One of the biggest challenges when it comes to RV life is limited space.

Soon after moving into an RV, we got sick of all the clutter, so we scoured the internet to find  the best RV storage ideas of all time.

In this post, you’ll learn how to organize your RV (or small space)  today  – and keep it that way!

5 RV Storage Tips Before You Begin…

1. Take Stock

Write down  everything  you have. I know, this is a monstrous task, but there really is no better way to organize your RV or small space than by knowing exactly what you have.

2. Purge the Useless Items

Do you really need 12 drinking cups and 20 plates? Unless you have a  huge  family, I doubt it. I’m a culprit, too. I have 3 pairs of sunglasses. I don’t  need  them, but… y’know. Everyone has those things they just don’t want to get rid of.

As fulltimers, we plan to get rid of everything we don’t use  at least  once per year. If you’re not  living in an RV , I recommend doing this after every RV trip.

3. Designate a Place for Everything

And I do mean  everything . Keys, your fly swatter, loose change, bike helmets, the RV trash can — you name it. It’s the only way you’ll ever get your RV to stay organized.

4. Use the “One In, One Out” Rule

This is a great way to stay on top of your organization goals. Anytime you bring something new into the RV, the old one should go out. For example…

If you bring a new sweater into the RV, an old sweater should be removed.

This rule will help you upgrade old stuff without keeping tons of unnecessary clutter.

5. Stick to a Cleaning Schedule

With a house that moves, you have to put everything away before you start your drive. However, when you stay in one spot for any length of time (we sometimes stay at one site for over a month), daily cleaning can be overlooked and clutter builds up. No amount of RV storage ideas will help you if you don’t develop a routine.

We have a daily morning routine of cleaning up after breakfast.

Once we’re finished eating in the morning, I like to take 20 minutes to wash the dishes and pick up anything lying around. By doing a small pickup session daily, the cleaning is more manageable and never becomes a huge hassle.

Now — on to the RV storage ideas!

RV Kitchen Space Saving Ideas

Here are a few RV space saving ideas:

1. Put a Free-Standing Drawer Unit in a Cupboard (Secure w/ Bungee)

RV space-saving cabinet drawer unit

These  cabinet-sized drawer units  are pricey, but if you have the money they can be one of the best ways to use RV cabinet space that may otherwise be wasted. Kayla and I don’t use them because of the price, but we’d love to have them if we had the extra money! Secure them with bungee cords to keep them from opening on the move.

2. Get an Over-The-Door or Door-Mounted RV Trash Can

RV trash can idea

An RV trash can on the floor takes up a lot of space… but you need a trash can. Trust me – I went weeks without a trash can in the RV and it’s a huge pain. This  over-the-door trash can  saves space and is totally out of the way!

3. Use Storage Bins in Your RV Shelves

Storage bins  are probably the number one most important piece of the RV organization puzzle. We have a dozen, and could probably use two dozen more. You can use them in cupboards, drawers, and in the outside storage compartments. Label them for bonus points!

4. Replace Your Tea Kettle with This Foldable One

RV space-saving collapsible tea kettle

Cookware can be the biggest space sucker of all the items in your RV. If you like to heat your water with a kettle, getting a collapsible  tea kettle  will save you a lot of room and headaches. You can also get  collapsible colanders  and even  collapsible pots !

5. Replace Mixing Bowls with Stackable Nesting Bowls

Save space in your RV shelves with stackable bowls

Nesting bowls  are a go-to RV space-saving idea. We basically stopped using bowls in the RV until we found these because they just take up so much room. One of those “bowls” is actually a colander, which is great.

6. Use Dish Cradles to Maximize RV Cabinet Space

Save space in your RV cabinets with dish cradles.

These are way up on our wish list. Stacking dishes vertically in a  dish cradle  makes them take up less space and, more importantly, makes it easier to get them out without needing to take anything off the top of them.

7. Install a Hanging Basket for Fruit

RV kichen organizer: hanging baskets

If you can find a spot to put a  hanging basket , they’re great. Kayla and I don’t really have anywhere we could put one, so unfortunately, we don’t have one.

8. Get a Roll-Up Sink Rack

RV kitchen space solution: roll up sink rack

Having an above-the-sink rack, rather than a countertop one, frees up that precious counter space.  This model  even rolls up for easy storage.

9. Install a Peg Board

RV space organizer: Pegboard

We don’t have a spot for one of these ourselves, but I wish we did. A  peg board  on the wall looks like a really cool, easy way to organize the unorganizable: pots and pans.

10. Buy Tons of Suction Cup Hooks

Save space in your RV without damaging walls by using suction cup hooks

The  suction cup hook  pictured above is from our shower, and this thing works wonders! I love anything you can use to hang stuff without putting holes anywhere because we’re planning on selling our RV when we’re done and want to keep its value.

11. Fruit Hammocks

If you’re like us and can’t find room for the hanging baskets, these  fruit hammocks  might work for you instead. I like them because the fruit ripens evenly so you don’t get spots over-ripened.

12. Paper Plate Dispenser

Organize your RV with a paper plate dispenser

Another item high on our wish list is this awesome  paper plate dispenser .

13. Fold Out Spice Rack

RV space solutions: Fold-out spice rack installed under a cupboard

14. Dangling Mason Jars

rv-storage-utilizer-mason-jars

This one’s cool, and affordable. Just get some  mason jars  and screw them into the ceiling to store small stuff!

15. Wall-Mounted Magnetic Strips

Organize your knives with a magnetic strip

A  wall-mounted magnetic strip  is high on our wishlist as a way to store our knives. Put them away while driving, though – you don’t want them to come flying off the wall if you crash!!

16. Magnetize Your Cutting Board to the Underside of a Cabinet

Save precious counter space with a magnetized cutting board

Get some magnets to install on the back of your cutting board, and a sheet of metal to install under your cupboard: Boom, your cutting board is organized and out of the way.

17. Use Curtain Tension Rods Vertically

Organize RV cupboards with curtain tension rods placed vertically

You’ve probably heard of using  curtain tension rods  in cupboards to keep things from falling out. But, have you thought of using them vertically to organize things? Try it out!

18. Over-The-Sink Shelf

If you can find a way to stabilize it, an  over-the-sink rack  will add some much-needed kitchen space.

19. Airtight Square Canisters

RV Square storage containers

Tupperware is one of the greatest things for storing food, but they can be hard to organize, to say the least. These  square canisters  (which are also airtight) are great for  maximizing your storage space !

Organize your spices with spice grippers

Like I said, spices can be a pain to organize. These are another item high on our wishlist –  spice gripper clips !

21. Magnetic Spice Holder (Use Caution!)

Camper storage saving magnetized spice rack

These are super popular, so I wanted to mention them. Just be wary of these  magnetized spice racks , because  Nikki Wynn from Gone With the Wynns  said they didn’t work well for her. Maybe she didn’t set it up right, but I’d rather not deal with spice all over my floor to find out.

22. Knife Safe by Camping World

Store knives with a knife safe by camping world

A good alternative to the magnetic strip for storing knives is the  knife safe by Camping World . I’m still not sure I would leave them in this while driving, though.

23. Food Dispensers

26. Divided Organizers

RV drawer and cupboard organizer: drawer divider

These  divided organizers  are another great way to save space. You can store drinkware, clothes, accessories, and more! You can create your own with a box and some cardboard dividers left over from packages if you want to be thrifty.

27. Use Towel Rods to Hold Pot Lids

Pot lids are the worst things to find space for. They are awkward and never sit right. Just use a  curtain rod  to hold them on the back of a cupboard!

32. Use Old Wipe Containers to Store Plastic Bags

RV space solution: re-purpose coffee creamer bottles to store food

If you’re a coffee lover like we are, you’ve probably thrown out a lot of coffee creamer bottles. Next time you find yourself running out of creamer, keep the bottle, clean it, and reuse it to store food! It takes up less space than most packaging.

57. remodel your bunkbed into a closet or office.

Travel Travel Storage Ideas

This is a travel trailer space saving idea since most motorhomes don’t have bunk beds. It can be annoying having space used for something you simply don’t need or want there. If you have a bunk bed, but don’t use it, you probably feel the same way.

If you’re feeling crafty, try  converting that space into an office  to get the most out of every square inch of your rig.

Over-the-door towel rack

Apart from the kitchen counter flaw, RVs never seem to have enough towel racks in the bathroom. A cheap and easy solution is over-the-door towel racks, which you can easily buy online or at department stores.

No drills, simply hang the hooks over the thickness of your bathroom door or shower.

Open storage compartments in an RV are never adequate, even if you are a minimalist. Hampers and closet organizers will help you effectively optimize space and keep things organized.

RV Closet organizers

These come in a variety of forms and shapes. Most are foldable for space saving and super lightweight. You should definitely get some foldable storage bin cubes, which you can stack up, and some hanging shelves with sturdy metal frames for separating your items into categories and for easy access.

Storage bin cubes usually come in packs of 4, 6 or 8 at $12 to typically under $30 for a pack. Hanging shelves can range from $13 to $30 for one.

If you are a neat freak, maybe grab some drawer dividers for underwear and thin summer clothes. When you don’t need them any more for your RV, they will always be useful in your home.

RV space saving hack

This is a super hand trick shared and loved by seasoned RVers. A huge plus is, it is very versatile and can be used for closets, kitchen cabinets and anything else. This RV storage ideas will help you find things more easily by categorizing and will keep them from tumbling to the side on top of each other. No doubt it is also a super popular household storage hack.

All you need is one of those cheap, commercially-available cloth shoe storage racks, some scissors, and some velcro… and you’ve got an amazingly versatile storage hack to add anywhere in your RV you see fit. Some choice spots include along the base of the bed in the master or on the sides of your RV couch.

RV Storage Ideas

RV Storage Ideas: Kitchen

Cooking on your own on longer trips is essential regarding both your budget and health. This is why every RV storage ideas list includes a number of kitchen organization tips and portable accessories.

A lack of counter space can sometimes be a problem in RVs. One simple hack is to make a DIY stove cover or sink cover to give you more space for prep. A sink cover could even double as a chopping board – you can simply cut a wooden chopping board to fit.

RV kitchen hack

Many RV DIYers have also added to their countertops by creating their own simple fold-out extensions, which will hang down or slide into existing cabinets when not in use.

Fruit bowls are lovely displays, of course — why else would so many artists immortalize them in still life paintings?

But when you’re on the road, those carefully-arranged apples and bananas can quickly take to flying through the air if you forget to stow them away when you’re ready to pick up camp and move on. All to say nothing of the fact that your beautiful bowl takes up precious kitchen counter space, which you probably don’t have too much of to spare.

fruit hammock RV hack

Our favorite solution to this potentially-sticky problem? A fruit hammock! Not only does it save you space, but it also helps your fruit last longer by providing gentle ventilation that won’t bruise or crush. And yeah, it looks pretty neat, too.

Think about it, how much more food can you fit into your rig’s tiny kitchen if the storage containers you use all fit neatly together? It’s definitely a lot more than you’ll be able to pack in if you’re using round or otherwise irregularly-shaped containers.

The trick here is only opting for square plastic containers that are stackable and preferably by the same brand so you can organize them neatly like Legos.

A good set of airtight food containers can help you keep leftovers and dry goods fresh for longer than they’d stay in a bag or box, as well as allowing you to pack more of it into your RV’s kitchen cabinets and refrigerator. You can even look into smaller, single-serving containers made specifically for meal prep.

A multi-functional cooker will save you space on your small RV by combining typically 7 kitchen appliances in 1, including: pressure cooker, slow cooker, rice cooker, steamer, sauté, yogurt maker, and warmer.

The most user-friendly, reliable and affordable cooker is arguably the Instant Pot Duo Mini 7-in-1 Electric, which costs $60. It receives a 4.5 overall rating from almost 50,000 positive reviews on Amazon, making it the absolute best seller.

This might not sound super grand, but is one of those RV hacks you will love more and more the longer you spend on the roads. Towing on bumpy roads can cause annoying rattling and worse, your cutlery can fall off the shelves and brake.

A favourite cutlery protector by full-time RVers is the Camco Stack-A-Plate, which costs $10 for a pack of 2, one small and one big.

RV cutlery protector

Stacking dishes vertically in a dish cradle makes them take up less space and, more importantly, makes it easier to get them out without needing to take anything off the top of them.

A peg board on the wall looks like a really cool, easy way to organize the unorganizable: pots, pans, cups, mugs and utensils. Peg boards are used in supermarkets and department stores as they offer easily customizable solutions for organizing shelves.

RV space saving kitchen

You can use your creativity with this super versatile and easy-to-work-with material to organize your working station and wardrobe – with different kinds of hooks, the possibilities are endless. You can use many peg boards of appropriate sizes for any intended spaces.

While you’re on it, getting some organizers for your fridge would also prevent rattling and things knocked over as well as maximizing space. These plastic containers make it easy to look for, pull out and put back things and importantly, keep your produce fresh.

If you’re an avid chef, you know how important it is that the blade matches the purpose. But when you’ve got several knives on hand, it can be difficult to find a way to fit them all in your RV’s kitchen drawers… and big, clunky knife block is right out of the question.

Magnetic knife holder

Magnetic knife strips are a great way to keep your knives handy, out of the way, and also as sharp as possible, since they won’t be clanging around with other silverware in your drawer. Just make sure they’re well-adhered before you take off for a new campsite — you definitely don’t want those guys flying around inside your coach!

Another creative application of wall mounted magnetic strips is a magnetic spice rack. This is a great way to keep your flavors close at hand, out of the way and easy to access.

This spice rack can be installed right under a cabinet and will save tons of RV cabinet and counter space .

Fold Out Spice Rack

Honestly, using magnetized storage is one of our very favorite space saving ideas, both in an RV or a sticks-and-bricks home. You can find all kinds of neat magnetic storage solutions, like this all-in-one paper towel and utensil organizer by Great Circle. Just make sure it’s good and solid before you put, as they do in the photo, something as heavy as a full wine bottle into the caddy. And don’t forget, if you don’t have room on your RV refrigerator (or if it isn’t magnetic), you can always install magnetic strips on your RV’s walls!

RV magnetic fridge shelf

By now you should have noticed a clear pattern in any list of RV storage ideas: in a small space, try to optimize vertical space. That is, hang everything that you can hang. Plus, surely in the settings of an RV, anything hung must be secured for safety and organizational purposes.

If you’ve got the extra room on your RV’s walls, you can make your quest for food storage accessories like aluminum foil and cling wrap even easier by mounting the rolls of aluminum foil and saran wrap on the wall. Crazy easy and useful, right? A great idea from Anna Moseley over at Ask Anna.

RV kitchen roll hangers

One of the simplest ways to maximize the limited space inside your RV kitchen cabinets actually has nothing to do with retrofitting more shelving or finding clever ways to mount magnetic objects.

It’s actually as simple as purchasing pots, pans, and other cookware items that were made to fit in as little space as possible, such as this space-saving six-piece set.

The $299 price tag might seem steep, but as long as you take care of them, pots and pans really only need to be purchased once. And by choosing a single, stacking set like this (as opposed to just bringing along whichever pieces from home you feel like), you’ll capitalize on your RV’s kitchen space and buy yourself more room to store other goodies — like, you know, actual food!

Not in the market for a whole new set of cookery? We get it. Fortunately, there are less-expensive ways to achieve more or less the same result.

A simple kitchen cabinet organizer can help keep unruly pans and lids at bay, both increasing your usable storage space and making it way easier to find the piece you’re actually looking for. And at less than $15, it’s a far cry from purchasing a whole new set!

If you have OCD or are willing to spend extra money for effortless access to your kitchenware, there is probably nothing better out there than pull-out cabinet organizers and under-sink organizers. Depending on your needs, take your pick among pull-out drawers, lid organizers, cookware and bakeware organizers. Each type is specially designed to best store different types of kitchenware safely and offers instant access while maximizing space.

Pull-out cabinet organizers

For instance, cookware organizers feature strong heavy-duty adjustable dividers, so that you can customize to securely hold the different sizes and styles of pots and pans. Bakeware and cutting board organizers typically have tall dividers to keep everything organized, separated and easy to access. Meanwhile, lids organizers feature  loop dividers to securely hold pan lids of all sizes and styles.

Pot lids are the worst things to find space for. They are awkward and never sit right. Alternative to the above lids organizer, you can just use a curtain rod to hold them on the back of a cupboard.

Here’s a way to keep your kitchen goodies separated and secure that’s both super-cheap and fully customizable. Instead of buying a wire cabinet organizer, try a pack of tension rods, the kind you might use for window curtains.

A pack of six will run you about $15 on Amazon, and you can easily install and reinstall to your heart’s content. Install them vertically to safely store cutting boards, trays, baking trays, baking sheets … for easy access.

Cooking in your RV is one thing, but clean-up can be a whole different ball game. After all, you most likely aren’t packing a dishwasher, even in the most luxurious of rigs… and you can only fit so much into even the most generous of kitchen sinks.

roll up dish drying rack

Taking up counter space with a traditional drying rack could spell disaster if you forget to put things up before you pull out of camp, and besides, even the folding ones are pretty unwieldy to store. That’s why the new-generation roll-up dish racks are often featured as one of the most revolutionary RV storage ideas these days.

Just unroll it over your sink to allow your dishes to drip dry, and then curl it back up tight when it’s time to store it and move on. These racks are typically made with stainless steel rods coated entirely with food-grade silicone, which keeps the rack completely slip-free and heat-resistant. The anti-bacterial silicone coating means cleaning will be a breeze.

In addition to dinnerware, you can use these racks when washing and drying vegetables and fruits. Super simple, super versatile, super space-saving and it’ll only cost you from $18 to about $22 for a high quality silicone rack.

Over-cabinet-door organizer

A version of the highly versatile over-the-door home organizers, you can further optimize vertical space by hanging these wire baskets over your cabinet doors. You can hand them either outside or inside, to easily access items that you frequently reach for, such as cling wraps, baking sheets, aluminum foil… They also offer an ideal place to leave cutting boards, baking sheets and baking trays out to dry.

Garbage is a smelly problem even in the best of circumstances and that goes double when you’re traveling in the tight quarters of an RV. A traditional garbage can not only allows obnoxious odors into your rig’s coach, but also takes up precious floor space. Definitely not ideal as no one wants to look at their garbage all day.

These convenient over-cabinet-door garbage baskets are perfect for RVing. They keep your garbage out of sight, out of mind, and — most importantly — out from underfoot. Of course, you can use these over-the-door baskets for almost anything.

They’re small, but in a rig, you’ll be wanting to take out your garbage pretty frequently anyway. And they’re cheap so that you can easily invest in a few for the kitchen and a few for the bathroom.

Under-sink drawer

These cabinet-sized drawer units are on the pricey side, but if you have the money they can be one of the best ways to use RV cabinet space that may otherwise be wasted. Secure them with bungee cords to keep them from opening on the move.

They’re great for packing extra dry goods into your kitchen, but you can also use them in the bathroom or bedroom for clothes, towels, and more. These baskets are hugely popular in households and are among the most affordable yet versatile organizing solutions for small spaces like rented apartments.

under-shelf baskets

Yes, hang them all! You might be surprised by how much space is available when adding up a little bit of under-shelf space here and there. And more under-shelf RV storage ideas means more counter space freed up for prepping and cooking.

Surely you must store them away while the wheels are rolling, but these hooks offer a quick solution for drying them without taking a lot of precious kitchen counter space.

Under-shelf hooks holder

One area of RV storage ideas has nothing to do with the internal space of an RV, but creatively deals with the external space. The roof and the back of a motorhome offer a lot of space for mounting those bulky gears like paddle boards, kayaks, bicycles and camping gears.

Another hack to increase the forever-limited storage capacity on your RV is to add an external mount to the rear of the vehicle . Bicycles and kayaks are the most common items that you will see.

RV mount

In addition, you could also use an external mount to stow extra fresh water tanks or waste containers. Some full-time RVers even stow a whole little greenhouse for their RV-grown fresh produce, or an outdoors kitchen. Yes, that is one hell of a creative RV storage ideas. Extra space will allow you to take on plenty of cool DIY projects for amazing upgrades, helping you get the best out of your RV living .

Showering outdoors in good weather is a perk of the RV life. For a bit of fun, or if you do not have enough space for a shower in your small RV, or many people are sharing one bathroom, which is often the case, you can fit your own outdoor shower on the side of your vehicle.

An outside shower will prevent the interior of your RV from extra moisture and is useful for getting the mud off from your trekking trip before you go inside. Make your own privacy screen for your outdoors shower using a shower curtain and wire or piping is a fun and not too challenging project.

Check out the best RV shower head units here !

If you’re traveling with your family, there might not be a comfortable space for dining inside the RV. Plus, a huge perk of RV camping is dining outdoor while enjoying nature, which also keeps your RV fresh and free of odors.

If you love staying outdoors in great weather, an RV awning is a must. An awning can provide shade and help save money on cooling in hot summer weather. It can also provide a shaded place to dine, enjoy a drink or read outside your RV.

If you don’t want to invest in a commercial awning, there are many guides, including videos, within the RV community on how to make your own awning by up-cycling the material from an old tent, or even old umbrellas. A curtain rod and simple pulley system plus some craftsmanship will provide reliable support for your awning.

RV Storage Ideas: Others

You’ve got your cell phone, notebook, reading glasses, whatever it is you’re actually reading… and soon, you’ve got a great big mess right alongside your bed.

At home, you might be able to just stuff it all in the nightstand and forget about it. But depending on the design of your RV, you may not have a convenient nightstand junk drawer… or any nightstand at all!

Bedside portable caddy

A portable, caddy-style organizer not only offers extra room and encourages you to keep things separated and easy to find, but you can also simply pick it up and tote it along with you to the living room, or wherever.

Another “over-something” RV storage ideas. If you’re in a travel trailer rather than a motorhome, you spend a lot of time in your tow vehicle — and it can get cluttered just as quickly as your cabin can. That’s especially true if you’re traveling with kids, who have to bring along their whole playpen in order to endure the long driving hours of a typical camping road trip.

These backseat car organizers can help keep everything you and your family needs within reach, without having it be spread all over the backseat itself. Even if you’re not traveling with kids, it’s an easy and affordable way to extend your RV’s storage space, especially for items that you don’t need every single day inside the coach itself.

Over-the-seat caddies

Command hooks might top the list of those RV storage ideas that seasoned RVers everywhere would universally agree on. They are not only useful in RV settings but are hugely popular in the homes as well, thanks to their versatility, easy installation and damage-free removal.

Yes, in case you haven’t heard of this magical creation, these hooks are designed so that you can remove them safely without stripping the paint on your wall or doors. The mechanism is simple: it sticks on surfaces by a thick adhesive. To remove, pull the end of the adhesive that sticks out vertically downward and do so very slowly.

The adhesive is made from a material that is stretchy and strong, so when you pull it correctly, it would not break but instead stretch to the point where it comes off the surface clean and damage-free.

Same mechanism with command hooks and also damage-free, command strips are just like velcros – each consists of one hook strip and one loop strip, both with adhesive on the back. Stick one trip to the wall and stick the remaining strip to anything that you need to secure on a surface.

Got a habit of losing the TV remote? Just a small command strip on an unassuming side of your RV couch can help you keep those zappers close at hand at all times.

These strips are very handy for securing small items that you often reach for but are easily lost. They also work wonders in case you want to secure something to a surface to avoid it rolling around or getting knocked on the floor while your RV is on the move.

Wire magazine rack are lightweight and can easily be mounted on walls, doors and cabinets sides. You can use them to store anything.

Keeping shoes near the RV entrance is a good idea. The best solution is to mount a regular over-the-door shoe organizer with pockets on the door. You can easily cut the pocket organizer into smaller pieces to fit your door.

Collapsible ottomans are great for adding extra storage and utility at the same time. When not in use, just collapse them and put them away.

vacuum sealed bags

If you’re bringing extra pillows, blankets, or clothes with you in the RV, these vacuum-sealed bags are an excellent way to keep them fresh and save space. The cheaper version is simply a zipper bag, where you roll the bag with, say, a blanket in it to force the air out, then zip it close.

Needless to say this version is far less effective than a kit that comes with a vacuum. If you travel a lot, it’s best to invest in a decent kit with reusable bags and a vacuum. Otherwise, a pro trick is to turn the hairdryer around and place the intake valve into the neck of the bag, then turn on the hairdryer while minimizing any opening. The air will be sucked out of the zip bag.

Utilize Vertical Space

Install Wall-Mounted Organizers : Take advantage of your RV’s walls by installing various wall-mounted organizers. Consider options like pegboards, magnetic boards, or grid panels that provide versatile storage solutions. These organizers allow you to hang and display items such as kitchen utensils, small appliances, or office supplies. By keeping frequently used items within easy reach, you can save valuable counter and cabinet space.

Use Hanging Hooks and Racks : Adhesive hooks or removable wall hooks are excellent for creating storage space on the walls, doors, or even the inside of cabinet doors. Hang items like hats, keys, or small bags to keep them easily accessible. You can also utilize hooks in the bathroom to hang towels or robes. Additionally, invest in rack systems that can be mounted on walls or doors to store items like shoes, cleaning supplies, or pantry items.

Install Wire Baskets or Shelves : Wire baskets or shelves are great additions to vertical storage solutions. Attach them to the walls or inside cabinets to store items like fruits and vegetables, spices, cleaning supplies, or toiletries. Wire baskets allow air circulation, keeping produce fresh, and providing easy visibility of the contents. Utilize them in the bathroom to hold towels or in the bedroom to store accessories.

Hang Shoe Organizers : Shoe organizers with clear pockets are not just for shoes! They can be incredibly versatile storage solutions in an RV. Hang them on the back of doors or on the walls to store a variety of small items. Use the pockets to hold toiletries, cleaning supplies, electronics, kitchen tools, or even craft supplies. The clear pockets make it easy to find what you need quickly.

Utilize Cabinet Doors : Make the most of the space behind your cabinet doors by installing organizers specifically designed for the inside of doors. These can include spice racks, lid holders, or door-mounted shelves. Spice racks keep your spices organized and easily accessible while maximizing cabinet space. Lid holders prevent pot and pan lids from getting jumbled and take up minimal space. Door-mounted shelves are perfect for storing items like cutting boards, baking sheets, or cleaning supplies.

Attach Magnetic Strips : Magnetic strips are a fantastic way to utilize vertical space in the kitchen or any other area of your RV. Install them on the inside of cabinets or on the walls to hold metal items such as knives, scissors, can openers, or small tools. This keeps your frequently used items within reach and frees up drawer or countertop space. Magnetic strips can also be used to secure spice jars, small metal containers, or even kitchen gadgets.

Consider Fold-Down Tables and Beds : Fold-down tables and beds are excellent space-saving options that utilize vertical space effectively. These furniture pieces can be mounted on the walls and folded up when not in use, creating additional floor space. Fold-down tables serve as dining areas, workstations, or entertainment centers, while fold-down beds provide comfortable sleeping arrangements. Choose models with built-in storage compartments or shelves for added convenience.

Don’t Forget about Overhead Cabinets : Overhead cabinets often have unused vertical space. Make the most of this area by using stackable containers or adjustable shelves. Optimize space by storing lightweight items such as clothing, bedding, or camping gear in clear storage bins or vacuum-sealed bags. Label the containers for easy identification, and consider using fabric storage bins to prevent rattling and protect delicate items.

By implementing these vertical storage ideas in your RV, you can maximize your available space and keep your belongings organized and easily accessible. Be creative and adapt these suggestions to fit your specific needs, making your RV feel more spacious and functional.

Optimize Cabinet Storage

Utilize Stackable Storage Containers : Stackable storage containers are a practical solution for maximizing cabinet space in your RV. Choose containers that are specifically designed for compact spaces and come in various sizes to fit different cabinets. These containers help you make the most of vertical space by stacking them securely on top of each other. Group similar items together, such as cooking supplies, pantry items, or toiletries, and label each container for easy identification.

Install Adjustable Shelving Units : Adjustable shelving units are a versatile option for optimizing cabinet storage. They allow you to customize the spacing between shelves based on your specific needs. By maximizing the vertical space inside your cabinets, you can create additional storage levels for plates, bowls, cups, or food containers. Adjustable shelves are also beneficial in maximizing pantry storage, enabling you to store canned goods, snacks, or spices efficiently.

Utilize Bins or Baskets : Bins or baskets are excellent for organizing smaller items within your cabinets. They can be used to group similar items together, such as cooking utensils, cleaning supplies, or miscellaneous items. Opt for transparent bins or baskets to easily identify the contents without having to search through each one. Use labels or tags on the bins to further enhance organization and ensure everything has a designated spot.

Use Tension Rods for Securing Items : Tension rods are an ingenious way to prevent items from shifting and falling within your cabinets while in transit. Install tension rods vertically inside cabinets to secure items such as cutting boards, baking sheets, or trays. This keeps them upright and organized, ensuring they’re easily accessible when needed. Tension rods are adjustable, easy to install, and removable, making them a convenient storage solution.

Incorporate Door-Mounted Storage : Don’t overlook the inside of cabinet doors for additional storage opportunities. Utilize door-mounted storage solutions such as spice racks, wire racks, or pocket organizers. Spice racks can hold not only spices but also small condiment bottles or cooking oils. Wire racks are perfect for storing lightweight items like plastic wrap, aluminum foil, or sandwich bags. Pocket organizers can be used to store small items like measuring spoons, snack bags, or kitchen utensils.

Use Drawer Organizers : Make the most of your cabinet drawers by incorporating drawer organizers. These can be compartmentalized trays or adjustable dividers that keep items separated and easily accessible. Drawer organizers are ideal for utensils, cooking tools, cutlery, or even small pantry items like tea bags or sweeteners. They help maximize drawer space and prevent items from sliding around during travel.

Consider Pull-Out Cabinet Shelves : Pull-out cabinet shelves are an efficient storage solution, especially for lower cabinets. These shelves slide out, providing easy access to items stored in the back without having to reach and rummage through. Pull-out shelves are particularly useful for pots, pans, mixing bowls, or small appliances. By utilizing pull-out shelves, you can maximize the available space in your cabinets and enhance organization.

Utilize Cabinet Doors for Storage : The inside of cabinet doors offers valuable space for additional storage. Install hooks, clips, or racks on the inside of the doors to hang items like measuring cups, oven mitts, or dish towels. This keeps frequently used items easily accessible and frees up space inside the cabinets. You can also use adhesive hooks to hang lightweight items such as cooking utensils or small cutting boards.

By implementing these cabinet storage optimization techniques in your RV, you can efficiently utilize the available space and keep your belongings organized. Customize these ideas to fit the specific layout and dimensions of your cabinets, ensuring a clutter-free and functional RV experience.

Create Under-Bed Storage

Invest in Under-Bed Storage Containers : Utilizing the space beneath your RV’s bed is an excellent way to create additional storage. Invest in under-bed storage containers that are specifically designed for compact spaces. Choose containers that are sturdy, stackable, and have latching lids to keep your belongings secure. Opt for clear containers to easily identify the contents without the need to open each one. These containers are ideal for storing bedding, clothing, shoes, or seasonal items that you don’t need on a daily basis.

Use Vacuum-Sealed Bags : Vacuum-sealed storage bags are a game-changer when it comes to under-bed storage in your RV. They allow you to compress bulky items like bedding, clothing, or pillows, reducing their volume significantly. Place the items in the bag, seal it, and use a vacuum cleaner to remove the excess air. Vacuum-sealed bags not only save space but also protect your belongings from moisture, dust, and pests. Store these compacted bags under the bed for easy access and maximum space utilization.

Consider Slide-Out Drawers : If your RV bed is raised on a platform, consider installing slide-out drawers underneath. These drawers can be custom-built or purchased as ready-made units. Slide-out drawers provide easy access to items stored underneath the bed, and you can use them to store a variety of items like shoes, folded clothing, blankets, or even pantry supplies. Ensure the drawers are securely attached to the bed frame and have locking mechanisms to prevent them from sliding out during travel.

Use Soft-Sided Storage Bags : Soft-sided storage bags are another space-saving option for under-bed storage. These bags are flexible, lightweight, and can easily fit into tight spaces. They are perfect for storing items like clothing, bedding, or camping gear. Look for bags with sturdy handles for easy retrieval and consider using fabric storage bags to prevent any potential scratching or damage to your belongings.

Create Dividers or Sections : To maximize the under-bed storage area, consider creating dividers or sections within the space. This can be achieved by using sturdy cardboard, plastic bins, or even repurposed storage containers. By creating divisions, you can separate different types of items and keep them organized. This is particularly useful for separating shoes, clothing, or seasonal items, making it easier to find what you need without rummaging through everything.

Label and Organize : To ensure efficient use of the under-bed storage space, label your storage containers or bags. This will make it easier to find specific items without needing to open every container. Use adhesive labels, color-coded tags, or clear pockets to keep track of what’s stored under the bed. Additionally, consider organizing items by category or season to further streamline the retrieval process.

Use Sliding Storage Trays : Sliding storage trays or bins are a convenient option for under-bed storage. These trays can be mounted on casters or slides, allowing them to slide out from under the bed with ease. Sliding storage trays provide accessibility to your belongings, even if they are stored towards the back of the bed. You can use these trays to store items like shoes, extra blankets, or even camping equipment.

Utilize Space Bags or Hanging Storage : If your RV has limited space between the bottom of the bed and the floor, consider utilizing vacuum-sealed space bags or hanging storage solutions. Space bags are similar to vacuum-sealed bags but are designed to compress items vertically. Hanging storage can include fabric or mesh pockets that can be attached to the underside of the bed frame. These options are ideal for storing lightweight items like clothing, shoes, or small accessories.

By implementing these under-bed storage ideas in your RV, you can optimize the available space and keep your belongings organized and easily accessible. Tailor these suggestions to fit the specific dimensions of your bed and customize them according to your storage needs. Efficient under-bed storage will help maximize your living space and keep your RV clutter-free.

Overhead Storage Solutions

Hanging Net Organizers : Hanging net organizers are a versatile and lightweight solution for maximizing overhead storage space in your RV. These nets can be easily attached to the ceiling or walls and are perfect for storing lightweight items such as pillows, blankets, soft toys, or even clothing. They keep these items off the floor and prevent them from taking up valuable seating or walking space. Choose nets with multiple compartments or adjustable hooks to accommodate various items.

Cargo Nets and Bungee Cord Systems : Cargo nets and bungee cord systems are excellent options for securing larger or irregularly shaped items in your RV’s overhead compartments. These storage solutions utilize elastic cords or nets that can be stretched across the storage area, creating a secure barrier to prevent items from shifting during travel. Use them to hold items like sporting equipment, folding chairs , beach umbrellas, or other bulky gear. Ensure the nets or cords are properly anchored and tight to maintain the integrity of the storage area.

Adjustable Bungee Cord Systems : Similar to cargo nets, adjustable bungee cord systems offer flexibility in securing various items in the overhead storage compartments of your RV. These systems typically consist of a grid or mounting panel with multiple attachment points and adjustable bungee cords. You can secure items of different sizes and shapes, such as camping gear, tools, or even lightweight bins or boxes. The adjustable nature of these systems allows you to customize the configuration based on your storage needs.

Custom-Made Shelves or Cubbies : Consider installing custom-made shelves or cubbies in the overhead storage spaces of your RV. These can be specifically designed to fit the dimensions of your storage compartments, ensuring maximum utilization of the available space. Shelves can be used to store items like books, board games, or electronic devices, while cubbies can hold smaller items like travel-sized toiletries, first aid supplies, or kitchen essentials. Utilize dividers or bins within the shelves or cubbies to keep items organized and prevent them from shifting.

Removable Baskets or Containers : Opt for removable baskets or containers that fit snugly into the overhead storage compartments. These containers make it easier to access and retrieve items when needed. Look for containers with handles or grips for convenient removal and replacement. Choose stackable containers to maximize vertical space and ensure they are lightweight to prevent any strain on the overhead compartments. Label the containers for easy identification of their contents.

Overhead Cabinets with Doors : If your RV has overhead cabinets with doors, consider organizing the storage space within them more effectively. Install adjustable shelves or use stackable storage bins to make the most of the vertical space. Use bins or baskets to group similar items together, such as kitchen supplies, cleaning products, or travel essentials. Additionally, utilize door-mounted organizers or hooks to hang smaller items like keys, sunglasses, or charging cables.

Luggage Racks or Overhead Hooks : If your RV has an area near the ceiling specifically designated for luggage storage, take advantage of it by using luggage racks or overhead hooks. These racks or hooks provide a convenient spot to hang bags or backpacks, freeing up floor space and keeping them easily accessible. Ensure that the racks or hooks are securely fastened to prevent any accidents or damage during travel.

Use Lightweight and Compact Items : When utilizing overhead storage, it’s important to consider weight restrictions. Opt for lightweight and compact items to prevent placing excessive strain on the storage compartments. Choose collapsible or foldable items like chairs, tables, or travel-sized equipment that can be easily stored and don’t take up excessive space. Lightweight bins, baskets, or storage containers also help keep the weight down while maximizing storage capacity.

Use Vacuum-Sealed Bags

Space-Saving Solution : Vacuum-sealed bags are a space-saving marvel when it comes to RV storage. These bags allow you to compress bulky items like clothing, bedding, towels, or pillows, reducing their volume significantly. By removing excess air from the bags, either through a vacuum cleaner or by using a manual air valve, you can shrink the size of the items, making them more compact and easier to store in your limited RV space.

Protection from Moisture and Dust : One of the advantages of vacuum-sealed bags is their ability to protect your belongings from moisture and dust. The airtight seal created by the bags prevents moisture from entering and damaging your clothing or bedding. This is particularly beneficial in an RV where humidity levels can fluctuate, and dust can accumulate quickly. Vacuum-sealed bags keep your items clean, dry, and free from musty odors.

Easy Identification : Many vacuum-sealed bags are transparent, allowing you to easily identify the contents without having to open each bag. This makes it convenient to locate specific items without rummaging through a pile of bags. Consider labeling the bags with their contents or using color-coded labels to further enhance organization and quick retrieval.

Efficient Use of Under-Bed Storage : Under-bed storage in an RV is often limited, but vacuum-sealed bags are the perfect solution for maximizing this space. Bedding, pillows, extra blankets, or out-of-season clothing can all be neatly packed into vacuum-sealed bags and stored under the bed. The reduced volume of the items allows you to fit more into the available space, freeing up other areas of your RV for additional storage.

Protection for Delicate Fabrics : Vacuum-sealed bags are especially useful for storing delicate fabrics that are susceptible to wrinkles or damage. Items like formal attire, dresses, or suits can be safely stored in these bags, ensuring they remain in pristine condition until needed. The compression provided by the bags prevents fabrics from shifting and minimizes the chances of creasing or wrinkling during transit.

Organize by Category or Season : Take advantage of vacuum-sealed bags to organize your belongings by category or season. Pack similar items together, such as winter clothing, summer outfits, or beach towels, in separate bags. This not only helps in efficient use of space but also makes it easier to locate specific items when the need arises. Keep a list or inventory of the items stored in each bag to quickly find what you need without unpacking everything.

Ideal for Outdoor Gear : If you have outdoor gear like sleeping bags, tents, or camping equipment, vacuum-sealed bags are a great storage option. These bags provide a compact and space-efficient way to store your gear while protecting them from moisture and dust. Not only does this keep your RV organized, but it also ensures your outdoor equipment is in good condition and ready for your next adventure.

Perfect for Travelers with Limited Storage : For RV travelers who have limited storage space, vacuum-sealed bags are a game-changer. Whether you’re embarking on a long-term trip or living in your RV full-time, these bags allow you to maximize every inch of available storage. They provide a practical solution for storing clothing, bedding, towels, and other items without compromising on space or organization.

When using vacuum-sealed bags, ensure you follow the manufacturer’s instructions for proper usage and sealing. Additionally, be mindful of weight restrictions in your RV to prevent overloading the storage areas. With careful packing and the use of vacuum-sealed bags, you can efficiently utilize your RV’s storage space and keep your belongings organized and protected.

They come in different sizes and styles, including hitch-mounted cargo carriers or roof-mounted cargo boxes. Cargo carriers are ideal for storing bulkier items such as camping gear, folding chairs, or extra luggage. Ensure that the cargo carrier is properly secured to your RV and consider weight restrictions to maintain stability and safety while on the road.

Roof Racks : Roof racks are versatile storage options that allow you to transport larger items on the roof of your RV. These racks can hold items like kayaks , paddleboards, surfboards, or even a roof-mounted cargo box. Roof racks provide additional storage space without interfering with the interior living area of your RV. It’s essential to properly secure and distribute the weight of the items to maintain stability while driving.

Storage Compartments : Some RVs come equipped with built-in external storage compartments. These compartments are located underneath the RV or in specific areas on the sides. They are designed to store larger items like camping equipment, outdoor furniture, or tools. Take advantage of these compartments by organizing items in bins or using storage containers that fit the space efficiently. Labeling the containers can help you quickly locate specific items when needed.

Hitch-Mounted Storage Boxes : Hitch-mounted storage boxes are a convenient option if you have a hitch receiver on the back of your RV. These boxes attach to the hitch and provide additional storage space without occupying the interior or exterior of your RV. They are suitable for storing items like outdoor gear, sporting equipment, or even extra supplies. Hitch-mounted storage boxes should be securely fastened and regularly checked for stability during travel.

Ladder-Mounted Storage Solutions : Many RVs come with built-in ladders on the back or sides. You can make use of this ladder by installing ladder-mounted storage solutions. These may include hooks, clips, or brackets designed to hang various items like folding chairs, outdoor rugs, or hoses. Ladder-mounted storage solutions free up floor space and keep frequently used outdoor items easily accessible.

Portable Storage Sheds : For long-term RVers or those who have a dedicated parking spot, portable storage sheds are an option worth considering. These sheds are freestanding structures that provide extra storage space outside of your RV. They are available in different sizes and materials, and you can use them to store items that aren’t frequently needed during your trips. Portable storage sheds offer protection from the elements and can be customized to fit your specific storage needs.

Lockable Storage Boxes : If security is a concern, invest in lockable storage boxes for your RV’s exterior storage solutions. These boxes provide a secure place to store valuable items or equipment. Lockable storage boxes can be mounted on the RV’s frame or hitch and are designed to withstand the elements. Consider weatherproof and durable options to protect your belongings from moisture and theft.

When using outside storage solutions, ensure that they are securely fastened to your RV and regularly checked for stability during travel. Be mindful of weight restrictions and distribute the weight of stored items properly to maintain balance and safety on the road. These external storage options help optimize the available space in your RV, keeping the interior organized and allowing you to bring along all the necessary gear and equipment for your adventures.

Hitch-Mounted Bike Racks

Hitch-mounted bike racks offer a convenient and efficient solution for transporting bicycles with your RV. These racks attach to the hitch receiver on the back of your RV and securely hold your bikes in place during travel. Here are some key points to consider:

Types of Hitch-Mounted Bike Racks : There are different types of hitch-mounted bike racks available, including platform racks and hanging racks.

  • Platform Racks : Platform racks have a sturdy base or tray where the bikes rest. These racks typically have individual slots or cradles that securely hold each bike’s frame. Platform racks are user-friendly and allow for easy loading and unloading of bikes. They also provide better stability and minimize bike-to-bike contact during transport. Some platform racks have additional features like foldable arms for compact storage or integrated locks for added security.
  • Hanging Racks : Hanging racks suspend the bikes by their frames using horizontal arms or cradles. The bikes hang vertically from the rack, with the wheels secured in trays or straps. Hanging racks are generally more affordable and lighter in weight compared to platform racks. They are suitable for most types of bikes, including road bikes, mountain bikes, or hybrids. However, they may require extra care and attention to prevent bikes from swinging or colliding with each other.

Compatibility with Your RV : Before purchasing a hitch-mounted bike rack, ensure that it is compatible with your RV’s hitch receiver. Consider the size and class of your hitch, as well as the weight capacity it can handle. Different racks are designed to fit specific hitch sizes, such as 1.25-inch or 2-inch receivers. It’s crucial to choose a bike rack that matches your RV’s hitch specifications to ensure a secure and stable attachment.

Number of Bikes : Consider how many bikes you plan to transport with your RV. Hitch-mounted bike racks come in various sizes, accommodating different bike capacities, typically ranging from two to five bikes. Select a bike rack that suits your needs and the number of bikes you intend to carry. Ensure that the weight of the bikes does not exceed the maximum capacity specified by the bike rack manufacturer.

Security Features : Look for hitch-mounted bike racks with built-in security features to protect your bikes from theft. Some racks have locking mechanisms that secure the bikes to the rack and the rack to the hitch receiver. This provides an added layer of security, deterring potential theft during stops or when the RV is unattended. Lockable cable attachments or integrated locks are common security features to consider.

Ease of Use and Accessibility : Consider the ease of use and accessibility when selecting a hitch-mounted bike rack. Look for racks that offer convenient features such as tilt-away or swing-away designs. These allow you to access the rear of your RV or open the tailgate without having to remove the bikes or rack. Such features make it more convenient to load and unload your bikes and access other storage compartments or equipment.

Bike Protection and Stability : Ensure that the bike rack provides adequate protection and stability during travel. Look for racks with adjustable straps, padded cradles, or anti-sway mechanisms. These features help secure the bikes in place, prevent bike-to-bike contact, and minimize movement or damage while on the road. Verify that the rack is sturdy, well-built, and capable of withstanding the vibrations and bumps typically encountered during RV travel.

Weight and Dimensions : Consider the weight and dimensions of the bike rack itself, as this can affect your RV’s towing capacity and maneuverability. Opt for lightweight yet durable materials that can withstand different weather conditions and long-term use. Be mindful of the dimensions of the rack, especially if you have limited storage space for the rack when it’s not in use. Some racks offer foldable or collapsible features for easier storage and reduced overall size.

Maintenance and Durability : Check the maintenance requirements and durability of the bike rack. Look for racks that are corrosion-resistant, as they will be exposed to the elements during travel. Regularly inspect and clean the rack, ensuring that all parts are secure and in good working condition. Following the manufacturer’s guidelines for maintenance and care will extend the lifespan of your bike rack.

By selecting a hitch-mounted bike rack that suits your RV’s specifications, accommodating the number of bikes you plan to transport, and considering factors like security features and ease of use, you can enjoy the freedom of bringing your bicycles along on your RV adventures. Remember to follow safety guidelines, properly load and secure your bikes, and regularly inspect the rack for a secure and enjoyable travel experience.

Under-Seat Storage

Under-seat storage is an often-overlooked space in an RV that can provide valuable storage options. Many RVs have seating areas with built-in storage compartments that can be accessed by lifting the seat cushions. Here’s how you can make the most of this under-utilized space:

Assess the Storage Area : Start by assessing the under-seat storage area in your RV. Lift the seat cushions to see the available space and take measurements if needed. Observe the shape, dimensions, and any existing dividers or compartments within the storage area. Understanding the space will help you plan and utilize it effectively.

Utilize Storage Bins or Organizers : Storage bins or organizers are excellent tools for maximizing the use of under-seat storage. Choose bins that fit the dimensions of the storage compartment and can be easily stacked or arranged. These bins keep items neatly organized and prevent them from shifting during travel. Consider using clear bins to quickly identify the contents without having to open each one.

Group Similar Items : To maintain an organized under-seat storage area, group similar items together. For example, store bedding and pillows in one bin, while another bin can hold books or games. By categorizing items, you can easily find what you need without rummaging through everything. Use labels or color-coded tags to further streamline the retrieval process.

Consider Vacuum-Sealed Bags : If you have bulkier items such as extra blankets or pillows, consider using vacuum-sealed bags to save space. Vacuum-sealed bags compress the volume of these items, making them more compact and easier to store. They also protect the items from dust, moisture, and odors. Vacuum-sealed bags are ideal for maximizing under-seat storage since they take up less space compared to traditional storage options.

Custom Dividers or Containers : If the under-seat storage area doesn’t have built-in dividers or compartments, consider adding custom dividers or containers to make the most of the space. You can use sturdy cardboard, plastic bins, or even repurpose storage containers to create sections within the storage area. These dividers help keep items separated and prevent them from shifting during travel.

Store Seasonal Items : Under-seat storage is an ideal place to store seasonal items that you don’t need on a regular basis. Use this space to store things like winter clothing during the summer months or beach accessories during the colder seasons. By rotating items based on the season, you can keep your RV clutter-free and ensure you have the necessary items readily available when needed.

Easy Access Items : Consider using the under-seat storage for items that you frequently need access to during your travels. This could include items like travel guides, maps, or frequently used tools. Keeping these items in the under-seat storage area ensures they are within reach and eliminates the need to dig through other storage compartments.

Securing Items : Make sure to secure items in the under-seat storage to prevent them from shifting or becoming disorganized during travel. Use bungee cords, adjustable straps, or even adhesive Velcro strips to secure bins or organizers in place. This will keep everything in order and prevent any potential damage or messes when you reach your destination.

By effectively utilizing the under-seat storage area in your RV, you can create additional storage space and keep your belongings organized and easily accessible. Take advantage of this often-unused space to store items that you don’t need on a daily basis or to keep frequently accessed items conveniently close at hand.

Pegboard Storage

Pegboard storage is a versatile and customizable solution that can help you maximize the use of wall space in your RV. By installing a pegboard, you can create a functional storage system that keeps frequently used items organized and easily accessible. Here’s how you can make the most of pegboard storage in your RV:

Choose the Right Pegboard : Select a pegboard that fits the available wall space in your RV. Pegboards are available in various sizes, so measure the area where you plan to install it to ensure a proper fit. Consider the thickness and durability of the pegboard material. Opt for a sturdy option that can withstand the weight of your stored items.

Plan Your Storage Layout : Before installing the pegboard, plan the layout of your storage system. Visualize the items you want to hang and consider their sizes and weights. This will help determine the arrangement of hooks, shelves, and other accessories on the pegboard. Organize your items into categories, such as tools, kitchen utensils, or office supplies, to guide the arrangement process.

Install the Pegboard : Mount the pegboard securely on the wall of your RV. Ensure it is level and stable before proceeding. Depending on the type of wall material, you may need appropriate anchors or brackets for proper installation. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions or consult a professional if necessary.

Choose the Right Hooks and Accessories : Select a variety of hooks and accessories that are compatible with your pegboard. There are different types of hooks available, including straight hooks, angled hooks, loop hooks, and specialty hooks designed for specific items. Consider the weight capacity of the hooks and choose those that can support the items you plan to hang. Additionally, explore accessories like shelves, baskets, or tool holders that can be mounted on the pegboard for even more storage versatility.

Hang and Arrange Items : Start hanging your items on the pegboard using the appropriate hooks. Hang tools, kitchen utensils, or other frequently used items within easy reach. Arrange the items in a way that makes sense to you and suits your workflow. Keep similar items together and consider their sizes to ensure efficient use of space. Leave enough space between items to prevent overcrowding.

Customize and Label : Make the storage system even more efficient by customizing it to your specific needs. Trim the pegboard or add additional sections if required. You can also paint the pegboard to match your RV’s interior or add labels to hooks or shelves for easy identification of stored items. Customization and labeling make it easier to find what you need and maintain an organized storage system.

Utilize Vertical Space : Maximize the vertical space on the pegboard by using hooks or accessories of different lengths. Hang taller items near the top and smaller items near the bottom. This ensures that you make the most of the available wall space and keep your RV clutter-free.

Regular Maintenance : Regularly inspect and maintain your pegboard storage system. Ensure that the hooks and accessories are secure and haven’t become loose over time. Clean the pegboard and wipe down the hooks or shelves to keep everything tidy. Periodically reevaluate the arrangement and make adjustments as needed to accommodate any changes in your storage needs.

By utilizing pegboard storage in your RV, you can transform your wall space into a functional and organized storage system. The customizable nature of pegboards allows you to adapt the storage layout to your specific needs and keep frequently used items easily accessible. Determine Storage Needs : Identify the items you want to store behind the doors. Over-the-door storage can be used for a variety of items, such as shoes, toiletries, cleaning supplies, accessories, or even pantry items. Assess your storage needs and plan accordingly to choose the right organizer and maximize the use of the available space.

Install the Organizer : Follow the manufacturer’s instructions to properly install the over-the-door organizer. Most organizers have hooks or hangers that fit securely over the top of the door. Ensure that the organizer is stable and doesn’t interfere with the door’s opening and closing. If needed, use additional adhesive hooks or Velcro strips to secure the bottom of the organizer to prevent swinging or movement.

Categorize and Arrange Items : Group similar items together and assign them to specific compartments or pockets of the over-the-door organizer. For example, designate one pocket for shoes, another for toiletries, and a separate compartment for cleaning supplies. This categorization helps keep items organized and easy to find when needed.

Utilize Clear Pockets or Label : Consider using over-the-door organizers with clear pockets or label each compartment. Clear pockets allow you to quickly see the contents of each pocket without having to open or search through them. Alternatively, you can use labels or tags to identify the contents of each compartment. This makes it easier to locate items and maintain an organized storage system.

Maximize Vertical Space : Take advantage of the vertical space provided by over-the-door storage. The organizers often have multiple pockets or compartments, allowing you to store several items in a compact manner. Make use of the entire length of the organizer to maximize storage capacity. Utilize hooks or loops on the organizer to hang additional items such as keys, lanyards, or small accessories.

Secure Items and Prevent Spills : Ensure that items stored in the over-the-door organizer are properly secured to prevent spills or falling during travel. Consider using small containers or zippered pouches within the pockets to keep smaller items contained. For liquids or spillable items, use sealable bags or place them in leak-proof containers before storing them in the organizer.

Regular Maintenance : Regularly check and maintain the over-the-door storage organizer to ensure it remains in good condition. Clean the pockets or compartments as needed, especially if storing items that may leave residue or odors. Periodically reassess the contents of the organizer and make adjustments based on your storage needs.

Over-the-door storage is a simple and effective way to make use of the often-underutilized space behind doors in your RV. By installing these organizers, you can keep your belongings organized, easily accessible, and free up valuable cabinet or countertop space. Maximize the vertical space in your RV and create a clutter-free living environment.

Magnetic Spice Racks

Magnetic spice racks are a practical and space-saving solution for organizing and storing spices in your RV’s kitchen. By utilizing the vertical space on the side of your refrigerator or other magnetic surfaces, magnetic spice racks keep your spices easily accessible while freeing up valuable cabinet or countertop space. Here’s how you can make the most of magnetic spice racks in your RV:

Choose Magnetic Spice Jars : Start by selecting magnetic spice jars specifically designed for this purpose. Look for jars that have a magnetic bottom, allowing them to securely attach to magnetic surfaces. These jars are often transparent or have a clear top, enabling you to easily identify the contents without opening them. Consider jars that come with pre-labeled spice names or opt for blank labels to customize according to your spice collection.

Find a Suitable Magnetic Surface : Identify a suitable magnetic surface in your RV’s kitchen. The side of the refrigerator is a popular choice, but you can also use the inside of a cabinet door or a metal backsplash. Ensure the chosen surface is clean and dry before attaching the magnetic spice rack.

Arrange the Magnetic Spice Jars : Arrange the magnetic spice jars on the chosen magnetic surface. Group them based on categories or personal preferences, such as grouping frequently used spices together or organizing them alphabetically. Consider the frequency of use and place the most frequently used spices within easy reach for convenience.

Customize the Magnetic Spice Rack : Customize the magnetic spice rack to suit your needs. You can label the spices using printed labels, handwritten tags, or even a label maker. This makes it easier to identify each spice and maintain an organized spice collection. If desired, you can also arrange the spices in a specific order to create an aesthetically pleasing display.

Ensure Secure Attachment : Make sure the magnetic spice jars are securely attached to the magnetic surface. The magnets on the jars should hold them firmly in place, even when the RV is in motion. Test the strength of the magnets and readjust the jars as necessary to prevent them from accidentally falling off.

Consider Spices in Bulk : If you buy spices in bulk, consider transferring them to smaller containers that are suitable for magnetic attachment. This allows you to keep only the necessary amount of each spice in the magnetic spice jars, while storing the remaining bulk spices in a separate, airtight container in a cool and dry place in your RV.

Store Infrequently Used Spices Elsewhere : If you have spices that are used less frequently, consider storing them in a separate container or cabinet to free up space on the magnetic spice rack for commonly used spices. This ensures that the magnetic spice rack remains clutter-free and only contains the spices you regularly use.

Maintenance and Organization : Regularly assess the spices on the magnetic spice rack to ensure they are still fresh and usable. Take note of any expired or stale spices and replace them as needed. Additionally, periodically clean the magnetic surface and spice jars to remove any dust or residue that may accumulate.

By using magnetic spice racks in your RV, you can efficiently organize your spice collection and free up valuable storage space. These racks keep your spices within easy reach while cooking and add a functional and decorative element to your RV’s kitchen. Enjoy hassle-free access to your favorite spices and maintain an organized culinary space during your RV adventures.

Here’s how you can make the most of a slide-out pantry in your RV:

Assess Available Space : Begin by assessing the available space in your RV’s kitchen or dining area where the slide-out pantry can be installed. Measure the height, width, and depth of the space to ensure a proper fit. Consider any obstructions or nearby appliances that may affect the installation of the pantry.

Choose a Slide-Out Pantry : Select a slide-out pantry unit that matches the dimensions and style of your RV’s interior. Slide-out pantries come in various sizes, configurations, and materials. Some are designed specifically for RVs and feature lightweight yet durable construction. Choose a pantry that offers multiple slide-out shelves or baskets, allowing you to maximize the use of the vertical space.

Install the Slide-Out Pantry : Follow the manufacturer’s instructions to properly install the slide-out pantry in your RV. Ensure that it is securely fastened and stable. Some slide-out pantry units come with adjustable brackets or rails to accommodate different sizes of spaces. Verify that the pantry is level and operates smoothly before loading it with items.

Organize Pantry Items : Organize your pantry items before placing them in the slide-out pantry. Group similar items together, such as canned goods, boxed foods, snacks, or spices. Consider using bins or baskets within the slide-out pantry to further categorize and separate items. This makes it easier to locate specific items and maintain an organized pantry.

Label or Inventory : Label the shelves or bins in the slide-out pantry to easily identify the contents of each storage area. This helps to prevent rummaging through the pantry and saves time when searching for specific items. Alternatively, you can keep an inventory list of the pantry items to quickly identify what needs to be restocked.

Maximize Vertical Space : Make the most of the vertical space within the slide-out pantry by utilizing stackable storage containers or adjustable shelves. This allows you to optimize the storage capacity and accommodate items of different sizes. Consider using clear containers to easily see the contents and prevent items from shifting during travel.

Weight Distribution : Be mindful of the weight distribution within the slide-out pantry. Place heavier items on the lower shelves or towards the center of the pantry to maintain stability during travel. This helps prevent the pantry from becoming top-heavy and ensures smooth operation when sliding the pantry in and out.

Regular Maintenance: Regularly inspect and clean the slide-out pantry to keep it in good condition. Remove any expired or stale items, and wipe down the shelves or bins to remove dust or spills. Lubricate the sliding mechanism if necessary to ensure smooth operation.

Outdoor storage hooks are a practical and versatile solution for organizing and storing various items outside of your RV. By installing hooks on the exterior of your RV, you can free up valuable interior space and keep frequently used outdoor gear or accessories easily accessible. Here’s how you can make the most of outdoor storage hooks:

Assess Your Storage Needs : Start by assessing your outdoor storage needs. Consider the items you want to hang or store outside of your RV, such as hoses, extension cords, camping chairs, outdoor rugs, or other equipment. Understanding your storage needs will help determine the number and type of outdoor storage hooks required.

Choose the Right Hooks : Select hooks that are designed for outdoor use and can withstand various weather conditions. Look for hooks made of durable materials such as stainless steel or coated metal that are resistant to rust and corrosion. Consider the weight capacity of the hooks and ensure they can safely support the items you plan to hang or store.

Identify Suitable Mounting Areas : Identify suitable areas on the exterior of your RV where you can install the outdoor storage hooks. Common locations include the sides, rear, or underneath the awning. Ensure the mounting surface is strong and can support the weight of the hooks and the items to be stored. Be mindful of any obstructions or potential damage that the hooks may cause to your RV’s exterior.

Installation and Secure Attachment : Follow the manufacturer’s instructions to properly install the outdoor storage hooks. Use appropriate tools and hardware to ensure a secure attachment. Depending on the type of hooks and the mounting surface, you may need screws, bolts, or adhesive strips designed for outdoor use. Make sure the hooks are firmly attached and can withstand the weight and movement associated with RV travel.

Categorize and Hang Items : Categorize the items you plan to hang or store using the outdoor storage hooks. Hang similar items together to create an organized and functional storage system. For example, group hoses and extension cords on one hook, camping chairs on another, and outdoor tools on a separate hook. This makes it easier to locate and retrieve items when needed.

Utilize Bungee Cords or Straps : For items that may swing or move during travel, consider using bungee cords or straps to secure them to the outdoor storage hooks. This provides an additional level of stability and prevents items from shifting or falling off the hooks while on the road. Use adjustable straps or cords to accommodate different sizes and shapes of items.

Regular Inspection and Maintenance : Regularly inspect the outdoor storage hooks and the items hung or stored on them. Ensure that the hooks remain securely attached and haven’t loosened over time. Check the condition of the items and replace any worn-out or damaged gear. Periodically clean the hooks and remove any dirt or debris that may accumulate.

Weight Distribution and Balance : Maintain proper weight distribution and balance when using outdoor storage hooks. Avoid overloading one side of your RV or hanging heavy items in a way that may affect the balance or stability of your vehicle. Distribute the weight evenly and be mindful of weight limits to ensure safe and stable RV travel.

By utilizing outdoor storage hooks, you can efficiently organize and store outdoor gear and accessories, keeping them easily accessible and freeing up interior space in your RV. Take advantage of these hooks to hang hoses, extension cords, camping chairs, or other items, allowing you to enjoy the outdoors while maintaining a clutter-free living environment inside your RV.

How To Store Your RV Accessories For Easy Access

One of the best ways to keep your RV organized is to store your accessories in an easily accessible place. This way, you won’t have to search high and low for that one thing you need.

There are a few different ways to do this. For example, you can store your accessories in a storage container or bin or hang them up on a wall or door.

If you choose to store your accessories in a container, make sure it is clear so you can see what is inside. You can also label the outside of the container with a permanent marker, so you know exactly what is inside.

If you decide to hang your accessories, use hooks or hangers made specifically for small spaces.

1. Suction Cup Hooks

Suction cup hooks are one of the most helpful RV organization tools that you can have. They are super versatile and can be used for a variety of purposes.

Here are just a few ways that suction cup hooks can help you stay organized in your RV:

  • Hang towels in the bathroom: Suction cup hooks are perfect for hanging towels in the bathroom. This way, you can have a place to hang wet towels to dry, and there is no need to take up space with a towel rack.
  • Hang pots and pans in the kitchen: If you don’t have a lot of counter space in your RV, suction cup hooks can be used to hang pots and pans from the ceiling. This way, they are out of the way but still within easy reach when you need them. Note, though – it’s not advisable to travel with your pots and pans dangling from the ceiling.
  • Organize cleaning supplies: Suction cup hooks are also great for organizing cleaning supplies. You can use them to hang a cleaning caddy from the wall or even just to keep rolls of paper towels handy.
  • Create extra storage: Suction cup hooks can be used as an extra storage solution in your RV. For example, you could use them to hang a basket for holding fruit or vegetables or keep your keys and sunglasses within easy reach.

These suction cup wall hooks don’t need tools or drilling, making installation a breeze.

If you’re looking for an easy way to stay organized in your RV, suction cup hooks are worth considering.

2. Command Hooks

Command Medium Designer Hooks, White, 9-Hooks, 12-Strips, Organize & Decorate Damage-Free

  • Command hooks can also be used to hang clothes in the bedroom or closet. This is a fantastic approach to free up space in dressers and make it easy to grab clothes when you’re running out the door.
  • In the kitchen, hooks can hold pot holders, oven mitts, or dish towels. This will prevent them from taking up space in drawers or getting lost in the cabinet abyss.
  • Command hooks are also great for organizing cords and cables. Wrap the excess cord around a command hook to keep it out of the way and prevent tangles.

So if you’re looking for an easy way to get organized in your RV, hooks are the way to go!

  • They can be used to hang bags and purses, keeping them off the floor and out of the way.
  • Hang up towels in the bathroom. This keeps them within reach when you need them and helps to prevent mildew buildup.
  • Use them in the kitchen to hold pots and pans. This frees up cabinet space and makes it easy to grab what you need when cooking.
  • Use them in the bedroom to hold clothes. This saves space in the closet and makes it easy to grab what you need when you’re getting dressed.

How To Organize Your RV Kitchen

Are you constantly running out of storage in your RV kitchen cabinets? Do you feel like you’re always crammed for room? If so, don’t worry – you’re not alone!

Most RVers struggle with kitchen storage and counter space. But don’t despair – there are ways to maximize your space.

When it comes to RV kitchen organization, every little bit of space counts. So, maximizing space and using it to full effect is crucial.

Improving RV Counter Space

The open road, the freedom of adventure, and the cozy confines of an RV may seem like the perfect recipe for an unforgettable journey.

However, this dream can quickly turn into a culinary nightmare when you realize that your counter space is woefully inadequate.

The small surface area often presents a significant challenge, especially when you’re preparing meals.

You see, in an RV, every inch of space is precious, and this couldn’t be truer for the kitchen.

Preparing a meal involves juggling between cutting boards, pots, pans, and ingredients on an area that’s often smaller than an average desk.

But don’t despair!

This seemingly insurmountable problem has several ingenious solutions.

The key lies in optimizing the available space and using innovative storage ideas to help free up your counter.

6. Countertop Extension

A countertop extension can be a game-changer in small spaces like an RV kitchen.

It provides that extra surface area that’s often desperately needed during food preparation, cooking, and cleaning.

Think of it as an additional piece of real estate in your kitchen that you can pull out or fold down whenever you need it.

It’s like having an extra pair of hands that can hold your recipe book, mixing bowl, or even your cup of coffee.

One of the biggest benefits of a countertop extension is its versatility.

When you’re chopping vegetables or kneading dough, it can serve as an additional cutting board or prep station. If you’re serving food buffet-style, it can act as a serving area.

And when it’s cleanup time, it can hold your dish rack or act as a sorting area for clean and dirty dishes.

It fits snugly over your sink, effectively turning it into a cutting or prep station.

This means you can chop your vegetables, slice your fruits, or even knead your dough right over the sink, freeing up your valuable space for other tasks.

You can get the same benefits from a stovetop cover .

When not in use, these cutting boards can be easily stored away, unlike fixed counters that take up space all the time.

How To Keep Your Clothes Organized While Traveling

Traveling in an RV is a fantastic way to see the country and spend time with family or friends. However, keeping your clothes organized while on the road can also be challenging.

Here are a few tips to help you keep your clothes organized in your camper:

23. Hanging Shelves In Closets

Zober 5 Shelf Hanging Closet Organizer Space Saver, Roomy Breathable Hanging Shelves With (6) Side Accessories Pockets, And 2 Sturdy Hooks, For Clothes Storage, And Shoes, Etc. 12 x 11 ½ x 42 In, Gray

Hanging shelves in closets is such a popular way to organize and save space. Not only do they help you stay organized, but they can also be used to store clothes, shoes, and other belongings.

Hanging shelves are a great way to save space in an RV because they don’t take up any floor space and maximise vertical space. This is especially beneficial in smaller RVs where every bit of extra storage space is crucial.

Additionally, hanging shelves can be installed anywhere in the closet, so you can customize your storage space to fit your specific needs.

24. Folding Smarter

There are many ways to fold clothes to take up less space. Doing a little research on this before you travel can reduce your demand for storage.

When you’re RVing, space is a precious commodity. And when you’re trying to pack everything in, it’s important to be as organized and efficient as possible. One way to do that is by folding your clothes neatly. Not only does this save space, but it also helps you stay organized.

Here are a few tips for folding clothes in an RV:

  • Start by folding your clothes in half, then in half again. This will create a small square that can be easily stored.
  • Fold pants and skirts along the waistband or seam. This will help them take up less space.
  • Roll T-shirts and sweaters instead of folding them. This will also save space.
  • Hang jeans and other bulky items on a hanger. This will keep them from taking up too much room in your closet or storage area.

25. Shoe Organizers

Amazon Basics 20-Pocket Over-the-Door Hanging Large-Size Shoe Organizer

Investing in a good shoe organizer can help keep your shoes from taking over your RV.

Shoe organizers are the perfect way to keep your RV tidy and organized. They can be hung on the walls, doors, or shelves. Plus, they’re easy to move around if you need to change your layout.

One of the best things about shoe organizers is that they can be used for more than just shoes.

You can use them to store clothes, food, or anything else you need to organize. They’re great for keeping your RV neat and tidy, perfect for when you’re on the go.

26. Drawer Organizers

SMARTAKE 13-Piece Drawer Organizer with Non-Slip Silicone Pads, 5-Size Desk Drawer Organizer Trays Storage Tray for Makeup, Jewelries, Utensils in Bedroom Dresser, Office and Kitchen (Clear)

Drawer organizers are a great way to keep your clothes and accessories organized when traveling or living in an RV.

They can help you fit more items into your drawers and make it easy to find what you need.

When choosing drawer organizers, make sure to get the right size for your space.

You may also want organizers with different compartments to separate your clothes and accessories into categories.

These individual pieces allow you to really maximize your space. You can combine them anyhow you like, to fit any space.

27. Packing Cubes

Veken 6 Set Packing Cubes, Travel Accessories Suitcase Luggage Organizers with Laundry Bag & Shoe Bag (Cyan)

Packing cubes are an excellent way to maximize space and keep your clothes organized while traveling.

RVers know that organization is vital when packing for a road trip. When everything is sorted and easy to find, there is less stress and more time to enjoy the journey.

Packing cubes are perfect for organizing clothes in an RV. The waterproof fabric prevents moisture from damaging your clothes. In addition, the cubes come in different sizes, so you can find the perfect one for your needs.

Use smaller cubes for underwear and larger ones for jeans and shirts. You can even use a shoe cube to keep your shoes organized in the RV.

28. Vacuum Bags

20 Pack Vacuum Storage Bags, Space Saver Bags (4 Jumbo/4 Large/4 Medium/4 Small/4 Roll) Compression Storage Bags for Comforters and Blankets, Vacuum Sealer Bags for Clothes Storage, Hand Pump Included

Vacuum bags are a great RV storage idea for long-term RVers and can be a huge help.

Not only do they provide extra storage space, but they also compress clothes and other items, taking up less room in the process.

This is a great way to save space in your RV while on the go.

When using vacuum bags, be sure to avoid damage to the contents. Here are some tips:

  • Make sure the bag is sealed correctly. If air manages to escape, the bag won’t be effective at compressing the contents.
  • Avoid overfilling the bag. This can cause damage to the contents due to excessive pressure.
  • Be careful with delicate items. The vacuum can cause them to become wrinkled or even torn.
  • Avoid putting anything with sharp edges into the vacuum bags, as they can puncture the bag and cause damage.

29. Under Bed Storage

Utilizing the space under your bed is a great way to keep your RV organized and tidy.

There are many ways to take advantage of the storage space under your RV bed. For example, if you have a slide-out, pull the bed out to its furthest extension to maximize the available space.

You can use boxes or bins to organize your belongings or invest in a storage drawer or cabinet that can be attached under the bed.

Here are a few ideas for what you might store away under your RV bed:

  • Out-of-season clothes and accessories
  • Bed linens and blankets
  • Toys and games
  • Camping gear
  • Nonperishable food items

30. Pack Smart

When packing for your trip, be strategic about how you pack your clothes. Roll items instead of folding them to save space, and put heavier items on the bottom of your bag.

You might also want to invest in some compression bags to maximize RV space.

31. Hang It Up

If possible, hang up your clothes when you arrive at each destination. This will help prevent wrinkles and keep your clothes looking fresher for longer.

If hanging up your clothes isn’t possible, consider investing in a portable steamer to help keep them wrinkle-free.

The Best Way To Deal With RV Laundry While Traveling

If you’re traveling in an RV, finding efficient ways to store and organize your laundry is important.

Dirty laundry can take up precious space and create unwanted smells if left too long or not stored correctly.

Here are a few tips on how to keep your RV laundry organized while on the road:

32. Collapsible Laundry Basket

Amazon Basics Foldable Pop-Up Mesh Hamper - Orange, Pack of 2

A collapsible laundry basket is a great way to store and transport your dirty clothes. These baskets are easy to clean and can be stored out of the way when not in use.

These hampers are made of durable mesh and can easily pop up when you need them.

They’re perfect for carrying laundry to and from the laundry room or for use as a toy box or indoor/outdoor storage bin.

Amazon Basics Foldable Pop-Up Mesh Hamper - Orange, Pack of 2

The mesh design allows air to circulate, which helps prevent moisture and odors. And when you’re not using them, they can be easily folded for compact storage.

The downside of using a collapsible laundry basket is that it still takes up a fair amount of space, even when collapsed.

33. Breathable Fabric Laundry Bag

Smart Design Jumbo Heavy Duty Mesh Laundry Bag with Push Lock Drawstring - VentilAir Mesh Material - for Clothes and Laundry - Home Organization Holds 3 Loads - 40 x 30 Inch - White

A breathable fabric laundry bag is a great way to store your dirty clothes. It allows air to circulate, which prevents smells from building up.

When ready to wash your clothes, simply transfer the bag to the washing machine.

The great thing about using a laundry bag is that it can be easily stored out of the way. You can hang it on a hook or in a closet. Then, when it’s empty, it’s compact enough to fold up and tuck away.

34. Sealed Dry Bag

Dry Bags Waterproof Set 3-/5-Pack, Ultralight Waterproof Bags Small Stuff Sack Water Proof Bag Dry Packs, Outdoor Dry Sacks Keep Gears Dry for Backpacking, Hiking, Boating, Camping, Kayaking, Travel

You can also use a sealed dry bag for your dirty laundry, which will keep moisture and smells out of your camper.

Simply place your clothes in the bag and seal it shut. Then, when you’re ready to wash, open the bag and transfer the clothes to the machine.

Sealed dry bags are ideal for storing wet clothes. But, unless you’re planning on washing them right away, it’s best to hang them up to dry first. Otherwise, they may mildew in the bag.

The downside of using a dry bag is that it doesn’t allow the air to circulate around your clothes. That can lead to mildew and musty smells.

Avoid problems by emptying the bag often and letting it air out between uses.

35. Pillowcase

Another option is to put your dirty laundry in a pillowcase. This compact solution won’t take up much space in your RV. But, again, this is a low-cost option, so what’s not to love?

Again, clean the pillowcase regularly to prevent bacteria and mold from growing.

Top Tips On Finding Great RV Storage Ideas That Work

Give everything a home.

It doesn’t matter how big or small your RV is. If you don’t have a place for everything, you will live in chaos.

Having a designated space for all your accessories helps keep your RV life organized and sane.

When everything has its own home, you know exactly where to find it, and you’re not constantly searching through piles of stuff to find what you need.

This also helps to reduce the amount of clutter, which can make a small space feel even smaller.

dedicated storage for everything helps keep an RV organized

Keep Your RV Clean

A clean RV is a happy RV, and a happy RV is a well-organized RV. Trust us, we know from experience. We’ve been living in our camper for over four years, and keeping it clean has been a massive help in staying organized.

Keeping on top of a cleaning schedule helps ensure we never let clutter build up. So, not only do we have less stuff to deal with, but everything has its own place, and we know where to find it when we need it.

So if you’re looking for ways to stay organized while living in an RV, start with keeping your RV clean. It’ll make all the difference.

Keeping RV storage clean and tidy helps to keep organized when living in a small space

Declutter Regularly

Decluttering regularly is essential to stay organized when living in a tiny space.

It can be tempting to let things pile up, but the more stuff you have, the harder it is to keep track of everything.

Plus, all that clutter can make your RV feel cramped and cluttered. By decluttering regularly, you’ll be able to keep your spaces tidy and organized.

And who doesn’t want that? Not to mention, it’ll be much easier to find things when you need them.

A good rule to stick to is getting rid of anything you’ve not used in the last 6 months.

declutter your RV to make ensure you're not hoarding

Be Selective About What You Bring Onboard

When you live in an RV, you must be selective about what you bring onboard. Otherwise, you’ll quickly find yourself surrounded by clutter and struggling to stay organized.

The one in, one out rule is an excellent way to keep your living space spick and span. For every new item that comes into your home, make sure an old one leaves.

This will help you to avoid accumulating too much stuff and will keep your living space feeling open and airy.

Not to mention, it will save you time and effort when cleaning up! So next time you consider bringing something new into your RV, ask yourself if it’s essential.

Chances are, it’s not.

Keep RV storage needs down by being selective about what you take on board

Maximize Cabinet & Closet Space

Maximizing the available space is essential when living in an RV. It helps keep the area tidy and organized, making it easier to find things when needed.

  • Maximizing cabinet space is easy with a bit of planning and effort.
  • First, take stock of what you have and what you really need. Get rid of anything you don’t use or don’t serve a purpose.
  • Next, make sure that everything has a home.
  • Put items away after using them and put similar items together, so they’re easy to find. Finally, take advantage of vertical space by installing shelves and hooks.

Finding the best storage ideas for cabinets may take a bit of work, but it’s worth it for the peace of mind that comes with living in a tidy and organized RV.

Opt For Multi-Functional Accessories

When you live in an RV camper, it’s important to be smart about using the available space. Multi-functional accessories allow you to do more with less.

For example, a coffee table with storage can serve as both a place to rest your coffee cup and store books and magazines. A wall-mounted coat rack can also double as a key holder or a place to hang your purse.

You can keep your small space organized and uncluttered by choosing items that serve multiple purposes.

RV Pass-Through Storage Organization Ideas (DIY Tray + Tips)

  • By James V.

Thinking outside the box. This is a standard term used to describe driving creativity. When it comes to your pass-through storage area you may have to think outside the box to maximize the available but limited space. There are many ideas to adapt or use when you think about it.

One option you can try is to use tote boxes. Those plastic boxes are easy to open and very easy to label. You can use the lids to store lawn chairs, hoses, and cables if you want. Plus, you can construct some PVC piping for added storage items that won’t fit in those totes.

To learn more about this clever use of the pass-through storage space, just continue to read our article. It has some great ideas on how you can utilize this space and carry more things with you. Take a few minutes to see which of these ideas will help you out the best.

What is RV Pass-Through Storage?

What-is-RV-Pass-Through-Storage

This is found underneath your RV and it is that storage bin that goes from one side of the trailer or vehicle to the other side unhindered. There are no walls or other obstructions in the way and your items can be shifted with relative ease.

There are some benefits to this storage spot and maximizing its usefulness. Here are just a few of those benefits:

1. A clear area to store things that are not needed but need easy access to when they are needed. You have room to maneuver those totes or other items you create to hold your things without worrying about banging something. like your arm.

2. Capable of storing longer items. With no walls in the way, you can store those 6 to 8 foot long poles or other devices that won’t fit anywhere else. For example, your oars for your kayak or canoe can be stored in this area.

3. Consistent access to your things. When you are in a tight spot at least one side of the storage compartment should open wide enough to let you inside and get your things out. You may have to dig through some things but it is better than starting the RV and pulling out a few feet then having to back the vehicle back in again.

What Can Be Stored in These Pass-Through Storage Areas

What-Can-Be-Stored-in-These-Pass-Through-Storage-Areas

There are a lot of odd-shaped items that you can place in this handy little spot. We mentioned oars earlier but you can also place tiki lamps, fishing rods, long ice chests. short ladders, step stools, long barbecues, and many more items you may have on hand.

There are lots of creative ideas, coming up, that will help you organize the space so you can get more things in and not make it difficult to get them out again. The key is to use some common sense as a 10-foot ladder will not fit in an 8-foot space.

You do not want to cram things inside as that will make it a little risky when you need to retrieve an item or you may break the item if it is not stored correctly. When you look at the space, you will see that you have a lot of volume to use.

There will be length times width times height so make use of that space and make life a little easier for yourself and your spouse. When it comes to RVs and trailers, you do not have a lot of storage space. It is best to be creative and design your storage areas so that they work for you and your things.

How To Organize RV Pass-Through Storage

There are some people who are just not organized. You have seen their office desks, their rooms, or home and everything is just piled wherever there was a spot. This should not be the way you treat your pass-through storage space. If you do you won’t get much inside.

Here are some ways to organize your limited area and make it work for you:

1. Totes with wheels- these are made of plastic, are strong, and can hold a lot of items. They also come in different sizes so you can pack specific things in large or small totes or bins.

The wheels just make it easier to get the bin from its spot to where you need it to go so you can look through it. Label the bins or totes with the contents making it easier and quicker to find what you are looking for.

Place the labels where they can be read easily. Also, make sure those labels do not come off unless you take them off.

2. Use coat hooks- these little items will help you make use of the wall space inside this storage area. They are good for hanging up clothing you do not need or you can place them at intervals and use them to hold longer items.

Plus, you can use these coat hooks to hold ropes or cables or even bungee cords when you need your items to remain still when you are traveling.

3. Drawer organizers will work- they help you partition little areas so you can store little items inside that storage area. Keeping everything organized is the best way to use the limited space and make sure every item inside is safe.

These drawer organizers will work inside the RV or trailer as well making full use of the limited storage space you have in that part of your RV, etc.

4. Wire shelving can come in handy- these can be attached to the walls of the storage area and make use of the upper portion of that pass-through storage space. Making full use of all the space you have is very smart RVing.

These shelves can hold the drawer organizers as well making sure your smaller items are protected from bumps and heavier objects.

5. Try curtain rods- they may not go lengthwise but you can use a series of them width-wise to hold clothing, blankets, and other softer objects. There are unique design ideas where you may be able to make these rods movable so you can get better access to those clothing items inside the storage area.

Travel Trailer Pass-Through Storage Ideas

Travel-Trailer-Pass-Through-Storage-Ideas

There are different ideas you can consider when you are contemplating using this space in the best way possible. Here are some ideas to help your creativity and get you thinking outside the box:

1. Peg board- this is a very good idea when you want to utilize your wall space and the upper portions of the area. Attach the peg board next to the wall and place hooks in them to hold different items like fishing rods, oars, skis, and so on.

There are many different methods to use to place the peg boards inside this area and you can even place them on wheels to have them slide out for better access.

2. Net organizers- this is a handy option when you have owners manuals, and other light items that need to be found easily but also need to be kept out of the way.

They attach to the roof of your storage area via sticky tape and stay out of your way. You are not losing much headroom unless you pack a lot of items inside the netting.

These net organizers should come in different sizes so you can store larger light items and keep them out of the way of the heavier objects down below.

3. Hollow pipes- these can attach to the sides or even the roof of your pass-through storage area. They can hold items like sewer pipes, water hoses, and other needed equipment that are too big for other storage bins.

They can be attached by screws or tape depending on your preference and they also utilize upper space or they can go behind beg board frames to use that area as well.

4 . Wood dowels- like the curtain rod idea, you can use these to go across the width of your storage space and give you more room. The good thing about these wood dowels is that they come in different thicknesses and can be cut to size.

The drawback to this idea would that you would have to cut wood holders to place these dowels in. But you can paint or stain them to make the pass-through storage area look better. Steel rings can go over the dowels or the curtain rods to help hold individual items.

5. Shoe holders- when you and your family own lots of shoes, you can attach longer shoe holders to the walls of this space and place those extra unused shoes out of the way until they are needed.

These are cheap and easy to attach plus you can get a lot of shoes out of your upstairs closets, giving you more storage space in your living area.

6. Hanging baskets- another good idea that can use the space above those plastic totes. You just need to securely attach a nice metal rod against the wall or walls of your storage area and then hang the metal baskets on those rods.

This will give you an area to use those drawer organizers and elevate items you do not want to be broken. Then for smaller items like screws, thread, needles, etc., you can buy plastic organizers and place them inside those shelves.

These ideas should get you started on how to design your pass-through storage area and make sure your things are well organized and safe.

How do You Keep Things From Falling in An RV?

How-do-You-Keep-Things-From-Falling-in-An-RV

When you use the rod and basket idea, the key to keep items inside from falling is to not over pack them. Keep everything beneath the rim of the fence so that nothing can fall out accidentally.

With totes, you can place the wheels in such a position that they will not move until you move them. A little piece of wood on each side of the storage space will do the trick. This lip should prevent the wheels from turning and keep those totes in place.

As for the peg board and rods, the hooks will do that task for you but you can also use a mesh fence to hold them in place. Just string it up from end to end and make it tight so nothing moves.

Cargo bars will also help you secure your items. You won't lose too much storage space but at least your items will not move. And when you couple them with a cargo net, you have a very secure system in place.

DIY RV Pass Through Storage Tray

DIY-RV-Pass-Through-Storage-Tray

This is also a very good idea. These slide out storage trays do come in different sizes so you can design that pass-through area the way you want it to be and make the trays light enough to pull out.

While these trays can cost over $1000 for the commercially sold models, you can make your own at a fraction of the cost and design it with compartments for better storage facilities.

It just takes a little handyman skill, the right tools, and the right materials. Plus, you can make it fit exactly the dimensions your pass-through storage area contains. You can be creative too as you can use peg board and these slide outs at the same time.

Some Final Words

To maximize this storage area, all it takes is a little ingenuity, a little creativity and a little thinking outside the box. With the right help, you can create a great storage area that will hold all your odd-shaped items.

The key is to make sure you pick the storage idea that fits the items you want to place inside that area.

Organizing your RV Exterior Storage

Roadtreks are blessed with lots of storage, but unless you keep it organized there will never be enough space.  The older Roadtreks have one or more compartments with a fiberglass door and a rubber hinge.  By the way – keep an eye on that hinge.  They will eventually fail, and it is best to have a spare on hand.  They are pop-riveted in place so you may want to have a body shop install it, but if you have the hinge already it will make life easier.  They are very expensive to order through dealers, but you can buy it for less from Moore Industrial Hardware. (click for link).

Outside Storage Compartment (Medium)

Your RV exterior storage compartment(s) may be different, but if you can organize them well, you will be able to set and break camp efficiently and will not have trouble finding what you need when it is cold or raining.

Susan – On a pre-macerator Roadtrek the dump hose is stored in a tube, you just pull it out. It is already connected at the far end. It makes dumping very easy and there is no separate hose to store. We store the tools in a inside compartment just inside the rear door. We have a few commonly used tools in a small Eagle Creek bag that fits on the shelf above the driver’s door. We have multiple of these bags that store everything from electronics stuff to batteries to first aid items. And they all have labels.

30+ Brilliant RV Storage Ideas That Will Change Your Camping Life

' src=

One of the challenges of taking long camping trips is storage in an RV. Considering the confined space of any motorhome, your space will feel cluttered, claustrophobic and stress-inducing if you don’t have a good organization system.

And it takes some creativity, brainstorming and some shopping around to work out how you can fit in everything you want to bring along. But worry not, as you’ve arrived at the ultimate list of the most practical and creative RV storage ideas .

These solutions can be applied to trailers of any size as well as your home, so that even a very small space will be organized and feel livable. Here you will find storage solutions for every single room , including plenty of affordable and quick hacks and easy DIY suggestions.

RV Storage Ideas: Easy and Affordable DIY Projects

Fridge organizers, pantry and cabinet organizers, pots, pans, dinnerware, cutlery and tools, rv storage ideas: for the bedroom and closet, rv storage ideas: for the bathroom, rv storage ideas: others.

DIY RV storage ideas

Plastic/Cardboard Drawer Dividers

Adding dividers to your drawers will help you compartmentalize, categorize and thus instantly find things. This method surprisingly allows you to squeeze in much more in the same space, because many things can now stand upright instead of falling on top of each other. You can make your own drawer divider with cardboard or heavy duty plastic sheets, or use what you already have lying around for a quick fix, like a cereal box.

If you want to make your own, cut several rectangular pieces long enough to fit the whole inner length of your drawers and a few others that fit the whole inner width of the drawer. Cut even slots to allow the width pieces to interlock with the length pieces.

This is one of the most affordable RV storage solutions that can be widely applied to organize your spices, cooking ingredients, small tools and accessories as well as underwear and socks. Another plus is that it will not add weight to your trailer.

Countertop Foldout

Now this is one of those DIY RV storage ideas popular with super small rigs or with campers who need to prepare meals for a big group. Unless you very rarely cook, the more countertop space the better, even in residential homes.

You can easily buy wood planks and hinges or other accessories if needed at home improvement stores and even ask the store to cut it to size. Then throw on some paint or paint wax to match the foldout with the rest of your kitchen.

Over-Sink or Over-Stove Chopping Board

You can further expand your food preparation space by adding a custom made chopping board that snuggly covers your sink and your stovetop. This is one of those RV storage ideas that are widely applied in the homes as well.

There are ready-made products out there you can buy, but finding one that fits your existing small RV kitchen might be more troublesome than making your own.

Foldout Desk or Bar

If you travel alone or with your better half, you might be satisfied with eating at the bar. However, if you’re traveling in a group of three or more and there’s no dinette, you can install your own foldout bar top that when not in use can be folded to the wall so that it will not take up any floor space. One option is to make a foldout with expandable leafs, though this requires some designing and skills.

Knotted Fruit Hammocks

DIY macrame plant hangers once swept the world in a fever, and this gave birth to a related storage solution: knotted hammocks or bags to keep your fruits or onions, garlic and shallots off the countertop.

This might be one of the most brilliant DIY RV storage ideas yet, since it also keeps fruits and vegetables from getting bruised or flying through the air when you’re driving on rough terrains. It allows for ventilation, thus keeping everything fresh, and it looks pretty neat too.

Macrame Plant Hanger

Keeping a few small pots of herbs in your RV kitchen is a great idea for quality meals, and having some greenery in your tiny rig makes it feel more lively and less confined and rigid. While you’re making fruit hammocks, you can also use the same material to make some plant hanger for your herbs.

RV Storage Ideas: For The Kitchen

Pull-out containers with lid

The kitchen deserves its own section in any list of storage ideas for small campers. First off, for the fridge, there are an increasing number of creative products you can buy, most of which are made in China.

One of the most versatile RV storage ideas in this regard is long plastic containers with lids and pull-out handles for storing produce. These are stackable, lids on or lids off. They will keep your produce fresh for longer, since the easy pull-out system prevents them from getting bruised.

Clip-on and pull-out drawers or drink racks

If you want to maximize the small empty vertical space at the top of each shelf in the fridge, look for plastic or metal drawers or bins that clips on the existing shelves and can be easily pulled out. There’s also a metal wire version designed to hold bottled drinks that separates the bottles so that they don’t bang into each other.

Plastic bins and trays

A simple yet effective RV storage ideas for the fridge is to add clear plastic trays or deepers bins on each shelf so that you can pull them out to easily access anything further in the back. This solution can be applied to any deep cabinet.

Magnetic fridge shelf

As the name suggests, these are metal shelves that stick to the front or side of your fridge to hold spices and small bottles.

Some models have a wooden rod for holding paper towel rolls or hanging kitchen towels and pot holders. They can hold quite a lot of weight, but they are not made to something too heavy like a few full-size glass wine bottles.

IKEA spice rack

Available for only $7 a piece, these spice racks by IKEA are made from pine wood, so they are super lightweight. They are perfect for keeping frequently used spices and small bottles where you can easily get them without having to open the drawer or cabinet door.

The design is perfect for small spaces: these are 16 inches long, so you can fit one in the tightest corners of your rig to take advantage of any vertical space available. There are guard rails high enough to keep everything from tumbling down even when you’re driving. Of course, you can totally use these lightweight but durable racks in your bathroom or bedroom to hold cosmetics, books, tablets and other compact devices.

Stackable shelves

This is also one of the most versatile RV storage ideas. Depending on the size of the shelves and how sturdily they stack on top of each other, you can maximize vertical space to store from frequently used cups, dinnerware and spices to shoes and anything not too heavy.

These shelves can be made from plastic, metal, bamboo or wood. They are commonly used on the kitchen countertop in motorhomes as well as inside the cabinets and your work station.

Clear plastic bins

High and long clear plastic bins with handles that can cover the whole depth of your cabinet will help you gain easy access to things further at the back by pulling out the bin, organize your condiments and dry food supply by category and maximize space since everything stands upright, even packets of ketchup.

Under-shelf wire basket

These are just like the aforementioned pull-out drawers for the fridge, except these are typically bigger and can hold a bit more weight, so that you can store a stack of heavy plates. They can be used inside the cabinet to store dinnerware and dry food or hang under the cabinet to store fruits and vegetables or even act as a drying rack for cups and small bowls.

Fold-out under-cabinet rack

Among those RV storage ideas that maximize vertical space to keep things off the countertop, fold-out racks that are secured under the cabinet are a quite recent development. What’s great about them is that when not in use, they can retract to keep a minimal footprint in your tiny RV kitchen, so that it will feel less cluttered.

Magnetic strips

If you have used up all the space on your fridge but wish to use a few more magnetic shelves, you can screw magnetic strips on the wall to make a versatile storage solution that allows for instant changes in your storage needs. These strips are also perfect for securing knives, kitchen scissors and metal cooking tools. They allow your tools to air dry and prevent annoying rattling when you’re on the road.

Under-shelf hooks

These rows of hooks can clip on the thickness of your cabinet shelf to hold from mugs to cooking utensils, and can be further secured by either a screw or some adhesive. If you don’t want to damage your cabinet, buy the refill sticky strips designed for “command hooks”. If you’re not familiar with command hooks, more on this brilliant invention further down below.

Command hooks to hang utensils on the inside of cabinet doors

More on command hooks in the last section, but just know that these hooks are designed to be removed without any damage to your walls or cabinets. If you don’t like hanging cooking utensils in plain sight, another place to organize them for easy access without having to rummage through a stuffed drawer is to hang them individually on command hooks on the inside of your kitchen cabinet doors.

Pegboards for holding everything

Another versatile RV storage ideas is fixing peg boards on the walls or on the side of your kitchen cabinet. There are a number of hooks and other accessories for holding from utensils to caddies to chopping boards. You can find pegboards and a full range of accompanying accessories at IKEA.

Pegboards and pegs as drawer dividers for dinnerware

If you wish to keep your heavy plates, bowls and cups down low, like in a drawer, a super smart invention that stems from pegboards is to cut pegboards to fit the bottom of your drawer, then buy or DIY wooden pegs that inserts into the holes of the pegboards. This brilliant method allows you to customize your pegboard divider system to secure whatever you need to store in your drawer, no matter what size.

Adjustable pots and pans organizer

Made from metal with non-skid coatings, these racks are often expandable and can either be set up horizontally or vertically while always securing everything in place. The adjustable dividers allow you to customize to the size of your pots and pans or bakeware.

Slide-out pots and pans rack

A more expansive but more convenient upgrade from the above adjustable organizer is slide-out racks for pots and pans. These need to be installed with screws under the sink, but they are the best way to keep things organized while offering instant access. There are a variety of slide-out racks designed for different needs. For instance, cookware racks typically feature extra heavy duty dividers to separate bulky and heavy pots and pans, while lid organizers often have distinctive loop or grooved dividers.

Tension rods for pots, pans, chopping boards and bakeware

One of the most affordable yet fully customizable RV storage ideas for the kitchen is to use tension rods, yes, the kind that you use as cheap window curtain rods. Tension rods can be easily installed and uninstalled for instant customization when your need changes, and a pick of size typically costs around $12 to $15. Install them vertically in your cabinet to separate and get instant access to bakeware and cutting boards.

Over-cabinet-door organizer for pot lids

These are lightweight wire organizers that hooks over the thickness of your cabinet door and allow for instant access to any lid. Many units come with detachable L-shaped hooks so that you can remove the hooks to screw the unit on the wall or on the inside of the cabinet should you choose to.

Towel bars to hang pot lids

In addition to the discreet over-cabinet-door pot lid organizer hidden away, if you want a place to hang one or two pot lids while cooking or to leave them out to air dry so that they are off the countertop, a super versatile fix is to secure a short towel bar on the wall near your stove top. The typical towel bar would have the right gap from the wall to hold most sizes of pot lids, and when you’re not using them for pot lids, you can use the towel bar to hang your kitchen towel to dry or to hang cooking utensils with some hooks.

Over-sink dish rack

This is one of those RV storage tips that are widely applied in the homes. If you are not the type to hand dry your dishes with a kitchen towel so that you can put them away right after washing, using an over-sink dish rack will allow you to leave your dishes out to air dry without taking up limited countertop space.

These racks look just like those designed for use on the countertop, but have extendable arms to rest over the sink. Water will drip right down without the need for a water-collecting tray. An over-sink dish rack can also double duty as a strainer for chunky fruits and vegetables. For smaller things that can fall right through, you might want to consider buying an over-sink strainer.

Over-sink strainer

This is the close cousin of the over-sink dish rack. One advantage is this type of strainer is always rectangular in shape instead of the conventional bowl shape of regular strainer, thus is more space efficient. In addition, the extendable arms can be used to hang the strainer up to take advantage of vertical space.

Silicone roll-up dish drying mat

If you want a substitute RV storage ideas that takes up much less storage space when not in use than the above over-sink dish drying rack, a silicone roll-up mat would be the best choice. Made from durable metal sticks coated with non-slip silicone, these mats also hang over the sink to double duty for both when you’re washing your dishes or vegetables during meals preparation. When rolled up to tuck away, they take little storage space.

Over-cabinet-door or under-shelf roll holder

The under-shelf version is similar to the under-shelf hooks for mugs, while the over-cabinet-door version hooks on the thickness of your cabinet door or drawer to keep the paper towel roll somewhere easily accessible and off the countertop.

Over-cabinet-door trash bin

The trash bin is one item that you can downsize when living in a small RV. To keep them out of sight and off the kitchen floor, get an over-cabinet-door version of the trash bin.

Slide-out trash bin

If you need a sizable trash bin, get a slide-out version and secure it under the sink. The bin can be detached from the slideout, so when you decide to keep the bin outside, you can use the slideout to store your pots and pans under the sink.

Under-sink expandable shelf

If you want to maximize the space under the kitchen sink but at a fraction of the price of a slide-out unit, an expandable shelf made from part metal and part plastic would be a lightweight and affordable option, without the need to drill any hole in your cabinet.

These units typically look like a shoe rack, have a sturdy metal frame and movable plastic panels that slide on the shelves. You can usually buy extra plastic panels to cover the whole length of the shelves when the unit is fully expanded. Some units allow you to adjust tier height to best customize for your space.

Under-sink free standing drawer unit

These drawer units typically have a metal wire designed, with one top shelf and one or two slide-out drawers underneath. While a full-fledge slide-out unit is designed for bulky and heavy items like pots and pans, these drawer units are smaller and lightweight, and ideal for holding small tools and cleaning supplies.

These are one of those versatile RV storage ideas that are practical in many spaces and for many purposes, including the kitchen, the bathroom, the closet and the work station. When you’re about to move camp, just secure the drawers with bungee cords to prevent them from opening during the drive.

camper storage ideas

Clip-on bedside caddy

You might not have space for a freestanding nightstand in your small RV bedroom or sleeping quarters. A sensible substitute is a clip-on bedside caddy that comes with a clamp to clamp onto bed frames.

This is particularly handy for bunk beds, but in general it will also lift your bedside caddy off the floor for easy cleaning.

Vacuum-sealed bags for blankets and pillows

This is particularly handy for full-time, four-season campers who need to bring along extra blankets and pillows, plus bulky thick duvet and warm clothes, which take up a lot of space. And you would only be taking them out when winter comes. One super smart RV hacks for storage in your closet is to buy a kit with a vacuum and several reusable vacuum-sealed bags to squeeze your fluffy bed linens into as little space as possible.

For full-time campers, these kits would be ideal. However, if you don’t have a lot of stuff and are not traveling full-time, it would cost you less to use durable zipper bags. When you roll the bag with, say, a blanket in it, it will force the air out, then just zip it close. Not as effective and effortless as a vacuum-sealed bag kit, but this method will still save you quite a lot of closet space.

Under-bed storage containers on wheels

There are special storage containers designed for under the bed. They are shorter with pull handles and wheels on one side so you can slightly lift it up to pull it out. Ideal for camping gear storage or extra bed linens.

Adjustable closet rack

Adding additional shelves or racks in your closet for kitchen cupboards will help you store more in the same space, better categorize and easily get what you need without having to pull out something at the bottom of a pile of clothes and risk it falling over.

These adjustable shelves expand and are firmly secured using the same mechanism as regular shower curtain rod, so they are damaged free and versatile. Light-duty racks usually have 4 legs, while heavy duty ones might have 6 legs for more secure contact with the closet walls.

Collapsible hanging shelf

In addition to adjustable racks, another way to get the most from the existing vertical space in a closet is adding hanging shelves. These are made from heavy duty fabric and a solid metal frame, with hooks at the top.

Most come with additional mesh pockets on the side for small items, and some come with drawers for storing underwear. You can buy separate collapsible fabric drawers plus drawer dividers to add to your hanging shelf, or even use an existing plastic bin of the right size as a drawer.

camper hacks for storage

Clip-on closet shelf dividers or storage cubes turned on the side

If you’re storing folded clothes on a long high up rack, you won’t be able to put a lot up there and pulling something out might be messy, as the piles can fall on each other.

Two handy RV storage ideas to remedy this are closet shelf dividers made from metal wires that slide in and clip on closet shelves, and collapsible fabric storage cubes turned on the side, so that their bottoms are against the wall. There are also clip-on racks with dividers so that you can stack your clothes higher and get even easier access.

Over-the-door shoe organizer

Shoes might be tricky to store in a small space, as storing each in a shoe box or clear plastic container on a shoe rack will take up a lot of space, while trying to pile them on top of each other means dirty, deformed shoes. A super versatile solution for this is an over-the-door shoe organizer.

These hook over the thickness of doors, and consist of most commonly 24 to 36 mesh pockets, each typically holding one shoe. The size of these makes them also ideal for organizing underwear and socks, as well as small miscellaneous items.

Collapsible drawer divider

If you store underwear and socks in a drawer, add collapsible fabric dividers to Mari Kondo it up!

storage ideas for small campers

Plastic wall-mounted shower caddy with suction: The very best of these suction caddies can hold up to 16lbs. A damage-free way to keep your toiletries on the wall.

Silicone overhead shower caddy basket: If you don’t need to store really heavy toiletries, a silicone basket that hangs over the shower head will be a great substitute for suction caddies.

In-shower razor holder with suction: Very few damage-free shower caddies come with a dedicated slot to hold razor blades. A good idea is to mount them separately using plastic holders with suction.

Over-shower-door caddy: If you have many heavy bottles plus razors or scrubbing brushes or bath sponges, the most heavy duty organizer is a stainless steel rack that hangs over the door of your shower. These typically come with multiple hooks to hang sponges and razors.

Over-the-door towel rack: Ideal for hand towels and smaller bath towels, the most that a rack like these can typically hang is 3 towels, with enough gaps between each bar to allow for circulation.

Behind-the-door swivel towel bars: If you already have another storage rack over your bathroom door, get a set of swivel towel bars that secure over the door hinges to take advantage of unused space behind the bathroom door. No screwing is needed, but most models allow you to mount these bars on the wall.

External mounts

Another one of those RV storage ideas principle is to mount things on the roof and/or sides of your motorhome to free up as much interior space as possible, since even a small space is valuable in a tiny home on wheels.

While kayak and mountain bikes and other toys are the most common items you will see mounted on an RV, you can practically use these external mounts for waste containers or extra fresh water tanks.

Collapsible water containers

While we’re talking about drinking water supply, it’s worth mentioning collapsible water containers. The most common volume is 5 gallon. These are perfect for those trips to more remote locations where you need to store some extra drinking water. When you’ve used up a container, simply collapse them and neatly tuck them away out of sight. These are also handy to bring along to a day excursion around your campsite.

External shower

Another thing you can move outside your rig is the shower. Creating an outdoor shower from a detachable rail and a shower curtain will allow you to shower while another companion is occupying the one inside. Plus, in humid weather, this will minimize moisture buildup in your RV.

Magazine racks

Magazine racks are not too deep, thus they can be screwed on the wall almost anywhere to take advantage of the odds-and-ends free spaces to store small frequently used things, for instance, a small gap between a cabinet and the wall, or the area behind the doors. Each magazine rack is not big, but you will be surprised as to how much stuff you can squeeze into them, and how easily accessible they are.

Command hooks

Command hooks are one of those RV storage ideas that are widely applied in any other space if you want a damage-free solution that allows for versatility. In a small RV or a small apartment, your usage of the space can quickly change over time, and no one wants to screw fresh holes on the wall or cabinet every time. These hooks come with the distinctive adhesive strips that are designed to be removed without any damage to the wall.

To remove the hook, just pull the end of the adhesive strip that sticks out from the hook vertically; it is designed to stretch to the point that it comes off from the surface 100% clean, no stripping of walls or leaving any residue behind. You can buy just the refill adhesive strips and use them to secure from wooden coat hangers to small shelves to the walls or the sides of cabinets.

DIY Weatherproof Outdoor Storage With These Genius Repurposing Ideas

garden hose

Durable and weatherproof storage for areas outside your home can be one of the best ways to keep your yard or garden well-organized. This includes proper spots for everything from gardening tools or pool toys to larger amounts of potting soil, mulch, and rock salt for winter sidewalks. While outdoor storage containers can be costly from home and garden centers, there are a number of much cheaper alternatives that allow you to fashion great outdoor storage from items you may already have hanging around the house. Even better, they are created from upcycled materials that might otherwise be thrown out or wind up in a landfill.

With a little ingenuity, you can make perfect large baskets, containers, and bins to suit all your outdoor needs. Not only are they less expensive, but they are easy to construct. Some only require the upcycled elements like garden hoses, plastic planters, and old plastic bins, as well as easy and accessible supplies like plastic zip ties, spray paint, twine, and other common household materials. They are also completely customizable to your outdoor design aesthetic.

How to make a basket from a hose

Old rubber hoses are perfect to repurpose for a number of outdoor and indoor DIY projects, including this cool tutorial from YouTube DIYer Teddy Craft Gallery, which creates a stylish large basket from an ordinary green garden hose. Begin by wrapping the hose in a spiral around the end nozzle, securing it at each side with a plastic zip tie. Continue to coil the hose until you have formed the desired diameter of the base of your basket. Once you have, begin to layer the coils upward to form the sides of the basket.

When you reach the desired depth, place one last zip tie at the end, then use the remaining hose to form two loops along the top that serve as handles for the basket. This basket is perfect for holding smaller items outdoors in a cute and outdoorsy way. You can also spray paint it another color to fit your outdoor decor.

How to make outdoor lidded bins

If you're looking for covered storage solutions that are weatherproof, you can create a stylish storage bin from a large plastic planter simply by adding a lid.  TikTok user @rebeccaeubanks22 demonstrates how to create a deep bin perfect for storing potting soil and larger items using a simple round piece of wood as a lid. Eubanks adds a handle to the lid first before screwing a hinge to the side that attaches to the planter. This allows you to easily open and close your new storage piece. You can leave your planter unpainted, like Eubanks, or paint the lid a color of your choice and seal it with waterproof sealer.

Other great items to repurpose for outdoor storage are any plastic bin containers you're done using. These bins often hold things like laundry soap and cat litter. Simply clean out the used containers and paint them whatever color you like for durable and airtight storage. Add decorative elements like twine-wrapped handles and stencils, or letter stickers to add additional charm as well.
