Gameplay [ ]

The player controls a starship, and has command of navigation, shields and weapons systems. During gameplay, the player must utilize their skills in all three to defeat enemies.

Emergency power is available for certain special functions, such as cloaking devices, overcharging weapons, and emergency turns. This energy is depleted by such functions, and regenerates at a slow rate.

Campaigns and missions [ ]

Each campaign comprises a number of separate missions. In each mission, the player starts and ends their mission at their command base. Completion of all mission objectives is not always required to succeed – some non-critical objectives may change storyline evolution, depending on whether they are achieved, or even attempted. Indeed, the storyline may mean that some initial objectives cannot be met – such as protecting a vital asset whose loss is integral to the storyline.

Successful missions will earn crew upgrade points, which can be used to improve ship capabilities, such as damage control and maneuverability. In addition, completing certain mission will unlock new ships to use in skirmish and multiplayer modes. Completing campaigns will unlock all missions for selection. It is possible to select which ship to play as during campaign in a similar manner to skirmish by pressing "up, down, left, right, select, start, B." This will not affect gameplay beyond the strength of your ship (your allies won't attack you and your enemies still will). A problem with this is in the level counterstrike only the light cruiser will have cloak and any other ship with cloak will be unable to disable the base's shields.

Federation campaign [ ]

The Federation campaign begins on stardate 7420.7 – just after the events of Star Trek: The Motion Picture – and consists of fifteen missions.

Mission 1 – "Shakedown" [ ]

  • Stardate 7428.6
  • Vessel: USS Essex , Frigate

Tutorial level, introducing the game's controls, as well as navigation and combat basics. In addition, the player will briefly encounter John Daine, a friend and Academy classmate.

Mission 2 – "Hostilities" [ ]

  • Stardate 7436.9

Departing for a routine patrol of the Klingon neutral zone, the player receives a distress call from the industrial planet Kantare, which is apparently under attack from raiders. Capt. Reynolds may choose to engage the raiders directly, or attempt to seek a peaceful resolution to the situation.

Mission 3 – "Border Patrol" [ ]

  • Stardate 7442.8

Finally beginning their patrol mission, the player encounters a Klingon ship attacking a Federation freighter, the Miriam , and must choose the best course of action to follow. Regardless of the outcome or lies, the Klingon ship will engage Capt. Reynolds and his crew after he lies about the Miriam .

Mission 4 – "Ambassador Escort" [ ]

  • Stardate 7449.3

The player must escort Vulcan Ambassador Sorlin to a Federation outpost from negotiations with the Klingons, but an unidentified vessel has other ideas…

Mission 5 – "Cloaked" [ ]

  • Stardate 7457.2
  • Vessel: USS Amundsen , Destroyer

The player must track down the Romulan ship responsible for the destruction of Ambassador Sorlin's vessel, and return to Federation space. Following the Romulan's retreat you must choose between avenging the ambassador or assisting another ship against Orion pirates.

Mission 6 – "Shore Leave" [ ]

  • Stardate 7463.1

After delivering supplies to a colony ship, the player must help in the defense of nearby outposts as the Klingons launch a full-scale attack on the sector. Depending on the amount of damage the player has taken, they can choose to participate in a counter-attack or return to Starbase 12.

Mission 7 – "Shore Up Defenses" [ ]

  • Stardate 7475.4

The player must help defend Outpost P-3 in the wake of the surprise attack, as further Klingon squadrons launch an assault. Outnumbered, the player can ask for assistance from John Daine, commanding the USS Trafalgar . After eliminating the enemy, the player must engage a Light Cruiser with assistance from Daine.

Mission 8 – "Behind Enemy Lines" [ ]

  • Stardate 7487.5
  • Vessel: USS Polaris , Light Cruiser

The player must assist in the recovery of the USS Repulse – a light cruiser caught behind enemy lines and heavily damaged – defending it from Klingon attack in the Amar system.

Mission 9 – "Klingon Raiders" [ ]

  • Stardate 7498.7

A continuing series of raids against Federation targets have been traced back to their origin. The player, assisted by the heavy cruiser USS Achilles , must put a stop to these raids.

Mission 10 – "Counterstrike" [ ]

  • Stardate 7507.2

Equipped with the Romulan cloaking device – much like the Klingons, captured by the USS Enterprise in 2268 , the player uses a cloaking device to destroy a Klingon starbase, after avoiding being detected, while also assuming responsibility for a Light Cruiser and Destroyer assigned to assist you.

Mission 11 – "Sherman's Planet" [ ]

  • Stardate 7519.6

The USS Enterprise is under attack at Sherman's Planet. After repelling a Klingon attack on Outpost P-3, the player must help eliminate the Klingon forces around the planet and allow the recovery of Captain Kirk , stranded on the planet's surface. At the same time, the player must ensure the USS Trafalgar – John Daine's vessel – survives.

Mission 12 – "Recovery" [ ]

  • Stardate 7531.8
  • Vessel: USS Jefferson , Heavy Cruiser

With a ceasefire in effect, the player is tasked to rescue vessels in distress in the combat zone, and investigate the debris of both ships: Federation / Klingons, but they encounter an unknown vessel, the Romulan Heavy Cruiser. This mission requires the player to choose between the safety of his crew and helping other vessels.

Mission 13 – "Peace Treaty" [ ]

  • Stardate 7539.1

Peace negotiations are going forward, and the player must help escort Klingon ambassador Karf to Starbase 2. John Daine will accompany the player in his new command, the USS Martel , a dreadnought.

Mission 14 – "Rogue" [ ]

  • Stardate 7552.9

John Daine is revealed to have been in collusion with Romulan forces to sabotage the ongoing peace efforts. The player must track Daine and the Martel down and stop them, by force if necessary.

Mission 15 – "In Defense of Peace" [ ]

  • Stardate 7564.2

With the location of the peace talks known, the player must act as bait in a trap to draw out the Romulan forces and eliminate them.

Klingon campaign [ ]

The Klingon campaign begins on stardate 23018.6, at the time of the Khitomer Massacre of 2346 , and consists of sixteen missions.

Mission 1 – "Proving Ground" [ ]

  • Stardate 23018.6
  • Vessel: IKS Karfon , Bird-of-Prey

Training level, focusing on more advanced combat techniques, including a live-fire exercise against a fellow Command School graduate to the death, It is possible to accept his surrender after inflicting enough damage, but this will earn you a lower score.

Mission 2 – "Sneak Attack" [ ]

  • Stardate 23024.3

During routine patrol duty, the player receives a distress call from the Khitomer outpost, under attack by Romulan ships, and must assist in eliminating enemy forces, tracking them to the Neutral Zone, before docking at the planet's orbital station.

Mission 3 – "The Hub" [ ]

  • Stardate 23029.5

The player is ordered to destroy a Romulan communications array – a vital target that must be eliminated in order for a counterattack to proceed, after requesting Commander Korok to assist in destroying two vessels.

Mission 4 – "Assault" [ ]

  • Stardate 23036.8
  • Vessel: IKS Kalen , Destroyer

The player must attack and destroy six Romulan ships under repair at a nearby starbase. The vessels are without power, but must be destroyed quickly before their crews can bring them to operational status. The base itself is not to be destroyed. But it doesn't matter if it is.

Mission 5 – "Under Cover" [ ]

  • Stardate 23042.9
  • Vessel: Dominus , Romulan Destroyer

With a captured Romulan ship provided by the Federation, the player must penetrate the Romulan front line and gather intelligence on fleet strength and deployment. This poses a challenge when a Klingon squadron is encountered engaging a group of Romulan ships. Although Kadir's response to his subordinate's idea of destroying the shipyard would indicate otherwise, it does not lower your score. You will however be required to destroy two pursuers with assistance from the Klingon squadron at the beginning. (It doesn't matter if you destroy them.)

Mission 6 – "Assassination" [ ]

  • Stardate 23051.4

While en route to the Romulan Neutral Zone, Captain Kadir and his crew are ordered to hunt down the Romulan Emperor to keep him from reaching Romulus. Commander Kell and his crew join them in this effort.

Mission 7 – "Invaders" [ ]

  • Stardate 23058.2
  • Vessel: IKS Hekra , Light Cruiser

Responding to a distress call from a mining colony, the Hekra encounters three unexpected ships, Gorn light cruisers. The IKS Ba'Nath arrives to share the noble victory and stand for honor.

Mission 8 – "Supply Lines" [ ]

  • Stardate 23067.1

The crew of the IKS Hekra are ordered to raid a Romulan convoy and destroy as many Romulan freighters as possible; however it is a trap.

Mission 9 – "Outpost Defense" [ ]

  • Stardate 23073.1

The crew of IKS Hekra are ordered to patrol the Klingon border, and then meet up with the Ba'Nath .

Mission 10 – "Pursuit" [ ]

  • Stardate 23077.6

Capt. Kadir and his crew of IKS Hekra are ordered to retrieve a Gorn prisoner by the chancellor of the Empire himself.

Mission 11 – "Rebellion" [ ]

  • Stardate 23085.2

Kadir and his crew are set off to Otron, and meet up with the USS Olsen , then hunt down rogue Klingon vessels.

Mission 12 – "Hidden from View" [ ]

  • Stardate 23092.4
  • Vessel: IKS Va'tal , Heavy Cruiser

Capt. Kadir and his crew, now aboard the IKS Va'tal are ordered to the Klentek Sector to listen in on Romulan transmissions; they then head to the Neutral Zone. They then encounter a vessel belonging to the House of Duras, the Porthis , conspiring with the Romulans, and must then destroy them both.

Mission 13 – "Joining Forces" [ ]

  • Stardate 23106.3

The crew of the IKS Va'tal are ordered to meet up with Commander Korok (IKS Klath ) to wipe out a fleet of ships belonging to the House of Duras.

Mission 14 – "Diplomatic Failure" [ ]

  • Stardate 23114.9

Capt. Kadir and the rest of IKS Va'tal crew are ordered to a nebula to meet up with Chancellor Vagh. They then discover that the Orions have been working with the Gorn to stir up trouble in Klingon space.

Mission 15 – "Return to Kronos" [ ]

  • Stardate 23128.5

Commander Tirak takes over the Duras forces after their leader, Ja'rod, has been defeated by Mogh and his troops at Khitomer. Kadir, Vor'th, and Chancellor Vagh make way towards Kronos to wipe out the Duras forces, but the Duras forces attempt to destroy the chancellor's vessel, so Kadir and Vor'th must defend the chancellor. Kadir and his crew must then stop Commander Tirak at the Vor'ka Sector, while Vor'th escorts the chancellor back to Kronos for the last stand of the Duras forces.

Mission 16 – "Final Battle" [ ]

  • Stardate 23137.1

Capt. Kadir, Commander Korok, General Vor'th, Chancellor Vagh, and all the Klingon forces must engage the Romulans, defeat General Talkir, then eliminate the phantom Hi-Dhai-bah once and for all, to avenge those lost on Khitomer and bring peace and justice to the Empire.

Skirmish and Multiplayer modes [ ]

Skirmish [ ].

Skirmish mode allows the player to engage in combat with computer-controlled opponents. All unlocked vessels can be played, and varying difficulty levels are available, allowing the player to choose the type(s) of vessels they may engage. The level of complexity of the combat zone may also be selected, as well as the amount of upgrades all involved parties have, which will increase or decrease the amount of time a match lasts.

Multiplayer [ ]

Multiplayer mode works similarly to Skirmish mode, but two Human players engage in combat. Both players are required to have a copy of the game in order to use Multiplayer mode. Two other gametypes are available besides Skirmish: Battlefest, in which each player will start as a frigate and proceed towards dreadnought with each death, and Battlefest Lite, which is the same as Battlefest but starting a destroyer going to Heavy Cruiser.

Starships [ ]

The game provides a database of all unlocked vessels, including basic information on their capabilities, such as weaponry, shield strength, and speed. All data are in-game statistics. Interestingly, in the Nintendo version the Romulan, Gorn, and Orion ships all have the same control setup in the lower screen.

Gameplay and controls are nearly identical in each version, since the control interfaces on both are similar. Each version contains the same content but has its own merits:

  • The DS version allows players to issue commands, scan, and engage the warp drive all from the systems touch screen.
  • The PSP version possesses superior graphics as well as a CD-quality soundtrack, as opposed to the DS versions MIDI-quality soundtrack.

Star Trek: Tactical Assault

The Star Trek franchise continues to live long, but prosper? Not so much. Read Review

A unique Star Trek game for handheld systems by the creators of Starfleet Command, Star Trek: Tactical Assault takes place entirely in the original Star Trek universe and gives players total control over authentic Star Trek ships and weaponry in tense battle encounters. Both the Federation and Klingon campaign modes feature real-time combat with branching missions and multiple outcomes. Wireless multiplayer mode allows you to test your skills and tactical maneuvers against those of your friends. Successful gameplay relies on strategic movement and effective use of a ship's weapons and shields.

PSP Review - 'Star Trek: Tactical Assault'

star trek psp

Genre: Real-Time Strategy Publisher: Bethesda Softworks Developer: Quicksilver Release Date: November 14, 2006

Besides a famous mouse that will go unnamed, Star Trek has to be one of the most marketed entertainment products of all time. Unfortunately, most of the game development for this franchise has been about creating fortune instead of fame.

Star Trek: Tactical Assault combines real-time strategic elements with increasingly intense space battles, and it features the races, weapons and starships with which Star Trek fans will be familiar. The only element absent from the formula is the Star Trek characters. As you progress through the two single-player campaigns, you'll be required to investigate and decide the best course of action. You'll complete missions and earn upgrade points which can be used to upgrade the capabilities of your crew. In addition to the single-player campaigns, Star Trek: Tactical Assault includes multiplayer modes that offer some excellent competitive fun for up to four players.

There is little to complain about with the visual presentation of Tactical Assault . There are a few noticeable "jaggies" to some of the graphics, but overall, the game is quite visually pleasing. It's worth mentioning that the opening sequence of the game is excellent, especially with the included voice-over work of William Shatner. Unfortunately, beyond some movie and TV quotes which are displayed during load screens, there are no further "tie-ins" to the Star Trek personalities that made the series and movies memorable.

The strong musical score works well to heighten the intensity of battles as well as bring the "feel" of the Star Trek experience to the PSP platform. The sound effects are what you'd expect from a space-action title, and they consistently blend in with the gameplay. Control-wise, there are too many two-button commands for my taste, but the game is still fairly comfortable to navigate and play.

star trek psp

The single-player segment consists of a Federation and a Klingon Campaign, and you must successfully complete the former in order to unlock the latter. In both campaigns, you'll start out as a new captain who must prove his/her skill in both leadership and combat. Training is performed during the first mission after you're introduced to your crew and new starship. Missions will always begin and end with a captain's log entry. The starting entry usually provides a clue as to what to expect during the mission, and it can often help with posturing during any conversations that might occur. Assigned missions will often require you to investigate situations and choose the best course of action; any decisions will directly affect the campaign's ongoing storyline. As expected, you'll find that most of your time won't be spent chatting, but by engaging enemies in combat. As is consistent with Trek universe, if you're playing as a federation captain, you're required to set one of three alert levels, depending on the situation. This has never made much sense to me because if you're being attacked, you shouldn't have to first issue a command to go to yellow or red alert before your shields or combat systems come online. I suppose it's only fair, however, since Klingon captains are also required to set alert levels, although they only have two.

Tactical Assault 's upgrade system acts both as a reward and leveling system during the single-player campaigns. After successfully completing a mission, you receive crew upgrade points, which can be spent to upgrade the capabilities of the crew members in five different positions: Captain, Executive Officer, Helm, Tactical and Engineering. In each of these positions (except for Captain), three different upgrades can be improved up to three times. The upgrade system is a critical factor in succeeding in missions; since mission difficulty substantially increases as you progress through the campaign, choosing the best upgrades early is important.

star trek psp

Each of the three distinct races in Tactical Assault have special abilities during gameplay. Federation ships have the ability to recharge their shields while Klingon and Romulan ships have cloaking capabilities. Except for a few tactical adjustments that you'll have to make to address special abilities, you will find that all combat in Star Trek: Tactical Assault will follow the same recurring pattern. You first maneuver your starship back and forth near your target, spinning carefully to avoid hits to failing areas of your shield while you fire back using your port and aft weapons. Additionally, you do have some tactical control during combat by managing your emergency power assignments. You can choose to overpower your weapons to hit your enemy harder, or make emergency turns, accelerations, or stops. During combat, it's rare that you'll only encounter a single enemy, so expect a fair amount of repetition during combat.

If enemy starships weren't enough to deal with, the high density of asteroids, moons and planets that will often occupy the same small battle space will significantly raise the difficulty level of most confrontations. You may be wondering what kind of space captain would be foolish enough to hit a moon or a planet, and the answer would be: the kind who would expect these types of objects to have the proper scale.

In what I consider to be one of the most serious flaws I've seen in a space adventure, the planets and moons in Tactical Assault don't have proper scale, and they don't change in scale as you approach them, either. While playing, you'll experience the sensation that a particular planet is miles off in the distance, but in reality, you're right next to it. It's as if the celestial bodies are cut-out movie props, and if you hit any of the props, err … planets, you'll most likely fail your mission, unless you only scrape your ship across one and manage to come out relatively unscathed.

star trek psp

Asteroids are another matter altogether. Your view of space is normally restricted to the direction in which your ship is facing, and if you're moving fast enough, you will most likely end up colliding with an asteroid before you even see it. The best solution is to first be aware of all the different obstacles around you and position yourself as far away from them as possible prior to engaging the enemy.

While you may find the single-player campaigns to be a bit mediocre, Tactical Assault does offer some great multiplayer action using the PSP's networking capabilities. You can set up to host or join in on three different multiplayer modes. The first is a basic Skirmish mode, where you can battle with up to four friends with various starships on five different maps. The second type of game is called Battle Fest, where you start with the lowest class of starship, and as your starship is destroyed, you start the next round with the next vessel class. If you're the first captain to run out of starship classes, you lose the game. The last game mode is a subset of Battle Fest and only lets you compete through three starship classes.

Star Trek: Tactical Assault really tries to present itself as a tactical real-time strategy game, but unfortunately, it just doesn't measures up due to the lackluster storyline and repetitive nature of the gameplay. Although the Star Trek tech is present, the characters who really made the franchise interesting are absent. The saying goes, "Space is a really big place," so why would you have to regularly dodge planets, moons and asteroids while fighting your adversaries? Tactical Assault does offer excellent multiplayer gameplay, and it will be this feature that will keep dust from collecting on its case. If you're a true Star Trek fan, you'll most likely want to add Star Trek: Tactical Assault to your collection, but everyone else may want to consider warping over to a different title.

Score: 6.5/10

‘Star Trek’ Origin Story Movie Will Be Set Decades Before 2009 Film

CinemaCon 2024: The new project will be produced by longtime “Star Trek” steward J.J. Abrams

star-trek-2009-chris-pine-zachary-quinto

Paramount Pictures is ready to boldly go (again).

After rumors circulated earlier this year, Paramount officially announced a new “Star Trek” prequel film on Thursday, this time taking place decades before the original 2009 “Star Trek” feature.

“Andor” director Toby Haynes will direct from a script by Seth Grahame-Smith (who is also writing another hotly touted CinemaCon title, the third “Now You See Me” film). J.J. Abrams is returning to produce.

But then again, we’ve heard about a new “Star Trek” movie before.

star trek psp

During the run-up to “Star Trek Beyond” in 2016, it was revealed that a fourth film would reunite Chris Pine’s Captain Kirk with his deceased father (played, once again, by Chris Hemsworth). A year later, Quentin Tarantino approached Paramount about doing a “Star Trek” movie – this time as an R-rated gangster movie (based, in part, on the 1968 episode of the original series “A Piece of the Action”). In 2018 S.J. Clarkson, a TV vet who would eventually direct “Madame Web,” was hired to direct the fourth film in the Abrams-verse, but salary disputes led to Pine and Hemsworth leaving the project. That version was canceled in 2019 and Tarantino stated in 2020 that he wouldn’t be making his “Star Trek” either.

In November 2019 “Fargo” creator Noah Hawley was hired to write and direct a new “Star Trek” film based on his version of the series. A year later, this movie was canceled by new Paramount Pictures president Emma Watts. In 2021 “Star Trek: Discovery” writer Kalinda Vazquez was hired to write a version based on her original pitch, but a separate script was being developed by Lindsey Beer and Geneva Robertson-Dworet. The studio even set a summer 2023 release date for a new “Trek” (which “Trek” was the question).

In 2021 that release date was pushed to Christmas 2023, under the direction of “WandaVision” director Matt Shakman. Josh Friedman and Cameron Squires were brought on to retool the script. In early 2022 it was announced that the stars of the three previous “Star Trek” installments in the Abrams-verse would all be returning, although it was later reported that the actors had not entered negotiations to return.

In 2022 Shakman left “Star Trek” to join Marvel Studios’ “The Fantastic Four.” But just last month Steve Yockey was hired to write a fourth “Star Trek” movie.

Now, we are finally getting word of another film in development, with another writer/director team. But it’s not the first time that a “Star Trek” prequel script has been floated, as Erik Jendresen, cowriter of “Mission: Impossible: Dead Reckoning,” had submitted a script for “Star Trek: The Beginning” before J.J. had taken over and pitched his 2009 version. It depicted the Earth-Romulan War.

Star trek is ditching discovery's spore drive - and that's good.

Stamets reveals that there will be no more spore drives after Star Trek: Discovery season 5, which is good news for Starfleet in the 32nd century.

WARNING: This article contains SPOILERS for Star Trek: Discovery season 5, episodes 1 & 2!

  • Starfleet's decision to abandon the spore drive in Discovery season 5 is a smart move for the future of the franchise.
  • The spore drive's ability to instantly transport the USS Discovery can hinder dramatic tension and urgency in storytelling.
  • The new pathway drive technology will likely power the adventures in Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, replacing the spore drive.

Star Trek: Discovery has revealed that Starfleet is ditching the groundbreaking spore drive, which is a good thing for the future of the franchise's 32nd century timeline. The USS Discovery's spore drive was an experimental technology from the 2200s that became invaluable in Star Trek 's dilithium-starved 32nd century. Pioneered by Commander Paul Stamets (Anthony Rapp) and his research partner, Straal (Saad Siddiqui), the spore drive was a way to navigate a subspace mycelium network of fungal roots that spanned the entire universe . The Federation-Klingon War necessitated a rapid scaling up of Stamets and Staal's research to create a brand-new propulsion system.

The USS Discovery is the only starship in the entire Star Trek timeline to both possess and successfully operate Stamets and Staal's spore drive. The ship owned by Cleveland "Book" Booker (David Ajala) had a stolen spore drive prototype fitted in Star Trek: Discovery season 4, but it was destroyed when Ruon Tarka (Shawn Doyle) crashed into Species 10-C's hyperfield. The Discovery's predecessor, the USS Glenn, suffered a catastrophic accident when testing one of the original spore drives, resulting in the death of all hands . Now that Starfleet has shuttered the spore drive project in season 5, the USS Discovery will always be a one of a kind starship.

Every New Version Of Warp Drive In Star Trek

Why star trek is right to drop discovery’s spore drive after season 5.

Star Trek: Discovery 's spore drive may be a huge leap forward for Starfleet, but it can create a lot of story issues for the viewers at home. Ultimately, the USS Discovery's ability to appear wherever it needs to can seriously hamper the dramatic tension . Discovery season 5's treasure hunt is a good example of how the spore drive can negatively impact storytelling. The audience is repeatedly told that the Progenitors' treasure must not fall into the hands of L'ak (Elias Toufexis) and Moll (Eve Harlow), setting up a thrilling race against time.

The only problem is that, because Discovery can just instantaneously jump to the next location on their treasure map, there's time for the crew to drop off Captain Saru (Doug Jones) before they head to Trill. This undermines any sense of urgency with Star Trek: Discovery season 5's treasure hunt. In other Star Trek shows, a warp drive means that the hero ship and its crew are constantly moving forward, heading to their next destination . There's an urgency to these onward journeys that Star Trek: Discovery just doesn't have.

For example, it's hard to imagine Star Trek: The Next Generation 's classic "The Best of Both Worlds" having the same impact with a spore drive. The emotional gut punch of the USS Enterprise-D arriving too late to save the thousands of lives lost at the Battle of Wolf 359. By dropping the spore drive in Star Trek: Discovery season 5, it could restore some dramatic urgency and forward motion to the storytelling in the upcoming Starfleet Academy show , which will also be set in the 32nd century.

Discovery’s Warp Drive Replacement Made It A Different Star Trek Show

Ironically, given its name, the USS Discovery hasn't done much discovering over the course of Star Trek: Discovery 's five seasons . While it's true that they've sought out strange new worlds and made contact with new life and civilizations, their discoveries have been a lot less spontaneous than those of their predecessors. Possessing a spore drive, the USS Discovery is regularly dropped into the heat of the action, be that a battle with the Emerald Chain or a short hop to the Galactic Barrier to meet Species 10-C.

Star Trek: Discovery "Ushered In A New Era" & "Made A Difference", Say Executive Producers

This has given Star Trek: Discovery a unique feel from other Star Trek TV shows , helping the show to stand out from its franchise stablemates. Discovery being dropped into various hot spots by Starfleet is often very exciting, and marks out Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) as the most important captain in Star Trek 's 32nd century. The only drawback of this approach is that it can often feel like the Discovery crew are sitting around waiting for orders, rather than exploring the wider Star Trek universe .

Starfleet Is Right To Abandon The Spore Drive In Discovery Season 5

After the events of Star Trek: Discovery season 4, it might be prudent for Starfleet to abandon the spore drive going forward. The actions of Ruon Tarka and Book showed just how dangerous the spore drive technology was if it fell into the hands of people with bad intentions . Tarka and Book almost caused the destruction of Earth by launching hostile action against Species 10-C, and this worst case scenario was averted when Booker finally saw sense.

Indeed, the very fact that Stamets' spore drive research was co-opted by Starfleet during wartime is proof of its more dangerous implications. Villainous figures like Captain Gabriel Lorca (Jason Isaacs) and Osyraa (Janet Kidder) have coveted the USS Discovery's unique technology, hoping to use it to assert power and destroy their enemies rather than learn more about the mycelial network. By closing down the spore drive research program in Star Trek: Discovery season 5, Starfleet can further prevent this valuable technology from falling into the wrong hands .

Star Trek: Discovery Science YouTube Show BioTrekkie With The Admiral Returns In April

Will star trek: starfleet academy have its own warp drive replacement.

Star Trek: Discovery 's spore drive is just one of many attempts made to replace Starfleet's traditional warp drive . First, there was the USS Excelsior, " The Great Experiment " which tried and failed to perfect transwarp technology in the late 23rd century. A hundred years later, and Star Trek: Prodigy 's USS Protostar was equipped with a proto-drive, allowing it to cross lightyears like never before. Similarly, the USS Dauntless, commanded by Vice Admiral Kathryn Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) in Prodigy season 1, was fitted with a quantum slipstream drive that was also incredibly powerful. Starfleet's latest innovation in the 32nd century is the pathway drive, first mentioned in Star Trek: Discovery 's season 4 premiere.

Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 will unveil the USS Voyager-A, which will be "bigger" than the USS Protostar, suggesting improvements on either the proto or quantum slipstream drives.

Not much is known about this new technology, but now that the spore drive has been dropped, the pathway drive will be the new standard in Star Trek: Discovery 's 32nd century. Captain Rayner (Callum Keith Rennie) notes that his ship, the USS Antares, doesn't have a pathway drive, meaning that it's still in the early stages. The pathway drive was tested by the 32nd century's USS Voyager , and has presumably been proven as a more viable alternative to dilithium-powered warp than the spore drive. This means that the new pathway drive will likely be powering the adventures of the crew in Star Trek: Starfleet Academy .

Star Trek: Discovery streams Thursdays on Paramount+.

Star Trek: Discovery

Star Trek: Discovery is an entry in the legendary Sci-Fi franchise, set ten years before the original Star Trek series events. The show centers around Commander Michael Burnham, assigned to the USS Discovery, where the crew attempts to prevent a Klingon war while traveling through the vast reaches of space.

Star Trek Origin Movie Officially Announced By Paramount For 2025 Release

  • Paramount Pictures announces new Star Trek movie for 2025, directed by Toby Haynes and written by Seth Grahame-Smith.
  • Chris Pine-led Star Trek 4 remains in development, while the new film is an origin story set decades before Abrams' 2009 movie.
  • Alongside the Star Trek origin movie, Paramount reveals a packed slate of exciting films for 2025-26 at CinemaCon in Las Vegas.

Paramount Pictures officially announces the next Star Trek movie, which is scheduled to arrive in theaters in 2025. As reported in January, the next Star Trek movie isn't the long-delayed, Chris Pine-led Star Trek 4 produced by J.J. Abrams, which remains in development at Paramount. Rather, the next Star Trek movie is an origin story directed by Toby Haynes ( Star Wars: Andor ) and written by Seth Grahame-Smith (A braham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter ).

Screen Rant' s Rob Keyes (@rob_keyes) is at CinemaCon in Las Vegas where Paramount Pictures confirmed the next Star Trek movie , currently called Untitled Star Trek Origin Story , to be released in 2025. J.J. Abrams is also producing Untitled Star Trek Origin Story, which takes place decades before Abrams' Star Trek 2009 movie. See Rob Keyes' Tweet below:

Paramount also confirmed Untitled Star Trek Origin Story will begin production later this year for theatrical release in 2025.

Every Upcoming Star Trek Movie & TV Show

Star trek's new movies in theaters and paramount plus explained, star trek is finally making movies again.

After nearly a decade, Star Trek i s back to making movies. Star Trek on Paramount+ has created a television renaissance for the franchise, but the theatrical side of Star Trek overseen by Paramount Pictures has languished in development hell since Star Trek Beyond bowed in the summer of 2016. Toby Haynes' Untitled Star Trek Origin Story is yet another prequel, but as it's said to be set decades before Star Trek 2009, it could very well be set after Star Trek: Enterprise 's mid-22nd century voyages but otherwise be an origin story for both Star Trek 's Prime and alternate Kelvin timelines .

Meanwhile, J.J. Abrams' Star Trek 4 , which is the "final chapter" of the USS Enterprise crew led by Chris Pine's Captain James T. Kirk and Zachary Quinto's Spock, has seen some movement with a new screenwriter, Steve Yockey ( The Flight Attendant ), tackling the long-delayed sequel. Pine and his fellow Star Trek actors, including Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, and Sofia Boutella, have all expressed their eagerness to return if Star Trek 4 can come together.

It's a positive sign that Star Trek movies are finally coming back.

Paramount+ is making their own Star Trek movies, with the recently-wrapped Star Trek: Section 31 awaiting a release date. Starring Academy Award-winner Michelle Yeoh, Section 31 i s the first made-for-streaming Star Trek movie, and it is reportedly set during Star Trek 's "lost era" with connections to Star Trek: The Next Generation. Section 31 could get a sequel if successful, and the Star Trek: Picard spinoff dubbed Star Trek: Legacy may also become a streaming movie instead of a series. However all this shakes out, it's a positive sign that Star Trek movies are finally coming back.
