Discover Uzi Island where the cultural heritage of a sleepy Island approach to life and slowly attitude is perfect for those wanting to get away for a bit of Do Absolutely Nothing or Visit the Island’s Culture. Uzi island has managed not to be involved in tourism development and most of the Uzis are fishermen and peasants. The island’s scenery is fascinating and lush with mangroves, banana plantations, and huge mango trees. The island is part of a conservation area and is an ecosystem with seaweed, corals and a big variation of plants, and sea- and land animals. The island can only be reached by boat or at low tide when the only road to the island surfaces.

The Island is located in the South of Zanzibar and it can only be accessed via a causeway that is accessible during low tide it is also known as “Mosses Road”. When the water comes up, the road disappears and you might as well travel by traditional Dhow. Uzi Island has a population of 6,000 peoples but still don’t have any restaurant or bar. A canoe trip through the thick forest and lush mangroves, seaweed farming, bird watching in the Mangroves, discovering lonely beaches and Champaign baobab tree & hollow baobab tree composed of several fused stems makes the Island very unique. Uzi Island is an example of Zanzibar before the age of mass development, in which someone can say that things are spared if not backward.

This is a full-day tour to in South Coast of Zanzibar. The tour starts with an Uzi Village tour then followed by a Mangrove tour by kayaking, boat, and paddling after the tour lunch and fruits will be served under the green shade trees

I didn’t learn anything about mangroves. We also weren’t told to bring bug spray and got bitten many times by “no see um” bugs. We were told to bring sunblock and water shoes only. At 4:15 no one had arrived so we called again, and were informed by the manager that the driver was on his way, and that he would call and double check and then get back to us. The driver never showed up, and the manager didn’t answer our 4 phone calls, neither did he ever get back to us... Poor service, which unfortunately meant we never experienced the mangroves. We were a mixed group of nationalities and ages, but everyone had a really good time. The guides were really great and had a lot of patience with some of the older (less agile) members of our group. It's really beautiful in the mangroves and quite different scenery from what I have experienced on the rest of the island. The mangroves SUP tour is a tour that is done every day, but is everything but an everyday tour! The tour takes place once a day, depending on the tides. The whole tour takes about 3 to 4 hours.

The mangrove forest of Zanzibar

Discover one of the most beautiful, unknown, and highly endangered environments on Zanzibar’s South-East coast, which is only accessible by SUP.

In the mangrove area, you will find a wide variety of animals, such as a different species of fish and crabs, but also bush babies and tropical birds. Our guide will show you the most beautiful areas and explain the different types of mangrove trees during our mangrove SUP tour. the guides that we are working with are local to the mangrove forest and they know every detail there is to know about this magical place. They share their passion for the mangrove with you and will teach you some tricks on the SUP boards as well.

Hi! The tour was really interesting because the guide knows so well the territory (mangroves and also fauna). My girlfriend and I had a dedicated tour on a doubleside kayak. In the farest place we ate some tropical fruit before to come back to the starting point. It was strange walk on and into the mangroves ground but when we got feeling was amazing. This guided paddle board tour is a low-key, fun way to explore Zanzibar's mangrove forests and wetlands, home to 8 species of mangroves, as well as a variety of birds and other animals. No motors, no crowds, just the sound of lapping water and birdsong as you weave through the natural waterways and learn about this unique and sensitive ecosystem. The adventure will leave you both exhilarated and at peace. Getting there

Located in the heart of the old town of Stone Town and its small streets, it is preferable to plan a shuttle with the hotel because a cab or tuk-tuk (Bajaj) not initiated might not find the accommodation. From Zanzibar airport: 20 minutes by shuttle/taxi, count 15 USD during the day / 20 USD at night. Stone Town has many public transportation (cab, tux-tuk, motorcycle cab...).

Sup (s tand up paddle) boarding tour is the perfect outdoor activity, sup tour in the mangroves.

The stand up paddle boarding tour in Zanzibar is the perfect outdoor activity to discover one of the most beautiful environments in Zanzibar. During the tour the guide will explain to you the keystone ecosystems in the mangroves and how a large number of local people are depending on this delicate system. One of these locals will be your tour guide as well. These mangroves have been their backyard since they were born so who can show them better? Nobody in our opinion, they will provide the information in English and are trained to keep you happy and safe. 

ABOUT THE TOUR

3-4 hours (including the transfer).

The complete stand up paddling tour in the mangroves will take approximately 3-4 hours including the transfer from the south-east coast and back. Within these hours you will discover the only species of trees in the world that can tolerate saltwater, have a nice workout and some fresh fruits.

SUP is considered an easy watersport

Stand up paddling is considered an easy watersport. However if standing up is too difficult or you don’t feel like standing up just go on your knees and enjoy your surroundings. If there is strong wind it can be more challenging. It’s easier on your knees and if you need help just call the guide.

Depends on the tide of the day

The Stand up paddling in the mangroves is an everyday tour and takes place once a day depending on the tides as we need at least 3 meters of water to be able to enter the mangroves. To find out the times at a specific date please check the calendar and select the date you wish to go and see the available time. 

Location and transport

The Stand Up Paddling tour is located in Michamvi Kae . Transport to the tour is included on the South-East coast only (gray area).  We pick you up at your hotel and bring you back. If you are not within our area we can arrange transport against an extra fee.

• Stone Town Tour

  Guided tour of  Zanziba r , provides living evidence of a rich cultural heritage, where Arab, Indian, Persian and European influences blended with local African tradition. Historic buildings with elaborately carved wooden doors, shaded by balconies, loggias and verandas line the narrow winding streets.

The tour include a visit to a Town Market, Slave Market, National Museum of  Zanziba r , High Court Building, Slave Chambers, Old German Consulate, Africa House (former English Club), Tip-Tip House, Kelele Square, Old British Consulate, Orphanage Home, Old Fort, Forodhani Gardens, House of Wonders, Sultan Palace (now a Museum), Custom House, Old Dispensary and Old Harbour .

Prison Island

Also known as changuu island, is just off the coast of stone town, zanzibar. Now a tourist attraction, prison island was once a place where slaves were detained and at one point, it also served as a place of quarantine.

The boat ride from stone town takes 20-30 minutes and the seas at times can be a bit rough. Arriving on the island, there is a mysterious rustic wooden bridge that hovers a few meters above the water, jetting out into the sea. Prison island is a refuge for giant sea tortoises, originally a gift from the seychelles.

A 5 minute walk across the island leads to the former prison ruins. Though in their successful days it was a torturous place to be, nowadays the ocean cliffs, the overgrowth of the plants on the stone walls, and the view of the turquoise ocean is gorgeous.

• Jozani Forest Tour

Tour Jozani forest national park, spot the rare red Colobus monkeys, walk on a nature trail, lined with eucalyptus and mahogany trees, the mangrove boardwalk takes you above the swamp, where, depending on the tide, you can see Indian Ocean tropical fish flitting between the mangrove roots and crabs scuttling across the mud.

Your park ranger will explain the medicinal properties of various plants. As you walk, learn about the animals, birds, and reptiles that make their home in the various habitats of this tropical rainforest.

• Dolphin Tour

Mnemba Atoll is the most famous Conservation area in Zanzibar. It consists of a seven by four kilometers reef, containing the tiny Mnemba Island.

Mnemba is famous for encounters with Green Turtles and Common Dolphins. For some reason, Mnemba Dolphins really like to play. They often tend to swim right next to our boat, and so allowing you to jump in the water to snorkel with them.

On our way back, we slow down to pass close to the beautiful Mnemba Island, so you can take some great photos. If you made a choice to Snorkelling on Zanzibar, Mnemba Atoll is obviously a must!!!

A fantastic nearly vertical wall dropping from 2 to  4 meters. Ideal site for drifting along the wall as well as a great site for beginners experienced divers and snorkelers.

• Safari Blue

Safari blue trip in Zanzibar is one among the best sea adventures in the Zanzibar island, not only sailing along with the traditional dhow but also you can have snorkeling, swim, and relaxing on a white sandy beach on a sandbank.
