G Flip Slid Into Steph Claire Smith’s DMs W/ A Request To Star In Her Music Vid

g flip

Natasha Harding

steph claire smith house tour

In case you havenā€™t heard, Aussie music talent G Flip (full name: Georgia Flipo ) and drop-dead gorgeous Keep It Cleaner founder, Steph Claire Smith , are pretty good mates tyvm.

Their #goals friendship first started when low-key fangirl G Flip ā€“ who just sold out her Aus tour and secured a place at Groovinā€™ The Moo ā€“ slung Steph a mention in the intro of her brand-spankinā€™ new song ā€˜ Drink Too Much ā€˜.

Then Georgia slid into Stephā€™s DMs and, since then, the duo has even teamed up to create Georgiaā€™s new kickass music video, out today:

Here, PEDESTRIAN.TV talks to G Flip about her new toon, an unlikely friendship and banginā€™ music video.

P.TV: What inspired ā€˜Drink Too Muchā€™?Ā

G: A few years ago, I used to go out quite a bit. At the time, Iā€™d been recently dumped, I was lonely and I was young and dumb. I was drinking and partying a lot to get over a break up that smashed my heart.

I wrote ā€˜Drink Too Muchā€™ after a big night out. I came home close to lunchtime the next day (hence the lyric ā€˜I wanna be out til lunchā€™) and I had a few hours to kill before a family event. I started writing the song on bass and piano and recorded it rough on my voice memos.

P.TV: Was there anything you had to overcome to write and release the song?Ā

G: My songs are like an open diary, I just write how I feel and whatā€™s on my mind at the time without overthinking anything. I also write my lyrics the same way I would talk in everyday life.

Iā€™m a real perfectionist when it comes to my music so I really wasnā€™t in a rush to get the track out even though it was written a few years ago and I had my crappy bedroom demo sitting with me, I would never want to release anything until it was the best version of itself.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BukNY1Gn6bh/

P.TV: Why did you choose to mention Steph Claire Smith at the beginning of the song? What is it about Steph?

G: What isnā€™t it about Steph?! Have you seen her!? Nah, but seriously, I would see her around Chapel Street all the time when I wrote it. I was working as a DJ on Chaps at night and at a drum shop there by day. On my lunch break, Iā€™d always walk past her and I was like, should I write a song about this?!

P.TV: How did Steph wind up featuring inĀ the musicĀ video?Ā

G: I slid into her DMā€™s on Insta. Literally didnā€™t think Iā€™d get a reply. First I wanted to show her the song, so I let her hear it before it was released and then I told her about this film clip idea I had. The reply from her was ā€˜Hey legend ā€“ love the song! Itā€™s epic! Would love to chat more about itā€™. I read her reply and f@#!ing lost my sh!t.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BuANokEnnt5/

P.TV: If you could give your younger self any advice about this song and video, what would it be and why?

G: The advice I would give myself is: drinking and partying to get over a break up doesnā€™t really work. Focusing on goals and improving yourself is the way to go. I was a loose unit for like two years before I got my shit together and realised that.

P.TV: How did you come up with the idea of how your music video would look?

G: I remember when I was making my original bedroom demo of ā€˜Drink Too Muchā€™ a few years ago I was sitting there just thinking, ā€˜I have to get Steph in this film clip if I ever release this songā€™. I also thought it would be entertaining to see her dressed like me as a massive tomboy.

With that being the OG concept I then wrote a little storyline a few months ago, that Steph and myself were neighbours and that some of my boxes (with my drums and clothes in them) got delivered to her instead of me. I presented this concept to my team and Steph and we made it happen.

To hear more from G Flip and Steph Claire Smith, grab your tix to PEDESTRIAN.TVā€™s Selfish Weekend presented by the House of Angostura Ā thisĀ  March Ā 16 and 17th atĀ  Sydney ā€˜sĀ  La Porte Space, where both boss lasses will be having their own up-close-and-personal sessions.

50 Questions with Steph Claire Smith

ā€œOne thing I get complimented on when people meet me is that Iā€™m exactly what they expected…ā€ ā€“ Stephanie Miller

There is no underestimating Stephanie Miller (neĆ© Steph Claire Smith) ā€“ and those that try only seem to provide fuel on the fire for her drive to succeed. Successful swimwear model, an Instagram account with 1.6 million followers, and the co-founder of two globally recognised lifestyle brands: Keep It Cleaner and Soda shades ā€“ Stephā€™s undoubtedly an interminable force. But despite her continual evolution, she remains loyal, open, honest, laidback and grounded ā€“ hallmark qualities that keep her followers coming back for more.

With Steph recently in Sydney for the launch of Bondi Sandsā€™ Aero Ultra Dark launch ā€“ a brand in which she has long been the face of ā€“ we managed to snatch her away for a quick chat in between ambassador duties. Here, she gives us the lowdown on everything thatā€™s going on in her life: from her recent wedding to husband Josh Miller, career highlights, and why sheā€™s afraid of the ocean [yes, you heard that correctly].

steph claire smith house tour

1. Age? 26 2. Height? 176cm 3. Best beauty product of all time? Iā€™m going to go with the Bondi Sands Body Moisturiser as my favourite product. Itā€™s just the best moisturiser Iā€™ve ever come across… 4. Five beauty products you canā€™t live without? An eyebrow gel, a lip balm ā€“ because my lips are always dry, moisturiser, sunscreen, and mascara 5. Hair ā€œdoneā€ or messy? Messy more often than not. Even when I do it, I try and make it messy because I like that messy-done look 6. Favourite fragrance? I have two and theyā€™re on complete opposite spectrums when it comes to price. One is the Maison Francis Kurkdjian from Mecca and the other one is still one of my favourites and is the Britney Spears Fantasy . Iā€™ve been wearing it since I was 12! 7. Favourite item of clothing? My activewear 8. Favourite fashion brand? Soda ! 9. Gym or exercising outdoors? Gym 10. Snow or sun? Sun, always sun

steph claire smith house tour

11. Favourite food to indulge in? Chocolate or cheese. Itā€™s very even my love for them both 12. First thing you pick from the mini-bar? Usually a chocolate bar or a Coke Zero. Iā€™m a sucker for a Coke Zero 13. Favourite hobby? Watching movies 14. A strange fact about you that followers might not know? I like to eat the ends of chicken bones… and I always have. When I was younger and was getting braces, they were going through the foods I couldnā€™t eat and one of the things they said was, ā€œAlso, you canā€™t chew on chicken bonesā€ and I started crying. My mum can attest to that! 15. Biggest fear? The ocean, which is one Iā€™m working on because Iā€™m near it a lot. Iā€™m not really comfortable with waves or deep ocean water. I think itā€™s because I grew up going to the river and not going to the beach so much, so the ocean is so unknown to me. But the river water, which my friends are terrified to get in because itā€™s brown, for me ā€“ I dive straight in and have no cares in the world. I guess itā€™s because of what I grew up with 16. Instagram or YouTube? Instagram 17. Thoughts on TikTok? Itā€™s fun! Iā€™m still trying to work it out, but Iā€™m having a lot of fun. Iā€™ve found that I do have to be in the mood for it though. If I want to create something, I have to be in the mood ā€“ you can never force a TikTok 18. Iphone or camera? iPhone probably, just for ease. I find that because my Instagram page doesnā€™t have to be too curated, I like the more real and raw stuff that I capture on my iPhone over the camera 19. Lightroom or VSCO for editing? I donā€™t edit using either of those. For filters, I use Colourtone by Bonnie Cee ā€“ Iā€™ve been using that for filters ever since she brought it out 20. Whatā€™s your favourite filter on Colourtone? I make up my own. I pick one and then play around with all the different lighting and then save them ā€“ I then always go back to the ones Iā€™ve saved

steph claire smith house tour

21. Favourite way to edit pics? Lots of light and no retouching ā€“ I like keeping it really fresh 22. Favourite photographers to work with and why? I love Josie Clough from Itā€™s Now Cool . Sheā€™s a good mate of mine as well, so we always have a ball. Sheā€™s just got an eye for getting an amazing shot. I also like working with Ren Pidgeon . We use him all the time for KIC [ Keep It Cleaner ] shoots because heā€™s just a joy to be around and heā€™s a really talented photographer 23. Model, influencing, or brand founding? Brand founding for sure. Iā€™ve loved being a model and obviously influencing has been super fun working with different brands, but I think owning my own brand and being able to watch something like that grow is super rewarding. Especially with something like KIC where so much comes back to us and itā€™s just the most rewarding thing Iā€™ve ever done ā€“ absolutely brand founding for sure 24. Will we see you launching more brands? No, no, no ā€“ Iā€™ll definitely stick to KIK and Soda ! Everything outside of that is coming more to a minimum because Iā€™m just so keen to spend all my time on my babies. I have big plans and great ambitions for both brands so you wonā€™t see any more, no! 25. So youā€™re not going to get into more clothing design? I get to dabble in it sometimes if I get to collab with someone and I know a few friends are doing it and Iā€™m so excited to support them, but I have no interest in doing a clothing brand 26. How did you first get your start in Instablogging? I first thought it was a filter app and I would just get those images and put them on Facebook. But once I worked out that it was a profile, it was really just so friends and family could keep in touch and see what I was getting up to in the modelling world. And then my following just started gradually growing. Itā€™s been a very steady growth. Whilst itā€™s a huge number now ā€“ itā€™s been a steady growth over the last seven years. Iā€™ve just been going along for the ride 27. What’s your top Instagram tip? Be yourself. Donā€™t try and make your account or feed look like anybody elseā€™s. If thereā€™s something out there that already exists, why would someone follow you? Youā€™ve got to find your difference and whatā€™s unique to you ā€“ and I think an Instagram account always comes across as authentic when it is showing your authentic self 28. How much time do you put into a normal picture? Not much. I used to, but now Iā€™ll just take a couple of snaps and pick the best one out of that. The filter thing is really quick, and then I just pop it right up. Iā€™m not really too structured with the way I post ā€“ I like to just post in the moment. Some days I wonā€™t post at all and some days Iā€™ll post three photos. Very spontaneous! 29. Career highlight? For me, when Laura [Hemshaw] and I relaunched KIC on our own and had our own team and relaunched the app by ourselves ā€“ that is definitely one of the biggest achievements Iā€™ve ever had in my career. Without a doubt, nothing beats that! 30. Career lowlight? Probably when I was full-time modelling back in the day and I was living in New York and it wasnā€™t going the way I had always dreamed of and thought it was going to go. I wasnā€™t with an agency over there that believed in me or wanted me to be me ā€“ and that was a real lowlight. Although, I learnt a lot and it has actually turned out to be the best thing that ever happened because I learnt so much about myself and was able to turn it around ā€“ but at that point, it was a big low. I was 20 when I was living there and if it wasnā€™t for the contracts I had going on in Australia that brought me back every now and then, there is no way I could have stayed there and given it a real crack. It was a low point, but I donā€™t regret it

steph claire smith house tour

31. Best campaign youā€™ve ever worked on? Thatā€™s a really hard one ā€“ thereā€™s so many! I really loved my latest Adidas campaign that just came out, we went and shot it in LA and I felt very spoilt and very special. Iā€™m just really lucky because all the brands Iā€™ve aligned myself with and have stayed loyal to ā€“ half the reason is because I have so much fun on set creating each of their campaigns. Every single Bondi Sands campaign I have fun on, every single Bras n Things campaign I feel amazing on setā€¦ there isnā€™t really a stand-out particular one, theyā€™ve all been fun 32. Worst thing that has happened to you on a photoshoot? I had a really uncomfortable situation when I was younger on a photoshoot where the owner made me twirl so he could check out my body to know what clothing to put me in ā€“ and it felt very uncomfortable. Iā€™ve never worked with them again obviously, but thatā€™s probably the worst thing that has happened to me on a shoot. Other than that Iā€™ve been really lucky, Iā€™ve heard some horror stories of working with horrible people. Iā€™ve had blunt photographers and rude stylists before without a doubt, but [twirling for the owner] was definitely the most uncomfortable Iā€™ve ever been on a set 33. The best gift youā€™ve ever received as an influencer? Probably the gift of getting to travel. The trips Iā€™ve been able to take overseas with friends or with Josh have been priceless ā€“ so thatā€™s definitely my absolute favourite thing that comes with the job 34. Last thing you googled? We just did a new KIK post on the bushfires and I was writing some stuff in the description, so it was probably Wildlife Victoriaā€™s website. That was probably my last Google search to be truly honest 35. Favourite film? I have a few, but probably ā€˜I love you manā€™. Itā€™s hilarious ā€“ itā€™s my favourite 36. Favourite book? Iā€™m going to be really corny and say the ā€˜Twilightā€™ series 37. Favourite travel destination? One of the most magical places Iā€™ve ever been to, and Iā€™ve been lucky enough to go there twice, is the Maldives 38. Most Instagram-worthy spot? Any Australian beach 39. Top three essentials to pack when traveling? My runners so I can do a workout, my sunscreen, and my Keep Cup. I take it everywhere I go, Iā€™ve been in a really good habit of doing it, I just keep it in my handbag. Last year I reckon I only used two takeaway coffee cups and I plan to make it zero this year ā€“ so thatā€™s one thing I donā€™t travel without! 40. Going out clubbing or quiet dinner with friends? Quiet dinner with friends

steph claire smith house tour

41. Best moment from the wedding? Thereā€™s so many! The ceremony was amazing, donā€™t get me wrong, but I was up until 4am dancing the night away with the majority of our guests. I honestly think that after dinner and after everyoneā€™s beautiful speeches, getting to dance the night away with everyone and not having a time or noise curfew was the best part of the night 42. Siblings? Iā€™ve got an older brother 43. What city are you currently living in? Melbourne 44. Celebrity/influencer crush? Iā€™ve always had a thing for Zac Efron ā€“ I think from ā€˜High School Musicalā€™ days for sure… 45. Pets? Yes, Ari Golddog is like my son ā€“ heā€™s human 46. What is your best asset? I think my dimples when I smile 47. Biggest misconception about you? Thatā€™s a hard one because I try and keep it really real over social media and I think I show so much of my own personality. One thing I get complimented on when people meet me is that Iā€™m exactly what they expected 48. Top five Instagram accounts to follow? @therealjadetunchy , @keepitcleaner , @celestebarber … I really like following funny accounts, so I really like @theinspiredunemployed . I also love following my friend @samevanslife ā€“ he makes the most amazing content. Even before I was friends with him, I really enjoyed his content ā€“ seeing what he was up to and doing all his amazing things 49. Favourite quote you live by? A few, but Iā€™ll go for the Dr Seuss one: ā€œBe who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mindā€ 50. Top career tip? Only launch something youā€™re super passionate about because there is going to be a lot of tough times ahead and a lot of hurdles ā€“ so unless youā€™re really passionate about what youā€™re doing, those hurdles might stop you in your tracks.

Fitness influencer Steph Claire Smith sells her Brighton East home

Emily Holgate

Model and influencer Steph Claire Smith has sold her Brighton East house.

Fitness influencer Steph Claire Smith and husband Josh Millerā€™s Brighton East home has gained almost $1m in three years.

The social media power couple, who combined have more than 1.6m Instagram followers, purchased the 1A Hopkins St pad in 2019 for $2.475m, according to CoreLogic records.

Since then, the pair welcomed their first child together ā€” now one-year-old son, Harvey ā€” and put the four-bedroom house on the market in May.

The Brighton East home features a resort-style swimming pool and alfresco dining area.

The Instagram influencerā€™s home sold for more than $3m in June.

While the Keep It Cleaner app and podcast founder declined to comment on the sale, she told her 1.5m Instagram followers last week she had fielded a number of questions about their decision to move, which she explained ā€œshe wanted to keep privateā€.

But the Melbourne-based influencer did reveal she and Mr Miller had ā€œfound their dream homeā€ and were currently staying at her parentsā€™ house until they moved.

The 692sq m property went under the hammer in June, when it sold for a huge $3.455m after a lengthy hour-long auction.

Gary Peer Caulfield North director Leon Gouzenfiter would not comment on the sale price but said it sold ā€œcomfortably a couple of hundred thousand (dollars) above reserveā€.

ā€œFour or five families competed and it was purchased by a local family that was very familiar with the area,ā€ Mr Gouzenfiter said.

ā€œThey were happy to buy something that was really nice and not have to go through a build process, especially with the uncertainty of building prices.ā€

And huge walk-in wardrobe.

The recently-sold Brighton East digs was only built four years ago, originally as a display home, and boasts a number of stylish features ā€” including a Caesarstone benchtop kitchen with a butlerā€™s pantry, a resort-style pool and undercover alfresco dining space.

Three bedrooms, one with an ensuite, are found upstairs, while the main bedroom lies on the ground floor, featuring a glamorous ensuite and spacious walk-in wardrobe.

ā€œItā€™s a very bright home with lots of glass, and it had really beautiful landscaping,ā€ Mr Gouzenfiter added.

ā€œThe landscaping has now matured with established trees which makes it all very private ā€¦ and the home itself was architect designed so it was done really well.ā€

Steph Claire Smith went for a walk. Then she spotted a white van following her.

Recently, our very own Mia Freedman wrote a viral article, titled: 'Why can't we go for a f-ing run?'

The response was overwhelming. And it resonated with so many  women around Australia for a very good reason: At one point or another, we've all  felt unsafe going for a run . Taking a walk in the park . Making our way home from work or  coming home from a night out .

We all have a story where we've felt unsafe. Like something could go very wrong.

That moment when we have to share our location with friends. Call someone. Run without music in our ears. Look over our shoulder. Be hyper-vigilant.

As Mia wrote:

"We cannot be more vigilant. It's not possible. What we need now is the help of men. We need them to take up this cause as their own, to help us with the load. We need them to know how it feels to hear footsteps behind you or have your cab driver take a wrong turn and immediately wonder, 'Is this it? Is it my turn now?'

If men could feel our fear, they could never live with it. Day in, day out.

They would refuse to.

We don't have the choice."

Watch: If a man lived as a woman for a day. Post continues below.

So when KIC co-founder Steph Claire Smith recently spoke about  this TikTok video ā€” 'I'm a woman who likes to run...' ā€” and shared her own experience of feeling unsafe while walking, her story seemed all too familiar.

Speaking with co-founder Lauren Henshaw on their podcast, KICPOD , the 30-year-old said: "There was one point for me, where I was walking daily and I had this route that I absolutely loved to go on at my old place where I used to live."

"There was one day that changed everything for me because I hadn't thought about changing up routes and stuff. And I often walked in the daytime and I lived near busy roads ā€” so I just didn't think about it, really. I think I was just a bit naĆÆve to it."

As Steph went on the share, the scariest part about this was that she was on the main road when it happened ā€” which made her realise that it doesn't just happen on quiet streets.

"I was walking along the main road, and this van drastically slowed down in the lane ā€” and it was a four-lane main road," she told Laura. "I can remember that van like it was yesterday ā€” this white, old wagon with curtains in the windows. It was super creepy."

"Anyway, this guy had his windows down, and he stared me down as he passed me. This road was meant to be going, like, 70km per hour and he'd slowed right down to about 40km and the person behind him tooted him."

"In that moment ā€” and this is something I always do when I feel unsafe ā€” I either instantly call Josh and just have him on the phone or I have triple zero dialled and ready on my phone to call if I need to. On this particular day, I called Josh, and I was like 'Can you stay on the phone? There's something weird happening.'"

"I'm glad I called him because this van then did a U-turn ā€” again, this is a four-lane main road and it was actually illegal what he was doing. He then drove down the street again, did another U-turn and then came and past me again, slowed right down and stared right at me as he did it."

"Then I was like, 'Okay Josh, I'd really like you to come and be with me', because my route then to get home was to go down the side street. The guy did it a number of times  ā€” three or four times ā€” and by this point, I'm crying and not wanting to make eye contact with him and like s**t scared," she shared.

"Instead of doing a U-turn, the one time it's not available, he went down a different side street, to then pop back out and merge back onto the main road. When he did that, I ran down the side street, Josh pulled up and I got in the car. Josh walked to the main road to keep an eye out. He saw him and what we watched was the guy then looking for me and slowing down at every side street, looking down."

"Luckily, I was already in Josh's car, so he didn't see me ā€” but Josh saw him and got his number plate. We went straight to the police and told them what had happened."

After her experience, Steph said it's completely changed the way she thinks about walking or running by herself.

"From that point, I have not walked the same route ever again and no matter where I've lived I've changed it up all the time and tried to be a bit more spontaneous about it ā€” just different. And I am constantly either calling Josh when I'm feeling like that or having triple zero ready on my phone. And it's just s**t."

A snippet of Steph and Laura's conversation was shared on Instagram, and the post garnered thousands upon thousands of likes and comments, with women around the world sharing their own personal experiences of feeling unsafe when going for a run or a walk.

One woman wrote, "This happened to me recently, just after the Ballarat murder incident. A ute with two men in it passed me three times, back and forth on a very quiet road, each time slowing down and staring at me. I was petrified and havenā€™t been on a road run since."

"I had it happen too many times to count, now I nearly exclusively only run with my dog (a big black bull arab, the most submissive dog I've ever met, but thankfully, not obvious unless you have a small dog with you lol). I also saved up and got a smartwatch with a sim card that activates an SOS text with my location details to my emergency contacts."

The stories are endless ā€” but one thing rings very clear: In 2024, women do not feel safe .

  • Stand with your feet in a wide stance and your toes pointing outwards at a 45-degree angle. As with the squats, keep your chest up, shoulders down, back straight and core engaged throughout this exercise.
  • Push your hips back and bend your knees until your thighs are parallel with the ground, or as low as your flexibility allows.
  • From here, instead of returning to standing, perform small pulses up and down without fully straightening your legs.

4. Alternating forward lunges

Kic app co-founder Steph Claire Smith performing a lunge

  • Stand upright with your feet hip-distance apart.
  • Keeping your torso upright, step forward with your right foot, landing on the heel then rolling onto the ball of the foot.
  • Lower your body towards the ground by bending both knees until your right thigh is parallel with the ground and your left knee is hovering just above the floor. Your right knee should be directly above your right ankle.
  • Push through your right heel to return to the starting position, then repeat with the other leg.

5. Hip thrusts

Kic app co-founder and personal trainer Steph Claire Smith demonstrating a hip thrust

  • Lie on your back with your knees bent and your feet planted on the ground, about hip-width apart. Your heels should be below your knees.
  • Engage your core then press through your heels to drive your hips upwards until your thighs and torso form a straight line.
  • Hold this top position for a second, then slowly lower your hips back to the ground and repeat.

6. Bicycle crunches

Kic app co-founder and personal trainer Steph Claire Smith demonstrating bicycle crunches

  • Lie on your back and place your fingertips on either side of your head with your elbows flared outwards.
  • Lift both legs off the ground and bring your knees towards your chest until your thighs are upright. Your knees should form a 90-degree angle.
  • Without letting it touch the ground, extend your right leg in front of you. As you do this, twist to bring your right elbow to touch your left knee.
  • Bring your right knee back to 90-degree and, at the same time, extend your left leg and twist to touch your left elbow to your right knee. Continue this for 45 seconds.

Kic app co-founder and personal trainer Steph Claire Smith demonstrating a high plank

  • Assume a plank position, with your weight spread between your toes and hands, your hands directly below your shoulders, and your body forming a straight line from your head to your heels.
  • Engage your core muscles to maintain a stable spine and prevent your hips from dropping. Hold this position for 45 seconds. If this feels too difficult, you can lower your knees to the ground.

8. Shoulder taps

Kic app co-founder and personal trainer Steph Claire Smith demonstrating shoulder taps

  • Start in a plank position. Your weight should be spread evenly between your hands and your toes, your hands should be directly beneath your shoulders, and your body should form a straight line from your head to your heels.
  • Engage your core to maintain this position and stop your hips from dropping.
  • Lift your right hand off the ground and tap your left shoulder.
  • Return to the high plank position, then repeat on the other side.

9. Donkey kicks

Kic app co-founder and personal trainer Steph Claire Smith demonstrating donkey kicks

Sets: 2 Repetitions: 45 seconds (on each leg) Rest: 15 seconds

  • Start on all fours, with your hands directly beneath your shoulders and your knees directly below your hips. Engage your core muscles to stabilize your spine and maintain a straight line from your head to your tailbone.
  • Keeping your right leg bent at a 90-degree angle, lift your right foot towards the sky until your right thigh is parallel with the floor and the sole of your foot is facing the ceiling.
  • Squeeze your glutes (backside muscles) at the top of the movement, then slowly lower your leg back down. Don't let your right knee touch the floor before starting the next repetition by pushing your right foot back towards the ceiling.
  • Repeat this for 45 seconds, rest for 15 seconds, then do another 45 seconds with your left leg.

Moscow Metro

The Moscow Metro Tour is included in most guided toursā€™ itineraries. Opened in 1935, under Stalinā€™s regime, the metro was not only meant to solve transport problems, but also was hailed as ā€œa peopleā€™s palaceā€. Every station you will see during your Moscow metro tour looks like a palace room. There are bright paintings, mosaics, stained glass, bronze statuesā€¦ Our Moscow metro tour includes the most impressive stations best architects and designers worked at - Ploshchad Revolutsii, Mayakovskaya, Komsomolskaya, Kievskaya, Novoslobodskaya and some others.

What is the kremlin in russia?

The guide will not only help you navigate the metro, but will also provide you with fascinating background tales for the images you see and a history of each station.

And there some stories to be told during the Moscow metro tour! The deepest station - Park Pobedy - is 84 metres under the ground with the world longest escalator of 140 meters. Parts of the so-called Metro-2, a secret strategic system of underground tunnels, was used for its construction.

During the Second World War the metro itself became a strategic asset: it was turned into the city's biggest bomb-shelter and one of the stations even became a library. 217 children were born here in 1941-1942! The metro is the most effective means of transport in the capital.

There are almost 200 stations 196 at the moment and trains run every 90 seconds! The guide of your Moscow metro tour can explain to you how to buy tickets and find your way if you plan to get around by yourself.

Moscow metro tour: architectural styles of the subway.

steph claire smith house tour

Duration: 2 hours

Categories: Culture & History, Sightseeing

This metro tour of Russiaā€™s capital and most populous city, Moscow, is your chance to get a unique insight into the beautiful and impressive architecture of the city's underground stations. Admire their marble walls and high ceilings representing Stalin's desire for glory after World War 2, and see first-hand how the interiors change with the rise of new political eras. Your guide will lead you through the complex network, which is one of the most heavily used rapid transit systems worldwide, with over two billion travelers in 2011.

Opened in 1935, Moscowā€™s underground system, now 190 miles (305 km) long with 185 stations, is today one the largest and most heavily used rapid transit systems in the world. On this Moscow metro tour, discover the impressive architecture of Moscowā€™s underground stations and learn how they reflect the Soviet era.

Getting around by metro, your local guide will take you through parts of Moscowā€™s infamous history. Stop at stations built during the time of the USSR (Soviet Union) that are praised as one of the most extravagant architectural projects from Stalinā€™s time. After World War 2, he was keen on establishing Stalinist architecture to represent his rising regime and a recognized empire. Learn how when his successor started the de-Stalinization of the former Soviet Union in 1953, the extravagancy of the architecture was toned down.

Discover how the unique character of each station reflected several different eras. While stations like Kievskaya and Slavyansky Bulvar have pompous halls and high stucco ceilings brimming with extravagant decorations, those built later, like Volzhskaya, are lightly adorned with sparse furnishings. Architect Alexey Dushkin and painter Alexander Deyneka were just two of the many artists who made these magnificent landmarks possible.

Revel in Moscow's glory days, as well as the years of scarcity, on this fascinating Moscow metro experience. Conclude your tour at one of the central stations in Moscow. If you're lucky, you may even find the secret entrance to the unconfirmed Metro-2, a parallel underground system used by the government -- a mystery which has neither been denied nor confirmed today.

Culture Shock Rating

We have a wide range of tours designed to give you an insight into the destination you're travelling in and there is something for everybody. The culture shock ratings considers the destination visited, transport used, activities undertaken and that "Wow, I'm really not at home now!" factor. While generalisations are always tricky, a summary of our gradings is as follows…

This is the least confronting of our tour range. Transport used on the trip is either private or a very comfortable public option, the activities included are usually iconic sites and locations that are not all too confronting.

The tour can include a mix of private and public transport providing a level of comfort that is slightly below what you would experience at home. Sites visited are usually iconic sites, tours can also include market visits, visits to communities etc that provide the traveller with a fantastic insight into destination.

Expect to rough it for parts of this tour, whether it's a packed public bus where you are forced to stand, a visit to a local market, a local community, you are sure to have an experience that is very different from what you're used to at home.

The comforts of your home town and the environment you are used to are more of a rarity. Expect some challenging transport options, visits to local sites and areas that don't resemble anything at home.

You're out there in the global community! You are likely to be exposed to the elements, travel in whatever means of transport is available and basically take it as it comes, whatever comes! It can be tough.

Physical Rating

Our physical rating gives you an idea of how much huffing and puffing you can expect on the tour. While generalisations are always tricky, a summary of our gradings is as follows…

These tours have very limited physical activity. Usually climbing in and out of the transport provided, walking through sites, markets etc included in the itinerary.

These tours have a bit of physical activity but nothing that should challenge you too much. This could be climbing on and off public transport through to a walk through the destination you're travelling in, they can include walking only tours or a combination of walking and transport.

These tours involve a bit of physical activity from walking up and down hills in the destination you're travelling in or the surrounding areas. Climbing on and off local transport or riding a bike up to 30 kms along predominantly flat terrain or jumping in a kayak for a gentle paddle on flat water.

These Tours will provide you with some solid physical activity. Whether its bike riding, walking, trekking, kayaking or riding on public transport you will need to have a good level of fitness to enjoy this tour.

Be prepared for some serious physical activity. These tours are our most challenging and involve some serious walking, hiking or bike riding. Can involve step climbs by foot or pedal and some challenging public transport options in the destination you are travelling.

Luxury Rating

Some trips are like a stroll on the beach, while others have you trekking alpine passes. Some of you thrive on camping out on the savannah, while others may prefer a hot shower and a comfortable bed in a lodge. Follow the grading systems below to find the right trip for you.

To help you choose the trip that's right for you, we've broken all of our trips down into four service levels. Measuring the comfort level of the accommodation and transport. So whether you're travelling on a budget and want to save money by using public transport, or prefer upgraded accommodation and are happy to pay a little more, then we have a level for you.
