representative from Seeds of Hope and a tour guide from each school will greet and lead visitors. This is a chance to see inner workings of the schools, ask questions of leadership and see up close the differences the schools are making in their communities every day. No matter where somebody is in the Denver Metro or Northern Colorado area, there is a 2018-19 Around the AoD Tour stop coming soon to their community.

“We want people in their communities to be able to see firsthand how our schools are building the Kingdom of Heaven here on earth,” said Seeds of Hope Executive Director Jay Clark. “Our schools are the future of our Church and seeing the students and teachers in action with school leaders is an incredibly inspiring way to spend an hour.”

Signing up for a tour is easy – just visit seedsofhopedenver.org , call 303-715-3127 or email [email protected] to choose a tour date and t-shirt size.

Our Programs

At Seeds of Hope we focus on the whole health of the individual, and we see every day as an opportunity for learning and growth. A typical day consists of therapeutic horticulture or culinary, learning, exercise, arts and crafts, and social group activities. No matter the unique abilities of each individual, we design and integrate activities that can be enjoyed by everyone.

21 & Older

Availability:.

Contact us for availability

A busy individual is a happier, healthier individual, and you can be both when you join our 21 & Older Program. In this program, you have the liberty to attend a single day of the week, or every day in a row.

Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays are reserved for learning, work, exercise, and socializing. Wednesdays and Thursdays are when we have our community outings, work, and recreational activities. Community Outings include swimming at the YMCA, workouts at the EAHS agility center, visiting community parks and nature reserves, and Matheson Memorial Library in Elkhorn, going out to lunch, shopping, and much more. These outing days could expand depending on needs and abilities of individuals.

We try to teach skills that give better opportunity for job placement. Seeds of Hope works with organizations to provide work opportunities, but allow clients still to be a part of their Seeds of Hope Community at certain times and days.

Contact us today at [email protected] to set up a tour and see what possibilities can work for you and your family! We look forward to hearing from you!

Transitional Programs

Seeds of Hope offers school districts the opportunity to be part of our community. Monthly opportunities are available to introduce your students to Seeds of Hope.

Our School Group Programs specialize in recognizing the gifts and talents of the individual. We work with students to build vocational, social, and community skills. Seeds Of Hope provides opportunities to school districts for their 18-22 year old students to prepare them for the future. Time frames range from one to four hour slots once a month. Students participate in horticulture, culinary, landscape, construction, and craft projects. This is a spectacular opportunity for students to learn what options are available for them after high school.

Seeds of Hope

seeds of hope tour

Seeds of Hope is a ministry of the Seton Shrine that specializes in hosting retreats and events for those who might not otherwise be able to attend due to challenging circumstances. Whether a participant is experiencing poverty, a profound sense of isolation, or is simply down on one’s luck, Seeds of Hope is here to help.

"Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton's story gives me hope that anyone can heal." –Retreat Participant Tweet

Conducted in partnership with organizations and individuals who serve those on the margins of society, Seeds of Hope enables us to offer special retreat days at the Seton Shrine for those who could never otherwise attend. The very people who Mother Seton sought to serve—both before and after her conversion—are being offered a chance to experience all that the Seton Shrine offers.

Seeds of Hope retreats are customized to meet the unique needs of each group, and may include:

  • -Tour of the Seton Shrine
  • -Time for prayer and reflection in the Basilica and on the Shrine grounds
  • -Food and fellowship
  • -Time of sharing

The National Shrine of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton is a place of holy retreat and inspiration, where visitors by the thousands have their hearts lifted, their spirits renewed, and their faith strengthened.

As a place of prayer, pilgrimage and learning, the Shrine fulfills its mission through the liturgical, spiritual and reflective life of the Basilica, through the educational and inspirational exhibits and experiential programming which takes place in the Museum, and in buildings on the historic site that Mother Seton, her children, and her early religious community called home.

“I’ve been on Seeds of Hope three or four times, and I keep coming back for the peace of the grounds and the nice people. You can be at ease when you’re here and not worry about the struggles of the day or what’s going on in the world.”

Join the 200th Anniversary Capital Campaign

AS WE CELEBRATE THE 200TH ANNIVERSARY of Mother Seton’s entrance into eternal life, the Seton Shrine has a unique opportunity to reintroduce her to America. In these challenging times, people need her—and all that her Shrine represents—more than ever before. In this anniversary year, we are renewing our mission for the future—a bright future for the National Shrine of our beloved St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. To assure the promise of that future is fulfilled, the Sisters and the Shrine’s National Leaders Council are announcing a $7 million 200th Anniversary Capital Campaign.

Ways You Can Help

“Blessed a thousand, thousand times be God who governs all and will bring light out of darkness.”

—Mother Seton

Life can be hard these days, for all of us. So many are struggling. Inspired by Pope Francis’s call to ensure that Shrines are places of welcome for all—including those on the margins, who are suffering, rejected or without hope—the Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Shrine recently launched Seeds of Hope.

At each Seeds of Hope retreat, the most vulnerable among us have the opportunity to visit the Shrine where Mother Seton is entombed. Each retreat is almost entirely subsidized, with transportation, meals, and fees largely covered by the Seton Shrine and generous donors.

If you would like to volunteer by helping handicap visitors, serving meals, and more, please email Liz Origenes at [email protected] .

“In the Shrine, the doors are wide open to the sick,

the disabled, and above all, the poor, the marginalized,

refugees and migrants.”

— Pope Francis

Fearless and fun

Erin and Dan met while studying for full-time ministry at Anderson University (Anderson, IN) in the surprisingly romantic class of Biblical Greek.

After marrying (2003), Dan and Erin called Central Indiana home for the next 14 years.

During this time, erin served 13 years as an associate pastor at church at the crossing , a large church of god congregation..

seeds of hope tour

Over the years, Dan and Erin have answered the undeniable and faith-filled God question,

seeds of hope tour

“Are you open to what I have for you?”

seeds of hope tour

It is funny when you answer YES to a God question: your yes tends to open doors to larger God-sized visions than what you could hope or imagine.

This yes turned into god creating a family that includes adopted and biological children..

God asked if Erin and Dan were open to the family God had for them.

God asked if Dan was ready for a career change from the Residential Sales Industry.

This yes led Dan into the incredible ministry of being an award-winning public school teacher.

This yes led to their family moving to the central michigan town of alma, where erin has served as the lead pastor at alma church of god ..

God asked Erin if she was ready to become a lead pastor in early 2018.

seeds of hope tour

In the fall of 2023, God asked again,

“Taylor family, are you open to what I have for you?”

The taylor family is all in. they are ready to fully invest in hillsboro through dan’s work in education and erin’s work as the lead pastor for the hillsboro project..

seeds of hope tour

This most recent yes is what opened the door to conversations with the Restart Board for the Hillsboro Project.

God has affirmed and planted a passion in the taylor family to move and call hillsboro home..

Get some joy – tour a school!

Now that the thrills and excitement of the Advent and holiday season have passed (God Bless the UPS and USPS drivers we wore out via our online shopping!), the NFL playoffs trudge on with the Broncos as bystanders, car windows need scraping because of outside temperatures and a sense of the mundane creeps back into daily life, a good dose of joy is just a little harder to find.

Luckily, we have just the cure for those “back to normal” blues – come visit one of our Catholic schools!

seeds of hope tour

We are so proud of our schools, they truly are building the kingdom of heaven. I could write thousands of words about how fantastic our schools are, but words can never replace the experience of stepping inside a school for yourself and feeling the joy of knowing you are standing in the midst of wonderful things happening for young people. You will have the chance to meet school leaders, ask questions and walk the facilities.

Do yourself a favor – sign up for a school tour with me and get some joy!

To reserve a spot on a tour, check the schedule below and email me at [email protected] to let me know which tour you would like to attend. Bring a friend! To provide the best access possible and not overwhelm the schools, we have a limited number of spaces on each tour.

  • DebbJ 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles Great way to get oriented to Moscow We started our Moscow experience with the hop on hop off. It was a great way to get orientated to the city. The additional optional tours were also good, we did the Metro tour which I highly recommend, we also paid for the Kremlin tour. The hop on hop off has three different lines all included. Only fault was the bus was sometimes full and you had to wait for the next one which was about 15 minutes (in the cold). Read more Written January 6, 2020

They suggested we do the 1 hour boat trip and said they would drop us to the dock. 1) they dropped us in the wrong place 2) they were lost because of the marathon Then the boat, after we finally found it: 1) stinking fumes, actually gagging 2) no commentary, in fact, no interaction unless you begged 3) offered us 2 for 1 icecreams as they had melted and refrozen as the fridge gets turned off at night Honestly, we enjoyed the afternoon in the boat but spent all of it laughing at just how awful it was!!! The worst thing in Moscow! Read more Written August 18, 2019
  • niruDurbs 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles Not the best value for the price The ticket is quite expensive and covers three different routes in a 24 hour period. The red route is quite exciting and takes about an hour. The bus comes every 10 to 15 minutes. However the other two routes take about two hours each and buses come every 30 to 40 minute period. If the bus is full then you have to wait at the stop for the next bus. So personally I feel that not much can be seen this way. I definitely was not impressed. • Rebecca J 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles Boat element was excellent We purchased a ticket online for the boat and bus for 2 days. The boat element was wonderful, we saw some amazing parts of Moscow along the river side. The bus element was very disappointing as it only started at 10am and was finished by 6:30pm. It was extremely warm when we were there and it would have been great to do the tour in the cool of the day. There was also no air conditioning in the down stairs part of the bus. They also turned away passengers at one of the stops as the bus was full and there was not another bus for 40 minutes. Read more Written September 26, 2018

The ear phones were small and sometimes the commentary did not link up with the sites you were seeing. The green bus takes you on a longer route and ours took two and a half hours due to the heavy traffic. I would not recommend this trip unless it is raining or you want to fill in time. • WilliamDyer 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Poor service on boat and too many waiting times on buses For the price, you should expect at minimum English speaking tour guides with decent experience, but at least in my case that did not happen both in buses and boats. And in the boat even tough we were 90% English speaking tourist at least, the tour guide spoke 95% of the time in Russia, and only 3 sentences in English, I really counted how many times she spoke in English. And at the end she asks us if we have any questions? Of course I told her I couldn’t ask her anything since I didn’t understand 95% of what she was saying. The boat tour is not worth it, just take the bus that would be my advice. Second minus is the waiting times, in the boat they made us wait an hour before it departed, and in many stops with the buses waiting times of 20-30 minutes. I actually think I lost that day around 2 hours doing nothing. Be careful. Read more Written July 10, 2018

Students get a ‘Jumpstart’ on their careers in Dallas

Uc blue ash students experience transformative travel on their path to lindner.

headshot of Haley Fite

Students from Carl H. Lindner College of Business’ Jumpstart program — a pipeline between UC Blue Ash and the business college that provides students with additional support toward transitioning into a bachelor’s degree program — experienced a whirlwind visit to Dallas during spring break 2024.

The group of 12 students balanced a packed schedule of professional development and networking with cultural and tourist experiences. Sponsored by Deloitte, students connected with Lindner alumni and employer partners throughout the four-day trip.

Arun Murthy, BBA '95, (center) offered students advice on actions they can take now that will create positive impact for their futures.

Day one: Diving right in

Day one brought a visit to the Charles Schwab corporate campus where students met with Lindner alumnus  Arun Murthy , BBA ’95.

After a tour of the campus, students engaged in a Q&A session with Murthy to gain his insights on what they should be doing right now to prepare them for the next phase of their educational and career journeys.

Murthy encouraged the young professionals to “keep your eyes open” and pay attention to what piques their interest. But Murthy’s greatest advice to students was to get involved and be open to meeting and getting to know new people.

After finishing their day with a visit to the Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum for reflection and remembrance, and an evening in the Discovery District of Dallas for dinner and exploration, students looked to a second day packed with adventure.

Day two: A non-stop adventure

I think one of the reasons that I probably succeeded in this type of environment was my ability to connect and the relationships that I made with the people I interviewed with. It wasn't just transactional. It's very relational in nature.

Kasey Beiting Campus recruiting specialist, Deloitte

Day two’s itinerary featured visits to the American Airlines corporate campus, Deloitte University and AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys, to learn about sales and sports marketing.

First on the list: American Airlines.

Led by Scott Mallory, a campus recruiter for the company, students toured the expansive headquarters asking questions along the way about everything from employee benefits to navigating career changes.

“One of the most significant lessons I learned was the unpredictability of your professional career,” said Manuel Chacon Molina, who is interested in studying international business upon transferring to Lindner. “Observing individuals like Scott Mallory at American Airlines, who began in human resources and progressed across various departments, has reinforced the notion that while academic foundations are crucial, practical experience is fundamental for professional growth.”

Jumpstart students enjoyed their tour of the American Airlines' corporate headquarters.

For Abybatou Diop, a first-year  Jumpstart  student interested in supply chains and international business, the experience was transformative.

“The American Airlines company tour profoundly changed my perspective on the business world, igniting a passion within me," Diop said. "This experience was life-altering, pushing me to think beyond my previous limits. I am forever grateful for the inspiration it has given.”

Still in awe from their first tour of the day, students had even more in store as they headed to Deloitte University, the training grounds for all Deloitte employees.

Students were welcomed by a committee of Deloitte representatives, including several from Cincinnati who made the trip to Dallas to connect with the Jumpstart students.

Jeff Suttle, director, client relations, led students on a facility tour and provided an overview of the purpose of Deloitte University and how it helps the organization to continuously grow and invest in its employees.

Students enjoyed lunch alongside company representatives Jim Sowar, managing partner, Kasey Beiting, campus recruiting specialist, and Zach Wall, audit senior manager. Afterward, Sowar, Beiting and Wall engaged with students in a more formalized Q&A session, providing advice for how to prepare for their future careers, identifying their ideal career path and challenges they may face along their journey.

“In the first couple of years, I wasn't sure what my path to take, but it was really diving in and owning the fact that, if I'm going to be successful, I'm going to have to work hard, I'm going have to put my head down at times that I might not want to,” Wall told students. “But ultimately, that's the way to meeting that goal on that path.”

Deloitte representatives Kasey Beiting (left), campus recruiting specialist, Zach Wall (center), audit senior manager, and Jim Sower (right), managing partner, engaged in a Q&A session with students at Deloitte University.

As an active leader in the campus recruitment process for Deloitte, Beiting was able to offer the students an insider’s point of view on how to approach the interview process.

“I think one of the reasons that I probably succeeded in this type of environment was my ability to connect and the relationships that I made with the people I interviewed with,” said Beiting. “It wasn't just transactional. It's very relational in nature.”

With nearly 40 years of experience in the tax industry, and more than 20 years with Deloitte, Sowar hammered home this point for students.

“Is this candidate going to be able to not only maintain relationships but grow relationships and create new relationships that will lead to new business?” Sowar said of what Deloitte is looking for in its employees. “And that gets into what kind of personal skills do you have? Can you carry out a conversation? Are you asking interesting questions? How do you interact with people in a group setting and so forth? We do notice those things, and I think they really stand up.”

The themes of leadership and relationships expressed by Wall, Beiting and Sowar resonated heavily with students as they thought about their own career trajectories.

“Deloitte's emphasis on nurturing leadership qualities and continuous improvement resonated deeply with me,” said Chacon Molina. “The immersive experience at Deloitte University, allied to a rigorous training program, helps individuals not just with job-specific skills but also with the mindset and capabilities to lead effectively.”

Students took in city views at the Reunion Tower Observation Deck.

Students’ attention then turned to a more light-hearted adventure: a tour of AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys. But, before the fun began, the group stopped to connect with Bohn Crain, account executive with the AT&T Stadium sales team.

Crain’s energy and passion for his career path radiated over the students as they took in his message and holy grail advice: network, network, network.

Crain discussed his mission to meet one new person per day and encouraged students to take on the same challenge, as you never know where that connection may lead. Students were able to put this advice into immediate use as they connected with members of the Lindner Career Services team over dinner at Kitchen & Kocktails, a Black-owned business in the heart of Dallas.

Day three: Making connections

The final day of the trip allowed students to continue bonding with one another as they explored all Dallas has to offer, including the Perot Museum of Nature and Science and the Reunion Tower Observation Deck. Through these experiences, students were able to form new bonds and identify new ways that they may support each other into the future, both personally and professionally.

“I thought Dallas was a great experience for the students. They were able to see what their futures could look like, the places that their degree could take them,” said Abbey Wulf, academic adviser to the Jumpstart program. “It was rewarding to see them engaging with different companies and asking them questions. I think they also bonded with one another over this experience and their time together. I personally hope that the bonds created during this trip remain. That they now have people they can lean on at UC Blue Ash and in Lindner once they transition and after graduation.”

Lasting impact and looking forward

The idea behind the Jumpstart program is to plant seeds and watch them grow. By encouraging our students to constantly show up and just do it, no matter how hard it is — a course, a test, a project — we help to push them further so they can thrive.

Arielle Betts Program coordinator, Office of Inclusive Excellence

Top of mind for both students and employers throughout the company visits: diversity, a topic near and dear to many Jumpstart participants’ experiences.

“The most important thing that I learned from our experience in Dallas was how much businesses are in search of diversity and how important it is for them to have as much diversity as possible. Diversity can help them reach their highest peak of success,” said marketing major Cris Mejia-Sanchez.

According to Arielle Betts , the program coordinator behind Jumpstart from Lindner’s Office of Inclusive Excellence , this experience represents another cornerstone of the foundation of the program and what she hopes to achieve with it.

“The idea behind the Jumpstart program is to plant seeds and watch them grow," Betts said. "By encouraging our students to constantly show up and just do it, no matter how hard it is — a course, a test, a project — we help to push them further so they can thrive.”
