The longevity vacation: why bar-hopping holidays are out and extreme wellness breaks are in

When? When I die.

Eh? It’ll become clear. Anyway, I’m going on holiday.

Lovely. Club 18-30 , is it? Actually, Club 18-30 no longer exists . In any case, I’m thinking more like 90-120, if you see what I mean.

Not really. Are you going bar-hopping in Magaluf ? Certainly not.

Is it a trip to Vegas? World capital of debauchery. What happens there stays there, you know. No!

Hedonism on Ibiza? No, it’s 2024, not the 1990s! Debauchery is over, darling.

Oh. So where are you going? On a longevity vacation.

A long holiday? No, a longevity vacation.

Right. What’s that? Part of a growing trend for wellness tourism.

Ah, the W-word, that’s what this is about. What does one do on a longevity vacation? Well, I’m going to the Four Seasons Resort Maui in Hawaii where I’ll be having the longevity protocol.

Which is? “A multi-faceted approach that optimises your body’s natural healing mechanisms and balance.” It comprises “cutting-edge therapies such as ozone, stem cells, exosomes and NAD+”.

I don’t know what all of that is, but it sounds cool . Put me down for one – you’ve got yourself a travel companion ! Great! Just one thing: it costs £35,351.

Oh. You could just have a bit of ozone therapy , where they take out some of your blood, dissolve ozone in it, then put it back.

How much? It’s £964. Or there is the cranial release technique , whereby a chiropractor “works to restore proper function to the nervous system and proper balance to body structure”, for only £225. But this is just one very high-end resort; wellness tourism is spreading all over the world. The Global Wellness Institute expects the market to top $1tn (£800bn) this year.

Anything for the less rich? You can get a biological age test for a couple of hundred quid.

Or I could just look in my passport. Biological age, not chronological. It’s about the rate you are ageing physically.

I’m feeling quite old. But I think that’s because, everywhere I look, people are obsess ed with longevity. What do doctors say? “There isn’t a single proven treatment that would prolong the life of someone who’s already healthy,” Dr Mark Loafman, a family doctor in Chicago, told the Wall Street Journal . “If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.”

Do say: “On second thoughts, I’m just going to eat healthily, run on the beach and swim in the sea.”

Don’t say: “Party like it’s 1999!”

Alyah Chanelle Scott and Reece Feldman might just be Gen Z’s cutest Internet crossover couple.

Scott, a Tony Award-winning producer and actress known for her starring role on HBO’s The Sex Lives of College Girls , soft-launched her relationship with the “FilmTok” creator when the couple took a trip to Nantucket together in August 2023.

Feldman is a production assistant-turned-internet personality who has racked up over two million followers on TikTok , acting as major film studios’ liaison to Gen Z through his comedic film content. Since the duo sparked a romance, there has been no shortage of Instagram and TikTok content of their relationship.

“Me, when she texts me first (we are literally boyfriend-girlfriend and she’s actually answering my previous text),” Feldman captioned a Barbie-themed TikTok video about Scott. Reneé Rapp , Scott’s best friend and SLOCG costar, added her two cents in the comments: “tbh I feel this way about her too.”

For her part, Scott commented on his post, “daddy.”

On the way to the Forbes 30 Under 30 Summit in Cleveland, Ohio, the duo paused to make a cute TikTok video in the airport on October 10, 2023.

“Met this really cute girl in the cleveland airport!!” Felman captioned the video, during which he and Scott lean in for a sweet kiss.

Feldman joined Scott for the opening of Gutenberg! The Musical! on October 12, 2023. Scott produced the musical, which stars Josh Gad and Andrew Rannells .

Hailie Jade Scott 's wedding countdown has officially begun!

Ahead of her nuptials with fiancé Evan McClintock , the 28-year-old influencer began her bachelorette party with a boat ride in Tampa Bay, Fla.

Scott — who is the daughter of rapper Eminem — wore a white two-piece bikini as she posed for photos shared on Instagram on Wednesday, April 17.

The first photo shows the Just a Little Shady  podcast host sitting front and center of the bow of the boat with a group of her closest gal pals wearing matching black bathing suits.

The bride-to-be gently grabbed onto her white straw hat as she smiled at her sister Alaina Marie Scott . In another photo, Scott poses for a solo picture with the clear, blue ocean water shining behind her.

"Tampa baes 🤍🌴," she wrote in the caption.

Before leaving on the trip, Scott shared with her TikTok followers a look at the gift bags she was prepping for her friends which included a towel, sweatshirt, and a makeup bag filled with an assortment of accessories.

Scott also gave her social media followers a look at her own packing preparations.

She shared a Tiktok video on Monday, April 15, that offered a glimpse of the clothes, swimwear, shoes, and accessories she was bringing along as she explained her meticulous process for organizing and maximizing space in her suitcase.

Some of her other bachelorette travel essentials included a white noise machine, a music speaker, and an organizer containing her medications and supplements.

Scott and McClintock, who first met as students at Michigan State University, got engaged in February 2023 after six years of dating. She announced the happy news on  Instagram at the time, sharing photos from the proposal, including a shot of McClintock down on one knee in front of her and a snap of the couple enjoying some celebratory champagne together.

Scott captioned the post, "Casual weekend recap… 😭💗 2.4.23 💍 I love you  @evanmcclintock11 ."

In May 2023, the couple celebrated their engagement with an elegant rooftop party in Detroit. That day, Scott posted an Instagram makeup tutorial that showed her getting ready for the soirée.

"I'm going pretty natural on the eye makeup because I'm actually doing a few outfit changes," she explained at the time. "We're doing our engagement pictures before the party since we're already going to be getting ready, so it just made sense."

Prince Andrew's 2019 BBC interview is now the subject of a Netflix film.

"The big get." In media lingo, that means the interview with the person at the center of a big story.

Think Monica Lewinsky after her affair with then-president Clinton, or the actor Alec Baldwin after the cinematographer was shot and killed on the set of his movie. Or Britain's Prince Andrew after his friend Jeffrey Epstein was arrested on sex trafficking charges.

Interviews like these can entail months of negotiations, calls, emails and meetings to persuade that person to go on the record. That is what happened in 2019, when BBC journalist Emily Maitlis sat down with Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, at Buckingham Palace.

Then-BBC Newsnight booker Sam McAlister had spent almost a year talking to Prince Andrew's private secretary and the prince himself. The result was an infamous interview in which Prince Andrew described Epstein's actions as "unbecoming," said the financier's home was a "convenient place to stay" during a trip to New York, and said he had a condition that meant he couldn't sweat.

The booking and the interview have now been dramatized in the new Netflix film Scoop, released this month. McAlister spoke with All Things Considered host Mary Louise Kelly about how she got the interview, and how she kept a poker face as the interview played out before her eyes.

Mary Louise Kelly: So your task was not only landing the interview — talking the palace and the prince into doing this — but talking them into doing a serious news interview where they would not be able to vet or control the questions in any way. Walk us through the argument that persuaded them. What did you say?

Sam McAlister: Well, there's a double argument, right? Here is a man who used to be effectively a national hero in the United Kingdom. He was the beloved son of the Queen, her favorite son by all accounts, a war hero. And now he was effectively a problem prince at best. And then, on the more pretentious level, of course, there was a view of Prince Andrew about him and his behaviors and the allegations against him, which, of course, he strenuously denies. But it was a double opportunity: a human opportunity to return to the life he had, and a royal opportunity to basically restore his reputation in some ways. So I feel it was those two things that made this really a dream opportunity, at least on paper, for him.

Kelly : Was there a moment in the negotiations where you could tell, "I got him?" Like, that just landed. He's going to do it.

McAlister : There was a moment where I thought we might have him. The last negotiation is face to face with Prince Andrew and a surprise guest, his daughter Princess Beatrice, in Buckingham Palace. I mean, you can imagine how overwhelming that was. It was about two hours long. I felt we had a rapport. Emily, the presenter, was also there and Stuart Maclean, who was the deputy editor. And at that moment of rapport, there's a moment of peril, and there's a moment of chance. And I said something quite bold. I told him the truth, which was always my style, that he was known as "Randy Andy."

And that moment is really where he's [either] going to laugh, and he knows that we have integrity and trust and we're honest with him, or he's going to slam the door in our face. Now, luckily it was the former. But you never, ever know if someone's going to say yes until you get that final call.

Kelly : So you get the yes. The interview is taking place. The prince's answers are sounding increasingly tone deaf, let me put it that way. Take me to that room. Where are you, and what is going through your mind?

McAlister : Oh, my gosh. So I'm about 15 feet behind him. And I used to be a criminal lawyer, and I used to represent people accused of all kinds of things. And one of the great skills of that world is poker face. And thank goodness for poker face — 15 feet behind those incredible answers, trying not to show any emotion, trying not to communicate any panic or fear or consternation. And all I can see is the back of his head. So I saw the front of him for the first time when it went out a couple of days later. But it really was a masterclass in how to give terrible answers and, from my tiny perspective, a small, personal masterclass in showing no emotion whatsoever on your face for an hour — one of the longest hours in television history, I would say.

Kelly : I mean, was there a moment where you're thinking, "Oh, my God, this is just going completely off the rails?"

McAlister : I think it was almost every moment. It was like building. And after the first answer, which was his mildest answer, every line was a news line. Just watching them kind of pile on top of one another over and over. It was really journalistically, obviously, the highlight of my career and quite an extraordinary experience.

Kelly: Well, the fallout, the consequences from this interview were almost immediate. Just a few days afterward, Prince Andrew stepped back from royal duties. Did you have a sense, even as the interview was unfolding, like, this is going to have just extraordinary consequences?

McAlister : I knew it was huge. I'm not going to lie. I knew how consequential it was in theory. But the idea that it would topple a member of the royal family, effectively — you know, sacked by his own mother and we'd still be talking about it, let alone that I would have the opportunity of this incredible movie — it would have sounded like I was drunk if I'd said that to you. So I knew it was a scoop, but I just did not know it was the scoop of scoops.

TikTok Notes starts rolling out as a new rival to Instagram

TikTok has started rolling out its Instagram rival, TikTok Notes, to select Android and iOS users “for download and limited testing in Australia and Canada.” A tweet announcing the launch , as well as the App Store and Google Play listings, showed off some official images of the app that offer insights about how it works for those of us who don’t have access yet.

In them, we see that you can write up headlines for images above your captions, which is a feature Instagram doesn’t natively offer.

The homepage also seems to be divided into two sections, with a separate page where you can view posts from people you follow and another “For You” page. It’s organized a bit like Pinterest’s homepage but with a smaller, two-column grid. It’s not clear whose posts are highlighted here, but it’s likely accounts similar to the ones you follow TikTok thinks you might like.

Besides these small tweaks, though, the app is very similar to Instagram, which is a change from the usual. For years, Meta’s been the one copying other social media platforms like TikTok with Reels and Snapchat with Stories. With TikTok Notes, though, TikTok looks like it’s copying back.

TikTok announced the new photo-sharing app earlier this month via a  notification   sent to users . At the time, it didn’t provide many details about the app beyond calling it TikTok Notes and suggested TikTok would populate it with users’ existing and future public TikTok photo posts unless they opt out.

It’s uncertain when TikTok will roll the app out to the US and elsewhere.

Missouri Baseball Closes Road Trip with a 6-2 Win Over Missouri State

The Tigers take the victory against an in-state foe before they head back to Columbia.

After a couple game break, the Missouri Tigers went right back to taking the lead in the first inning.

This time, they never gave it up. Missouri took the 6-2 win against a fellow Show-Me State team in Missouri State.

Sophomore left fielder Brock Daniels put a single to left field and then advanced to third on a throwing error. Freshman center fielder Kaden Peer followed up with another single center that brought Daniels home. Another mistake on Missouri State's part allowed Peer to get to third and then score on sophomore designated hitter Jackson Lovich's single to center.

The Tigers offense kept rolling in the second inning with a two-run shot from freshman catcher Mateo Serna that left the field in center. In the top fourth inning, junior first baseman Danny Corona was hit-by-pitch and advanced on a wild pitch before he came around to score on freshman shortstop Drew Culbertson's single to left. This put Missouri up by five before the end of the fourth inning.

After dropping to just a four-run lead in the fifth, Lovich brought another run across in the top of the seventh with a solo home run to center to bring the deficit back to five. The five-run difference didn't stay for the rest of the game.

Through 4 1/3 innings, sophomore starting pitcher Daniel Wissler sent Bears back to their dugout with little struggle. He allowed just four singles through his first four innings that Missouri State couldn't put together for a run. Wissler struck out four and put up no walks in his start.

Graduate reliever Jacob Peaden came into the fifth inning with one out and a runner 90 feet from home, but wasn't able to keep him there. A sacrifice fly from the first batter that Peaden faced put Missouri state on the board. His trip to the mound was brief, as he was replaced with junior Victor Quinn for the sixth inning.

It was not a very strong outing from Quinn, he walked two and hit a batter to load the bases. Next up to the plate was former Tiger catcher Dylan Leach. But Quinn was able to come out of the inning unscathed with the help of a strikeout of Leach.

The Tigers went to their bullpen once more and sophomore Brock Lucas, who put up a clean inning but was then replaces by freshman Charlie Miller for the eighth. Miller was instantly met with a solo home run to center and then went on to load the bases, forcing the Tigers to get senior Ian Lohse with only one out in the inning. Lohse quickly got a double play to save the runs from scoring in the eighth and then closed with a scoreless ninth.

Missouri's record improves to 17-21, while Missouri State drops to 15-20. The Tigers will return home to face LSU this weekend.
