After two years, Asian Tour golf returns to India with DGC Open in March
The Panasonic India Open in November 2019 was the last Asian Tour event held in India.
The Asian Tour - the premier men’s golf tour for Asian countries barring Japan - will return to India in the 2022 season with the DGC Open in New Delhi from March 24 to 27.
It will be the first time since November 2019 that an Asian Tour event will be staged in India at the revamped Delhi Golf Club. The Panasonic Open India, won by South Korea’s Joohyung Kim, was the last Asian Tour tournament held in India.
The Indian Open , co-sanctioned by the European and the Asian Tour, was cancelled twice - first in March 2020 and then in October 2021 - due to COVID-19.
The Asian Tour 2020-21 season is currently underway. Back-to-back events in Singapore in January will round off the season.
After being suspended due to COVID in March 2020, the Asian Tour resumed in November-December 2021 with successive events in Phuket, Thailand.
Wade Ormsby of Australia, who won the Hong Kong Open in January 2020, leads the rankings for the ongoing season.
Meanwhile, Rashid Khan, a two-time winner on the Asian Tour, is the best-ranked Indian at the 15th place.
The full Asian Tour schedule for the 2022 season will be released later in January before the season-opening Saudi International gets underway from February 3.

Asian Tour announces major investment with addition of 10 new marquee events
The new events will be played annually across Asia, the Middle East and Europe and will join established Asian Tour tournaments to comprise a 25-event season from 2022; Greg Norman appointed CEO of LIV Golf Investments as announcement is made
Friday 29 October 2021 16:47, UK
The Asian Tour schedule is set for a major revamp next year with the addition of a series of 10 new marquee events.
The new tournaments will be staged annually over the next 10 years with a commitment of over $200m (£145.4m) to support playing opportunities and prize funds from a newly-formed company, LIV Golf Investments, backed by the Private Investment Fund which operates on behalf of the government of Saudi Arabia.
The events will be played across Asia, the Middle East and Europe and will join established Asian Tour tournaments to comprise a 25-event season from 2022.
There are plans to attract an international field of headline talent to the new events through an open eligibility category regardless of Tour affiliation so opportunities are available to the broadest cross section of players.
Former world No 1 Greg Norman has been appointed as CEO of LIV Golf Investments and he said: "This is only the beginning.

"LIV Golf Investments has secured a major capital commitment that will be used to create additive new opportunities across worldwide professional golf. We will be a cooperative and respectful supporter of the game at every level, and today's announcement alongside the Asian Tour is the first example of that.
"I have been a staunch supporter and believer in playing and developing golf in Asia for more than four decades. The Asian Tour is a sleeping giant and we share ambition to grow the series and unlock what we believe is significant untapped potential.

Asian tour gets big boost from liv golf investments, fires shot at dp world tour by announcing first event in europe, share this article.
LIV Golf Investments announced another $100 million investment into the Asian Tour as well as the first few events of its newly launched International Series, beginning in March.
“This is just the start for us,” said Greg Norman CEO of LIV Golf Investments. “The 10-event series we’ll be starting off is just the beginning. It’s the beginning of an exciting new journey.”
The International Series will debut in Thailand at Black Mountain Golf Club from March 3-6 and include stops in England, Korea, Vietnam, the Middle East, China, Singapore, and Hong Kong and will feature prize purses ranging from $1.5 to $2 million per event.
The announcement of a tournament staged in London at Centurion Club from June 9-12 and offering a $2 million purse marks the Asian Tour’s first foray into Europe and will be played not far from the headquarters of the DP World Tour. Asian Tour CEO Cho Minh Thant downplayed the move as a formal attack on its former partner.
“If you look at the way the other tours are operating, as well, there’s instances where the PGA Tour plays in Asia. There’s instances where the DP World Tour is trying to or playing in Asia as well,” he said. “Obviously, there’s no boundaries anymore in the world of golf.”
“The International Series is not going to be geo-fenced,” Norman added. “Just because the International Series is associated with the Asian Tour, we want to get the message out there that it’s just not specifically for the Asian region, and that’s critically important for everybody to understand. Healthy competition and respectful competition should be spread globally.”
The second half of the year will see stops in Korea, Vietnam, and Indonesia before heading to the Middle East and then culminating in China, Singapore, and Hong Kong. Due to COVID-19 restrictions still in place in those countries, dates and sites for these events will be announced at a later time.
LIV Golf Investments also bumped its commitment to invest in the Asian Tour from $200 million to $300 million.
“In a nutshell, what have we really done? We’ve identified a new opportunity out of a lost opportunity,” said Norman, who called the Asian Tour a “sleeping giant.” “It’s because we believe in the players. We believe in the partners that we’re associated with, the Asian Tour. We believe in the future of where the game of golf can go.”
Plans call for each of the 10 events to be televised live across the globe, with a goal to attract an international field of headline talent.
In October, Norman was announced as CEO of LIV Golf Investments. PIF, which operates on behalf of the government of Saudi Arabia and ranks as one of the world’s largest sovereign wealth funds, is the majority shareholder in LIV Golf Investments.
The announcement comes on the eve of the Asian Tour’s new season with the $5 million PIF Saudi International starting this Thursday at Royal Greens Golf & Country Club. The field is comprised of six of the top 20 players in the world competing – including Americans Dustin Johnson, the 2019 and 2021 champion, and Bryson Dechambeau – as well as over 50 of the Asian Tour’s most prominent players and represents the strongest field in the history of the Asian Tour. The tournament, which is not part of the International Series, also offers one of the Asian Tour’s most lucrative purses.

SCHEDULE FOR ASIAN TOUR 2024 REVEALED
Asian Tour’s thriving 2024 tournament schedule points to good times ahead.
The Asian Tour’s remarkable period of accelerated growth will continue unabated in 2024 after it recently released another impressive and substantial schedule for the new season.
Hot on the heels of the completion of its 2023 season, the Tour has unveiled an initial schedule of 20 strong events across 12 countries – with a significant number of important tournaments to be added.
Once finalised it is expected that the schedule will surpass last year– which saw 23 events staged with total prize money of US$35 million.
The IRS Prima Malaysian Open returns to the 2024 schedule of the Asian Tour
The IRS Prima Malaysian Open will celebrate its return to the schedule after a four-year hiatus by becoming the season-opening event and will be played at The Mines Resort and Golf Club, from 15-18 February. The event was last played in 2020, when American Trevor Simsby triumphed.
It will be followed the week after by the International Series Oman – the first of 10 International Series events in 2024, which provide a pathway to the multi-million-dollar LIV Golf League.
International Series events will be played in Macau (International Series Macau presented by Wynn, 14-17 March), Morocco (4-7 July), Indonesia (31 October – 3 November), and Qatar (28 November 28 – 1 December).
New Zealand’s Ben Campbell’s birdie on the final hole won him the 2023 Hong Kong Open
The Hong Kong Open will once again be part of The International Series, and making its debut on the series will be the PIF Saudi International powered by Softbank Investment Advisers, which was the Tour’s opening event in 2022 and 2023. Both events will be in Q4. The dates will be announced later along with the details of three more International Series tournaments.
The Tour will also once again return to two of its traditional tournament strongholds, Korea and Chinese-Taipei.
Three events will be played in each market, with the GS Caltex Maekyung Open (2-5 May), Kolon Korea Open (20-23 June) and Shinhan Donghae Open (5-8 September) staged in Korea; while the Yeangder TPC (26-29 September), Mercuries Taiwan Masters (3-6 October) and Taiwan Glass Taifong Open (14-17 November) will be hosted in Chinese-Taipei.
The New Zealand Open presented by Sky Sport (29 February – 31 March), the Saudi Open presented by Public Investment Fund (17-20 April) and the SJM Macao Open (10-13 October) are also back on the schedule.
Abraham Ancer went wire-to-wire to win the Saudi International last year
“The strength and depth of the Asian Tour’s 2024 schedule is reflective of the phenomenal growth we have been enjoying and we are already excited about what the new year will bring,” said Cho Minn Thant, Commissioner and CEO, Asian Tour.
“Importantly, we are delighted to confirm the schedule so soon after the completion of our 2023 season, which will allow our members to plan accordingly and act as an enormous incentive to those heading to Qualifying School.
“The International Series events combined with our central column of established tournaments form the backbone of the Tour while we look forward to being able to announce other premier events in due course.”
The Asian Development Tour schedule will be released later in 2024 and will feature an expanded line-up of tournaments, for what is the Asian Tour’s constantly evolving feeder circuit.

FOUR INTERNATIONAL SERIES EVENTS PART OF ASIAN TOUR'S EARLY 2023 SCHEDULE
Four International Series tournaments, including debut events in the Middle East and trips to Thailand and Vietnam, are included in the early portion of the 2023 Asian Tour schedule released Friday .
The 2023 season will mark the second year of the LIV Golf-supported International Series, the ground-breaking set of elevated events on the Asian Tour that recognizes and develops next-generation stars while providing playing opportunities for LIV Golf members. LIV Golf has made a sizable commitment to the International Series, with prize purses of $2 million or more for each tournament to help invigorate the game in Asia and the Middle East.
The International Series also offers a pathway to playing privileges at LIV Golf events. Zimbabwe’s Scott Vincent won the International Series Order of Merit in 2022 and received an exemption to play in the upcoming 2023 LIV Golf League . Vincent and several others also played a full LIV schedule in 2022 thanks to their success in last year’s International Series events.
The 2023 Asian Tour season will open with its flagship event, the $5 million PIF Saudi International powered by Softbank Investment Advisers on Feb. 2-5. Royal Greens Golf and Country Club, site of the last regular-season event during the inaugural 2022 LIV Golf Invitational Series, is the tournament venue for the fifth consecutive year. The defending champion is current LIV Golf member Harold Varner III, who won in dramatic fashion with a 92-foot eagle putt on the final hole to beat Bubba Watson; the two eventually became teammates on Niblicks GC, with Watson the non-playing captain while recovering from knee surgery.
The first International Series tournament takes place the following week, Feb. 9-12 in Oman. The $2 million event will be held in Muscat at Al Mouj Golf, Oman’s first links-style course set along more than a mile of coastline along the Indian Ocean. The layout, designed by LIV Golf CEO and Commissioner Greg Norman, is considered the second-best course in the region, according to the Top 100 Golf Courses rankings. It will be the first International Series event ever held in the Middle East.
The International Series will remain in the Middle East for the event in Qatar, Feb. 16-19. The host course for the $2.5 million tournament is Doha Golf Club, among the oldest golf destinations in the region. Current LIV members Branden Grace, Sergio Garcia and Henrik Stenson have won professional events at Doha, which first hosted the Qatar Masters in 1998.
International Series Thailand will return to Black Mountain Golf Club on March 9-12. Located in the foothills outside the royal town of Hua Hin, Black Mountain has been voted as Thailand’s top course seven times and hosted its first professional event in 2009. Last year, it was the venue for the first of seven International Series events, with Sihwan Kim winning the title that helped lead to several LIV Golf starts.
A month later, International Series Vietnam will be played at KN Golf Links in Cam Ranh on April 13-16. The Norman-designed signature course, a links-style layout with views of the South China Sea, ranks among the best in Asia. It will be the first time in seven years that the Asian Tour has played in Vietnam.
A total of 10 International Series events will be part of the full 2023 Asian Tour schedule, with the remaining six in the series to be included in future announcements.
“The Asian Tour is absolutely thrilled with how the schedule looks,” Asian Tour Commissioner and CEO Cho Minn Thant said in Friday's news release. “It reaches a wide range of exciting destinations, offers extremely lucrative purses, world-class venues and a great balance of established and new events.”

US$ 7.5 million prize purse - Mon 18 to Sun 24 Jul

Mo returned a commendable 74 on day 1 but 79 on day 2 at 7 over was not enough for him to make the cut at the 3M Open however undeterred Mo went on to try and qualify to play in the Rocket Mortgage Classic via the Monday Qualifier, where he shot am impressive 73 on a course that he had never played... but unfortunately failed to secure a spot as the winning scores to secure one of the places via the Monday Qualifier was -6
The silver lining to this story is that Mo has successfully crowd funded in excess of US$ 50,000 which will enable him to stay on in the USA for the remainder of 2022 to contest the Korn Ferry Tour / Q School and allow him to continue on his journey and fulfil his dream of playing on the PGA Tour.
It was our pleasure to have Mo participate, he is a very nice well-mannered young gentlemen, with a most promising future ahead of him in golf...

The establishment of strategic alliances between many of the regional golf circuits and the DP World Tour has provided new impetus for Asia’s rising stars to shoot for coveted places in golf’s promised land, known otherwise as the PGA Tour.

The DP World Tour staged tournaments in Japan and China as part of its four-leg Asian Swing that includes Singapore and India, thus allowing aspiring golfers from the four countries to dream of propelling their careers onto the highest level.
From partnerships established with the Japan Golf Tour Organisation, Korean PGA Tour, China Golf Association, Professional Golf Tour of India and PGA of Australia, the respective No. 1s from those circuits will earn DP World Tour playing status and from there, the pathway has one final destination as the Top-10 from the DP World Tour’s Race to the Dubai rankings, not otherwise exempt, will secure dual memberships and coveted PGA Tour cards.
“The PGA Tour is, of course, the ultimate tour to be on,” said Gavin Green, the only Malaysian on the DP World Tour since 2018. “I think every kid who plays always has dreams to end up there. I think the DP World Tour Top-10 to the PGA Tour is a great incentive.”

Golf’s international ecosystem has already begun to reap the “play better” mantra, which reinforces the ideals of the PGA Tour and DP World Tour to safeguard the concept of meritocracy in the sport. Essentially, if you become the top player at home, you get promoted to the DP World Tour, which has 44 events across the globe and approximately $150 million in prize funds. Finish top-10 there, and the PGA Tour awaits.
Last weekend's ISPS Handa Championship in Gotemba, Japan, with Mount Fuji as the backdrop, saw former world amateur No. 1, Keita Nakajima looking to scale new heights following a wire-to-wire four-stroke victory in the Hero Indian Open last month.
Naturally, he has set his sights on the PGA Tour after he joined fellow countryman Rikuya Hoshino as a winner this season on the DP World Tour, formerly the European Tour. Hoshino was victorious in Qatar in February and two other runner-up finishes lifted him up to second place on the DP World Tour rankings.
The 23-year-old Nakajima believes the new pathways are pushing aspiring golfers to aim for the stars. “I'm very grateful to the JGTO and DP World Tour,” said Nakajima, who was Japan’s No. 1 last season and is presently 15th in the Race to Dubai rankings. “Knowing that placing first on the (JGTO) money list will get you a DP World Tour card is added motivation to play better. Many Japanese players will look to compete here as a way to make it onto the PGA Tour. I hope I can continue to play well and make my way to the PGA Tour, and become an example to other Japanese players who have the same aspirations.”
Nakajima finished the ISPS Handa Championship in tied 11th with a 10-under-par, 270.
Ryo Hisatsune, 21, is another source of inspiration, although he took a slightly different route by gaining his DP World Tour playing rights through Qualifying School in Europe, which is regarded as one of the hardest tests in the game. Last September, he secured a sensational victory at the Cazoo Open de France which helped earn him a PGA Tour card for 2024. He has already posted five top-35 finishes this season and earned a special invitation to the Masters Tournament.
For others like Thailand’s Kiradech Aphibarnrat, who lost his PGA Tour playing rights in 2022 after spending four seasons in the U.S., a return to the DP World Tour has allowed him to find his feet again after landing in more rough than fairways in recent years. The Thai, who was in the field in Gotemba over the weekend, returned to the spotlight with a runner-up finish in the Porsche Singapore Classic in February, and knows winning a fifth career title on the DP World Tour could well pave his way back to America.
“I will leave that to the future,” the 34-year-old said about the prospects of getting back to the PGA Tour. “I’m just going to try to win on the DP World Tour again. Winning is the goal this season. My ball striking was insane (in Singapore) and feels like I’m back to where it was. I know I’ve got something in me.”
With the Volvo China Open featuring on the DP World Tour schedule this coming weekend following a four-year hiatus, the likes of Li Haotong and Wu Ashun will relish the opportunity to play on home turf.
The 28-year-old Li, who is a three-time DP World Tour winner and China’s first golfer to play in the Presidents Cup in 2019, has shown signs of a resurgence after a challenging past couple of years with indifferent form and numerous missed cuts that he cares to remember. He has never held a PGA Tour card, and it remains to be seen if he will fulfill his early promise which includes a memorable third-place finish at The Open Championship in 2017.
“So many people behind me, parents, friends, telling me how good I am, reminding me I can do this,” said Li, whose biggest career title to date was the 2018 Dubai Desert Classic where he outduelled Rory McIlroy in a head-to-head showdown. “I’ve been thinking that if I had worked this hard and still couldn’t make anything I would find something else to do. But the results tell me I can keep going.”
Later this October, the DP World Tour will return to Asia for the Genesis Championship in Korea , where the top 110 players on the Race to Dubai Rankings in partnership with Rolex earning their DP World Tour cards for 2025 at the conclusion of the tournament, while the top 70 will qualify for the DP World Tour Play-Offs. Korea’s leading golfers on the KPGA Tour will certainly be ready to fight for a win to take advantage of the opportunity to shine on home ground.

Tom McKibbin (16-1, DraftKings)
After McKibbin finished T-7 last week in Japan, he surely watched his fellow Holywood Club member Rory McIlroy win in New Orleans.
The man from Northern Ireland has seven top-25 finishes in eight starts this year.
He ranks fourth on the DP World Tour for Strokes Gained: Off-The-Tee and should be able to rip this course with the driver.
Bernd Wiesberger (22-1, DraftKings)
Wiesberger won here at Hidden Grace back in 2017.
While he was just T-24 last week in Japan, he led the field for Greens In Regulation and was 12th for Strokes Gained: Approach.
He is a multiple-time winner in Asia and should feel back at home on this course.
Alexander Levy (40-1, DraftKings)
Levy is a two-time winner of the Volvo China Open, including on this course in 2014.
He lost his DP World Tour card at the end of 2023 and has been playing at lower levels recently but has shown promise. He finished seventh and fourth in consecutive weeks on the Professional Golf Tour of India last month, runner-up two weeks ago on the Challenge Tour in Abu Dhabi and ninth last week in the UAE also on the Challenge Tour.
Kiradech Aphibarnrat (40-1, BetRivers)
Aphibarnrat won the Shenzhen International on this course back in 2015.
He was runner-up in Singapore six weeks ago losing in a playoff to Jesper Svensson.
On his way to finishing 30th last week, he ranked second in the field for Strokes Gained: Tee-To-Green.
Johannes Veerman (60-1, FanDuel)
Veerman is playing his first event in a month after finishing runner-up at the Hero Indian Open.
He ranks 13th on the DP World Tour for Greens In Regulation and 21st for Strokes Gained: Putting.
Ivan Cantero Gutierrez (90-1, BetMGM)
The Spaniard has two top-6 finishes in his last three events with a T-6 in South Africa at the Jonsson Workwear Open and a T-3 last week in Japan where he led the field for Strokes Gained: Off-The-Tee and was fourth for Strokes Gained: Tee-To-Green.
He ranks 10th on the DP World Tour for Driving Distance and leads the Tour for Eagles, so he should be able to take full advantage of these par-5s.
