Comedian Peter Kay has been forced to postpone two shows at Co-op Live in Manchester due to the brand-new arena's power testing falling "a few days" behind schedule.

The record-breaking stand-up comedian had been due to open the new venue - which is now the UK's biggest arena - on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.

The 50-year-old Phoenix Nights star said in a statement: "I'm truly gutted as I know how disappointing this will be for everyone with tickets, but obviously it's a brand-new venue and it's important that everything is finished and safe for full capacity audiences.

"Fortunately, we've been able to reschedule the shows to next week, (I'll have to miss my Bums & Tums class) but hopefully I'll see you then."

Co-op Live shared a statement on their Twitter feed, telling followers: "Following our first test event on Saturday, regretfully we have made the difficult decision to reschedule our two opening performances by Peter Kay.

"These dates will move from 23 April and 24 Wednesday to Monday 29 and Tuesday 30 April."

The spokesperson for the venue explained that an issue around the power supply was the cause of the cancellation.

"It is critical to ensure we have a consistent total power supply to our fully electric sustainable venue, the completion of which is a few days behind.

"Rescheduling gives us the extra time we need to continue testing thoroughly. This is vital to satisfy the rigorous set of guidelines and protocols that are necessary for a venue of this size."

The statement added: "Peter Kay has very graciously agreed to perform his record-breaking comedy at Co-op Live on 29 (rescheduled from 23) and 30 (rescheduled from 24) April 2024. All tickets remain valid and ticket holders will be contacted by their point of purchase."

They said refunds would be available for any ticketholders who could no longer attend the event, and flagged that the date change might mean new tickets become available for fans who missed out the first time round.

The venue added: "We are very sorry for the inconvenience that this change will undoubtedly cause for some. We are thrilled to welcome Peter Kay as our grand opening act just a few days later than planned."

Over the weekend, a preview concert starring Rick Astley was also hit by delays, with ticket capacity slashed just hours before his gig was due to begin.

Astley fans who had their tickets cancelled have instead been offered seats to see US rock band the Black Keys play next week.

Once fully open, the arena - which is next to Manchester City's football ground - will have a capacity of 23,500, overtaking the capacity of the existing Manchester Arena which has a capacity of 21,000.

Built at an estimated cost of £365m, the arena counts former One Direction singer Harry Styles as one of its investors, with the pop star also advising on some elements of the arena's design.

Other stars set to play at the venue include Take That, Liam Gallagher, Olivia Rodrigo and Eric Clapton.

Peter Kay has been on a comeback tour - his first since 2010 - since December, with stops in Birmingham, Manchester and Leeds scheduled through to next year.

In 2010, Kay won the Guinness World Record for the biggest-selling stand-up tour of all time - playing to a total of 1.2 million people.

ITV Granada Reports Entertainment Correspondent Caroline Whitmore attended the test event and was not surprised by the announcement

The UK's largest and newest arena has postponed its opening night with just 24 hours notice after work failed to finish on time.

Bolton -comedian Peter Kay was due to perform two shows at the 23,500 capacity Co-op Live Arena in Manchester , on Tuesday 23 April and Wednesday 24 April.

However, the gigs have been cancelled with less than a day to go after a test event on Saturday found issues with the power supply in certain parts of the venue.

The highly-anticipated show was set to act as the grand opening for the city's flagship new venue, the largest in the UK. But just the day before, it has been announced that both shows have been cancelled with work not yet complete on the Eastlands venue.

The council's building control is also yet to sign the building off.

Instead, Peter Kay will perform on Monday 29 and Tuesday 30 April, a week later than planned.

What this means for ticket holders:

All tickets will remain valid for the rescheduled performances.

Ticket providers will be getting in touch with customers with details.

For those who now cannot attend, a full refund will be available.

It has not yet been confirmed whether pre-booked parking will carry over, or if customers will have to re-book.

Peter Kay said: “I’m truly gutted as I know how disappointing this will be for everyone with tickets, but obviously it’s a brand-new venue and it’s important that everything is finished and safe for full capacity audiences.

"Fortunately, we’ve been able to reschedule the shows to next week, (I’ll have to miss my Bums & Tums class) but hopefully I’ll see you then.”

The Black Keys' performance on Saturday 27 April is still scheduled to go ahead.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Co-op Live said: "Following our first test event on Saturday, regretfully we have made the difficult decision to reschedule our two opening performances by Peter Kay.

"It is critical to ensure we have a consistent total power supply to our fully electric sustainable venue, the completion of which is a few days behind.

"Rescheduling gives us the extra time we need to continue testing thoroughly. This is vital to satisfy the rigorous set of guidelines and protocols that are necessary for a venue of this size.

"Peter Kay has very graciously agreed to perform his record-breaking comedy at Co-op Live on 29 (rescheduled from 23) and 30 (rescheduled from 24) April 2024.

"We are very sorry for the inconvenience that this change will undoubtedly cause for some.

"We are thrilled to welcome Peter Kay as our grand opening act just a few days later than planned."

A spokesman for Manchester City Council said the decision to postpone shows was one made entirely by the venue.

It is understood a practical completion certificate has not been issued by the authority’s building control department because there are elements of the building which have not yet been completed, however, that would not prevent the venue from operating

The council spokesman said: “We respect the decision by Co-op Live to rearrange their first public events at the new arena.

“Although no doubt disappointing for both the venue and those who were attending the first shows this week, it is the right decision if they feel the venue is not ready to welcome visitors and their systems aren’t fully tested.

“The council will continue to work closely with the venue as they push to complete the arena and prepare to host their first official shows.”

Renowned comedian Peter Kay has released a statement of disappointment after his highly-anticipated performances at the Co-op Live arena were cancelled just 24 hours before they were due to take place.

The Car Share funnyman was slated to debut tomorrow and present a follow-up show on April 24 at the UK's largest indoor venue. However, it has now been confirmed these dates have been pushed back to April 29 and April 30 to "ensure [the arena ] have a consistent total power supply to [their] fully electric sustainable venue".

Peter stated: "I'm truly gutted as I know how disappointing this will be for everyone with tickets, but obviously it's a brand-new venue and it's important that everything is finished and safe for full capacity audiences. Fortunately, we've been able to reschedule the shows to next week, (I'll have to miss my Bums and Tums class) but hopefully I'll see you then."

These unforeseen cancellations followed issues observed during the launch event at the 23,500 capacity arena last Saturday, reports the Liverpool Echo . An audience of 11,000 had booked in anticipation of Rick Astley's headliner performance, only for capacity to be drastically reduced at the eleventh hour. A statement from Co-op validated that the arena's official inauguration had to be postponed following the test event.

Co-op Live added: "We can't wait to welcome fans to Co-op Live for our official grand opening events with Peter Kay, and to showcase Co-op Live at its very best. We will still be hosting The Black Keys on 27 April in the lower bowl with 10K fans as planned, and will continue to test the resilience of the venue and its operations."

Eighties megastar fans fume over ticket cancellations ‘an hour’ before show

Rick Astley Performs At The BIC, Bournemouth

Rick Astley fans were fuming after the new Co-op Live Manchester arena cancelled tickets for a free test event featuring the megastar.

11,000 people were set to watch the Never Gonna Give You Up hitmaker, 58, over the weekend, before the venue cancelled a bunch of tickets to reduce capacity.

The 23,500-seater arena – set to have the largest capacity of any indoor arena in the UK – were forced to apologise after making the ‘difficult decision’ short-notice.

‘To enable us to test the spaces effectively, we have made the difficult decision to reduce overall capacity for today’s test event,’ the venue said in a statement, adding: ‘We apologise for the inconvenience this will undoubtedly cause.’

Those affected were contacted by the venue and ticket sellers, who offered them places instead at the Black Keys’ concert this week as a ‘gesture of our appreciation’, the Co-op Live representative said.

Fans weren’t happy, as @ByronEdwards9 took to X and wrote: ‘Invitational tickets to the test event tonight cancelled just 90 minutes before doors open. What kind of s**t show is this?’

Rick Astley Performs At The Motorpoint Arena Nottingham

Alison Stafford-Bentley said: ‘Thanks for cancelling tickets for tonight less than an hour before event is due to start. Absolutely fuming.’

@RogerCrow managed to get his hands on tickets after the initial scare, as he took to X writing: ‘Well #cooplive was an absolute shambles – one of our tickets cancelled 90 mins before the gig, way too late, but eventually found someone who let us in, and the acts did not disappoint. #rickastley was phenomenal and great acoustics.’

Those who attended the event seemed to enjoy themselves, as Lisa Morton wrote, ‘Absolutely brilliant,’ alongside a clip from the night, and attendee Matt Biker shared a video of the pop icon singing Never Gonna Give You Up, commenting: ‘That song has aged well. He was so good last night.’

While the ticket may have been free, some were miffed they’d wasted time and money travelling to the event, as @TasneemSuleman5 commented on X: ‘Why send the email at 16.34 when doors open at 6pm. We were travelling from Leeds and had already set off, what about the money wasted on petrol?’

Aerial view of CO-OP Live Arena, due to open on April 2024

Jan Fisher agreed, as she wrote: ‘Sending an email at 1634 when we were already on our way, we had 4 tickets and were totally humiliated in the queue, yes sorry, you can’t come in. Spent money on a meal before we travelled & hour to be told no!’

A Co-op Live spokesperson shared a statement which said: ‘We’re busy putting the finishing touches on Co-op Live, and we are looking forward to Co-op Live becoming the pre-eminent arena in the UK upon opening.

‘As a part of the opening process, we are in the midst of an extensive protocol of testing critical procedures. To enable us to test the spaces effectively, we have made the difficult decision to reduce overall capacity for today’s test event. We apologise to affected guests and look forward to welcoming them to the Black Keys.’

Comedian Peter Kay will officially open the arena on Tuesday.

The £365 million venue has had investment from  local and pop megastar   Harry Styles – who is a minor financial partner – and he’s even been involved in giving advice on certain design elements.

Harry Styles at the Brit Awards on stage

The venue has been built by City Football Group, which is owned by billionaire Sheikh Mansour, who is an UAE royal and the country’s deputy prime minister.

Oakview Music Group have also played a big role, with the organisation co-founded by music mogul Irving Azoff, whose business partner and son Jeff manages the likes of U2 and Harry Styles himself.

Further backers include SJM and Gaiety, and the venue wants to build on securing this year’s MTV Europe Music Awards with other massive events.

Chatting about the huge venue, set to be the London O2 Arena of the north, Co-op Live executive director and general manager Gary Roden told the BBC: ‘There’s no reason why the Brits can’t come up north.’

‘It’s an innovative space, with modern suites and even an in-house gym for artists, while Harry himself advised on no advertising boards to let performers focus on enjoying the moment.

‘That costs us money not to have advertising in here,’ Gary added. ‘But that’s a decision that we’ve made in order to maximise the connection between artist and fan.’

Olivia Rodrigo , Keane, Take That, Elbow, Eagles, The Smashing Pumpkins, James, Liam Gallagher, Pearl Jam, Megan Thee Stallion, Stevie Nicks, Kings of Leon, Justin Timberlake, Niall Horan, Eric Clapton and others are all set for big shows at the venue in the coming months.

A military tour – riding on tanks in Stupino (Moscow region)

Russian Military is one of the largest military forces in the world formed in 1992. With my Military Tour experience what it likes to be in the Russian military, shooting guns, ride the Tank T-34 and various models of German tanks from the Second World War, as well as armored personnel carriers and vehicles. You will also shoot from the AK-47 and another combat weapon.

The tour will begin with your private tour guide Moscow in a Soviet army van accompanied with some tasty snacks and tea for a tasty start. Upon arriving, you will have to put on the army safety clothing and climb the Russian armored vehicles. The tour will take you on the noisy, smoky tank, driving through mud roads. All participants will get the chance to drive the tank which is coordinated by the Russian military.
