YES To Celebrate 50th Anniversary Of 'Close To The Edge' With Fall 2022 U.S. Tour

Prog rock pioneers and Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame inductees YES have revealed the dates and details for the U.S. leg of their "The Album Series Tour 2022," celebrating the 50th anniversary of their 1972 iconic album "Close To The Edge" . This marks the band's first trek in the U.S. since 2019 and will kick off with two shows in Glenside, Pennsylvania at the Keswick Theatre on Friday, October 7 and Saturday, October 8 and wrap in New York at the NYCB Theatre on November 19. Tickets will begin to go on sale on Friday, September 2; check local listings for information. See the full tour dates below.

As with "The Album Series Tour 2022," which started off in the U.K. this past June, the U.S. tour is dedicated to the late Alan White — the band's legendary drummer — following his passing this past May. Before the tour gets underway, a special tribute concert — "Alan White - Celebrating His Life And Music" — will be held on October 2 at the Paramount Theatre in Seattle.

Alan White joined YES in June 1972, just days before their "Close To The Edge" tour began. Over the following 50 years, Alan would appear on every YES album, including 2021's "The Quest" . Following the global pandemic, he had been looking forward to this tour and re-joining his bandmates on stage, something he lived for, in the run-up to his 50th anniversary of joining YES . Sadly, that was not be, but Alan 's towering presence will be omnipresent on the tour. Alan 's good friend, drummer Jay Schellen , will join YES for the forthcoming tour, alongside Steve Howe (guitars and backing vocals), Geoff Downes (keyboards), Jon Davison (lead vocals) and Billy Sherwood (bass guitar and backing vocals).

The "Close to the Edge" show will comprise full production and a high-definition video wall directed by Andy Clark and featuring the artwork of Roger Dean .

Following the release of "The Yes Album" and "Fragile" in 1971, YES released what is widely considered one of the most defining albums, not only for YES but for the whole progressive movement. "Close To The Edge" became an inspiration for their contemporaries and for successive generations of musicians. The album is saluted with a cover story in the September 2022 issue of the national magazine Guitar Player , for which Steve Howe was interviewed. He recalls: "We were young, enthusiastic, and adventurous, and we had this incredible breakthrough success with 'Fragile' . We saw our next album as a real opportunity to prove our worth as a band. The door had been opened and we weren't going to go backward. We wanted to sharpen our skills as far as writing and arranging."

Journalist Joe Bosso wrote about the album's place in rock history in Guitar Player (September 2022): "Vast, enigmatic, full of moments of spectacular grandeur and ever-changing hues, 'Close To The Edge' is the 'Lawrence of Arabia' of progressive-rock albums. Comprised of just three tracks — the dizzying side-long, 18-minute title track, the equally sprawling mini epic 'And You And I' , and the whacked-out, hyperactive jazz-funk album closer 'Siberian Khatru' — 'Close To The Edge' documented YES operating at the peak of their musical powers."

YES 2022 U.S. tour dates are:

Formed in 1968 by Jon Anderson and the late and much-missed Chris Squire , YES have been one of the most innovative, influential and best-loved bands in rock music history. Their 1970s albums "The Yes Album" , "Fragile" , "Close To The Edge" , "Yessongs" (a triple live album set), "Tales From Topographic Oceans" , "Relayer" and "Going For The One" were ground-breaking in musical style and content. Their music also became synonymous with artist Roger Dean whose distinctive YES logo design and artwork adorned the lavish gatefold presentation sleeves of many YES albums.

With sales of over 50 million records, the Grammy Award -winning YES were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2017 where they performed "Roundabout" from the album "Fragile" and the FM radio-friendly "Owner Of A Lonely Heart" from the 1985 album "90125" . In 2021 YES released their 22nd studio album, "The Quest" , produced by Steve Howe , which went to No. 1 in the UK rock chart and entered the official U.K. album chart at No. 20.

Yes Announces “Close To The Edge” 50th Anniversary U.S. Tour Dates

Kevin Johnson

Fifty years ago, Yes released their iconic album Close To The Edge . The epic sonic journey is one of the most defining records for the progressive movement.

“We were young, enthusiastic, and adventurous, and we had this incredible breakthrough success with Fragile,” guitarist Steve Howe tells Guitar Player in their September 2022 issue. “We saw our next album as a real opportunity to prove our worth as a band. The door had been opened and we weren’t going to go backward. We wanted to sharpen our skills as far as writing and arranging.”

Now the band is celebrating the milestone with the “Close To The Edge 50th Anniversary Tour,” which will see the band playing the masterpiece in its entirety, as well as a selection of other classic songs. The current Yes lineup includes Howe, keyboardist Geoff Downes, lead vocalist Jon Davison, and bassist Billy Sherwood , who continues to anchor the band in place of the late Chris Squire. Another addition to the band is drummer Jay Schellen, who will be filling the drum seat after Alan White’s passing in May. The tour is dedicated to his memory.

“Alan White joined Yes in June 1972, just days before their “Close To The Edge” Tour began,” the band writes. Over the following 50 years, Alan would appear on every Yes album, including 2021’s ‘The Quest.’ Following the global pandemic, he had been looking forward to this tour and re-joining his bandmates on stage, something he lived for, in the run up to his 50th anniversary of joining Yes.”

The extensive tour kicks off October 2nd with an Alan White tribute show before snaking its way across the entire U.S. The run is slated to wrap up on November 19th at the NYCB Theatre in Westbury, New York.

The post Yes Announce Close to the Edge 50th Anniversary Fall 2022 US Tour appeared first on Consequence .

Yes are celebrating the 50th anniversary of their seminal album Close to the Edge with a Fall 2022 US tour.

The legendary progressive rock band kicks off the outing on October 7th and 8th with a two-night stand at the Keswick Theatre in Glenside, Pennsylvania. The itinerary runs through the rest of the month and into November, wrapping on November 19th at the NYCB Theatre in Westbury, New York.

Ticket pre-sales for select dates begin as early as tomorrow (August 30th) at 10 a.m. local time (use code APPLAUSE ). General sales begin Friday (September 2nd) via Ticketmaster .

As with the band’s recent UK tour, the upcoming US trek is dedicated to the memory of late Yes drummer Alan White, who had played in the band since 1972. Sadly, White passed away in May following a “brief illness,” right before Yes set out on the European run.

Alan’s good friend, drummer Jay Schellen, will join Yes for the forthcoming dates, alongside Steve Howe (guitars/backing vocals), Geoff Downes (keyboards), Jon Davison (lead vocals), and Billy Sherwood (bass/backing vocals). The 50th anniversary shows will feature a full stage production and a high-definition video wall directed by Andy Clark and featuring the artwork of Roger Dean.

Released in 1972, Close to the Edge is hailed as Yes’ magnum opus and one of the greatest prog-rock albums ever. Comprised of three tracks spanning nearly 39-minutes, its long twisting arrangements and multi-movement compositions have come to define the genre.

“We were young, enthusiastic, and adventurous, and we had this incredible breakthrough success with Fragile ,” Howe told Guitar Player magazine [via a press release]. “We saw our next album as a real opportunity to prove our worth as a band. The door had been opened and we weren’t going to go backward. We wanted to sharpen our skills as far as writing and arranging.”

Yes announce 50th anniversary US tour dates

Yes will play 33 dates across the US throughout June and July in celebration of their 50th anniversary

Yes

Yes have announced a summer US tour to celebrate their 50th anniversary.

The initial run off 33 shows will kick off at the Arcada Theatre in St Charles on June 5 and wrap up with a performance at Atlanta’s Symphony Hall on July 28. A handful of further dates are expected to be announced in due course.

Guitarist Steve Howe says: “Much has changed since I joined Yes in 1970, but the core elements of the band have remained consistent. We want to mark this anniversary with a tour that encompasses some of our best-loved work and revisit a few classic pieces that have been lost for a while.

“We look forward to sharing the 50th anniversary with the fanbase, playing classic songs that celebrate the broad musical style of Yes.”

Drummer Alan White adds: “I have been blessed to be a member of this amazing band’s rhythm section for the past 46 years – mostly in the company of my great friend Chris Squire, and latterly alongside Chris’ chosen successor, Billy Sherwood, who is receiving recognition for stepping into Chris’ pre-eminent bass and vocals.

“Each night we are pausing to reflect on Chris’ importance to Yes, his desire that we should continue to share Yes music on stages worldwide, and the specific dedication of Onward to his huge memory.

“I’m so grateful to continue to be performing on stages for our dedicated fans and look forward to celebrating our 50th anniversary in America. It has been a great ride!”

Keyboardist Geoff Downes says it’s a “privilege and honour” to be a member of the band on this landmark occasion, and adds: “It is awe-inspiring to reflect on the caliber and invention of the musicians who have forged the legacy of Yes since 1968, always pushing the boundaries.

“Playing on stage with founder member Tony Kaye to launch the 50th anniversary on this year’s Cruise to the Edge was a wonderful experience for the band and our fans, to whom we dedicate this special tour.”

The first tickets will go on sale from Friday (March 30) with some venues going live over the following days. Check the Yes website for details .

Yes Featuring Anderson, Rabin, Wakeman Announce 50th Anniversary Tour

In recognition of the 50th anniversary of Yes ' debut , Yes Featuring Anderson, Rabin, Wakeman have announced the first dates of a 100-show world tour that they're calling Quintessential Yes: The 50th Anniversary Tour. They also revealed plans for a compilation, a live recording and new music.

After spending June playing across Europe, they'll begin the U.S. leg on Aug. 26 at the Whiskey a Go Go in Los Angeles, where Yes first played as a headliner in 1971. As of now, they have only confirmed nine more shows between then and Sept. 9 concert at the Rose Music Center in Huber Heights, Ohio, but a press release says that at least 20 more North American dates for early 2019 will be announced in the near future, as will legs covering South America, Central and Southern Europe, and Japan and the Far East. The trio will be bolstered by bassist Lee Pomeroy and drummer Louis Molino III. You can see the dates below and get full ticketing information, including VIP packages, at their website.

Lead singer Jon Anderson has curated a two-CD/three-LP compilation of Yes that Warner Bros. will release on an as-yet unknown date in August. At roughly the same time, Eagle Rock will put out a live CD/DVD of their March 2017 show from Manchester, England. The group also plans on finishing up an album that will serve as the first time the three men have worked together on new material since 1991's Union . That record is expected in late 2018 or early 2019.

The iteration of Yes with longtime members Steve Howe and Alan White will embark on their own 50th anniversary tour beginning June 5 in St. Charles, Ill., and concluding July 28 in Atlanta. You can see all the dates here .

Review of the Yes – Close To The Edge 50th Anniversary Tour, Dublin – June 28th, 2022

Yes – Dublin – June 28th 2022 Close To The Edge 50th Anniversary Tour by Geoff Bailie

A lot of things have happened since I bought the ticket for this show originally scheduled for 2020… a global pandemic, obviously, a new Yes album and, sadly, the death of long standing member and drummer, Alan White. In addition, the band decided that for their return to live performance, they would celebrate 50 years of the Close To The Edge album, rather than tackle the previously announced Relayer (and I’ll admit it now, that disappointed me). In spite of all this and, not forgetting the ongoing unknown factor that this virus can halt touring overnight, Yes came on stage in Dublin tonight, following a video tribute to Alan White which was a nice acknowledgment of the drummer’s career and family.

“The Firebird Suite” naturally got things underway and the opening track, a 2022 rearrangement of Tormato’s “On The Silent Wings of Freedom,” was a rousing and confident start – not played since the 1979 tour, it’s a powerful track, immediately showing that the band you see on stage can confidently tackle certainly any 1970s Yes Music.

yes 50th anniversary tour

This is the 6th time I’ve seen Yes live, my first being on The Ladder tour, and yet the setlist contained 5 songs I’d never heard the band play live before. In addition to OTSWOF, Drama’s “Does It Really Happen” was included which gave Billy Sherwood the opportunity to demonstrate his bass guitar skills. Confidently playing this complex piece, his self-confessed Squire influenced style has developed greatly, allowing him to own the bass parts rather than just replicate his hero.

For a band with a massive back catalogue, playing two tracks from their most recent album, The Quest, could be a bit risky. But the tracks including the album opener “The Ice Bridge” were performed and received with the same enthusiasm and gusto as the classics. The “up” tempos and live feel particularly benefitted “Dare To Know” and instilled energy that the studio cut lacked.

The other “new to me” track was “No Opportunity Necessary, No Experience Needed” from the band’s second album. A creative cover version of a Richie Havens song, something the early band was particularly good at. It was preceded with a tribute to guitarist Peter Banks from Steve Howe. As with the very new tracks, you could come up with a valid reason why the band shouldn’t play this and go with something more familiar, but this version rocked with Sherwood and Jon Davison’s vocals being on point. Who could argue with “Heart of the Sunrise” as the Set 1 closer? I’ve read some critique in previous reviews of how Geoff Downes’ interpretation of some of the parts in this song strays from Rick Wakeman’s originals. Personally I’ve no issue with that – each band member brings their own steer to the back catalogue, and has done since the first line up changes. But tonight Geoff Downes’ performance combined accuracy and energy, as drummer Jay Schellen lifted the tempos to an extent from how some of these classic pieces had been played in the past. Geoff’s 11 years in the band line up since rejoining are well and truly hard earned and he does a great job.

I mentioned at the start I was really disappointed to learn the band wouldn’t be playing the Relayer album this tour and instead would celebrate 50 years of Close to the Edge. Pretty much every Yes show I’ve ever seen has contained at least 2 of the 3 songs on CTTE, and I’ve seen the album played in full on the 2014 tour featuring Squire and White. So I was skeptical as to what this could add to my Yes experience. Well, I’m glad to say that the performance exceeded all of my expectations. Of course, vocalist Jon Davison carried the weight of performing the lead vocals laid down by a 27 year old Jon Anderson – but every song was executed with great emotion and all the high notes were hit! The band followed suit with drummer Jay Schellen’s style reflecting a hybrid of the studio original played by Bill Bruford, and the live renditions owned by Alan White since he joined the band. All of the familiar parts were there but you can see how Schellen enjoyed playing off the band members, particularly Sherwood, with swing and panache.

yes 50th anniversary tour

Every song from CTTE received a well deserved standing ovation from the close to full house in Vicar Street. Certainly I left the venue, as did many others, feeling they had had a “full fat” Yes experience, rather than a “skimmed milk” tribute band.

“Roundabout” and “Starship Trooper” remained the standard set closers, with lots of moments that featured each band member at their finest, as opposed to seeing a band simply completing their obligatory encores.

Howe, Downes, Davison, Sherwood and Schellen are Yes. Tonight they proved again to me they have earned the right to bear that name. I hope they return to Ireland next year with the Relayer album in tow, and judging from the enthusiasm tonight that would seem like a no brainer

A U.S. tour in near future?

I was at the concert on Tuesday night and to me it was 2 1/2 hours of bliss. After 2 cancellations I finally got to see the latest lineup in action! I am very happy at what I have seen Billy sherwood was on fire, and Chris squire would have very happy at Billy’s performance. As to Jay schelling,he is very worthy of being the new Alan White. Jon Davison is a great vocalist Mr howe and downes excelled Thank you YES for voting over This is my 10th YES show, and the group are no covers band of YES. They are YES Thank you to YES for a magic night

Couldn’t agree more.

I’m sorry. But this version of the band leaves me cold. I have heard YES tribute bands that sound more like YES.

Yes Announce 50th Anniversary American Tour

yes 50th anniversary tour

Yes—with a lineup of Steve Howe, Alan White, Geoff Downes, Jon Davison and Billy Sherwood—have announced a 50th anniversary tour of America. It will take place this summer.

Titled Yes50: Celebrating 50 Years of Yes , the 30-plus date trek will take the band across the country throughout the months of June and July. Tickets for the shows will go on sale to the public beginning this Friday, March 30 or Saturday, March 31, with select shows going on sale in early April.

"Much has changed since I joined Yes in 1970, but the core elements of the band have remained consistent," Howe said in a press release . "We want to mark this anniversary with a tour that encompasses some of our best-loved work and revisit a few classic pieces that have been lost for a while. We look forward to sharing the 50th anniversary with the fanbase, playing classic songs that celebrate the broad musical style of Yes."

"I have been blessed to be a member of this amazing band's rhythm section for the past 46 years, mostly in the company of my great friend Chris Squire, and latterly alongside Chris' chosen successor, Billy Sherwood, who is receiving recognition for stepping into Chris' pre-eminent bass and vocals," Alan White added. "Each night we are pausing to reflect on Chris' importance to Yes, his desire that we should continue to share Yes music on stages worldwide, and the specific dedication of 'Onward' to his huge memory. I'm so grateful to continue to be performing on stages for our dedicated fans and look forward to celebrating our 50th Anniversary in America. It has been a great ride!"

‘yes: 50 live’ highlights band’s 50th anniversary tour.

Posted by Buddy Iahn | May 29, 2019

New live album highlights band’s 50th Anniversary Tour

Yes celebrated the band’s 50th anniversary over the last year with an extensive tour that included shows in Europe, North America and Japan. This year, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers are back with a new double live album that was recorded during the group’s anniversary tour.

Yes 50 Live will be available from Rhino on August 2nd as 2 CD and 4 LP sets. On the same day, the music will also be available digitally to download and stream. For a limited time, Rhino.com will also have exclusive color vinyl versions available while supplies last.

The cover of Yes 50 Live was painted by Roger Dean, whose artwork and trademark calligraphy are synonymous with the band’s identity. The CD and vinyl versions both come with an eight-page booklet that includes photographs from the tour taken by the Gottlieb Brothers.

Yes 50 Live features 13 live performances of key songs that helped make Yes the most enduring, ambitious, and virtuosic progressive band in rock history. What makes this collection even more extraordinary is the number of band members who are featured. In fact, much of the album was recorded in Philadelphia, a show where ten members of Yes were on stage during the encore (current members) Steve Howe, Geoff Downes, Alan White, Billy Sherwood and Jon Davison, Jay Schellen, plus (former members) Tony Kaye, Patrick Moraz, Tom Brislin and Trevor Horn. Patrick Moraz is featured on “Soon” and Tony Kaye is featured on “Yours Is No Disgrace,” “Roundabout,” and “Starship Trooper.”

The live performances on Yes 50 Live seamlessly weave together several eras from the band’s past with songs from ten different studio albums recorded between 1970 and 2011. Naturally, the collection highlights some of the group’s most important music, including “Starship Trooper,” from The Yes Album (1971), “Roundabout” from Fragile (1971) and the title track from Close to the Edge (1972). But the new live album also highlights some of Yes’ most adventurous work with an excerpt from “The Ancient,” a track that appeared on 1973’s Tales From Topographic Oceans , and “Soon,” which is the final section in “The Gates Of Delirium” from 1974’s Relayer .

This summer, the current members of Yes will extend the band’s 50th Anniversary Tour in North America as it headlines The Royal Affair Tour.

Yes 50th Anniversary Concert Live At The Apollo, A Near Perfect Tribute on Blu-ray, Tidal Stream, Vinyl and CD

The new 50th Anniversary concert video celebrating legendary progressive rock band Yes — titled Yes featuring Anderson, Rabin, Wakeman – Live At The Apollo (in Manchester, England) — is overall a fine tribute to the group. The performances are exemplary and the sound quality is pretty terrific in either LPCM Stereo or DTS HD Master Audio 5.1 surround sound options, both effectively complementing the tight, rich video. The surround mix is somewhat conventional using the surrounds for concert hall ambiance, but it does make for a bigger sounding listen.

AR-YesApolloBluRay225.jpg

If you saw this band on this tour (which was initially billed as ARW — for Anderson, Rabin and Wakeman) you know you’ll want to get this concert Blu-ray Disc. They are looking and sounding great! Some of my favorite songs on this Blu-ray Disc are the epic “I’ve Seen All Good People / Your Move” (from The Yes Album ) and the fine version of “And You And I” from Close to the Edge . “Heart of the Sunrise” here is pretty stellar!  And even 80s-era tunes like “Changes” sound fresh (I admittedly was not a fan of that era of the band back in the day but its grown on me over time). I love the updated version of “Long Distance Runaround” (from Fragile ) which is punchy and almost a bit funky.  Fun!

AR-YesApolloRickWakeman225.jpg

Regardless, I like this Blu-ray Disc so much I might order up the limited LP pressing I just noticed up on Amazon ( 3500 copies made of this three LP set on opaque orange vinyl! ). If you are curious to hear the album now and have a subscription to the Tidal streaming service, you can click here and you’ll find the whole  album playing there on demand in CD quality. And… get this: you can get this Blu-ray for a ridiculously low price on Amazon ( around $12 last time I checked! ). Talk about a no brainer purchase!

Hey Mark, I bought this release in CD version. I like it but I was not 100% impressed with it sonically. Maybe I’ll get the LP to see if it is any different. Great review by the way! Very informative!

I havent heard the CD so I cant vouch for it … I just have the Bluray… but in general I keep my expectations low for most CD releases these days and when they do sound good its a bonus…

not bad——these are still better–https://listen.tidal.com/album/90999949

Thanks, Mark! Ordered. I saw the Steve Howe-led version last year and loved it — they played one song off of each of their first 10 albums, plus “Roundabout,” and a lot of it was stuff like “South Side of the Sky” that doesn’t get played much.

There is a blu-ray back from 2008 called Yes Live At Montreux 2003. It reminded me a lot of how they sounded live back when I saw them a few times in the 70s. (Sadly Yessongs never fit that bill.) Used to be my favorite group once upon a time, so it was good to see/hear that they hadn’t changed all that much in the intervening years. Kind of lost track of them after 90125.

I just read a few of the Amazon reviews. Some talk about the exaggerated and fake applause that permeates the performance. Has anyone had the same experience? I’ll check it out on Tidal later on but I’m hoping it’s not that bad. Yes has always been one of my favorite bands and I’d be interested in ordering the Blu-Ray set.

For me this bluray was very poor and I returned the disc. The fake applause was crudely done – using the same digital snippet in numerous places – so can’t believe others haven’t noticed. Probably most noticeable on the 5.1 audio. Badly done – compare with the two blurays from King Crimson which have a perfect mix,

Also in MQA on Tidal.

Martín Gabastou • a few seconds ago I disagree. While the performance is stellar, the sound lacks a lot of bottom end, vocals are too highly mixed-in, and the overall tone is too trebley and fatiguing, while the cymbals are buried. There’s also a problem with the black balance (too dark and if you compensate by raising brightness, to see the details, the pics burns out) Glad I was gifted this or I’d be mad.

Yes Live on Tour in 2024: Setlist, How To Get Tickets, & More

by Em Casalena May 2, 2024, 6:18 pm

English prog-rock legends Yes finally kicked off their 2024 tour in Lisbon, Portugal just last night. And it was a night to remember for Portuguese fans.

Videos by American Songwriter

The Classic Tales of Yes Tour was similarly amazing last year when it first launched, and this year’s leg is no different. The band was as committed as always to putting on one hell of a show. They delivered a varied but fan-favorite set list, which you can check out below:

1. “Machine Messiah”

2. “It Will Be A Good Day”

3. “Going For The One”

4. “I’ve Seen All Good People”

5. “America” (cover of Simon and Garfunkel)

6. “Time And A Word”

7. “Don’t Kill The Whale”

8. “Turn Of The Century”

9. “South Side Of The Sky”

10. “Cut From The Stars”

11. Medley: “The Revealing Science of God”, “The Remembering”, “The Ancient”, “Ritual”

12. “Roundabout”

13. “Starship Trooper”

If last night’s first concert is any indication, this is going to be a top-notch international tour. And it will likely be even better with the co-headlining addition of Deep Purple later this year.

The next stop of the Yes 2024 Tour will be on May 2 in Madrid, Spain at Riviera. The final stop on the tour will be on June 4 in London, England at Royal Albert Hall. Then, the band will kick off their tour with Deep Purple on August 14 in Hollywood, Florida at Hard Rock Live.

Guitarist and founding member Neal Schon and keyboardist/guitarist Jonathan Cain say that today’s band has never played better.

“Finally, it sounds like the Journey everybody knows,” Cain said of the group, which formed in 1973 in San Francisco. “It’s back to the ’80s, that’s what it sounds like.”

Journey with special guest star Toto is coming to Scope Friday.

Schon and Cain are the two remaining members going back to the early 1980s when Journey was churning out hits like “Don’t Stop Believing,” “Any Way You Want It” and “Open Arms.” The two reflected on the band during a recent video interview, including on recent lawsuits, disputes and personnel changes, and regaining a level of popularity that has Journey back on the road.

But there were more issues to come – this time between Schon and Cain. Schon sent a cease-and-desist letter to Cain after Cain joined a sing-along of “Don’t Stop Believing” at a November 2022 event for former president Donald Trump. Cain’s wife, Paula, had worked as a spiritual advisor to Trump. Schon took offense to Cain’s performance, noting that Journey never was and never would be a political band.

Then last year, Schon and Cain traded lawsuits over a financial account for the group. The bandmates hashed out their differences without the courts, they said.

“All we really did was get fed up with the legal and having legals talk instead of us,” Schon said. “We talked for a couple of hours and we talked through it all. I think that’s what fixed everything.”

Now Schon and Cain are leading Journey (with Pineda, Castronovo and Jensen) on one of the band’s biggest touring years. Fans can expect to hear Journey’s biggest hits — the “Dirty Dozen” as the band has nicknamed them — with a handful of new or deeper cuts. This makes crafting set lists a challenge but it’s a problem many bands would welcome.

“We just have a massive catalog,” Cain said, “with so many great songs that we don’t get to.”
