This Addictive Cheap Flights Newsletter Is the Best Way to Find Flight Deals

Formerly known as scott’s cheap flights, going is one of the best ways to find cheap international and domestic flight deals..

Whether you’re stressed about skyrocketing airfares or you’re the kind of person who spends hours poking around Google Flights for fun to find flight deals to inspire your next getaway abroad, you need to subscribe to Going —formerly known as Scott’s Cheap Flights—right now.

This newsletter founded by former journalist Scott Keyes in 2015 delivers cheap international and domestic flight deals directly into your inbox as they are rolled out by airlines. (If you’re already one of the newsletter’s 2 million subscribers, congrats—you’ve probably saved hundreds if not thousands of dollars by now.)

Members typically save up to 90 percent on international flights. Here are a few examples of the bargains Going uncovered on round-trip flights last year:

  • Los Angeles to Peru, August–November 2022 — $281 (typically $700+)
  • San Francisco to Tahiti, August 2022–January 2023 — $533 (typically $1,000+)
  • NYC to Costa Rica, dates throughout 2022 — $190 (typically $600+)

In each email, Keyes and his team provide all the information you’ll need to score the deals they uncover, including departure cities, travel dates, airlines, how much the flights typically cost, and even a direct link to find the deal in Google Flights or Momondo (both are useful if time-consuming flight search tools on their own).

It all started back in 2013 when Keyes uncovered a flight to Milan for just $130. Once he returned home, he started emailing his friends and family the airfare deals he continued to uncover. Eventually, he decided to turn his obsession with finding cheap flights into a newsletter. (Scott’s Cheap Flights officially changed its name to Going in January 2023.) Because Going doesn’t receive commissions from booking sites, you’ll also know that deals are actually a good value and not just a way for the company to make money.

If you’re truly addicted, you can also choose to pay more for Premium or Elite memberships that deliver about four times as many deals as the free version. Both of the top tiers of membership include a 14-day free trial so you can test it out before you commit to the annual fee.

Here’s how the three tiers of membership work and how much they cost:

Sign up now: Free, going.com

You’ll get a sampling of international economy-class deals for up to five airports delivered each month. In 2021, Going sent 591 deals to its Limited members.

Sign up now: $49 per year, going.com

You’ll get all international and domestic economy-class deals from up to 10 airports, plus weekend getaway deals and mistake fares from your home airport. (A mistake—or error—fare is when an airline accidentally lists the wrong price for a ticket on its website.) In 2021, Going sent 2,249 deals to its Premium members.

Sign up now: $199 per year, going.com

Elite membership gives you all the perks of Premium membership but for first-, business-, or premium economy–class deals from an unlimited number of airports in the United States. You’ll also be sent mistake fares from any U.S. airport. In a six month period in 2022, Going sent 2,571 deals to its Elite members.

When you sign up, your subscription is tailored to your home airport so that you’re only getting deals that apply to you. Going currently serves travelers departing from airports in the United States, including the 50 states, St. Thomas, Guam, and Puerto Rico.

Lena, our guide in Moscow was excellent. She was very knowledgable and could answer any question we had for her. We liked that she could pick up on our interests and take us places we might not have thought of to go. When we realized that one of the places we had chosen to see would probably not be that interesting to us, she was able to arrange entry to the Diamond Fund and the Armoury for us. Riding the Metro with Lena was a real adventure and a lot of fun. In Saint Petersburg we found Anna well versed in the history of the Tsars and in the Hermitage collection. Arkady in Veliky Novgorod was a very good guide and answered all of our questions with ease. Novgorod was perhaps a long way to go for a day trip, but we did enjoy it. Vasily was a great driver to have and kept us safe with good humour and skill. We enjoyed ourselves so much, my daughter says she is already planning to return. We would both have no hesistation to recommend ExpresstoRussia to anyone we know.

Just wanted to let you know that My grandson Bruno and I couldn´t have been more pleased with our week in Moscow (6/15 - 6/21). We were absolutely enchanted with the whole experience, including getting lost a couple of times in the Metro during our free time. Although both our guides (both Eleanas) were excellent, I would particularly commend the first one (she took us to the Tatiakov, the KGB tour, and to that beautiful cemetery where so many great Russian artists, authors, composers, musicians, militarists, and politicians are buried). Her knowledge is encyclopedic; and her understanding of today´s Russia as a product of its past was, for us, truly enlightening. I will be taking another tour in Russia, with my wife, within the next two or three years. I will be in touch with you when the time comes. Meanwhile, I will refer you to other potential visitors to Russia as I meet them.

Please remember that of all these tours are private and can be adjusted to your taste. You can add, replace or skip some sights; you can add more days to the package or cut the tour short. Our specialists will be glad to help you create the tour of your dreams!

Moscow, a City Like No Other

Moscow is Russia’s largest city with a population of between 12 and 13 million. It is also Europe’s largest city and when you visit Moscow, you can feel it. The layout and architecture of the city is eclectic, ranging from crooked, ancient streets and alleyways to wide, bustling boulevards, from medieval churches to Stalin skyscrapers and to modern, glass buildings towering over everything and of course in the center of it all is the Kremlin and the magnificent Red Square. Moscow is also home to a fantastic, efficient and very beautiful metro system – each station having its own special design. In fact, Express to Russia’s Moscow metro tours and excursions are some of our most popular attractions that we offer. On our Moscow tours, you will see this and more.

Moscow Kremlin in the times of Ivan III

Moscow Tours centering on Russian History

Moscow has a long and interesting history and has been the capital of Russia in many of its different iterations – capital of the Grand Duchy of Moscow , the Russian Empire and of course the Soviet Union (who could ever forget the Soviet Union?). Moscow, was founded in the 12th century by Prince Yuri Dolgaruki (Yuri of the long arms – he really did have long arms!). From that time on, it was home to the Russian Tsars until Peter the Great moved the capital to St. Petersburg in 1703. The city has survived invasions and sieges from the Mongols, the Tartars, the Poles, Lithuanians and Napoleon but has always persevered. Our Moscow tours will enlighten you on this great history and give you insights into Muscovites and their unique culture. Our Moscow tours show you what the city is like today but also brings to life the past. Moscow never seems to sleep and is bursting with energy. A Moscow tour with Express to Russia is truly the best way of getting to know Russia’s largest and most vibrant city.

Frequently Asked Questions From Our Travelers

What is the best time to visit moscow.

Any time of year is fine depending on what you plan to do. Summertime is pleasantly warm, ideal for exploring the city and its vibrant atmosphere, but Moscow will be much busier and accommodation is more expensive. Winter can be quite cold but beautiful nonetheless, and this is unproblematic if you intend to spend most of your trip in museums and galleries. There are also various festivals and events organised throughout the year. For more information about the best time to visit, read our guide

How many days are enough in Moscow?

If you plan your itinerary strategically and aren’t averse to a packed schedule, you can cover Moscow’s main sights over a long weekend. Most popular attractions are in the city centre, and the Moscow Metro allows you to cover much ground in a small amount of time. Ensure that your accommodation is fairly central and book tickets in advance, so that you can make the most of your days. For an informative and well-organised day out, check out our Moscow day tours with options to suit all interests.

Do they speak English in Moscow?

As Russia’s capital city, tourists are well accommodated in Moscow. There should be English-speaking staff in restaurants, bars, hotels, shops and attractions in tourist hotspots, and there are also English-speaking tourist police. Transport services have English translations on their maps and English announcements via intercom; alternatively, order taxis from the Yandex Taxi app (Russian Uber), though it’s unlikely that your taxi driver will speak English. If you get stuck and cannot communicate, it’s fine to use Google Translate.

Is it safe to travel to Moscow?

It is no less safe to travel to Moscow than to any European city if you exercise common sense and look after your belongings. As with every city some regions can be more unsavoury than others, but no tourist attractions are located there. The traffic in Moscow is notorious, so exercise caution when crossing roads. Do not take unlicensed taxis; book in advance or take public transport, which is widespread and perfectly safe. If you encounter any problems, look for the special tourist police who can help you. Travel Savings, Deals, And Discounts For Families Just In Time For Summer

Travel Savings, Deals, And Discounts For Families Just In Time For Summer

School breaks and summers during my childhood were packed with enrichment programs, summer camps , day trips to museums or beaches, amusement park visits, and heading up North to spend time with extended family. However, we’re a long way from the ‘90s, and things are incredibly expensive now.

With inflation impacting our daily lives , it’s no surprise that it’s hitting our vacation funds , too. There are several elements to consider when planning group travel that can be costly: the destination, transportation, food, entertainment, etc. It adds up very quickly. The average cost of a stateside vacation for an individual is $1,984. For couples, that average is $3,969. Families of four average $7,936, and a group of six can see upwards of $11,904.

To help you, we rounded up some travel deals, savings, and destination suggestions to help you plan a memorable and affordable summer trip or two, or even a staycation in your city.

Plane, Train, and Transportation Savings

  • Frontier offers a Kids Fly Free program on select domestic routes, an exclusive offer for members of their Discount Den Club. For each adult ticket, children ages 2-14 can fly at no additional cost .
  • Amtrak is a great way to get scenic views while skipping the traffic. It has over 500 destinations across the United States (and Canada). Plus, it offers savings that the whole family can enjoy, making it an affordable option for multigenerational travel. Senior citizens, veterans, members of the military, passengers with disabilities, and college students are all eligible for a fare discount. Infants travel for free, and fares for children ages 2-12 are half-price.
  • Brightline, a Florida-based train service, also offers a family savings program . Similar to Amtrak’s family discount offer, infants (0-24 months) travel for free, and fares for children ages 2-12 are half-price. Families traveling in groups of four or more can see additional savings of 25 percent. ( Note: Brightline only services routes between Miami, Orlando, Ventura, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, and Boca Raton.)
  • Amid the influx of gas prices, rideshare surging, and rental car shortages, there’s a lot of appeal in traveling to walkable cities to cut down on transportation costs in a destination. However, through city and county partnerships, Circuit is an app-based, on-demand electric vehicle shuttle service. In most cities, it’s free to hail a ride. In others, the highest rate is $3 per person. ( Note: Circuit only operates within cities in the following states: California, Florida, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Washington, Texas, and Washington, DC.)

Travel Savings, Deals, And Discounts For Families Just In Time For Summer

Museums, Aquariums, and Area Attractions

  • Entertainment is one of the best parts of any trip, but it’s also one of the most costly elements. Don’t turn up your nose at using Groupon to find attractions. I have scored great deals on comedy shows, wine tastings, cooking classes, and last-minute excursions through the marketplace.
  • Most of your major cities will offer City Passes or something similar, allowing you to explore multiple spots at a discounted flat rate instead of paying per attraction. I’ve done this several times in Orlando, Chicago, Seattle, and San Diego.
  • Although it moves past the summer months, Jacksonville , Fla., hosts Kids Free November every year. Visitors and their families can enjoy free or discounted entry to many of the area’s local attractions. Some of the participating draws are the Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens , the Museum of Science & History , and the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens .
  • The National Park Service facilitates the Every Kid Outdoors program for nature lovers and eager learners in the fourth grade. Eligible children will receive a pass, valid for one year, that grants free admission into any national park (or its partners). The savings are for the entire family. Each fourth grader can bring their family and friends (if they are in the same vehicle) at no additional charge. For families without an eligible elementary student, children 15 and younger can visit any national park at no cost (for entry).
  • If you bank at a credit union, you can purchase state-specific museum, aquarium, and amusement park tickets directly through them at a discounted price. Additionally, membership programs like AARP and AAA offer travel savings.

(Note: Recipients of state-supported subsidy programs may be eligible for free or discounted admission to educational attractions such as museums, art exhibits, zoos, and aquariums. Ask your local facility for details.)

Travel Savings, Deals, And Discounts For Families Just In Time For Summer

Sail into Savings

  • Family cruises can be ideal because they eliminate some of the individual elements associated with traveling, making it a cost-effective option. Plus, they have cool kid’s clubs for parents who want to sneak away for a night out, check out fine dining, or enjoy spa treatments. Adventurous families (think glacier dog sledding, zip-lining, and ATV tours) may enjoy sailing into Alaska on Holland America Line’s Koningsdam ship. With their current anniversary sale , cruises are up to 45% off, and third and fourth guests who book in the same stateroom sail for free. On select itineraries through Hawaii and the Caribbean, children 18 and under sail free when booked as the third or fourth guest in a stateroom.
  • Other cruise lines, such as Norwegian, Star Clippers, and Royal Caribbean, regularly offer a Kids Sail Free promotion for guests 12 and under.

Let’s Go International

  • Another cost-effective travel option for families looking for fun in the sun is to book an all-inclusive vacation. Club Med Resorts have global destinations, each with a Kids Stay Free Package. Children under four are free. Parents will pay 50% for children between 4-11 and receive a 20% discount for each child 11-17.

(Note: The current rate for a passport is $120, which may be a costly expense for larger families. Some may be exempt from the passport fee or qualify for a fee waiver based on the eligibility requirements outlined here .)

Bucket list travel on a budget: Expert tips for airfare, loyalty programs, credit card perks and more

VIDEO: Tips for affordable travel

Many travelers have their sights set on summer getaways , but with everything from baggage fees to fuel costs impacting the price of a ticket, "Good Morning America" is asking travel experts to share tips for booking bucket list destinations on a budget and finding savings along the way.

Travel expert Nicky Kelvin, senior director of content for The Points Guy, offered his tips for affordable travel techniques.

travel deals newsletter

Where to find the best flight deals

travel deals newsletter

Kelvin encourages travelers to utilize Google Flights and other free price-tracking tools to compare fare prices and snag the best deal.

He also suggests using both the calendar and map features within Google Flights to see which airports, dates and destinations how the lowest fare.

From the Google Flights homepage on a computer, click "explore destinations" and select a departure city without adding a destination. Then zoom out on the map to see the best prices for destinations all over the world.

Get the most out of free travel loyalty programs

Travelers should be earning points for anything and everything that they are buying or booking from airline and hotels to car rentals, Kelvin said.

In addition to the points that can can help travelers earn free flights and hotel stays, Kelvin said to look for extra perks just for joining.

Hyatt rewards, for example, offers all guests free breakfast.

For Thrifty Car Rental and Dollar Car Rental, he said you can add your spouse or domestic partner as an additional driver for free.

Loyalty programs are great for airlines too. JetBlue, for example, allows enrolled customers -- even if they don't have enough points for a flight -- to use points for discounts. Plus, with any airline, as you accumulate points to earn status, you can get free seating upgrades.

Travel credit cards with cash back perks

Along with earning points, travel credit cards give you protection for your trip like insurance to help with lost or damaged baggage and trip cancellation protection

As for credit cards, The Points Guy team suggests the Capital One Venture Rewards credit card as an all-around pick -- you get 75,000 miles after meeting your minimum spend in the first three months. Which Kelvin said is a value of over $1,300.

If you're looking to earn the most miles, he said look to the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card.

"You'll earn the most points on all your purchases with this one," he said.

Finally, if you want a credit card with no fee, Kelvin suggested the Bilt Mastercard, which he said is particularly great for renters because you can earn points on what's likely someone's biggest expense.

Save money on international phone plans for summer trips

If someone's trip is taking them out of the country, using a cell phone internationally can cost $10 to 15 per day. For a family of four, that's more than $400 for a week.

If your phones support eSIM, Kelvin suggested purchasing a data plan for your destination through an app such as Airalo, Truphone or GigSky.

For example, one of Airalo's global SIM plans costs $9 for one week, which could save a family close to $350 dollars, depending on their existing international coverage.

Summer 2024 travel boom expected: Start planning now with these money-saving tips

by Melanie Hastings

(Nick Papantonis/WPDE)

WASHINGTON (7News) — If you're thinking about a summer vacation, you better hurry.

The best time to book your trip is two to three months in advance, according to Hopper . And the summer of 2024 is predicted to break travel records.

"People are traveling with a vengeance ever since the pandemic ended. The last few months the phones have been ringing off the hook. And everybody wants to travel," said Gwendolyn Kinlaw, an Expedia vacation consultant.

From a family road trip to an all-inclusive resort to a cruise, or a bucket list international destination, there is something for everyone at every price point.

"Very popular are the Caribbean islands, Mexico. Alaska is another top one. Many are looking to book for Hawaii as well," Kinlaw said.

But if you're looking for a deal, try going when it's not so crowded.

"It's more expensive to travel in the summer. I would say the months of July and August are very much more expensive," Kinlaw added.

The average summer airfare is $325 for a domestic trip and $1,000. for international flights, according to Hopper.

Book your flight two to three months in advance for a U.S. trip, or five to six months in advance for an overseas flight.

Right now some cruise lines are offering deals.

''A lot of the companies are offering buy one get one free. They're offering guests three and four, travel for free. Some of them are offering the kids for free, and 60% off the first and second passenger," Kinlaw said.

But you might find better deals if you hold off until mid to late August when the kids are back in school.

Experts advise booking refundable rates on airfare and hotels, being flexible with your dates, and choosing off-peak times.

Setting a fare alert to make sure you're getting the best deal, and monitoring flash deals on resorts, hotels and airfare are also good ideas.

You can also use credit card points and miles to get great deals.

Lastly, if you find a better deal online, ask your provider if they can match that rate.
