Beth Hart (born January 24th, 1972) is an American blues singer, songwriter and multi instrumentalist, hailing from Los Angeles, California.

Any singer of the blues needs to be able to sing from a place of truth in order for their message to be put across in genuine fashion, and that’s certainly the case where Beth Hart’s concerned. In her younger years, her passion for pursuing a career in music was often tempered by a debilitating drug addiction; eventually, though, it would be her love of the blues, fuelled by her difficult experiences, that would win out. In the late nineties, she had her first real hit, ‘LA Song (Out of this Town)’ off of her second studio album, ‘Screamin’ for My Supper’; it went to number one in New Zealand. As it happened, at the time, Hart was starring as Joplin off-Broadway - one listen to the sheer power of her voice makes you understand why she was a natural choice for that role.

In the years since, Hart’s fanbase has steadily grown on both sides of the Atlantic, and her recorded output has included the Danish chart-topper ’37 Days’ in 2007 and its follow-up, 2010’s critically-lauded ‘My California’. She’s also made two records with modern-day blues icon Joe Bonnamassa - a pairing that any blues fan worth their salt will tell you is a match made in heaven. In the UK, Hart’s burgeoning reputation was cemented in 2014, when she performed at the Royal Albert Hall in London.

Live reviews

Beth Hart Bares Her Soul To Captivated Eventim Apollo - 08/02/20

The Kris Barras Duo, being Kris and Josiah J Manning one half of The Kris Barras Band, opened proceedings with a half hour acoustic set. Both armed with acoustics but Josiah was also adding bass with his right booted foot and kick drum with his left socked foot.

Band favourites such as Heart On Your Sleeve, What You Get and Vegas Son all worked well acoustically but the duo's version of Midnight Rider was the piece de resistance. Hail Mary brought an excellent set to a close.

A short interval before the lights dimmed and Jon Nichols takes up position alone on stage with his acoustic guitar. Heads turn as Beth Hart's dulcet tones are heard and she suddenly appears at the back of the hall. Graciously moving down the centre aisle, interacting with the audience as she goes, she draws closer to the stage with husband, stage manager and protector Scott Guetzkow close by.

She eventually joins Nichols on stage for There In Your Heart, a gentle opening number before the full band then take up positions, Bill Ransom on drums and Tommy Lilly on bass for Close To My Fire. A band that is very close to Beth's heart as all three members have been with her for most of her twenty five year musical career. She has great trust in them emotionally and professionally.

Beth Hart sings everything from the heart and the great trauma and tragedy of her relatively young 48 years is the inspiration for almost everything she writes. It has not all been doom and gloom, however, and Rub Me For Luck is a heartfelt song with a very moving piano accompaniment that she wrote for her very good friend Joe Bonamassa...... 'Your guitar's a bleeding heart, If you play me like you play that thing,

You'd shine me like a diamond ring.....say no more.

If there is an artist who could add a feminine touch to a Tom Waits classic it would be Hart and it was a bonus that she could accommodate Chocolate Jesus within the set list on this night. This was followed by the excellent Bad Woman Blues before Beth took the band completely by surprise and opted to play a Bobby 'Blue' Bland number I'll Take Care Of You which featured on the covers album Don't Explain that she released with Joe Bonamassa in 2011.

'War In My Mind' (It's All Black In My Soul) the emotionally charged lyric from the title track War In My Mind from Hart's new album pretty much says it all. The rockier Sugar Shack also from her new album follows before the band take their leave and Beth has the stage to herself. Tell Her You Belong To Me was written for her father for whom she loves dearly and his partner who she only wished ill will upon. In fact in the past she would often dream of doing her serious harm. The lyric was strong and was sung with such emotion as she sat on the edge of the stage before taking to the stool behind her piano, totally captivating the audience.

Beth Hart has a voice to die for but what sometimes goes overlooked is her amazing talent as a pianist. It is no small wonder as she was classically trained from four years of age before she started delving into Etta James and even Led Zeppelin. The power of her voice coupled with the intensity of the piano would hold an audience spellbound ad infinitum.

The beautiful Sister Dear was written for one of Hart's sisters who I believe was in the audience on the night and she must have been absolutely blown away. Hart's absolute love for her mother shone brightly when she sang Mama This One's For You and was emotionally broken and in tears at the end. Hart brings this short solo section to a close with Baddest Blues before welcoming back Tommy Lilly who takes up his upright bass for Without Words Get In The Way. Nichols and Ransom join them mid way through with acoustic guitar and single drum/percussion respectively.

This acoustic set up prevailed for the remainder of this fabulous evening. Baby Shot Me Down had a real latin feel to it whilst If I Tell You I Love You a french vibe. Beth Hart demonstrated that there really was no limit to her talents as she joined the rest of her band on acoustic guitar.

Beth again took the band by complete surprise by bringing the main set of this fabulous evening's entertainment to a close with I'd Rather Go Blind before she was rapturously brought back for an encore. Beth Hart returned to her piano for the very dark and haunting Woman Down accompanied by Tommy Lilly on upright bass.

A fabulous evening wherein this tortured sole opened her heart but should be proud of the fact that she can captivate an audience and have them eating from her hand for a full two hours.

The Portland Oregon show was epic! Everything I have been waiting for and more. She hits the stage and all attention is on her, she sings, plays and dances with so much deep down soul crushing emotion. At one point she started a song and suddenly forgot a lyric of that song so she stops and says oh my I forgot the words, she laughs and gathers herself rather quickly then gets right back into it with the band right in time so perfectly. I actually loved the human element of an artist with some of the greatest God givin talents to have a situation like that and still put on such an amazing show. A true professional who is so gifted that its great she has a husband/manager that really sees to her needs and is as supportive as Scott is.This is by far one of my top 3 shows of this year. We bought tickets & told everyone we know about Beth Hart. We also won 2 extra tickets and turned them on to a few friends who had never heard of her before and Beth did what she does best sat down and played and sang her soul out for us all to witness. I even know a guy who teared up during some of her songs and that my friends is quite powerful stuff. Thank you so much for coming to the West coast and specifically Portland Oregon where we really love Beth Hart. Her musicians are exceptional and there is so much to be said about her show but to be honest I was totally mesmerized by her stage presence and amazing voice along with her very tight band. So in the end I had 10 friends who attended this show and every one of them is telling their friends about it and there will be even more of us next time. So please come back to Portland Oregon. I also was blessed to see her in the Kink.FM Bing Lounge about a year and a half ago and thats when I was hooked. Thank you Kink.fm. and see you next time Beth Hart Thank you so much.

“You got places to go, you got people to know, you got plans to get your shit together.” As Beth Hart offered her soul to the audience on Thursday night, I couldn’t help but wonder if she used those lyrics as a mantra during her recovery. The 43-year-old singer-songwriter from Los Angeles, California has written hit singles that have been featured on prime time television shows; she’s performed, recorded, and toured with some of the biggest names in blues. And she’s received a standing ovation from the President of the United States of America. Yet, her life has been marred by tragedy. Substance abuse, the death of a sister, and a bipolar diagnosis are enough to lay waste to the best of intentions, so it wasn’t surprising when Hart’s life followed through on the rest of that chorus, “Did you take it too far, did you forget who you are, did you stash your soul into the closet?” Fortunately, like the woman in the song, Beth Hart pulled it together. The happily married woman on the stage at the Gothic Theatre had recently released an excellent new album, and as she performed selections (life stories) from it, she was surrounded by an amazing backing band (including the drummer who left when she was a mess) and she had a smile on her face. If she was telling the truth about being on oxygen backstage because of the altitude, she wasn’t letting the situation get her down as she celebrated survival with song. - See more at: http://ilistensoyoudonthaveto.com/2015/09/20/beth-hart-gothic-theatre-09-16-15/#sthash.WtGuA9XS.dpuf

The gig at the Royal Concert HallGlasgow,14/2/20 was cancelled allegedly due to illness(a heavy worsening cold)suffered by Beth Hart. The notification was distributed by a paper notice on the door of the venue only 4 hours before event.See cancellation notice that was posted on her official website.

SURPRISINGLY,she was fit enough the following evening to do a live gig(15/2/20)in Newcastle(The Sage,Gateshead) which leaves the question-WHO IS TELLING LIES AND MISLEADING THE PUBLIC WHOM WERE SUPPOSED TO ATTEND THE GIG IN GLASGOW? DISGUSTING ! IF IT WAS A DISPUTE B/T THE PROMOTERS AND THE VENUE THEN, TRADING STANDARDS SHOULD INVESTIGATE !If Beth Hart's management, then their untrustworthiness needs to be repaid by a refusal for anyone from the region(Scotland)to buy tickets for her future gigs here. This would send a clear message of STAY AWAY !

Many people had also booked overnight accomodation to stay over which of itself incurred expense and is unacceptable. There should be recourse of expenses incurred against the promoters/Beth Hart management. No excuses,if she was not well enough to gig on friday night(14/2/20) then unless a miracle had taken place(no chance) NO WAY WAS SHE WELL ENOUGH ON THE FOLLOWING NIGHT saturday(15/2/20)Beth Hart and management take note!DO NOT INSULT PEOPLE'S INTELLIGENCE.You should all be ashamed of your misrepresentations in hiding the truth !!Enough said !

I had been so much looking forward to hearing Beth live, I had built it up so much I was worried it might be an anticipointment but despite this Beth exceeded my expectations and this was the best gig I've been to. I didn't want it to end! We all know that Beth has one of the best voices, musicianship, timing, the works. And so at one with the music, she's extremely spirited! What I wasn't prepared for though was how emotional it was. Beth opened her heart and soul up between songs, and won the crowd over with her honesty, natural energy and was brave enough to just be herself. This directness and honesty shines out of her, and so Beth connects with the audience quite deeply. She bares her soul and is a little bundle of excitement and confidence at the same time. I've never seen anyone who pulls this off so well. You can't help but feel inspired. None of this was I prepared for. Don't ever change Beth you are a breath of fresh air! Personally I can't think of any artists performing today who can top her for musicianship, humbleness and stage presence. One of the best voices in the world. If you have never heard Beth prepare to be captivated. Phenomenal.

A powerful performance from a unique and extremely engaging artist. Beth Harts latest tour of Australia kicked off with a bang in Perth on Thursday night when she reminded an enthusiastic crowd why live music deserves our continued support. Her set comprised a range of new songs and old favourites that showcased her vast talent as a singer, songwriter and musician that had the crowd enthralled from the opening number.

The lady sure knows how to connect with an audience.Apart from the unquestioned talent that was on display it was her relaxed manner and openness that made for a great show. Her ability to switch from whisper quiet mouthings from a seemingly tortured soul to full blown primal cries in song is hugely impressive. Her extremely able three piece band are as tight a group as you could wish to see and priovided her with great support. It seems at times that she is channeling different female and male voices from the pantheon of past legends but make no mistake. Beth Hart is a great talent in her own right and one that should definitely not be missed if she comes to a venue near you.

Wow. Beth Hart at the Carolina Theatre in Durham, NC. A beautifully restored 90 year-old theater was a great meeting for Beth. We've been fans for a while and assumed we'd never get to see her live without some serious travel, so how nice to get a show in our backyard.

Beth transformed a 2000 seat theater into an intimate club setting as she bounced between all the genres she excels in, blues, rock, hard rock, ballads, and gospel. The show pacing was terrific and you got the full scope of her catalog solo piano, acoustic with her band and full-on rock. She's known for playing with some of the best guitarists around and her touring band did not disappoint. In between songs she had the audience laughing, thinking and crying as she laid bare her triumphs and tragedies. It was raw in every sense, it's been awhile since we've seen a performer bring that much emotion to the stage. And despite all the sh*t she's been through, she approached the concert with a genuine sense of purpose and joy—and some amazing vocals. Rock on.

I went to see Beth Hart for the very first time back in 2005. She had just played Pinkpop for the first time and came back to NL for a short tour.

I had listened to her Pinkpop-performance on a small portable radio with bad reception, but knew I had to see this live. And so I did: Oosterpoort Groningen (NL), small venue. I was blown away, and absolutely hooked to that energy.

Since then I've seen her perform over 30 times. Her shows are raw and emotional and full of energy, she tells the best stories while on stage, and always delivers.

She's a total sweetheart too, if you're lucky enough to meet her. Lately she's getting more and more known due to her collaboration with Joe Bonamassa, and I've had the pleasure to see them together in Amsterdam. Brilliant show, worth every cent.

So yeah, go see Beth if you have the chance. It may be a bit expensive these days, but you'll thank yourself afterwards!

I went to 3 of Beths' gigs in 2 weeks in 2020 ... Absolutely brilliant. Easily the best gigs I've ever attended [& I grew up in the industry].

She did really well to bounce back so quickly from being really poorly in Glasgow. It's just as well she looks after herself & knows how to deal with these things. You could tell she didn't feel 100% at the shows following the cancellation, but you had to really look - as she's such a pro. She was still absolutely amazing, not a single duff note [as per] .... But there was a lot of snot hahaha

She's a very clever, honest & open woman. Totally under-rated in My opinion.

My tickets are bought for Autumn 2021 & the hotels are booked. I've a LOT of miles to do & I'm gonna be skint & knackered, but it'll be well worth it.

If you get the chance to see Beth & the boys then please jump at it - you won't regret it

Overwhelming performance of Beth Hart and Band in the Heineken Music Hall - Amsterdam, April 11th 2015.

It was amazing how Beth acted on this big stage. More than sold out, with over 6.000 audience she gave everything, emotionally and musically.

She dared to present old songs and new songs, of the latest cd "Better than Home", and even, for the encores, she sang solopieces, so emotional, it was awesome.

In between she was very confident with the audience and had deep and intimate tales about the songs.

It was a total success. Hope to see and hear more from her in the near future in Holland again.

Beth Hart in St. Pete: raw, authentic blues that feeds the soul

Live review.

beth hart tour 2022 france

By Chyrisse Tabone, Rock At Night Tampa

Live Review: Beth Hart with John Oates & Guthrie Trapp – Mahaffey Theater, St. Petersburg, Florida – April 27, 2022

beth hart tour 2022 france

Rock At Night has reviewed and written about Grammy-nominated blues artist Beth Hart for years. We interviewed her at the Baloise Session in Switzerland and reviewed her gigs in UK. The word on the street was: she is phenomenal live. I truly wanted to experience this for myself and had the opportunity to review and photograph her at  the Eventim-Apollo in Hammersmith, London in February 2020. It was after experiencing her raw and vulnerable performance I too became a disciple at the altar of Beth Hart. Her performance was moving beyond words.

Fast forward to November 2021, I was planning to review her show at the London Palladium—but her tour was cut short. Rats. Feeling disappointed and deprived, I was thrilled to see she would be performing in North America in Spring—and making an appearance in St. Petersburg, Florida. Truly the blues god heard my silent prayers because on April 27 th , the Venus of the Blues arrived.

beth hart tour 2022 france

The Mahaffey Theater in St. Petersburg, Florida bustled with a flurry of folks, as almost every seat was filled, including box seats and balconies. Starting at 7:40 p.m., the audience was treated to an intimate set of blues songs performed by John Oates (yeah, that John Oates) and guitarist Guthrie Trapp. While seated on wooden stools with acoustic guitar accompaniment, Oates performed as a solo artist and not as the “other half” of the duo Hall and Oates.  In fact, we were treated to not only his rich, nuanced bluesy voice and but also a glimpse of his personality has he relayed backstories to songs. The first part of the set consisted of traditional blues before entering ‘Hall and Oates’ territory with acoustic versions of “She’s Gone” and “Out of Touch”.  By this point the audience was singing along, toe tapping, and head nodding in approval. Special kudos goes to Guthrie Trapp whose guitar virtuosity fleshed out the duo’s sound. Oates ended the set with “It’s a Wonderful World” and a set that was the perfect introduction to an evening of blues.

After an intermission, the audience gathered back into the theater and waited for Beth Hart to appear on stage. Her voice was audible but the stage remained darkened. Suddenly, a spotlight shone at the rear of the theater as the diva made her way down the aisle, hugging people along the way, while singing “You Belong to Me”.  She then stepped on stage, looking extremely fit in her black jeggings, crop top, and toned arms. Unlike most people that gorged during COVID down time, Ms. Hart at 50 looked like a sultry panther as she glided across the stage, belting out songs like “Rhymes” and “Delicious Surprise” with raw, unabashed emotion and soul. She tossed her hair, squatted in front of the drums, and traded glances with longtime drummer Bill Ransom and guitarist Jon Nichols. She oozed sex appeal and raw energy. Yes, the blues rock goddess had arrived.

I couldn’t help but notice she was carrying a small wooden stick in the palm of her hand. Why? I discovered she carries it at concerts in place of a cigarette since she quit smoking. That is dedication.

Still in rock mode, she broke into “No Quarter” before segueing to a very poignant and emotionally charged version of “Babe, I’m Gonna’ Leave You.” One could feel her pleading as she cried “baby, baby, baby.”  If you have not listened to her recent album A Tribute to Led Zeppelin , put it on your playlist.

During the evening, Hart took her shoes off and got comfy on edge of the stage. She made the audience feel like friends gathered in a parlor. One could feel her vulnerability as she discussed her past experience with drugs, eating disorders, and abusive men (“a guy beat the shit out of me when I was 14”). She praised her longtime husband/manager Scott Guetzkow who supported her through personal ups and downs.

A very accomplished pianist, Hart accompanied the band while singing blues-rock songs and ballads.  Before performing “Bang Bang Boom Boom”, she explained her admiration of the main character in the film Natural Born Killers saying, “I so wanted to be her. Thank God I took my meds.”

Hart paid homage to guitarists with “Rub Me For Luck”, which truly showed off her phenomenal voice. She is one of few people that sounds better “live” than in recorded music, which seems to bury the nuances and depth of her vocal range.  She described while at a low point in her life she prayed saying, “God, I’m going to kill myself today”.  She began attending a Korean church on Sundays (where no English was spoken) and befriended a minister who taught her the meaning of gratitude. Heartbroken the minister was leaving for another congregation in Hawaii, Hart composed “War In My Mind.”

beth hart tour 2022 france

She explained the special relationship with her sister Sharon who passed away, before singing “Sister Heroine.”  A special moment was when her husband Scott came out to kiss her after singing “Hero.”

The touching stories of overcoming obstacles and glimpse into her personal life created almost a cathartic atmosphere for both Hart and the listener.  I was feeling verklemp t during most of the ballads like “Take It Easy On Me” and “Without Words in the Way”, which featured Tom Lily on the standup bass.

The mood became festive as the band lined up at the front of the stage to perform “Sugar Shack” and “Baby Shot Me Down, which had almost a Caribbean feel.  For the encore, after much cheers and clapping, Hart sang the beloved Etta James song “I’d Rather Go Blind.”

My friend Nancy said as we walked to the car, “Well, that was intense .”  While driving home I couldn’t help put Beth Hart’s music on the car radio so I could revel in the evening. I truly cannot think of a contemporary singer/songwriter today who evokes both the vulnerability and authenticity in songwriting as well as performance as she does. Her concerts are truly a spiritual experience.

CONCERT REVIEW: Blues Queen BETH HART – Badass and Beyond (April 21st, 2022)

beth hart tour 2022 france

It’s been a long two years. My hyper-cautious ass has been all too happy to stay away from crowds, and I only started tiptoeing my way out of plague mode last month,  twenty-four months and three days after my last concert. I’d been itching to get back into the photo-pit, where some two decades ago I first fell in love with what became my craft, and when the opportunity arose to photograph blues singer Beth Hart at my favorite live music theater in San Antonio, I was more than a little eager to shout “ yeah gimmie .” I had a passing familiarity with Ms Hart through her collaborations with Joe Bonamassa and was well aware of her notoriety on stage, so I was fairly certain I’d be in for something special.

Gig Review: Beth Hart, The Saban Theater, Beverly Hills, CA

Beth Hart photo by Martine Ehrenclou

Photo: Beth Hart by Martine Ehrenclou

By Martine Ehrenclou

Seeing Beth Hart live is an experience. And not one you’ll soon forget. Known for her dynamic stage presence, powerhouse vocals and songwriting inspired by her personal life, the Grammy nominated Hart has toured the world with Jeff Beck and Buddy Guy, recorded and performed with Joe Bonamassa. She has 10 solo albums to her name, the latest being A Tribute To Led Zeppelin .

Seated in the Saban Theater to see Beth Hart, the historic art deco theater was packed tight without one seat to spare.

The lights dimmed. Hart appeared at the rear of the venue, singing “Tell Her You Belong To Me,” dressed in a snakeskin print long dress, feet bare. Strolling down the aisle connecting with fans along the way, she sang the melancholy song about the father who left her, eventually letting loose with stunning vocals that flooded the 2000-seat venue. The crowd went absolutely wild, most on their feet to see Beth Hart among them before she made her way to the stage.

Beth Hart is a musical force. Not just because of her impressive vocals and range, but because she throws herself fully into her performances, both vulnerable and fierce at the same time. Her concert is an intimate one, and she understands clearly how to connect with her fans. Regarded as one of the top blues/R&B/jazz vocalists today, she is a risk taker, a mix of danger and innocence that’s reflected in her well-crafted and introspective songwriting.

A sultry grinder “Sinners Prayer” followed with Hart digging deep on this gritty number. It’s her attitude on stage that fuels her soaring, superb vocals, soft at times and hard-edged at others. Completely in control of her voice, Hart gave into this tune, undulating to the rhythm. Guitarist Jon Nichols’ slide guitar solo added another level of grit and emotion. Other top-tier band members include Bill Ransom on drums and Tom Lilly on bass. Hart connected with each one at different times during the show.

Beth Hart photo by Martine Ehrenclou

Seated at the piano with votive flameless candles scattered on its surface, Hart and the band launched into “Swing My Thing Back Around,” a jazzy, R&B tune with a big band feel that lifted the mood in the room. Hart then shared personal details about her husband and said, “My husband is so f*king awesome.”

After an explosive “Love Is a Lie,” a song that reflects times of deep struggle from her past, the band’s interconnection with Hart was apparent. Sharing anecdotes of her addiction and sobriety, she revealed her strengths as a storyteller, using her life as a vehicle to relate to others. Her song “Thankful” followed, sung on her knees at the edge of the stage with Nichols on acoustic guitar next to her. The crowd cheered for her journey to gratitude. And she thanked them in the most genuine way for their support.

Hart is a master at engaging her audience, not just to incite them to sing along with her or echo lyrics, but to connect with her personal stories. Part of that is her openness on stage, interspersed with humor about herself.

One of the highlights of the evening came when Beth delivered an emotional “War In My Mind” at the piano, a song about her darkest moments. Hart has a way with intensely personal lyrics paired with gorgeous melodies.

Someone from the audience shouted out a song request. Alone at the piano, she admitted, “I didn’t play it for a couple of years because I didn’t want you to think I’m soft. I want you to think I’m tough, scary. And I am scary.” And you believed her. Because there is something dangerous about Beth Hart. With those vocals and range, the depth of her soulfulness, her access to so much emotion, including anger and wickedness, it can be a little intimidating. And at the time same, you can’t help but like her because she’s so honest with who she is and what she’s been through, from her darkest life passages straight through to her triumphs. A survivor, she makes it easy to root for her.

Performing the tender “Take It Easy On Me” followed by “Leave the Light On,” the audience grew silent. Hart’s voice and piano swelled in the room.

After the beautiful “When Words Get In the Way,” Bill Ransom on drums, Tom Lilly on standup bass, and Jon Nichols on acoustic guitar joined Beth at the front of the stage for an intimate, percussive jam “Sugar Shack.” Hart and the band gave into the groove, with Ransom at the helm driving the rhythm. Beth sat next to him, vamping and having the time of her life.

Considering her latest album is A Tribute To Led Zeppelin , songs from that release were noticeably absent with the exception of “No Quarter/Babe I’m Gonna Leave You.” Seated on the stage, during “I’m Gonna Leave You” Beth gave herself over to the song, lying on her back, her body alive with the energy of the music. The audience shouted with delight. She ended the evening with the show-stopper, “I’d Rather Go Blind” (Etta James.)

Beth Hart is riveting to watch. With tremendous talent as an artist, it’s a rewarding and rich experience to see her perform live.

Beth Hart 2022 – Thankful Tour

March 5, 2022, foxwoods great cedar showroom.

beth hart tour 2022 france

Beth Hart a well known performer in the blues community gave a fantastic, soulful and saucy performance at the Foxwoods Grand Cedar Showroom on March 5 to a receptive audience glad to be back in a theater to hear the much-missed singer. Picking up her schedule again in the New England area where Covid had canceled so many concerts last year both Beth and the audience were ready for a great night of good music.

This is Hart’s Thankful Tour and also a showcase of her new album “A Tribute to Led Zeppelin.” Beth opened the show with “Dancing Days” and “When the Levy Breaks” off her new album and tributes to Led Zeppelin. These two numbers started the night with a promise of an energetic performance.

beth hart tour 2022 france

Hart introduced her band consisting of Jon Nichols on guitar, Tom Lilly on bass and Bill Ransom on drums. All of them great musicians on their own but the combination delivered a dynamic blend of talent for the night.

During the performance Hart starts off at the mic either standing or comfortably sitting on the edge of the stage, or on a stool. She’s comfortable in whatever position she feels like taking at the moment. At times her strutting and expressions resemble Mick Jagger and his ability to amble the stage, dancing and crooning with a frenetic energy that just draws you in. Then in the blink of an eye she can switch to a song that brings up a painful or poetic memory in her life and you can feel the emotion projected in her music.

beth hart tour 2022 france

Beth has a gift of conveying emotions so well she brings you into her mind and gives you a sense of how she felt dealing with whatever pain, joy, gratitude or anger she experienced in the moments that were the inspiration for each of the songs. She prefaces some songs with the background of her life and what happened to make the song so meaningful for her. It’s genuine feelings of heartbreak, sometimes joy, but either way she paints a picture of it all through her music so very well. I looked around and saw some around me tear up during a couple of numbers, perhaps she drew out some emotion they felt in their life the songs pulled out. But that’s the blues and she does it so well.

After a few songs with the band Beth went to the piano and gave beautiful versions of “I Need A Hero” and “Leave The Light On” and “Woman Down.”

The last four songs after the band rejoins her are at the front of the stage with Beth comfortably seated surrounded by her bandmates in close folk style staging. They start with “Sugar Shack” a catchy fast paced toe tapper. Beth is such an expert at taking the audience from heartfelt numbers in crooning blues to road trippin’, knee slapping songs she plays the audience’s emotions as much as she does the guitar and piano.

beth hart tour 2022 france

Then she starts “The Boogieman” a song never released on an album but haunting in a tale of the forgotten, shamed and discarded of society and the lifelong toll it takes to the point some snap. We all have boogiemen she reveals the shape some take in our fears.

Hart included the song “Isolation.” An eerie song of being in a psych ward under in isolation and the whispers going through someone’s mind during that time. She has only performed this a few times on tour.

For her encore she sang “Thankful.” The audience gave Hart and the band a standing ovation. It made many reflect on Covid and conflicts we are going through as a nation and the world as a whole. The fact that we have come through the worse we hope and after losing so many and so much we can still laugh, sing and cheer all together in a theater once again is reaffirming that no matter how hard the struggle we didn’t lose faith just as Beth Hart has done through her life and career.

This was a fantastic show and I recommend that if you get the chance to see Beth Hart live go for it. Now more than ever a live show is a salve for the mind and soul and there is no better to see than her for an evening of great music.
