Entry, Exit and Visa Requirements

Traveling Through Europe : Belgium is a party to the Schengen Agreement. If you are planning to visit or travel through European countries, you should be familiar with the requirements of the Schengen Agreement.

  • Your passport should be valid for at least three months beyond the period of stay. If you plan on transiting or visiting a Schengen country review our U.S. Travelers in Europe page .
  • You will need sufficient proof of funds and a return plane ticket .

Visit the  Embassy of Belgium  website for the most current visa information.

The Government of Belgium does not recognize the 12-page U.S. emergency passport, issued by U.S. embassies and consulates overseas, as a valid travel document for visa-free entry into Belgium. If traveling on this emergency passport, you may be refused boarding and/or entry by immigration officials. Only direct transit through Belgium for a destination in the United States is permitted with an emergency passport. You should check entry requirements of any other country of destination to make sure the emergency passport is accepted for entry.

HIV/AIDS RESTRICITONS:  The U.S. Department of State is unaware of any HIV/AIDS entry restrictions for visitors to or foreign residents of Belgium.

Find information on dual nationality , prevention of international child abduction , and customs regulations on our website.

Safety and Security

Terrorism:  Terrorist groups and those inspired by such organizations are intent on attacking U.S. citizens abroad, including possible attacks in Europe. Terrorists are increasingly using less sophisticated methods of attack – including knives, firearms, rudimentary IEDs, and vehicles – to more effectively target crowds. Frequently, their aim is unprotected or vulnerable targets, such as:

  • High-profile public events (sporting contests, political rallies, demonstrations, holiday events, celebratory gatherings, concerts, etc.)
  • Hotels, clubs, and restaurants frequented by tourists
  • Places of worship
  • Parks/festivals
  • Shopping malls and markets
  • Public transportation systems (including subways, buses, trains, and airports/scheduled commercial flights)

For more information, see our Terrorism page.

  • Low-level street crime including robberies, smash and grab car robberies, purse snatchings, stealing electronics, and pickpocketing is common, particularly in major cities, in public areas such as restaurants, the Brussels metro at night, buses/trams, and all train stations. Thieves often operate in teams, by bumping into or shoving the target, especially in crowds. Be alert to distractions.
  • Theft from vehicles is common. Always drive with your windows up and the doors locked, as thieves sometimes target cars stopped at traffic lights. Thieves may smash the window and grab valuables. Use parking garages when possible, and if you must use street parking, look for a spot near a street light. Do not leave anything visible on the seats, floor, or dashboard.
  • Theft of bags on trains has increased, particularly the Brussels-Amsterdam route. Thieves often target light bags placed overhead. Keep bags with cash, valuables, and travel documents close to you, rather than in the overhead shelf on trains.
  • Carry only a minimal amount of cash, credit cards, and necessary personal identification.
  • Avoid wearing expensive jewelry and watches.

Demonstrations   occur frequently . They may take place in response to political or economic issues, on politically significant holidays, and during international events. Avoid areas around protests and demonstrations.

  • Police routinely monitor protestors and demonstrations.
  • Even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and possibly become violent. Check local media for updates and traffic advisories.
  • Monitor the  Embassy website for demonstration alerts.

International Financial Scams: U.S. citizens have lost tens of thousands of dollars in scams in Belgium. See the  Department of State  and the  FBI  pages for more information.

  • Common internet scams include confidence schemes, in which friends, family, or others receive a message that a U.S. citizen traveler is stranded in Belgium and in need of funds to pay for customs fees.
  • U.S. citizens in the United States who have been victimized by Internet crime should report it to the  Internet Crime Complaint Center .
  • Check ATMs or other machines for skimmers or removeable readers. When possible utilize bank ATMs. In bars and restaurants, have the card swiped in front of you and do not let it be taken away.

Victims of Crime: U.S. citizen victims of sexual assault are encouraged to contact the U.S. Embassy for assistance. Report crimes to the local police at 101 . For all other emergencies, please dial  112 . Contact the U.S. Embassy at  +(32) (2) 811-4000 . Remember that local authorities are responsible for investigating and prosecuting crime.

The Belgian Commission for Financial Assistance to Victims of Intentional Acts of Violence  provides financial compensation, under specific circumstances, for victims of crime and for those who have suffered injuries and consequent losses caused by such incidents. The Commission also provides for dependents or immediate family members of homicide victims. For more information, contact the Commission by phone at  32-2-542-7208; 32-2-542-7218; 32-2-542-7224; 32-2-542-7229, or 32-2-542-7244;  by e-mail at  [email protected]  or  [email protected] ; or visit the  Ministry of Justice website  (French and Dutch only).

See our webpage on  help for U.S. victims of crime overseas .

  • Provide an emergency loan for repatriation to the United States and/or limited medical support in cases of destitution
  • Help you find accommodation and arrange flights home
  • Replace a stolen or lost passpor

Domestic Violence:  U.S. citizen victims of domestic violence may contact the Embassy for assistance.

Tourism: The tourism industry is generally regulated and rules are regularly enforced. Hazardous areas/activities are identified with appropriate signage and professional staff is typically on hand in support of organized activities. In the event of an injury, appropriate medical treatment is widely available throughout the country. Outside of a major metropolitan center, it may take more time for first responders and medical professionals to stabilize a patient and provide life-saving assistance. U.S. citizens are encouraged to purchase medical evacuation insurance .

Local Laws & Special Circumstances

Criminal Penalties:  You are subject to local laws. If you violate local laws, even unknowingly, you may be expelled, arrested, or imprisoned. Individuals establishing a business or practicing a profession that requires additional permits or licensing should seek information from the competent local authorities prior to practicing or operating a business.

Furthermore, some laws are also prosecutable in the United States, regardless of local law. For examples, see our website on  crimes against minors abroad  and the  Department of Justice  website.

Arrest Notification:  If you are arrested or detained, ask police or prison officials to notify the U.S. Embassy immediately. See our  webpage  for further information.

Faith-Based Travelers: See the following webpages for details:

  • Faith-Based Travel Information
  • International Religious Freedom Report – see country reports
  • Human Rights Report – see country reports
  • Hajj Fact Sheet for Travelers
  • Best Practices for Volunteering Abroad

LGBTI Travelers: There are no legal restrictions on same-sex sexual relations or the organization of LGBTI events in Belgium.

See our  LGBTI Travel Information  page and section 6 of our  Human Rights report  for further details.

Travelers Who Require Accessibility Assistance: While in Belgium, individuals with disabilities may find accessibility and accommodation very different than in the United States.

  • Belgian law requires that any  new  building with public or community space must be accessible for persons with disabilities.
  • Many existing buildings as well as public transportation systems are less adapted to individuals with disabilities.
  • General information on the accessibility of tourist accommodations, public transportation, museums, and other tourist facilities can be found on official tourism sites for Belgium’s three major regions:  Brussels ,  Wallonia , and  Flanders .

Students: See our  Students Abroad  page and  FBI travel tips .

Women Travelers: See our travel tips for  Women Travelers .

High-quality medical facilities and services are widely available in Belgium. The large university hospitals can handle most medical problems. Equivalents for most, but not all, U.S. medications are available through local pharmacies with a prescription from a Belgian physician. The responsiveness of emergency services is also generally excellent.

For emergency services in Belgium, dial 112.

Ambulance services are widely available.

We do not pay medical bills.  Be aware that U.S. Medicare/Medicaid does not apply overseas. Most hospitals and doctors overseas do not accept U.S. health insurance.

Medical Insurance:  Make sure your health insurance plan provides coverage overseas. Most care providers overseas only accept cash payments. See  our webpage  for more information on overseas insurance coverage. Visit the  U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention  for more information on type of insurance you should consider before you travel overseas.

We strongly recommend supplemental insurance to cover medical evacuation.

Always carry your prescription medication in original packaging, along with your doctor’s prescription. Check with the  Belgian Federal Public Health Service  to ensure the medication is legal in Belgium.

Vaccinations:  Be up-to-date on all  vaccinations  recommended by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Further health information:

  • World Health Organization
  • U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention  (CDC)

Air Quality:  Visit  AirNow Department of State  for information on air quality at U.S. Embassies and Consulates.

The U.S. Embassy maintains a  list of doctors and hospitals . We do not endorse or recommend any specific medical provider or clinic.

Travel and Transportation

Road Conditions and Safety:

  • Belgium’s road network is generally well-built and maintained.
  • Adequate lighting exists on major highways, but on rural roads it is often insufficient or nonexistent.
  • Roadside assistance and information on road conditions are available in English from Touring Mobilis, telephone 02 286-3040. Belgian police will also provide information on road conditions, telephone 02-642-6666.
  • Emergency services are efficient and responsive. For police emergencies, dial 101 by phone within Belgium. For all other emergencies, dial 112.

Traffic Laws:

  • Traffic coming from the right generally has priority at uncontrolled intersections, even if coming from a smaller street.
  • The  maximum speed limit on Belgian highways  is 120 kilometers (72 miles) per hour but is not always posted.
  • The  maximum speed in urban areas  is 50 km (30 miles) per hour, but in central Brussels it is 30 km (19 miles) per hour.
  • While Belgian authorities strictly  enforce speed limits , many Belgians still drive significantly faster than the posted limit. Claiming ignorance of the speed limit may not prevent you from getting a significant fine for speeding, and your vehicle may be impounded if you can’t pay the fine on the spot. Automated radars with cameras are common and violators are issued citations through the mail.
  • Belgian police also conduct  breath analysis checks for alcohol use , particularly at night and during major holidays. The legal limit for operating a motor vehicle is .5 grams of alcohol per liter of blood (.05 percent Blood Alcohol Content).
  • You must use your seat belt  while driving in a vehicle.
  • Bicycling  is very common in Belgium, for both recreational and more traditional transportation purposes. Wear helmets at all times and follow vehicle travel rules (stopping at lights, crosswalks, etc.). Follow bike paths when available.

Public Transportation:  Brussels and most major cities of Belgium have extensive and efficient public transportation systems. Trains, buses, and ferries connect Brussels with other major cities in Belgium and with the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Luxembourg, and The Netherlands. Traveling by train is considered to be safer than driving.

See our  Road Safety page  for more information. Visit the website of the  Belgian national authority responsible for road safety.

Aviation Safety Oversight:  The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has assessed the government of Belgium’s Civil Aviation Authority as being in compliance with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) aviation safety standards for oversight of Belgium’s air carrier operations. Further information may be found on the  FAA’s safety assessment page .

Brussels Airport Delays: Travelers have experienced significant delays at passport control at Brussels airport, during both arrival and departure.  We recommend outbound passengers check with your airline to find out their cutoff time for check-in and seek your airline’s recommendations on how to mitigate potential passport control delays.

Maritime Travel:  Mariners planning travel to Belgium should also check for  U.S. maritime advisories and alerts . Information may also be posted to the  U.S. Coast Guard homeport website , and the  NGA broadcast warnings .

Schengen Area

A Schengen Visa is a document that allows the holder to travel freely within the Schengen Area or Zone for a maximum stay of up to 90 days in any 6 month perio d. This Schengen Area is a group of 26 European countries (22 European Union member states and 4 EFTA member states) that have abolished passport and immigration controls at their common borders and they are namely:

These 27 countries are namely:

  • Czech Republic
  • Denmark [1]
  • Liechtenstein
  • Netherlands [3]
  • Switzerland

[1] Excluding Greenland and the Faroe Islands [2] Excluding overseas departments and territories [3] Excluding Aruba, Curaçao, Sint Maarten, and the Caribbean Netherlands [4] Excluding Svalbard [5] With special provisions for Ceuta and Melilla

There are certain nationalities worldwide that are exempted from applying for a Schengen Visa, but as Philippine passport holders, in order to visit one or more of these Schengen states, we are required to apply for the visa. (Remember, Schengen Tourist Visa holders are NOT allowed to live permanently nor work in Europe, they only have the right to travel as a temporary visitor within the allotted timeframe indicated on their visa.)

» READ: How to Stay Longer in Europe

NOTE: It helps to mention that there are non-Schengen members in Europe that allow entry to their country if you have a Schengen Visa, namely: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Macedonia, Monaco, Montenegro, Romania, San Marino, Serbia, Turkey, and Vatican City.

HOWEVER, you must check these details beforehand since their rules might have changed. Plus, customarily, only multiple-entry Schengen visas are allowed. For starters, you can check this list for a list of countries you can visit with a Schengen visa .

» When should I apply for a Schengen Visa?

Apply as early as three (3) months or 90 days before your planned trip date departure.

You can apply several days before your trip, sure — but it’s always best that you give enough time for the embassy to look into your application. After all, you wouldn’t want to make plans only to have the embassy provide you with a visa that has a validity period that’s NOT within your intended travel dates.

For Schengen Visas that have the main purpose of visiting a friend/family/national or reuniting with a fiancé/husband/etc. in a Schengen state, naturally, you should apply in the corresponding Embassy of the country where that person comes from.

Meanwhile, if you are planning to visit several Schengen Countries for your trip, your application must be made at the embassy of the main destination country — meaning, the country where you will be staying the longest . If the length of stay is almost the same, it’s best to apply for the country that you will first fly or enter in.

For my case, I determined that I had to apply at the Belgian Embassy because I will not only be staying in their country the longest, but my first point of entry will also be in their territory.

» Which Schengen embassy will I have a better chance of getting a Visa?

There’s no such thing as an embassy that would easily give away Schengen Visas. But, if it is a question of time — like which Embassy can you get application results the quickest — then that would be an easier query for me to answer, which then leads us to the question…

» How long does it take for Schengen Visa results to be released?

To the best of my knowledge, the following Embassies usually release visas earliest in an average of:

  • Switzerland Embassy : 5 days
  • French Embassy : 2-5 days
  • Norwegian Embassy : 5 days – the Norwegian Embassy also handles Visa processing for Schengen countries that have no Embassies here in Manila such as Iceland
  • German Embassy : 7 days
  • Belgian and Netherlands (Dutch) Embassy : 15 days – the Belgian Embassy also handles Visa processing for Schengen countries that have no Embassies here in Manila, like Luxembourg and Slovenia
  • Danish Embassy : 15 days
  • Italian Embassy : 15 days

It can surely take longer if they need more documents or details from you.

Application Process for Belgium Schengen Visa

Step 1: determine the type of belgium schengen visa you need to apply for.

There are, of course, various types of Belgium Schengen Visas out there that you can apply for:  a visa for residence, a visa for studying, a visa for work, a visa for transit, a visa for being a fiancé, etc.

For this particular guide though, I will only be discussing the requirements for a short stay ( less than 90 days ) tourist visa which is also similar to a visa for a family visit or private invitation since they are experiences that I’ve gone through.

So if you have a different situation or purpose of visit, it’s best that you head over to this page  for more information.

Step 2: Schedule your appointment online with VFS Global

Starting the 16th of January 2017, all applicants should place an appointment through VFS .

The steps you should take would be:

  • First, create a new electronic visa application form and complete it correctly. You can do this by going to this link . Create an account as a new user by clicking ‘ Not registered yet ‘, and once your account is set up, you will be led to the electronic visa application form. There are mandatory fields indicated by an asterisk (*) in this form and they all have to be filled in correctly before you can submit your application. .
  • Once the application has been submitted electronically, you will receive a confirmation e-mail with the application form in PDF format in the attachment. You must print and sign this form, and then join it with the rest of your documents in support of your application. (For family members or a group, an application form must be submitted for each person.) .
  • By this point, you should make an appointment with VFS by going to this link. Once an appointment is booked, the system will generate an appointment letter, and you should bring this when you visit the Belgium Schengen Visa Application Centre of VFS in Makati.

Step 3: Double-check your documents

General requirements.

Apart from the printed electronic visa application form mentioned above that you filled out in this link , you should also submit the following additional requirements to VFS on your appointment date, as applicable to you.

Make sure that you submit 1 original copy of all the below applicable documents and 1 complete set of their photocopy.

  • Visa application form This is the document you completed above in ‘Step 2’ .
  • Valid passport with no less than 3 months validity from the date of intended travel Note : Provide a photocopy of your valid passport, a photocopy of former visas, if any, and a photocopy of entry/exit stamps of countries you’ve previously visited. .
  • Two (2) recent 2 x 2 colored passport-size photos with WHITE background Note : Taken with nothing covering the face, without sunglasses or contact lenses, or a head covering unless worn for religious or medical reasons. The subject should have their mouth closed (no grinning, frowning, or raised eyebrows). Paste your photo on each of the electronic visa form that you completed online (1 original and 1 photocopy of the form).

For the Sponsor (If Applicable)

  • Original Affidavit of Support called “Bijlage 3bis/Verbintenis Tot Tenlasteneming / Prise en charge/Annexe 3Bis”, legalized by the sponsor’s municipality in Belgium Note : Make sure it is the original, so they should ship this document to you. .
  • Photocopy of the sponsor’s resident or Belgian ID card (front and back) .
  • Photocopy of the sponsor’s birth certificate or marriage certificate .
  • Original copy of the Family Composition of the sponsor called “ Composition de Ménage/Samenstelling Van Het Gezin ” to be obtained from the sponsor’s municipality as well .
  • For employees: Proof of employment and salary slips in the last three (3) months and last income tax assessment paper from the Finance Department in Belgium
  • For private businessmen: An extract of the company from the Chamber of Commerce (business registration), bank statements of private bank and their company’s bank account in the last three (3) months. .
  • Invitation letter explaining the reason for their invitation, the duration of your stay, where you will stay, their email, address, and contact number, and an assurance that you will not overstay there.

For the Applicant

  • Here is the cover letter I used: [ sample guide ] .
  • Proof of relationship with the sponsor (if applicable) Note : I provided travel history and photos .
  • Authenticated birth certificate from NSO. If you’re married, bring also a photocopy of your marriage contract, as well as the birth certificates of your children (if applicable) . .
  • For employees : Proof of employment of the applicant such as a certificate of employment (COE) stating position, years of service, monthly salary, and approved leave of absence (this will help justify that you will NOT overstay). If you are going away for a long time, the Belgian Embassy might ask for a certified leave of absence (LOA) from your employer. Also: provide 3 most recent payslips and ITR (Income Tax Return) for the past year.
  • For self-employed : A copy of Official Business Registration/ Business Permit, ITR, and bank statement of the company for the last 3 months
  • For unemployed persons: It could work if you could show them a job offer, or if applicable, documents showing any of your real estate property here in the Philippines. For proof of financial credibility, you can provide copies of credit cards, bank certificates, or bank statements in the last six (6) months.
  • For minors : Parental consent legalized by DFA 6 or a DSWD Travel, Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) clearance, copy of the passport of parents or legal guardian clearance, and birth certificate of the minor issued on National Statistics Office (NSO) security paper.
  • For students : School enrollment certificate and approved leave of absence.
Are you self-employed? Start filing your local taxes as early as NOW — after all, a lot of embassies (not only Belgium) require an ITR. So if you’re looking for a hassle-free experience on Philippines tax compliance, I suggest registering with Taxumo because they can take care of literally everything for you: tax forms, payments, and submissions. I’ve been using them for years now and it has been such a time-saver. Come sign up with my code AILEEN and you can get a 10% discount on all their subscription plans!

Also, cancellations can even be done 24 hours prior to your booked date (just read through the hotel policies to be sure that they’re under this scheme). .

Your biometric data (digital fingerprints and photo) will be captured and you will be asked to pay the non-refundable visa fee (except in case of gratuity) and a service fee by VFS for the deposit of your visa application Once you submit your visa application, you can choose to receive your passport via courier or you can collect it at the VFS counter.

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

The visa-processing fee is EUR 60 (it is approximately Php 3,500 – depending on the day’s official Belgian Embassy exchange rate). This fee is non-refundable even if the application is unsuccessful. Payments are made at VFS during the submission of your application, and it is best that you have the exact amount on hand. (For a complete list of visa fees imposed by the Belgian Embassy, see here . Meanwhile, for the additional fee of VFS, it’s at Php 1,100.)

Yes, it’s possible! According to the recent Schengen visa code, you can get a 1-year multiple-entry tourist visa if you have obtained and lawfully used three (3) Schengen tourist visas in the past 2 years at the time of your application. You can get a 2-year multiple-entry tourist visa if you have obtained and used a 1-year multiple-entry visa within the previous 2 years; and lastly, you can get a 5-year multiple-entry tourist visa if you have obtained and used a 2-year multiple-entry visa in the past 3 years.

Even if visa applications are now simply submitted to VFS, there is still a chance that the Embassy might ask that you visit them for an interview. If they do, there’s no need to come in wearing formal or business wear — casual wear is the best to have as long as you appear respectable and clean. In my case before, I just came to the Belgian Embassy wearing a dress. (Don’t go in a revealing dress, of course.) The guys who were there were usually wearing pants and polo. So basically, wear something that makes you feel confident, presentable, and comfortable. The address of the Belgian Embassy in the Philippines is at Multinational Bancorporation Center, 9th floor, Ayala Avenue at Makat i (somewhere near PLDT’s business center).

It helps to note that my interview experience happened before the implementation of VFS services, so it’s possible that the interview process in the Embassy has changed. Nevertheless, I will just continue to share my past experience as it might already help you. From what I can remember, the questions that were asked of me were about: — The purpose and length of stay in Belgium — My financial status and my employment — Where will I be staying and my planned itinerary Generally: the questions will vary depending on your situation, but going by what others were asked of as well, these were usually the ‘main’ topics that the Visa Officer wanted to ask about. So just be honest and consistent, and all will work fine.

You can track your visa application on the Belgian website of VFS here . Rest assured, you will be immediately informed once a decision has been taken regarding your visa application. If in case the Embassy submits your visa application to the Immigration Office of the Federal Public Service Home Affairs in Belgium for further decision, your file number will be communicated to you upon the submission of your file to the Immigration Office. From this stage onwards, the Immigration Office is the only authority to contact if you wish to know the status of your application. With the file number, you can inquire about the status of your application by… Telephone: + 32 2 793 80 00 Email: [email protected] (link sends e-mail) By fax: + 32 2 274 66 91

For one of my Belgium Schengen visa applications that involved staying at my sponsor’s residence/house in Belgium, I was required to report to their town hall within the first 8 days to request an official paper stating my registration of stay. I was to submit this paper to the Embassy of Belgium in Makati as soon as I am back to Manila as proof that I have traveled, that I am back, and that I did NOT overstay.

I haven’t gone through this, so I am unsure how you can proceed if this happened to you. But from what I’ve heard, the Belgian Embassy will usually provide you the reason for their refusal (oftentimes, it’s usually because of the Embassy’s uncertainty that you will return back here to the Philippines so it is best that you really give them the reason/assurance that you WILL go back.) Anyhow, I believe you can appeal to them and the steps on how will usually be enclosed in their letter to you. I am not sure what the other details are since I couldn’t seem to find any info on the Embassy of Belgium’s website, so if ever this does happen to you, feel free to contact the Belgian Embassy for more information on how you can appeal on your application. Otherwise, just try applying again! There’s no limit to reapplications; but of course, try to learn from your past mistakes and ensure that you have every needed document. Good luck!

Top 5 airlines flying to Belgium

Not that good The crew in the plane were rim professional & almost lost in their work distribution

Emirates flights always nice. Service rendered by the staff is superb.I am always comfortable in Emirates flights.

Overall emirates continues to amaze me with their. Awesome service . I had shifted away from emirates , because I lost luggage and watch in emirates in 2019 that drifted me away from this airline , but I am willing to give it try

I wish any of the US airlines operated like Emirates

Food was not great. Crew members were created hassle with attitude at the gates and wasted my valuable time. I have been traveling in Emirates airlines many times. Over all not happy flying in Emirates airlines this time. Seats are very small and not comfortable. Seats looks like very very old and congested. It would be nice if they fix these kind of issues. I hope my next trip will be hassle free and comfortable journey in Emirates airlines. Thank you.

Cabin crew were not welcoming.was expecting excellent after traveling in Emirates from Houston to Dubai.

For such a long flight I feel the spacing of seats could’ve been better to make it more comfortable for passengers. Very little space to move & stretch legs.

The flight was delayed in Jhb and I could have had some help in Dubai trying to get to my connecting flight to London

We purchased extra legroom seats for both legs of flight through budget air. Seats were not honored by emirates. Had to spend frustrating hour to get seats we paid for on first leg to Dubai. Second leg to Jakarta were denied and had to sit in middle seat. Had to spend hour on phone yesterday to try to get refund. We’re told needed to send copies of boarding passes of which already threw away first leg boarding pass. Very very frustrating. This happened as well one year ago with emirates.

Dirty plane. Urine on floor of lavatories, food was not cleaned from previous leg of flight prior to boarding, lavatories only cleaned once inflight. Boarded by group number, but did not inform passengers in terminal. So standing in line for ~40min.

It was good no problems made it on time for the next flight overseas!

It was a long flight but overall a good one. The one thing that I would comment on is that there is a real problem with disposable plastic products when it comes to the meal service. It would be great for Qatar Airways to find ways to make its meal service more circular and reduce the immense amount of waste.

From Montreal to Doha , we habe two complaints : 1) They want to charge for Seat Selection, claiming that the Class of ticket bought on Kayak did not cover seat selection. It such a penny pinching rule, I told them, since we paid almost $20,000 our 3 tickets , that rule should never exist. Also I reserved my tickets so many months ahead, I expected they will naturally put the family together or move somebody else to keep our family seating together. I filed a complaint, and NOBODY ANSWERED. 2) In Montreal, Qatar has an arrangement with the National Bank Lounge. It was so overcrowded and the Lounge is so bad in terms of service and food, amenities etc... The WORST lounge . Why Qatar not have another arrangement their Business Class clients in Montreal. The Air France KLM Lounger is better, the Air Canada Lounge is better. Qatar should send somebody to take a look ! Joseph Chung

They shld provide food. Between food they are giving 10 hours gap which is toooo much

I liked the overall service and comfort. The only annoying thing was paying for excess baggage at the airport. They have limited options and they don't take all cards.

Too many boarding protocols. Never experienced with other international flights.

Food could be much better. Entertainment needs lot of improvement. The luggage came out open with broken bags. The flight landed at 3:15 PM in US and by the time bags came out it was 5:15 PM or so. Staff at airport was aggressive and not polite.

Fine. Don’t think I would fly with them again

You're like a poor man's Emirates Airlines. The Asian vegetarian food was awful. The entertainment selection was very limited and not contemporary at all. The seats were cramped. There was no plug for charging my phone (I refuse to plug into a USB port - A security risk). The plane itself was aged.

Flight could have been better. Sandwiches provided in the meal were inedible. Service was pathetic

COmpared to my experience in the business class of other airlines the food variety and offerings were meager. They did not have any cookies or crackers for snacking! They were unable to offer some other items. This has never been my experience in other airlines.

Just on time arrival and departure would make it great

The airplane from IAD to Istanbul was too old. The chairs were to tight and uncomfortable. I continued my travel from Istanbul to Bangkok. This airplane was better and newer than the first one. Even food was better.

Food not good, flight attendants not the best, not accommodating very ruff

Pathetic flight. No inflight entertainment and seats were very cramped

A very good airlines; we were pleasantly surprised by the attentive professional and service! Great job.

I found it okay. Did not think the food was that great. And the service could have been better. Seat was a little cramped. Delay getting to Istanbul made me rush all the way across the airport to get to the connection. This was a not good experience.

Leaving on time would have been a good start . Sat in plane while they cleaned around us . We got to Turkey raced to our next flight to see plane sitting at the gate 5 minutes before departure time to be told “ plane is gone “ while obviously it wasn’t . Showed them time on my phone before departure. Then “ gate is closed “ . Then he said “Instead of talking to me you need to go talk to someone else to get another flight “ . We booked business class no service waited in line to have to rebook same flight day later. Offered hotel room but wait for a bus to heard us to what I’m sure would have been cheap hotel. Opted for private cab and decent hotel at our own expense. Bad service at ever turn . NEVER TURKISH AIRLINES AGAIN !

Service for wheelchair person is very poor. No display at exit door from Delhi to Istanbul airport, so you cannot decide where to go, and the helper for wheelchair person asked $10.00 american money, when I said you should not charge or I asked him to take indian money. He said he needs only American dollars and bring me back and dropped me at the same exit door helplessly. I felt bad very much but was helpless. And ranaway. I was to take his picture to post it on the website. So many passengers were waiting for the help, ultimately one buggy came and helped the passengers and the driver did not ask any money. Please let the air authorites know the incident.

Seats were too small, extremely uncomfortable. My knees were being stabbed by a broken spring in the seat in front of me.

The flight was one hour late. The food is mediocre and the screen was broken

Seat in front of my wife was broken so it reclined further than normal and without having to push the recline button so my wife had absolutely no room the entire 17 hour flight. My seat was broken and wouldn't recline at all. Also.. my tray table was sticky and dirty right away before I even used it. Also...the floor in the back of the plane from our row of seats on back was totally soaked and both times we landed water came rushing out of the food/servant area like a flood onto the same already wet carpet. It got everything wet that was placed around our feet...including our shoes and socks.

Same but worse than international. The inter African flights are worse.

The entertainment (movies) blockbuster and classics never change. I am a frequent Ethiopian flyer and this should be addressed. Not much changed from my summer flight and my December flight. It is annoying - surely you can update the selections more often. Same with food options. It becomes extremely boring to be offered the same exact meals from Washington to Addis to Maputo every trip, each time. AS

Food was horrible. Our flight was not comfortable due to turbulence, seats was not comfortable, Very tight barely can not move anywhere.

The check in staff was amazing. Best customer service! The plane was old! My entertainment on the first flight didn't work at all, in my seat or in the seat next to me. The bathroom doors were old and troublesome. One of the bathrooms, the whole sink panel was broken. Everything felt old and falling apart. The airline stewardesses were amazing and quite hospitable. When there were delays, they kept us well informed. Transit was GREAT! I wasn't sure how I would make it to my next flight in 1 1/2 hours but the security lines were short and efficient. The C gates in Addis Ababa were CROWDED! That whole space downstairs was too crowded and challenging to manuever. I usually fly Ethiopian within Africa and was interested to see how the experience would be intercontinental. Overall, I would choose it again if it was cheaper than Delta/Air France or Lufthansa/KLM. I wouldn't make it a first choice if the prices were the same because the planes are so old! The food and entertainment also weren't as good. Good selection of movies but as I mentioned, on the first flight they didn't work at all (I slept so it was okay) and the 2nd flight it was glitchy. All in all, I didn't hate it but it would be a first choice only if it's cheaper.

The wifi service was really poor I try to use it the service was extremely poor if that could be improved that will go a long way

The food really sucks And they really need to work on entertainment The movie selection is herendous .

Crew were very polite and quicker in service. Excellent cooling, comfortable seats and tasty food served

One thing is very important is you people not giving seat arrangement together to couple, senior citizen. You have to take care of senior citizen. Do not look about money. Money is not important everywhere. Make relationship strong is very very important. I like Etiyad air line out of all air line. Food was hot and delicious. Air hostess gave very good service, nice attitude, very good behaviour. I gave 10 out of 10 marks. Thanks Jivraj

Etihad broke my suitcase Also over charged me for luggage

Entertainment did not work from flight from Abu Dhabi to Kolkata. Emirates has a much better flight in that sector.

Ripped off and broken seats in Business class. Seats stink and need to request the staff for additional bedsheets. Crew if very friendly though

Boarding was quick and efficient. Ground staff were pleasant and courteous. Food was tasty, portions were good for me. Food containers kept slipping on the tray. Tray would look better with an anti-skid tray mat. I had the bulkhead seat which was very uncomfortable for couple of reasons. Aircraft is designed with no throughput to move across aisle to aisle. Passengers kept jumping over my legs to get from one side to the other to use the toilet. Secondly I had a mother and 9 month baby next to me. Mom had to hold baby for 12 hours in her lap as he did not fit into the bassinet. Half the baby was on my lap during the flight. Aircraft temperature was very cold - light attendant said it was the central cooling and nothing could be done about it. Movie selection was very poor old and outdated.

Crew was good, boarding mediocre, food choices were limited, seating was not comfortable

Sits are very uncomfortable Don’t feel like to travel in Etihad. It was 1st time we traveled in Etihad now we decided we don’t want to travel in Etihad.

Sits are very uncomfortable and food quality should be improved. Alcohol you have to ask and wait for more then 1/2 hrs. Don’t feel like to travel in Etihad. It was 1st time we traveled in Etihad now we decided we don’t want to travel in Etihad.

Very very bad service very tight seats never ever flying with Etihad again

Do Filipino citizens need a Schengen visa for Belgium?

Yes, Filipino citizens need a Schengen visa to travel to Belgium . As Belgium is part of the Schengen Area, which comprises 27 European countries with open borders, Filipino citizens must have a Schengen visa to enter the country for short-term stays.

What is a Belgium Schengen Visa?

A Belgium Schengen Visa is a type of short-term visa that allows foreign nationals, including Filipino citizens, to travel to Belgium and other Schengen Area countries for a temporary stay.

The Schengen Area is a group of 27 European countries that have abolished internal borders, allowing for unrestricted movement of people within the area. These countries have also adopted a standard visa policy, which means that a Schengen visa issued by one country is generally valid for travel to all other Schengen countries.

The Belgian Schengen Visa is specifically issued for travel to Belgium , but it also allows the visa holder to visit other Schengen countries during the authorized period. However, Belgium must be the main destination or the first point of entry if the applicant plans to visit multiple countries of the Zone during their trip.

There are several types of Belgium Schengen Visas based on the purpose of travel, such as:

Tourist isa: For individuals planning to visit Belgium for tourism, leisure, or to explore the country's cultural and historical attractions.

Business Visa: For those traveling to Belgium for business purposes, such as attending conferences, meetings, or business activities.

Visiting family and friends: This visa allows individuals to visit their family members or friends who are legal residents or citizens of Belgium.

Transit Visa: For travelers with a layover or a short stay in Belgium while traveling to another destination outside the Schengen Area.

Medical Visa: For individuals seeking medical treatment in Belgium.

Benefits of a Belgium visa for Filipino citizens

The Belgium Schengen Visa offers several benefits to Filipino citizens who wish to travel to Belgium and other Schengen Area countries. Some of the key benefits include:

Travel to multiple countries: With a Belgium Schengen Visa, Filipino citizens can visit Belgium and any other of the 26 Schengen Area countries without needing separate visas or border checks. This makes it easier and more convenient for travelers to explore multiple European destinations.

Ease of travel: Once granted a Schengen visa, Filipino citizens can enter and exit any Schengen country freely within the visa's validity period. This means they can travel within the Schengen Area without facing the hassle of border controls at internal borders.

Short-term stay: The Belgium Schengen Visa is typically issued for short-term stays, allowing Filipino citizens to visit Belgium and other Schengen countries for a maximum of 90 days within 180 days. This is ideal for tourists, business travelers, or those visiting family and friends.

Ease of application: The visa application process is relatively straightforward and streamlined when you apply with us.

Business opportunities: For Filipino business professionals, the Belgium Schengen Visa provides opportunities to attend conferences, trade fairs, business meetings, or explore potential business ventures in Belgium and other Schengen countries.

Cultural exploration: Belgium offers a rich cultural heritage with historical landmarks, art museums, and vibrant cities. The Schengen visa allows Filipino travelers to immerse themselves in Belgian culture and explore famous attractions like the Grand Place in Brussels, Bruges' medieval architecture, and Antwerp's diamond district.

Family visits: The visa allows Filipino citizens to visit family members and friends residing in Belgium, fostering personal connections and creating memorable experiences with loved ones.

Medical treatment: In case of medical emergencies or specialized medical treatment, the Schengen visa facilitates access to healthcare services in Belgium.

Education and research: The visa enables students and researchers from the Philippines to participate in short-term study programs, academic exchanges, or conferences in Belgium.

Filipino citizens must apply for the appropriate type of Belgium Schengen Visa based on their purpose of travel.

Apply early: Don't wait until the last minute. Apply for your visa at least 2-3 weeks before your intended travel date.

Complete documents: Prepare and submit all required documents. Double-check everything for completeness and accuracy.

Clear purpose of visit: Clearly state your purpose of visiting Belgium. The more specific you are, the better.

Sufficient funds: Show proof of having sufficient funds for your stay in the Schengen Area. This could be bank statements, income certificates, etc.

Insurance coverage: Secure travel insurance that covers at least 30,000 euros for medical emergencies and repatriation.

Interview preparation: Prepare for your visa interview. Be ready to answer your travel plans, accommodation, and financial capability questions.

Honesty is best: Be honest in all your dealings with the Belgian Embassy or Consulate. Any false information can lead to visa denial or future complications.

We streamline the visa application process and assist in filling out the application form correctly, ensuring all documents are in order, and giving you updates about your application status. Our expertise can increase the chances of a successful visa application.

Common reasons for Belgium Schengen Visa refusals in the Philippines

Incomplete documents: The absence of required documents or incomplete forms is one of the most common reasons for visa denial.

Lack of travel insurance: Failure to present valid travel insurance covering the whole Schengen Area can result in visa refusal.

Insufficient proof of financial means: Not providing sufficient evidence of having enough funds to support your stay in Belgium and the Schengen Area can result in a visa denial.

Invalid passport: If your passport is not valid for at least three months beyond your intended stay, your visa application may be denied.

Lack of proof of ties to home country: If you cannot prove strong ties to the Philippines, such as employment, property, or family ties, the consulate may deny your visa application due to suspicion of immigration intent.

Unclear purpose of visit: If you cannot clearly explain your purpose of visiting Belgium and the Schengen Area, your visa may be refused.

Remember that each application is unique, and these are general reasons. A specific case may have different circumstances affecting the application's outcome. We are here to help you avoid making these mistakes.

My Belgium Schengen Visa was denied. What should I do?

If your Belgium Schengen Visa application was denied, it's natural to feel disappointed and uncertain about what to do next. Here at iVisa, we recommend you follow these steps to rectify the situation:

Understand the reasons for denial: When a Schengen Visa application is rejected, the Belgium Embassy will provide a reason for the rejection. It is crucial to understand these reasons, as they will guide your next steps.

Address the issues: Depending on the reasons for denial, you may need to provide additional documentation, modify your travel plans, or clarify information on your application.

Appeal the decision: If you believe the decision was made in error and you have substantial proof to counter the reasons provided for the denial, you have the right to appeal. The process and deadline for appeals vary, so you'll need to verify this information with the embassy.

Reapply for the visa: If the reasons for the denial are clear and unarguable, your best course of action is to correct the issues and reapply for the visa. Keep in mind that you must pay the visa fee again when you reapply.

Remember, our team at iVisa is always ready to assist you in understanding the application process and providing guidance on enhancing your chances of a successful visa application.

Muslims usually spend the day visiting relatives and neighbours and accepting sweets as they move around from house to house.

Each country has traditional desserts and sweets that are prepared before Eid or on the morning of the first day.
