The greatest adventure of all time begins with "Star Trek," the incredible story of a young crew's maiden voyage onboard the most advanced starship ever created: the U.S.S. Enterprise. On a journey filled with action, comedy and cosmic peril, the new recruits must find a way to stop an evil being whose mission of vengeance threatens all of mankind. Recap/Review: ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ Reflects On Its Choices In “Mirrors”

Looks pretty Trekkie!

I think they misspelled “Whisperspeak.”

This kind of drive by stuff is trolling.

“Captain Burnham is forced to consider breaking the Prime Directive when a local tradition threatens Tilly’s life.” Sounds like the TNG episode “Justice” from season 1…

Sure, but at least it looks less stupid than Justice.

While undercover in a pre-warp society, Captain Burnham is forced to consider breaking the Prime Directive when a local tradition threatens Tilly’s life.

Tilly probably hits a ball into the one tiny forbidden area on the planet and breaks the glass, thus getting the death penalty. It happens more often than you would think.

Yah, that’s what I thought too.

I’ll settle for a recycled idea exectuted well… but to be honest, my preliminary interest into this one is low.

Holy Wesley Crusher batman. Now I know they’ve gone full canon connections.

Rayner is a great character. It’s a shame we only get one season with him. Callum Keith Rennie does a good job. I’ve liked him in his other roles. Well, we are in the final half of the season. I’m hoping they finish off strong. I have mixed feelings about DSC ending. I feel bad for all the fans who claim this is THEIR Star Trek.

It’s a shame we only get one season with him.

It’s always possible that he moves over to the Academy show.

Agreed on all counts, despite Prodigy being my #1 current Star Trek show.

He instantly makes any role he’s doing better by default. One of my favorites was Californication. He was great in that.

“Best show ever.” -Access Hollywood

Hopefully this is another good filler episode, like ep 5×4. When DIS isn’t all phasers blazing or overly melodramatic, it is much better. Plus, more Rayner please.

discovery is always overly melodramatic, always!

On a scale of overly melodramaticnes from 0 to 10 Discovery has its own scale that is in its entirety contained in the 10 of the normal scale.

There’s no such thing as filler episodes in Discovery. They’re all ‘high impact.’

Bohemian clothes and slightly different foreheads… ironically, very TOS :-)

Inside out 2 runtime continues a recent pixar trend.

The run time has been revealed for Inside Out 2 ahead of its June release, and its run time will continue a recent trend for many Pixar films.

"It Was Too Heavy": Inside Out 2's Scrapped New Emotion & Why They Were Cut Detailed By Director

  • Inside Out 2 will run for 100 minutes, more extended compared to the first film, allowing for a more comprehensive exploration of Riley's emotions.
  • Inside Out 2 follows a pattern of similar run times seen in recent Pixar films, ensuring pacing and storytelling consistency.
  • Inside Out 2' s 100-minute runtime places it in the middle of Pixar's film lengths, with longer films like The Incredibles 2 topping the list.

The Inside Out 2 run time has been revealed. Continuing the story of Riley as she goes through puberty, Inside Out 2 will see the return of some familiar emotions while introducing a new cast of characters including Anxiety and Embarrassment. Inside Out 2 is set for release on June 14 and features a leading cast including Amy Poehler, Phyllis Smith, Lewis Black, Tony Hale, Liza Lapira, Maya Hawke, Ayo Edebiri, Adele Exarchopoulos, and Paul Walter Hauser.

Per the Annecy International Animated Film Festival , the Inside Out 2 runtime has now been revealed. Inside Out 2 will run at 100 minutes , or 1 hour and 40 minutes.

How Inside Out 2’s Length Compares To Inside Out 1 & Other Pixar Films

Pixar movies are always under 2-hours.

Inside Out runs about 95 minutes, so Inside Out 2 will be about 5 minutes longer . While this lengthened time should not have a significant impact on the story arc, the sequel might feel like it has slightly more breathing room as it works through Riley’s expanded emotions. The last two Pixar films before Inside Out 2 were Elemental and Lightyear , which ran at 101 minutes and 105 minutes, respectively. This puts Inside Out 2 at around a similar length as the previous two Pixar movies .

This alignment with other Pixar release lengths mirrors what Inside Out did upon its release. When the first Inside Out film was released, its closest Pixar releases were The Good Dinosaur , which came out later that same year, and Finding Dory , which released the following year in 2016. Those movies came in at 93 minutes and 97 minutes, separating each film from Inside Out ’s run time by only 2 minutes. Inside Out 2 will similarly represent a pattern for Pixar, as the studio goes through another wave of similarly-lengthed films.

Inside Out 2 Brings Back The Most Underused Part Of Pixar's Original 2015 Movie

With its 100 minute run time, Inside Out 2 will be far from the longest Pixar movie . That honor would go to The Incredibles 2 (2018), which boasted a 118 minute run time. Other longer Pixar films include Cars , The Incredibles , and Ratatouille . The run times for those films were 116 minutes, 115 minutes, and 111 minutes, respectively.

At 100 minutes, Inside Out 2 will be roughly in the middle of the pack in terms of Pixar run times. Pixar’s shortest films were made years ago at this point, including Toy Story in 1995 (81 minutes) and Monsters Inc. in 2001 (92 minutes). With a lot more animated technology available, it is no longer technology that limits run times, but rather creative choices. Hopefully, Inside Out 2 has made successful enough creative choices to create a well-paced plot over the course of its 100-minute run time.

Inside Out 2 releases in theaters on June 14.

Inside Out 2

Inside Out 2 is the sequel to the 2015 original film, which starred a young girl named Riley with a head full of emotions. - literally. With Amy Pohler as Joy, Bill Hader as fear, Mindy Kaling as Disgust, Phyllis Smith as Sadness, and Lewis Black as Anger, the all-star cast brought to life the emotions that adolescents face as they grow, change, and adapt to new situations. This sequel, currently in development, will bring Amy Pohler back as Joy, with Riley, now a teenager.

Krall's Bizarre Vampire Powers In Star Trek Beyond Explained

Star Trek Beyond Krall

Justin Lin's 2016 film "Star Trek Beyond" came at a strange juncture in "Star Trek" history. Paramount had two enormously successful "Star Trek" films in 2009 and 2013, both taking the ordinarily talky and contemplative franchise into a quicker, more violent, action-packed direction. Audiences flocked to those movies, both helmed by J.J. Abrams, enjoying the fact that "Star Trek" now more closely resembled "Star Wars." One year before "Beyond" was released, however, the Disney-backed Lucasfilm released "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," the first "Star Wars" theatrical feature film since 2008. "The Force Awakens" was a massive success, and the public's itch for space action was now being satisfyingly scratched. It, too, was helmed by J.J. Abrams.

With real "Star Wars" back in the public eye, audiences no longer needed the supposed "fake 'Star Wars'" action that the new Trek films provided. "Beyond," as a result, was not as massive a hit as its forebears, and Paramount put the kibosh on further entries. Note: we may still get a fourth "Star Trek" film in the Kelvin continuity , but I'll believe that when I see it.

In all three of the Kelvin movies, the story revolves around a passionately evil villain who sought revenge. For "Beyond," the villain was Krall (Idris Elba), a strange alien monster with access to millions of destructive space drones, and a device that allows him to "vampire" life energy out of people. He crash-landed on the planet Altamid a century ago and spent the ensuing time salvaging ancient Altamid technology and scheming against the Federation.

Krall's "DNA vampire" powers aren't well explained in "Beyond," so co-writer Doug Jung talked to Trek Core in 2016 to clarify a few things.

Balthazar Edison

Late in the film, it will be revealed that Krall was actually once a human named Balthazar Edison, a Starfleet officer who served on board a starship called the U.S.S. Franklin. Edison was able to stay alive on Altamid thanks to the DNA vampire technology which prolonged his life but also caused him to mutate. Edison has been alive long enough to remember the days before the Federation — his ship and uniform are from the era of "Star Trek: Enterprise"  — and he resented that the Federation made peace with previously violent enemies like the Xindi. For years, he's been searching for a destructive relic that he could as a biological weapon to kill millions and wipe out the Federation.

When Krall uses his vampire technology to siphon the life out of captured Starfleet officers, his mutations begin to correct themselves. Throughout the film, he looks more and more human. Jung said that the "Beyond" makeup team had to design the un-mutation carefully, so as not to reveal to audiences too soon that Krall was actually a human. He said:

"We had a lot of different versions. We hinted at it a lot more at one point. We talked about it more at one point. And then ultimately we just sort of decided that we needed it to be part of the whole reveal package. It's a complex idea, if you really think about what he had to do and how he had to get there. [...] [T]here was actually another phase that we took out, where Krall became too human-looking, and you would have connected the dots a little more."

No one, Jung said, was able to guess Krall and the crashed NX starship were connected. He was proud of that.

Krall's timeline

The film explains that the local technology on Altamid physically transformed Balthazar Edison into a non-human species, but why does he use the name Krall, and why doesn't he speak any human languages when audiences first see him? That will require a little delving into the timeline of events in the broader "Star Trek" chronology . Edison, recall, was commanding a ship that resembled the Enterprise from "Star Trek: Enterprise," and his uniform matched that series as well, making his life contemporary with Captain Jonathan Archer (Scott Bakula).

"Enterprise" takes place in the 2150s, and by Trek's history, the Federation was formed in 2161, after the Xindi War that destroyed the state of Florida and killed millions. That means the U.S.S. Franklin flew through a wormhole, post-Xindi conflict, and crashed on Altamid in the mid-2160s. "Star Trek Beyond," incidentally, takes place in 2263.

Altamid was uninhabited when Edison crashed, only occupied by abandoned technology. Edison, as well as a pair of surviving crewmates, would lure passing alien ships to their planet, drag them down to the surface with killer drones, and use an infernal machine to absorb the DNA of the survivors. Edison so hated the Federation's gentle humanity that he deliberately abandoned being human. He turned into an alien, changed his name, and deliberately stopped using human language.

Krall sustained himself, vampire style, for 100 years before attacking the new U.S.S. Enterprise, captained by James T. Kirk (Chris Pine). Because Kirk's Enterprise was populated by many humans, Krall vampired human DNA back into his system, and he began to change back.

All the above exposition is given in "Star Trek Beyond," however in a non-explicit fashion. Krall is still a revenge villain, but his backstory is good for a Kelvin movie.
