  • Validate your parking ticket

  • Filing primary and secondary insurance claims
  • Assisting with re-authorizations that may be required during treatment

Before your first appointment, ask your insurance company about specific requirements, co-pays, deductibles or other costs for which you will be responsible.

DISCLAIMER: MD Anderson Cancer Center's participation with any product or insurance plan is subject to change without notice. Additionally, insurance companies offer a variety of plans and may change the names and benefits at any point. A patient's level of coverage depends on the specific benefits outlined in their plan.

To ensure that MD Anderson hospital and physicians are in-network, it is the patient's responsibility to verify that MD Anderson is a participating provider and their benefit plan allows them access as of the day of a visit and/or admission.

Types of Charges

MD Anderson patient statements contain two separate billing components:

At MD Anderson, we understand how hard it can be to choose a hospital for cancer treatment. You've just received life-changing news, and now you have to decide how to handle it. Here are some of the reasons why MD Anderson is your best hope for cancer care.

We focus exclusively on cancer and have seen cases of every kind. Our doctors treat more rare cancers in a single day than most physicians see in a lifetime. That means you receive expert care no matter your diagnosis.

We're one of the largest cancer centers in the world. We've been working to eliminate cancer for more than seven decades. Our depth of experience contributes to every aspect of your care.

We have ranked as one of the top two hospitals in cancer care every year since U.S. News & World Report began its annual "America's Best Hospitals" survey in 1990.

Our physicians are frequently recognized as among the best in the nation by services including Best Doctors in America.

We have more nurses per patient than many hospitals in the country, so you receive the utmost attention and quality care.

We're world-renowned for using and developing front-line diagnostic technology. That lets physicians pinpoint each patient's unique cancer and tailor treatment for the best possible outcome.

Cutting-edge Research

One of our greatest strengths is our ability to translate today's most promising laboratory findings into tomorrow's new, more effective and less traumatic treatments. We've pioneered countless medical advances over the years. Our patients benefit from that quest by receiving not only the best treatments to minimize or eliminate their cancer, but those treatments that will also give them the best chance at a high quality of life afterwards.

New and innovative therapies generally are available at MD Anderson several years before they become standard in the community. Our clinical trials incorporate state-of-the-art patient care, while evaluating the most recent developments in cancer medicine. They also offer treatment opportunities for difficult or aggressive tumors.

MD Anderson ranks first in the number and amount of research grants awarded by the National Cancer Institute. By studying how cancer begins and responds to various treatments, we can help patients overcome disease and prevent recurrence.

Patient Support and Education

At MD Anderson, there's more to cancer care than medications and therapies. As a comprehensive cancer center, we offer support and educational programs that help you deal with emotional and physical effects of your disease and prepare for a healthier life after treatment. These include:

  • Integrative and complementary therapies: We provide therapies that help relieve pain and stress while promoting a sense of calm and well-being. Among these are yoga classes, meditation sessions, oncology massage, acupuncture and music therapy. Read more about our integrative and complementary therapies.
  • Counseling and support: From social workers to support groups to setting up one-on-one connections between cancer patients and survivors, our support programs help patients and caregivers through diagnosis, treatment and beyond you through your diagnosis and treatment. Learn more about our counseling and support programs.
  • Educational resources: From our onsite patient education libraries to our online Knowledge Center , we help patients and caregivers understand and deal with their diagnosis and treatment.
  • Lifestyle change support: Living a healthier life can make treatment more effective and prevent recurrence once treatment has ended. Our services include nutrition counseling, exercise and physical activity consultations and tobacco cessation programs .

Business | Rush partners with top-ranked MD Anderson, aiming to give patients more access to the latest cancer treatments

Rush University System for Health is teaming up with top-ranked University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center — a move that’s expected to give Rush patients better access to the latest cancer treatments and help Rush compete against other Chicago-area hospitals.

Under the partnership, which was announced Friday, Rush Cancer Center is being renamed Rush MD Anderson Cancer Center. Rush will retain ownership of its program. Neither leaders of Rush nor MD Anderson would discuss the financial details of the arrangement.

As part of the agreement, protocols and cancer treatment plans at Rush will mirror those available at MD Anderson. Rush patients will be able to participate in more clinical trials, and Rush doctors will be able to consult with MD Anderson doctors on treatment decisions, according to Rush.

“Rush has a top-rated cancer program … what we don’t have is the volume of clinical trials and access to genetic studies that MD Anderson brings,” Rush President and CEO Dr. Omar Lateef told the Tribune. “What we can do is … offer a broader diversity of treatment options to some patients that may qualify for cutting edge care that’s not otherwise available to those patients here in Chicago.”

Dr. Amina Ahmed, director of the Rush MD Anderson Cancer Center, said patients will benefit from the expertise of doctors at Rush and MD Anderson. For example, Rush doctors will be able to discuss particularly rare or complex cases with physicians at MD Anderson.

“There will be more clinical trials, there will be more novel treatments, there will be more expertise,” Ahmed said.

Rush is the seventh hospital in the country to partner with MD Anderson on its cancer program. MD Anderson has also partnered with hospitals and health systems in Louisiana, Indiana, Arizona, Florida, New Jersey, Texas and Colorado.

“Our commitment to eradicating cancer extends to eradicating cancer around the nation,” said Dr. Peter WT Pisters, president of MD Anderson, in an interview. “This is an ideal partnership that allows us to extend our mission into a very important market in the United States.”

The partnership is the latest move by a Chicago-area hospital to differentiate itself amid a competitive local health care landscape.

University of Chicago Medicine is in the process of building a new, more than $800 million cancer hospital in Hyde Park in hopes of giving patients on the South Side greater access to cancer care while attracting patients from across the region. University of Chicago Medical Center is ranked as the 16th best hospital for cancer care by U.S. News & World Report.

Meanwhile, U.S. News ranks Northwestern Memorial Hospital 18th in the nation for cancer care.

Rush is ranked 30th in the nation for cancer care, the third highest ranking in Illinois. U.S. News ranks MD Anderson Cancer Center as No. 1 in the country for cancer.

“Our mission is now really just to get the best outcomes for patients,” Lateef said. “Our relationship with MD Anderson will improve those outcomes by adding to the armamentarium of treatment protocols we can offer patients, primarily in that research and clinical trial area. I think it should enhance our overall rankings.”

Rush began talking with MD Anderson years ago, before the pandemic, about pursuing a partnership, and resumed those conversations “as we started coming out of the pandemic,” Lateef said.

Rush MD Anderson Cancer Center will provide care at multiple locations in the city and suburbs. In Chicago, that will include at Rush’s new Joan and Paul Rubschlager Building , and in the suburbs, at Rush Copley Medical Center in Aurora, Rush Oak Park Hospital and Rush Copley Healthcare Center in Yorkville.

Rush joins MD Anderson network of clinically affiliated systems

Rush

Rush University System for Health and the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center have partnered in a bid to increase access to cancer care in the Chicago area.

Chicago-headquartered Rush is the latest health system to join MD Anderson’s clinically affiliated network , the nonprofit providers announced Friday.

Related: Specialty health systems pursue mergers, partnerships

Through the partnerships, health systems undertake an MD Anderson-led certification process designed to establish the same protocol and treatment plans offered at the Houston-based cancer provider. Patients at select hospitals in these systems have access to MD Anderson's clinical trials and network of specialists.

The Rush-MD Anderson affiliation involves Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, Rush Oak Park Hospital in Chicago's western suburbs, Rush Copley Medical Center in Aurora, Illinois, and Rush Copley Healthcare Center in Yorkville, Illinois.

“Partnering with MD Anderson and their bold vision to be the premier cancer center in the world tells our patients that they can continue to expect the best possible care from Rush,” Rush President and CEO Dr. Omar Lateef said in a news release.

MD Anderson's clinical network also includes New Orleans-based Ochsner Health, Phoenix-based Banner Health and Jacksonville, Florida-based Baptist Health.

New York City-based Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center has  formed similar partnerships with provider organizations since 2013, and Duarte, California-based City of Hope is teaming up with academic health systems   through AccessHope, a startup it spun out in 2020.

Does MD Anderson have a shuttle service?

MD Anderson does have a shuttle service that patients and visitors can use. The shuttle service is free and operates from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week. The shuttle service is available for patients and visitors who are coming to MD Anderson for outpatient services, radiation therapy, or inpatient stays. The shuttle service is also available for visitors who are coming to MD Anderson for a special event, such as a cancer conference.

Where should I stay while being treated MD Anderson?

Houston is a large city with many different neighborhoods to choose from when looking for accommodations. When staying in Houston for medical treatment at MD Anderson, it is important to find a neighborhood that is close to the cancer center.

The Houston neighborhoods that are closest to MD Anderson are the Texas Medical Center, University of Houston, and Montrose. The Texas Medical Center is the largest medical center in the world and is home to MD Anderson. University of Houston is a short drive or bus ride away from the Texas Medical Center, and Montrose is a neighborhood in Houston that is known for its arts and culture.

There are many hotels in the Texas Medical Center and University of Houston areas, and there are also many Airbnb rentals available. If you are looking for a furnished room or apartment to rent for an extended period of time, the Montrose neighborhood is a good option.

No matter what neighborhood you choose to stay in, it is important to have a reliable way to get to MD Anderson for your treatments. The Houston MetroRail system has a stop at the Texas Medical Center, and there are also many bus routes that serve the area.

Does MD Anderson charge?

MD Anderson is a renowned cancer center that is known for its innovative treatments and cutting-edge research. One question that many people have is whether or not MD Anderson charges for its services.

The answer to this question is a bit complicated. MD Anderson does not charge patients directly for its services, but the center does rely on funding from various sources. This includes insurance companies, the government, and philanthropic donations.

It is important to note that MD Anderson does not turn away patients who cannot afford to pay for their care. The center provides financial assistance to those who need it.

Overall, MD Anderson is a world-class cancer center that provides its patients with access to some of the best care in the world. While the center does not charge patients directly, it does rely on funding from a variety of sources.

What airport do you fly into for MD Anderson?

If you’re flying in for treatment at MD Anderson, you’ll want to know which airport to fly into. MD Anderson is located in Houston, Texas, and the two main airports in the area are Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) and Houston’s Hobby Airport (HOU).

If you’re coming from out of state, IAH is likely your best bet. It’s larger and has more flight options, plus it’s only about a 30-minute drive from MD Anderson. HOU is smaller and has fewer flight options, but it’s closer to the cancer center and can be a bit cheaper to fly into.

No matter which airport you choose, be sure to allow plenty of time for traffic and long security lines. And remember, you’ll need to have your MD Anderson appointment information with you when you go through security.

How hard is it to get an appointment at MD Anderson?

MD Anderson is one of the world’s most renowned cancer hospitals, and as such, its appointments are in high demand. While it is possible to get an appointment without any prior notice, it is much more difficult to do so than at other hospitals.

Most patients are given appointments anywhere from two to six weeks in advance, and those in need of urgent care are typically seen within 24 hours. There are a few ways to increase your chances of getting an appointment sooner: being referred by another doctor, having a family member who has been a patient at MD Anderson, or being able to provide detailed information about your cancer.

If you are unable to get an appointment through MD Anderson’s regular channels, there are a few other options. The hospital does offer a limited number of same-day appointments, and patients can also try to get a spot through its walk-in clinic.

Does MD Anderson help with lodging?

When undergoing cancer treatment, patients often need to travel to receive care from specialists. For patients receiving care at MD Anderson, questions about lodging often arise. Does MD Anderson help with lodging?

The answer is a resounding yes. MD Anderson offers a number of resources to help patients and their families find accommodations near the cancer center.

The MD Anderson website offers a list of recommended hotels near the cancer center. The list includes a variety of price points and accommodations, so there is sure to be a hotel that fits the needs of each patient.

In addition to the list of recommended hotels, MD Anderson also offers a Lodging Assistance Program. This program helps patients and their families find and reserve a room at a hotel near the cancer center. The program is offered free of charge to patients and their families.

To take advantage of the Lodging Assistance Program, patients simply need to contact the hotel of their choice and provide the hotel with their MD Anderson patient ID number. The hotel will then work with MD Anderson to reserve the room and ensure that the patient receives the discounted rate.

MD Anderson also offers a Travel Assistance Program. This program provides patients and their families with assistance when booking airfare. The program offers a variety of services, including help finding the best airfare deal and booking flights.

The Travel Assistance Program is available to patients and their families free of charge. To take advantage of the program, patients simply need to contact MD Anderson’s Travel Assistance Team.

So, does MD Anderson help with lodging? The answer is a resounding yes. MD Anderson offers a variety of programs and resources to help patients and their families find and reserve a room at a hotel near the cancer center. These programs are available free of charge to patients and their families, so there is no reason to hesitate in reaching out for help.

Is MD Anderson better than Sloan Kettering?

The two most renowned cancer treatment centers in the United States are MD Anderson Cancer Center and Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Both centers have a long history of offering high-quality cancer treatment. So, which center is better?

MD Anderson Cancer Center is the largest cancer center in the world. It is located in Houston, Texas. MD Anderson Cancer Center offers a wide range of cancer treatments, including radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and surgery. The center also has a robust research program, which helps to develop new cancer treatments.

Sloan Kettering Cancer Center is located in New York City. It is smaller than MD Anderson Cancer Center, but it is also one of the most respected cancer centers in the world. Sloan Kettering Cancer Center offers a wide range of cancer treatments, including radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and surgery. The center also has a robust research program, which helps to develop new cancer treatments.

So, which center is better? It is hard to say. Both centers have a long history of offering high-quality cancer treatment. They both have a robust research program, which helps to develop new cancer treatments. And, they both offer a wide range of cancer treatments.
