Embark on a winter snowshoeing journey in the Kananaski s, which is just west of Calgary. Canada's Rockies (Base, 8 Days)

Let me state from the outset that our Journey through the Clouds on board of Rocky Mountaineer was a very pleasant experience. We would definitely recommend it to a friend. (And we already have!). However, this review is focused on the areas that need improvement. It starts with a mess. The train terminal in Vancouver is obviously not equipped for the number of passengers waiting to board the train. There is a severe shortage of chairs. The chairs or sofas that are there are more suited for a large dentist office, not for the train terminal. The poor passengers, most of them in their 50’s and 60’s are searching helplessly around for something to sit on. In the meantime all the management has to do is visit any airport boarding gate. The solution there is vivid and simple. Our departure was festive and joyous. The entire staff of Rocky Mountaineer lined up to wave us goodbye. But then, I discovered myself sitting at the very end of the car next to a big man. I couldn’t see my wife and daughter sitting in the row in front of me on those bulky but not very comfortable chairs. My neighbor and I found ourselves embarrassingly jostling for the elbow space. As I said, the seats are massive but are not as comfortable as those designed for the long-haul airline flights. While transcontinental flights take 12-14 hours, here, passengers will sit in their seats for 2 – 3 days. I complained and they moved us to another car where we were sitting much closer upfront and I was seated in the same raw as my family. We have made this reservation a year in advance. One would think that having made it so early we should have had better seating arrangements. A little more consideration for the family members, a little extra consideration for those who signed up first and finally a better software allowing people to change their seats (just like the airlines) would go a long way. Finally, let me address the major problem: inadequate dining room and kitchen facilities. Because there is a severe shortage of restaurant tables combined with an acute shortage of kitchen facilities we, the passengers are divided into two groups. Half of the car has breakfast at 9, the second – at 11. Likewise lunch: one group eats at 12, the other at 2 PM. The shortage of dining cars aside, the kitchen is very small and can’t keep up with the dining room demand. So, by the time I get my breakfast I am on the fourth cup of coffee and even that is already cold. This presents a particularly big problem with lunch. Usually, I go to bed early and get up early (4 AM). So, if I finish my lunch at 4 PM, I will not be ready to eat dinner at 7. Because I refuse to go to bed with a full stomach, if I don’t start dinner by 6:30 – 7, I will not eat dinner that day at all. That said the quality of food aboard the train was excellent. My compliments to the Chef and his team! Coming from me it’s a big compliment. I am a foodie and would routinely travel anywhere for good food, be it Lion or Bologna. To summarize, Rocky Mountaineer is worth the money. It’s a great way to spend a vacation. Even your teenagers would like it. Yet, there is a lot to improve. Being from the US, I hope that soon someone would take this idea to the US Rockies and make a fortune.

Definitely the trip of a life time! The Rockies are beautiful and you get to see the most amazing sites on this trip! I would highly recommend, this was my first G Adventures tour and it certainly won't be my last

Itinerary was great, scenery was beautiful, and our guide was fun. I was the only male in the group with my wife and 11 other females and it worked out fine. Everyone was very congenial, and the diversity of the group added to the experience. Only thing I would change would be the accommodations in Vancouver. While the hotel was fine it was very far from the downtown and sights, so we spent most of our time the last day in the van in traffic. Overall, it was a fantastic trip.

We enjoyed our tour very much, the sights were beautiful, staff we well informed. A highlight for us was the optional evening photographic tour. The only thing stopping me from giving five stars was the last day felt very rushed, especially at the Banff gondola as the queue to get on took half an hour and not enough time allocated to our lunch at the Lake Louise Chateau, we had to ask the waitress to bring out the dessert while we were eating the main as we only had 15 minutes until the bus left. Allocate a bit more time for those things and you will get five stars.

5-Day Rockies Unique Tour (Banff & Jasper & Yoho National Park)

So nice trip. Gondola, ice coach, lake Louise, Emareld lake, Moraine lake, Athabasca falls are gorgeous. Hotels were very nice and clean. Banff is sooo nice during the off season ( last August). I recommend to give more time to gondola on the last day, no need to visit the surprise corner. Thank you tourradar.

Our tour guide was Jennifer - and she was superb! Her love for the area, the history and the beauty of this country was always on display. Her enthusiasm was infectious, still she was able to accommodate a diverse collection of needs from our group of 42. Jennifer was a delight. Your survey has a glitch - citing the guide, even with a name, does not provide any means of submitting that information. Very frustrating as the tour guide is the most critical feature of the trip.

I really enjoyed the week of hiking witj Great Canadian Trails. We went on beautiful trails with a very knowledgeable and fun guide. We stayed in comfortable rooms and had great food. Looking forward to doing it again next summer.

Western Journey

The views on this tour are spectacular and make it worthwhile. The distances travelled by bus are in hundreds of kilometres and long duration. There were more than enough stops. Plenty of memorable photos taken. The additional tours to lake Louise the glacier and Vancouver Island are worthwhile but tours in Canada are not inexpensive. The hotels are more than adequate though the hotel in Kamloops is a little dated. Please be aware that you will in the main be living out of a suitcase. Our driver was doing this trip for the first time and took all the necessary steps to ensure that we arrived safely. More interaction from the guide would have been appreciated.

The additional optional tours were also good, we did the Metro tour which I highly recommend, we also paid for the Kremlin tour. The hop on hop off has three different lines all included. They suggested we do the 1 hour boat trip and said they would drop us to the dock. 1) they dropped us in the wrong place 2) they were lost because of the marathon Then the boat, after we finally found it: 1) stinking fumes, actually gagging 2) no commentary, in fact, no interaction unless you begged 3) offered us 2 for 1 icecreams as they had melted and refrozen as the fridge gets turned off at night Honestly, we enjoyed the afternoon in the boat but spent all of it laughing at just how awful it was!!! The red route is quite exciting and takes about an hour. The bus comes every 10 to 15 minutes. However the other two routes take about two hours each and buses come every 30 to 40 minute period. If the bus is full then you have to wait at the stop for the next bus. So personally I feel that not much can be seen this way. I definitely was not impressed. The boat element was wonderful, we saw some amazing parts of Moscow along the river side. The bus element was very disappointing as it only started at 10am and was finished by 6:30pm. It was extremely warm when we were there and it would have been great to do the tour in the cool of the day. There was also no air conditioning in the down stairs part of the bus. The ear phones were small and sometimes the commentary did not link up with the sites you were seeing. The green bus takes you on a longer route and ours took two and a half hours due to the heavy traffic. I would not recommend this trip unless it is raining or you want to fill in time. The girl on the picture-light blue bag-ask for 100 Rubles for show her the QR Code while I had the Booking and PIN number cause she must see the vessel name-Didn’t say nothing and after she said board any vessel. The traffic is quite heavy so it is a bit slow but there is not a lot they can do about it. We only did the red route. The bus didn't stop at many points. Were were unaware a couple of times at what point we were and missed them. Headphones and maps were provided. Would recommend one should check out the route map before going and decide which places to stop in advance, this way one can manage and enjoy the tour more and us it more effectively.! And in the boat even tough we were 90% English speaking tourist at least, the tour guide spoke 95% of the time in Russia, and only 3 sentences in English, I really counted how many times she spoke in English. And at the end she asks us if we have any questions? Of course I told her I couldn’t ask her anything since I didn’t understand 95% of what she was saying. The boat tour is not worth it, just take the bus that would be my advice. Second minus is the waiting times, in the boat they made us wait an hour before it departed, and in many stops with the buses waiting times of 20-30 minutes. Due the nature of this type of tour and varying demand, group travellers should be aware that there is no guarantee that the group will be able to travel altogether as the available seats vary from stop to stop and depends on demand each day. The group may need to split up and/or wait for the next bus(s).

As, we cannot guarantee that the group shall be able to travel together as one group, therefore we will reduce the group size down to 4-5 smaller groups per ticket (depending upon group size).
