Guide to Applying for A Travel Report in the UAE

Now that the government has eased travel restrictions under certain conditions, it’s important that returning residents, especially foreign nationals, comply with the guidelines set by the government to ensure safety, legality, and convenience of their travel.

In this guide, we will share some of the basic things you need to know about a UAE travel report – what is it, how much it cost, where to get one, and who should get it. If this is something you need to acquire soon, make sure to read until the end of this short guide.

Who Needs an ICA Travel Report?

Purpose of an ica travel report, information you can get from an ica travel report, where to get a uae travel report, what are the documents required, how much does an ica travel report cost, applying for an ica travel report in the uae, is it safe to travel in dubai what measures did the government set in place, what are the international travel requirements when travelling to dubai, do i need a covid-19 test when travelling to dubai, here’s what you need to know about applying for a travel report in the uae.

The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICA) approval is a necessary form of certification for entry into the UAE. The Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship is commonly known as the UAE entry and exit certificate (FAIC). For a variety of reasons, ex-pats who have lived in the UAE and UAE residents require a trip record. Previously, all UAE citizens were needed to have it, but now travelers with UAE residence permits must obtain authorisation from the ICA in order to re-enter the country.

With the new laws, UAE residents do not need ICA approval to return home after a foreign visit, however expats need ICA approval from MOFA UAE as well as a valid UAE national identity card (Emirates ID) to return home.

You may require a travel report in a variety of circumstances.

  • Cancelling a residence visa while outside the UAE – This is done to see if the person is within or outside the country.
  • Firm closure – If a company is closing, the owner must show that no employees on the company’s visa are still employed.
  • Moving to a new country – the country to which you are relocating may request your travel history in order to undertake background checks.

The record of travel history to and from the UAE is mentioned in a UAE entry and exit certificate . When someone travels to another nation, their passport is stamped with a visa stamp. This record is considered the travel history of a person named in an FAIC-approved ICA report.

  • Arrival & departure destinations
  • Passport number
  • Transaction type (entry or exit)
  • Transaction date (date of travel)
  • Port name and port type (Airport / Seaport)

You can apply for a UAE entry and exit certificate as:

  • Single Entry/ Exit Travel Report mentioning the most travel status
  • Detailed Entry/ Exit Travel Report with full travel history inside and outside the UAE.

You can also get a personalized report based on your travel history and movement record both inside and outside the UAE. After FAIC clearance, you can obtain your ICA report from the GDRFA (General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs). You must send a copy of your passport and a copy of your Emirates ID with your application for an entry-exit report in the UAE. In the UAE, an ICA report can cost between 200 AED and 300 AED.

Dubai visa holders can now apply for immigration services online using the DubaiNow app . This service includes obtaining a trip record for one’s dependents. You can also get this document from Amer Centers, Tasjeel, ICA Customer Happiness Centers, and authorized typing centers.

If you are applying for a travel report in person, you must have the following documents with you:

– Sponsor’s or applicant’s original Emirates ID

– Applicant’s original passport with visa page copy

– Passport-sized photograph

  • Overall travel report for employees: 276 AED
  • Overall travel report for family: 240 AED
  • Sponsor and sponsored: 256 AED

You can file for a UAE entry and exit report on your own through the ICA website, but you risk receiving a red signal from the authority if you lack sufficient expertise and comprehension of the process. It is preferable to get advice from a professional agency during the process in order to receive a green light for authorisation to visit the UAE effortlessly and promptly.

The official website http://ica.gov.ae or the smartphone app ICA UAE eChannels can be used to apply for an ICA Travel report.

In a few simple steps, a user must first register and create an account with UAE Pass, then submit the application, pay the fees, and obtain the entrance permit by email.

In line with this, customers should exercise caution when giving correct and authentic information. Here are some reminders given by the ICA:

  • When applying for renewal or replacement, double-check that your ID number and expiration date are valid.
  • To avoid delays in the processing of your application, double-check the information you enter into the digital application form before paying the fees.
  • In the digital application form, double-check that details such as phone number, email address, and delivery method are correct. The ICA will verify and validate the information you provide.
  • The nationwide immunization program began in December 2020 and is moving along quickly.
  • The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP), in collaboration with other relevant authorities, continues to place a high premium on the safety and well-being of all visitors to and inhabitants of Dubai. Dubai Tourism continues to work carefully under the World Health Organization’s guidance to maintain stringently high standards of public hygiene and safety, ensuring the safety and well-being of all inhabitants and visitors.
  • Dubai was also awarded the Safe Travels certification by the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) for its established safety protocols.
  • All visitors and residents arriving in Dubai from any country (including GCC nations) must have a negative PCR test certificate, which must be taken no more than 72 hours before to departure time.

  • UAE nationals are exempt from the above requirements but will be asked to take a PCR test upon arrival at Dubai International Airport, unless their place of origin mandates a pre-travel test.
  • Tourists may test at any lab in their country that has been accredited by their health authorities. If you’re flying with Emirates, you can find a list of accredited labs here .

Travel advisory july 13, 2023, united arab emirates - level 2: exercise increased caution.

Reissued with obsolete COVID-19 page links removed.

Exercise increased caution in the United Arab Emirates due to   the threat of missile or drone attacks and terrorism.

Country Summary:  The possibility of attacks affecting U.S. citizens and interests in the Gulf and Arabian Peninsula remains an ongoing, serious concern.  Militant groups operating in Yemen have stated an intent to attack neighboring countries, including the UAE, using missiles and drones.  Missile and drone attacks in early 2022 targeted populated areas and civilian infrastructure.

For more information U.S. citizens should consult the  Federal Aviation Administration’s Prohibitions, Restrictions and Notices .

While residents and visitors generally find a safe and secure environment in the UAE, the country continues to face the threat of terrorism.  Terrorists may attack with little or no warning, targeting tourist locations, transportation hubs, markets, shopping malls, and local government facilities.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Several flights to Dubai were cancelled and diverted Thursday, airport authorities announced, as heavy rains hit the United Arab Emirates for the second time in a month.

An airport authority spokesperson said five inbound flights were diverted overnight, while nine arriving and four departing flights were cancelled.

In April, heavy thunderstorms dumped the heaviest rains ever recorded in the UAE in a span of hours, flooding portions of major highways and Dubai International Airport, the world’s busiest for international travel and a hub for the long-haul carrier Emirates. The airport ended up needing 22 tankers with vacuum pumps to get water off its grounds.

Authorities warned residents to stay home ahead of Thursday’s rain, announcing that they should work remotely, and that schools will hold classes online.

Although Thursday’s rain did not cause major problems or flooding, authorities still issued warnings on Wednesday and took precautions.

The flooding two weeks ago quickly overwhelmed the UAE’s drainage systems, flooded out neighborhoods, business districts and even portions of the 12-lane Sheikh Zayed Highway, which links Dubai and the neighboring emirate of Abu Dhabi. Many residents lost their belongings when their homes flooded, and many cars were destroyed.

Hot Oceans Worsened Dubai’s Dramatic Flooding, Scientists Say

An international team of researchers found that heavy rains had intensified in the region, though they couldn’t say for sure how much climate change was responsible.

Scenes of flood-ravaged neighborhoods in one of the planet’s driest regions stunned the world this month. Heavy rains in the United Arab Emirates and Oman submerged cars, clogged highways and killed at least 21 people. Flights out of Dubai’s airport, a major global hub, were severely disrupted.

The downpours weren’t a total surprise — forecasters had anticipated the storms several days earlier and issued warnings. But they were certainly unusual.

Here’s what to know.

Heavy rain there is rare, but not unheard-of.

On average, the Arabian Peninsula receives a scant few inches of rain a year, although scientists have found that a sizable chunk of that precipitation falls in infrequent but severe bursts, not as periodic showers. These rains often come during El Niño conditions like the ones the world is experiencing now.

U.A.E. officials said the 24-hour rain total on April 16 was the country’s largest since records there began in 1949 . And parts of the nation had already experienced an earlier round of thunderstorms in March.

Oman, with its coastline on the Arabian Sea, is also vulnerable to tropical cyclones. Past storms there have brought torrential rain, powerful winds and mudslides, causing extensive damage.

Global warming is projected to intensify downpours.

Stronger storms are a key consequence of human-caused global warming. As the atmosphere gets hotter, it can hold more moisture, which can eventually make its way down to the earth as rain or snow.

But that doesn’t mean rainfall patterns are changing in precisely the same way across every part of the globe.

In their latest assessment of climate research , scientists convened by the United Nations found there wasn’t enough data to have firm conclusions about rainfall trends in the Arabian Peninsula and how climate change was affecting them. The researchers said, however, that if global warming were to be allowed to continue worsening in the coming decades, extreme downpours in the region would quite likely become more intense and more frequent.

Hot oceans are a big factor.

An international team of scientists has made a first attempt at estimating the extent to which climate change may have contributed to April’s storms. The researchers didn’t manage to pin down the connection precisely, though in their analysis, they did highlight one known driver of heavy rain in the region: above-normal ocean temperatures.

Large parts of the Indian, Pacific and Atlantic Oceans have been hotter than usual recently, in part because of El Niño and other natural weather cycles, and in part because of human-induced warming .

When looking only at El Niño years, the scientists estimated that storm events as infrequent as this month’s delivered 10 percent to 40 percent more rain to the region than they would in a world that hadn’t been warmed by human activities. They cautioned, however, that these estimates were highly uncertain.

“Rainfall, in general, is getting more extreme,” said Mansour Almazroui, a climate scientist at King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and one of the researchers who contributed to the analysis.

The analysis was conducted by scientists affiliated with World Weather Attribution, a research collaboration that studies extreme weather events shortly after they occur. Their findings about this month’s rains haven’t yet been peer reviewed, but are based on standardized methods .

The role of cloud seeding isn’t clear.

The U.A.E. has for decades worked to increase rainfall and boost water supplies by seeding clouds. Essentially, this involves shooting particles into clouds to encourage the moisture to gather into larger, heavier droplets, ones that are more likely to fall as rain or snow.

Cloud seeding and other rain-enhancement methods have been tried around the world, including in Australia, China, India, Israel, South Africa and the United States. Studies have found that these operations can, at best, affect precipitation modestly — enough to turn a downpour into a bigger downpour, but probably not a drizzle into a deluge.

Still, experts said pinning down how much seeding might have contributed to this month’s storms would require detailed study.

“In general, it is quite a challenge to assess the impact of seeding,” said Luca Delle Monache, a climate scientist at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography in La Jolla, Calif. Dr. Delle Monache has been leading efforts to use artificial intelligence to improve the U.A.E.’s rain-enhancement program.

An official with the U.A.E.’s National Center of Meteorology, Omar Al Yazeedi, told news outlets that the agency didn’t conduct any seeding during the latest storms. His statements didn’t make clear, however, whether that was also true in the hours or days before.

Mr. Al Yazeedi didn’t respond to emailed questions from The New York Times, and Adel Kamal, a spokesman for the center, didn’t have further comment.

Cities in dry places just aren’t designed for floods.

Wherever it happens, flooding isn’t just a matter of how much rain comes down. It’s also about what happens to all that water once it’s on the ground — most critically, in the places people live.

Cities in arid regions often aren’t designed to drain very effectively. In these areas, paved surfaces block rain from seeping into the earth below, forcing it into drainage systems that can easily become overwhelmed.

One recent study of Sharjah , the capital of the third-largest emirate in the U.A.E., found that the city’s rapid growth over the past half-century had made it vulnerable to flooding at far lower levels of rain than before.
