Bon Voyage Restaurant

Ratings and reviews, location and contact.

It’s been years since we stopped here - life changes the roads we travel but today we headed North West and needed a place for lunch. It was comforting to see the cake/pie turning display and big comfy booths. The waitresses were friendly and prompt... and the food was good. I had soup (very hearty), my husband had a clubhouse (real chicken not processed) and my daughter had the chicken quesadillas (healthy portion). Good food - we left satisfied. A bit pricy for lunch ($60.00) but what is cheap anymore? For decent food that isn’t processed you have to pay. We will go again for sure. More

My girlfriend won’t read this because she loves Bon Voyage and doesn’t want to read my criticism of it. That’ll mark the high point to start this review. It all goes downhill from here. There were four us meeting here for a supper, a broad... range of ordered dishes to order, promising comprehensive coverage. Bon Voyage had been renovated since I had last been here, and following the commandments put forth in the family restaurant bible, the new décor had more shades of brown than the Clairol wall at Sears. In defense, it’s a step up from my previous visit. The Bon Voyage—or is it Westgate Grill & Banquet, because I seriously don’t know—is still a family restaurant no matter how much spackle you throw upon the foundations. It’s still open at 6:00 am. The tables are still crowded by salt and pepper shakers and a wad of crinkled ketchup packets. It still has the same confused and vague stain-proof menu (it might have changed since renovation, but good luck trying to find how). Over two pages, I can choose between stir-fry, Greek or pasta. There is a section titled sandwiches, another hamburgers, yet another for steaks and one more…for beef. Despite all the other sections, there was still enough to add more beef. My entrée came with soup, garlic bread, potatoes, beef, and onions; of course my soup came flanked with plastic-wrapped Premium Plus wafers, that’s just a given, like coming back from Africa with a virus. My entrée looked like someone dropped two fistfuls of ingredients into a hot pan and a mixed it a few minutes. Gigantic chunks of vegetables saddled beside lazily cut onion (a couple pieces were still connected to their roots) and topped with half a cow. My girlfriend’s steak still had a pulse and was flanked with enough mashed potatoes to feed an extended family of Irish immigrants (too soon?). Let’s call it what it is, a mess, something rushed. And let’s be honest, who can blame them? Go back 163 words and read that part on menu selection. How can anyone expect a chef to be prepared to make forty dishes from four different cuisines and have them flawlessly plated in less than thirty minutes? I could turn around and call this praise, a lesser chef would have seasoned the steak with his own frontal lobe. Let me stress again about how big and varied this menu was. I still haven’t mentioned all the sections, there was also seafood, appetizers, house specialties, childrens, and seniors. Hell, it took us ten minutes to even decide what to eat. After all was said and done, I still took half my plate home. A recent conversation about the history of restaurants in Prince George brought up memories of these unchanging artifacts of the city’s past, the Carmel, Camelot Court, Connaught, a time where choice was limited between either these stalwarts or the many Chinese buffets scattered about town like brothels in Ancient Rome. I fondly reminisced of the days of Binos and McCloud 9. But these are memories best left in the past. No matter how well Bon Voyage dresses itself, the menu proves that underneath its new skin, it’s still a dinosaur. I have lamented family restaurants often, and why? Why do I have to? Why do they all have to disappoint? I know they all don’t; I’ve read about better ones…but they’re not here. Here, our family restaurants are depressing relics from a time where this town was defined by a singular industry, and if you didn’t cater to people walking around with a bottle of Jake’s hot sauce in their pocket, you were doomed to fail. A friend offered a metaphor that family restaurants are like Ikea furniture, a nice façade covering cheap wood pulp. I think that comparison is an insult. I’d buy Ikea. Food: 2/5 Service: 3/5 Presentation: 3/5 Value: 3.5/5 Recommendation: 2.8/5 PS: By the way, I’m not a cocktail connoisseur, so I got a kick out of a drink called Holy Water—giving me temporary hope that Bon Voyage was a possible nearby refuge when vampires attack. More

While the selection was above average the quality was lacking. The potatoes were cold, the hollandaise sauce was not very good and we needed a steak knife to cut through the english muffins. Our server was attentive and friendly and the coffee was refilled as... needed. My biggest complaint was the bill....$22.95 and then another $3.15 for coffee, so the meal was $26.10 per person and the selection and quality was not worth $26.10. Will not make that mistake again! More

Amazing experience at the Bon Voyage Restaurant. Their Greek food was awesome with fantastic portion sizes and great flavour. You did not leave hungry at this restaurant. Even my kids plate had a full size like an adult with the kids menu. The server we... had was fantastic, haven’t had a server that amazing in a very long time. She was so attentive and constantly kept our drinks filled. Went for my birthday and they gave me a free dessert which was so sweet. Will definitely be coming back here again. Would recommend this restaurant to anyone. More

I do not live in Prince George, but recently chose the Bon Voyage Restaurant to make a consolation Greek meal for a family. I spoke with Karen who helped me plan the menu, delivery of the meal and details. Once she learned of the circumstances,... Karen was the most kindest and generous person I have ever dealt with. She used her own personal time to not only ensure the meal was spectacular, but took it upon herself to include flowers and a card at no cost to us. She kept me updated right up until the delivery. I have since heard from the family, and they raved about how delicious the dinner was and the portions were huge. I would highly recommend this restaurant for their exemplary customer service, attention to detail and of course the delicious food. My overall rating for the Bon Voyage Restaurant is definitely 5 stars *****! More

We were ignored when we arrived, then told they'd be right with us. Then ignored again. Finally were taken to a table and ignored. Occasionally one of the waitresses would say "we'll be right with you" and then never return. A woman came by and... said, "as soon as I check these people out at the cash register I'll be back to take your order" They checked out and left but she never returned. We finally got smart and left. More

While staying at a nearby hotel on a business trip, I decided to try the Bon Voyage for some Greek food instead of driving back into town. . I frequent many restaurants while away on assignment and as it turned out, it was a very... good decision. Excellent food quality and the service was second to none. I had the spanakopita dinner which was generous and tasty. I would highly recommend this place even though it’s a bit out of town, worth the drive if staying in town. More

We are traveling , staying next door , and had the senior meals. Good size portions The beef souvlaki was excellent. A nice strip of steak charbroiled medium..Greek salad , rice and potatoes. Chicken souvlaki also great . Excellent service and proper covid protocol. The... breakfast is also great. Obviously a very well managed business. I was a Restaurant consultant for years and would rate this one as excellent More

Used to go here for brunch pre-Covid and selection was amazing and one of our favorites. The renovations look good, nicely updated since our last visit, Our first time out for brunch in 2 years and this was our choice based on past experience and... was sadly disappointed. Very small selection of food items and brunch for 2 was $55 with tax. Breakfast items were plain scrambled eggs, pancakes, French toast, hash browns, sausage, bacon and eggs benny. Eggs benny had lunch meat ham but eggs were medium and sauce was ok. Lunch items were rice, mixed veggies (looked frozen and heated), meatballs, a cutlet in gravy, lasagna or cabbage rolls The lasagna tasted like store bought Prego sauce or pre-made frozen lasagna warmed. The cabbage rolls were chewy and not that flavorful. The salad bar was a green salad, fruit salad or Greek salad and the Greek salad was the best part of the whole meal but with very few black olives. Dessert was store bought squares (Nanaimo or butter tart or brownies) or a few pieces of store bought pie (couldn't tell if it was coconut or banana cream by flavor) surrounded by a few glasses 1/2 filled with jello. Our waitress kept wiping her nose with her hand and no hand hygiene was performed in the time we were there. The bathroom had bits of paper all over the floor and the bathroom check chart by the sink was initialed once a month with the most recent date Mar 5-over 3 weeks ago. Menu chalk board indicated pricing and free mimosa with brunch- it was never offered and we didn't notice until we left. We asked 3 servers what age constituted a senior and the 3rd server finally said 65, other answers were 55 or no clue. Meals of those around us that ordered menu meals looked more appetizing so maybe that was the way to go. We won't be back, there was nothing that looked fresh or home made and most of the hot items were barely luke warm. I don't need lots of choices but I do expect hot and home made and cleanliness and hygiene, This place was a disappointment on all aspects. More

Had a good selection of food. Looks fresh, you can have breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert in one meal. Service is always great and very friendly. Price was decent for the variety that you get.

We had our annual Christmas Dinner there and it was marvelous! Awesome feature helpings of food and world class service.

the food was great. And the service was amazing. Friendly and helpful the atmosphere was also very welcoming

Saturday nite Greek Buffet is truly top quality, with large selections, at a very reasonable price. Service is impeccable, this continues to b a favorite of ours.

The food is amazing, service was great, food was out within 10 minutes hot, tender, juicy and so delicious.

I ordered chicken souviaki, very tasty. My friend had the buffet and she was quite pleased with the variety and presentation. The server was attentive to our needs and very friendly. The only negative was the rug on the floor. It needed a good vacuum... and more attention. More

We had a group of fourteen show up without warning. The staff were cordial and quickly set up to receive us. Everyone ordered something different from the breakfast and lunch menu. We were all served our various meals, coffee, tea etc within minutes of one another. The food was prepared to order. I had the chicken souvlaki and it was EXCELLENT. We all appreciated the server's attention and the quality of our meal. We will ALL be happy to continue to patronize on the regular!
I look forward to Sunday breakfast. The Breakfast BLT has never let me down, neither has the staff. Incredible energy and presence from the staff. They make every visit feel like home. Keep up the great work.
I had the special of the day (veal cutlets) and the portion size was huge. My waitress was friendly and gave outstanding service. I should have skipped the excellent cheesecake because I was stuffed!

I like the food here. The restaurant has very big dining area and amazing deals all day like special lunch price. Before covid they had buffet service as well . Now u can order your favourite greek dishes along with drinks. They also serve coffee and all kinds of teas. Since everything in Prince George is close by so this place is little out of the main downtown area but not a long drive.

Great restaurant came here for an afternoon buffet while travelling through Prince George. The mussels and shrimp were fresh and delicious. My favourite is the cakes it is moist and fluffy way better standard than any buffet place I have ever been. Definitely a good stop for a Sunday buffet. The buffet is only available Sundays all other days it is a la carte!

I've had dinner and lunch here and find the food very good. Had the prime rib dinner and chorizo, chicken, shrimp pasta dinner. My husband had a greek salad. Portions are large and food fantastic. I would eat here again!

Better than I thought it would be considering the sign just says restaurant. Lol The service was fast and friendly. The food was tasty. They even accommodated a gluten and egg allergy with ease. Decor is decent. I had a chicken caesar. It had a bit too much dressing for me but other than that was good. My husband had the steak with mushrooms and fries. The fries were a little too salty butt otherwise the food was good. I would eat there again! Totally cost of the food with a hot chocolate was $50.

My girlfriend won't read this because she loves Bon Voyage and doesn't want to read my criticism of it. That'll mark the high point to start this review. It all goes downhill from here. There were four us meeting here for a supper, a broad range of ordered dishes to order, promising comprehensive coverage. Bon Voyage had been renovated since I had last been here, and following the commandments put forth in the family restaurant bible, the new décor had more shades of brown than the Clairol wall at Sears. In defense, it's a step up from my previous visit. The Bon Voyage--or is it Westgate Grill & Banquet, because I seriously don't know--is still a family restaurant no matter how much spackle you throw upon the foundations. It's still open at 6:00 am. The tables are still crowded by salt and pepper shakers and a wad of crinkled ketchup packets. It still has the same confused and vague stain-proof menu (it might have changed since renovation, but good luck trying to find how). Over two pages, I can choose between stir-fry, Greek or pasta. There is a section titled sandwiches, another hamburgers, yet another for steaks and one more...for beef. Despite all the other sections, there was still enough to add more beef. My entrée came with soup, garlic bread, potatoes, beef, and onions; of course my soup came flanked with plastic-wrapped Premium Plus wafers, that's just a given, like coming back from Africa with a virus. My entrée looked like someone dropped two fistfuls of ingredients into a hot pan and a mixed it a few minutes. Gigantic chunks of vegetables saddled beside lazily cut onion (a couple pieces were still connected to their roots) and topped with half a cow. My girlfriend's steak still had a pulse and was flanked with enough mashed potatoes to feed an extended family of Irish immigrants (too soon?). Let's call it what it is, a mess, something rushed. And let's be honest, who can blame them? Go back 163 words and read that part on menu selection. How can anyone expect a chef to be prepared to make forty dishes from four different cuisines and have them flawlessly plated in less than thirty minutes? I could turn around and call this praise, a lesser chef would have seasoned the steak with his own frontal lobe. Let me stress again about how big and varied this menu was. I still haven't mentioned all the sections, there was also seafood, appetizers, house specialties, childrens, and seniors. Hell, it took us ten minutes to even decide what to eat. After all was said and done, I still took half my plate home. A recent conversation about the history of restaurants in Prince George brought up memories of these unchanging artifacts of the city's past, the Carmel, Camelot Court, Connaught, a time where choice was limited between either these stalwarts or the many Chinese buffets scattered about town like brothels in Ancient Rome. I fondly reminisced of the days of Binos and McCloud 9. But these are memories best left in the past. No matter how well Bon Voyage dresses itself, the menu proves that underneath its new skin, it's still a dinosaur. I have lamented family restaurants often, and why? Why do I have to? Why do they all have to disappoint? I know they all don't; I've read about better ones...but they're not here. Here, our family restaurants are depressing relics from a time where this town was defined by a singular industry, and if you didn't cater to people walking around with a bottle of Jake's hot sauce in their pocket, you were doomed to fail. A friend offered a metaphor that family restaurants are like Ikea furniture, a nice façade covering cheap wood pulp. I think that comparison is an insult. I'd buy Ikea. Food: 2/5 Service: 3/5 Presentation: 3/5 Value: 3.5/5 Recommendation: 2.8/5 PS: By the way, I'm not a cocktail connoisseur, so I got a kick out of a drink called Holy Water--giving me temporary hope that Bon Voyage was a possible nearby refuge when vampires attack.

Have you ever gotten the impression some things in life are constructed like license plates? A huge sheet of plain steel rolls out, a large blade slices off a square, and a massive press stamps a random indicator of distinction. I think of the Hyundai Accent of being built like that--as if walking into a dealer and asking, "I'll have fifteen feet of car please. They roll out the sheet and slap the cutter down; here's your car: you now have that length of vehicle. Mobile homes are like that to, and I believe some people wander through life having emerged from an assembly line of mediocrity. Apparently certain restaurants are like this as well, dropped from a conveyer belt called "Family Restaurant". The chairs are that single-metal-curved-pipe, rounded-top variety. The menu must separate sandwiches from burgers with another complete page dedicated just to steak. It will offer a scattershot of regional dishes with Italian, Greek, and Chinese cuisine sharing the same page. The restaurant opens at 6:00 am and offers two stacks of menus, breakfast and lunch/dinner--because nothing says lunch like a 10 oz steak. I don't look forward to these locations when I decide to visit them. Sometimes they're so depressing, they'd have broken the spirit of a dung beetle. And other times, I have to admire their capacity to offer 4 lbs. of food for $8.95. I can respect the openly family restaurant. I use the word "openly", like it's coming out of the closet and marching in parades. I'll often condemn restaurants for acting ethnic and traditional while offering dishes made fashionable by Denny's. At least some places come clean with what they are. The hang their label proudly. I had this many months ago with the Carmel--a restaurant that probably hasn't changed since 1975. I'm seeing it again with the Bon Voyage. I had a momentary sense of Déjà-Vu, though this lacks a considerable amount of embellishment compared to the Carmel. Bon Voyage looks a little too scotch guarded for my taste. The menu appears a carbon reprint from their competition--everything is listed where it's supposed to. There are steaks, burgers, and separate sections for Greek and Italian food. And spring rolls with the appetizers. Only in a Family restaurant can you have pita and spring rolls with your baked spaghetti. I was all over the baked lasagna for $9.95 when the waitress recommended the aforementioned baked spaghetti, which was delivered in a sizzling casserole dish with mediocre garlic bread. Three meatballs were covered in perfectly toasted browned mozzarella. The sauce had depressing bottle taste to it, but they also offered unlimited imitation parmesan sprinkled via a Boston-Pizza-looking decanter. The meal was remarkably efficient in delivering a boatload of calories without making me sick, but from a quality standpoint, locations like Cimos and North 54 don't have much to worry about the competition from College Heights. Like my experience with Carmel, I'm suddenly awash with the obligation to build a shed or change an engine. The meal wasn't bad, but it does sacrifice quality for price. The spaghetti noodles were a little unseasoned. The sauce had that "preserved" flavour some companies insist don't exist but it really does. The dried parmesan had absolutely no flavor and the garlic bread seemed to have only been frightened by garlic rather than sprinkled with it. The price wasn't bad, though. For $12.95 with a $5.95 pita bread starter, I felt on the periphery between full and "Why did I eat all that food; what the hell was I thinking? I have Bolognese in my veins." About the only thing Carmel--I mean Bon Voyage (I actually made that mistake) had going for it is that it undercuts Boston Pizza's prices by about four dollars. The problem is that is feels about four dollars cheaper. BPs garlic bread is larger and tastes more...garlicky. The pasta has a bit more weight to it. Yes, it probably has 200 more calories in it, but when eating baked spaghetti covered in cheese and meat balls, you're not exactly in Jenny Craig...the...diet, not actually inside someone named--yeah, you get it. The final meal ended up at around $20, basically what you should expect. For that price, you get enough protein to power Rhode Island for a week. However, if looking for something with a bit more flavor, I'd suggest driving another five minutes to a chain. Which ends up becoming the real issue with Family restaurants. They should be feeling the pinch more than most. I'd previously stated that Chinese restaurants have it made since no one has opened chain of Chinese restaurants across Canada, as far as I know. Sushi fast food seen in Asian has yet to make a footprint here. But family restaurants must compete with popular chains with earned respect like Boston Pizza. Although some people may criticize that statement, all I know is that when a group of people can't decide where to go, they end up at Boston Pizza.

The manager was sincere and pleasant as always. It makes a long journey feel more like a visit to an acquaintance’s home. The room is set up for travelers to find everything they need at a modest price.

The place was comfortable clean and staff was friendly.

The staff is lovely. The parking lot is secure and the rooms are clean and quiet.....The staff were kind enough to bring me a broom to deal with my kitty Ricky's litter.

Very pleasant greeting by the front desk staff including the manager cat! Chose this location due to its proximity to UNBC as well as to shopping locations such as Walmart and Costco. The bonus was the restaurant which we ate at for 1 dinner and 3 breakfasts. Large portions served by a very friendly wait staff.

Very comfortable beds. Near UNBC. Great price. The restaurant on location had affordable breakfast options.

Love the place!! Love the quietness. But was expecting 2 beds and a smoking room.... not sure what happened there 🤔🤔

The room was clean. Toilet sear was broken and ceiling light shade missing but the fridge and ac worked fine.

The price is great and location easy to find, friendly staff
