Fjord Cruise in Oslo

Enjoy the scenic Oslofjord on a sightseeing fjord cruise and get an overview of the city and its attractions.

On this fjord sightseeing tour, we pass through narrow sounds, idyllic bays, and through a maze of islands with small summer houses. Oslo, with its superb location, offers unique opportunities on and around its fjord which stretches almost into the city center.

Tour description

You’ll sail past numerous islands, including Hovedøya and the Dyna Lighthouse, through narrow inlets and into sheltered bays so that you can capture the capital on camera from different angles.

We will also sail past the Norwegian National Opera & Ballet House in Bjørvika in inner Oslo Fjord. The Opera House was designed by the architectural firm Snøhetta AS, which won an architectural competition in 2000. It was officially opened on 12 April 2008 and the building has received numerous international awards.

The boat also passes close to the peninsula of Bygdøy, housing many interesting museums as well as beaches such as Huk Bay. See the Maritime Museum with its veteran sailing ships moored outside, and the impressive Fram Museum, housing the polar ship of the same name.

This trip offers a great way to see the capital of Norway and get an overview of the city and all its attractions.

I loved this cruise; the sights and the whole feeling of it is just so lovely. I booked with Viator because of their cancellation policy and it was so easy, including the instructions for the cruise. Definitely worth the price!

Conveniently located. Efficient operation. Comfortable. Great views of Oslo from the water as well as the lovely homes and scenery surrounding the Oslo Fijord. A very nice way to spend and evening is Oslo.

My wife and I enjoyed this trip very much across the peaceful waters of the Oslo fjord. There was even a service bar on the boat with beverages for purchase.

It was great to see Oslo from the water and get a little history of the city. The boat ride was very pleasant and calming. It was quite chilly once we got going, but they had warm blankets to keep you warm.

It should be great adventure, unfortunately the weather was bad during our cruise. It was raining heavily so we could not maximize our leisure trip in Oslo Fjord.

It was a gorgeous day and the cruise was delightful. I couldn't hear the commentary if I was on the front deck so that was a small issue, but I was very happy just watching the scenery go by. It was very cold so the bar with hot drinks was an excellent addition. It would have been lovely to have a complimentary glass of glogg but as the tour was not that expensive it didn't detract from the experience. Would happily go again.

brilliant tour very interesting we went in september quite chilly.

Worth the time and for sure to get a nice ride around Oslo Fjord/Bay. The narration was good and the fresh air enjoyable.

Oslo fjord is undramatic compared with the fjords seen in the cruise ship brochures - don't expect to sail between towering cliffs! Once you get beyond Oslo harbour the points of interest are mainly the many holiday homes built on the various islands. The boat itself was fine, but all the seats were enclosed - there was no deck to wander around. Overall we felt that, at 2 hours, it was a bit too long.

This was a good cruise with limited time. Saw 2 hrs of the coastline waterways. Interesting info, guide was terrific. Started out in the rain but boat is enclosed so not a problem. Mini Fjords but a taste for sure. Would recommend this if you can't get to Bergen

Plenty of information provided by our guide. The cruise was another of Oslo from the Fjord with views of many small islands in the fjord.

The thing is that the fjord itself is only moderately interesting (in my opinion), but this tour adds two great things: - the shrimps which are super tasty and awesome, if you love them in the first place of course, - it's an evening cruise, and when you're going back, you'll see beautiful port and ship lights. I also enjoyed the vessel itself, which is kind of an old style, large wooden boat. I'd recommend this trip. Unless you're not into shrimps. Or fjords. Or boats. Read more Written August 6, 2023

If you’ve left fraternity life behind, you can probably find a better uses for your evening in Oslo. My wife and I were extremely unimpressed with this money-grab experience. There is no guide. People are packed into the boat like sardines. When, it rained, the staff threw non-waterproof blankets over us - the boat did not have an indoor area with windows and, if even if it did, it wouldn’t have come close to fitting everyone in there. Our trip to Norway had a ton of highlights. This was the only lowlight but, man, was it low. Do NOT recommend. Read more Written July 5, 2023

There was enough room for everyone to sit comfortably. The water in late May was calm so there were no issues for sea sickness. There were a couple of tables that were extremely loud, yelling, climbing on the table at one point, obviously inebriated, adults in their 30's and 40's who should have respect for other but didn't. • aperfectasian 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles Get there early, expect lots of shrimps We arrived 20 minutes early and the boat was nearly full. It is open seating, so prepare to share small benches with strangers. Drinks are weak and expensive for what you get. Overall, we had a good time. Thousands of shrimp available with no limit to your consumption. You must remove the heads and peel them yourself, but that can add to the experience if you’re into that kind of thing. Oslo fjord is not one of the dramatic fjords you’d expect to see in Norway. It’s more like a harbor you sail around for three hours while you look at foothills in the distance. The harbor is clean and beautiful, however, with friendly boaters and charming little boat houses. Boat staff is friendly and the music enlivens the ride a bit. You can even request the songs you’d like to hear. Our boat ended up having an ABBA singalong, which was Scandinavian af. Overall a fun time. 👍 Read more Written August 12, 2022

  • youhavetolovechicago 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles A fabulous time, worth it. So much fun, and just enough time. The location was easy to find. It would have been nice if the captain asked them to calm down so everyone could enjoy more. The shrimp were excellent. I ate a lot of them, I mean a lot. Read more Written 3 June 2023
👍 Read more Written 12 August 2022

It was a bit cold even with pants and a jacket when we were going fast, but there were blankets available. Overall incredibly happy with the trip and would happily go again. • DaisyMatthew2016 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Oslo Fjord Cruise The cruise was amazing! We decided to take the Cruise a few hours after we landed in order to help us stay awake. NO PROBLEM there. Every moment was stunningly beautiful. Plenty of shrimp to peel and eat... Snacks and drinks purchased separately. The crew was very friendly as well as accommodating with drink requests. Great way to relax and see the stunning landscape. Highly recommended! Read more Written 2 July 2022
  • Anne D 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles Relaxing cruise of the harbor Staff worked hard making the trip enjoyable. Scenery nice. Packed boat, some views better than others. Tons of food. Plenty of alcohol for purchase. Also sodas available. Thought it would be a night cruise - but at the summer solstice- light the whole way (7-10)! Just a heads up in case you want dark and lights on shore. Bring a jacket. Windy and cold, even with daytime temperatures of 75 degrees. They did have blankets - very nice addition! Enjoyed our trip. Traveler Reviews

Rather disappointed with the commentary. The tour could have been been made so much more interesting with a few more comments about the fjord - for example how deep it is, the cruise ships which call in and the stopping due to the pollution they create. The commentary pointed out a handful of buildings, then silence all the way back to Oslo

It was just beautiful to be out on the water. Staff was friendly. Information was useful. Provided blankets, which were very much appreciated.

Great way to see Oslo from the fjord. Some beautiful properties dotted around the fjord, as well as some tiny ones. Not sure if they were fishing huts or saunas. Limited talk but it was fine, as lot was self explanatory and just nice to sit and enjoy. The bottom part of the boat in sun, top part in shade. It really isn't suitable for small kids and babies, but fortunately the crying one wasn't next to me. Take hat for shade, and jumper for extra layer as it can be a bit cool out there. You can book on the day, but I booked the day before. Boat leaves from Pier 3. We're told to get there 20 minutes before departure. But we queued and waited for half an hour in the sun. A very worthwhile trip.

Definitely I did not appreciate the tour. The boat was very old. The toilet was dirty and during the trip nobody cleaned it. It was raining and there was not sufficient support to cope with the situation. In brief, I do not recommend this tour.

Crew were friendly, gave interesting facts and the cruise was a great way to see more of the area in the little time we had.

Great excursion and beautiful views on the Fjord. Commentary was excellent and really gave me a good idea of Norwegian culture and more specifically the culture in Oslo. Loved the experience.

A great way to get an insight into Oslo when you are short on time. I was in Oslo with work but had free personal time on Saturday so this was the perfect way of seeing the sights from the water. The commentary was fairly simple but nothing more was needed.

My parents and I enjoyed this very much! Lovely sites to see and interesting information from the recorded commentary. A fun day for tourists and would do it again!

Lovely views of Oslo from the fjord - comfortable boat and helpful staff. There is a bar and food available on board and toilet facilities.

Great experience. Really enjoyed the commentary and the historical information. The coast was beautiful, would definitely go again.
