Leapin’ Lizards! TROIKA Entertainment, LLC announced today that an all-new tour of Annie will hit the road in the fall of 2022.

This new tour of the iconic Tony Award ® -winning production is directed by  Jenn Thompson , who at the age of 10 stepped into the role of “Pepper” in the Original Broadway production. Scenic designs for the touring production are by Wilson Chin , whose work was most recently featured on Broadway in the critically acclaimed production of  Pass Over .

“This show, with its iconic title character, continues to delight generations of theatre-lovers old and new by joyfully singing directly into the face of great adversity with perseverance, guts and guile,” said director Jenn Thompson. “For decades, Annie has continued to shine brightly, not only as an appeal to our better angels, but also as an example of the thrill of hope, hard-won: promising a better ‘Tomorrow’ not only for Annie herself, but for all who need her message now more than ever.”

TROIKA Entertainment’s COO and Executive Producer, Kori Prior adds, “We are thrilled and excited to have Jenn Thompson helm this new tour of Annie . She brings such admiration and connection to the material that we know this production will be fresh, new and full of the heart that makes Annie the show we all love.”

A multi-week city tour schedule beginning in the fall of 2022, as well as the full design team, will be announced later this spring.  For more information, visit  AnnieTour.com . Visit our show page to keep track of where the show will go as engagements are announced.

One morning in 1960 he awoke to find he had written (with Lee Adams and Mike Stewart) Bye Bye Birdie (Tony Award), which is still among the most performed musicals in America, followed by Golden Boy with Sammy Davis, Jr. (Tony Nomination). Based on the popular comic strip, Annie tells the extraordinary story of a little orphan who ends up in the lap of luxury with Depression-era billionaire Oliver Warbucks. Unlike most of the other children at Miss Hannigan's orphanage, spunky Annie believes that her parents are still alive and will one day return to claim her. So when Mr. Warbucks offers to adopt her, she asks the most powerful man in America to help find her real mom and dad instead, and he agrees. Warbucks' whopping reward for Annie's parents attracts the attention of con artists Rooster, Lily and the wicked Miss Hannigan, who hatch a plot to kidnap Annie and take the $50,000 reward. But don't fret: This classic family musical has a happy ending for Annie, Daddy Warbucks and the whole gang.

Aerosmith announces rescheduled dates for farewell tour

April 10 (UPI) -- Aerosmith will resume its Peace Out farewell tour in September.

The rock band announced rescheduled dates for the tour on Wednesday after previously postponing shows due to frontman Steven Tyler's vocal injury.

The Peace Out tour will pick up Sept. 20 in Pittsburgh and run through Feb. 26, 2025, in Buffalo, N.Y.

The Black Crowes will appear as a special guest.

Previously purchased tickets will be honored for the new dates. Additional tickets will go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. local time.

Aerosmith originally kicked off the tour in September 2023. The band announced later that month that it would reschedule the remainder of its 2023 tour dates to allow Tyler time to recover.

"To our fans: Unfortunately, Steven's vocal injury is more serious than initially thought. His doctor has confirmed that in addition to the damage to his vocal cords, he fractured his larynx which requires ongoing care," the group said at the time.

"He is receiving the best medical treatment available to ensure his recovery is swift, but given the nature of a fracture, he is being told patience is essential."

Aerosmith was formed in Boston in 1970 and has since released 15 albums.

Holding onto hope when times are tough can take an awful lot of determination, and sometimes, an awful lot of determination comes in a surprisingly small package. Little Orphan Annie has reminded generations of theatergoers that sunshine is always right around the corner, and now the best-loved musical of all time is set to return in a new production – just as you remember it and just when we need it most. ANNIE, directed by Jenn Thompson, features the iconic book and score, written by Tony Award®—winners Thomas Meehan, Charles Strouse and Martin Charnin. Julia Nicole Hunter Comes Home to Tennessee, Playing Grace Farrell in ANNIE Photo

In the world of theater, there exists a sisterhood of women who can count an appearance as an orphan (maybe even THE orphan) in a production of Annie as either their first onstage role or one of their most vivid onstage performances. But for Murfreesboro native Julia Nicole Hunter, who now stars as Grace Farrell in the national touring company of the seven-time Tony Award-winning musical coming to  Tennessee Performing Arts Center this week, her current role as Oliver Warbucks’ faithful assistant marks her first time ever in the show.

Review: At Dr. Phillips Center, ANNIE Ain't Equity, But It Is Interesting Photo

Mounting a non-union production of a story about unfair working conditions and class disparity in New Deal-era America takes some gall. Watching such a production on the heels of a record-breaking WGA strike and in the midst of an ongoing SAG-AFTRA one only adds to the irony. But setting aside the ethics of it all, the ANNIE on stage in Orlando transcends any low expectations one might reserve for a non-Equity, not-from-Broadway tour...

Cast Set For the 2023-24 National Tour of ANNIE Photo

Casting has been announced for the 2023-24 North American Tour of ANNIE that launches in Paducah, KY before a two-week engagement in Ft. Lauderdale, FL Tuesday, October 10th. Find out who is starring in the show here!

Watch Loretta Lynn’s granddaughter’s performance floor the ‘Idol’ judges

Lionel Richie gave Emmy Russell a compliment her legendary grandmother would've no doubt appreciated.

Emmy Russell performs on 'American Idol'

  • Jennifer Graham Kizer
  • April 10, 2024

Loretta Lynn’s granddaughter is a current contestant on “American Idol,” adding another layer of interest to this year’s competition. But Emmy Russell says she’s determined to win the singing contest on her own merits. And, based on Monday’s performance, she’s well on her way.

Her rendition of Benson Boone’s “Beautiful Things” impressed the judges and brought the audience to their feet.

“You have a texture in your voice that is your career,” said judge Lionel Richie . “And on top of that what you have is a storyteller’s voice. We hear every word you are saying, and we believe it.”

Fellow judge Katy Perry also acknowledged the heart and authenticity of Russell’s performance. “I know you didn’t write that song,” she said. “But you sang it like you did.”

Watch Russell’s performance here:

Loretta Lynn, who died at age 90 in 2002 , was also revered for her sincere storytelling in hit songs like “Coal Miner’s Daughter” and “The Pill.” Russell says she learned a great deal from listening to her grandmother.

“Seeing how she was so confessional in her songs,” Russell told People . “She was probably known as ‘my husband’s cheating on me 24/7’ and she stayed. I think that it was the vulnerability, that piece that I picked up on as a writer.”

Russell has boldly written about her own struggles, which in her case involved disordered eating. She wrote the song “Skinny” while she was in recovery and went on to perform it on “American Idol” when she auditioned.

“I struggled a lot with physical beauty image pressures and social media,” Russell told People . “I kind of grew up in the spotlight and so I was always very image-conscious.” But she found songwriting to be a cathartic outlet, one that helped her to face life’s pressures and her own vulnerability. “Beauty from ashes, that’s music for me.”

Russell is hoping to advance beyond the top 24 contestants and compete again next week. If viewers received the performance the way the judges did, she should have no problem doing just that!
