Star Trek: Voyager - Episode Guide - Season 4

This is when Voyager becomes assimilated – not merely by Borg- and Borg technology-centered episodes, but also by the new character Seven of Nine herself.

Stealing the drone through whom the Borg communicated with voyager’s crew during the season-opening battle with Species 8472. In return, the so-called “Seven of Nine” rapidly begins stealing the show, along with the companionship of the Doctor; these two characters essentially become a fragmented Data, i.e. the mouthpiece for outsiders to learn human culture.

The introduction of Seven to the cast also results in the swift ejection of Kes from Star Trek: Voyager, regrettable only in that she didn’t take freakin’ Neelix with her…

1. Scorpion, Part II – A Borg drone is assigned to work with Janeway, Tuvok and the Voyager crew, who come up with an ingenious biological weapon to use against Species 8472. Naturally, the Borg rapidly renege on the deal (shocker!), but Janeway et al are way too clever to completely trust them. ****

2. The Gift – Kes is rapidly “changing” and “becoming something else” (namely expendable with the arrival of Seven of Nine), so her psychokinetic abilities are running amok. The last few minutes with Janeway and Kes running down corridors become unintentionally hilarious if you imagine the explosions are a bombardment from the producers trying to get Kes off the damn show already … **

3. Day of Honor – B’Elanna plays out the events of the Police song “Any Other Day” except on a starship and involving her refusal to complete a Klingon rite of passage. **

4. Nemesis – Not to be confused with the godawful tenth Star Trek movie, “Nemesis” instead tells a strange tale of Chakotay’s informal enlistment into a guerilla war. ***

5. Revulsion – Torres and The Doctor board an alien ship which had sent a distress signal . The sole survivor is a clearly deranged hologram; the whole thing descends into psycho killer mode quickly and, together with “Prototype” serves as a cautionary tale for B’Elanna: Never board an alien ship which is not populated by humanoids. ***

6. The Raven – Slowly becoming biologically more human, Seven has strange visions composed of memories of her time as a drone mixed with symbolic remembrances of her childhood. ***

7. Scientific Method – A dark and über-creepy story about aliens who can walk freely among the specimens of various species upon which they experiment. When Seven finally sees (literally) the reality of the situation on Voyager, it’s almost enough to send her scrabbling back to the collective. ***

8. Year of Hell, Part I – A race with control over time resets history in a region of space through which Voyager is passing. The result is a vast empire “defended” by ships with superior technology to Voyager’s, and months upon months of continuous attacks. Meanwhile, Chakotay and Paris are captured by the “timeship” manipulating history repeatedly. ***

9. Year of Hell, Part II – A seriously shredded Voyager takes refuge in a nebula (good old nebula!) to enact repairs. Aboard the timeship, Chakotay finally sees the egocentric nature of the captain’s ways. They manage to restore the timeline which began this leg of the voyage (or at least close enough) and even provide the captain which a more productive life in the reset universe. ***

10. Random Thoughts – On a world where violent thoughts themselves are forbidden, B’Elanna is busted for just such crimethink. Seeing Tuvok solve a whodunit mystery is always cool, but the suspense in this one is ruined fairly early by a very small cast. ***

11.  Concerning Flight – Components of Voyager as well as Janeway’s hologram of Leonardo da Vinci are (rather easily) stolen and about to be fleeced on the black market. So Janeway and Da Vinci save the day, escaping via a magical glider which hypnotizes pursuers into not shooting from 60 or so feet away. **

12. Mortal Coil – A freak accident kills Neelix, and when Seven unfortunately revives him 10 hours later, he whines about the lack of afterlife. *

13. Waking Moments – A trippy (literally) episode featuring a race with yet another unique spin on the invasion plan: These guys put their prey into a shard dream state and have their way in the dream world. Naturally, Chakotay and his very sloppily defined indigenous abilities help save the day. ***

14. Message in a Bottle – Voyager finds an apparently abandoned subspace communications network. They locate a Federation starship in the Alpha Quadrant and send the Doctor through. Upon arrival, he discovers that Romulans have taken the ship, with only he and the ship’s own, more advanced, EMH. Hilarious interplay between the Doctors combines nicely with the general suspense of the episode. ****.

15. Hunters – Introducing the Hirogen, a rather unstable-seeming nomad species which is obsessed with eternally hunting “lesser species.” In “Hunters,” the Federation uses a Hirogen communication network to transmit a detailed message to Voyager. The Hirogen soon demand that Voyager cease using the network and shortly after *that* begin the shooting war… **

16. Prey – Species 8472 is back … or at least one weak and wounded member of ‘em is. Hirogen hunters think they have the fluidic beastie captured, but just one survives to be treated aboard the Enterprise. The 8472er has followed the hunter to Voyager, however, and the battle resumes. Janeway and Seven have a tiff over how the 8472 should be dealt with. ***

17. Retrospect – What starts as an intriguing-looking whodunit turns into an underdone script with the Voyager bridge crew all ultimately blaming the victim; in this case, it’s Seven, who has vivid memories of a trader stealing Borg technology out of her body. 0

18-19. The Killing Game – Now here’s how you do a holodeck story. Hirogen take over Voyager and force the crew to play out various war scenarios. Most of the action takes place in a Casablanca-feeling French village. Nazis and aliens as bad guys? Vive la resistance? Seven first as a lounge singer, then as hero? The Doctor doing Doctor things? Klingons verses Nazi troops? Nice. *****

20. Vis à Vis – An alien requesting assistance with his ship gets on board Voyager and performs the ol’ body-swapping trip with Paris. Pretty standard stuff here. **

21. The Omega Directive –Voyager encounters incredibly explosive omega particles and Janeway is under standing orders to destroy all such particles regardless of circumstances. ***

22. Unforgettable – An alien contacts Voyager – and specifically Chakotay – in an effort to gain political asylum with Voyager and the Federation. Naturally, she’s (all together now) not all that she seems! ****

23. Living Witness – An absolutely fascinating look at the distortions of history and dogma. Some 700 years in the future, the EMH is reinitialized on a Delta Quadrant world and the Doctor pressed by a local historian for details of the EEEEvil Voyager crew. His mere telling of the truth, however, has a profound effect on the planet’s peoples. A great twist and satisfying ending, too. ****

24. Demon – Paris and Kim head down to a “Demon-class” planet for fuel, only to find a bizarre substance which they ultimately identify as “biomimetic fluid.” Standard “life but not as we know it” kinda stuff, but a stunning payoff for this episode does come … about one season later. **

25. One – From season 4 on, one can’t blame the uninitiated for thinking of Star Trek: Voyager as the “Doctor and Seven Show.” This episode serves as prime example of the phenomenon. So as to pass through a nebula cram-packed with lethal radiation, all Voyager crew except Seven and (naturally) The Doctor are put into stasis. Eventually the Doctor shuts down as well, leaving Seven to fend for her own against loneliness – and other dangers. ***

26. Hope and Fear – Quite an interesting and heady episode, if you’re willing to look past some rather obvious plot holes. An alien with an otherworldly (sorry) talent for languages helps Voyager decode certain tricky bits of the message Voyager received in “Hunters” – or does he? Despite the improbability of several plot devices in “Hope and Fear”, some good questions regarding Janeway’s decisions emerge – and, upon consideration, the baddie here isn’t totally unjustified in his actions. ***

Hope and Fear

  • Episode aired May 20, 1998

  • Goofs When Captain Janeway discovered the deception that the alien had made she goes to get weapons when it would've been more effective to transport the alien to the brig on Voyager and ask the questions there.

Arturis : You negotiated an agreement with the Borg Collective: safe passage through their space, and in return you helped them defeat one of their enemies.

Seven of Nine : Species 8472.

Arturis : In your colorful language, yes, Species 8472. Did it ever occur to you that there were those of us in the Delta Quadrant with a vested interest in that war? Victory would have meant annihilation of the Borg, but you couldn't see beyond the bow of your own ship!

Capt. Kathryn Janeway : In my estimation, Species 8472 posed a greater threat than the Borg.

Arturis : Who are you to make that decision? A stranger to this quadrant!

Capt. Kathryn Janeway : There wasn't exactly time to take a poll. I had to act quickly.

Arturis : My people managed to elude the Borg for centuries - outwitting them, always one step ahead - but in recent years, the Borg began to weaken our defenses, they were closing in, and Species 8472 was our last hope to defeat them. You took that away from us! The outer colonies were the first to fall, twenty-three in a matter of hours. Our sentry vessels tossed aside, no defense against the storm, and, by the time they surrounded our star system, hundreds of cubes. We had already surrendered to our own terror. A few of us managed to survive - ten, twenty thousand. I was fortunate, I escaped with a vessel, alone, but alive. I don't blame them. They were just drones, acting with their collective instinct. You! You had a choice!

Star Trek: Voyager Season 4 Episode 20

Ep 20. Vis a Vis

  • 6.6   (1,621)

Captain Janeway and the crew of the USS Voyager come across a strange alien race known as the Tak Tak while exploring an uncharted planet. The Tak Tak are interested in conducting trade negotiations with Voyager, but due to their unique physiology, they require a representative from Voyager to communicate with them directly, using a device the Tak Tak call a "telepresence suit."

Tom Paris volunteers to don the suit and represent Voyager, but soon after he begins using it, he is abducted by an alien named Steth who possesses the ability to take on the physical appearance and memories of anyone he touches. Steth takes on Tom's appearance and infiltrates Voyager, attempting to steal vital information and technology from the crew. He also takes advantage of Tom's relationships with B'Elanna Torres and Harry Kim, manipulating them for his own gain.

When Voyager realizes that Steth has taken Tom's place, they launch an investigation to discover the truth and rescue their crewmember. In the meantime, the real Tom is trapped in Steth's lair, trying to find a way to escape and get back to Voyager.

As the crew races against time to stop Steth and save Tom, they must also grapple with the question of identity and what it means to be oneself. The episode explores the themes of trust, betrayal, and the importance of having a strong sense of self, even in the face of adversity.

With its complex plot and thought-provoking themes, "Vis a Vis" is a standout episode in the fourth season of Star Trek: Voyager. It showcases the strong character development of the crew and their ability to work together in the face of danger. Fans of science fiction and classic Star Trek will appreciate the intricate storytelling and unexpected plot twists.

8 Alpha Quadrant Things Star Trek: Voyager Found In Delta Quadrant

  • Star Trek: Voyager finds familiar things from the Alpha Quadrant in the Delta Quadrant, sparking important questions and connections.
  • Encounter with Ferengi negotiators leads Voyager crew to stop their interference in a pre-warp civilization for profits.
  • Janeway and crew discover humans abducted by aliens in the 1930s living in the Delta Quadrant, including Amelia Earhart.

For a show with the conceit of being so far from home, Star Trek: Voyager found a surprising number of things in the Delta Quadrant that originated in the Alpha Quadrant, including several from Earth itself. The USS Voyager, commanded by Captain Kathryn Janeway (Kate Mulgrew), and Commander Chakotay's (Robert Beltran) Maquis raider Val Jean were both brought to the Delta Quadrant in 2371 by the Caretaker (Basil Langton). After Janeway destroyed the Caretaker's array to save the Ocampa , Voyager and the Val Jean were left without a ticket back to the Alpha Quadrant, and banded together to make the long journey.

Finding something familiar in an otherwise totally alien corner of the galaxy brought a sense of familiarity to the USS Voyager crew and viewers at home alike, but the presence of something from the Alpha Quadrant in the Delta Quadrant inevitably raised important questions , like how familiar people and objects traveled 70,000 light years from home in the first place, and whether the find could lead Captain Kathryn Janeway towards a quicker path home to Earth.

Star Trek: Voyagers 20 Best Episodes Ranked

A pair of ferengi negotiators, arridor and kol, star trek: voyager season 3, episode 5 "false profits".

The USS Voyager encounters a pair of Ferengi negotiators, Arridor (Dan Shor) and Kol (Leslie Jordan), who claim to be the prophesied Great Sages of the Takarians, a society with Bronze Age level technology. The Ferengi have no Prime Directive to deter them from interfering with the Takarians' development , so they're performing "miracles" with a standard replicator to reap the monetary benefits of the Takarians' worship. Voyager's crew know the Ferengi reputation well enough to know they're no Sages, so they must figure out how to put a stop to Arridor and Kol's grift.

"False Profits" serves as a Star Trek sequel episode to Star Trek: The Next Generation season 3, episode 8 "The Price", as Voyager catches up with Arridor and Kol (formerly played by J. R. Quinonez) seven years after their Delta Quadrant arrival. The Ferengi took a test flight through the supposedly stable wormhole near Barzan II, which was supposed to emerge in the Gamma Quadrant, but instead stranded the Ferengi in the Delta Quadrant, where they made the best of their situation as only Ferengi can.

Star Trek: Voyager Season 3, Episode 23 "Distant Origin"

"Distant Origin" opens on Forra Gegen (Henry Woronicz), a scientist who discovers that his people, the Voth, share certain genetic similarities with the humans aboard the USS Voyager. While this confirms Gegen's theory that the Voth are the descendants of a species brought to their homeworld millions of years ago , religious leader Minister Odala (Concetta Tomei) refuses to accept the truth. Even with Commander Chakotay present as a living specimen of humanity, Odala pushes Gegen to recant, because Gegen's theory goes against the Voth Doctrine that keeps Odala in power.

After meeting Gegen's assistant, Tova Veer (Christopher Liam Moore), Janeway and the Doctor use the holodeck as a research guide to extrapolate how hadrosaurs might look in the 24th century if they'd been able to evolve into a humanoid form with comparable intelligence. The result resembles Veer, so Janeway and the Doctor conclude, like Gegen, that the Voth evolved from hadrosaurs into a highly advanced species on Earth , then fled to the Delta Quadrant in spacefaring vessels instead of being wiped out with the other dinosaurs.

The Friendship One Probe

Star trek: voyager season 7, episode 21 "friendship one".

By Star Trek: Voyager season 7 , the USS Voyager is in regular contact with Starfleet Command, and Starfleet gives Voyager a mission to retrieve a 21st-century Earth probe, Friendship One . The probe proves difficult to find, but once discovered on an alien planet suffering devastating climate collapse, the implications of Friendship One's launch become clear. Besides the irreversible damage to the planet's climate, the inhabitants are all suffering from radiation sickness, and bear understandable hostility towards Earth, because the aliens believe humans orchestrated their destruction with the Friendship One probe.

The United Earth Space Probe Agency was one of the early names for the organization the USS Enterprise belongs to in the Star Trek: The Original Series episode, "Charlie X".

Friendship One was launched in 2067 by the United Earth Space Probe Agency with the intention of making friends with whomever found it, as the name implies. Although Friendship One, the 400-year-old Earth probe, traveled for centuries carrying messages of peace, musical recordings, and ways to translate languages, the people who discovered Friendship One in the Delta Quadrant took a greater interest in the antimatter it used to travel across space. Without the proper knowledge of its use, antimatter proved devastating to the planet and its people, resulting in death and disease for generations.

Dreadnought, a Cardassian Missile

Star trek: voyager season 2, episode 17 "dreadnought".

The USS Voyager discovers a dangerously powerful, self-guided Cardassian missile in the Delta Quadrant, which Lt. B'Elanna Torres (Roxann Dawson) recognizes as one nicknamed "Dreadnought" . When B'Elanna was with the Maquis, Torres had actually reprogrammed the missile herself, with the intention of turning the Cardassians' own weapon against them. Without a Cardassian target in sight, the artificially intelligent Cardassian Dreadnought targets a heavily-populated Class-M planet , Rakosa V. B'Elanna determines she must be the one to keep Dreadnought from hurting anyone else, and boards the missile to convince it to stand down.

While no concrete reason is given for exactly how the Dreadnought wound up in the Delta Quadrant, its last known location in the Alpha Quadrant was the Badlands, the same rough patch of space where Voyager and the Val Jean, Chakotay's Maquis raider, fatefully met. Because of this, Torres theorizes that Dreadnought arrived in the Delta Quadrant the same way that Voyager and the Val Jean did , courtesy of the Caretaker.

Star Trek: Voyagers BElanna Is More Klingon Than TNGs Worf Ever Was

A klingon d-7 class cruiser, complete with klingons, star trek: voyager, season 7, episode 14 "prophecy".

The USS Voyager certainly never expected to find a Klingon ship in the Delta Quadrant, but more surprising is the fact that the crew of the Klingon D-7 Class Cruiser believes their savior, the prophesied kuvah'magh, is aboard Voyager . Janeway assures the Klingon captain, Kohlar (Wren T. Brown), that the Federation and Klingon Empire have been allies for the past 80 years, and offers Voyager's own half-Klingon, Lt. B'Elanna Torres, as proof their societies are working together now. The kuvah'magh is Torres' unborn daughter, who does save the Klingons, but not the way they expected.

Centuries ago, Kohlar's great-grandfather set off on a quest to find the kuvah'magh, and the Klingon D-7 Cruiser became a generation ship that is now crewed by the descendants of its original crew . The quest begun by Kohlar's great-grandfather brought Kohlar and his crew to the Delta Quadrant after four generations of searching. Whether B'Elanna's child is actually the kuvah'magh or not, Kohlar desperately wants the baby to be their savior, so that his people may finally rest.

Amelia Earhart

Star trek: voyager season 2, episode 1 "the 37s".

The discovery of a 1936 Ford truck, seemingly disconnected from any parent vehicle, leads the USS Voyager to a nearby Class-L planet, where they find eight humans who have been in cryo-stasis since they were abducted by aliens in the 1930s. Among them are one of Janeway's personal heroes, legendary American aviator Amelia Earhart (Sharon Lawrence) , who disappeared without a trace while attempting to fly around the world, and Earhart's navigator, Fred Noonan (David Graf). Earhart and the other preserved humans are known by the planet's inhabitants as "The 37s", and revered as sacred.

Originally thought to be aliens, the natives of the unnamed planet are the descendants of humans. A species called the Briori abducted the natives' ancestors, along with Earhart and the other 37s, from Earth centuries earlier , and took them to the Delta Quadrant. Once held as slaves, the humans who weren't in stasis revolted to free themselves from the Briori, and developed a thriving, Earth-like civilization in the Delta Quadrant. Voyager's crew consider staying with the humans in their little slice of home, while Janeway also offers a ride back to Earth to anyone who wants it, including Amelia Earhart.

The USS Equinox

Star trek: voyager season 5, episode 26 & season 6, episode 1 "equinox".

The crew of the USS Voyager believe they're the only Starfleet vessel in the Delta Quadrant until they find the USS Equinox, five years into their journey home. Captain Rudolph Ransom (John Savage) and the Equinox crew have had a harder time in the Delta Quadrant than Voyager, with more damage, fewer starting resources, and fewer opportunities to make friends along the way. Ransom's survival tactics include sacrificing innocent nucleogenic life forms for a more efficient form of fuel, which Janeway finds hard to stomach, and decides that Ransom needs to be held accountable for defying Federation ideals, regardless of how badly the Equinox is damaged.

Although Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) suggests that the Equinox might be in the Delta Quadrant on a rescue mission to find Voyager, the USS Equinox's specs don't fit the profile of a starship that would be assigned to a long-range mission. The explanation of how the Equinox arrived in the Delta Quadrant in the first place seems fairly simple, because Captain Ransom tells Janeway that the Equinox was also abducted by the Caretaker , just like Voyager, but the Equinox has only been in the Delta Quadrant for 2 years, and Janeway destroyed the Caretaker's array 5 years earlier.

Seven of Nine

Debuts in star trek: voyager season 4, episode 1 "scorpion, part 2".

When Captain Kathryn Janeway allies with the Borg in order to secure safe passage across Borg space, Janeway refuses the cursory assimilation that the Borg want to use to communicate with Janeway and Voyager's crew, and instead requests a speaker for the Borg, citing the existence of Locutus (Patrick Stewart) as precedent. Seven of Nine , Tertiary Adjunct of Unimatrix 01, is selected as the Borg drone to act as liaison between the Collective and Voyager, likely because Seven of Nine had once been a member of Species 5168, like most of Voyager's crew -- in other words, human.

Voyager season 5, episodes 15 & 16, "Dark Frontier" provides even more detail of the Hansens' fateful journey.

After Seven's link with the Collective is severed, more information about Seven's human origin comes to light. In Voyager season 4, episode 6 "The Raven", when Voyager nears the Hansens' ship, the USS Raven, memories of Seven's early life surface, revealing that Seven had been six-year-old human Annika Hansen , the daughter of Magnus Hansen (Kirk Baily) and Erin Hansen (Laura Stepp), Federation scientists who were studying the Borg when they were assimilated. Voyager season 5, episodes 15 & 16, "Dark Frontier" provides even more detail of the Hansens' fateful journey, showing the Raven arriving in the Delta Quadrant by following a Borg Cube through a transwarp conduit.

10 Ways USS Voyager Changed In Star Treks Delta Quadrant

Star Trek: Voyager links back to the greater Star Trek universe with people and starships from the Alpha Quadrant. Connections to the familiar were especially important early on, because Voyager 's place in the Star Trek franchise was established and aided by the legitimacy these finds offered. Later, when the USS Voyager used the Hirogen communications array to communicate with Starfleet Command, links back to the Alpha Quadrant were plentiful again, not only to prove that the USS Voyager was closer to home, but to help Star Trek: Voyager maintain connections to Star Trek and carry the franchise in its final years.

Star trek: discovery season 5, episode 1 ending & tng treasure explained.

Star Trek: Discovery season 5's premiere dropped a bombshell that ties all the way back to Star Trek: The Next Generation. We break it down.

Warning: SPOILERS for Star Trek: Discovery Season 5, Episode 1 - "Red Directive"

  • Star Trek: Discovery season 5 reveals a bombshell treasure hunt that ties back to Star Trek: TNG "The Chase."
  • Mysterious villains Moll and L'ak create chaos, leaving behind a trail of destruction on Kumal.
  • Captain Saru to become a Federation Ambassador, leading to the first Kelpien-Vulcan wedding in Star Trek history.

The ending of Star Trek: Discovery 's exhilarating season 5 premiere dropped a jaw-dropping bombshell that the treasure Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) is hunting for comes from Star Trek: The Next Generation season 6, episode 20, "The Chase." Written by Discovery showrunner Michelle Paradise and directed by Olatunde Osunsanmi, Discovery 's season 5 premiere, "Red Directive," introduces three new major characters, the villains Moll (Eve Harlow) and L'ak (Elias Toufexis), and Starfleet Captain Rayner (Callum Keith Rennie), and sets up Discovery season 5 as a sequel to the classic TNG episode about who created humanoid life in the galaxy - and how .

Moll and L'ak escaped the clutches of Captain Burnham, Captain Rayner, and Cleveland Booker (David Ajala) on the desert world of Q'Mau. After a synthetic merchant named Fred (J. Adam Brown) opened a Romulan puzzle box Moll and L'ak stole from an 800-year-old Romulan starship , Fred double-crossed Moll and L'ak and was killed by the renegade lovers. L'ak and Moll then detonated an explosive in the mountains, creating an avalanche. The combined shields of the USS Discovery and the USS Antares protected the people of Kumal, but Moll and L'ak escaped with the Romulans' journal. However, Captain Burnham knows more than the rogues do about the treasure thanks to Discovery's crew. And, as Lt. Sylvia Tilly (Mary Wiseman) said, the answers are wild.

Star Trek: Discovery Season 5 - Everything We Know

Star trek: discovery season 5's treasure & progenitors explained, who were the progenitors in star trek: tng's "the chase".

"The greatest treasure in the known galaxy" in Star Trek: Discovery season 5 is the technology Ancient Humanoids used to create sentient humanoid life. A hologram of an Ancient Humanoid (Salome Jens) was encountered by Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart), members of the USS Enterprise-D crew, as well as a group of Romulans, Klingons, and Cardassians in Star Trek: The Next Generation 's "The Chase". The Ancient Humanoid revealed that her long-dead race seeded the galaxy billions of years ago to create humanoid life forms in their image, and that the humanoid species in Star Trek 's galaxy share a common ancestry.

"The Chase" was Star Trek: The Next Generation 's attempt to explain why so many aliens in Star Trek are essentially humans with bumpy foreheads and physical variations.

Star Trek: Discovery season 5's premiere reveals that the United Federation of Planets and Dr. Kovich (David Cronenberg) dubbed the Ancient Humanoids "The Progenitors". 800 years ago, a Romulan scientist named Dr. Vellek (Michael Copeman) found and hid the Progenitors' technology, which can literally create life and would be catastrophic if it fell into the wrong hands . However, Moll and L'ak (and, logically, whoever hired them) learned about the Progenitors' technology. The ability to create, and possibly destroy, humanoid species is an existential threat to the galaxy, which is why the Federation needs Captain Burnham to find it first.

In Star Trek: Discovery season 5's premiere, President T'Rina (Tara Rosling) said the Tholian Republic and the Breen Imperium are rising, and they could be looking for the Progenitors' technology.

Moll & L'ak Keep Escaping, But Who Are They?

Star trek: discovery's new villains are a mystery..

Star Trek: Discovery season 5's version of Bonnie and Clyde, the villainous Moll and L'ak are mysterious former couriers who have had several past encounters with Captain Rayner of the USS Antares. Moll is human but L'ak is an unknown species with no known information in the Federation database. They are also hired guns, so they must have an employer yet to be revealed.

While little is revealed about Moll and L'ak, what is clear is they are lovers with deep affection for each other. Cleveland Booker doesn't know Moll and L'ak from his years as a courier, but he could tell by the way they escaped from the USS Discovery and USS Antares that L'ak and Moll are in love and are having fun together. In a way, Moll and L'ak are an echo of what Book and Michael Burnham were like when they were couriers traveling the galaxy together in the year before the USS Discovery arrived in the 32nd century.

Saru Will Become A Federation Ambassador & Marry T'Rina

Wedding bells are coming to star trek: discovery..

Captain Saru accepts Federation President Laira Rillak's (Chelah Horsdal) offer to become a Federation Ambassador. Saru has been serving as First Officer of the USS Discovery despite his higher rank since Star Trek: Discovery season 4, but being Captain Burnham's Number One is not really a role that utilizes the Kelpien's skills and potential. Saru also chose to leave Discovery and become an Ambassador to be closer to his love, President T'Rina.

Star Trek: Discovery season 5 will soon have the first Kelpien-Vulcan wedding and the first wedding between 2 major Star Trek characters in 22 years.

Originally, T'Rina told Saru not to factor her into his decision to take the Ambassador position, but she actually wanted Saru to leave Discovery, which would allow them to spend more time together. And T'rina went a step further and proposed to Saru in a very Vulcan-like fashion, suggesting they "codify our mutual agreement in a more official capacity". Saru seemed to say yes, which means Star Trek: Discovery season 5 will soon have the first Kelpien-Vulcan wedding and the first wedding between 2 major Star Trek characters in 22 years since Will Riker (Jonathan Frakes) married Deanna Tro i (Marina Sirtis) in Star Trek: Nemesis.

Burnham & Book Are Still Broken Up

They should have called each other..

Star Trek: Discovery 's top love story, Michael Burnham and Cleveland Booker , didn't quite heat up in season 5's premiere. Burnham and Book have been separated (but with no hard feelings) ever since Book commenced his penance for the Federation after breaking multiple laws to destroy the Dark Matter Anomaly in Star Trek: Discovery season 4. Burnham turned to Book for his courier expertise to help her catch Moll and L'ak , and if she's honest, because she wanted to see Book again.

Michael and Book agreed not to restart their relationship.

Book remains penitent and is committed to righting his wrongs with the Federation and with Michael, but there is now an understandable awkwardness between them. Book has a role to play on the USS Discovery as long as Moll and L'ak are at large , but on Kumal, Michael and Book agreed not to restart their relationship. However, this isn't the end of Burnham and Booker's love story, and it's hard to imagine they won't get back together at some point in Star Trek: Discovery season 5.

Captain Rayner Is No Fan Of Burnham

What is rayner's problem.

Star Trek: Discovery season 5 introduced Callum Keith Rennie's Captain Rayner of the USS Antares as a new series regular character, and he brings a new dynamic to the show. Gruff, impatient, and no-nonsense, Rayner evokes previous hardliner Star Trek Captains like Captain Edward Jellico (Ronny Cox) in Star Trek: The Next Generation. Rayner is also resentful of Captain Burnham for some reason , and he finds humor in mocking Michael, asserting his command authority, and countermanding her orders.

Rayner seems jealous of the USS Discovery's spore drive, and he mentions his displeasure that he doesn't have a Pathway Drive on the USS Antares.

Although it wasn't mentioned or factored into Star Trek: Discovery season 5's premiere, Captain Rayner is a Kellerun , a species first introduced in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine season 2's "Armageddon Game". Rayner's interest in Star Trek: Discovery season 5 is fulfilling his Red Directive mission objective, which is retrieving the treasure, as well as capturing Moll and L'ak, whom he has tangled with before. There is plenty more to learn about Captain Rayner in Star Trek: Discovery season 5.

Star Trek: Discovery Now Has Their Own Data

Fred could be good for commander paul stamets..

Star Trek: Discovery season 5's premiere introduced Fred, a Soong-type synthetic who is a merchant and fence on the planet Q'Mau. Fred obviously evokes the most famous Soong android, Data (Brent Spiner), which is another link between Star Trek: Discovery season 5 and Star Trek: The Next Generation , L'ak and Moll killed Fred after he double-crossed them, but after Fred's body was beamed onto the USS Discovery's medical bay, Commander Paul Stamets (Anthony Rapp) determined from his serial number, AS-7502Y, that Fred was built from the design of Dr. Altan Inigo Soong (Brent Spiner) from Star Trek: Picard .

In Star Trek: Discovery season 5's premiere, Stamets lamented the Federation's scuttling the spore drive program in favor of the Pathway Drive . Although Fred was "killed", it's possible Stamets and his husband, Dr. Hugh Culber (Wilson Cruz), can reactivate Fred. The 600-plus-year-old android may contain other secrets and answer many questions about events between Star Trek: Picard and Star Trek: Discovery 's era. There are intriguing possibilities for Fred in Star Trek: Discovery season 5 , and it would be odd if Fred really is dead after his lone appearance.

The USS Discovery is now "one of a kind" since it has the only working spore drive in existence.

The Next Clue In Discovery's Treasure Hunt

Discovery is going to a planet with twin moons..

The USS Discovery's next stop on the treasure hunt in Star Trek: Discovery season 5, episode 2, "Under the Twin Moons," is Lyrek, a planet in the Vileen system, on the outer sector of the Beta Quadrant, that has 3 moons, 2 of which move in perfect sync. Captain Burnham figured this out after seeing images of Dr. Vellek's Romulan diary pages retrieved from Fred's database. One of the pages had a circular image which could be a literal treasure map, and the clues point to the Vileen system and the planet with twin moons . What Burnham will find on Lyrek remains to be seen in Star Trek: Discovery season 5, episode 2, but the chase is on to answer one of the biggest questions left behind by Star Trek: The Next Generation.
